How I Think Episode 2x01 Will Go Down When It Premieres

I DO believe it will be heavily Charlastor centered. I believe this because the Hazbin gang has to face the elephant in the room- Charlie's deal with Alastor. It needs to be talked about, especially now that her dad is living with them.

I think this first ep will have Luci blowing a hole through the roof when he finds out Alastor extorted a very vague favor from his only daughter. This will include Charlie trying to play mediator between both men and her defending Alastor by saying the deal was necessary for the good of all and that she trusts that whatever Alastor asks from her will be something within reason.

I can picture Luci commanding Alastor to recite the exact deal to him word for word. When Alastor does as he asks, he's pissed that there's just so much gray area in what he asked for. Then commands Alastor to cancel his contract with Charlie and to ask Luci for the favor instead.

Alastor hesitates on how to word his reply (seeing as how he is likely working for Luci's exwife) and says he never cancels a contract and "A deal is a deal. Gentleman keep their promises so I hope ladies keep their promises too, especially someone who has potential to be a great ruler someday."

Charlie is touched by his words and tells her dad again that she trusts Alastor. Luci does not hide that he himself does not trust Alastor one bit and orders him to spit it out and ask for his favor from Charlie in front of him right now so they can just get it out of the way once and for all.

Alastor grins deviously and says he's saving his favor for a rainy day, pissing Luci off to no end. So a part from Baxter joining the Hazbin Hotel and the Vees causing their first bit of trouble for the hotel as one half of the plot, I strongly believe the other half of the plot will be Luci trying to give Alastor reasonable ideas of what he can ask from Charlie.

So for the rest of the ep, Alastor is trolling Luci hard by switching the subject or implying that it may be possible that he would ask something depraved from Charlie just to fuck with Luci. He starts touching Charlie a lot like he did in 1x05, being sweet with her while throwing Luci sinister looks behind Charlie's back.

Then since they're roommates for better or for worse, something will happen by the end of the ep that will make Luci trust Alastor a bit more- he saves Charlie from one of the Vees maybe. This earns Alastor his respect but he warns him to be careful with his favor from Charlie because no one messes with his little girl. The episode ends with Luci leaving Alastor in a dark hallway as his grin deepens and he says "Oh, she's in good hands."

I looked up PLL Meredith actress because I was like WHERE do I know her from (it's Center Stage, which is a movie all of you should watch, classic 00s goodness) but when I typed in PLL Meredith, Google predictive text was like, "PLL Meredith tries to kill Aria" and lol, of course she does.

Emily, I don't understand what you were thinking here. You were going to meet Toby at The Grill (always named The Grill) which is a public place where everyone seems to be so people from school would most likely see you with Toby so even if you didn't see Hanna and Spencer, it would be very possible that someone would see you two together and your friends would find out.

"We're wrong" "What does it feel like when we're together?" I can't do an Ezra/Aria version of a Delena conversation right now.

Alright so since we're talking about framing, let's talk about the Harty/Ezra/Aria thing and how even though Harty calls attention to the fact that Aria is in high school, it's still a romanticized framing. It's romanticized because Harty expresses that he knows how and why Ezra would find himself in that situation, he characterizes Aria as being mature for her age so Ezra's attraction to her "makes sense" but there's just the pesky little matter of her being his high school student, which makes Ezra stupid "Dude, you are so screwed" and not abhorrent.

What's it going to be Spencer? You going to impress a boy or your dad?

Piper coming in with acting. I love to see it.

All of this over a man who looks like that.

"Is Alex going to get in trouble over this?" "Who CARES. Kid can pick up balls anywhere, right?" LOL you're a horrible person.

What an underwhelming close to an episode.

