I love shipping Jon in the TMA fandom because his potential love interests are this:

Guy who was only marginally worse at his Job than Jon was at his own (because he let an animal into the archives). Whenever he sees something he doesn't like he embodies the "I do not see it" meme. Man who is against crime until he personally dislikes the person the crime is being committed against, then it's fine. Bonded with Jon via shared trauma. Thinks Jon is incapable of making his own decisions. Spent most of his life lonely and bitter and without any 0 external or supernatural causes for this. Makes nice tea tho.

Guy who hates Jon because hating Elias would be even more pointless. Was stalked by Jon. Went from expressing fair negative criticisms and Jon not listening to expressing unfair negative criticisms and Jon listening too much. Lost the people he cared about to the thing that eventually destroyed him. More qualified for archival work than the rest of the team and simply because his publishing career gave him the mystical ability to spot errors. Only interaction with cops was sleeping with them for information so he took one look at Jon and Basira and was like "getting a lot of sleeping with cops for information vibes here". Heartbreaking last line before he went on his kayaking trip.

Girl who tried to murder him even after he thought he had tried to talk her out of it. Spent like a year looking at him and thinking "prey". Knife. Was a cop. In the camp of "Jon shouldn't have an opinion, actually, he should shit up." Often held up in comparison to Jon to make him look bad but she just honestly wants to do better. Has traumatic things on common with Jon. Werewolf. Presumably hot tho.

Not-a-guy that has stabbed Jon. Gives good advice in extremely cryptic ways like some kind of fortune teller. Has the skin texture of leather, apparently. A liar but honest about it. Has saved Jon and company on multiple occasions but did so in the creepiest and most villainous ways possible. Wanted to kill Jon. Had revenge fantasies that only involved Jon because he was Alive and There. Also wanted to be Known by Jon, a factor that may have contributed to its death. Died for wanting something clearly and without deceit.

Man who is way more dramatic and evil than he pretends to be. Makes puns that are only funny weeks later when you finally get them. Owns evil contracts. Hired the two people he knew would be most incompetent at archival work for archival work. Gave Jon a bed?? When Jon is stressed he concludes that the solution is More Work. Thinks being human is overrated. So terrified of being a victim that he victimized literally everybody else. "Grinning freak". Lying liar man. Same sense of humor and communication style as Jon tho.

Goth who comes across like a protagonist. Burns cursed books. Could have esaily been a bad person but chose to be good instead. Loathes saving people but begrudgingly does it anyway. Spent his entire life following the orders of old women who scare people. A book appraiser who would be shocked and upset by Jonathan "I only ever read a book once" Sims. Deserves a nap. Unfortunately, he died before Jon could meet him.

Jon is suffering.

i wanted to go on a rant in tags of a post about mag200 but then i decided im making my own post

i cannot stress enough how much i fucking love tma ending specifically and precisely because of how heartbreaking it is. when i first listened to the podcast i expected some big fucking showdown action guns blazin shit and i was honestly a bit underwhelmed. yes it was Very Sad and Traumatizing but it was over so fast I didnt feel completely satisfied. But I don't think the idea was ever for it to be a guns blazing action showdown at all

you know how a lot of people say that jon's voice while reading the statements helps them sleep? someone asked me what kinda horror podcast makes you want to sleep and it got me thinking. its a kind of horror thats not outright scary and in your face; on the outside it might even seem calm and soothing when stories are read, and the horror only comes out when you actually pay attention and start thinking about things, and as you go through the podcast you start thinking more and more and its getting scarier and scarier the more you realize, like that meme i started realizing and i couldnt stop realizing yknow?

what i absolutely love about the ending is that its exactly this kind of horror. it was never going to be out in your face, dramatic climax; it may seem underwhelming at first but the more you think about it the more heartbreaking it becomes and its Fascinating

im so in love with the fact that there are so many safehouse fics. im so in love with how we looked at those two episodes and collectively decided that we will write these two characters an eternity in love and safety. and i love every author who looked at the amount of safehouse fics already written and said "there needs to be more". i think this is really really beautiful and it just never gets old

AU: Elia Martell and Rhaella Targaryen, the sun and the dragon (1 /?)

At the end of the War of the Usurper, Elia with the help of Jaime Lannister managed to make peace with Robert Baratheon despite the fact that he killed her husband, Rhaegar Targaryen. Robert and Eddard Stark demanded the release of Lyanna Stark, Eddard's sister and Robert's fiancée, something that Elia accepted. In order to win the favor of the Starks, she agreed to return the remains of Rickard Stark and Brandon Stark, Ned's father and brother, in addition to paying funerals out of respect.

Elia returned Lyanna to her family, but what everyone did not expect was that the young woman had become pregnant with Rhaegar and this provoked the wrath of Robert Baratheon, but the princess of Dorne offered her that the little one live in Winterfell and that his mother could visiting him, something that Robert did not like, but in the end he agreed that his friend Ned raised him and that his beloved Lyanna visit his son, if he wanted to have her.

In the year 284 a. C., little Aegon was crowned Aegon VI Targaryen and Elia Martell was named as his regent, despite the gossip about the princess. That same year, Rhaella Targaryen widow of Aerys II returned from dragonstone with her children, Viserys and Daenerys, this was a great joy for Elia and her children, since mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were very appreciated and Rhaella loved her. grandchildren of her.

Elia Martell: Elia was regent for her son Aegon VI for 14 years, at that time his regency was described as peaceful and surrounded himself with advisers who were mostly Dornish, his main adviser was his brother Doran who gave him ideas about new reforms such as accepting that a young widow remarried and allowing an illegitimate child to have the right to inheritance in the event that his legitimate siblings do not have children.

In the year 298 a. C., his son Aegon was declared of legal age, Elia moved away from political life, focused on charitable acts helping various orphanages and instilling some Dornish customs in the court, being compared to the former queen, Mariah Martell. Elia lived for a time in the castle receiving the visit of her children, grandchildren and her brothers, leading a quiet and full life.

Elia passed away in 313 a. C. her, she at 56 years old she was the victim of her poor health and she was cremated, her ashes were buried next to those of Queen Rhaella Targaryen.

Rhaella Targaryen: Rhaella was sheltered in Dragonstone with her young son, Viserys, and her baby in her womb. She became a widowed queen when her brother-husband, Aerys II died at the hands of Jaime Lannister, but her eldest son, Rhaegar also passed away and this news broke the queen who was in her last months of gestation, but she tried to reassure herself by the good of your baby. In the year 284 a. C., Rhaella went into labor and gave birth to a girl, Daenerys, and was warned that another delivery of her could kill her. That same year, Rhaella's grandson was crowned Aegon VI Targaryen and the widow set off for King's Landing with her children to meet her beloved daughter-in-law, Elia, and her beloved grandchildren.

Rhaella remained by her family's side leading a quiet life and she spent her days taking care of her children, riding horses and having lively talks with a small social circle that she began to create. She mourned her husband for a whole year, but she was reunited with her old love, Bonifer Hasty and she obtained Elia's permission to marry hers, despite the fact that this marriage was morganatic. The queen and her new husband settled in rooms in the red fortress, and it is known that the marriage was solid and harmonious with Bonifer being a good stepfather for Viserys and Daenerys.

Rhaella Targaryen passed away in 305 a. C., at 60 years of age due to cardiac complications being a great pain for her entire family. She was cremated and her ashes rest alongside those of Rhaegar and Elia Martell.

