This year we had 8 gorgeous digital art pieces. The average submission from our amazing artists this year was ~12 pages, with our longest comic coming in at 44 pages!! The total number of pages we had between all of our art submissions was 109, so definitely loads to enjoy! In those stories, Harry and Draco got up to all sorts of activities in all sorts of places. Once again, our most popular time period by a landslide was Post-Hogwarts EWE with 31 fics set after the boys have left Hogwarts and ignoring (or mostly ignoring) the Epilogue, with 3 set in 8th year and 1 canon rewrite. That's 88% set post-Hogwarts!!

not gonna spoil obvs but i just wanna say that whatever you’re imagining it to be, it’s 10x better. the acting is so phenomenal (duh) the music is gorgeous the staging is fantastic every decision was clearly so deliberate and everything counts it’s so awesome.

the only other thing i wanna say is that david does his usual little flares in his acting which kind of took me by surprise and it sounds kind of weird but trust me if you also suffer from david tennant disease and have watched every thing he’s been in ever (/hj) then you’ll know them when you see them.

He’s a cutie! And he probably trips over or unintentionally hurts himself because he can’t help but admire you and all of your handsomeness/beauty/gorgeousness.

Hell I bet before you two were dating Clark’s confession must’ve been the most sweetest, heartfelt, and the most adorkable thing ever.

He would probably be on the fence whether or not in telling you he’s Superman because he doesn’t want to put you in any sort of danger but then again being in a romantic relationship with him was already putting you in danger; so he would probably have to sit you down for that conversation, hold your hands within his bigger ones and pray that you understood his reasoning behind the secrecy.

His love languages have got to be one or all of the following;

words of affirmation: he will call you any and every endearing word in the dictionary even if you were only just getting up to start your day. He’s your hype man in every sense of a word and will not allow you to be harsh or look down on yourself. He’s not having it, so he won’t hear it because how can you not see yourself the way he sees you?

To Clark, your phenomenal, exceptional, extraordinary, amazing, incredible, excellent, talented, fantastic, handsome, beautiful, charming, gorgeous and above all else; you. That’s all he wants you to be. Yourself.

acts of service: as I said before Clark lives to serve and with that I’d like to think of him taking on chores that he knows you don’t particularly like doing just so he could relieve the stress of having to do it off of your shoulders. He’d also attempt to make breakfast, but your better off helping him so he doesn’t accidentally breaks the handle off of any appliance you have at your disposal by unintentionally using excessive force.

Clark would do stuff that would be considered small to other people such as leaving out clothes you found most comfort in, neatly folded in your dresser, or bending down to help you in tying your shoes, but to you they were the biggest expressions of love one could ever experience.

Physical touch: this man is a cuddle bug and no one can tell me otherwise. Oh yeah don’t get me wrong but just because he’s stronger then the average man don’t mean he ain’t gonna hold you tight against him -though not too tight- and still be extremely cautious of the usage of his strength. he doesn’t wanna hurt you in any capacity at all. He’s so, so gentle and frequently worried about the consequences that would come if he didn’t handle you with enough care.

Hand holding is a staple in your relationship.

He’s a big spoon and a little spoon in terms of cuddling because he wants to feel as though he’s protecting you in your most vulnerable form and also wants to be comforted by you as he lays his head on your chest. It’s almost a comical sight, you spooning this Greek god of a man but it’s such a sweet and tender moment between the two of you finding comfort in each others presence and being able to be your most vulnerable with them that it completely negates all of that.

back hugs in the morning from either you or Clark because I just adore the idea of this man coming up behind you and hugging you with his strong arms caging you at the waist as his head is buried into your neck as he whispers you a good morning. I also adore the idea of you just going up behind him and hugging him as tightly as you could, not knowing that you couldn’t possibly hurt him physically even if you tried.

