The danger is clear and present: COVID isn’t merely a respiratory illness; it’s a multi-dimensional threat impacting brain function, attacking almost all of the body’s organs, producing elevated risks of all kinds, and weakening our ability to fight off other diseases. Reinfections are thought to produce cumulative risks, and Long COVID is on the rise. Unfortunately, Long COVID is now being considered a long-term chronic illness — something many people will never fully recover from. Dr. Phillip Alvelda, a former program manager in DARPA’s Biological Technologies Office that pioneered the synthetic biology industry and the development of mRNA vaccine technology, is the founder of Medio Labs, a COVID diagnostic testing company. He has stepped forward as a strong critic of government COVID management, accusing health agencies of inadequacy and even deception. Alvelda is pushing for accountability and immediate action to tackle Long COVID and fend off future pandemics with stronger public health strategies. Contrary to public belief, he warns, COVID is not like the flu. New variants evolve much faster, making annual shots inadequate. He believes that if things continue as they are, with new COVID variants emerging and reinfections happening rapidly, the majority of Americans may eventually grapple with some form of Long COVID. Let’s repeat that: At the current rate of infection, most Americans may get Long COVID.
[...]
LP: A recent JAMA study found that US adults with Long COVID are more prone to depression and anxiety – and they’re struggling to afford treatment. Given the virus’s impact on the brain, I guess the link to mental health issues isn’t surprising. PA: There are all kinds of weird things going on that could be related to COVID’s cognitive effects. I’ll give you an example. We’ve noticed since the start of the pandemic that accidents are increasing. A report published by TRIP, a transportation research nonprofit, found that traffic fatalities in California increased by 22% from 2019 to 2022. They also found the likelihood of being killed in a traffic crash increased by 28% over that period. Other data, like studies from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, came to similar conclusions, reporting that traffic fatalities hit a 16-year high across the country in 2021. The TRIP report also looked at traffic fatalities on a national level and found that traffic fatalities increased by 19%. LP: What role might COVID play? PA: Research points to the various ways COVID attacks the brain. Some people who have been infected have suffered motor control damage, and that could be a factor in car crashes. News is beginning to emerge about other ways COVID impacts driving. For example, in Ireland, a driver’s COVID-related brain fog was linked to a crash that killed an elderly couple. Damage from COVID could be affecting people who are flying our planes, too. We’ve had pilots that had to quit because they couldn’t control the airplanes anymore. We know that medical events among U.S. military pilots were shown to have risen over 1,700% from 2019 to 2022, which the Pentagon attributes to the virus.
[...]
LP: You’ve criticized the track record of the CDC and the WHO – particularly their stubborn denial that COVID is airborne. PA: They knew the dangers of airborne transmission but refused to admit it for too long. They were warned repeatedly by scientists who studied aerosols. They instituted protections for themselves and for their kids against airborne transmission, but they didn’t tell the rest of us to do that.
[...]
LP: How would you grade Biden on how he’s handled the pandemic? PA: I’d give him an F. In some ways, he fails worse than Trump because more people have actually died from COVID on his watch than on Trump’s, though blame has to be shared with Republican governors and legislators who picked ideological fights opposing things like responsible masking, testing, vaccination, and ventilation improvements for partisan reasons. Biden’s administration has continued to promote the false idea that the vaccine is all that is needed, perpetuating the notion that the pandemic is over and you don’t need to do anything about it. Biden stopped the funding for surveillance and he stopped the funding for renewing vaccine advancement research. Trump allowed 400,000 people to die unnecessarily. The Biden administration policies have allowed more than 800,000 to 900,000 and counting.
[...]
LP: The situation with bird flu is certainly getting more concerning with the CDC confirming that a third person in the U.S. has tested positive after being exposed to infected cows. PA: Unfortunately, we’re repeating many of the same mistakes because we now know that the bird flu has made the jump to several species. The most important one now, of course, is the dairy cows. The dairy farmers have been refusing to let the government come in and inspect and test the cows. A team from Ohio State tested milk from a supermarket and found that 50% of the milk they tested was positive for bird flu viral particles.
[...]
PA: There’s a serious risk now in allowing the virus to freely evolve within the cow population. Each cow acts as a breeding ground for countless genetic mutations, potentially leading to strains capable of jumping to other species. If any of those countless genetic experiments within each cow prove successful in developing a strain transmissible to humans, we could face another pandemic – only this one could have a 58% death rate. Did you see the movie “Contagion?” It was remarkably accurate in its apocalyptic nature. And that virus only had a 20% death rate. If the bird flu makes the jump to human-to-human transition with even half of its current lethality, that would be disastrous.

