bleeding out and feeling yourself fading but then you hear daryl’s voice

it’s a miracle how instantly that makes you open your eyes when you were seconds away from death just before that

bringing you flowers and random little gifts while you’re healing up in bed but only putting them next to you when you’re asleep because he’s too shy

him not used to the days being so quiet without you being two steps behind him

finding himself missing your ridiculous quips when he’s on a supply run killing walkers and having to fill the silence with your voice in his head, recalling all the things you regularly say to him, because it feels too weird without you

alright that's the best you're gonna get with preview. but LET'S BREAK IT DOWN. so we go from logan doing literally all of the talking, all of the video introduction and explaining the activity, and alex even with his whole "oooh ray of sunshine" image clearly thinks this is stupid, he even makes little sarcastic hand gestures when logan describes it. and even right in the beginning he's not looking at the camera he looks like an adhd kid sat next to the window (come on alex look alive). but THREE MINUTES of an admittedly stupid game he's done a total 180, smiling and laughing and literally that wasn't that funny but now i'm gonna laugh because you're the one who said it and leaning in to read the cards for the first time and- well logan is mostly unchanged. from the first question he decided his main task for this video was literally just to check out his teammate at point blank range with his emotions very very clear on his face (alex is OBLIVIOUS af but then again he did pull out the "oh you're playing that game are you?" and i was NOT ready for that so who knows)

ok so episode 1 is very much a warmup for the rest of the series i know that. obviously this isn't the "reaching stratospheric levels of homoeroticism that actually leave a wake of collateral damage to all compulsory heterosexuality in a 50 m radius" as charlos but holy shit it's a lot more obvious than i thought!!!

... Actually, did they say they'd been married that long in this show? They keep talking about their 10k-year vacation, not their marriage.

Point being, I'm going to try sussing out Peri's New Wish age at a later date using some information, though my 'fics will stick to my already established timeline.

There's a Dancing Tarantula movie AND a Crimson Chin movie? Dev's probably been in and out of this theater a lot lately, because those posters match the ones in his room. I wonder if he has a private theater and exclusive screening rights.

Between this and "Multiverse" (the other of its pair)... Not sure I love the implication that after the Irep drama, Dev's not been taking Peri to school and Peri's not making the effort to be near him. Uh-oh...

I get the purpose of making the item easy to draw by having it face us, but I laugh.

Now that I think about it (in retrospect after Peri bragged about how he'd been following Dev around even after he quit)... I like how Peri thinks his parents hover too much and then he also hovers too much.

Geez, fairy kids have it rough. Terrible Twos, pooferty, and now this? Apparently growing into your magic just wrecks you.

Also, I want a 'fic about Hazel's parents inviting Cosmo, Wanda, and their son over and everyone (especially Antony who probably thinks he's Peri's age) just asks Peri a bunch of questions about if he's doing school or a job or whatever and he's just /laughs nervously.

Hazel's parents are so good to her and they've clearly taught her to communicate well and politely set boundaries. The contrast between them and Clark and Connie Carmichael is hilarious.

I'm glad Cosmo and Wanda have no sense of things Hazel would find gross.

This and "Multiverse of Jenkins" were really fun filler episodes!

Day 1 - Favourite Dan and/or Phil quote:

the entire opening from the pinof 7 bloopers is hilarious but by far one of my favourite quotes (one that has continually haunted me since 2016, when I watched it for the first time) is:

D: … I’m gonna hit you. [laughs] Shut up!

I quote this weirdly often in my fics. In fact, I’m pretty sure two of my recent published fics use it as a reference. I didn’t realise until now that I was partially misquoting it XD

I also can’t not mention, from Basically I’m Gay (the entire part from when Dan starts talking about Phil is linked, quote starts about twenty seconds later):

Day 2 - Favourite Dan and Phil Series:

OUGHHHHH THIS ONE IS ACTUALLY REALLY DIFFICULT—

what is now called Season 1 of the Sims 4 and the Undertale playthrough are VERY close contenders, but I think my favourite series is actually the DITLs! (there’s no playlist for this one rip)

you can easily split them into two or three sections (depending on if you count any of The Making Of videos for TABINOF, the calendars, or the prep for II as DITLs), and each section has something wonderful to enjoy!

the ‘local’ DITLs (Manchester and London) are incredibly domestic, with the boys just going about a semi-typical day, and the Festive DITL honestly just turns that up to a hundred, I love the domestic ones so much

the ‘holiday’ ones too (Japan and Australia) are also super fun, because we get to see the boys doing silly touristy things like holding koalas or hanging around one of the busiest intersections in Tokyo (I also keep hearing conspiracies about the Australian one LMAO)

the ‘making of’ videos are their own unique source of slice-of-life entertainment, because They’re Getting Important Stuff Done but they’re making it entertaining for us too

my favourites are the original DITL and Festive DITL <3

Day 3 - Favourite Dan and/or Phil Outfit:

used @phanoutfitsblog’s screenshots for most of these, with the exception of Dan’s initial look in the baking video (also I’d be lying if I said that Sister Daniel wasn’t high up on this list hhhh)

can Phil stop being pretty for FIVE MINUTES JEEZ— it’s actually incredibly difficult to pin down favourite outfits for him bc he just. Keeps. On. WINNING.