I get why we think Louis is just omitting a lot of the affection in his telling (mostly I think its just the fact that he skipped very quickly over the early years) but I also feel like a lot of Lestat's insecurities and actions fully make sense with Louis's telling being more or less what it was? I do think Claudia's childhood was when Louis was happiest and thus the most free with his affection because later when she started becoming trouble Lestat says they were happier before Claudia while Louis clearly thinks the opposite. And Lestat's intense jealousy/antagonism of Claudia makes sense cause now it always feels like Louis was only giving him that affection when Claudia was there to make him happy and it was gone once she left. The pent up frustration and anger exploding into violence only when Claudia comes back and tries to take Louis away exposes his fear that Claudia was the only reason Louis ever cared about him (the cloud scene really showing how much he feared Louis just never loved him at all). Even when Claudia tries to be apologetic to Lestat at first, he purposely antagonizes her before she even tries to take Louis. Nothing could ever excuse what he did in 1x05 but it all sort of came together narratively that he flips out in that moment.

Yeah that's an excellent point, it is very consistent with the way Lestat responded to things.

And yeah to me it's less that Louis fully omits affectionate parts of their relationship over the entire interview (as in, pretending their marriage was passionless in moments when it wasn't) and more that he downplays the frequency/intensity of those moments once he gets beyond the initial seduction phase (as in, he tends to focus on the conflict between himself and Lestat even when things are relatively good between them and makes it seem like they sleep in separate coffins all the time when Claudia's POV implies they slept together regularly and were much more tactile in their affection than Louis would have the audience believe), if that makes sense?

Like it's the long droughts in their affection for each other (notably, post-Louis going vegetarian leading to Antoinette in 1x03 and when Claudia left in 1x05 leading to That Scene) that have Lestat being his worst and most insecure self, but there still were moments of genuine happiness and love in their earlier days that Louis just doesn't discuss in as great of detail, either because he wants to keep those moments private or because he doesn't consider them important to note or because he knows where the story is headed and he wants Daniel and his readers to understand why he and Claudia did what they did and that's more easily done by focusing on the negative stuff that actually made them do it.

Either way, I'm sure I can speak for the other fanfic writers in this fandom when I say the potential for exploring more affectionate moments between them is certainly there and I plan on spending the hiatus doing just that :)

The Machine sends Reese and Finch to a wedding to which Root crashes. Fusco becomes angry at being kept in the dark by the team and takes it upon himself to investigate a string of missing person reports.

Root feeling so lonely that she crashes the wedding as a horse-riding caterer, riding off into the sunset with the woman at risk and sending her home with a quiche Lorraine. Oh, to be that photographer. Also, her asking Finch to dance and staring at the newlyweds while thinking about Shaw. :(

Workin' Moms (with mum) 1x05 Sophie's Choice-ish

Kate is forced by her mother to let go of her old dog. Frankie gets in trouble after taking Anne's advice at face value. Anne's plan to let a tough nanny deal with her kid backfires big time.

Anne just needs to spend time with her kid and actually show an interest. It seems kinda obvious so I'm assuming she didn't have a good parental figure, which as a therapist you'd think she'd be aware of and dealing with??

And that just got me thinking about why I liked the concept of Tom/Abby so much. Like, yes, enemies to lovers is fascinating and it doesn't hurt that the writers have made Tom sympathetic with his backstory and we're starting to see that he didn't kill Liam

But it's important to consider that Abby doesn't know any of this. She doesn't know his past or his trauma. She just knows that he's somehow connected to the murder of her husband and is part of a very powerful family that's not afraid to kill to get what they want.

Imagine how terrifying it would be for her to realize that that same man is romanitcally interested in her

I think back to 1x02 and how she interacted with him at the sheriff's house, at the dinner, and when he stepped out of the shadows at the end to offer her a job. She is terrified of him and doing her best not to show it. She knows if she makes just one slip, she's in trouble.

And yet despite that, she chooses to work for him in the next episode. Not only that, she chooses to actively work against him and his family's plans. She's afraid of him, but her moral code and her desire to find justice is stronger than that fear and it just makes her all the more compelling.

1x04 and 1x05 do a good job of making Tom more sympathetic and 1x07 left us all worried for him. Which is fine. But, it took that edge out of their dynamic. Tom is no longer terrifying to us, not really.

