the funniest thing about narrenturm is reynevan being the main character because he's just sooo. it's that he's just such a loser. you go read the book knowing how sapkowski approaches geralt - who is a bit of a loser but ultimately is such a complex, difficult, feared and loved character, a force to be reckoned with - and then you meet andrzej's favourite loser oc. reynevan.
he's a loser. he's too horny and too weird. he's clever but also really stupid. he tries to be idealistic but he's also a coward. he would have been dead a thousand times over if not for the fact that he has important and smart people help him - because they like him for how much of a loser he is or they sort of liked his great grandpa or his dad. or his brother.
everyone is done with him. everyone rolls their eyes at him. he does a little magic spell and everyone claps! woohoo reinmar! do a little dance next! then he says something stupid and his own people consider whether it wouldn't just be easier to kill him themselves before the inquisition gets to him

thank you @charlie-rulerofhell
I was reading your post about Janosh and how Uher meant Hungarian in Slovak/Czech and it got me thinking... although its extremely common, I find it funny how Istvan's surname basically means Slav in Hungarian
indeed! many such cases in europe. the surname tóth (sometimes tót or toth) is a 'hungarian ethnonymic surname' that was used to denote slavs or people of slavic origin. fun info, the original term (tótok) was used to represent people of the croatian region of slavonia and primarily croats, as one of the hungarian names for slavic parts (slavonia) of the kingdom of hungary was tóthország/tótország.
Tumblr media
which makes sense for istvan! because he was born in the banat region (as per KCD codex), which was partially in modern northern serbia. so, it's strongly hinted at that istvan might've been of serbian (slavic) origin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
banat region later, the term 'toth' and 'tótok' evolved into an umbrella term for slavs, and finally into a term that only refers to slovaks.

Katherine iceberg
Wow! Cool spy lady
Katherine and Zizka seem to have a close relationship, sleep together, and call each other by nicknames, and she shares his wife’s name, is there maybe something romantic to it?
Wow! Victim of the worst writing in all of KCD that ruins multiple character arcs and hides a number of game-wide motifs and themes under a thick layer of shit
Katherine is much more vocal about hating the Dry Devil than the contemptible Kubyenka, Adder, and Janosh, but then it’s Zizka who is more mad about Henry not burning the village and Devil who defends that choice.
Musa noticed Katherine specifically in the camp and they spend a lot of time together at Suchdol. However, Katherine is quicker to believe in his self-interest rather than his altruism. He has a crush on her, but has she come to trust him as an outsider ally in an increasingly hostile environment of Zizka and Devil holdouts vs everyone else (Pisek, Godwin, etc)?
Katherine crossbow theory—she has the crossbow in her art, she never uses it in game, maybe they redid her character somehow and gave it to Rosa?
Katherine expresses relief at Devil not dying (out of Zizka’s sight in Kuttenberg) if Henry tells her about the rescue. There are a number of dialogues where the Dry Devil harasses her and she snipes at him, but many of them surprisingly involve Devil making conversation or asking for her approval. His register is far less antagonistic than with eg Henry and Adder. Her relationship with Hynek has something more than just hatred. He appears to genuinely like her, she rags on him for reasons she doesn’t apply to others, and Zizka seems to be at the centre of their dispute more than just his methods.
Wow! Katherine dresses in blue, appears near water, is a mother with a dead child, and acts as the conscience of the mercenary group in opposition to a man called ‘The Devil.’ Mother Mary much?
Romance rewrite theory—the Henry romance is so abominable it defies the excuse of even being too misogynist to consider Katherine a person. Even sexist male gamers on Reddit hate it. The romance had a glitch when initially released to trigger even if the romance options were not selected. The artbook blurb for her specifically mentions Zizka in a romantic context, while Katherine continues to sleep with Zizka in the game after romance completion. There are also concept art pieces of a noble lady in a red dress. Was Katherine rewritten last-minute as a romantic lead?
Adder and Janosh dialogue—at least one bitch in this place respects her (besides Musa) (it’s Adder) (rip).
Janosh and Katherine kitchen dialogue + Mikesh and Kozliek ‘his Katherine’ shows that she has been a fixture of Zizka’s mercenary groups and that she has had to put up with unwanted advances from the mercenaries that are far more direct and offensive than Hynek’s (which are direct and offensive). Katherine and Zizka have worked this out by making her an extension of Zizka’s person (since the mercenaries don’t consider her a person except for—shockingly—Adder and Devil), which explains the sleeping together. She is his work wife in a much more chilling sense in that she has the rights of his wife (not be assaulted) in return for the obligations of his wife (do as ordered and be a party to the atrocities he may commit).
Zizka is about to share something of Katherine’s past with Pisek in their first meeting. He thinks it’s funny, Katherine doesn’t and cuts him off. What was it? I wonder if she was a former sex worker at some point, because the details of her work as a bathmaid undercover aren’t explicit, but it does explain why we the audience are led to believe that she likes Henry just randomly commenting on her boobs every two weeks and saying nothing else to her
Katherine and Godwin discuss the Minotaur story. She is obviously Ariadne and Zizka is her Theseus, which implies they’re involved but will end badly. Is she meant to have a Dionysus? Godwin, Henry, and Musa could all fit the bill as good-natured hedonists, but Godwin is the one there in that moment. Was there ever any intention for them to interact more?

first defenestration of prague anniversary
Tumblr media
— In the year of our Lord 1419, on the Sunday after St. James /July 30/, the rector Mikuláš, the burgomaster and the aldermen of the New Town of Prague were thrown from the windows of the town hall and killed by Žižka and his associates. Chronicle of Bartošek of Drahonice aka KCD2's 'Black Bartosch'
606 years ago, an angry crowd of hussites stormed the new town hall in prague and ejected their councillors in an act now known as defenestration!
on july 30th of 1419, an angry mob was formed around a particularly intense sermon delivered by jan želivský. the crowd was led through prague's streets, and the councillors from the new town hall allegedly started throwing rocks at them! apparently one of the rocks struck jan želivský (or his monstrance), and the enraged mob broke into the town hall. jan žižka, who was there to handle the 'practical' side of things, was also a part of the crowd. the rest is, quite literally, history. the councillors were ejected from the first and second floor and finished off by the mob waiting for them under the windows. this event marks the start of a chain reaction which set off the hussite wars and events including the death of king wenceslas IV and the beginning of the anti-hussite crusades. happy first defenestration of prague anniversary!