his red shirt in the red carpet roasting video is probably the most iconic so far but it could really have been literally any other outfit he’s worn in the last several years

and Dan’s no slouch, either! this man is gorgeous and he ROCKS it! he wore this particular shirt (?) to an interview (or at least it was framed like one) and he looks INCREDIBLE in it but I can’t remember where I found the other screenshot so I won’t post it lmao

his initial appearance in the Halloween baking video before he changes into Sister Daniel is also equally pretty bc of the makeup and honestly? gimme your gender Howell

other honourable mentions include a recent magazine shoot that I’ve forgotten the name of (some phan I am LMAO, shame on me for only remembering the pink), and his dystopia motorcycle twink shirt from the red carpet video

Day 4 - Favourite Joint Content

oooh, difficult question, that’s like choosing a favourite child! still, the answer to this one is a lot simpler than Day 5 below, because it’s the original PINOF, as well as the photobooth challenge!

while PINOF wasn’t my initial introduction to the boys (that goes to the Sims 4), it’s one of the earliest things I watched of them, and almost certainly what got me to stick with them! (along with the Sims 4… LMAO)

Dan says he was being ironic when he said ‘this is the most fun I’ve ever had, and maybe it’s the tism kicking in, but he doesn’t sound sarcastic or ironic when he says that

it’s pretty clear from the get go that they’re two boys (boys in love, even) making a silly video, having absolutely zero idea that it’s going to change the world <3

the pb challenge, meanwhile, is just incredibly funny, I remember almost hurting myself from laughing so hard the first time I watched it XD it hasn’t aged perfectly, but that’s most things from ten years ago

the honourable mentions list is VERY long so I won’t put all of them here LMAO, but the Get Down video is one of them XD

Day 5- Favourite DanAndPhilGames video

oooh, another difficult question, here, because more often than not, the answer is yes! I could say the Halloween baking video one day, and the Katamari video the next, and one of the Sims 4 building videos because I’m a sucker for renovations (also, the GAY WEDDING and the RETURN in general!), and honestly there’s so many videos I’ve forgotten over the years (LOVE NIKKI!) but I think I’m gonna say the finale of Undertale!

it makes me cry every time I rewatch the series, and it’s such a beautiful story, and yeah I’m a mess just thinking about it, because the fact that they chose to be pacifists from the get go is one of the genuinely sweetest things I can think of

Day 6 - Favourite Solo Video(s)

oh no I don’t actually know how to fully answer for Dan, but at a guess… yeah who am I kidding, it’s BIG and We’re All Doomed! :D (yes I know WAD! isn’t a video (yet, hopefully) but it overrides literally everything else bc I loved that night so much)

BIG, as a queer person, is just honestly so incredibly important to me, because being able to listen to other queer people — very successful ones, too — and how they’ve struggled in ways I’ve been fortunate to have never suffered, and how they overcame it all, and are still dealing with it to this day? yeah I’m still so proud of Dan for it all, he deserves the life he’s made for himself <3

WAD is in a similar vein to this, but with the addition of me being able to actually MEET Dan and then watch him on STAGE as he did his comedy show! I made him laugh with a joke about Australian summer being hell, and that’s probably one of the best things that has ever happened to me <3

honourable mention goes to his Keep On Movin’ video, bc that’s just damn impressive

Phil, meanwhile… I have so many videos to choose from, and while Coming Out To You carries the same importance as BIG, if not more since I watch it more (I love them equally, but COTY is only eight minutes long okay), I am actually struggling to choose a favourite outside of it!

mostly because all my favourite Phil videos… are joint content videos!

that being said, his fourth ACNH video is incredibly sweet, and I think I might go rewatch the series!

also his house review videos (the apartment one and the expensive house one) are pretty iconic

Day 7 - What do Dan and Phil mean to you?

(oh god I am so sorry for this monster)

I don’t remember 2016 being a particularly rough year for me, despite the many star-studded losses (rip Anton Yelchin especially), and maybe it would’ve been that way even if I hadn’t found Dan and Phil, but finding them at what could be considered their initial peak of fame was probably one of the best things that could have happened to me, because I was just a year into my experiences with internet fandom, and what better way to do that than get yeeted into the chaotic world of two British dorks on the net that everyone and their cat shipped?

