hello there!! how's your week been? any projects, playlists, books, recipes, etc that strike your fancy to ramble about?
i've been sick this week but i am slowly overthrowing the goop that has taken over my body. putting this together has been a nice distraction, so it got super long
Knitting
just before i got sick, i put a (mostly) handspun cardigan to block. the spinning of this was a tiny bit of a spite project, based on how frequently people talk about "muddy" colors in handspun in a disparaging way. as a brown lover, i took offense and decided to make a rainbow-but-brown cardigan incorporating every technique i could think of that people tell new spinners not to use because it will muddy their yarn. the last two pics gives a vague sense of how much optical color mixing you get from afar vs. up close, but the effect works better irl.
(fiber is all corriedale from Hello Yarn's fiber club)
i used 8+ years old leftover brown cascade eco for the cuffs, hem, pocket trim, and double-knit buttonband. this bit me in the ass, because i ran out with about 6" of band to go, and obviously couldn't get a dyelot match. thankfully, it was the button side of the band so the lighter bit will be mostly hidden, but i am pissed that i had to buy another 250g skein of yarn for a project where i was using up leftovers. also my button order got canceled so i need to source new ones. perhaps this project is slightly cursed. but i'll stash it away until autumn and it'll feel like i get a new sweater, just like i imagined, that i didn't even have to knit.
Spinning
currently working on two different spins, both for scarves.
on my spinolution wheel i have a brown-green-blue-white gradient destined to be woven, although i haven't been able to find the right weft yet. (fingering weight, plied, primarily nonsuperwash wool, pale pink that leans coral/orange...) i may end up dyeing it myself if i haven't found the right yarn by the time i get to weaving it.
i'm also spindling the finest yarn i possibly can, for some sort of garter stitch lace shawl situation. the fiber is a decently textured batt that includes silk nepps, so it will be gently tweedy. everyone who sees it says the fiber looks like bacon, but it's based on the dyer's cat, Mungo.
Weaving
before i got sick, my goal was to warp my loom for floral overshot kitchen towels, which is what everyone in my family will be getting as a winter holiday gift. maybe next week when i am more confident in my ability to count.
Music
here's what's been stuck in my head lately for each language i speak. apparently i'm stuck in the 90's and very much the bug, not the windshield this week
Vittles
my go-to tea for the past 6 months has been a 50/50 mix of adagio's hazelnut and this baked apple tea. this started as an attempt to make the most autumnal tea possible (and tone down the cinnamon of the baked apple), but i recently committed to it enough to pre-mix a whole tin of it instead of just blending it in the infuser. i take it with homemade vanilla syrup and milk.
any day that i'm not eating çilbir i'm thinking about when i can have it again
i'm also obsessed with claire saffitz's gooey butter cake recipe (if you have ever wanted to just eat cake batter, this is the cake for you).
i have recently perfected my pretentious grilled cheese game with
some type of fruit preserve (i've used earl grey and apple jelly, apple butter, marmalade)
one slice of american cheese for melt
one slice of trader joe's scotch bonnet cheddar for heat
thick cut ham
homemade pickled red onions
serve with sliced cucumber or tomato sprinkled with cavender's seasoning, and/or apple slices, preferably arranged in a silly design so you feel like your adult self (sandwich) is reaching through time to shake your toddler self's (sides) hand
i've also been making what can only be described as a vaguely korean crunchwrap, which started as a fridge clean-out meal and has taken on a life of its own
trader joe's frozen bulgogi beef
egg scrambled over the reheated beef
matchstick carrots or cucumber
pimento cheese spread
kimchi
cilantro
green onion
tortilla chips for crunch (optional, i rarely have chips around)
wrapped in a flour tortilla, griddled until golden
Other Things I've Been Enjoying Lately
my new haircut and color (lime green! i've never dyed my hair before! i'm such a brave little cartoon character now!)
https://weepingwitch.github.io/sudoku
https://www.youtube.com/@BerylShereshewsky
modded minecraft. i'm splitting my time between vault hunters (i am so so bad at it), my own whimsical but slightly dark fantasy 1.20.1 pack, and my gritty 32x conquest+ pack inspired by https://www.youtube.com/@lowresbones's the hammer series
daydreaming about an unfaithful recreation of my favorite summer drink from a closed cafe. their thing was orange juice, soda water, and jasmine syrup. i made jasmine syrup last summer and it turned out weirdly grassy and gross, so i'm going to try lavender or rosemary instead.
speaking of rosemary, i also have the stuff to make brown butter rosemary rice krispie treats! can't wait until i have the energy to both make and eat food that's interesting again. herby sweet treats my beloved <333

☕️ on tea? Love it, hate it, never drank it? Favorite, least favorite?
