I'm think so hard about Stanley Pines I'm gonna fucking cry. Have you guys ever noticed how he talks to Ford even before he got him back. In Carpet Diem he scolds Ford and says his carpet is ugly. He asks the wax lookalike if he wants anything from the kitchen. He tells Ford to shut up when he's reading his journal. He tells the kids he talked to his reflection while fishing alone. To the creator: was there a bill defeat scene? Because i just had the oddest thought about death learning self-sacrifice.

ooc: Oooh okay, so not yet. I haven't really worked out the logistics of Weirdmageddon yet, actually. But that does seem really nice.

Based on this ask, what I'd end up doing is something like this -

The memory gun has been replaced with a weapon that erases - or at least reduces - divinity. The amount can be adjusted similar to how what the memory gun erases is changed. On mortals, it reduces negative effects of coming into contact with divinity (insanity, divine exposure burns, the like). On gods, it literally erases a portion of their beings and anything associated with that part of their being.

Stan has spent so long pretending to be Ford that he can even make his essence match Ford's, well enough that Bill can't tell them apart. To be fair, Ford did have his essence deconstructed, so it isn't the same as it used to be.

All the mortals are dying. Stan's at the height of his power because he's Death, of course everyone dying a slow painful death would help him. Ford is weak, barely weak enough to lift the memory gun. And then it hits Stan. He finally has a chance to atone. He pulls his brother close and infuses Ford with as much power as he can.

He's scared as Bill goes into his head. He knows Bill's not a proper god anymore, but that's not what's scaring him. He knows what death is, of course, he is death. But he's also a god, and no god's ever been completely wiped. He has no idea what this is going to do to him.

Of course, he's a twin god, so he can't die until Ford dies, but he doesn't know that, and he has to come to terms with just. Dying. Not existing anymore. Having his essence redistributed into the fabric of the universe. He wonders if it'll get back to the kids, and while the gun is pointed at his head, he imagines Mabel suddenly having to keep the balance of things on Earth, and Dipper being able to feel his essence floating around.

He survives, but he's never the same. He's always said he was the closest to a mortal, but for a while there, he was a mortal, staring death in the face.

And the funniest part? He spent so long impersonating Life, and then Ford did the same. He became Death, close enough to kills the real Death. Ironic.