I'm not saying this is a bad place to take Tom's character. Not at all. I've been hoping for Tom to get a proper redemption arc and run off with Abby into the sunset. But that's the thing- he still needs a redemption arc. He still needs to address his past actions and become a friendly figure to Abby before they can have any kind of good relationship.

I don't mind that they made Tom sympathetic. Not at all. Far from it. But I wonder if maybe they did it a bit too soon.

This especially has me thinking with the new episode description we got earlier today. 1x10 has them camping out together in a dust storm and tbh that sounds like a fanfic line. How bad is that going to be for Abby?

I just hope they handle this relationship properly going forward and don't hinge Tom's redemption on his attraction to Abby and her accepting him.

The thing is I don’t think that the Iris storyline is totally ooc for Carlos nor that he didn’t tell him about it. I mean we all know that Carlos cares about the people around him and he feels often guilty and responsible for everyone. So yeah I see that he would marry her. Especially after I read a few interviews with Rafa explaining. Plus some people who were in a similar situation and shared stories like that. And because of the guilt of not seeing Iris and the anxiety I also can understand that he wouldn’t tell TK about it. It’s also something they showed us before that Carlos has trouble communicating and talking about certain topics. (like with his parents). What I don’t like is the way they introduced the topic. (Plotholes and season one aside) If they would have included some flashbacks that would have gone a long way and we could have seen more of their relationship to understand the situation. Long talk short: I don’t think this annihilates Carlos' character or his relationship with TK. I just hope that they show us that Carlos learns from his mistakes and starts to communicate better. I mean we had TK staying and listening instead of running so that’s great. I hope we get something similar for Carlos. But in the end I trust their actors to make the most of it because I know how much they love Tarlos.

Yes, I agree. And I think we will get some good Carlos growth out of this. Rafa was the one to say that tarlos’ storyline isn’t just about a wedding it’s about two people becoming one and I hope part of Carlos’ story here is learning to be open and honest with the person he’s going to spend the rest of his life with (and working on that bad habit of keeping important information from the people in his life)

I also think it’s interesting that the tarlos 1x05 still has been used in articles. We know that it was somehow related to Iris and having it definitely would NOT make all of this suddenly make sense, but it would be a nice start in at least proving that they were friends back then

(that’d being said… If you’re going to add a storyline that’s ‘been in the works since season 1’ but then season 1 didn’t end up having the scenes to make it at least somewhat believable… maybe don’t do the storyline then how about that?)

I think it's both!

Stede wanted to be a pirate because he was stuck in a loveless marriage, in a society that doesn't understand or appreciate him. Where he's been trying to fit in and adjust as much as possible, to please the people around him. So, he turns to books to cope and he finds out that there's pirates! People who are happily doing whatever (and whoever) they want! With a ragtag band of found family. The exact same reason us modern day queer folks love pirates and piracy as a setting in fiction.

He gets there, and it's not exactly what he thought it was, had some issues handling his crew, but he'll be better for it, dammit.

The he accidentally 'kills' the two batminton brothers, realises he ruins this too, not just his family, and decides, well, everyone was better off where I was.

Which, ofcourse, leads to him realising he doesn't belong there either, he should be back with his crew, where he does belong! He should be a pirate, look at how he attacked Doug! How he revels in recounting his adventures! So, back he goes.

BUT they never were very good pirates. They were mostly just chill sailors, vibing on a ship and getting into the occasional trouble.

Stede decides, well, ofcourse now I gave to be a pirate, I like being a pirate! So, he does pirate-y stuff. Kills a couple people, cuz hey, look! They like me for it! I get accepted and loved! (Parrallel to 1x05, anyone?)

