The way she takes of the high heel but is still on tip toes, how she waves around and the car drives itself, the barbieland sign with the hearts around, the pink slide, the glittery posters and the perfect descriptions

Tbh I think the Barbie movie handled its theme of existentialism better than the feminism.
#the feminism of the barbie movie is nothing new#its nothing you wouldnt have seen in a 2016 tumblr post#and in its efforts to platform the struggle of misogyny it unintentionally shrinks the issue of other forms of bigotry#like it IS about a cis conventionally attractive white woman and the prejudice that she applies to her#because shes a woman. so is not on the TOP of the privilege scale and is going to face bigotry as a result#like Greta Gerwig clearly wrote what she knew#and she didnt feel she was educated enough to touch any other topics#the mistreatment of women is a layered topic and it is a complex matter depending on the varied range of women in this world#queer women trans women women of colour#they dont all experience misogyny in the same way that Barbie does#so its definitely not a very rounded discussion#like even Gloria focuses entirely on the pressure of just women in general#like you can claim that shes speaking from her own experience but. its very mouthpiece-ish#her speech is for the purpose of whacking you over the head with the film's message#yknow i think the focus leans too heavily as ''look what we as girls have in common''#but doesnt touch enough on ''but look how we differ too.'' a balance between those two concepts would have been nice#i feel like Sasha being like ''hell yeah white saviour barbie!'' was like a lazy acknowledgement that theyre AWARE of this issue#but like. theyre too deep into the script now#anyway yeah i was just thinking about this cuz of that gifset#Barbie feeling unsafe and being objectified in a public space#while Ken faces no issues whatsoever. even tho he is a loudly colourful flamboyantly dressed man on rollerskates#because we are going for a misogyny message here. so we need to poof homophobia out of existence for a bit okay??#like this is basically what i mean. putting misogyny under the spotlight#and as a result quietly pretending other social disadvantages dont apply right now. bending reality to reinforce the message that we want#this isnt like. a scathing criticism on barbie btw. i dont have a film critic brain#im dumb and i love everything#also im really not the person whos qualified to talk about this#this is just some word vomit because i cant stop thinking about it#anyway i think the themes of what it means to be human and live and breathe fucked royally#i loved that stuff

I mean actually it's really just the story of Adam and Eve and their fall, but with Greta Gerwig's ending and contextual spin put on it.
God actually created man in His own image first, for relationship with Him, and then added woman because it was not good for man to be alone without a helper. Then the Enemy told Eve that disobeying God would make her "LIKE GOD," so she disobeyed God and Adam went along with it, and instead of being like God they became monsters and their relationship was broken with God. But He offered a way to fix it by sacrificing His Son in mankind's place and un-twisting their monstrousness back into what humanity was meant for.
But in Greta Gerwig's understanding, Eve was in a sheltered idealized perfect environment and started to "wake up" to the messy possibilities of life and mortality. Barbie's jarred out of perfect, idealized Barbieland and into the messy life-and-mortality of the real world. Oh, and Ken's there too.
Instead of learning that she's become a twisted-up monster-version of what she'd been made for and opting to be returned to her true purpose, like a Christian does, Barbie does the opposite.
She decides she wants to become human--and since, in this movie, humanity means "messy decision maker" and that, in turn, translates to "a god worthy of worship," she's literally doing what Eve ACTUALLY did to sever her relationship with God in the first place: try to be god.
But instead of that breaking Barbie's relationship with her creator and twisting her up even further until she's eventually destroyed, this decision to be god is portrayed as a good thing. In fact, her creator admits that (supposedly) a creator has no say in the matter--then disappears. Because in Greta Gerwig's worldview, God is dead, for all the meaning or use or power He has, and we are gods just as we are.
It's disgusting. It's revisionist history. It's taking a historical person with the moral standing of King Henry, and writing a metaphor about how chopping his wives' heads off was actually the grand transcendent defining moment of his life--which was objectively beautiful.
That's what Greta Gerwig's Barbie has done with humanity's Fall. She says "it wasn't a Fall, it was an Awakening." Which is exactly what the Enemy lied and claimed that it would be. She's just believing the old lie and perpetuating it.
And unfortunately, the God of the Bible is actually real (plot twist) and very much on control of how all this ends. And it just doesn't end with the monsters pretending to sit on His throne listening to a pretty Billie Eilish song and smiling the end credits into place, I gotta say.
I mean it's expertly done. Very engaging story. Speaks to everything we, as humans, love in the worst way. But it's a lie. And its basically the least original take on...humanity. The world we live in. God Himself. It's the original unoriginality.

people get so mad when you say "maybe this previously romantic thing is platonic" but no one gives a fuck when you say "maybe this previously platonic thing is romantic". I wonder why. truly baffled. couldn't possibly figure it out.

I did not expect to give a fuck about Greta Gerwig marrying Noah Baumbach, but it has been fun to watch the "THERE'S A SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL FOR WOMEN WHO DON'T SUPPORT OTHER WOMEN" coalition of Greta's target audience find out about that one Very Notable Time that Greta did not, in fact, support another woman

olivia rodrigo is NOT bisexual the beauty of her whole deal rests entirely in the fact that she’s straight but acts like that anyway… for feminism. do you even care

the barbie movie should be state-sanctioned mandatory viewing
#i saw it today and like......... i crie#like its such a good movie that gives a perfect breakdown of misogyny and just the overall toxic beauty standards society holds over people#and even kinda touches on how easy it can be for young boys to be black-pilled and sent down pipelines for like andrew tate-type misogyny b#and how thats untrue and ultimately makes men unhappy and ends up damaging all genders#its very like nah fuck you its not women its bc ur depressed and toxic and you cant hold women responsible for your own misery#and not her job to educate and hold your hand or reward u for not being a piece of shit#but ALSO if you are AFAB boy howdy this shit was like free therapy#like thanks greta my pores are clear my mental illness is gone and my cellulite & unproportionate body with asymmetric features looks GREAT#like fr movie to watch when you got low-self esteem bc it makes you feel human and worthy and YOU are beautiful and important#also theres a trans; plus-sized; and disabled barbie !!!#two of them are the main barbies!!!!!!!! AAHHHHH#plus many non-white barbies#bro fr blows my mind theres a trans woman on screen as like a main barbie thats fucking WILD#they mustve had to fight like fuck to get that#oh another reason to like the film: conservatives are going to VOMIT BLOOD over it#mfs are going to be pissing and shitting and crying and cumming and contracting and just MALDING over a feel-good barbie movie#and i love that for us as a society 💅🏻#barbie#greta gerwig#barbie movie#barbie spoilers#???? i guess#also sorry for all the tags holy SHIT#i just have a lot of FEELINGS

one small post from hiatus to simply say how much I adored barbie. As a plus sized girl when I saw the plus sized barbie so beautifully adorned in her outfit I wanted to cry, and how barbie sat with the old woman at the bench, how she met her creator, how Ruth gave that speech about being a woman...this movie will be engraved into my memory forever. Its perfect, I love you barbie. I can speak for hours on how beautifully written it is and how much depth there is to it, but God.
