I refuse to believe the Valar wouldn't have fought Morgoth without the Silmaril.
(There's a TLDR at the end.)
.... Not really Valar friendly, but not anti Valar either. Valar critical, but still more on their side than not.
I have many, MANY issues with how the Valar handled a lot of things - Finwë's remarriage, stepping over Finwë's authority as king, basically letting Morgoth go after his false repentance was revealed, basically letting Morgoth go because he crossed the Helcaraxë, the Silmarils, refusing to go after Morgoth when Fëanáro made it clear he would never give them his Silmarils, etc. - but I don't think they're malicious enough to hold back their help by the time Eärendil arrived.
When the Darkening happened, the Valar were ... naive is probably the best word I can use to describe it. And petty - they are absolutely petty, especially Yavanna and Tulkas. "Oh, the Noldor don't want anything to do with us? Well, we WON'T help! How about that? And don't call back because we won't even answer the phone!" Then Manwë sat by the metaphorical phone wondering sadly why they wouldn't call. :(
.... I have honestly no idea why they didn't go fight Morgoth to begin with - they could've evacuated everyone out of the area like they did in the War of the Powers - but I digress. I still don't think it was malicious or because they wanted anyone to die. (Well, maybe Yavanna - I've never really gotten vibes from her that she likes ANY of Eru's children because they use her precious plants to survive, though maybe she'd like the Hobbits.) I think it was more of a childish thought on the Valar's part. "Fëanáro will see one day, and he'll be sorry!" That sort of thing.
And I think the Valar didn't really see anything wrong with what they did until the Dagor Bragollach. They made the Sun and Moon, and Men came to be, so clearly everything was going fine. See, Fëanáro, the Valar didn't need to do anything so drastic like return to Endórë.
Of course, then everything else happened......
.... I find it very difficult to believe that the Valar wouldn't know about this. Námo and Vairë would, 100%. Varda, too - she sees everything. And Manwë hears everything, and he's clearly been listening to the goings-on in Endórë before. Ulmo also actively participates in what goes on in Beleriand. These five at least would know how bad it's gotten in Middle Earth.
It was around this time Turgon sent sailors to beg help from the Valar, mind you. All drowned to Ossë, save Voronwë, and Ulmo did nothing. And it can easily be argued that the only reason Ulmo didn't let Voronwë die was so that someone could take his pet Man to his pet Elf's city. Which I guess is better than nothing, at least.
I justify this with the Valar being petty but not malicious. I genuinely think that Manwë thought the Noldor would pray if they needed help. (Yes, he said to never call him again, and the Noldor probably DID pray in the beginning - especially Turgon's people - but Manwë ... doesn't exactly logic very well.)
Anyway, Eärendil would eventually show up, and let's say he didn't have the Silmaril?
At this point in time, the Valar would have no excuse. They would know exactly how bad it is in Middle Earth. And the fact that Eärendil is pleading for mercy for everyone - including the SoF - should have an impact. If they still refused to go against Morgoth because he didn't have a Silmaril, the Valar would not be good and moral. Maybe not quite as bad as Morgoth, but they wouldn't be far off.
.....
I wonder if Eärendil is one of those scenarios where you are so focused on an outcome - either to make it happen or to avoid it entirely - that it comes to pass through your own actions.
The Valar - or at least Námo, because we know at least he can see the future - saw Eärendil as the only way to save everything from Morgoth, and became so fixated on him that they inevitably created that future. "We have to bend the rules Ilúvatar made about marriage, or Eärendil won't come." "We can't get involved, or Eärendil won't come." "We need the Sons of Fëanáro to do these horrible things, or Eärendil won't come."
(I absolutely DESPISE this logic, but it's better than the "all is well in Valinórë; yea, Valinórë prospereth - all is well" logic the Valar show. At least it would mean one of the Valar was taking steps to fix things rather than ignore the problem in the hope of it going away.)
-----
There's also the fact that Melian herself told Thingollo to give up the Silmaril. She can see the future, and she'd know the hearts of the Valar. If she had even an inkling that they would reject Eärendil without the Silmaril, I don't think she'd suggest returning it to the SoF.