yall are about to piss me off by not having any PASSING basic knowledge of the way the u.s. military manipulates its recruits into joining by typing up one of your uninformed, unresearched, unempathetic, individualistic, unbelievably annoying posts about how 100% of the people in the military ended up there because they just Love America So Damn Much! they're extremely mature and informed at time of recruitment, they can totally leave anytime they want, they totally had tons of other avenues in life they could've taken, there was no rush at all to get income as fast as possible, and everyone in the military also totally is part of the combat divisions and personally enjoys being IN the military very much, big believers of violence. everyone in the military is shooting guns all day, that's how that works. they LOVE BLOODSHED. also I love the "amewicans haha" twang to this type of shit because you're actually TOTALLY stealing our Thing, which is turning systemic issues into Individual Issues. Instead of talking about the powers that be, it's so Personal Choice up in here. It's, "well you shouldn't have done it then. I totally wouldn't because I know better." you don't wanna talk about the military industrial complex as a whole, and you don't want to talk about recruiters, you just want to pin the blame on Specific Individual People one-by-one, as if they're responsible for the system that they're being ground up in. someone was in the military? bad person, no matter what. it's easier to believe that, I guess, than to acknowledge that Normal People (with high school educations) are manipulated and incentivized into joining a system that is Bad. at like age 18. but yeah no that 18 year old should have just been smarter lol haha anyway here are some screenshots for no particular reason
side note this reply of someone going "umm just get loans and go into a high paying field it's easy XD" as a direct response to someone trying to explain how most americans joining the military are being funneled in that direction out of a need for money.
and another person who Decided that americans join the military just CLENCHING their teeth thinking of other people, and not thinking completely selfishly about their own selves and their own income/housing/healthcare.
#I had a longer post w more bullshit in it but ukw nobody's even gonna read THIS one. so.#dumb ass cunts seriously LMAO just the individualism of it all....#we're all just selectively forgetting that most people join the military straight out of high school / after failing to kickstart#their lives so they don't know shit yet and they are categorically not educated and don't have money#you NEED money and have been groomed by recruiters ALREADY into believing this is#The Best and Only to make a survivable amount of money without a college education-- bc they can't afford college btw#and they don't want to take on student debt either bc everyone already knows what a big fuckeroo that is#recruiters WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET YOU TO JOIN. they will KEEP CALLING YOU. they'll answer your questions#to make it sound like this is going to be a GREAT life decision. you can get all KINDS of jobs (true)#they love to say the thing about how only about 15% of the military will actually see combat in any way#they love to list all the jobs where you will literally just be working at an office or a pharmacy or in tech etc etc etc#the recruiters are offering housing healthcare steady pay and BONUSES if you sign on for longer.#so you let your guard down because you were so scared of the actual fighting. BECAUSE YOU'RE 18 IN THIS SCENARIO BTW.#you cunts will not meet anyone who hates the military as much as people who are NOW DONE working in the military#you don't know enough when they get you and then either you stay placated by the benefits or you scramble away as fast as possible#the number one military haters are people who know what goes on bc they already did it#source: I LIVE NEXT TO A MILITARY BASE LMAO PEOPLE HATE IT HERE!! they are NORMAL PEOPLE#I need you to get it into your head that the people committing atrocities in war were NORMAL when they joined#and that for every person in the military who's actively shedding blood there's 20 who do PAPERWORK#and they both are being put in the same category by you!! and they are BOTH being controlled by the same system!!#sergle.txt#I hate yall I really do.

there's both an ache and a tenderness to sanji's transition, i keep thinking about her, scared that the needle is going to hurt, afraid that it won't change anything, about zoro, whose voice still shakes sometimes having steady hands and doing her first shot, the leap of faith they both place in each other, tracking her changes daily, her feelings, and above everything fighting with the urge to run away and start again from the beginning

Whumpee gets a migraine
Whumpee took the last pill theu had on hand just a day before it's me I am Whumpee
They are already taking a different type of medication that would not go well with their migraine pills
They're held captive, with no access to medication at all
Whumper sees that something is wrong, they decide to leave Whumpee alone for that day
"I have the pills here, what would you do to get them?" "Anything! Anything you want! Please" Whumper watches in amusement as Whumpee grovels at their feet for mercy.
Whumper beating Whumpee up badly for being in pain they didn't cause, but here's the thing, Whumpee is relieved to be distracted by it.
Intimate whumper cradling Whumpee in their lap, gently rocking them back and forth, and petting their hair to comfort them as Whumpee wails. They don't even offer medication.

