A man in standing in the middle of Griffith Park.
Man: This sucks! Yelp is going to hear about this!
Yelp: Griffith Park. One Star. “I waited for hours and I did not get sucked off by a werewolf even once!”
Londerland Bloodlines
Alice: [reading the Yelp review later] ...I think the werewolves there have much more important things to do than suck you off, sir.

manchester evening news on an unlikely first public appearance of noel gallagher post-reunion: at a book launch speaking about hacienda days
Tumblr media
He spoke on a panel that included Manchester music star Peter Hook who co-owned the Hacienda with New Order and Factory Records, former Hac manager Ang Matthews, Flesh club night promoter Paul Cons, DJs Graeme Park and Greg Wilson and Noel's fellow club "punters" fashion designers Ian Griffiths and Angela Murray and performer David Hoyle. Stone Roses legend Mani had also been due to attend, but had to withdraw due to sickness…
The event on Wednesday night marked the official launch of the Hacienda Threads book which has been compiled by Rebecca Hook. It features previously unseen images of ravers at the Whitworth Street West club as well as memories by a host of punters and famous faces who partied there…
Noel also said of Oasis' performance at the Hacienda (in 1994): "I guess when the band formed it felt like a rite of passage, we played there on the way up like The Smiths. I saw Happy Mondays, New Order and the great Primal Scream there."
Talking about his earlier experiences as a clubber at the Hacienda, he said: "I was the right age, I was 21 in '89 at the time I lived in Whitworth Street so it was the nearest place to my flat. Even at the time we knew it was special."
He added: "'88 and '89 were the two best years of my life, living on Whitworth Street, no one knew who I was."
He paid tribute to Factory Records and the people who helped to build the Hacienda. He said: "The thing about Manchester is it’s just small enough and just big enough. The reason why it [Hacienda] happened is Factory Records.”
"Not many [record companies] have built something for the people of their city. Thank god there were all those people to do it."
Noel added: "People don’t know what they want until you give it to them. It takes a few visionaries to make it happen. There’s visionary people in this town and thank God they had the balls to do it."

“Anyone else remember when we had that massive blackout over most of the northeast US and a bunch of urbanites were freaking out about weird lights in the night sky because they didn't know what stars looked like.”
No no no no
No no
No no no no no noo
NO NO NO, NU UH, NEIN NEIN NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIN
Urbanites must known what stars are from family road trips like I do. Or from movies, or understand that city pollution covers the stars
If this true, no wonder screenwriting is shit especially in fantasy.
Tumblr media
Source on the LA one, r/AskHistorians
Did people actually call 911 or an observatory upon seeing the Milky Way due to the power outage that followed the Northridge Earthquake?
So foreign are the real night skies to Los Angeles that in 1994, after the Northridge earthquake jostled Angelenos awake at 4:31 a.m., the observatory received many calls asking about "the strange sky they had seen after the earthquake."
Yes they did, no 911 just local observatories. Griffith Park observatory I'd guess
The confluence of Jupiter and Venus also managed to get some calls.

I'm willing to cut people a little slack on this one because it is abnormal, those are going to be two of the brightest objects in the night sky and if you have no clue what they are other than bright spots I can understand the concern. _____________
But ya, this stuff happens as you see.

"this was the first faint note of the prelude of the tragedy which presently was to end all hopes of any natural, joyous life for me— for ever after. i believe that although one may seem to go on living, there are some sorrows that kill. one's body may drag along its weary way on earth, but one's spirit is crushed— for ever crushed. i have heard people speak of the ennobling influence of sorrow. i can only say that those last few days of my life, before the blow fell, were actually the last days of my spiritual life. ever since then i have had only one desire— to fly— to fly— to fly from the horror of it, and my life has been but a series of weird flights from it all; and all life has been to me but as a phantom ship upon a phantom ocean."

“Yep, it's a big city with 40000 boroughs. 😂. “. - Actually there are only 5 boroughs in Manhattan (often mistakenly called neighborhoods) but over 350 actual neighborhoods throughout the 5 boroughs!! Here’s a slightly gossipy mini travel log some might enjoy. Humor me.