Quality time: while unfortunately yes, being Superman is a full time thing. That don’t mean Clark wouldn’t at least attempt in making time just for the both of you and besides you found his deep rooted want to help anyone and everyone extremely endearing and admirable; but sometimes he does need to be reminded that not everyone wants to be saved despite how difficult that maybe for him to understand. But that doesn’t mean he won’t stop trying to help. It’s the one thing no one can change about Clark.

So when you two do get some time together it’s pretty much just spent doing whatever it is that you two like to do together like watch a movie, read books, etc or separate whilst still being within the same room as one another in a comfortable silence. Clark is trying to make up for lost time but it’s the fact that he’s trying is all that matters to you.

Plz hold his face in your hands and squish his cheeks! Plz. He will melt into your hold as he brings his bigger hands up to hold against yours his face as he closes his eyes and visibly relaxes. Precious bean deserves to be pampered with love and affection.

You’d defiantly be stealing his cozy beige/cream coloured jumper. You loved how it made your hulking boyfriend look like the epitome of soft, so of course when he’s away you immediately sift through his things and pull the jumper over your body, where for the rest of the day you would be doing stuff in your shared home whilst in his clothes that were *probably* way too big for you and that you had to face the continuous task of having to push up the sleeves constantly so that they wouldn’t get in the way.

So when Clark comes home and sees you wearing his cozy little jumper, he’s utterly enamoured as though it was the first time he’s seeing you all over again. It’s cute and the soft sappy expression on his face will forever and always melt your heart; his soft blue eyes staring at you adoringly like you were the one to have painted the stars in the sky, the slight blush upon his pinch-able cheeks, and the dopey smile upon his pretty lips.

‘Something catch your eye handsome?’ You’d say one day upon catching him gawking at you from the doorway, taking great pleasure in watching him squirm and stumble over his words as he tries to justify his staring without it coming across as creepy. ‘I wasn’t- I’m sorry-‘ you didn’t let him continue as you walked over to him and moved your arms to hold his face in your hands, your thumbs running across his warm cheeks that only seemed to grow warmer beneath your touch.

‘It’s okay, I know you didn’t mean anything weird or creepy by it. I’m just teasing you, you know I love it when you look at me because when you look at me…I feel more seen then I ever have with anyone else.’ You admitted to him, pressing your head into his tits chest, ‘so please don’t stop looking at me in that way for it reminds me that this is real and not some fever dream.’

Went to see Nosferatu today and it was amazing!! The acting, cinematography, sound design, makeup, and everything else was simply incredible. Seriously, it was a gorgeous movie that I would 100% see again.

Thematically, the film is also very powerful, particularly when it comes to the topic of fate and with Ellen Hutter as a character. The amount essays one could write about her, Orlok, Thomas, and the other characters are countless. Her relationship with Orlok I found to be very interesting, especially since there are many ways people can interpret the interactions between her, Thomas, and the titular Count.

Speaking of Nosferatu himself, Bill Skarsgard knocked it out of the park as he always does. He gave an outstanding performance, enhanced by a superb job from the makeup team and cinematography. He also gave the character an amazing and menacing voice. Count Orlok was incredibly menacing and disturbing in this movie. I thought Nicholas Hoult did a fine job, really capturing the fear when he visited Orlok’s castle and Lily Rose Depp did equally well. There was so much tragedy to her character and I think she did an excellent job portraying Ellen.

The rest of the cast is was also phenomenal, especially Willem Dafoe. That man is a master of his craft and gave an excellent performance as the professor. Aaron Taylor Johnson and Emma Corrin were also fantastic as well. This was my first time seeing Emma and they really are phenomenal.

I also want to shoutout Ralph Ineson because I always enjoy his performances (he’s in both FF and Dark Crystal. His voice is perfection). I’m not gonna lie, his voice really reminded me of Alan Rickman. I was glad to see him on this movie.

Anyways, brilliant movie and would highly recommend/see again.

