WHAT DOOM FOR YOU?
back again with my Please Read The Thebaid Agenda! I adapted the ending of Book VII into a comic because oh boy. thoughts thoughts thoughts.
There is a horror in having yourself altered to such a degree where you are unrecognizable in your own self, to know that it is happening, to know that you should be dead and yet you are not. You have already seen the moment of your death!!!! (Stat. Theb. 3.537 – 47) There's a horror in knowing, and in it being treated as an act of love when it's really more like a violation. Amphiaraus is spared Creon's decree, but by falling into the underworld, it makes things worse on a cosmic scale.

Wait going off the idea that Athena keeps things from her favorite people:
What does diomedes give her?
#epic the musical#The odyssey#Greek myths#Athena#Diomedes#On one hand I would love to see diomedes gifts up on the same shelf of odysseus's carvings#But on the other hand diomedes and Athena have a much more traditional mentor relationship#Verse her absolutely batshit insane relationship she has with odysseus and the love she has for the rest of the family#And diomedes prays /interacts with Athena in a much more traditional way too#So I imagine he gives her proper sacrifices instead of yeeting random wood carvings at her#Maybe this is something that happens later in life for diomedes after he's retired and founded a couple cities#He finally has time to 1. Discover what he actually likes to do and 2. For his relationship with Athena to soften into actual friendship#Diomedes (now forty): carefully placing his first actual gift (instead of sacrifice) on Athens alter#Diomedes: goddess Athena i hope this indulgence is okay. I made this for you as a gift for all the time you have spent helping me#Diomedes: now that my fighting is done i hope you will grace me with you presence from time to time. Thank you goddess for everything.#Athena: who didn't realize she was upset that her and Dios relationship never developed into friendship until this second#Athena: clutching the gift to her chest and using quick thought to scream internally#Athena: voice cracking : It's FINE#(Later Athena dragging odysseus from his bed at 3 am screaming at full volume diomedes finally gave me a gift#He's never given you a gift proof that he likes me better than you get fucked#And then disappears before odysseus can retort because she has to spend hours finding the perfect place for her gift)

horror sub-genres • mythological horror
this horror genre is rooted in the mythos of a culture. these films are based on the legends we heard growing up that scared us. this sub-genre is closely associated with folk horror.

So i finally got my hands on translations of both the Odysee and Iliad!!!
And despite originally caring more about the story of the Odysee i decided to read the iliad first and I'm so incredibly glad i did!
About 20 pages in and two different women are separately kidnapped and taken hostage, Agamemnon and Achilles are at each others throats, the gods are getting involved, Zeus is being himself and Apollo is spreading the plaque. 🤬
Meanwhile Odysseus is somehow on a peaceful road trip and has a sleep over with the boys after a fun karaoke night. 🥰

Hey,I'm a new a fan and I have an itch to ask you:What is your favorite Troy war hero?(If you say Diomedes it doesn't count).
NO DIOMEDES...?😭 THAT'S UNFAIR...
Choosing is so hard, I love so many of them..but If I had to choose I'd probably say Hector (◍•ᴗ•◍)

I've made some quick sketches of my design for him, I really like the idea of him having Vitiligo and heterochromia- as a character though Idk I just love him a lot he's always described as loved and gentle towards his people and he and Andromache had a beautiful and loving relationship....I FEEL BAD FOR THE GUY!

And that's it tbh he's a silly guy that I like a lot...

Alright kids, I’ve got something to say.
Spoilers for The Vengance Saga below the cut.
I think this is my least favorite saga. I was super on board with it until Six Hundred Strike but that really killed it for me.
First off no shade to the artists they did incredibly, the animatics and the music and especially the vocal performances were top notch. But I don’t like what it did for the story thematically or with regards to it being a version of the Odyssey.
Like, this is a retelling of the Odyssey, it takes some (several) liberties but they’re all done respectfully and within the context of the narrative being molded to a new format.
Odysseus stabbing Poesidon doesn’t fit into that framework in the slightest. It’s cathartic, I will admit that, and the how will you sleep at night, next to my wife slaps but it’s extremely totally dissonant to the rest of the musical.
There’s a divide between the gods and mortals, even with the electronic instruments being used to represent the gods and mortals getting regular instruments - the implication is clear, the gods are above and beyond what mortals can comprehend at times. Part of the reason the gods, Poesidon, Zeus, even Circe or Calypso are so scary is because they’re immortal and if those problems could just have been solved with garden variety violence why did Odysseus need Hermes, or Athena. Heck, at that point why didn’t he stab Poesidon back in The Storm Saga and save 600 of his guys so they could all get home?
We’ve broken down the barrier that separates mortal from god and even in the Iliad when Diomedes is able to wound Aphrodite or go toe to toe with Ares there’s no question that he will loose because he’s a mortal and they’re gods. Odysseus shouldn’t get away with this, he should be punished on a cosmic level for rising so above his station.
Honestly I just feel let down, I was looking forward to Phaecia and Odysseus lying to get home but it looks like we’re not going to get that. He’s going to girlboss his way out of it and get home on a raft which is so anticlimactic.
I guess I just wish he hadn’t had his little anime protagonist moment where he gets to be better than all the other mortals TM. He’s just a man, that’s the whole point, he has always been just a man and even if he will resort to ruthlessness, even if he has become a monster he’s still a man. He can’t surpass his own mortality, even if he wants to.

*Dionysus walking into Olympus for the very first time, Hermes by his side*
Dionysus: *spots Ares and Aphrodite* *initiates bisexual panic*
Hermes: Oh no-!
Dionysus: What?
Hermes: I know that look! Absolutely not!
Dionysus: Dude, look at them.
Hermes: Trust me, Dio, you don't want to touch that mess.
Dionysus: Nooooo I'm fairly certain I do...
Hermes: No absolutely not- come on. I'm keeping you in my sight.