In that way, it's his development into the pirate he (thought he) always wanted to be

But what he really wanted, was to find a loving, respecting community, who gets to sail around and have fun. Maybe stick it to The Man a little (his father, his bullies, society)

Now the cruel realities will be setting in. ARE setting in. He's just ignoring it by dicking down Ed and partying. Doing what Ed did at the beginning of season 1: just keep going, keep up the person you've made yourself, and enjoy what you thought you wanted

I can't wait to see Ed helping him out of this (Ed being Stede's Merman this time), and then them figuring out through varying degrees of communication what they want in life and how to make it work for both of then together

Question:

When Stede killed that guy and made him walk the plank, do you guys think that was a mistake because he’s just giving into the toxic masculinity idea that men kill, or do you think it was a part of his character growth because he’s always wanted to be a tough pirate?

you know, i was mulling that last reblog and how some people read lucius' "have you ever been sketched scene?" as insincere and wanting izzy to fuck off (which i totally see and can get now i've been informed it's probably like that), but then i was weighing it against my own take that if lucius heard izzy screaming in 1x10 he would have come to find out wtf was going on, and my feeling that lucius would try to... i dont know, look after him if he clearly needed it? despite his attitude? (see: this lovely peppermint ficlet that made me smile)

and that got me to thinking about when lucius stole that knife for jim, and more than that i was thinking about the fact he's actually okay when he does this but that jim has just treated him horribly right before?

lucius finds out that jim isn't a man in 1x02 and jim shoves him into a trunk overnight until 1x03 and, more pertinently, until stede unwittingly rescues him, and lucius babbles a cover story for jim instead of saying, "jim put me in a trunk overnight and was going to throw me overboard!" which- the level of loyalty (or stupidity) there is baffling to me

i suppose you can argue that lucius doesn't know stede well enough yet to know if saying that would result in stede disciplining jim or whether it would result in stede telling lucius he's got a wild imagination, or worse stede throwing him off the ship for causing trouble or because jim is more valuable an asset, but either way, the next bit happens

lucius takes off after stede, ends up going to the pirate republic with him, watches jim the whole time, dings that the knife is jim-enez, pilfers the knife and then hands it over

it may have proven to jim that lucius is a good friend, and it may have proven to jim they didn't have anything to worry about in regards to lucius betraying them, but lucius was already okay. lucius was out of the trunk he'd been held in overnight and did not have to do any of that. he pickpocketed spanish jackie who has a fucking nose jar amongst other jars and was about to take his captain's nose off to start her next collection

anyway my decision here is that lucius is just... kind. it isn't a matter of "he's ordered by blackbeard to pet blackbeard during his mourning and he's scared but he's under orders so he's going to do it" i think even without the order he would have gone in there if he was needed. he risks his ass time and again to help the people he cares about, and he shows kindness to stede and ed in different moments solely because they need his help

and he is so defensive of them both!!

which leads me down to: regardless of the read of the sketch scene, if izzy really, truly needed help, regardless of everything in 1x05, lucius would be there to try and offer it, because that's just who lucius is

and i fucking love him for that ;_;

(i also saw a photo of izzy being tossed overboard and someone said how the ropes weren't tied well and someone else said it was probably for on-set safety but i honestly don't believe that! if they wanted to make izzy look properly tied, he would have looked properly tied. izzy was not properly tied because they wanted him to survive being tossed in the water, they just wanted him to either a) survive elsewhere or b) get back on board as a crewmember instead of a captain

Shared Losses - A Lan/Moiraine Fic

getting this in before 1x05 tonight. nearly the last of my episode 1x04 fic batch.

Title: Shared Losses

Warnings: Near death fears. Mentions of Moiraine’s unfortunate stabbing.

Summary: Continuation of the 'you always get emotional when I drink' scene from episode 1x04 of the show. Lots of feelings.

Teaser:  'Moiraine eyed him for a long moment, one corner of her mouth still pulled up into a slight smile. Then she sighed and said, “I hope it was excellent wine. At the very least.”

“Not even close.”'

Lan found himself smiling with fondness at the intensity of Moiraine’s defiant love pulsing through their bond. There had been no gentle comfort in the taking of his hand. She had simply grabbed him, with all of her stubborn determination and will, holding him to her. 