The old money billionaires (like Paris Hiltons family type) mostly live in mid-town Manhattan around Central Park and the exclusive Gramercy Park neighborhood with its resident’s personal key to a locked private park along with their apartment (highlighted in JL’s WeCrashed mini-series.) Gramercy Park was the home of Roosevelt, Thomas Edison, literature and theater luminaries of the early 20th century such as Truman Capote and Edith Wharton and is currently the home of celebrities such as Midler, Delevigne and assorted top models, J. Roberts, Lagerfeld, Fallon and Kate Hudson.
Lots of artsy folks and big film, sports and fashion celebrities; Timberlake, Swift, B and Jay Z, T Brady, Lewis Hamilton, DiNiro, ScarJo, J. Gyllenhaal, Reynolds and Lively, Styles and many more, live or have lived in the lower Manhattan neighborhoods that JL likes to hang out in when he is in town. These include neighborhoods like Tribeca, SoHo, West Village, the Bowery and Chelsea; all home to some of the best boutiques and endless areas to eat and mingle in NYC. FYI:The Bowery is the 7th most expensive neighbor-hood in Manhattan. Lewis Hamilton’s 12,000 sf penthouse in Tribeca recently sold for 50+/- million US dollars!!! Yes, you heard that right and he made somewhere around 6 million $ on the sale. 😵‍💫
Sparked by the influx of successful hip-hop artists and the Barkley Center, many musicians, athletes and successful actors live near or in Brooklyn in places like Dumbo, Red Hook, Park Slope or Williamsburg. Hathaway, Damon, A. Driver, Sarsgaard and M Gyllenhaal, Blunt and Krasinski, Bork, Nora Jones, Hawke, O Wilde, E. Murphy and many more all have homes in Brooklyn.
Queens has several less expensive neighborhoods like Sunnyside, Howard Beach and Astoria (one of the cheapest neighborhoods to live in). While there is an young active nightlife in Astoria and one or two other neighborhoods, Queens is a safer, less expensive place young people go to start out or raise a family. The Fresh Meadows neighborhood was the home of not famous at all, me. 😁
The Bronx has some of the poorest and toughest neighborhoods (around Yankee Stadium) though there are some very beautiful and well kept areas and many old stately stone homes. It’s trying hard to come back.
Staten Island is a much quieter more residential part of the city filled with highly ethnic (heavily Italian) blue collar working class families. (Think Jersey Shore on TV). While a few mid century actors lived there many years ago, no one famous except briefly Pete Davidson who was raised there, seems to want to live there now. Fun Fact: The characters in the movie “Working Girl” starring Harrison Ford and Melanie Griffith, Sigourney Weaver, Alex Baldwin and Joan Cusak are in Staten Island for this flick. Don’t miss this 1988 rah rah rom com feel good movie classic!! (Free by Hulu or Disney subscription or 2.99 Amazon rental or 3.99 some other places in US. Maybe free somewhere but worth a few bucks) You will see the actual SI ferry from the island to Manhattan which you must take daily to get to NY and hear the true Staten Island classic NY accent at its best! Great story and music too !
Well, nobody asked for all this but it is a very awesome city in which I lived, worked for many years and know well ! Beautiful, very exciting, exceptionally cultural and immensely historic (don’t get me started) but expensive to live in for the most part. And now you can all trace JL and Thinnie’s whereabouts around town! 🤪
Thanks, anon! 🤭🙌
I wonder why JL decided not to splurge on a NYC pad anyway, after being on the look-out couple years ago. 🤔
Guess his deal with Bowery saves him a big penny! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Griffith Park's Travel Town is a perfect setup for the next Pixar movie and here's why:
All these old geezer trains landlocked, tired of being glorified playgrounds for birthday parties, fondly reminiscing and dreaming about their old lives on the glorious rails.
So one day they hatch a plan to escape, to be the stars they used to be and dream of being of. Much comedy because there's no tracks and they're all elderly. But eventually they break free! They make their way down the 5 straight to the station barreling towards their future.
