The way Veilguard approaches the concept of leadership is so interesting, actually. Because in previous installments, leadership is something that just happens to the main character. The Warden is volunteered for a leadership position by Alistair because he doesn't want it and also for the video game mechanic of "you are the main character." Hawke leads presumably out of sheer force of personality--how else could they hold all those disparate personalities together and actually get anything done? The Inquisitor is made leader due to the magical MacGuffin in their hand, but beyond naming what the Inquisition is for, little of their leadership technique is directly interrogated.
Rook essentially receives field command of the team after being Varric's second for half a year. The uncertainty of that is palpable. This is not someone who's meant to be in direct command, but finds themselves in that position anyway and the narrative is interrogating that. Thoroughly, even. Solas asking what their role here is, the way they have to mediate the group, multiple conversations about the actual mechanics of being a leader--it's very interesting, because previous protagonists unequivocally were leaders but this is the first time it really feels like I, as a player, have access to the levers that control what that leadership looks like. How someone tries to keep a crew functional and working together and make hard calls while trying to minimize the pain it will cause the rest of the team (and often failing at even that). It's a fledgling attempt at leadership in the worst possible moment and you can feel that. More than anything, it makes the Veilguard feel like an exploration of the work it actually takes to tie a crew like this together and make it possible for them to face world-ending odds, and I'm really enjoying the experience
#datv spoilers#rosie plays games kinda okay#that dragon sure does age#i feel like a bit of a mother hen at times but also. that IS what it would be like wouldn't it?#that IS what being a leader in these circumstances would entail and it's honestly fun to do that#especially given the level of uncertainty it feels like rook has#very consciously someone who knows they weren't supposed to be in charge but is trying SO HARD to be a good leader#i kind of love it

I think what bothers me about the live-action HTTYD movie as someone who was VIOLENTLY obsessed with it as a kid and considers it life changing is that a lot of the elements from the behind the scenes animations that happened to work just. Won’t hit as different.
Like wdym toothless’ eye being open as he’s tied down wasn’t intentional, and was actually a mistake in the animation?? What do you mean toothless’ hesitation before meeting Hiccup’s hand was actually an error? What do you mean artists researched air dynamics and how wings would react in wind just to make an accurate dragon model?? Stuff like that made the first movie so beautiful, and I have doubts the new one will hit the same. Nostalgia may be a factor in this of course, but because of how recent it will be little animated errors that made a movie unique and obviously human-made won’t be there and it makes me a little sad.
#there’s also the added fact that a lot of the expression we see won’t hit the same either because it’s not animated#there is so much emotion in the way they animated certain characters in the animated film that just. won’t be there#which is a given for any animated movie#but especially for this one which is so emotionally charged and beautifully made#idk. I’ll probably still watch it. I watched 9 realms why not this#httyd#how to train your dragon#toothless#hiccup#movies#movie

Shout out to all artists who had to work without any strong direction or instruction.
I wish you a merry “the client likes it anyways”
#non mdzs#The real mood of this comic is:#AKA: you are in charge of designing a character but have only been given personality as a reference.#This was technically for a game dev meeting and I am part of a team rather than a contractor hired on.#But hey the anxiety going into this was still crazy high. I was playing a risky gambit.#Part two of this comic is me putting all those clowns on a powerpoint and presenting them in front of a few people.#Pointing at them and saying “Okay which clown do you like best? How can we sex up this clown more?”#I think I may be giving the impression that I’m more into clowns than I actually am. It just fit with the character okay!#I had to consult the REAL down-for-clowners for tips. Photos exchanged in the dark alleys of a discord server.#A hooded figure shakes their head at the first photo. Slowly nods as I add puffy sleeves. Nods furiously as I drop the neckline.#This clown still needs to marinate a bit more before I’m ready to present them to the wider world.#So stay tuned! They have become a delight to draw and develop!#Game dev diary#As this is part of that new arc in my life.#Can you tell I've been practicing with digital art a lot more? Boy have I ever! I'm getting stronger! And faster!