I may have missed out on the radio shows, sure, and I missed out on pretty much every YouNow and Rize show and whatnot because I’m a goose, but I came into the fandom just in time to see TATINOF live, even though I couldn’t get a meet and greet ;w; one day I’ll catch Phil

I distinctly remember being at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod, which was an hour south of Brisbane, on the same night as TATINOF, and absolutely booking it back with my mum to Brisbane, stressing the entire way even as we got McDonalds and I got changed out of what was either my school uniform or my performance uniform (I can’t remember) into something more normal for a night at QPAC

and yet, once I was there, I had probably one of the best nights of my life, because TATINOF, in my opinion, is the best thing the boys have ever done on stages (II and WAD! are very close tho don’t get me wrong)

someone helped me draw cat whiskers on my face, I remember chatting happily to other phannies around me (what about, I have long forgotten), and I remember how loud it was, and how much I didn’t mind that, for the first time in my life

I bought more merch at II and WAD!, because I was either given more money or I actually had money to spend since I got my job by WAD!, but, even when disappointed by the fact that I couldn’t afford much, I have cherished my TATINOF lanyard since that fateful night in August 2015, because it symbolises just how much I love the two gay dorks who are now two of my biggest queer role models

the fact that they chose us over fame and fortune in the entertainment industry? I’m so grateful for that, because it means, even though we gave them utter hell (I wasn’t quite one of them, but I probably did a few minor demon things as a teen LMAO), they cared, and still care, about us, the audience

this is getting SO long and waffly, oh my GOD, this is why my current fic is eleven k long already, uhhhh tl;dr they’re weird and queer (affectionate), I’m weird and queer, and I am so glad I found them, because having them in my life is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me, down to graduating from high school and university and having their videos to watch <3

also sorry this very rapidly gets unhinged bc i'm speed finishing this 2 years after i started it

1. Lang Qianqiu’s “I’ll never be like you” in Book 1

I mean first of all, I am so weak for Xie Lian being a badass and what compares to “Fight me and you will die for sure”?

But mostly I love this whole arc a lot and particularly the confrontation on the road. There’s something about the ahh almost generational parallels of Jun Wu -> Xie Lian -> Lang Qianqiu that just gets me. In another world, you could almost make them into a little heavenly dynasty of tragedy and corruption — and I think this moment crucially incapsulates why that doesn’t happen and how wrong Jun Wu is about Xie Lian.

Because Xie Lian’s cover-up feels and looks like exactly the kind of corruption and cruelty that Jun Wu wants from him. Sure Xie Lian didn’t go through with destroying Yong’an the first time around but look at this: isn’t this just proof that he can still be Jun Wu’s successor? Isn’t this proof that Jun Wu knows him better than anyone else? 

and then the more we actually learn about it, the more we realize how much XL was trying to avoid exactly that happening. And the confrontation on the road, Lang Qianqiu swearing he will never become like XL—and XL laughing, saying 'good' hnnnn brain go brr

2. Xie Lian’s “Then the heavens are wrong.” in Book 2

litcherally the reason i fell in love with him! my good good boy, my baby boy who's going to fall so! so!!! hard off that pedestal! yeah!!

3. Guoshi explaining Hua Cheng’s past in Mt. Tong’lu in Book 5

I just! a) am a sucker for Hua Cheng and b) love the way this backstory explains and directly contradicts Hua Cheng's self-view, own version of the story, etc. There's so much meaty goodness in HC's character and I love the way this backstory tells so much about him in sort of horrifying ways

4.  Hua Cheng after the final fight with Jun Wu in Book 5

i know ppl are like omg why did hc play xl like that SUCH a drama queen but TBH i think he was pretty much 100% prepared to go! he accomplished his desire of serving and protecting xl! he did the thing! and i love the sense that he really thought he was gone at this point and that xl begging him to stay is what gave him the new purpose to come back despite that being a bonkers wild impossibility

5. chap...ter....190 in Book 4

Pokémon Reborn Screenshot Let's Play: Chapter 14

Oooh it’s a great day today, folks! Have you noticed this latest part hasn’t taken a century to be released? That’s because the new way of taking screenshots has worked…relatively well! 

After doing some searching around, I was made aware of the program PicPick, which (among other features) acts as a way to take screenshots, either of your whole screen or of a specific active window or what-have-you. Heck, you can even assign certain hotkeys to those functions so you can take screenshots without needing the program open! 

It…wasn’t entirely a smooth setup, admittedly. While I was trying to set up the hotkeys the way I wanted (by default, it’s Alt + PrintScreen, which won’t work for me because Alt in Reborn is the speed-up key), I kept getting a specific error that seemed to imply the issue was OneDrive or Dropbox (the former for me, since I don’t have Dropbox) hijacking the PrintScreen key, which seemed to be confirmed by several Google searches. However, after nearly two hours of various fixes, I was at my wit’s end and just hopped on a Discord call with some friends so I had people to actually talk to.