Aegon VI Targaryen: He was king of the Seven Kingdoms and the sixth of his name, he was crowned with two years of age and his regent was his mother, Elia Martell. Aegon grew up alongside his sister, Rhaenys, and his paternal uncles, Viserys and Daenerys, receiving classes from Rhaella and Elia.

At first Aegon would marry his older sister, Rhaenys, but his grandmother convinced Elia that it was not a good idea, since Rhaella thought that so much incest practiced by several Targaryen generations could cause infertility or stillborn babies to the king, which is why he sought several maidens to be the next queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Many lords of different houses offered their daughters as wives, but it was not until 298 a. C., when Aegon came of age and organized a dance to meet the candidates to be his wife.

All the maidens of the Seven Kingdoms were introduced and Aegon danced with some of them, but he chose Shireen Baratheon, daughter of Stannis Baratheon and niece of Robert Baratheon. Although the Lord of Storm's End had two daughters, Aegon decided on Shireen, appearing to him to be a very beautiful and sweet girl, this was well liked by Elia and Rhaella in a way to appease the tensions between the Baratheon and the Targaryens.

The wedding took place on the first day of the year 299 a. C., Aegon was 17 years old and Shireen 10 years old, the marriage was not consummated until the year 304 a. C.. The marriage was happy and Shireen bore him five sons and two daughters, ensuring the descendants of the Targaryen-Baratheon.

Aegon's reign was peaceful highlighting the alliances between different houses with which the Targaryens were at odds. He married several of his sons and daughters to different members of royal houses, notably the Martells, the Lannisters, the Tyrells and the Arryns. Aegon reigned for 51 years, considered one of the kings that reigned the most in the Seven Kingdoms, being the second after Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Aegon was called "The Little King" and later "The Peacemaker", being remembered as a good king who brought peace to the kingdom after the reign of terror of his grandfather, Aerys II.

Aegon passed away in 335 a. C., at 53 years of age, victim of puerperal fever due to a hunting accident where he cut his hand and the wound was not well treated.

Rhaenys Targaryen: she was the sister of King Aegon VI and at first her fiancée, but her grandmother Rhaella convinced her mother, Elia Martell, not to do more incestuous practices because she had many difficulties to have healthy children. So Rhaenys became a highly sought-after girl because if her brother died without issue she could be the new queen along with her husband.

The princess had many suitors, but her mother decided that she would marry the heir of Winterfell, Robb Stark as a way to appease the tensions between the Starks, Baratheon and the Targaryens after Robert's Rebellion. This marriage was well seen by Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully who accepted the engagement and in receiving the princess. In 297 a. C., Rhaenys said goodbye to her family and left for the North, where her fiancée, her political family and the Stark entourage were waiting for her. That same year the case couple, the princess was 17 years old and her fiancé 14 years old, but they liked each other at first sight.

Life in the north was somewhat tumultuous for Rhaenys, as she loved to ride, dance and practice with the sword, being frowned upon by her mother-in-law, Catelyn Stark, and her sister-in-law Sansa, but she soon gained the sympathy of her father-in-law, Ned. and his brothers-in-law Arya, Bran and Rickon Stark. It is unknown how her relationship was with her half-brother Jon Stark hers when they met, but it is believed that they both had a good relationship and could even be friends.

In the year 299 a. C., Rhaenys became pregnant for the first time and this was a great joy for everyone, but the princess was pressured by her mother-in-law who criticized her for anything she did in her condition and especially when she attended her brother's wedding, Aegon with Shireen Baratheon. This burdened Rhaenys so much that she gave birth to her first child, Eddard prematurely. The next five years Rhaenys had three more children, Elia, Rhaena and Alaric Stark with them she traveled to King's Landing to visit her brother and her mother.

Rhaenys was influential in the northern court doing various tournaments and dances, in addition to organizing banquets for the vassals and their children in a way to thank her for her great effort. The princess was called "The Winter Sun" and was loved by all, but she was also the envy of some women, especially Sansa Stark and her friend, Jeyne Poole, who criticized her in her social circle for her Dornish appearance and her style of typical life of a gentleman.

In the year 304 a. C., Eddard Stark passed away due to heart problems and Rhaenys along with Robb became lords of Winterfell, being acclaimed by all. Rhaenys focused on charity, court, hunting, and her children whom she adored. As Mistress of Winterfell she was good and much loved by all, Domeric Bolton admitted that she was just as beautiful as Catelyn Tully, but Rhaenys shone like the sun.

The years passed and it is known that the couple was very happy, Robb was always faithful to his wife and he was never known for any conquest despite being highly sought after by some ladies. In the year 335 a. C., King Aegon VI died and the death of her brother was a great pain for Rhaenys since she was very close to him, losing the two people she loved the most, her mother and her brother. A year later Rhaenys became seriously ill after falling into a pool of frozen water in the cold and was in bed for several months until the first day of 337 a. C., Princess Rhaenys passed away at 57 years of age and was buried in the crypts of Invernalia where she later would be accompanied by her husband, Robb Stark.

En el año 284 d. C., el pequeño Aegon fue coronado como Aegon VI Targaryen y Elia Martell fue nombrada como su regente, pesé a las habladurías sobre la princesa. Ese mismo año, Rhaella Targaryen viuda de Aerys II volvió desde rocadragón junto a sus hijos, Viserys y Daenerys, esto fue una gran alegría para Elia y sus hijos, ya que suegra y nuera se apreciaban mucho y Rhaella amaba a sus nietos.

Elia Martell: Elia fue regente de su hijo Aegon VI por 14 años, en esos tiempos su regencia fue descrita como pacifica y se rodeo de consejeros que en su mayoría eran dornienses, su consejero principal fue su hermano Doran quien le dio ideas sobre nuevas reformas como aceptar que una viuda joven volviera a contraer matrimonio y permitir que un hijo ilegitimo tenga derecho a herencia en caso de que sus hermanos legítimos no tengan descendencia.

En el año 298 d. C., su hijo Aegon fue declarado mayor de edad, Elia se alejo de la vida política, se centro en los actos benéficos ayudando a varios orfanatos e inculcando algunas costumbres dornienses a la corte, siendo comparada con la antigua reina, Mariah Martell. En el 309 d. C., mando a reconstruir el castillo de Refugio Estival y coloco en una habitación los retratos de las victimas del incendio como señal de respeto. Elia vivió por un tiempo en el castillo recibiendo la visita de sus hijos, nietos y sus hermanos, llevando una vida tranquila y plena.

Elia falleció en el año 313 d. C., a los 56 años victima de su pésima salud y fue incinerada, sus cenizas fueron enterradas junto a las de la reina Rhaella Targaryen.

Rhaella Targaryen: Rhaella estaba resguardada en Rocadragón junto a su hijo pequeño, Viserys y el bebé en su vientre. Ella se convirtió en reina viuda al morir su hermano-esposo, Aerys II a manos de Jaime Lannister, pero su hijo mayor, Rhaegar también falleció y esta noticia rompió a la reina que estaba en sus últimos meses de gestación, pero trato de tranquilizarse por el bien de su bebé. En el año 284 d. C., Rhaella se puso de parto y dio a luz a una niña, Daenerys y se le advirtió que otro parto mas podría matarla. Ese mismo año, el nieto de Rhaella fue coronado como Aegon VI Targaryen y la viuda partió hacia Desembarco del Rey junto a sus hijos reencontrándose con su querida nuera, Elia y sus adorados nietos.