But only to realize now, at the midpoint of the film, that passenger rail doesn't really exist any more, the world has changed, forgotten about them, no longer seemingly wants them.
So our train friends are left with an existential crisis. The thing they've dreamed for decades about and devoted their lives to doesn't exist. The world they were trying to live in is gone. And now they must spend the rest of the film reckoning with what it means to lose a dream, your identity, and how you find a new dream and new identity when there's no path set in front of you.

Los Angeles Complete Travel Guide
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES FAMILY TRAVEL GUIDE
The second largest city of the US, Los Angeles has its own unmatched magnetism. In my growing up years, I recall Los Angeles as the venue of the Olympics. And then subsequently over the years, this most prominent metropolis in California, as the glamorous hub of Hollywood. Beverly hills where stars own palatial houses. And of course Disneyland ! If you’re a Disney fan, and are traveling with your family surely you couldn’t possibly return without a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim.
Best Los Angeles Getaway With Family
As LA is huge, with Anaheim being a city in itself, plan your itinerary in such a way that you first visit the parks. There are two Disney parks  near Los Angeles in Anaheim, 26 miles away. It is highly recommended, to first spend 2-3 days here. Stay in one of the hotels just walking distance from the parks and then move to main  LA for the remaining part of your trip.
HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES
Staying in a centrally located hotel in West Beverly Hills, Hollywood, at the doorstep of the Walk of Fame boulevard has its advantages. Just as you step out, you’ll find yourself on the legendary Walk of Fame boulevard, having the longest list of stars, celebrities and performers.
Tumblr media
It’s a pleasure to stroll here. The views of the tree lined street, the blue skies above and brightly colored buildings is picture perfect in the day and transforms into a wonderland in the night when the fluorescent lights are lit.
It was Halloween during that time, and if you too happen to visitng in this month, then look forward to being fully entertained by all sorts of the weirdest and scariest dressed passerby’s.
There are a plethora of museums on the boulevard that can be visited depending upon your interest and time. These include  theGuinness World record museum, World of Illusions and the Hollywood Wax museum to name a few, that are great for families. Also plenty of cultural activities happen – live theatre, art galleries, film complexes and music concerts.
BEVERLY HILLS
Beverly Hills has been the setting of innumerable films, and  to be actually present there was like a dream come true. And above all, the most magical moment was to watch the shooting of a movie starring Brad Pitt on the streets of West Hollywood. This sort of completed our trip and was the ultimate experience.
Tumblr media
If you’re a tourist visiting Los Angeles for the first time, it’s worthwhile to take a chartered tour to the famous Beverly Hills. There are multiple types of private trips with a live commentary at hand including half day, full day or few hours. The three hour tour included Beverly Hills, residence of celebrities and film stars, and finishes off at Rodeo drive . This is actually quite sufficient, as you can do it at your own pace rather than a hurried, longer trip,  in which a lot is squeezed in.
One advice here,  before the tour begins make sure to eat something and be refreshed as there are no stoppages in between, specially if you have younger children accompanying you.
https://travelsimplygo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/LA8.jpg
The tour halts at vantage points from where the iconic Hollywood sign is visible on the hill-side. Sunset Point and Bronson Avenue give a clear view, and are ideal spots for photos.
You’ve seen them in movies, now see where your favorite stars live, hang around for a while, listening to interesting stories narrated by your guide, gazing at their posh, sprawling homes/ mansions !!
Afterward, the tour continues onto the upmarket Rodeo drive, with its high class stores of luxury brands. Here again there are no halts and is the final destination, where you are dropped off.
Tumblr media
Griffith Observatory – There is more to the Griffith Observatory than the exteriors and stunning views of the city from its elevated position. A planetarium inside and a number of ticketed shows too draw tourists.
 FAMOUS BEACHES
Santa Monica beach – the pier at Santa Monica is worth visiting. It’s a picturesque point on the Pacific Ocean, having  loads of activities, a children’s park, or street performers vying for attention and tips.
The other prominent beach of LA is Venice, spectator sports like basketball, baseball, football, soccer etc are played in abundance  on these beaches.
