NOTE: I was so, so, so fortunate that @ / mink.malerei over on Threads selected my Rook, Naimeryn, to practice tattoo designs on! I’m *obsessed* with how Naimy looks in her style 🥹🥹 Additionally, I’m so obsessed with this beautiful blood lotus and black lotus tattoo design, I ✨needed✨ to make it canon. So this snippet is inspired by this beautiful painting by my Threads friend :3

“Harding?” Naimeryn asked uncertainly. Maybe she was with Taash?

“Rook! I’m in the corner!”

Oh, good.

“Hey,” Naimeryn greeted again, walking around the pool to where Harding crouched, tending what she thought might be elfroot.

“Hey, yourself,” Harding nodded, standing and turning to face her. “Did you need me for something?”

“Um, sort of,” Naimeryn said, rubbing her arm self consciously. “Do you have anything in here that’s native to Ferelden?”

“Oh, sure,” Harding nodded. “Actually, the Lighthouse must have known I was feeling a little homesick, because… almost all of these are native to home.”

Naimeryn looked around with a growing awe of the room. “Oh,” she said softly, simultaneously feeling overwhelmed. She’d thought this would be… easy.

“You never want to talk about Ferelden,” Harding said gently. “Where’s this coming from?”

“Oh, I —“ Naimeryn put her fists on her hips and surveyed Harding’s room, wishing something would just… jump out at her. She sighed. “It’s probably stupid.”

“You came all the way in here,” Harding pointed out, nudging her with her elbow. “If it’s that important to you, it can’t be that stupid.”

“It’s just… ok. Um. So, I’ve been spending a lot of time in Arlathan with Davrin and Bellara, lately.”

“Right. It’s good for you, I think? You always seem happier when you come back.”

“Do I?”

“I think that’s why Davrin always invites you on his little walks. Help you clear your head. Get some *real* air.”

“Oh,” Naimeryn smiled, just a little. She loved their outings with Assan. She had never once suspected Davrin had a motive other than bonding when he asked her to go. Now that she knew.. it was really sweet. She was glad he did.

Even if he was somewhat insufferable at times.

“Well, anyway. Yesterday they.. taught me to make a flower crown. Well, Bellara taught me. Davrin just showed off how good he is at it,” she rolled her eyes, and Harding laughed.

“That sounds like a nice time,” she said.

“It was. I mean I was *terrible* at it,” Naimeryn laughed, feeling her shoulders relax. “But the whole thing, it got me thinking. About how elves have always kind of been one with nature, best we know, and I’ve always been.. *not*. But, yesterday, being out in that clearing with them, just sitting in the grass… I felt more like an elf in a *good* way than… than I ever have.”

Naimeryn bit her lip. Why did saying it out loud make her so emotional?

Harding touched her arm, just a gentle tap to remind her she was there for her. “That… that’s really great, Naimy. I’m so happy for you.”

Naimeryn smiled. “Thanks. I… I know the Dalish usually get tattoos for big moments in their lives. Mine aren’t really that, but I feel like I want to… honor that tradition in my own way? So I want to get a new tattoo. Something… floral, maybe?”

She took a deep breath. “And I thought… I thought about getting something like Brona’s Bloom, but I have that pretty strongly associated with the Wardens, and I already have my griffon tattoo. And I thought about maybe some of the flowers we made crowns out of, but…”

Another deep breath. Why did all of this sound so stupid now that she was saying it out loud?

“I just thought, if this is about… *embracing* who I am, finding myself amidst… everything. Exploring my roots. I just thought…”

“You thought you should get a Ferelden flower… like you!” Harding said brightly.

*Like… me?* “Yeah… something like that, I guess.”

“I love that idea!” Harding beamed.

“Really?” Naimeryn asked. “You don’t think it’s dumb?”

“I really, really don’t,” Harding shook her head and patted Naimeryn’s elbow. “Come on! Let’s pick you a flower or two. I’ve got some ideas.”

Really says something about the dire state of offerings for men interested in sewing their own clothes that even searching things like "interesting men's clothing patterns" brings up articles with links to four or five whole websites that primarily offer admittedly nice but practically identical patterns for making button-ups and work pants and maybe a varsity/bomber jacket if you're lucky.

(Branching out into historical costuming for everyday wear is like your one shot at variation, and even then, the ratio of men's to women's patterns on every website is frustrating to say the least.)

Patternmakers as a trans man I am begging you. Give me a little more to work with here.

working in an art gallery and talking to a lot of full time artists has given me CRAZY imposter syndrome btw lmao