-----
I guess you can say "the Valar needed to see the Noldor had gotten over their prideful ways", but I still don't see how EÄRENDIL giving them a SILMARIL would do that. It wasn't his to give. It wasn't ELWING'S to give. Or Dior's. Or Thingollo's. Or Lúthien's. Or Beren's.
-----
TLDR
I think the argument that Beren, Lúthien, Thingollo, Dior, and Elwing needed to keep the Silmaril away from the SoF to save the world is complete and utter bs, and I'm not afraid to say it. There's no way the Valar are so cruel and heartless as to let all of Endórë die to Morgoth because they didn't get a Silmaril - that goes against everything that Tolkien believed of them. They're flawed, but they aren't (supposed to be) selfish enough to watch the world burn to prove their point.
I think the compassion Eärendil showed had more of an effect in changing the hearts of the Valar than the Silmaril.

Eonwe with a Gen Z S/O
I have absolutely no idea why this exists. But here we go-
Self-depreciating dry sense of humor...not flying with this Ainu (pun very much intended). Do tell him that "I am literally dead" is not literal. Does not catch sarcasm. Do not test him, please. bby will cry.
Revels in all the cute nicknames for him. Call him Pookie and he's butter. But only in private kitten whiskers.
He is the epitome of - "Not here kitten whiskers, Daddy will discuss it later."
Will not hesitate to pull a "In our days," on you, despite being an immortal (RIP).
He is amazed by your ability to do nothing and exist in the realm of absolute nothingness. Not to forget all the naps, which he reluctantly joins to cuddle with you.
But he will not hesitate to pick you up and take you outside to touch grass if the situation calls for it.
Not the best with slang. He is quite envious of how fast Varda seems to catch on to it compared to him. Even Mairon (in fix-it).
Gets an aneurysm every time you bring up pro-Feanor arguments to spite him.
Somehow exceptionally good at taking blurry photos of you. Can be your personal drone if bribed accordingly.
As your supportive partner, Eonwe is here for moments of nostalgia when Chemical Romance resurfaces. He's confused but he's got the spirit.
Perfectly capable of keeping up with your fleeting attention span.
Got a new baking hobby? He's here with Kementari's trusted recipe.
Is a LinkedIn bro without LinkedIn. It's giving small town, everyone knows everyone with this Ainu.
He's constantly amused by your chicken scratch of handwriting.
Did laugh for an hour when he saw you trying to scroll a book.
An unlikely but wholesome pairing. He needs someone who is capable of telling him, "It's not that deep."
He is Barbie and you are Kenough of this pairing.
It's just vibes around here. And yes, he does allow you to dye his wings pink in the middle of an emotional breakdown.
Overall, bro is a green flag. 10/10 would recommend (I am sober).

Falling In Love Eonwe/You
Requested by @lamemaster
Heyyy ✋🏻 I miss your Elves/ Maiar reactions posts. So I wanted to request Elves/Maiar reaction to falling in love with their human s/o in all their different lifetimes🙏🏻. Feel free to plan it however you want, headcanon or one-shot 🥰🥰 I just love this concept so much it lives in my mind rent free :D
(Author note: Hey, I couldn't come up with a perfect scenario that could have added several characters with a human s/o, then I was reminded of Mairon Fallin in love, so I made another analysis like headcanon with Eonwe that goes his lifetimes of falling in love with his s/o. I hope you are okay with this one. )
Warnings: some angst, fluff, relationship stuff, mentions of the kin slaying, wars, death, Eonwe being a confused birdbrain, and hope you have the patience to read it all.
------------------------------------------------
- Eonwe gives me the impression that he would be a very devoted type, taking his role as Manwe’s herald. He would be loyal and treat you well if you somehow ended up in a relationship with him. However, he also gives me the impression that he would have no idea how relationships work, especially if you aren’t from the same race as him.
- If you were a maiar, you two would have probably been good friends from the beginning and close in general and the thought of being in a romantic relationship had not crossed your minds. You two would give the vibe of being obliviously in love.
- Eonwe would have been more young-minded and would probably not realize how much he likes being in your presence.
- If you serve under the same valar, you would spend a lot of time together doing your duties. You would be each other’s loyal companions and it would be uncommon for you two to be on your own. If you serve under a different valar, Eonwe would then visit you often in the domain of your valar.