Rhaella permaneció al lado de su familia llevando una vida tranquila y paso sus días cuidando a sus hijos, cabalgando y teniendo charlas animadas con un pequeño circulo social que empezó a crear. Estuvo un año entero de luto por su marido, pero volvió a reencontrarse con su antiguo amor, Bonifer Hasty y obtuvo el permiso de Elia para casarse con el, pesé a que este matrimonio era morganático. La reina y su nuevo marido se instalaron en unas habitaciones de la fortaleza roja, y se sabe que el matrimonio fue solido y armonioso siendo Bonifer un buen padrastro para Viserys y Daenerys.

Rhaella Targaryen falleció en el año 305 d. C., a los 60 años de edad por complicaciones cardiacas siendo un gran dolor para toda su familia. Fue incinerada y sus cenizas descansan junto a las de Rhaegar y Elia Martell.

Aegon VI Targaryen: Fue rey de los Siete Reinos y el sexto de su nombre, fue coronado con dos años de edad y su regente fue su madre, Elia Martell. Aegon creció junto a su hermana, Rhaenys y sus tíos paternos, Viserys y Daenerys, recibiendo clases por parte de Rhaella y Elia.

En un principio Aegon se casaría con su hermana mayor, Rhaenys, pero su abuela convenció a Elia que no era buena idea, ya que Rhaella pensaba que tanto incesto practicado por varias generaciones Targaryen podrían causarles infertilidad o bebés mortinatos al rey por lo que se busco varias doncellas para ser la siguiente reina de los Siete Reinos. Muchos señores de distintas casas ofrecieron a sus hijas como esposas, pero no fue hasta el 298 d. C., cuando Aegon cumplió la mayoría de edad y organizo un baile para conocer a las candidatas a ser su esposa. 

Todas las doncellas de los Siete Reinos fueron presentadas y Aegon bailo con alguna de ellas, pero se decanto por Shireen Baratheon, hija de Stannis Baratheon y sobrina de Robert Baratheon. Pesé a que el Señor de Bastión de Tormenta tenia dos hijas, Aegon se decidió por Shireen pareciéndole una niña muy hermosa y dulce, esto fue bien visto por Elia y Rhaella en una forma de apaciguar las tenciones entre los Baratheon y los Targaryen.

La boda se celebró el primer día del año 299 d. C., Aegon tenia 17 años y Shireen 10 años, el matrimonio no fue consumado hasta el año 304 d. C.. El matrimonio fue feliz y Shireen le dio cinco hijos y dos hijas, asegurando la descendencia de los Targaryen-Baratheon.

El reinado de Aegon fue pacifico destacando las alianzas entre diferentes casas con las que los Targaryen estuvo enemistados. Caso a varios de sus hijos e hijas con diferentes miembros de casas reales destacándose los Martell, los Lannister, los Tyrell y los Arryn. Aegon reino por 51 años, considerado como uno de los reyes que mas reino en los Siete Reinos, siendo el segundo después de Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Aegon fue llamado “El pequeño rey” y mas adelante “El pacificador”, siendo recordado como un buen rey que trajo paz al reino después del reinado de terror de su abuelo, Aerys II.

Aegon falleció el 335 d. C., a los 53 años de edad victima de fiebres puerperales debido a un accidente de caza donde se corto una mano y no fue bien tratada la herida.

Rhaenys Targaryen: Fue la hermana del rey Aegon VI y en un principio su prometida, pero su abuela Rhaella convenció a su madre, Elia Martell de no hacer mas practicas incestuosas debido a que ella tuvo muchas dificultades para tener hijos sanos. Así que Rhaenys se convirtió en una muchacha muy pretendida ya que si su hermano fallecía sin descendencia ella podría ser la nueva reina junto a su marido.

La princesa tuvo muchos pretendientes, pero su madre decidió que se casaría con el heredero de Invernalia, Robb Stark como una forma de apaciguar las tenciones entre los Stark, Baratheon y los Targaryen después de la Rebelión de Robert. Este matrimonio fue bien visto por Eddard Stark y Catelyn Tully quien acepto el compromiso y en recibir a la princesa. En el 297 d. C., Rhaenys se despidió de su familia y partió hacia el Norte, ahí la esperaban su prometido, su familia política y la comitiva de los Stark. Ese mismo año la pareja de caso, la princesa tenia 17 años y su prometido 14 años, pero ellos se gustaron a primera vista.

La vida en el norte fue algo tumultuosa para Rhaenys, debido a que ella adoraba cabalgar, bailar y practicar con la espada siendo esto mal visto por su suegra, Catelyn Stark y su cuñada Sansa, pero pronto se gano la simpatía de su suegro, Ned y de sus cuñados Arya, Bran y Rickon Stark. Se desconoce como fue su relación con su medio-hermano Jon Stark cuando se conocieron, pero se cree que ambos tuvieron un buen trato y pudieron hasta ser amigos.

En el año 299 d. C., Rhaenys se quedo embarazada por primera vez y esto fue una gran alegría para todos, pero la princesa se vio presionada por su suegra quien la criticaba por cualquier cosa que hacia en su estado y sobre todo cuando asistió al casamiento de su hermano, Aegon con Shireen Baratheon. Esto agobio mucho a Rhaenys que dio a luz a su primer hijo, Eddard de manera prematura. Los siguientes cinco años Rhaenys tuvo tres hijos mas, Elia, Rhaena y Alaric Stark con ellos viajo a Desembarco del rey para visitar a su hermano y su madre.

Rhaenys fue influyente en la corte norteña haciendo varios torneos y bailes, además de organizar banquetes para los vasallos y los hijos de estos en forma de agradecer su gran esfuerzo. La princesa fue llamada “El sol del Invierno” y fue querida por todos, pero también fue la envidia de algunas mujeres en especial de Sansa Stark y su amiga, Jeyne Poole quienes la criticaban en su circulo social por su aspecto dorniense y su estilo de vida típico de un caballero.

En el año 304 d. C., falleció Eddard Stark por problemas de corazón y Rhaenys junto a Robb se convirtieron en señores de Invernalia, siendo aclamados por todos. Rhaenys se centro en los actos de caridad, en la corte, la caza y en sus hijos a los cuales adoraba. Como Señora de Invernalia fue buena y muy querida por todos, Domeric Bolton admitió que ella era igual de hermosa que Catelyn Tully, pero Rhaenys brillaba como el sol.

Los años pasaron y se sabe que la pareja fue muy feliz, Robb siempre fue fiel a su esposa y nunca se le conoció alguna conquista pese a ser muy pretendido por algunas damas. En el año 335 d. C., falleció el rey Aegon VI y la muerte de su hermano fue un gran dolor para Rhaenys ya que estaba muy unida a el perdiendo a las dos personas que mas quiso, su madre y a su hermano. Un año después Rhaenys enfermo gravemente tras caerse a un estanque de agua helada en pleno frío y estuvo en cama por varios meses hasta que el primer día del año 337 d. C., la princesa Rhaenys falleció a los 57 años de edad y fue enterrada en las criptas de Invernalia donde mas adelante seria acompañada por su marido, Robb Stark.

"More Than One Way to Get to Hell" -- 1986

"Tansy, come on, now we don't have all damn day to get this finished." Diane calls from the other side of the door while I'm grasping Tansy's shaking hand while she adds finishing sprays of hairspray to her curls. 

"Tansy," I start. 

"C-Can you hand me my purse?" She asks me softly and I nod, handing the little black purse to her. 

She pulls an unlabeled bottle out, opening the lid and pouring two pills into her palm. 

"Tansy--"

"--I overdid it on coke earlier, Viv, if I don't calm my shit I'm gonna embarrass myself on national television." 

"Tansy!" Her mom barks. 