i think a fundamental flaw behind the devil's minion dynamic arguments - not all, but a good chunk of them - is that people consistently forget that both of the characters involved are fucking crazy. especially where the tv adaptation is concerned
like, 1970s era, sure, fine, Armand is a dom bottom, we know this, whatever. post-dubai, however, they cannot be distilled into a straightforward d/s dynamic, there's no way. at that point, they're both immortal, Armand cannot read Daniel's mind anymore, Daniel wrecked his marriage and Armand made him, etc etc etc so my personal theory is, their situation begins with a few rocky swings but eventually ends up something like this:
Armand is bossy and demanding and yes that means he's in charge - except Daniel considers letting someone get away with being a little bitch a dominant thing to do - however he also will do pretty much anything Armand wants if Armand is insane/feral/cute enough about it (which is all the time) but he thinks that doing stuff for other people means that he's in charge (bc old man provider brain) - except Armand thinks that being allowed to be a bitch is reserved for the master of the house or at the very least the favourite concubine - but at the same time he does want to be spoiled and treated like a silly little puppy sooooo bad and he will 10000% take advantage of the opportunity - but also Daniel will call him boss sarcastically and Armand is too autistic to not take it at face value. that is not his fault but it will definitely impact a few things
#iwtv#devil's minion#armandaniel#armand de nothing#daniel molloy#armand x daniel#also to take this further: yes daniel's age is Gonna come into this But it's also going to be more complicated ok#on one hand armand would fixate on it. it could act as a safe rehash of a BUNCH of traumas and he will have a raging kink about it#but also. also. at any given moment it can and will veer into something that looks like michelangelo's genius of victory#they're like how cats and rabbits get along swimmingly#bc each species performs dominance in the same way the other performs submission#so they both think they're in charge and they are but also not

i think logan hillier did such an excellent job voicing istvan toth, not only within the emotional range but also in the intonation, to the point where i can read any fic featuring istvan dialogue and very clearly imagine his voice. i think his extensive background in theater really shines through in his KCD2 performance and i'm very grateful he's the one who ended up voicing istvan toth. it's impossible to imagine anyone else doing a better job at it
#i'm not even glazing here i'm genuinely a huge Voice Person and one thing i will always notice are unique voices#especially in an environment such as KCD#i feel like the majority of the VAs did an incredible job voicing their characters but very few come close to hillier's and mckay's#performance#honourable mention of jim high also#i want to name pitthan as well but even though he has an extreeeemely pleasant voice he didn't have any particularly emotionally charged#scenes which would have given him a chance to show off his range#istvan toth#logan hillier#kcd2#kingdom come deliverance 2

I'm really feeling like lucky day would have been better if think tank were targeting the doctor specifically, rather than unit. because the metaphor really doesn't come off well with unit - whereas the doctor is certainly flawed, but not in the same ways that make unit such a clumsy fit for the narrative they were trying to tell. making it about the doctor almost opens up more of an opportunity to criticise unit, because they could have made the point that he associates with this mysterious military association with no oversight.
it also keeps the throughline of conrad encountering the doctor more focused, and gives ruby's story more space to breathe. the idea of ruby fixating on her travels and ultimately understanding her trauma is really interesting, and pretty unique for new who. as is the way conrad shifts from someone she can trust and process her experiences with to someone who purposefully re-traumatises her. again, ruby deciding at the end to step away is great, but it would have been a cleaner storyline if she'd expressed that to her family rather than kate, given that we'd seen them being concerned about her focus on the doctor earlier. the set-up is engaging, but it just ends up getting undercut by the sharp swerve into the story being about unit rather than the doctor.
#fifteenth doctor#dw spoilers#i Also think having think tank go after the doctor opens up the metaphor a bit more#to encompass other ideas like xenophobia etc#given that the obvious way to play it is to have think tank spreading fear about the doctor as an alien#& the ending scene with conrad and the doctor felt quite. racially charged ig?#just the visual of like. a black man saying that society will move forward regardless of right-wing conspiracies#versus a white man saying he doesn't accept that reality#idk it just felt like that was already there under the surface#(& they had a swing in that sort of social commentary direction with the ableism that got thrown at shirley)#so making it about the doctor could have let them lean into it more