- If you are a loyal type yourself, then you two would most likely survive through the thick and thick of the first years of Arda, and perhaps when Eonwe realizes his deep feelings for you and becomes more mature in the matter of courting, he would ask you to be his spouse, especially if you two have a strong foundation of loyalty and companionship.
- Manwe and Varda would have most likely pushed him to confess and eventually ask you to marry him.
- However, if you were tempted by Melkor and joined him, Eonwe would have been confused and heartbroken. He would have realized his feelings too late and be left hoping you would eventually return to the light. If you did, then he would be there to welcome you with open arms, if not, then he would only feel sadness in losing you.
- If you were an elf, Eonwe would have some idea of how to interact with you but be very confused about his sudden rise of feelings toward you. He would worry it is appropriate for him to seek a relationship with you, and try not to step over your boundaries.
- Eonwe would likely need a lot of reassurance, and perhaps a push from Manwe, to finally have the courage to ask to court you.
- You will most likely have to teach him the basics and the norms in courting an elf. He would be familiar with the Vanyar, but not on deeper levels. He had likely interacted with them on official business.
- Physical touch would most likely feel strange for him at first, but if you are patient and gentle, he would grow to like it.
- It wouldn’t matter much to Eonwe from which elven clan you come from. He would focus more on your personality and what kind of person you are.
- Eonwe values loyalty and a good heart in a person. He would not mind if you were slightly mischievous and caused harmless pranks, even finding some amusement in them. However, if you were a teaser type, he would be pretty shy and wouldn’t know how to interact if you kept teasing his poor heart.
- He does not appreciate evil and harm caused to others. If you were part of the Noldor and joined the kin slaying, then he would be upset and heartbroken. If not but decided to leave Aman with your people, he would understand your loyalty to your family, and patiently wait for the day when the valars would grant you mercy and allow you to return.
- If you were a Telerin and survived the kin slaying, he would have a close experience of what losing you felt like. He would be there for you as you tried to recover from the whole ordeal. However, if you didn’t survive the kin slaying and ended up in Mandos, he would feel awful sadness and try to plead with Eru himself that you would be able to recover in the soul.
- If you were a Vanyar. Eonwe would likely be familiar with most of your kin’s customs, having interacted with them way more than the other two clans. There is a high chance you two met at a party or by chance when he had some errands.
- If you were a Sindar, you two would have met during the war of wrath. He would not be most familiar with Sindarin customs, but if you manage to catch feelings for each other, he would ask you to join him in Valinor at the end of the war. If you accepted, he would be ecstatic, but if you still had business in Middle Earth, he would respect your decision and wait for the day when you would finally sail to the blessed realm.
- If you were a human, things would be slightly complicated. There could be two ways how you two could have met.
- One, you two met during the war of wrath. Eonwe would have heard his fair share of things about humans, so he would be intrigued about you once you met.
- If you didn’t have the most positive view of him and the valars due to their absence in the whole war, he would have difficulties befriending you. However, he would slowly understand you when he learned about all the losses and tragedies you endured. He would feel empathic and become protective of you in a way.
- He would respect you if you were trying to contribute to the war in your own way.
- He would feel conflicted when he realized his growing feelings toward you since you were not immortal like him or the elves, and neither you nor your kind were permitted to enter the blessed realm.
- Your time would be limited. He would do his best to ensure your safety during the war, hoping you will live through it and allow for a peaceful life. You two would probably not share anything about your feelings until the last minute when it was time to say goodbye. However, if you did not survive the war, he would silently mourn for you and perhaps feel regret for not telling you of his feelings.
- If Eonwe decided to stay in Middle Earth for some mission Manwe bestowed upon him, and incidentally met you. You most likely end up as his guide in Middle Earth.
- He would be wearing a disguise or a form that would help him blend in with the people, so you would have no idea he was a Maiar.
- Eonwe would learn more things about humans from you. He would still share the same conflicted feelings about his growing feelings toward you, but after some counseling and advice from old acquaintances, he may be more open-minded about it.
- He would eventually reveal the truth about himself to you, and you will either be accepting or there was a chance you already knew about it. It would be impossible not to notice things when you’ve traveled together for some time.
- If you two got together, you would be a happy pair, and spend as much time together as possible.