Tea is the best. :D
So I love all kinds of tea, it's the best drink. Coffee upsets my digestive system these days, but even before that started when given a choice between coffee and tea I would pick tea.
There are so many different types of teas out there too. And they're all so good.
First we've got the true teas: black tea, green tea, white tea, pu erh tea, oolong tea, and yellow tea. These are all derived from camellia sinensis plant and are all going to have naturally occuring caffeine in them.
Of the true teas, black teas tend to be my favorites. They typically have a stronger or bolder flavor and sometimes aren't so much black as they are a deep red which can be very pretty. Though add bergamot to a black tea and it'll be extra delicious to me. (Bergamot being a type of orange - bergamot oil/extract is what's typically added to the tea itself.) Bergamot is found in various breakfast teas, Earl Grey, Paris, amongst others and has a very distinctive aroma.
Black teas also go well with chocolate - I don't know that I've tried a chocolate tea that didn't have a black tea base. Of course people might also start blending coffee into their tea and that's where my adventurousness dies, but often those will be on a black tea base too. If I'm looking for a strong black tea to go in place of coffee and I'm not picking a bergamot tea, I'll usually go with masala or some other similarly spiced black tea.
For making home made tea lattes, black teas tend to be my go to as well. I've gotten pretty good at making these on the stove with a caramelized sugar base, milk added, then tea steeped in last, though sometimes I'll steep the tea separately while making the carmalized sugar + milk and then mix the two after. Different methods make different flavors which work better or worse depending on the type of tea and the flavors I'm after.
Enough about black teas, let's move on to the rest.
Green tea is also a favorite. I haven't tried as many varieties as, say, black tea, but I've yet to taste one I didn't like. Powdered green tea also has a lot of interesting uses, including making for a tasty ice cream.
Oolong teas are really good too. Not my favorites, but they can be more naturally sweet than black teas which make them a good choice when I want to use less sweetener.
Of the non 'true' teas, there's also a wiiiiiide variety of herbal teas out there and have a multitude of plant sources. But because these teas do not include the camellia sinensis, they're technically a tisane. But mostly we just call them tea anyway.
Chamomile tea is a favorite of these for when I've been having trouble sleeping or have a sore throat. Peppermint is good for cold nights, though it's never been particularly useful to me for an upset stomach as others like to claim. Ginger tea is a much beloved by others, but I actually don't like it unless there's something to cover the flavor. It's not gross, it's just... too much. It's an overwhelming taste in a sensory experience sort of way, so I will pretty much never pick a ginger tea.
Rooibos and hibiscus teas are some more of my favorites for herbal teas. They mix well with fruits for some of my favorite light summer blends.
And now for the great iced vs hot tea debate. I actually really enjoy both. Some teas are better hot and don't taste good cold. Some teas are better cold and don't taste good hot. Many teas taste good both ways, but taste different when made hot vs cold so the version I want will differ usually based on what the weather is like. Though it can also come down to what flavors the temperature brings out in the tea itself, which is why some teas taste better one way or the other.
Fruit teas tends to do very well as cold tea, for example. Peach tea is a common one for both hot and iced teas, but strawberry teas are really excellent for being served both ways too though those I'd argue are best served cold. Black tea tends to be better hot, but on a hot day most black teas are delightful when served iced. And since I live somewhere it can get up to 100 degrees in the summer and stay that way for several days or even weeks, being able to enjoy iced tea is kind of a necessity in order to enjoy tea in the summer at all.