She takes the pills and swallows them down with her juice, standing up and walking to her dressing room door. 

"Thank fuck, come on." Her mom tugs at her arm to take her to the sound tech and he hooks her up to her mic. 

"Mama, I'm nervous." She takes harbored breaths. 

"No need to be nervous, Tansy. You're just interacting with a man in front of a camera. Let's not pretend you don't do the same thing every night." She mumbles to her and I glare at her mother, horrified. 

"I feel like I'm gonna puke." Tansy says next. 

"No, no, look at me." Diane looks her in the eyes. "You are not going to screw this up. You are going to go out there and get more exposure to get more people talking about you, to get more offers, to get more money. We do what has to be done to get what we want, and what we have to do isn't always what we want to do, but--" 

"--But it has to be done." Tansy finishes for her, defeated. 

"Exactly." She says to Tansy, fixing her smudged lipstick. "You already embarrass me on a daily basis, Tansalyn, and you will not embarrass me today. Not over this." She demands.

"Our first guest is a well-known model to men, and some women, here in America. In a span of just four years she has appeared in 56 issues of Playboy and counting, declared the magazine's most consistent model, was very recently announced as 'Playmate of the Year: Miss 1985,' and was the muse for the 1983 Def Leppard hit, 'Photograph.' With no sign of slowing down anytime soon--not that any of us want her to--please, give a very warm welcome to the very beautiful, Tansy Lyn." 

Tansy takes a heavy breath inward, and I give her a smile. 

"You got this, go." I assure her and she nods, holding back tears, seemingly programming her mind into autopilot, a scarily convincing, beaming smile on her face as she steps out, waving at the audience. 

I watch her on the monitor, and my heart breaks. 

She deserves an Oscar. 

Diane watches, too, evaluating her in her mind. 

"How are you?" David asks Tansy, kissing her cheek before the two sit down. 

"I'm good." Tansy replies, crossing one leg over the other. "Hi, everyone." She waves again to the crowd and they whistle and cheer. 

"Now, when they told me you'd be on, um, I did some fact checking, as one does for an interview," he starts. 

"Okay." She replies. 

"And I want to get the record straight on your name, because I've heard Tansy Lyn, and I've heard Tansalyn, which the second option is just a mouthful so…"

"Well, my nickname is Tansy and originally my name was supposed to be Tansy and my middle name was supposed to be Lyn."

"Don't you dare." Her mother sneers quietly to the monitor. 

"But my dad had been drinking a little bit when my mom's water broke and so when it came to naming me, they had decided on Tansy Lyn Reilen, but my mom was in recovery, resting, and my dad couldn't write very well because he was drunk and so he asked a nurse for help and she asked him what my name was going to be so she could write it in herself, and he said 'Tansy Lyn,' little did he realizing he was slurring. So my legal name is Tansalyn." 

"Oh, my God." Diane squeezes her eyes shut. 

"And you reworked it to Tansy Lyn." 

"Yes." 

He tries not to laugh, but the audience doesn't hold back, not that she minds at all. 

"Wow, well, Tansalyn, I know you're busy and so the fact you were able to be here really means a lot, so thank you, again, for being here. Although I'm not so sure it was too far out of the way for you." 

"No, no, not at all." She assures him. 

"Because you live here, don't you?" He asks. "Or are you back in L.A.?" 

"I mainly live here, and then I go back home often to visit and stuff if I don't have work." She explains. 

"And you work a lot." He states. 

"Not that much but--" 

She quits talking when he raises his brows, making the audience laugh. 

"You don't work that much? Are you kidding me?" He leans down and grabs a magazine, holding it up on the desk for the camera and crowd to see. "This is you in your first issue of Playboy." He tells her, flipping through it to find her picture.

"Oh, Lord." She groans before he shows the audience. "Can you do that?!" She asks next, as her naked body is on display, but the monitor shows her bare chest blurred out. 

"Now, this was October of '83, and how old were you when this was taken?" 

"Just turned 18." She explains, her face turning slightly red under her makeup. 

"18, and since then," he starts piling on more and more magazines and men throughout the crowd yell and clap and whistle, Tansy tightly closing her eyes and chuckling nervously, "you've gotten Miss July of '85." He puts that issue aside, before grabbing a final one from the top of the tower of Playboys. "And this is the more recent one, your shoot for 'Miss 1985'." He says next, grabbing several magazines at once and putting them back behind his desk before sitting down and holding it up to show her on the cover. "Absolutely beautiful." He comments. 

"They edit and airbrush and everything but thank you anyways." She exhales, rubbing her lips together. 

"Well, we don't have editing and airbrush and everything in person and I'm telling you, you are a very pretty woman." He assures her and she smiles. 

"Thank you." She replies. 

"So, you started only four and half-ish years ago, and you've been in every issue since then?" He asks and she nods. 

"Yes. Some form or fashion I've been in every one." 

"But you don't work a lot." He reminds her what she said earlier, sarcastically.

"I meant no model works a regular 9 to 5." She clarifies. 

"Got it, got it." He puts the magazine down. "It couldn't be like a 9 to 5 because when else would you all  find the time to go out and party with rockstars?"

"Not all of us party with rockstars." I assure him. 

"So this isn't you?" He holds up a picture with Tansy, Robin Crosby, Nikki, and Jon Bon Jovi. 

"I didn't say I didn't party with them, I said not all models do." She explains while he and the audience chuckles. 

"Now, I know, I think, this fella is Jovi." David points to Jon and she nods. "The rest my mind blanks on." 

"Jon, who's obviously sings for Bon Jovi, and then Robbin Crosby, he plays guitar for Ratt, and then Nikki Sixx, who plays bass for--"

"--The Church of Satan's worship team." David cuts her short and she laughs, along with the audience. 

"No, no. No." She states. "Mötley Crüe." 

"Ah, tomato, tomoto." He shrugs and she shakes her head a little. 

"What was happening here?" He asks, referring to the photo and the camera zooms in on it. 

"I think, honestly, Nikki paid rent on time for once and just invited a bunch of people over to celebrate it." She explains. 

"So, there doesn't need to be a reason to drink and party and 'what not' when you're a rockstar." 

"Not really, no."

"When do these guys have time to write songs, then?" 

"I've seen them buckle down and get to work when they need to."

"Really?" 

"Yeah." 

"And you buckle down, too, obviously."

"Well, I--"

"--I want to know what your boyfriend thinks of all of this." He says next and she raises her brows. 

"Oh, he loves it." She tells him. 

"I bet he does." 

"No, really, he does, he's very proud." She continues.

"He isn't jealous or anything like that?" 

"To an extent but he understands that this is my job and I've always wanted to do it since I was a little girl and so he supports me completely." She nervously scratches at the back of her neck with her freshly done nails. 

"You've always wanted to model nude since you were little?" Letterman asks for clarification and she looks slightly stumped by the question, opening her mouth to speak, but nothing coming out. 

"Speak, Tansy, damnit." Her mom whispers to herself. 

Tansy starts laughing off her shock. 

"Modeling in general." She tells him. 

"Oh, oh, good." He grins. "So, your mother is here with you, Diane."

"Yes." 

"She's so lovely." He says and she smiles. 

"Thank you, she is. I love her to death." 

"She seems very...um…focused." He adds. 

"Very much. She keeps me in check, she always has."

"Oh, I bet. Were you ever in sports or anything like that?" 

"I cheered in high school, and did competitive cheer-nastics, and competed in beauty pageants--not that that's a sport but just to give you an idea of where she learned to keep her thumb on me to keep me in line." 