- Eonwe would think you were adorable if you got a big fascination toward his wings and allowed you to play with them even if they were slightly sensitive.
- Eonwe would most likely stay in Middle Earth to be with you at the end of your days. Or if you contributed to fighting evil and protecting Middle Earth, then maybe the Valars would allow you to stay in Valinor, or perhaps grant you an immortal life so you could stay with Eonwe.
- There could be a chance becoming immortal would mean that you would be bound to the world and have the same fate as elves, but if you willingly chose that, then Eonwe would be forever devoted to you.

Ranking the Valar by how much I hate them.
12: Lorien/Irmo - Idk why, but I kind of vibe with him. His only fault is being Mandos’s brother but he didn’t really do anything to piss me off himself. He seems dreamy & has a nice garden.
11: Orome - He’s cool but he’s still a Vala (who are objectively horrible) at the end of the day. Gets points for not going out of his way to make the Feanorians lives worse though & giving Celegorm a cool but disloyal dog.
12: Aule - Thank you for the Dwarves king! Unfortunately he’s married to Yavanna who I can not stand.
11: Nienna - Her heart seems to be in the right place. I like her.
10: Este - I don’t speak ill of healers on this blog! Even though she failed to heal Miriel I guess, she still made a bigger effort than everyone else.
9 & 8: Vana & Nessa - I just don’t think about them to be honest.
7: Tulkas - His purpose for existing is to beat up Melkor but he’s not even perfect at that. What’s wrong with you dude? Were you asleep when Melkor was making Feanor & Turin’s lives hell?
6: Yavanna - Her entitlement makes me seethe. I guess she did create the two trees but she basically gave away the light for free, she can’t ask for it back. Not the worst though, but I still don’t like her.
5: Vaire - Girl it’s nice of you to let Miriel live with you and all but why the heck were you like “but what about Indis's feelings” when Finwe was talking about how he wanted to give up getting reembodied for Miriel. This ain’t about Indis, why do her feelings matter?
4: Varda - Hallowing the Silmarills was such an a-hole move. The hallowing isn’t even fair, it’s just about who Varda wants to have the Silmarills. Does she think THINGOL is pure hearted? The Silmarill should have burnt him to a crisp.
3: Ulmo - Nothing short of a salty b!tch, thank goodness he’s single because I’d feel bad for anyone who had to put up with him. And why does he like bland ass TUOR so much while hating talented icons like the Feanorians?!
2: Manwe - He’s the 2nd fakest creature in existence after his big brother. Feanor doesn’t want your tears, where were you when your brother was murdering his dad, stealing his work, & previously harassing him for years non stop?
1: Mandos/Namo - F*ck this a-hole. At least Manwe has the excuse of being canonically stupid. He’s just an ass for the sake of it. And what’s his beef with Feanor? Free my king, all his faults are because you decided to shove Indis into his life & allowed Melkor to go free.
The actual #1: Melkor (obviously)

Valar and orcs
I recently discovered @zrii-the-orc who really motivated me to continue with my fanfic "Under the surface". And for that I have a question. As we established in this poll, we assume that some elvish traditiones survived in equaly twisted forms or dreams.
But:
I can't add more options and let's be honest: They would fear Varda and Ulmo.

Freaky Friday~
Kinktober is upon us soon, so let's get some good vibes going!
Share a snippet/sneak peek from a freaky WIP or a project you recently worked on and tag your fellow smut connoisseurs to see what everyone's been up to. Enjoy the spice and happy creating!
He really shouldn't be here. This sight, this song of pleasure, this moment of intimacy, it was hers, not his; none of this had ever been his. Yet Ulmo couldn't tear his gaze away from what he saw. He had spent many nights dreaming, indulging in sinful fantasies inside his lonely chambers in Ulmonan, attempting to quench his ancient desire for his king. Manwë, lying underneath him, giving himself to him, letting him hold on to that small waist of his, moaning in pleasure as he penetrated him – it wasn't the first time Ulmo wished to be in Varda's place, and it wouldn't be the last.

Maiar in 'The Lady of Ithilien'
(to be updated with new information as the story progresses. As such, things may change)
Eönwë
Herald and banner-bearer of Manwë, the High King of Arda. He's among the most powerful Maiar in Valinor and the mightiest in arms. Military leader and High Commander of the Host of the Valar, he was one of the key fighters during the War of Wrath, which marked the end of the First Age of the Sun.