And it was at that point that one such friend saw the error and pointed out an alternative that I hadn’t considered. See, I had unassigned keys to all but the “screenshot active window” function because I was like “well I’m not gonna use those so…” However, he suggested that all the functions needed to be assigned hotkeys in order for things to work. So I went back and fixed that, and lo and behold…yeah, that was the problem, OneDrive had nothing to do with it. 

I had planned to start the play session at 1 PM that day. I actually started at about 3 PM. All of this because I wanted to release these chapters faster and take better screenshots. Be grateful for…at least five seconds.

Now, with that story out of the way, onto the actual content. And that starts with a recap of the events of the last chapter!

Xera continues battling her way through the Onyx Trainers’ School on her way to Florinia and the Gym, as well as answering quiz questions, which is another requirement for anyone looking to challenge Florinia.

In front of the door to the Gym, Xera encounters Fern once again. He insists that she’s only gotten this far because of “luck and pity,” then gives her one last chance to give up and go home. She refuses, and the two engage in a battle.

Xera is able to defeat Fern, to the latter’s frustration. Fern concludes Xera having a Badge is the difference between them, and decides to take on the Reborn League himself in order to surpass her.

After Fern departs, Xera is finally able to enter the Gym, where she goes on to challenge Head Instructor Florinia and her desert-themed Grass team at last.

After a battle of wits and Field Effects, Xera emerges victorious, earning her second Gym Badge: the Canopy Badge.

Soon after the battle, Amaria enters the arena with a report for Florinia. Apparently, Borealis was recently seen around the Beryl Ward; as such, it’s highly likely that is where Victoria is being held captive.

According to Florinia, both the Jasper and Beryl Wards are also experiencing rampaging plants like what happened in Obsidia Ward, except on a more widespread and severe scale. 

Because Xera is the only one who has both taken down a PULSE machine and seen Borealis, Florinia enlists her as the person to investigate these incidents. To help with this, Florinia installs a new app onto Xera’s PokéGear: the PULSE Dex, which acts as a PokéDex for PULSE-modified Pokémon.

While the OTS students take notice of Amaria’s arrival and begin growing eager for a battle or demonstration from a celebrity Gym Leader, Florinia urges Xera to get going as she prepares to make arrangements for Xera’s entry into Jasper Ward, through which she can then reach Beryl.

So that’s what the next plot hook is- traveling into the Jasper and Beryl Wards, with three main objectives: take out the PULSEs, track down Borealis, and rescue Victoria. Xera’s got two Gym Badges by now, so- what could go wrong? Nothing? Everything? With my luck, it could go either way, but we won’t find out just staying on the intro post, so- here we go!

2: What scene did you first put down?

im pretty sure i started at the beginning of chapter 1 and kept going from there!! i have not fully continued with this “writing everything in chronological order” strategy tho (although that is still how the majority of it is getting written). but i have written several important scenes that will happen much later in the plot, and i often read through them bc they make me very happy hehehe. for funsies (and to probably make revy yell at me when lo sees this post, lol) i will show u the names of each of these in the little folder i have for them in my scrivener project:

6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?

well it is about twice as popular as my second most popular ongoing fic (octcyf) for starters lol. like at equivalent numbers of chapters, it has consistently had almost exactly twice as many hits and kudos as octcyf, it’s really funny kjldfshkg but also!! it’s a superhero au, which is something i never really anticipated writing, and it focuses on parent/child relationships a bunch, which i usually don’t do just because i usually prefer the sides to all be similar ages to each other when i write them. it’s also got just an absolutely delicious premise, which i think definitely contributes to the popularity thing, bc not to brag but i KNOW most of my other fics are equally well-written with compelling plots and character dynamics. they just get less attention. which is fine lol /gen

basically: the premise, the setting, and the focus on familial relationships with some romantic relationships heavily featured on the side are all things that really help to make this fic what it is.

7: Where did the title come from?

gonna be real, i no longer remember my reasoning for choosing this title specifically. XD but i know i wanted a song line from one of the sides’ official playlists, and i was going through them, and for some reason i settled on this line, which comes from “i got a name” by jim croce on patton’s playlist. i think maybe the overall song had kind of the vibe i initially envisioned for the fic? i genuinely don’t remember what about this lyric made me pick it specifically though. there probably are other titles that would fit better, but that would involve so much rebranding and might confuse people, so i don’t think it’s worth it.

5. The Lightning Strike by @booksxtvxsupernatural

Yet ANOTHER Irondad Big Bang 2020 story that hit me right in the feels. This is a canon-divergent post-Infinity War fic, and the way the author shows how events could’ve transpired is so realistic and beautiful. <3  One-shot, Tony and Peter centric, featuring Harley Keener and Nebula, with special guest appearances from IronFam, May Parker, and several other Avengers. 

6. Family Doesn’t End with Blood by @baloobird