The `city of angels’, looks spectacular after dark when it’s lit up and truly comes alive. The best way to enjoy that is to drive through the streets around the Hollywood area, where traffic congestions are less. Admire the high-rises or the  wonderful houses in the residential neighborhood!
If you wish to have more adventure and unlimited fun, then there is Universal Studios, Hollywood. Apart from the plethora of thrilling rides and sci-fi shows,  of particular interest here are the movie shooting sites, and complete tours of how special effects are created in films.
Tumblr media
Though Los Angeles is fringed by the Pacific Ocean, and has nice beaches, the weather is not typical beach type. It can be classified as a Mediterranean climate – characterized by  dry summers and wet winters. My own experience of the weather in October – sunny and warm during the day and evenings becoming mildly cold as temperatures go down. Going by the diverse activities offered here, travelers can pack accordingly.

The Arkham Hellion: Year One
Chapter 1: The One Where Everything Worked Out (Part 3)
Characters: Connie Inviglio (oc), Dante Spectre (oc), Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow. Emril Griffith (oc, mentioned), Connie Inviglio x Jonathan Crane (slight)
Warnings: Language warning, dark themes, psychoanalysis
Word count: 2.2k
A/N: okay i know i tagged this as Crane x Connie but like it only sets the foundation for it here
———————
Connie stopped by her apartment first. She had thirty minutes until she had to be at the station, and she needed to feed her dog. Bilbo came bounding towards her, his fluffy tail wagging with excitement. Her shift at GCPD ran from 3 to 8, mirroring the hours she worked at Arkham, from 9 to 2. She was going to get home late tonight, so she fed Bo half of his dinner early. As she looked at her calendar in between shifts, she realized that her shift ended at 8 (way past when her parents would be enjoying dinner) and that right after she needed to get to the university for her class. A lot of her credits came from her work with the police and at the Asylum, but there were still a couple of classes that would help round out her degree and assure her future doctorate. Her class would be at nine, end at ten, she’d be home at ten thirty, and she could sleep.
Today was Thursday for Miss Caroline Inviglio, which is why she had her night class with Dr. Crane. In the morning, she’d have to get up early to attend her positive psychology class, work her shift at Arkham, but she wasn’t needed at the station on Fridays, so she instead had a lecture, a self defense class, and the evening to herself to complete school work. Saturdays had no shifts, another self defense class and a kickboxing class, but then she’d have the rest of the day. Those were the days she’d take Bilbo out for walks, go to the park or maybe visit a cemetery and leave flowers at each grave. Sundays were more classes, more lectures, another walk, and then work would resume on Monday.
Connie worked hard. She took her pills, minded her diet, and crammed as much effectiveness into her independent life as she could. Once upon a time, she was trapped with a family with animosity towards each other, surviving through mental illness and before that, living paycheck to paycheck in uncertain households. She never would have seen herself with the life that she had now. A dog, steady work, an abundance of education and the willpower and time to train her body to fight. Rest may have been limited, but she earned every bit of it, and didn’t regret the life she had.
At 3:01 pm, Connie had parked her car, and five minutes later, she had her ID on and had checked in at the front desk of the Gotham City Police Department.
"Ms. Inviglio?" a voice asked, and upon turning around Connie was faced with one of the most attractive men she had ever met.
"That's, uh, that's me." Her mind raced to keep calm, but very attractive people, men in particular, had a way of causing her common sense to falter. Women she felt more confident around, more encouraged to impress and befriend, but men were intimidating.
He had odd features, not the kind one would typically describe a perfect man- no square jaw, chiseled features, sharp nose, or piercing eyes. Quite frankly, his features could almost be described as soft, with a rounded jaw and no overly pronounced chin, thin lips and dark brown eyes. When he extended his hand for a handshake, she gripped it with a firm and confident shake, despite her trembling. The softness of his hands caught the hopeless romantic that Connie was off guard.