Birth: he entered Arda shortly after it was created.
Married to Elenna of the House of Húrin.
Fancast: Daniel Sharman
Ilmarë
Eönwë's younger sister and handmaiden of Varda, Queen of the Valar and Manwë's wife. Along with her brother, she's one of the chiefs of the Maiar.
Birth: she entered Arda shortly after it was created.
Eventually married to Eldarion, Crown Prince of Gondor and Arnor.
Fancast: Matilda Lutz
Olórin
Also known as Gandalf (one of his many aliases), he has served several Valar throughout the various ages of Arda. He's mainly associated with Manwë and Varda, but he also served Nienna, Valië of sorrow and compassion and Irmo, Vala of dreams and visions. (Olórin is a Quenya name and its meaning is something along the lines of "dream of mind")
Birth: he entered Arda shortly after it was created.
Fancast: Sir Ian McKellen (as Gandalf during the War of the Ring. He sticks to this form for a little while longer before switching back to his usual one); Bradley James (as Olórin)
(they give the same vibe tbh)
Wilwarin
Maia serving Irmo and occasionally Nienna. She's had a major crush on Olórin ever since she met him. She's not the sharpest tool in the box (sorry girl, I still love you), but she's kind-hearted and keeps to herself because no one wants to befriend her due to her perceived stupidity. SHE NEEDS LOVE AND AFFECTION, which no one has ever given her because most Maiar are stuck up and arrogant. Extremely naïve and completely clueless at times, she's been nicknamed "Wilya" (meaning airhead) by her fellow Maiar. She's obsessed with Olórin because he's the only one who's ever actually interacted with her.
Birth: She entered Arda at the beginning of the Second Age of the Sun, following the War of Wrath.
Fancast: Tuğba Melis Türk
Isilmë
Maia of Vayanna. Considered among the most beautiful Maiarin women to ever enter Arda, she has been obsessed with Eönwë ever since she first saw him. They had a brief fling following the War of Wrath, which, needless to say, ended very quickly (and badly). She's firmly convinced he's still in love with her and will do anything to get him back. Her name is Quenya for "moonlight".
Birth: she entered Arda following the War of Wrath (around the same time as Wilwarin)
Fancast: Beste Kökdemir
Isilya
Maia of Yavanna. She's Isilmë's close friend (or so she believes). She fails to realize Isilmë doesn't really love her or value their friendship, but simply uses her for her own purposes. She blindly follows her "friend" and indistinctly agrees with everything the latter says or does, as she's been brainwashed into thinking she's perfect. She doesn't seem to have a mind of her own, modeling her own behavior after Isilmë, as she's afraid to lose the connection they share. She's petty and very annoying, but not inherently evil and might even redeem herself eventually. Who knows. Her name is Quenya for "the third day of the week" according to the Númenórean calendar.
(It might sound odd, but I picked the name purely because it sounds similar to Isilmë and because I like the sound of it, not necessarily because I had a specific idea. I'm terrible at naming characters, I know. Please don't be mean)
Birth: she entered Arda following the War of Wrath.
Fancast: Dilara Aksüyek
Elenna's household
Four Maiarin ladies enter her service after her marriage to the Herald.
Handalimë
Originally a Maia of Vána, she is thoughtful, level-headed, smart and highly practical. Elenna is entrusted to her and she quickly grows fond of her new lady, becoming one of her most trusted servants and her main confidante. She's usually calm and collected and makes it her mission to protect her lady from anyone who might wish her harm—namely her sister Isilmë and a few of the Noldorin elves— and constantly worries about her. Her lady's well-being is her utmost priority.
Birth: she entered Arda sometime before the end of the First Age.
Fancast: Gülcan Arslan
Naráel
A Maia of Aulë, she's spunky and crafty but also naive and shy. She loves making rings and necklaces and will be gifting many jewels to her new lady. She can often be found chatting with Gimli, as she's never seen a dwarf before and wants to know all about dwarf customs and traditions (for fairly obvious reasons, I'd say). Kind-hearted and wiser than she lets on, she loves sitting by fireplaces (and lighting them).