#i went to a local gallery today (not the one i work in)#and i was looking at this one artists work #and she used a lot of patterns but didnt go up to her #she came up to me as i was looking at her work like ' hi i see youre looking at my work which one do u like most' like okay #i had my headphones on at the time so it did scare me #anyway im really stuck thinking about her work #like shes got this lovely cluttered and messy and chaotic style with still life in one dimension #and she uses pattern and quilt-like grids and so much colour #and the chaos of her work is by far the best part #how nothing stays in their boxes andeverythings falling #its homely and DRAMATIC. which is a mix that doesnt always go together but is held together by the chaos of her work #AND THEN SHE PUTS COLLAGE QUOTES ON IT 'fly high in the sky like a butterfly'#AUUUGGGHHH it pisses me off so much. REALLY? THATS THE BEST QUOTE? no song lyrics no deepp meaning nothing to express the narrative? bitch #love her style but its KITCH shes KITCH her quotes are KITCH her subjects are KITCH <- lives in kitch central of the uk but WHATEVER #by the way im not exagerrating with fly high like a butterfly she really thought that was the quote to describe this chaotic scene like she #eight years old like what the hell. there ere others too the pissed me off #and then i talked to her and she was like. Patron of the Arts do not worry about us not having inventory yet...#But I am very excited to wake up tomorrow to pay for the booth fee and finally get our gears running for our inventory and displays.#This is what we have been doing our Pride animals for. It has always been for a dream like this:#Which is to say‚ selling them physically at an art market.#Oh. Oh my goodness. The Wheelchair sticker will be real.. The Pride Animals will be real everyone.#Not just a redbubble idea. An actual design that has coloured borders or borderless designs because WE want them to.#Sitting there with other artists and making friends. Accepting tips and making jokes with everyone.#Joy joy joy.#We plan on turning the whole thing into a small documentary for our personal self that we will upload to Youtube after PotA is over.#If anyone is interested in our future highs and lows...#The funny thing is.. I wonder how everyone will react to our art style changing every now and then in our booth. Haha!#“Why is your art style for this print different from this other print”#Well you see.. I have something called.. Dissociative Identity Disorder my friend.#Oh also! I just looked at the price on the back of a book I’ve had for a bit over a decade and it was four. fucking. dollars. Just four with no taxes. No extra 97cents or something before taxes. Just a round number that you would add taxes to.

I googled the price of a new edition and it was almost thirteen! Not an even thirteen, it was like 12.96 or something. Close enough that it’s basically thirteen but if you’re adding multiple items together to try and get the price on a purchase with more items it would add more confusion.

#emma posts #it was also a bit difficult to find a new copy on my phone #the edition I have was selling for wildly varying prices as a vintage book now #but that’s just a kids chapter book from a fairly large publisher #I know inflation happens and stuff but holy shit #buying things at the book fair makes so much more sense now #I bought that for 4$ plus taxes at the schoolastic book fair #it was maybe 12 years ago?#I could look at the publishing date for a better idea #the series had just switched publishers and the first few were being re-released at the time #before the new publisher and the author finished the series #four dollars though #I had to check the book because I know the current price of many paperbacks and I knew that series was still in print #but what lead to this was the price tag falling off an old brush I found from like. 2009 or 2010 #and the tag on this very large brush was seven dollars #which seemed cheap so I looked at current brush prices online but since the exact same brush isn’t being sold and brush prices vary more #it was a bit harder for me to get an idea of it. books though. books I know #I’ve even bought stuff from that publisher recently (they have a lot of novel and comic translations)#but it also struck me how the old price tag was an even four and an even seven dollars but all new ones had 97 or 98 cents #that ten dollars from helping out grandma wouldn’t have even gotten me one book with modern prices #but back then I could get TWO #even just seven could have gotten me a book and some fun school supplies back then #to have that experience now you would need to give your kid a 20$#I understand inflation okay? I am just taken off guard rn and having realizations #I’m going to add to this post again. when I say wildly varied vintage prices I mean WILDLY varied #one dude was trying to sell it on Amazon for 55$ but on eBay it was 4 to 5$#I bought the next three books in the series from that same print. signed. for 13$ together #I had older editions of those and wanted a full series of just the ones that were being re-released during my reading time

#I would paint a still life of a ghoul he’s de-kakuhoued and title it “Kaneki’s Work 5”#but I feel like he wouldn’t want a picture like that up #maybe he’d be embarrassed #what other stuff does he make #he needs to get into making bookmarks I want to see him surrounded by wavy scissors and watercolours and ribbons crafting away #oil painting of a bookmark Kaneki made. god bless him #I would say his poetry if he liked writing his own but I’m not really sure #also idk how you paint a picture of someone’s poem besides visualising it as a scene #that would be a cute idea ngl he can write something and I will draw it for him and it’s like a collaboration #I will personally go to the store and buy silk cardboard and the highest quality calligraphy paper #and select a ribbon in his favourite colour and then use the Chinese bookbinding technique to make him the nicest notebook for his writing #I’ll find some way to print a design onto the silk for the cover probably wood block but idk how silk printing works #I would find out for him #and he can have whatever design he would like for his notebook #we can have a photo shoot of him with his new book #I think Kaneki should meet an eel #kaneki time

ok but. my flamin’ hot take is that hw’s tendency to lock lore/character/relationship info behind a paywall kind of does more harm than good when gen 3 (particularly lxl, hiyori, and chizuchan) is involved

do you guys think i should make a faire (etsy for wholesale)……. wholesaling was on my goal list for the year but in a “email local businesses” way not a “put my stuff on a marketplace” way, especially since faire takes a 15% commission & has other fees…. i don’t have the kind of inventory to list a ton of stuff on there but i could start with a few things and see how it goes…. i can stop doing it if i decide it’s not worth it… it would be easier than sending a lot of emails or making a wholesale packet….

#if it goes well i can just start ordering more stock from the jump when i get new things #i don’t think i’m going to put any prints on there bc my runs are too small & i struggle doing reprints as is #sorry to people waiting on reprints i will get around to it i promise. but if i list my prints on faire then i feel like ill never have them #for my store. lol #it also might help me get rid of some stuff that doesn’t do so well for me like those stupid pencils..#i’ve been thinking about it the past couple days bc i just had a conversation w my boss about ordering stickers & she was shocked how little #i order. which makes sense for my business rn but she was telling me i should wholesale #so it’s been on my mind. idk maybe i’ll make an account and list a few things today & see if anybody bites #chatpost #i already know how the website works for the most part bc we use it at work #also should i order a new koozie do you think. it’s my usual summer merch although it’s late for that #people don’t buy them much anyway which is a shame bc i like them