oohoo!! okay @aidlvx !!!
so fun fact squeezing your teabag actually releases much more bitter tannins so if you want a sweeter plain brew you want to mess with the teabag as little as possible!! fish it out after 2 min, longer than 3 min and itll start getting bitter too, and if you want it Stronger but not bitter you can up your water temp as long as its not past boiling, you can cover your cup while it steeps, or you can always use extra teabags. i personally can taste the difference between a squeezed-out-the-teabag cup and a left-the-teabag-be cup or an oversteeped vs understeeped vs properly steeped cup, i think esp if youre drinking it black you oughta be careful about that, but if you want a stronger cup imho its easier to just add the extra teabags
if youre drinking plain tea i recommend getting Loose Leaf not only because loose leaf has a fuller/purer flavor than bagged but because loose leaf teas tend to be higher quality. hand in hand with that teabags are often a blend of (cheap) black teas and most all teabags taste similar, where loose leaf has more variety and you can find your perfect cup thats less astringent or has a smoky aftertaste or a berry undertone. that whole world is very similar to coffee blends and wine varieties. obv your budget/tastes should decide your choices but thats my humble opinion. ive also heard that letting the leaves have More Room to steep improves the flavor, but i cannot verify that personally.
if, however, you are drinking tea with milk and sugar may i recommend a London Fog (earl grey tea with 1 tsp lavender per 8 oz, some milk and sugar, and a dash of vanilla) or perhaps even some homemade chai if you want to invest in some spices (crush one green cardamom pod, a stick of cinnamon, 1/4 tsp whole black pepper, and 1/4 tsp ground ginger then boil in 1-2 c water. once boiling, add 1-2 teabags/1-2 tsp loose leaf tea, let steep for 2 minutes, then remove tea. now were gonna add milk, enough to bring the liquid to 3 cups total, so if you had 1 cup water itll be 2 cups milk and vice versa. let it simmer until it reaches your desired thickness and serve with sugar) theres absolutely nothing wrong with a classic cuppa, black or milky or sweet or not, but sometimes its fun to shake things up! tea is a whole world of beverages my friend! explore! expirement!
pinkies up!
Dunno if bobbing the teabag actually helps the tea steep faster but it sure is fun to feel a part of something

What am I supposed to smell in this wine?
Your eyes are shut tight and your nose is dipped genteelly into your glass, seconds later your head lifts and you ask “What am I supposed to be smelling here?” “What do you smell?”. Alas, what I smell and what you and your table mate(s) smell are rarely the same, and guess what? It doesn’t matter.
Your wine came with a list of tasting notes including words like: Bing and dried cherries, tropical fruits, cedar, black raspberries and melon, even wet stone, leather, pencil lead and barnyard. You spend precious time that could be spent enjoying your purchase trying to find the experience the reviewer told you to expect. Are you confused, disappointed that you couldn’t discern what you were supposed to? Let it go and let’s move on to all you really need to know to “sacar todo el jugo” as the saying goes in Spanish- “get all of the juice out” of the experience.
Like most passionate students of wine (especially those seeking certifications and advanced degrees), I spend a great deal of time sniffing through spice cabinets, ethnic grocery stores and farmers market stands, blooming flowers and fruit trees, freshly mown grass and hay, the ocean breeze, the wet pavement after summer rain (petrichor), the earthy smell of an open field after a heavy downpour (geosmin). I smell the differences between Oolong, Earl Grey and Lapsang Souchong teas; between Italian espresso roast and Cuban coffee; between uncured and smoked bacon. In other words, I stick my nose into a lot of places where it doesn’t necessarily belong-also looking for signs of faults in a wine like: locker room, dirty laundry, geranium, rotten egg, burnt rubber, cooked garlic, or skunk. I volunteer at a local farm to smell freshly-dug earth and the growth stages in the lifespan of heirloom tomatoes. I grow seasonal veggies and herbs on my patio so that I can enjoy the scent of my Meyer lemon tree in bloom and the lingering smell of tarragon on my fingers at harvest. Many wine lovers are also great cooks who recognize the variations in aroma of a ripe vs an unripe ingredient, uncut vs sliced, raw vs cooked or a fresh vs fermented one. I recommend that anyone looking to more fully understand the vocabulary of wine begin by learning to smell, as many of the aromatic characteristics also reveal themselves on the palate.