Ps: Wicked was playing next door, so when Nosferatu started on a really quiet intro, all you hear was No One Mourns the Wicked 😭😂

I instantly fell in love with this show from the moment I saw the trailer, and when it finally got its full release, it did not disappoint

(season 1 spoilers under the cut and also probably the longest post I've ever made by far)

if you have any interest in Asian/Chinese mythology and culture, fantastic animation, soundtracks full of absolute bangers, Texas for some reason, stories that touch on the subject of being Asian American, or high schoolers fighting the supernatural/demonic, or if you just like things that are good, this is the show for you

I watched through the intro in every episode, despite the presence of the skip intro button, and I even often went back to rewatch it after it finished, it is so fucking exhilarating and exciting, I have never felt more hyped in my life

I personally love Chinese mythology, but I truly do not believe that proclivity is even remotely necessary to enjoy this show, it's just all around amazing

the writing is phenomenal

Gugu: "It's a jianshi thing, they can't help but count rice."

Ed: "Hey, I can quit anytime I want!"

this fucking killed me

referencing a jianshi's need to count grains of rice is one thing, that's pretty much expected, but the implication that doing math (counting) is an addiction is so ironically model minority racist Asian stereotype coded that it is genuinely hilarious and I love it so much I'm dying

no idea if that was intentional or if I'm just seeing things, but it made me laugh all the same, and maybe I've got rose tinted glasses on because of my love of Chinese mythology and being able to relate to the Asian American experience, but regardless I cannot praise this show enough

the cast is pretty stacked as well, with solid vocal performances by Ali Wong, Lucy Liu, SungWon Cho, Bowen Yang, Jimmy O Yang, and many more talented actors

the complexity of the relationships goes so much further below surface level than your typical supernatural teen action dramedy, for example Jentry and Kit

it's not just Jentry is initially afraid of Kit because he's actually a hideous monster but learns to love him in the end for who he truly is, Jentry, while admittedly initially shocked by his true appearance, makes it clear why she's really upset with him

it's not just because he was a demon or even just because he lied about being a demon, it's not just because he has killed people in the past, it's not even just because he is several centuries older than her, she's upset because he manipulated her, used seduction to lure her in, planted the pearl that used her (partially) dead parents to draw her into a trap, and sought to kill her, and the reason he did all of this was for his personal desire to get his very own human soul

Jentry didn't believe Kit's feelings for her were genuine, and who could blame her? regardless of the fact that his feeling were, or at least eventually became real, he did seduce her and manipulate her for his own selfish ends

and Jentry even recognizes his eventual genuine desire to be with her as entirely self serving and sought out solely for his own happiness, but in the end Jentry's rejection pushes Kit towards self reflection and growth and he realizes his own selfishness, and then he proves that he is capable of putting others first, by sacrificing his life for hers without anything to gain, a sacrifice made all the more meaningful by his permanent (tentatively) status as dead, especially in a show where ghosts and undead are common place

I have so much more to say about the relationships, and not just romantic ones, I could go on forever, but I'll just stick with the example of Jentry and Kit for now

the animation is beautiful and the color pallet is gorgeous, the music is great and could not be better suited to the show, a lot of passion was clearly put into the making of this show

though my favorite part may be the show's willingness to explore the darker horror-oriented side of Chinese folklore

the painted skin demon story, the actual torture of Diyu, the unheard nü gui, the gruesome deaths, Cheng's daughter's desperate want to return to the afterlife, the content can be a bit harrowing to say the least

while still maintaining a largely PG image, the show manages to put a good bit of horror into the story, but by far the most harrowing parts of the world of Jentry Chau vs the Underworld are the real world themes that it portrays

Jentry is surrounded by people that claim to love her and want to protect her, but many characters, whether on purpose or by accident, end up using Jentry for her powers to their own gain

she was cursed with a destructive power that she cannot control, a power that she does not understand, and she has no idea how or why, but everyone seems to want these powers except for her

in a break from the genre standard, whereas the chosen one teenager might have to hide their abilities and responsibilities to keep others safe, pretty much everyone knows about Jentry's predicament right off the bat, and better yet most of them have already formulated their own misconceptions and prejudices

if you thought it was hard fitting in while trying to hide your darkest secrets, imagine how hard it is to be accepted when everyone not only already knows your secrets, but has been given ample reason to fear you because of them

it suddenly makes more sense than ever why so many chosen one teens hide their peculiarities, it is truly a frightening prospect to exist in a world where everyone around you is both different from you, and keenly aware that you are different from them, there's no fitting in after that

it presents a metaphorical dramatization of a real world experience, something I myself have experienced, growing up in America when nobody else looks like you