"That's where I was getting at because she very much seems like the type to keep your eyes on the prize." 

"Oh, yes." 

"What does she think of your career as of now?" 

"She's my manager so I don't think she has any qualms with what I do because if she did she wouldn't be as involved." She shifts her legs. 

That was an understatement. 

I realized over years of witnessing her mother contribute to the toxic shitshow starring Tansy as the lead, that I didn't quite know Tansy's mom as well as I had thought. 

I'd later find out things such as this…

"Competition is in two weeks and you call that a front tuck? Tansy, I've seen drag queens do better than that." 

...And this…

"You being first runner up in a pageant full of sand lizards and beached whales is the reason your father drowned in his own vomit."

"I was five when he died, mom." 

"And eleven years later you're still proving you aren't worth the money I spend to make you a winner." 

…Also…

"He knocked that slut Tami up, didn't he?" 

"I don't want to talk about it, Mama." 

"Just say 'yes' or 'no' so I can know whether I won my bet on it or not." 

...And...

"I slept with your ex-boyfriend, Tansy, big deal." 

"He was the love of my life, Mama, what the hell were you thinking?!" 

"Oh, Jesus, he was with you for two years, Tansy, get over yourself. It's not like it would have lasted to begin with."

"Seriously?!"

"You would've eventually found out I was giving him blowjobs when he'd come over to see you, anyway, because if I didn't do it, it wouldn't have gotten done right. Now wipe those damn crocodile tears." 

…Last but not least…

"I wouldn't stay with a man who let his friends abuse me, you know. I don't know why you're too weak to just leave him."

"I told you last time I slapped the piss out of you it wouldn't happen again. Just because he says it doesn't mean a thing…ugh, and quit wearing so much goddamn makeup. I'm tired of my palm being covered in gunk every time. And quit crying. You can pose with your pussy out but God forbid you handle a little corporal punishment." 

Tansy's rehab therapist had her work cut out for her...for sure. 

"And your dad?" David questions next.

"He passed when I was five, so…"

"...I'm sorry to hear that." 

"No, don't be. I'm sure he's proud of me. I know that might be hard to believe for some dads, like, your daughter being in Playboy, but he'd always told me I could always do whatever it was I wanted to do with my dreams and even if he's not proud of what I'm doing, he's definitely proud of me going after and achieving what it was that I wanted."

My 25 Favorite Films of 2018

It’s hard to believe that 2018 is already coming to a close. Here’s my 25 favorite films from the year!

25. Black Panther

Roughly twenty films into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise certainly needed a pallet cleanser. Black Panther was certainly the antidote. Not only did we get a standalone film from a superhero we didn’t know much about, it took us on adventure in the fictional high-tech nation of Wakanda. Chadwick Boseman brings a freshness and a unique charm to the Avengers table and he’s accompanied by a very talented cast including Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Dana Gurira, and Michael B Jordan, who was easily one of Marvel’s best villains to date. Writer/Director Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale Station) has established himself as a filmmaker on the rise and his career will not be stopping anytime soon. 

24. Boy Erased

Based on a true story, Boy Erased follows the son of a Baptist preacher and his unsettling experience at a gay conversion program. Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea, Ladybird) continues to prove he’s one of the greatest actors from the millennial generation as a young man who struggles with his sexual identity. Joel Edgerton, who wrote, directed, and starred in the film, strikes a balance between intensity and raw emotion. And Nicole Kidman also gives one of her strongest performances in recent memory as the religious mother who goes on her own journey in embracing her son for who he really is. 

23. Sorry to Bother You

Sorry to Bother You cannot be defined by one genre. Part comedy, part fantasy, part sci-fi, and even part horror, this film from newcomer Boots Riley is an imaginative satire that tackles race, class, and capitalism. This marks the biggest and best role from Lakeith Standfield (Atlanta, Get Out) who stars as a telemarketer who quickly climbs the ranks only to find out that the company he works for has nefarious ambitions. There are a lot of WTF moments in this film that cannot be unseen, but it’s all worth it. 

22. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

What ended up being the best animated film of the year and of the best Spider-Man movies ever, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse reimagines the origin story of this classic Marvel superhero with a new cinematic web-slinger Miles Morales, who teams up with other Spider-Men from other dimensions in order to stop the threat to all of their realities. Between the unique forms of animation, a fun script, and a solid voice cast, Into the Spider-Verse rises above in a year filled with superhero flicks.  

21. The Cloverfield Paradox

When the latest chapter in the Cloverfield franchise dropped on the night of the Super Bowl, everyone rushed to Netflix for the surprise release. And while the critics weren’t exactly kind, The Cloverfield Paradox was still a wild, captivating installment. A group of scientists in space must solve the energy crisis that is causing chaos among nations on Earth, but while doing so find themselves entangled in alternative realities. Gugu Mbathu-Raw, Daniel Brühl, Chris Dowd, David Oyelowo, John Ortiz, Ziyi Zhang, Aksel Hennie and Elizabeth Debicki round out this strong, diverse ensemble. 

20. Mission: Impossible - Fallout

At 56 years old, Tom Cruise continues to defy all odds as he keeps his now 20-year-old franchise alive. Ethan Hunt’s latest mission was fitting enough to be his last as his efforts to once again save the world also has him grappling with questions about his own mortality and the loved ones in his life. One of the best action films of the year, Fallout is a ton of fun and filled with well-choreographed sequences and stunts from Cruise himself. 

19. Bad Times at the El Royale

What is fascinating about Bad Times at the El Royale is how much it felt like a puzzle. With its non-linear editing, every scene felt like an individual puzzle piece that once they come together give you a complete picture. Drew Goddard, the mastermind behind the modern cult classic The Cabin in the Woods, returns with a 60s-era crime thriller with a superb soundtrack, awesome production design, and a stellar cast that features Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, Dakota Johnson, Cynthia Erivo, and Chris Hemsworth. 

18. Support the Girls

Support the Girls is a small indie comedy from Andrew Bujalski about a general manager of a sports bar and grill who reaches a boiling point with her life. Regina Hall, best known for her role in the Scary Movie franchise and more recently in Girls Trip, gives the best performance of her career as the heartwarming and heartbreaking Lisa, who while hating her job puts her young waiting staff first. Support the Girls is one of the few films that’s grounded in reality and is a comedic display of ordinary life and the struggles that come with it. 

17. A Simple Favor

What was easily the most Hitchcockian film of the year, A Simple Favor marks a sharp tonal turn from director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy). Anna Kendrick stars a single mother who investigates the strange disappearance of her new friend (played by a terrific Blake Lively). Filled with unexpected turns and a few good laughs, A Simple Favor is a sexy thriller that expanded Feig’s talents.                                                                        

16. Thoroughbreds 

Part psychological thriller, part teenage dark comedy, Thoroughbreds resembles a contemporary Heathers. Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) stars as a girl who relies her sociopathic friend (Olivia Cooke) to plot the murder of her awful stepfather. Newcomer Cory Finley makes an outstanding feature debut and is able to strike a balance between the tragedy and humor of this unlikely friendship. 

15. A Quiet Place

John Krasinski wrote, produced, directed, and starred in his second and best feature to date, A Quiet Place. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, a family adapts to living in complete silence in order to keep themselves out of harms way from these deadly creatures who hunt their prey by the sounds they make. Despite the script with barely a page of dialogue, A Quiet Place speaks volumes with high intensity and terrifying performances from Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt as well as from child actors Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe.  