For example, some well-ripened cheeses smell pungently of dirty socks. Not very appetizing to those who don't enjoy Époisses from France or Dutch Limburger but make sense to those who love them. The nuance of animal fat is especially prevalent in Syrah from France's Rhône Valley. A stone-like scent and flavor (some of us diehards have even licked the stones) are the hallmarks of Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley, Champagne and Chablis. Many southern French reds hint at licorice. German Riesling often smells faintly of gasoline – in a good way.
The Wine Aroma Wheel is a helpful tool for learning to describe the complexity of wines by categorizing their characteristic aromas in relation to fruits, vegetables, flowers, minerals, animals, wood, oak and yeast, etc. However, none of this is very useful to someone unfamiliar with the aromas listed. Sadly, today’s supermarkets offer little help in identifying the scents on the wheel as most fruits and vegetables, especially imported tropical fruits (mango, papaya, guava, starfruit) were picked before prime ripeness and lack smell as well as flavor. I once told someone who didn’t like papaya that they most likely hadn’t had a local, fully ripened one. How many of us have access to fresh gooseberries, green almonds, persimmons or quince whether unripe or ripened? What about boysenberries and dragonfruit? Was that lychee fresh or canned? How many have plucked a fig or olive from the tree, can differentiate between the scent of iris, jasmine or lilac? Ever ride a horse or wear Granddad’s old leather bomber jacket? Do you smell your shitake, oyster and maitake mushrooms? See what I mean? This is not a game for everyone.
Having a common language for winetasting allows people of diverse backgrounds to communicate fluidly. Learning the basics is desirable and can add fun when sharing wine with others; but should not be stressful for the average consumer. At a recent tasting of wines from Bourgogne and Bordeaux, a heavily Aussie accented presenter swirled the glass before handing a juicy red Burgundy to me. He raised his glass to his nose as I did mine and we both said, almost in unison “Horsehair!”. The scent took us both back to the memories of saddling up a freshly brushed horse, while also hinting at the wine’s age and vineyard location. A connection was made. A Jamaican-American wine and food writer I know often refers to Barbados cherries, Marionberries, Hibiscus or Sorrel flowers and sea urchin. Do these hold any meaning for you? If so, enjoy these bonus associations when they occur, if not move on.
Detecting aromas is not a parlor trick or for showing off. Your server at a restaurant should be able to detect most faults in the wine before pouring. Let them examine the cork and discreetly sniff for off odors. If an off-putting aroma or bad taste slips by them, let them know, trust your judgement that the wine shouldn’t smell like a wet dog or taste like your kitchen sponge. A faulty wine is generally identifiable, so if this occurs with a bottle you open at home, cork it up and return it to the vendor, if possible. For this reason, I never tell attendees in my classes what to smell or taste; rather to “feel the sensations” of the wine. The important elements of a balanced wine are in its acidity, tannin structure, residual sugar level, alcohol by volume (ABV%), mouthfeel – assets that most people can detect - tartness, sweetness or the lack of it, the heat of alcohol and the thin or thick texture on the palate. After all, what the average drinker wants from a glass of wine is enjoyment.
If you fancy yourself “not average” by all means join me in exploring all the good and bad smells associated with wine – otherwise, as my class descriptions advise “Smell, Sip, Taste, Enjoy” and leave it at that.

Tea Prompts (Tom Lucitor | Star vs the Forces of Evil)
Summary — Tea Prompts for Tom Lucitor from Star vs the Forces of Evil!
Requested by anonymous — Can I request the tea prompts: earl grey tea, milk tea, coffee, rosehip tea, pomegranate tea, hibiscus tea, green tea, russian caravan tea and rooibos tea with his shy!gn!human! reader for Tom Lucitor (Star vs Force of Evil)? Please?? ~🐇
Warnings & Other Tags ➳ Mentions of kissing and jealousy; Tom being the Prince of the Underworld, I guess; I haven’t watched this show in a very long time, so he may be out of character.
Notes ➳ Word Count is 464. ➳ Reader is gender neutral (they/them). ➳ Based on these prompts by sleeeeepytea.