Birth: she entered Arda at the beginning of the Third Age.
Fancast: Sophie Turner
Aranwen
A Maia of Nessa, she loves dancing, nature and poetry. She's not a great conversationalist, but when she does speak, one had better stop and listen. She loves reading and will spend many hours discussing books and history with her lady. She enjoys needlework and she's quite a good painter as well. She respects Elena greatly and often reassures her. Even though they get on each other's nerves quite often, she's great friends with Naráel. She too will spend a bit of time with Gimli, but only to try and convince him that ripping down trees is inherently bad. Nevertheless, she grows fond of the lord of the Glittering Caves- she and Legolas will try and teach him how to dance. Whether they will succeed is still unknown.
Birth: she entered Arda at the beginning of the Third Age.
Fancast: Rose Williams
Elenya
Maia of Varda (the name is kind of a giveaway).
She's sweet, kind and very protective of Elenna. She often likes to remark how similar their names are and loves to recount stories that most have forgotten (star-related, of course). She was lady-in-waiting to Ilmarë before she volunteered to join Elenna's household.
Birth: she entered Arda during the Years of the Trees.

What are your Tyeloromë hcs? I would love to hear them
Shamefully, not anything original, just a bunch of things I love from the other people's beautiful fanfics
My headcanons:
Turko meeting Orome for the first time in the woods one day, after exile to formenos, and impressing him with his wild self. He becomes a part of the Hunt, being taught by Orome to be a great hunter, getting lots of gifts, the bows, arrows and Huan. He spends most of his time outside, and they are getting very close, all the tension happening between them! I find the god and his loyal follower very interesting dynamic. Orome was the first to see the elves, I think he knows them better than other Valars, has connections and sentiments, so when Turko comes into picture, I think Orome gets attached to him esealy.
About his marriage to Vana: I think it should be at least an open one. They are immortal and living for so long, I think all of them would like to experiment (aside from those who doesn't partake in earthly pleasures, Manwe and Varda give me a big asexual vibe smh). I think Turko would interest Orome on a whole different level from the others with his fierceness, and even meanness. Orome seems very stable, unchanging as it said, like an unrelenting but impartial force of nature so opposite to chaoticness of Turko, i think that he will be drawn to him helplessly. And Tyelko is in awe of that godly creature, so powerful, but willing to hear him out, spend time together, help him expand all this pent up energy that is always bubbling inside of him.
I think after the darkening, Turko will be reluctant to leave, being torn between his family and love. I see the potential for the fight between them here: maybe Orome saying for him to leave, since it's his destiny and Turko bursting out with "fuck destiny, don't you want to fight for us? If I can't stay and you can't leave let's run away somewhere else", basically part on the bad note.
In Beleriand, they have met only through rare dreams with the help of Irmo, but Turko isn't sure that it's real. He is ashamed to face Orome, selfloathing more and more with time. When Huan leaves him, he's sure that Orome finally couldn't tolerate such a disgrace as himself anymore.
So he goes to Mandos with the resolve to stay there forever, but Orome isn't willing to let him hide there for eternity. He brings him out to face his wrongs and to make him leave it in the past.
Basically lots of agnst at that stage, it will be very hard for Turko to believe that Orome still loves him, and that he still loves Orome too.
I also headcanon that they both had other lovers as well, but this bond to each other is different from the rest, as they are such polar opposites drawn together.
Additionally, Turko has a lot of kinks in which Orome is very willing to indulge him in. I think Orome is a walking kink himself.
Anyway I just think they are neat! Wanna read 100500+ more fanfics about them...

Would love it myself if the receipts were correct. However.
Ungoliant is not of the order of Melkor/the Valar, her origins are unknown/only speculated upon. Neither is she Shelob's "master" - she is a distant ancestor in a mythological sense, being the first of these great spiders in Arda. She is primordial evil, all-consuming darkness and symbolically as much of a personification of greed as a reflection of Jirt's arachnophobia, while Morgoth is a Lucifer-figure of rebellion, greed for power to rule over things, and eventually merely force for destruction and mockery of creation.
Shelob's exact nature is equally nebulous: fuckass huge evil spider with vaguely supernatural, decidedly rancid vibes is about as close as we'll get. It is only confirmed Sam dealt her the worst wound she ever got, not that she died of them.