A tattoo of a sun or star, some design that looked pagan but she wasn't familiar with, was tattooed on the side of his neck, and delicate symbols and shapes were tattooed on the back of his hands. A large windbreaker-type coat swamped his broad shoulders, and underneath that he wore a black shirt and a gold chain. His hair was shaved on the sides and slicked back.
The man may have had gentler facial features and pianist's hands, but his time as a detective in Gotham wore him into the focused, grizzled and bitter cop before her. His eyes were dark and shadowed, and his thin lips were pulled into a hard line.
"I'm Detective Spectre; Commissioner Gordon said you'd be arriving. You're our intern?" Even his voice was pretty, and Connie struggled to compute how to maintain social etiquette.
"I'm, uhm, yup. That’s me. I’m doing criminal profiling, yknow, ha..." Her father was an attorney and before that, a soldier. She gained a lot from growing up under him, and one of them was the lift of her chin, the squaring of her shoulders and her hands resting stiffly at her side when she was faced with a superior.
The detective regarded her carefully. "I'm told you work with Dr. Griffith?"
"Yes, sir."
As the detective lead her down to her place in the forensics lab, Connie used her inhaler. Her hammering heart and nerves did not help the scratch and ache in her lungs. It confirmed a theory she had once told a friend - that attractive people were bad for her health. Once Dt. Spectre explained his expectations for her work on his case, he left, and Connie’s focus returned.
Connie did see her dad when he came by the station to receive evidence; and she also noticed how it came from the Commissioner himself. It wasn’t hard to see the truth- that Batman was involved. In almost every aspect of her life and career, he was. Maybe, she’d get to see this fable of a man for herself, but until then, she regarded him as a resource for the criminal-justice system, and kept neutral opinions on the morality of his existence. Michael and Connie exchanged a hug, and Connie apologized that she would have to miss dinner to complete her work and make it to her class. Returning home was rescheduled for Saturday, when her mother Seanna would make her famous red rice.
Work went smoothly from there. As a forensic, she assisted a witness in Dt. Spectre’s case in sketching a depiction of the criminal. If the GCPD wasn’t so understaffed, Connie wouldn’t have any involvement in forensic art, but she was more than qualified to provide the service. As the witness struggled to describe her assailant, she shook, stammered and contradicted her own statements. Connie had to calm her down repeatedly. Connie then had to write out a rough description of what kind of person would be inclined to commit certain crimes - profiling. The assailant for Spectre’s case was the most interesting, because Connie deemed him to be a complete sociopath, and what behaviors and mannerisms he’d exhibit. Once Connie submitted her report and finished up other necessary paperwork for other cases, she finished her shift at 8.
Cold barbecue pizza, feed and pet the dog, double check on the plants, grab your lanyard. Four things, just a quick stop at her apartment, and then Connie was heading out again. Leftover pizza was not the most nutritious dinner, but it would tide her over for her class. She technically didn’t need to take this class, but of all the classes that could have given her credits, this one was the most interesting. A lot of students didn’t like Dr. Crane or his class, and found him creepy, but Connie gave him the benefit of the doubt and deemed him an eccentric; additionally, in a class about fear, creepy things would inevitably be the topic of discussion.
Connie took this class despite its reputation, because understanding the psychology and behaviour centered around fear would inevitably assist her work at Arkham. It certainly helped Crane, who also worked at the asylum; his office was just down the hall from Dr. Griffith’s. She found Dr. Crane attractive in a way, but he was strange and intimidating, so it was much easier to dismiss, but she still found herself admiring him. He was dedicated to science and his work, and he had succeeded in his career. That gained her appreciation far more than his elegant features and cold blue eyes.
She made it to the campus early. After walking across the courtyard of Gotham University, going up a flight of steps and walking across the building, she found Dr. Crane’s classroom. Twenty minutes to go, and the door was closed. Not wanting to disturb her professor before he opened the door, she found a seat on the floor against the wall, and checked her phone. There were too many texts, messages, emails and notifications waiting for her; over ten hours since she was able to really check her phone, and Connie marveled at how work now distracted her from the device, and not vice versa.