FAQ | Masterlist | Fandoms | Requests | Coming Soon | Schedule
earl grey tea — how did they court their s/o?
i mean, he’s literally the prince of the underworld, so expect some pretty lavish dates. he’ll take you out for extravagant dinners, long walks in the... hellfire light...?
yeah, that sounds about right
milk tea — what are their kisses like?
tom isn’t the best with words, but he’s working on it (with marshmallow’s help, of course). in the meantime, he’ll use physical affection to express how he’s feeling.
and that translates to ‘lots and lots of kisses’
you’re practically being smothered over here!!
coffee — do they get jealous easily? how do they show it?
yes... oh, yes... you love tom! truly, you do! but he is one of the most jealous people you’ve ever met in your life.
you know it’s mostly due to his short temper and deep-seated insecurities, so you try not to fault him too much.
again, he’s working on it!
but if you’re ever in a social setting and tom spies someone else chatting you up from across the room, it doesn’t take very long before you feel a dark, looming presence standing over you.
a small smile grows on your face when your boyfriend’s tight grip lands on your shoulder as he quietly mutters, “can we go now?”
rosehip tea — how romantic are they? how do they show affection?
as i said before, tom likes to use affection when words don’t seem to work properly. kissing, hugging, holding hands, the whole nine yards!
pomegranate tea — at what point did they know they loved their s/o?
he had invited you to a ball. that night, he had smiled as you held him close beneath the glow of the blood moon, eyes twinkling brightly in the dimly lit ballroom. his hand tightened around yours and his chest tightened as his eyes flickered over your features until he finally leaned in for a slow, sweet kiss.
hibiscus tea — what’s their favorite place to take their s/o?
if he’s not taking you on a date, his favorite place to spend time with you is his house. more specifically, his room.
he likes when you let him rest his head on your stomach with his arms tucked under your body to keep you close. your fingers weaving and brushing through his hair, gently encouraging him to fall asleep as his side of your conversation slowly turns into incoherent mumbles and then, eventually, quiet snores.
green tea — how do they comfort their s/o?
once again, when words fail, physical affection speaks volumes. he’ll wrap you in a tight hug, press kisses against your forehead, and gently scratch your back. of course, tucked between the two of you is the sweet, precious marshmallow, who always brings a smile to your face.
russian caravan tea — how experienced are they with relationships?
tom doesn’t have much experience with relationships aside from star, but since the two of them are still close friends, she’s always happy to lend advice whenever tom needs it. (along with marco, of course!)
basically, he needs a little help sometimes and that’s okay!
rooibos tea — what’s their favorite thing to do with their s/o?
alongside physical affection, tom’s other primary love language is quality time. he loves having uninterrupted conversations that are filled with quiet laughter and endless ramblings about anything and everything.

samirah and alex siblings headcanons?
ooh okay!
Since Samirah is Muslim, she doesn't drink alcohol. BUT she DOES videotape Alex being drunk often. Alex is funny when drunk.
They openly talk about their relationships with each other. Since they're both private people, they see each other as confidantes.
Samirah doesn't feel the need to follow the rules of modesty when she's chilling in Alex's room. This has lead to some awkard encounters. Whenever Magnus sees Samirah without her headscarf or in inappropriate clothes, he over-reacts and acts likes he's seen a dead body. Alex finds it hilarious. Samirah finds it condescending.
Alex doesn't like coffee. Since Samirah loves the stuff, they often start the "coffee vs. cocoa" debate. They are both tea drinkers (Alex's favorite is green tea/macha and Sam's favorite is Earl Grey or English Breakfast).
They both adore making fun of Magnus, but in very different ways. Samirah once tells Alex that she thinks he's being too mean and Alex stares at her blankly before cracking up.
Alex watches Samirah's kids sometimes, but not often. Samirah trusts Magnus WAY more with her kids than she trusts Alex. Alex is very offended by this ("Magnus has much worse luck than me! Why are you letting him take care of my nieces?")
Amir grows to like Alex over a couple of years. Alex is always trying to give Amir fashion advice. He takes none of it.
Samirah and Alex both like fashion but resent shopping together. Very different tastes.