“I shouldn’t have had a drink,” he murmured, feeling the flicker of confusion in her that this was his response to what she had just said. He let that linger for a moment, tipping his head back, still smiling. “You always get emotional when I drink,” he told her, which was perfectly true. Last time he had found her silently crying while brushing down Aldieb because she was just such a good horse.

For a moment there was a slight flash of indignation from her. Then it mellowed to begrudging acceptance and, finally, as he’d hoped, gentled into amusement. She huffed out a little laugh, which was good to hear from her, even as her eyes glared reproachfully at him. But the warmth he had kindled in her remained in the bond, momentarily shielding her from the darkness of her fears and failures.

He could read her emotions as well as his own. Better, he sometimes felt, as they were not strained by the closeness of his influencing perspective, or the miasma of his thoughts and intentions. They were simply her. Pure, and raw, and real.

“Can I not be emotional of my free will and volition?” she asked with mock-offence, a faint lilt of humour in her voice. 

It was something he rarely heard these days, and savoured all the more for that. He was glad she had chosen to let them linger in this little moment of peaceful comfort and gentle teasing. She needed that.

“You may do anything you wish, Aes Sedai,” he replied, reacting to her uncharacteristic moment of levity with exaggerated formality. Then added, a little wryly, “As you always do.”

Moiraine eyed him for a long moment, one corner of her mouth still pulled up into a slight smile. Then she sighed and said, “I hope it was excellent wine. At the very least.” 

“Not even close.” 

“You are not bound by the Three Oaths, Lan” she said, sighing and resting her head against his shoulder, an indication of how exhausted she was. 

He had felt that from her before. It was why he had left the warmth of the fire and the company of the others’. Her shift with Logain had ended, and it weighed upon her like a physical burden. She had needed him there with her to help her carry it.

Though her tone remained casual as she continued, still tinged with that hint of humour, her emotions shifted. They became a little more subdued. Darker. 

“You can give me the occasional white lie,” she told him, seeming to deflate a little against him, eyes closing as she mumbled, “If it will improve my mood.” 

“We drank the finest of vintages,” Lan said quietly, putting an arm around her waist, thumb absently murmuring up and down at the small of her back. “And started each glass with a toast to you.” 

“Mm, I said you could give me a white lie, Lan, not a gleeman’s farce,” she chastised gently. But there was a soft smile on her lips and she leaned more and more heavily into him, even as she said “There are lines.” 

She became more sombre still, and he knew the moment of harmless teasing, and the brief setting down of their burdens, had passed. Something was troubling her. Troubling her to the extent that it showed clearly through their bond. Though she did not disguise her negative emotions as she once had, early into their partnership, sometimes she still tried to hide them. He suspected that was from herself, more than it was from him, however.

“We will find them,” he said quietly, giving her hand a small squeeze. She turned to look at him, and he felt the flicker of...Despair in her. With the arm looped around her waist, he pulled her closer to him, grounding her with him, and repeated the words with all the grim defiance she usually brought to their partnership, “We will find them.”

“Of course,” she said, but the words were dull, and the shadows under her eyes seemed to deepen even as he watched her. 

Through the bond he felt her wrestle with her emotions, attempting to bring them back into line. Like a stubborn stallion that had not yet been broken, they bucked and resisted her. He squeezed her side, pressing a soft kiss to her temple, holding there until he felt her quiet a little. 

“For now,” he said, insistent, letting nothing show in his own emotions except solemn resolve, “You should rest.” She glanced up at him, and he could see the exhaustion in her eyes, even as she tried to keep it from him in their bond, not wanting to press it upon him. Frowning slightly, he admonished quietly, “You should not have troubled yourself with Logain.”

“My sisters were struggling,” she said, rolling her head on her neck a few times to work out an old cramp that often gathered between her shoulder blades. He rubbed at it without thinking, pressing thick, callused fingers into the spot. He stayed silent, letting her make her excuses, even though he could have made for her at this point, “I had a duty to help them.” 