Several of the messages were from Camille Gutierrez, her friend from before Connie moved to Gotham, who moved there as well pursuing her acting career. Most of it was videos that Cam found funny, and others were updates on her life. Connie took the time to respond as appropriately as she could.
“Hello, Caroline,” a voice said suddenly, and Connie jumped, jerking her eyes upward and swearing under her breath. Her gaze landed on Dr. Crane, thin and cold as always, looking down at where she sat. As her heart rate settled from the jump, Crane smiled. With one thin finger, he pushed his clear glasses up his nose, and regarded his frightened student with a remote intrigue.
“Dr. Crane!” Connie finally said once her thoughts were gathered. “Excuse my language.”
Connie stood and gathered her bag, brushing herself off and straightening her shirt.
“You’re early.”
“Traffic wasn’t as bad as I was expecting.”
Connie squirmed nervously in Crane’s presence, which brought him a mild form of delight.
“No need to sit in the hall. Come inside.”
Crane turned back into the classroom, and not wishing to be disrespectful, Connie followed.
“How have you been enjoying my class, Caroline?” Crane asked as he walked to his desk. This was the most one on one discussion she had ever had with him, and her social anxiety crept in on her. She found her preferred seat in the class, a desk towards the front of the room where she could better see and hear the professor. It wasn’t directly next to Crane’s desk, but it was close enough that Crane could engage in conversation with her.
“I’m enjoying it,” she replied, clearing her throat. “I’m finding it insightful on behavior.”
“Is that so?” He hummed. “Fear, I have found, is the most potent of neurological reactions. It is stronger than any other instinct.”
“Even love?” Connie blurted, and when Crane looked up at her with an unamused expression, she regretted it.
“What good is love to survival? And don’t say reproduction, because love is not needed for that.”
“For other animals, love and reproduction coexist for a purpose, but not for humans.”
Crane adjusted his glasses once more before looking at his computer.
“Not exactly, of course,” Connie rushed to correct herself. “Love is objective and it’s not entirely known if animals feel love, except for like dogs, or maybe dolphins…”
She laughed uncomfortably under her breath and sat back, curling in on herself.
“Then tell me. Why do you suggest love?”
“It- it gives people purpose. Without purpose, there is insanity. I think, uhm, at least. This is more philosophical, though…” Connie reached for her inhaler as she cleared her throat again.
“And you think the need for purpose is stronger than fear?”
“I think without purpose, there is no reason to fear anything.”
Crane looked up at Connie again, leaning forward.
“Interesting.”
Silence fell as Connie’s mind raced and Crane studied his pupil.
“What do you love, Caroline?” Crane asked carefully, breaking the silence.
“I, uhm. I love my dog, for sure. And my family. And my friends.”
Crane rolled his eyes.
“Only living things that give you some sort of validation?”
“I love my dog because seeing it happy makes me happy.”
“You keep mentioning your dog.”
“He’s not human. And I have nothing negative to connote to him.”
“Do negative connotations negate love?”
Connie thought over all that had happened in her life, the conflict and divisions and the fighting amongst her family, the distance and grief at missing her friends, the conflict and chaos that tore at her heart for years. At that moment, her pain of the past killed her social anxiety, and she winced.
“I’d rather not go over it. My dog is just an easy example.”
Her family was a weak point, and Crane took note of that.
“Does your dog give your purpose?”
“No,” Connie replied reluctantly. “But my dog makes the pay off of work sweeter.”
“Then what gives you purpose?” Crane gave her one of those strange looks that only he seemed to give, that other students despised.
“Helping others,” Connie replied steadily. “I can’t heal the world, but there are good people who don’t deserve to be in pain all the time.”
“Like lunatics?” Crane smirked in amusement.
“Like the people of Gotham,” Connie shot back, as politely as she could. “If I can understand fear, I can help others overcome it.”
This elicited a small laugh from Crane, and he slowly removed his glasses.
“Very well.”
Other students began to arrive, and the rest of the class went on without anything unusual. She returned home, showered, took her medicine, and went to sleep. With her loyal Bernese pup curled up at her side, she felt safe, and at peace. Things were normal.