Olórin (later Gandalf), Curumo (later Saruman), and Mairon (later Sauron) are all Maiar, not of a different tier of Ainur, though certainly of some degree of power differential. Balrogs are also Maiar, Gandalf, in fact, did 1v1 one of them and famously only got temporarily discorporated. You may remember this event as the core trigger behind him graduating from Grey to White after Saruman abandons his post. Balrogs are in fact of a power level where a sufficiently pissed off and enlightened Elf can 1v1 them and win.
Gandalf did not take the Ring for fear that he would not be able to resist his own desire to try and use it for good. Orthranc's Palantír (all of the Seeing Stones, really) were not made by Sauron - therfore this could not be the reason for Saruman's corruption. Gandalf in fact speculated that the creation of a Palantír would be beyond the skill of Sauron. It was the medium, not the means, of corruption.
Sauron does monitor the pass, the Orc patrol picking up Frodo wasn't there to gather cobwebs for the Halloween office informal. Not only is Minas Morgul on the lower end of the stairs leading to the pass - the Tower of Cirith Ungol guards the pass itself. Sauron certainly did not mind the additional security Shelob provided, occasionally sending her prisoners and expendable orcs for food - you would not leave your own guard dog at your back door because you couldn't take it in a fight. (Although Sauron referred to Shelob as his cat.)
Shelob's hide is not incredibly tough - she is "no dragon", that only her eye would be vulnerable. In fact, Sam cripples one of her legs, stabs her in the eye, and cuts her belly before - as you write - she impales herself on Sting trying to squash him.
In my copy of the Silm, the exact wording of the deal between Melkor and Ungoliant is not specified, only that she would help him fulfil his revenge and in turn, if she still covets, he would give her whatever she wants to sate her hunger, yay, with both hands. After drinking the juices from the Trees Melkor stabbed with his lance, the Wells of Varda, and swallowing all the treasures from Formenost, she grew so monstrously huge that Morgoth grew afraid of her. When he refused to give her the Silmarils (notably, none of these are in Sauron's helmet, although all three were for a time on Morgoth's crown) and she attacked him, and, having expanded much of his power in the attack on Valinor, she was able to wrap him in her webs, his powerful scream ever after echoing among the mountains of Lammoth. Luckily for him, his scream woke the Balrogs under the ruins of nearby Angband and they rushed to help their master - Ungoliant fled them. It is, therefore, not known whether Morgoth would have been defeated in his extremely weakened state by Ungoliant. There is no mention of a subsequent war between the two evil powers at this point in the Quenta Silmarillion, only that she fled to Ered Gorgoroth and her later fate is unknown, although it is speculated she ended up eating herself in her infinite hunger.
I am not angry with you, in a lore as shifting and multi-layered as Tolkien's, it is not always easy to keep the minutia straight. I invite anyone who can spot mistakes, inaccuracies, or incomplete simplifications I may have made is welcome to correct me, I have written this mostly on my phone on public transit, hence the citations being the fan wiki and only once the source book('s audiobok version). Some of the things I have corrected are more central to the lore than others, but the symbolic side is what made me type all this out.
What I am disappointed by is the simplistic interpretation of "just stand there, your enemy will impale itself on your sword". In my mind, the lesson, if such it may be called, we must take from this episode of Sam's arguably darkest hour, is that desperate love moves people to incredible feats. Sam is motivated by revenge, also, going after Shelob for hurting his Master Frodo before he discovers him unmoving and insensate, partly also moved by the reality of not being able to tend to any of their other worries before they stop being actively hunted by a huge, malevolent spider-beast. Sam's trial comes after Shelob is gone, when he thinks Frodo dead and the quest failed, when he takes the Ring and it starts talking to him. He is out of his mind with grief, rage, doubt, feels like he can not possibly succeed, the Ring is talking to him about turning aside and having the world for his garden (home, home, all he wants is to go home, back to how it was before he knew the world could be like this) - and yet, he keeps going.
Thinking of the larger context of LOTR and like, the fellowship swapping old war stories and shit and Sam just says “Yeah I killed a huge spider…Shelob, I think?”