So it turns out there's a big craft guild organization thing only a few hours from where I live (I saw an ad for their craft fair), and I got like half my holiday shopping done on their website, and the box arrived today! The thing I was most excited to see in person is fragile, though, and it's really well wrapped in bubble wrap and I don't want it to break when I mail it to the friend it's for, so I am not unwrapping it, but oh man the temptation is there lol I also got myself a little metal bug made of a bottle cap and some wire. It lives on my little corkboard where I put postcards and thank you cards now
#the person behind the yarn#I have gotten a little sewing done today during my lunch break#but not much! not much#these unprecedented times sure are not good for my stress levels lol#but the indoor wasp is outdoor wasp again#and I managed to successfully request prescription refills from two of my doctors this week#(for different medications) so that was good! I'm allergic to an inactive ingredient used by most pharmacies in one med#so I have to get just that one medication from a different pharmacy chain and it throws doctors for a loop every time#other good things: I had the answers ready for a question my boss unexpectedly asked during a meeting today#when my dad last went shopping he got more kleenex and the boxes have flamingoes on them so that's cool!#uhhh my dad is volunteering more which means I get to help out more with some prep things for volunteering#which is great I miss volunteering but I can't do what I used to anymore#for the record I did make this post almost entirely to convince myself not to unwrap the super cool thing for my friend#the other small percentage is because I really like the metal bug#I want to make some metal bugs#I don't think I have any of whatever the artist used for filling the bottle cap but I have hot glue that'll probably work#...I think I'm going to make some metal bugs

Hey guys I’m on my lunch break and let me tell you karma will really get you in funny ways because my manager was so mean today that I went to the bathroom and cried for 5 mins and then literally 30 mins later my co worker who’s supposed to come in today after I leave called in sick so my manager got all sweet and tried to butter me up to stay so he’s not running the pharmacy on his own. And guess what? I said no because that’s what he gets 💪😼
#riv rambles#I actually would’ve considered staying if he wasn’t so awful today#bc I wouldn’t mind the extra money#I’ve got nothing going on today#but since he wanted to be a dick#now he can run the pharmacy on his own during the evening#the evening is the busiest time of day#so. ha.#that’s on YOU I fear sir

Ok ok ok big simp time here:
So like, there's this one scene in Transformers Prime where Shockwave and Ratchet work together to stabilize synthetic energon and for once, Shockwave gets along with an Autobot for a common goal.
This scene right here really changes Shockwave's character. He's still cold and ruthless, bound by logic. But he also has a "softness" to him. When Ratchet makes the conclusion about stabilizing cyber matter, Shockwave sounds... "happy". Finally, someone understands his research and there's a kinship in their scientific pursuits. For majority of his time in the series, he's scares everyone around him and everyone wants him dead. He rarely has a time when he can actually TALK with anyone. So for him to have an equal to talk with expands his positive emotions. Something he might not have felt in a LONG time.
In other words, I want to do research with Shockwave and Ratchet so bad. I wanna just ramble with them and listen to their amazing scientific pursuits. Also the stuff about creating new stable cyber matter and stable synthetic energon??? I would love to read a research paper if they weren't at war with each other ADGGJK
#simp corner#transformers prime#tfp#tfp shockwave#tfp Ratchet#I'm a pharmacy major going into biochemistry who loves listening to fictional scientists discover and make something new#this stims my brain pleasantly#also hearing shockwave happy when he's talking about science makes me happy too lol

So I have an autoimmune thing with my thyroid and I have to take pills to regulate it every day and every day that passes I want to burn the US healthcare system down more than the day before.
#ramblies#like the amount of headaches I have to go through with refills and dosage and pharmacy and insurance and I love my doctor but doctor errors#leading to even more phone calls and bureaucracy just makes me crazy#noticed I was getting low on pills and the pharmacy had filled my old dosage which was a half pill#and now insurance won't pay for more because they think I had a full refill when I didn't#so my doctor and the pharmacy are trying to work around this bullshit#and I'm like I sure love that my immune system will always be doing this to my thyroid but I only get limited refills forever