That was, until the next morning. She heard it on the news:
Harvey Dent had escaped Arkham.

The Curse of Griffith Park
Until 1896, when Griffith Jenkins Griffith bequeathed 3,000 acres of what is now Hollywood Hills to the city of Los Angles for us as a public park, the area was a trail of blood and bad luck for anyone who owned it.
In 1863, most of the land was owned by a wealthy rancher named Don Antonio Feliz. Feliz’s spread covered almost 8,000 acres. Don Antonio never married and lived on his huge tracts of land with his niece Dona Petranilla and a maid named Soledad. When Feliz lay delirious with smallpox that year, Dona Petranilla was sent away so that she wouldn’t contract the fatal disease.
Don Feliz was soon visited by a neighbor, Don Antonio Colonel, and his lawyer, Don Innocante, to discuss Don Feliz’s will. (No, they weren’t all named Don; it was a title people used when they wanted other people to think they were important, or in rare cases, if they actually were.) Don Feliz was said to agree to the final draft of the will, but another version of events claimed he was nodding in agreement because someone had fastened a stick to the back of the delirious or unconscious head. To no one’s surprise, Don Colonel got the ranch, Soledad made out with a few sticks of furniture, and Dona Petranilla got squat. The fact that she was also blind probably made her a trifle bitter.
The seventeen-year-old Dona Petranilla reportedly swore out a curse on Don Colonel; it was melodramatic and lengthy, as translated by nineteenth-century California historian Horace Bell: “Your falsity shall be your ruin! The substance of the Feliz family shall be your curse! The lawyer that assisted you in your infamy, and the judge shell fall beneath the same curse! The one shall die an untimely death, the other in blood and violence!” She rants on for a while longer, then says, “Blight shall fall upon the face of this terrestrial paradise; the cattle shall no longer fatten but sicken on its pastures, the fields shall not longer respond to the toil of the tiller, the grand oaks shall wither and die! The wrath of heaven and the vengeance of hell shall fall upon this place!”
Dona Petranilla might have been blind, but she saw the future pretty well. Don Colonel outlasted many in his family, watching while they died of disease or misfortune. When he died, his widow remarried, only to have her new husband try to divorce her and take her property. The litigation lawyers took almost all that was left.
The next owner, Leon “Lucky” Baldwin, tried to run a dairy on the star-crossed land, but the business failed, and he was swallowed up by mortgage companies after there occurred a series of natural disasters that were eerily close to Dona Petranilla’s curse. Not-so-Lucky Baldwin sold the land to Griffith J. Griffith, a Welshman who made a killing in gold mine speculation. He donated the park to Los Angles. A few years later Griffith was convicted trying to kill his wife and spent a few years in San Quentin.
The legend of the curse has long given rise to ghost stories in the park that bears Griffith’s name. Ranch hands working the property in the late nineteenth century said that they had seen Don Colonel howling down the valley toward what are now the municipal golf course and the L.A. zoo. The figure is reported to make appearances at Bee Rock, a granite towering over the east side of the park.
The curse seemed to abate once the city of Los Angles took possession of the land, and perhaps the only dangers that remain for the weekend hikers are things like bodies dumped onto the fire road, mountain lions, and six-foot rattlesnakes. The park is closed at night, so if the ghosts who stalk the old trails of Griffith Park put in appearances only after sunset, they should walk in relative peace until the land inevitably changes hands again.

Hi guys so we’ve had a few room inquiries over the past few months, and we’ve pretty much declined them. We have right at 70 rooms and the only rooms we see being utilized consistently are homes. So here’s what we want from you. Check the list below, to see what rooms you might want to keep or which ones you might want to see gone. Once the list is finalized based off what YOU as a community vote for we will then consider letting individuals start business rooms again. However with that means that you have to keep said room active. If your room goes more than 2 months inactive it will be removed and may get another chance to reopen your business at a much later date. If you have suggestions of new rooms you’d like to see please let us know those as well.
To vote on rooms, simply post in the comments the rooms you’d like to see stay. Any rooms that do not make the cut will be removed from cliq immediately.