I grew up in an almost completely white town, and there was no way of hiding the fact that I wasn't also white, though I was really lucky to live somewhere where racism was much less common place, or at the very least less overt than it is in many parts of the country, a lack of racism didn't mean I wasn't different

Jentry goes to a school that seems fairly diverse, though still mostly white, with many other kids who also aren't white, but race isn't what makes her stand out, it's something else that she was (allegedly) born with, something she (seemingly) has no control over, and something for which she is faced with prejudice much like race, though she later discovers that she can actually change and control these things, that's not how it starts

okay this is getting way too long so I'm gonna rap it up here, but I am hardly finished speaking on the topic, if you claim to have made this far into my rambling I will simply call you a liar, but if there are two things to take away from this mess, it's this:

a - I am desperately hoping for a second season

b - GO WATCH THE FUCKING SHOW

Oh my gosh this fandom has SO MANY talented artists! I will say I don’t look at a ton of fanart right now because a lot of it has spoilers in it but here’s a few:

HP Rec Fest: Day 12

December 12th Prompt: A fic from your favorite author

Title: Blackpool by TheDivineComedian Ships/Characters: Regulus Black & Sirius Black, background Sirius Black/Remus Lupin Words: 63,190 Summary: "We don’t drown. We float. That’s how Muggles used to tell, isn’t it?" When Regulus is five, he nearly drowns in the sea off Blackpool. When Regulus is eleven, his brother befriends a ghost. It's not until Regulus is eighteen and ready to die that the Black family's darkest secret finally unravels. It might, perhaps, change everything. (A coming-of-age story with mind magic, star charting, pink petit-fours, two diaries, and a ghost.)

TheDivineComedian is on another level!!! Every single one of their stories is gold, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to gush about this one. It might sound cheesy, but I sincerely think of Blackpool as the apotheosis of what fan fiction — as a medium distinct from original fiction — can accomplish. This story supercharged my understanding of what a great fanfic can be.

In Blackpool, TheDivineComedian somehow manages to interweave [1] a faithful retelling of the hits (the Whomping Willow prank, Sirius and Andromeda run away, Regulus in the cave), with [2] a completely original mystery that re-contextualizes everything, and [3] a ghost story worthy of Poe. It's Gothic. It's frightening. It's tragic and moving and absolutely unforgettable.

The writer has a genius for psychological horror, and there are at least two moments in this story that legitimately made me jump or gasp aloud. (Jump scares! In prose! Even published horror fiction doesn't always manage that for me.). At the same time, the story is structured around memorable recurring images that give the entire piece a meditative, poetic tone.

There is fantastic characterization throughout, but I especially love Blackpool's stunning take on Sirius. A really gorgeous rendition of the character.

And because the prompt was "favorite author," I'd be remiss not to mention that the qualities that make Blackpool so amazing are also abundant in TheDivineComedian's other writing. Check out Styx and Still Life With Skull for more phenomenally twisty psychological horror, Bistable for breathtaking prose and characterization, Pot, Kettle, Black and Let it choke for genius exploration of a core concept, Not By Force for sheer terror...I could go on and on. If you haven't read one of TheDivineComedian's fics before, I couldn't recommend more highly their astonishing body of work.

The Princess Bride Musical Dreamcast

The fact that with all the new broadway musicals are adaptations and NO ONE has done the Princess Bride yet is absolutely criminal, so if that were to hypothetically happen, here's my dream cast list.

Framing Device:

Grandchild: I can't really put anyone for grandchild, since I don't know many child actors, but I do think there should be a rotating cast, like they had with Mathilda on Broadway.