14. The Death of Stalin

Veep creator Armando Iannucci knows a thing or two about satire. This time, he takes his talents to the big screen with his political comedy The Death of Stalin. As the title explains, the film follows the death of Russian dictator Joseph Stalin and the tug of war over power among his Council of Ministers. The intellectual humor in the screenplay combined with the comical performances of an ensemble cast which includes Steve Buscemi, Simon Russell Beale, Rupert Friend, Andrea Riseborough, and Jason Isaacs marks one of the best comedies of the year. 

13. Hereditary 

Like a modern day Rosemary’s Baby, Hereditary is an unsettling horror film that surrounds the supernatural occurrences of a grieving family after the passing of its estranged matriarch. Writer/Director Ari Aster masterfully crafts a remarkable yet unexplainable thriller with the help of a career-best performance from Toni Collette. 

12. Three Identical Strangers

Sometimes life is stranger than fiction and there is not a better example of that than Three Identical Strangers, a documentary that tells the real-life story about triplets who were separated at birth who discover each other’s existence in college and their journey to discover the grim circumstances that pulled them apart in the first place. What really felt more like a suspense thriller, Three Identical Strangers is an unpredictable, fascinating film about family and the bonds that hold us together. 

11. Widows

Widows is a grade-a heist film from 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen and Gone Girl screenwriter Gillian Flynn. Viola Davis stars as a widow who settles one final score that was all set by her dead husband (Liam Neeson). Suspenseful and emotional from beginning to end, Widows is a female-dominated drama that features one of the best ensembles of the year, including Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, and Robert Duvall. 

10. Game Night

There was not a more laugh-out-loud funny comedy this year than Game Night. It surrounds a group of friends whose game night takes a wrong turn when what’s supposed to be a fun murder mystery becomes very real. Not only does the plot have plenty of twists and turns, the abundance of self-awareness in this wacky film elevates it from the rest. Rachel McAdams and Jason Bateman do their best comedic work in years and they’re accompanied by a hilarious ensemble cast. 

9. Overlord

You don’t often hear of WWII horror films, but Overlord certainly delivers. The J.J. Abrams-produced flick follows a troop of soldiers who stumble upon a gruesome scientific lab where humans are the unfortunate subjects. Overlord is truly an adrenaline rush and the most badass movie of the year. After all, when it comes to Americans kicking some Nazi butt, the gorier the better. 

8. Annihilation 

Annihilation is one of those remarkable films that is so hard to describe. Natalie Portman stars as a biologist who joins a pack of armed explorers in a territory of land where mysteriously the laws of nature are nonexistent. Thought-provoking, captivating, and extremely intense, this female-led sci-fi drama felt like an out-of-body experience. 

7. Crazy Rich Asians

Easily the most enjoyable film of the year, Crazy Rich Asians offers plenty of sights, laughs, and heart. Based off the best-selling novel by Kevin Kwan, this romantic comedy follows NYU professor Rachel (Fresh Off the Boat’s Constance Wu) and her struggle to win over her fiancé’s very judgmental, very crazy, and yes, very rich family. Crazy Rich Asians features eye candy visuals, a fun soundtrack, and a talented ensemble cast. 

6. Roma

Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men) makes his return with his most personal film yet, Roma. Set in Mexico City in the early 1970s, the Spanish-language film chronicles the life of a middle-class family a maid named Cleo (played by newcomer Yalitza Aparicio). Shot in black and white and with incredible cinematography Roma is timeless story about family, class, and the human spirit. It is easily Netflix’s best original film to date. 

5. If Beale Street Could Talk

Oscar-winning writer/director Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) makes a strong return with a tragic love story about a pregnant young woman who struggles to get her fiancé out of jail after he was wrongfully accused of a crime. Based off the book of the same name, If Beale Street Could Talk felt more like watching a play. Along with the gorgeous cinematography and a moving score, this romance is carried by its two leads Kiki Layne and Stephen James as well as Regina King, who gives an Oscar-worthy performance as Layne’s mother. 

4. Eighth Grade

Middle school is the worst and no film has captured the experience better than Bo Burnham’s debut film Eighth Grade. Despite the ever-changing times, this indie comedy manages to connect adult audiences with eighth grader Kayla Day, who struggles to navigate through her adolescence all while attempting to build her presence on social media. Young actress, Elsie Fisher gives a grounded, comical, and sometimes painful performance and Josh Hamilton gives a strong supporting performance as her single father who tries to lift her spirits. 

3. Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

If you grew up on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, then this film will certainly hit home. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? showcases the life of a Presbyterian minister who developed of the most iconic, impactful children’s shows in television history and the struggles he faced along the way. The documentary features interviews of his family, the crew, and cast members, all who give insight of the genius that is Fred Rogers. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is an emotional film that, if you’re lucky, will restore your faith in humanity. And be warned; there was not a dry eye in that theater. 

2. American Animals

Director Bart Layton has an incredible gift of making hybrid films. His underrated 2012 documentary The Imposter felt more like a mystery thriller. And with American Animals, since it’s based on a true story, he injects documentary elements into what normally would be a heist film. The story surrounds these four college kids who plan to steal an extremely valuable book from the campus library. The four leads do outstanding work, but Evan Peters (of American Horror Story fame) particularly gives the best performance of his career as one of the irresponsible thieves. With great editing and strong source material, American Animals is the best film of the year that virtually no one saw.

It’s no surprise that The Favourite is the favorite film of the year. Yorgos Lanthimos, the previously unsung filmmaker behind The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, brings the real-life 18th Century story of Queen Anne to the 21st Century and injects his twisted sense of humor. Olivia Colman stars as the neurotic, but hilarious ruler and Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz compete for her affection. Beautifully shot and superbly written, The Favourite is a remarkable, flawless cinematic masterpiece.

Exactly 8 years ago, on July 22, 2011, two cooperative terrorist acts took place in Norway. The first attack was carried out by a bomb in the center of Oslo, 8 people were killed as a result of an explosion, and at least 209 people were injured, 12 seriously. A few hours later, a terrorist landed on the island of Utoya, there was a summer youth camp on it, and on that day hundreds of children were on the island. An armed mentally ill man opened fire on children, adolescents and adults. As a result, 69 people died and 110 were injured. 77 people died in this terrible, crazy tragic event. 77 smiles, dreams and aspirations are gone. Hundreds of people received the hardest injuries that they are fighting to this day, with physical and moral. Someone has learned to live again and someone will never be able to return to their former life. Because of the psychopath who thought that killing for a "good" purpose is right. Not. I want you to look at these faces and read their names, study their stories and remember. They deserve it.