And Gandalf just blinks and is like, “You what now?”
“Yeah, killed it. Had to save Frodo”
Gandalf elects not to tell Sam that he killed the spawn of a primordial demon.

Yeah I agree! It’s definitely cool to consider how Tolkien formed these plots that scientifically work out well before said science was available👀 and also I love the idea how he goes into Ea with her just like she stays with him in Valinor🥹 If I were Varda, I wouldn’t want to be away from him that long while forming stars, so it’s really cute he can come with her and help out, and they get to stay together😭😭 ahh that just gives me so many thoughts and feelings🥹❤️
Also the bit at the end😂😂 *squeezes him* he definitely gives off squishy vibes
Manwë is very squishy. Warm and soft too. You could probably squeeze some cute clouds out of him❤️
And yeah, if I was Varda I wouldn't leave him alone for too long either. Who knows what benign but potentially chaotic shenanigans the bird man gets up to...😌

Sauron has the best vibe of all the times yes! He has that vibe of being a (I dont know how to said it?¿?) BUT I LOVE HIM bc he gives that VIBE¿?¿?
Oh yes,for me the most hot vala may be Varda and Yavanna, and for the mens I will take Namo, but I dont really care about them (I mostly not hate but dislike them a lot so..) AND YES Eol for me is also hot,as well his son😌👍. And will agree whit the mens, they are just some...meh characters. I MEAN they are great, but not as cool as the elves so they stay behind
Its so funny to me that @dfwbwfbbwfbwf is making long post about "why I like and dislike this characters" and the I go "he /she is hot,I like him/her" jaksjsksk

Am I the only one who feels weird about the huge success gen 4 of kpop has?
I listen to many of these groups so it’s not that I’m a hater, it’s just that their achievements give me bad vibes, especially the album sales. Like in one hand I’m happy for them, but at the same time I feel like there is something going on, like it feels really inorganic and inflated.
It’s like all you see lately is a big 4 company debuting a new group and BAM over 100.000 album sales. I know idols from big companies always had privilegies, but it’s getting out of hand.
What is even going on with that new hybe girl group?!? The woman who works with them is probably a pedo or at least a weirdo who shoudn’t be close to kids, but they still managed to sell nearly half a million albums in 3 days, like really nobody actually cares about those kids.
I haven't looked into the sales numbers for 4th generation groups so I can't say much about it, but perhaps they have a marketing strategy that contributes to that. I really don't know the ins and outs. If I remember correctly, Blackpink had a similar trajectory. The group was succesful from the beginning because they already had laid the groundwork. Or if a group was created through a contest, like I-Land, then they're also not debuting as unknowns. They already have a sort of fanbase. It must be more to it, but I don't have the knowledge.
As to the woman who is in charge for the new Hybe gg, something is fishy there. I know she left SM to work for Hybe and after that, SM didn't debut any minors, but it seems this is not a problem for another company. I don't think it's fundamentally wrong for minors to debut, but the companies need to be careful with their concepts. It's wrong to have teenage girls sexualized for the male fantasy. People are sexual beings, even when they're 15, but the way they express and deal with that it's different than how an adult wants to promote and reveal that sexuality. Which is what that woman is doing. I think she has a preference/inclination for sexualized youth and that is not ok. I saw the photos she has on her walls (was it her home? Office?) and if this was a singular case, I wouldn't call it a problem. I'll give you an example. Agnes Varda, a French director, did a film called Kung-Fu Master! in which she casted her 14 year old son and Jane Birkin in which the story revolves around a 40 something woman falling in love and having and affair with a teenage boy. It wasn't exploitation, it wasn't fethishizing, it was quite sweet, as odd as it sounds. And it also wasn't a recurrent theme for her films. But then there is also the case of photographer David Hamilton who is known for his nude photographs of teenage girls. Aesthetic wise, I could say his photos were beautiful in terms of composition, light, colors, but then again, he had a thing for nude girls and later a few of them came out and accused him of rape. Not shocking at all.
So there you have it. It's important to look at the situation through a larger perspective. The woman who is in charge of the Hybe gg is not the innocent Varda type, but I doesn't seem to have a sort of Hamilton obsession. She's somewhere in the middle, which is still not a great position because it borderlines on being creepy.