“The soldier who lasts the longest in a battle is not the best warrior,” he said, tone as resolute as his grim disapproval, “He is not the most skilled swordsman, the most tactically gifted, or the strongest-”

“He is the smartest,” Moiraine took over, meeting his eyes with a barely perceptible little sigh, “The one who knows how and where to best spend his energy.” A soft smile touched her lips, even as she frowned at him for daring to remind her that she was human, and had limits, “We have had this conversation before, my friend.”

“Yes, we have,” he agreed, “And I let you finish your part, you’ll notice.” 

“I noticed. It was appreciated,” Moiraine said evenly.  

“I would appreciate it if you would get some sleep,” he countered flatly, refusing to let her deflect him from this. 

On the brink of certain death for three days, struggling to fight off a deadly poison, and the moment she was healed she didn’t go to rest, but spent hours maintaining a shield over Logain. Only his Aes Sedai.

“Very well,” she said at last, acquiescing to sense, swinging her legs up onto the bed, over his lap, trapping him in place. A clear little display that if she was going to stay and rest, he would be doing likewise. “ I probably should sleep off the unfortunate emotions that came from your night time revels with the other Warders while I was expending myself to protect us all from Logain’s influence.”

He favoured her with a small flicker of amusement through the bond for her efforts. Then he allowed her to nudge him with an elbow to make room for her to lie down beside him. He tucked her in against the wall, keeping his body to the outside, which involved a moment of awkward maneuvering, but she bore it without complaint. They each had their quirks and habits, and after twenty years, neither had any illusions about changing the other.

As she repositioned herself on the bed, her clothing shifted, and his eyes caught on the taut pink skin of the new scar she would carry with her as a legacy of their fateful visit to the Two Rivers. 

Before he could stop himself, he had reached out, two fingers trembling over the healed rent in her. He had worried over that wound for days. He had relived it happening. The song of battle pulsing around him like weaves of power, blood and screams pounding against his skin. A beautiful dance of death that he and Moiraine performed so effortlessly together, every step embedded in their bones, every breath of him attuned to every breath of her. 

Then that blade had punched into her shoulder. She had staggered. And collapsed. And the music they moved to had died as though the Wheel had cut its player’s throat. 

The pain of the wound that had burst through him, too, had been nothing to the agony of his failure. His duty was to protect her, to weave a web of living steel and death around her so she could weave her power. They had gotten through his defences. He had allowed them to hurt her. He had all but rammed the damn thing into her himself.

The bond went still. 

Like breath snatched from lungs after crashing into frozen water, everything just stopped. Her body seized with the sudden shock of that cold, the shock of it gripping her bones like a vice.

Rough calluses scraped against the fresh scar on her shoulder, his eyes fixed upon it, as though he could heal it utterly with just his gaze. His hands were warm, and surprisingly gentle. His touch always made her feel that, even after all these years with him. This was a man who wielded swords as simply as other men breathed. His hands were one of the many complex contradictions that made up her Warder. Rough, callused, so easily able to kill and butcher. Yet tender. And comforting. As capable of crafting poetry as war, she knew. 

His touch was featherlight, deft, and soft. But his emotions had turned as hard and cold as an iron battering ram, slamming against her through their bond. There was pain there. Pain, and residual fear from their panicked flight here, while the Wheel turned ever onwards, bringing her closer to death with each pass. 

Those were natural emotions. She felt some of them, too. Her shoulder was still tender, despite Kerene’s care, and still twinged on occasion. She also shared the flutterings of worry at what might well have meant her own death, had Lan not managed to locate the encampment in time. That, too, was natural. Logic told her that she was healed, now, the poison cleansed. Yet her body remembered hurtling all too inevitably towards death, and there was a certain whiplash of Healing that her emotions had not adjusted to.