They have names. They were attending church that Sunday. One of the girls was Carol Denise McNair (pictured here). She was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1951. She was 11-years-old when she and four other young girls went into the basement of the 16th Street Baptist Church on September 15, 1963 to prepare for a sermon, entitled "The Love That Forgives." Denise McNair and the three other girls, Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley would die in the church after a bomb planted by the KKK exploded in the church. The sole survivor of that group was Sarah Collins Rudolph, then 12, the sister of Addie Mae Collins. She remembers, "Denise walked over to Addie and said, ‘Addie, would you tie my sash?’. We all was sitting there watching her [get ready to] tie her sash and all of a sudden I heard this sound. Boom!” Her sister, Addie Mae Collins, 14, and friends, Denise McNair, 11, Carole Rosamond Roberts, 14, and Cynthia Wesley, 14, all had lost their lives in the bombing. Collins Rudolph later was rescued from the rubbish of the bombing with the loss of sight in her left eye. "Tomorrow marks 56 years since the murder of four young girls at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama," according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. "During his eulogy for McNair, Robertson, Wesley and Collins, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called the attack 'one of the most vicious and tragic crimes ever perpetuated against humanity,' according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Some white political leaders before the bombing had encouraged violent acts toward African Americans. Dr. King had sent a telegram to then-Alabama Gov. George Wallace, telling the state’s top segregationist: “The blood of our little children is on your hands.” Ten days before the bombing, Wallace had railed against the civil rights movement to The New York Times, saying, “What this country needs is a few first-class funerals.” President John F. Kennedy would say, "If these cruel and tragic events can only awaken that city and state - if they can only awaken this entire nation to a realization of the folly of racial injustice and hatred and violence, then it is not too late for all concerned to unite in steps toward peaceful progress before more lives are lost." The perpetrators of the bombing at the time received a $100 fine and a suspended 180-day jail sentence. Charles Morgan, Jr., a young, white Alabama lawyer, would deliver a passionate and powerful speech, asking, "Who did it? Who threw that bomb?" and answer "We all did it . . . Every last one of us is condemned for that crime and the bombing before it and a decade ago. We all did it. "The 'who' is every little individual who talks about the 'nig**rs' and spreads the seeds of his hate to his neighbor and his son. The jokester, the crude oaf whose racial jokes rock the party with laughter. The 'who' is every governor who ever shouted for lawlessness and became a law violator. It is every senator and every representative who in the halls of Congress stands and with mock humility tells the world that things back home aren't really like they are. It is courts that move ever so slowly, and newspapers that timorously defend the law." Dr. King would say, “[T]his afternoon, in a real sense [the four girls] have something to say to each of us in their death. They have something to say to every minister of the gospel who has remained silent behind the safe security of stained-glass windows. “They have something to say to every politician who has fed his constituents with the stale bread of hatred and the spoiled meat of racism. … They say to each of us, black and white alike, that we must substitute courage for caution. They say to us that we must be concerned not merely about who murdered them, but about the system, the way of life, the philosophy which produced the murderers.” In a story by the Washington Post, Denise McNair's parents shared that Denise had "a comfortable, enriching life, with a piano and dance lessons." Addie liked to play hopscotch and was often the peacemaker for arguments among her seven brothers and sisters. Cynthia did really well in reading and math, was constantly laughing and "just full of fun all the time." Carole was involved in Jack and Jill of America, the Girl Scouts, the marching band, the choir and the science club. If Denise had lived, her sisters say, she "would have been awesome." Before the bombing, Denise had organized fundraisers to fight muscular dystrophy and would get the other neighborhood children together to read poetry. Her sister said she remembers stories of Denise standing up for others, and says, she would have been "a doctor or lawyer or politician." Denise, however, did not understand the hate she would sometimes face. Her parents tried to teach her that not all whites were racist but could not spare their child the indignities of Jim Crow segregation. "Denise cried . . . when Mr. McNair took her to a five-and-dime store and was forced to explain why she could not sit at the counter for a hot dog," according to the Washington Post. “Remember, baby, what we told you about those few mean white people?” her father told her. “Well, those few people don’t want you to buy a hot dog in a five-and-ten-cent store in Birmingham, Alabama.” For months after his daughter’s death, her father said, he did not cry. “I was angry,” he later told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “But I had a sense of balance. People were asking me, ‘Why don’t you leave?’ I said, ‘Where else can I go and not still be black in the United States?’ My intent was to try to make this a better section of the world.” Rudolph, who has been speaking out, said recently about the bombing she survived, “We shouldn’t think of doing people like that. You don’t know them, and you want to do harm to them? It’s time for this whole nation to really love each other and stop all the killing.” Rudolph said the biggest lesson she learned from her traumatic experience was to love. “That was the name of the sermon,” she said. “That’s what they were talking about that Sunday," she said in an article from The Press of Atlantic City, June 2019. Today, a memorial named “Four Spirits” stands across the street from the church with the inscription “A love that forgives” – the title of the pastor’s undelivered sermon on Sept. 15, 1963. Langston Hughes would also write: “Four little girls Who went to Sunday School that day And never came back home at all– But left instead Their blood upon the wall… …Might be awakened someday soon By songs upon the breeze As yet unfelt among Magnolia trees.”

The Room: Chapter 56 - Cooling the Salamander

Jon was bricking it. The night before the second task and he was still researching ways to reverse his ice bomb that he'd create in the hallway to see if he could use it on the dragons that Daenerys and himself were going to have to face. He would've been in their room, but Dany had a meeting with Professor Lannister about the trial which now had a set date of April 11th, so she'd be preoccupied the whole evening anyways. He'd decided it was probably for the best to be in the dormitory with Theon and Robb going through books to help him. But, they were just arguing all the time so he wasn't really getting help as such.

"This sucks Merlin's balls" Theon grumbled after slamming a book shut and fallen back onto his bed with his eyes closed. Jon rolled his eyes and breathed in deeply, filling his lungs with calm before exhaling. It was the fourth or fifth time he'd complained and frankly, Jon was going to clout him one if he did not shut up. He knew better than anyone that it all sucked balls. Everything did! "Jon, remind me again why you decided to enter the competition?"

"So no one else had to possibly die, now stop moaning before I turn you into a tea cosy!" Jon snapped as he tried to reread the same paragraph in his textbook on the freezing spells and how their counter curses work. He'd only read the first two chapters and Theon had interrupted so there was every chance the answer he was looking for had been in there. He could hear Dany's voice from when they'd been attacked in the hallway, the shock of that he'd never used the spell... the double shock later on when he'd revealed he didn't have a counter-curse for it yet.

Come on Jon, concentrate, he argued with himself as he held his own eyes open as he looked at the words on the duty pages in front of him. The yellowing and ancient books were outdated, but he'd been hoping as Dragons were dangerously ancient creatures that there could be something in the way of freezing a dragon. He knew he was really reaching, but there had got to be something in one of these stupid books he'd got here in the dorm. All three hundred books he'd collected on dragons and freezing spells and counter curses, there had to be something!

The Freezing Spell (Glacius) is a freezing charm that causes air in front of the tip of the wand, to reach cold temperatures in the extreme, which in turn can extinguish fires, create ice blocks from water, and cool off salamanders. The spell is capable of freezing several inches of water solid within seconds, making it durable enough for a thirteen-year old to walk across without falling through or injuring themselves. This charm has the unfortunate side-effect of making the breath of anyone nearby turn into thick white mist due to the extreme frigidity caused by the spell's casting. An object could be enchanted with this spell to attack a person when touched.

Salamanders.

That could be his key to figuring this out! Salamanders were reptiles just like the dragons. The freezing charm can cool off the salamanders or in some cases freeze them to the point where they cannot be a pest in the fire. In many cases, both salamanders and dragons get scale rot too so there was something to be said about using the salamanders as a starting point.

"Jon, found something interesting here about counter curses. It says 'If the opposite does not work, then there is something fundamental in the casting of the spell that is incorrect. For example, if you cannot repair an object broken by reducto through the use of the repairo spell then the casting of the initial reducto was wrong'. That suggests that you need to tweak your spell for it to work correctly and have a successful counter action" Robb showed him the passage in the book he was reading, both of them ignoring the grumbles of Theon.

"That is interesting" Jon says rereading what Robb had spoken aloud. "See, I've found something too. Salamanders are very similar to Dragons. Both of them are actually reptiles that actually which run hot, they both get scale rot. Glacius is used to cool off salamanders without killing or harming them. What if there was a way we could... especially now if we incorporate this information you have given me, what if there was a way we could produce my ice-bomb on a large enough scale to cool off a dragon to the point where I could get past but then it completely melts away after a moment, but by using Salamanders as our starting point"

"Well that would be great Jon, but where do we get salamanders from at eight in the evening?" Robb sighed.