#jesus christ she’s got terminal foot in mouth disease huh#like girl all you had to do was acknowledge the harmful way your statements could be interpreted given the charged context#do i believe she personally is a racist? no. do i believe the rhetoric she’s used is unintentionally microaggressive? yes.#these two ideas can coexist without verging into problematic and potentially dangerous overgeneralizations#but also what the fuck do you MEAN she’s now making veiled terroristic threats#i fear she’s lost too much public sympathy from both sides of the aisle atp#idk man i can’t elucidate a definitive take on all this. kind of just watching it implode deer-in-headlights style#patti lupone

Hmmm
114.1:
and 114:
and also 103:
Still fully anticipating a Yor arc upcoming and the maths are mathing, is what I'm saying
(More seriously, it gave me vibes from 58.2 when Twilight and Bond save Daisy the pup from the fire, and Twilight gives his "You have to take care of yourself because there's someone waiting for you at home" speech - more specifically to the theory that 58.1-58.2 are the concluding chapters for the Cruise Arc*, and so is in direct dialogue with Yor's speech "Even if it means living a life that could end at any moment... even if it means leaving the Forger family," recommitment to self-sacrifice... Do you see the dots?)
*I alas don't have access to this theory: I read it summarised somewhere (reddit?) that it's a popular theory on the Japanese side of fandom and haven't been able to shake it since. But if anyone has links, pls drop 'em!
#spy x family#sxf manga spoilers#twiyor#spy x family meta#call it copium if you MUST but i will deny those charges#listen. LISTEN.#when it comes to twiyor#they hold one another gently 🤲#and because they do that for one another they extend that outwards#nightfall also ofc calls back to the last time twilight told her to chill a bit so it's also a pattern there ofc#and we were shown that the first time twilight did that it was in direct contrast to his previous mentality when he trained her#so it's about the tenor -- THE TENOR OF IT you see?#the tenor feels forger fam feels yor feels yor with twilight feels twiyor#hashtag mathematiques#meta lite#also given the prevalence of that meme it took way too long to find that gif 😑#here fandom take this!

had to draw this to understand the way i feel about him now that the manga's ended. 🥲 on that note: if you like hawks and his ending, maybe don't read my tags lol. it's not bashing (imo) but they're not v nice. 😅
bg + unobstructed pose under the cut!
his expression's a lil different 'cuz i only changed the merged layer, all the lighting effects already flattened onto it. 💀 alas.
#hawks#mha hawks#bnha hawks#takami keigo#keigo takami#bnha#bnha fanart#mha#mha fanart#spoilers#bnha spoilers#mha spoilers#it's not very positive lol i don't really like the way his character ended 🥲#i think his hero worship for endeavor blinded him from seeing or doing anything that could make a difference#i was so let down when he didm't have any sort of critique or moral dilemma after the touya reveal#and just immediately supported endeavor--it made me think he wss incapable of being critical of his idol.#only further underscored with the way he remembers his endeavor plushie while he defends the rabking system.#like. he thinks about his childhood toy of his hero while he defends the system that ultimately caused that ''hero'' to ruin his family.#so blinded by that pedestal that he unironically thinks about the BIGGEST example of why the ranking system does NOT work#WHILE he defends said system.#he was introduced as this morally complicated guy and instead of his childhood worship of a flawed guy making him more interesting#by having him really THINK about what it means that his hero inadvertently created a super villain#he was instead flattened into an endeavor fan boy. and even tho he was introduced as a guy w a complicated bg of#villainous father + harshly trained by the HPSC from a young age he still doesn't do very much with the system of which he's gained charge.#if he thought of the plushie as a memory of what it meant to have a symbol of hope in his hands it's like...#hawks... abolishing the ranking system wont stop merch and news articles and good PR from happening...#anyways yeah. he was one of my faves for a really long time but the way he ends... i dont like that guy.#that being said him becoming president of the HPSC isnt smth i hate even tho idve given him a vacay and his sought-after free time.#and i like that he brings a katana around now. i tried to make the projection make it look like his epilogue self has wings.#oh and i hated the tiny epilogue panel that made it look like endeavor replaced his entire set of kids. :) just. absolutely loathed it. :))