Grandfather: Mandy Patinkin, aka the original Inigo Montoya.

Mother: Robin Wright, aka the original Princess Buttercup.

I think it would be really sweet and fun to have two of the original movie's cast play parts in the framing device, almost like they're passing the baton of telling the story to the next cast.

Main Story:

Westly: Joshua Henry

I don't know if this is a controversial statement, but Westly is a baritone, and I think Joshua Henry would be absolutely perfect. He's charming as fuck, he's a phenomenal actor and vocalist, and he's absolutely gorgeous. Perfect leading man for a story that is about telling the best story ever.

Buttercup: Maria Bilbao

I think Buttercup would be a legit soprano, and as a big fan of Sweeney Todd and the recent revival, Maria Bilbao, who played Johanna, would be absolutely perfect for it. Just go listen to her Green Finch and Linnet Bird and you'll get it.

Inigo Montoya: Colman Domingo

Does Colman Domingo sing? I don't know. Could he act the absolute SHIT out of the confrontation between Inigo and the Six-Fingered Man? ABSOLUTELY. I have this vision of how to adapt the scene, which would also kinda translate Inigo's arc to a musical version. So in the original, the Six-Fingered Man trying anything to manipulate him, mocking him, that great "you have an overdeveloped sense of vengeance line, and Inigo is just not having it. He just keeps repeating the iconic line over and over again. In the musical, I would have the six-fingered man sing, like he's trying to get Inigo to sing with him, to give in to the performance, but Inigo won't sing, he just keeps repeating his line over and over. He refuses to conform to the typical "rising above" narrative and leave the Six-Fingered Man alive, he will be true to himself and his mission and won't let himself be distracted. Anyway, I don't know if this is a good idea, but Colman Domingo would be amazing either way.

Prince Humperdink: Aaron Tveit

I think Prince Humperdink should be the archetypal tenor boy and who is a better representation of current archetypal tenor boys on broadway than Aaron Tveit? Also he's really talented and I think he would act the shit out of this smarmy bastard role.

Count Rugen aka The Six Fingered Man: Josh Groban

I need Josh Groban on Broadway more, and I think he would do great at a quieter villain role, especially coming off a more angry and bloodthirsty role like Sweeney Todd. Also he looks a bit like the original Count Rugen, so that's a bonus.

Vizzini: Alex Brightman

I don't really have much behind this one, other than Vizzini is a weird little guy and Alex Brightman plays weird little guys really well.

Fezzik: Jason Segal

So ideally, I'd actually be able to cast an actor with gigantism to play the part, but I don't know of any, and couldn't find any while googling, so this is my backup essentially. During the lockdowns, a bunch of celebrities did The Princess Bride over zoom, and the scene with Rainn Wilson as Vizzini, Pedro Pascal as Inigo and Jason Segal as Fezzik is genuinely really great, but Jason Segal's Fezzik impression is spot-on and actually amazing. Also, we know from the Muppet Movie, How I Met Your Mother and Forgetting Sarah Marshall that he can sing so, I think he would do great.

Miracle Max and Valerie: Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez

I assume posting this to Tumblr, more people would know who Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez are than the average social media platform, but they are part of Team Starkid and Tin Can Bros and do some fantastic original musicals (please look up the Hatchetfield Trilogy and Spies Are Forever if you haven't seen them yet). They're both extremely talented performers, and also married in real life, so they would absolutely kill this.

Clergyman(Mawage guy): Brian d'Arcy James

I don't really have much of a reasoning behind this, I just think he'd do a good job.

Backups/Close Calls:

Denee Benton as Princess Buttercup

She's one of the best parts of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, and that's saying something because that musical is (in my opinion) one of the best of all time

Pedro Pascal as Inigo Montoya

I don't know if he sings, and he would be amazing for this, but I wanted to challenge myself to think outside the most obvious choice. However, sometimes the obvious choice is a good one.

FFXIV Dawntrail Review!

