Hey friends!!! I hope that everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a fantastic holiday, and for those of you who don’t, I hope you’re smack in the middle of a wonderful weekend.

As a lot of you probably know, my husband and I own an Etsy shop called Rustic Elegant Events. We create engraved wooden portraits, collages, replica wedding/event invitations, ornaments (hot tip: use the order of ten ornaments as personalized stocking or gift tags that the recipient can add to their own decorations!) bookmarks and more. Currently, everything in the shop is 20% off, with free shipping anywhere in the US on orders over $35. This includes all the clearance items, too, which are now all between $4-$12!

I splurged. All the Nintendo stuff is for a niece's 7th birthday. One of those two FF7 Rebirth copies is for a friend's birthday. The PS4 Horizon is for a sibling's birthday. The rest is for me.

Yoboseyo Superette, 358 E 2nd St, Los Angeles (Little Tokyo), CA 90012

Yoboseyo Superette is a stylish neighborhood superette (with sauces, drinks, ice cream, snacks, candy, granola, olive oil, prepared foods, and a coffee/tea bar. It’s owned by the same people who own Café Dulce. They focus on Asian American brands, often local ones.  

I was surprised that over half of what they carry isn’t food. Some of it is food related like cookbooks and other items are decorative/lifestyle items. They had candles, trays, ceramics, dried flowers, soaps, skin care, greeting cards, washi tape, etc.

The strange thing about their salads, sandwiches and breakfast menu (burrito, sandwich) is that you have to pre-order everything a day before you pick it up. Very odd. They had a soft serve machine but it wasn’t working. But you can order espresso drinks, matcha drinks, iced tea, and tea lattes. They plan to start roasting coffee beans on the premises. Parking

They carried brands of ice cream that I hadn’t seen elsewhere in Asian flavors: 626, Noona’s, and Mochidoki. I noticed another market in Little Tokyo carried Noona’s for $9.99 (regular price, $6.99 on sale); Yoboseyo sells the same thing for $14. Quite a markup!

I bought a greeting card and some black sesame granola. Neither item had any visible pricing.

I'm totally unbiased when I say handmade gifts are much better than mass-produced gifts. Handmade are one-of-a-kind, which means the chances of you finding something identical is immeasurably slim. Those of us who create handmade wares generally have a higher quality standard. With regards to my quilts, I make them to be loved, cherished, and used, without falling apart after just a few washes. Store-bought blankets tend to fall apart rather quickly, which then leads to purchasing a replacement, and the store-bought replacement will fall apart shortly thereafter.

If you're looking for gifts that will survive love and use, something that stands out, was made with love, and there won't be anything identical to it, consider handmade.

Now that holiday shopping is upon us, craft fairs will be popping up everywhere. Check them out. I do recommend wearing a mask seeing as so many items at those shows tend be heavily scented. The last time I tried selling my work at a craft fair, we ended up having to leave within an hour of it opening. Four vendors near me all had things scented as strong as Yankee Candle, and my asthma was Not Okay. It's one of the reasons why I will never again sell my work at a craft fair.