As an adult, Samirah coaches soccer on her kids' team. Alex goes to every game to support them. Eventually, Alex learns how to referee the game. Whenever Samirah's kids are playing, Alex makes calls in their favor. Samirah hates it, but the kids think its funny.
Alex tries a couple of times to get Samirah to learn pottery to no avail.
When Sam gets too old to reasonably say that Alex is her sibling, she starts referring to Alex as her kid. Alex finds it very funny and plays along ("Yeah, mom. Remember you have your PTA meeting tonight")

Hey could u do some headcanons for dating ramona flowers please?
of course dear!
Dating Ramona Flowers
Fandom: Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
Format: Headcannons.
Featuring; Ramona Flowers.
Warnings: None.
Notes: None.
• Honestly, Ramona would ultimately have to like you almost immediately to start a relationship with you.
• In other words, if she didn't really enjoy the first date she's not going on a second.
• Another one of Ramona's flaws is calling it unlikely before giving it a chance.
• But don't be too disheartened if you mess up your first impressions with Ramona, cause you still have a slight chance!
• Just annoy her enough and she'll go out with you!
• I mean that’s how Scott got her to go out with him.
• This works both ways btw, if she likes you right of the bat she will annoy you into going out with her.
• Dates with Ramona might occasionally include going out for walks at night or visiting quiet coffee shops.
• Which is rather ironic because Ramona doesn't like coffee, she is more of a tea drinker.
• But that's rare anyway, because most of the time you two like staying in and chilling on the couch together.
• Basically Netflix and chilling cuddling.
• She will insists on a special tea for you two to drink while chilling at home.
• Your options are: blueberry, raspberry, gingerly, sleepy time, green tea, green tea with lemon, green tea with lemon and honey, liver disaster, ginger with honey, ginger without honey, vanilla almond, white truffle, blueberry caramel, vanilla walnut, constant comment and...earl grey?
(i can do that from memory 😅)
• I wonder which one you will choose?
• Ramona is very protective over you, but you will never know that because she will always be sly about it and never admit it.
• But I'm sure you know, based on how she clearly doesn't like not being around it.
• Thankfully her protectiveness is not overbearing, and she fully respects your privacy and boundaries.
• Ramona really hopes you're the same to her when she wants space.
• Ramona isn’t too into PDA, but doesn’t mind hand holding at appropriate times and only enjoys kissing in public if nobody is around.
• Kisses with Ramona are usually very passionate because they all have a different reason to her.
• Maybe it’s a tired good morning kiss or a goodbye peck or a i-haven’t-seen-you-all-day kisses that eventually lead into make out sessions.
• Even though Ramona isn’t too fond of PDA, she does often casually flirt with you in public or send you a few flirty glances through the day.
• But when you’re alone her flirty nature is AMPED UP.
• Not the chessy one-liners but actual flirting.
• Overall, your relationship with Ramona is healthy and beautiful.

forgive the crappy screecap! anyway iruma-kun is chock full of puns, but today i wanted to take a look at this one. in particular, “スーパー魔ーけっと” (also just noting the weird mesh between katakana for “su-pa-” and the hiragana for “ketto”, what’s with that). traditionally, the word for supermarket in japanese is “スーパー” which is short for “スーパーマーケット”. this is just the english word for “supermarket” with a japanese pronunciation. HOWEVER, you’ll notice that the “ マー “ in the above is not that, but “ 魔ー “ instead. this “ 魔 “ is the kanji for demon (among other things) and has the same pronunciation. all this to explain that this is a pun; this is pronounced the same as “supermarket”, but with the character for “demon” thrown in there (because iruma-kun is all about a human living in the demon world etc etc, the show loves puns like this). but how the HELL do you translate something like this into english!?
sometimes it works out really well: one of my favorites is the show’s pun of “抹茶”, “matcha” (green tea) spelled out as “魔茶” (same “ 魔 “ kanji, similar sort of pun) translated as “hell grey tea” (vs. “earl grey tea”, even though that’s not a pun on green tea specifically, it still works). here, they went with “demoncatessen”, a pun of “delicatessen”. while a delicatessen is a tiiiiny bit of a stretch from a grocery store/supermarket, this is still excellent and i’m not sure i ever could have come up with something so clever lol