*Spoilers Ahead*

★ Score: 8/10 ★ Date Finished: July 3rd, 2024 ★ Final Thoughts: I never know where to start with these but I find myself firmly believing you have to have the right mindset about this expansion in order to enjoy it for all that it is. The story is split in two halves, one where the WOL joins Wuk Lamat in her quest to become the next Dawnservant and the second as the whole cast faces a suddenly otherworldly threat to Tural. Both sections are extremely interesting and just as rewarding for paying attention. The start is kind of slow but just having fun with it enhances the enjoyment from my experience. I loved that the first half teaches us so much about Tural from its culture to its many different people, while the second half serves as a more fantastical dilemma to solve. The characters are all very well written and explored through the expansion, it was great to watch Wuk Lamat grow during her journey for the keystones and see what exactly she learns during it. I loved her realization that she alone is not fit for Dawnservant, and rather with the help of her brother they are better suited to take the title together. Erenville and Krile both get some interesting subplots during the expansion that expand on them as characters in their entirety, something that both characters really benefitted from. The area designs are phenomenal across the entire expansion, each one being different from the last but reasonably coexisting with one another. The design of the final area is gorgeous and was well worth the hype. The battle content is probably some of the best out of the game, I enjoyed the challenged presented in the dungeons, trials, and solo duties. They were shockingly a step up from Endwalker difficulty which was already hard. You aren't having fun if there isn't a chance you might wipe first time through...The music was also amazing across the board, not that this game's music ever disappoints. When I consider that this is the ARR of the new story arc its blows my mind, SE did great starting the story a new, a task that was surely daunting. Like I said in the beginning, the expansion isn't any Endwalker, so don't expect that and you'll thoroughly enjoy it I believe

I think my favorite shows of all time are ones that I keep coming back to. They are my “comfort shows”, even if most of them don’t fit the convention of that genre!

1. Doctor Who

A long-running British science-fantasy adventure series. This is one I like to rewatch over and over. My favorite episode is, unsurprisingly, “Blink” and “Silence in the Library”, both written by Steven Moffat. He may not be great at planning out season-long plots, but he writes amazing one-shots.

2. Band of Brothers

An American WW2 drama. This is my number one feel good show. It’s about a company of paratroopers taking part in the Normandy invasions. The chemistry between the cast is fantastic, the pacing and writing is phenomenal, and they fight Nazis.

3. Ultimate Note

A Chinese adventure drama. A group of tomb robbers go on various adventures inside perilous ancient graves, navigating deadly traps and hostile environments. However, they aren’t really after money: they are chasing the footsteps of a group of grave robbers who came before them, to uncover the truth behind the tragedies that had befallen their families. The cast has insanely good chemistry, characters are incredibly well written, and the fight scenes are amazing. The plot is a little confusing at first but very engaging once you get into it. This is the best adaptation of the daomu biji novel series so far. I keep rewatching it for good vibes whenever I come out disappointed after watching a new daomu biji adaptation.

4. What did you eat yesterday?

A comedic Japanese slide-of-life drama. The show follows the domestic life of a middle-age gay couple living in Tokyo, with a focus on the food they buy and cook for themselves. Each episode spotlights a social issue that affects LGBT folks in Japan, along with delicious cooking montages. This is a warm feel-good comfort show that doesn’t shy away from the legal and social issues that gay couples in Japan have to navigate as they go about their normal daily lives.

5. Killing Eve (season 1)

A British action-comedy drama. An MI5 agent tries to track down a ruthless and unhinged international assassin. The agent and the assassin become increasingly, psycho-sexually obsessed with each other, to both their detriment. The first season of this tv series features some of the best dialogue I’ve ever seen. The characters are fascinating, the plot and pacing keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the aesthetics (and outfits) in this show are gorgeous.

Honorary Mention: This is going to hurt

A darkly comedic British medical drama. A junior OBGYN doctor tries to balance his increasingly stressful job with his rapidly imploding personal life. This is Ben Whishaw’s most charismatic performance yet.