#why do I love bubbles so much? because their potential is almost endless!#will they store something for me? or reflect images from another reality? Or send a message to a loved one?#will I charge them with elemental energy? or fill them with some positivity and send them off to cheer someone up?#so many possibilities!!#I have multiple orbs to ponder at any given moment!#and yes my bubble wand is also a pencil. hehehehe.#kirbysona#Jojo T. Lots of debate on the timeline of events in the outsiders and ages fitting into that, but according to Hinton Pony was born July 22, and he'd been 14 for about a month (line in the movie) when the main events kick off. That would put the murder during late August, which is exactly when that schoolyear would be starting. They only hide out for 5 days, which would put them at early September when they end up back home.
The rumble, Johnny's death, Dally's death, and Pony's concussion fainting happens the night after they get home.
Ponyboy comes to after 3 days, then ends up on bedrest for another week, where he displays delusional thought.
The Juvenile Court hearing presumably occurs shortly after that bedrest, as Pony is still not considered fit to testify on the murder, placing it squarely into the month of September.
It's not super clear how long the depressive episode lasts for Pony, but it's long enough that he is failing his classes and Syme is offering to bring him up to a C. Recalling my high school days, overall grades for fall semester were usually evident by like mid October, so I would give Pony 2-3 weeks, maybe a full month before Syme reaches out.
However, we also know Pony was procrastinating on his assignment, it's part of Darry's nagging iirc, so that + the theme being a final project for the semester, it was probably due mid-late November/maaaayyybe early December.
This is where ages come in bc some of the ages we have from the TV Show Bible don't align with the story's events happening in August.
However.
We know that we are reading Ponyboy's theme. It ends cyclical to the beginning, and there's also evident effort on Ponyboy's end to avoid writing profanity into his recollection. He's 14, been to Hell and back, and also procrastinated on his essay. That is to say, I'd believe it if the argument was made that for some of the surviving characters, he just mentioned how old they were at the time of writing.
Side note, too, that the musical does corroborate the main events happening in late August imo, as it explicitly ties the Curtis Parents' deaths to Darry's birthday; Darry was born January 5, and they died 8 months before the story took place; 8 months from January is obviously September, technically. However. Looking at the calendar year for 1967 (the musical is bumped up 2 years), Darry's birthday fell on the first Thursday of January. If Pony's birthday is July 22nd and it's been a month (not confirmed in the musical to have been a month, but confirmed that he would be 15 next July), the Friday Night Drive-In encounter would have been August 25 (literally the first week of school), 7 months and 3 weeks after the crash; technically not 8 months, but extremely close. If we want to push it closer and move the events a week later, then the drive in would have happened September 1.
In conclusion, my proposed book timeline, cross-referenced with calendars and given school start dates:
Tuesday, January 5, 1965—Darry's Birthday, potentially also the death of Curtis Parents
Thursday, July 22, 1965—Ponyboy's 14th birthday
Thursday, August 26, 1965—Pony gets jumped
Friday, August 27, 1965—Pony goes to the drive-in, Johnny kills Bob (technically this happens in the wee hours of Saturday, but the jumping that led to it was a consequence of the drive in so I'm lumping them)
Saturday, August 28-Wednesday, September 1, 1965— (technically the actual time of Bob's murder) + Windrixville hideout + fire + Hospital reunion
Thursday, September 2, 1965—Rumble + Johnny's death + Dally's Death + Pony's concussion
Friday, September 3-Sunday, September 5, 1965—Pony in feverish delirium
Monday, September 6-Sunday, September 12, 1965—Pony on Bedrest
Monday, September 13, 1965—Juvenile Court
Tuesday, September 14, 1965-Depressive fugue begins
Monday, October 11 or 18, 1965—Mr Syme alerts Ponyboy of his failing grade+presents semester's final project in the form of a personal theme.
Mid November, 1965—theme is written
#the outsiders#ponyboy curtis#and while hinton isnt in charge of the adaptations we know she was involved with the movie and has interacted with the musical cast#so she probably approves of the timing benchmarks given therein