Lan’s pain and fear were but a fine veil draped over the beast that truly tormented him, however. Guilt. Guilt, and shame. Failure. Crashing down upon him more strongly than the shield currently binding Logain. 

Moiraine turned over onto her other side, dislodging Lan’s hand from her shoulder, facing him once more. The act of separating him physically from the scar on her skin seemed to jolt him back to himself. His focus shifted, clarifying, allowing him to see her again. 

Reaching out, Moiraine cupped his face in her hand, thumb softly stroking his cheek. “Shared losses, remember?” she said quietly. The words were gentle but her tone was utterly unyielding, “What happened was neither your fault, nor mine. The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills.” 

Darkness contracted through the bond, a kind she had rarely felt from him. Not since the early days of their bond, when he had been when he had been struggling to cope with such a fresh grief. Both of them had been steeped in agony, back then. She felt it had made their bond closer, sharing such heavy burdens between them so early on. He had shouldered hers, and she his, in a way that felt so natural it had almost been frightening.

What she felt from him now? That frightened her.

“I am the thing that is made to stand between you and the Wheel, Moiraine,” he said, his face set, expression like one she might carve from stone. “I am what will catch in its spokes long enough to stop it from crushing you, for even if only for a moment. I am the one it shall take, so that it will spare you.” She shivered at the intensity with which he said that. The certainty. The absolute truth in him. He closed his eyes, turning away, unable to look at her as he breathed, “I should have been the one to take that blade. I failed you.” 

“No,” she said, shaking her head, her body shaking with her, as she tried to handle all of his emotions alongside her own. 

Reaching over, she seized his hand once more, and held it tight to her chest. He squeezed back reflexively, but continued to hang his head, eyes closed.

 “Look at me,” she breathed. Then, when he did not respond, again, voice more ragged, a crack sounding in it she could not stop, “Look at me.”

She did not shield the bond at all. Did not do anything to dampen the raw emotion she felt for him in that moment. She wanted him to feel it all.

“I would not live if you had failed me, Lan,” she said, clutching onto his hand, letting some of her emotions bleed into her face and her words, even though he could feel them, so he would know exactly what this meant to her. “I would have succumbed to that poison if that were true. What is done is done, and I am still here because you did not fail. Not even close.” 

He closed his eyes again, but she felt gratitude from him. Though it was tempered still by a lingering fog of regret. 

Irritably pushing aside her shirt, she bared the wound on her shoulder, feeling him flinch from the sight of it, “It’s just another scar, now,” she said, sliding two fingers under his chin and turning his head, gently but firmly, up so that he faced her. He did not resist, and he met her eyes. She held his gaze, as she whispered his mantra to him, “We learn from it. We move on. We never-”

“Get struck in the same place again,” he finished, nodding with her. She nodded back, relieved. The words were ragged and broken, but they had come. That was enough for now.

She knew that the guilt of it would haunt him, no matter what she said. But he felt calmer, and more settled, through the bond. She would content herself with that. She could not blame him for his guilt, and his grief. To lose a bonded partner, a prospect he had faced down each day, as she had struggled to fight off the poison, and had slipped further and further from him- She shuddered at the mere thought.

Lan seemed calmer now, and even managed a faint smile for her when she leaned in and touched her forehead to his, “We should rest,” she murmured to him, “I know that you need sleep as well. You haven’t for days now. Stay with me?”

“You do not have to ask,” he replied, and she smiled to him, kissing him on his forehead before she withdrew.

Sighing heavily, she turned around on the small bed with difficulty and settled down to sleep. Lan remained beside her. There weren’t any gossiping townsfolk here whose views might be influenced if they heard that the two of them were sharing a bed together. Somehow it never occured to most of them that it was perfectly possible for a man and woman to sleep together without fucking. They did it most nights. The roads were cold, and their bodies warm. Besides, they were intimately bonded, and had been for twenty years. A bed was the least of the things that they could share.