fuck it. plaguesona
#i thought of this a couple weeks ago on the bus a couple seats away from someone loudly coughing into the open air#i think something snapped and i decided to make a fuckin. medieval ass plague sona. horseman of pestilence fursona#this is also why i was asking abt animals with medical symbolism.. originally i wanted a two headed snake like the staff of caduceus#but it turns out thats actually hermes symbol. the real symbol for medicine is the rod of asclepius which looks pretty similar#the difference is that theres only one snake and its twined around a stick. ironically mercy from overwatch's weapons are named after#the caduceus despite the misconception LMAOOO#snakes were the most consistent medicine related animal i could find even across multiple cultures so it couldve really worked#if i could actually draw scalies.. one of my earliest sketches had a cobra with a syringe at the end of its tail like a rattlesnake#and it had markings similar to the syringe tube but i didnt have much else going on so i scrapped it#i was also recommended animals with less obvious ties to medicine like jellyfish and horseshoe crabs and learned something new ^_^#im not confident i could pull off a non-mammal furry but they were really good ideas i might put into smth else.. i also thought of#axolotls bc of their regenerative thing and growing back limbs but i think that would suit smth like a surgeon or amputation...#possums and bats were also an option bc theyre actually really resistant to most diseases like rabies but i feel like ppl wouldnt know that#if they saw it so it looks a little ironic at a glance. rabbits rats and mice were my second option bc of animal testing and lab rats#less obvious reference but the moon rabbit in chinese mythology is loosely connected to medicine bc it makes the elixir of life#otherwise lab mice in a pharmacy / modern medicine setting seemed fitting and jerboa tails remind me of cotton buds#and. ironically. jerboas are more closely related to elephants than rats and mice. can you believe it#my art#myart#my oc#sona#plaguesona#cottonbud#fur#furry art#character design#ref sheet#oc ref sheet

the thing about the terror is the same thing would happen if they were all just working at a grocery store literally anywhere ? like john franklin is the shitty general manager that is providing 0 oversight. hickey is someone who is a shit employee that is only held on to bc he's attached himself to some middle management. the stewards are cashiers bc the front end is where you know everyone, interact w bigger bosses more frequently and have a weird interpersonal dynamics that are akin to a chicken coop. the lieutenants are like supervisors for depts of the store. it hasn't been going well. they ran out of plastic bags like a month ago,,,
#i have visions#the terror#the terror amc#THE MASTERS R LIKE CART GUYS OH IT ALL MAKES SENSE#IT ALL MAKES SENSE#the stewards are either customer service or cashiers actually#like i could see jopson cashiering sometimes in dire straits but he is at customer service#re: basing this on my stint as a cashier at walmart#the thing about the terror is that ik these guys. like oh yeah ofc. they are all perfectly written coworkers#like you see i think hickey was probably in grocery (hodgson is his supervisor in the produce dept) he gets close with gibson#who is either at front end or like if it is a smaller store#like at flowers or something#and that gets him noticed by ppl#devoux works at like the meat section#irving is the health and beauty supervisor#the doctors r the pharmacy#i could go on#collins is exactly like my coworker who gave me rides home that would always rip her bong at lunch break#and before the aforementioned driving me home#anyways thank you for listening

Okay so once more, I ask of assistance. Not like… required but I’m not gonna lie, this could improve my life to such a significant degree that I’m asking anyways.
So. I have a lot of disabilities that make it hard to get around, but what I’m asking for is help with getting a bike… not really, I need a trike… I know that’s to embarrassing to say as an adult but with my instability I don’t have the ability to keep upright on a bike. I need a trike.
I live in a VERY bike friendly town. It’s small (tho I’m still limited to very small parts of the town because I can only walk for so long and in this heat that’s a very short amount of time) and we actually have dedicated bike lanes here. We even have started construction on multiple bike lanes with center dividers to keep cars out of them, that’s how much this town is friendly to bikes.
And frankly the price isn’t that high either. Like 280$ or so, and I can order one on Amazon (no I cannot buy a trike in this town) and they have them with the giant baskets in the back for groceries and I can get a personal shopping basket for the front of the cart and that would bet. Awesome.
So. Ultimately, I would like a better quality of life and being restricted to a very small part of town because of mobility is kind of sad… I will accept any help you guys wanna give and drop into my PayPal in the bio.
#I can’t go to grocery stores across town or even regularly go to my pharmacy#there are a lot of places I can’t go#because I know it’ll take too long to walk there and it might make me sick to try#I want to go shopping with dad#I want to go to the farmers market#I want to go to random town events without planning weeks in advance#only for me to know that if I try I’ll be super sick when I get there#I can’t leave my house because I can only go so far#driving isn’t an option with my nerve tremors either#I went to the store entirely for some meds an a few snacks and it gave me so much anxiety cause I hadn’t planned it#I’ve actually started scheduling my doctors appointments less because I won’t be able to go as often#I’ve waited till the last day to get my meds and still had to ask dad to get them for me cause it was too much for me#it’s tough and i desperately want a live where I can just leave my house#that’s why I’m asking I’m so tired of being stuck in one room all my life