"I might know" Theon pops up off of the bed suddenly, eager to not read any more books but willing to help the cause in a different way. Jon wasn't going to question it, if he wanted to do this for him then Jon was just thankful it wasn't him doing it. "Give me five minutes and I'll let you know what I can do!"

"Okay" Jon nodded.

Theon smirked with glee before climbing over the piles of books in the dormitory, his cloak from his school robe flow behind him and exiting the room leaving Jon and Robb to go through more of the books. Jon knew this was going to be Robb's opportunity to 'have a word' with Jon about this or that. As of late, whenever the two of them had been alone, they never had a laugh as brothers anymore, it was all 'be careful of this and don't do that'.

"How's Dany?" He asks suddenly and Jon find his eyes rolling.

A loaded question that everyone would know tomorrow. Not only was it the first task but the Daily Prophet was running with 'Trial of the Century' on their headline paper as everything had been set in place for Daenerys' trial. She'd been worried about it all day but there was nothing she could do. And there was certainly nothing he could do to make her feel better besides be there for her and try and take her mind of of things. Luckily for them both they'd had a tone of homework to do as well as lessons to keep busy.

And of course, the kissing too. He'd never get used to it. The smell of coconut in his nose, the feel of her lips on his and the intensity of which they held each other because of it. If Robb could read his thoughts he'd accuse him of going soft. Of course, he had done, he'd fallen in love and it had been something completely magical for him. "She's fine, just got a meeting with Professor Lannister tonight about tomorrow. She's a little rattled about it all, that's all"

"Oh, the task?" Robb says nonchalantly and Jon can tell he's digging for gossip. Jon had thought about telling Robb many times about what had happened with Daenerys. It wasn't that he did not trust Robb to keep the secret because he did, Theon was the one likely to blab, it was that it wasn't his secret to tell, it was hers. And yet he always imagined that when it finally does come out, Robb will be mad for not confiding in him over something that had him rattled. But he'd have to get over it, Jon knew it was the right decision to make, and he'd have to understand that.

"Yes the task. She's got her plan all together but she had to borrow some books off of him and I think that he said she could have them under the condition she helps him do his correspondence tonight" Jon lied, a believable one at that. It was like Daenerys to offer a teacher help with their marking or outside of school work in order to get something in return. She once alphabetised all of Professor Flitwick's charms books on his shelf just so she could use the classroom by herself as a study room once.

"And how are you holding up?" Robb asks nosily.

"Robb, why are you asking twenty questions?" Jon said abruptly, so much so Robb blinked furiously before flushing the colour of Sansa's hair. He was up to something and he didn't like the idea of it. "Every time it's been just you and me, you keep asking me how I'm coping and if I'm eating enough and if I need help with the task and what this means and that means and it's completely unlike you"

"Can I not as my brother questions?" Robb said a little too defensively for Jon's liking. What are you hiding from me, Robert Stark? What will I discover if I start asking you questions? Jon didn't think he's find out anything new particularly. Robb was an open book to read, he slept with lots of girls even though he only liked Talisa, he pulled pranks and laughed at others when something goes wrong. He was also fiercely protective of his family.

"A normal brother would but you've never asked me this many questions before so why have you started now?" Jon raises a brow and folds his arms to let Robb know he's serious and wants an answer. Robb pales before sheepishly grinning and taking a letter out of his bedside table. Jon had no idea what was coming next, had no idea what had occurred. "What's that?"

"Dear son, I'm pleased your wild side has finally calmed a bit, as for the girl- Er you know what that bits not important. Let me see, here we go" Robb blushed. Jon couldn't help but stifle a giggle, Robb wasn't comfortable with girl talk unless it was about conquests. "He says 'I know that he's more capable than any other wizard I've ever met, he's got so much potential but please I'm concerned for my son. I know things have been rough with us as a family, but I care and the thought of him losing his way or concentration because of a girl, one he didn't even like until this year, one of that lineage, his rival in this tournament, it scares me. I don't want him to die, Robb. Please, just keep an eye on him for me, he wouldn't appreciate me talking like this in our own correspondence"

Jon's mind swilled with many emotions. First of all, there was annoyance. Annoyance that Robb had not told him that their father had corresponded in such a way with him, annoyance that their father had the  nerve to be concerned when he'd never shown it before, annoyance that he'd questioned his relationship with Daenerys. Then came the anger. Jon was livid when he thought on it, livid at the assumptions that had been made.

How dare my own father suggest that Daenerys is making me weak, that I might lose the tournament or my life because our love for each other is making me lose sight of the goal of winning and surviving. He didn't know anything, he knew nothing of their relationship so why was he pretending to care? He didn't know the heartbreak she'd been through and how he'd helped her get herself into a normal person once again. None of them did! Also, of that lineage? Jon didn't have the right to get angry at people about this anymore, he'd used that against her in the past but now, he'd seen her for what she was. And tomorrow was going to be proof that she was the strongest person in this school.

"I can't even begin..." Jon didn't even know how to articulate himself. He was huffing and puffing in angst as words came and went on his tongue quickly. He'd be seeing them tomorrow too, he'd be seeing them all and it would end up pouring out of him like wine at Christmas. He knew he would. Robb opened his mouth to say something but Jon held his hand up. "I don't want to hear anything, let me think on it. I'm too angry right now and I'll end up saying something I regret!"

"You're angry because father cares about you?" Robb said dumbly and that was it then. Jon couldn't help himself.

"I'm not angry because he cares about my welbeing Robb, Merlin's beard I'm shocked he actually does for once care about the son he had out of marriage as much as his others! I'm angry that he thinks he can suggest that Daenerys is clouding my judgement and making me lose focus in the tournament he suggested I enter. He also told me to stop arguing with Dany as it was getting tiring so I did that. And I actually saw the person she was underneath everything else!"

"And so you think that by fucking her you're not getting distracted?" Robb laughed, mistaking the situation for something comical, that or he genuinely was thinking it was amusing. Jon didn't know which concerned him more.

"How many times do I have to tell you and Theon that we're not sleeping with each other yet? That our relationship isn't at that level?" Jon snapped, not wanting to cause a scene but one was occurring anyway. "I keep telling you, what Dany and I get up to or don't get up to when we're doing our head duties or researching so we don't die in this tournament is between us. And it stays that way! I'm not about to tell you how we've helped each other this year, it's personal to us both!"

"You know Jon, there was a time you told me everything" Robb grunted.

"And now I don't because I have bigger concerns in my life than worrying what Catelyn's opinion of me is or whether Ygritte will forgive me for kissing Thelma Durrell in the Dungeons. There's things going on that you don't understand and when you do, you'll realise why I keep very quiet about it" Jon snaps, throwing a book on the ground after seeing it has no uses to him. "It takes trust before I tell you something like what's eating at me now"

"And you don't trust me?" Robb said in a tone similar to 'Oh, I get it now'.

"I do trust you, but she doesn't" Jon said before declaring he wasn't saying anything else on the matter and that he'd find out sooner rather than later. Robb folds his arms up in a grump but reluctantly gives up the Ghost and continues to go through books. This was when Theon returned, two salamanders scurrying in a cage that he was holding with dragon hide gloves to stop himself from burning. As soon as he entered he could feel the tension in the air. He makes a joke about leaving for five minutes and suddenly it all goes to shit.

They'd see, they both will. Tomorrow.