So Lan settled in against her, his large body wrapping hers. Most nights they arranged it so that she was on the outside, head tucked against his back, arms around his chest. But this was more protected, while he still felt so raw and concerned for her safety. Besides, it also allowed him to continue rubbing at that knot between her shoulders, which he began almost at once, so she did not protest. 

“We begin again tomorrow,” Moiraine murmured quietly into the darkness that enveloped her and her Warder. 

“Whatever it may bring,” Lan murmured in reply, completing the phrase.

The constant blink, blink going from one side to another in the front porch of the house was what made you grunt, sinking your face yet sleepy into Sam's pillow. Palming the bed because of the lack of two big, strong arms around you, another complaint left your lips. You opened one eye to check that your boyfriend wasn't there, by your side, understanding at that precise instant what was provoking that annoying sound. The third morning you woke up alone in Sam's old room.

Sighing, you got up to wear a pair of sweatpants before going downstairs where Sarah and the kids were already having breakfast. As soon as they saw the upset gesture on your face, they knew the other Wilson was in trouble. You walked out to the porch, guiding your bare feet to the grass at the moment you glanced at your boyfriend making a somersault in the air a second before grabbing the shield as if it was a frisbee. Cross-armed, you wait for Sam to notice your presence. You wouldn't lie, he looked really good all covered in sweat and panting, but that's another story.

“Hey… you”.

The words, the smirk, the lack of caffeine running through your veins, all of that made you frown at the charming smirk he drew on his lips —a smile that usually made your legs feel weak—. When he was conscious that that time it wasn't going to work with you, not moving a single inch of your body, Sam bowed his head down exhaling a chuckle.

“You haven't started to be Captain America and I'm already fed up with that shield”.

“I won't b—”.

“Yes, Samuel. You will. You know it, I know it, everybody does. 'Cause that's the right call, what America and the world need you to be”. Your tone was less rude and more encouraging as the syllables were leaving your throat.

Your boyfriend kept his dark cocoa eyes on yours, aware of the meaning of your affirmation and what he needed to hear. Not a speech about history, not a bunch of facts learned by heart from a book, not a lie to disguise reality. Sam put his orbs down, straight to the shield hanging from his right hand, not being able to forget the image of it covered in blood. He licked and bit his bottom lip, not conscious of you coming closer until he saw your fingertips touring the star majestically engraved in the center.

“I can't do it”. He whispered, with his insecurities coming afloat.

“Deep inside you, you know you can, Sam”. Your hand flew up to his chest, straight to where his heart is supposed to be beating. You felt it under your palm. “Just for one time, don't hear what people say, but what that mantel provokes right here”.

Your boyfriend nodded with lips pressed together, brooding over what really meant to be that symbol, to take Steve's place. Leaning forward, you kissed his forehead, causing him to close his eyes and wrap his free arm around your lower back to push you as much closer as he could. You embraced him tighter to your chest, resting your cheek on his shoulder and placing one last kiss on that side of his neck.

“And now…” You whispered with such a feigned sweet tone. “Come back to bed, or you'll find that vibranium somewhere very uncomfortable”.

Sam couldn't help but chuckle, moving his orbs towards your petty smile, not breaking the warm hug. He kissed his teeth in advance of putting some distance between both to keep the shield inside its brown leather pack and carry it indoors the house, followed by your steps. Sarah smiled at you, making a playfully silent toast with her mug of coffee as she watched her brother taking your recommendation of coming back upstairs. A brief bow made her laugh, disappearing to the top floor.

What you didn't expect was a strong arm pulling you inside the bathroom when you intended to head to the bed. The door got closed because your back against the old oak pushed it. Sam placed an arm above your head, while you squinted at him and hid your hands behind your lower waist. You saw him rubbing his chin, pretending to be lost in his thoughts, puckering his lips.

“D'you know how hot you look when you threaten me?” He mumbled fixing his eyes on yours, not being able to contain the proud smile curving up your mouth.

“Can get a sense…” You replied sensually into his ear, as you leaned on your tiptoes.

“'Course you do, girl”.
