little snippet from my current wip
x
When I was fourteen and a half, I realized that I was in love with my best friend Ethan Pierce.
We were in our living room- he practically lived at my house- and he was shoveling popcorn into his mouth as if it were the last day he could eat them.
I sat there, a fistful of popcorn in my own hand, staring at his face wondering when exactly he lost his baby cheeks. Then he turned to me and said, through a mouthful of popcorn, “You lose something over here, Jelly?” My cheeks flushed a furious red and I shoved the popcorn I was holding into my mouth, chewing quickly.
“OK, weirdo,” he muttered around a smile before turning back to the tv.
"I was looking at you because you chew like a cow, loser!” I said, a little too late but he didn’t even seem to notice.
He lunged at me, hands tickling my stomach, yelling “Moo! Mooooo!” and I dissolved into a fit of giggles.
When I was fifteen, I realized that I was not in love with my best friend Ethan Pierce, I just loved him.
When I was not too busy being annoyed by him.

Book Review: The Ex Factor by Harini Srinivasan
A pacy love story for firebrands, who don’t seek order amidst chaos, simply because they thrive in chaos You are never too old to read romantic novels, I firmly believe in this. Romance has the ability to charm you out of your banal surroundings. The Ex Factor is not the compelling romance that Mills & Boon dishes out, it is chick lit on home soil. It takes us into the world of social…

One Last Stop
Tumblr media
One Last Stop
Casey McQuiston
Summary: (from Goodreads): For cynical twenty-three-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures. But then, there’s this gorgeous girl on the train. Jane. Dazzling, charming, mysterious, impossible Jane. Jane with her rough edges and swoopy hair and soft smile, showing up in a leather jacket to save August’s day when she needed it most. August’s subway crush becomes the best part of her day, but pretty soon, she discovers there’s one big problem: Jane doesn’t just look like an old school punk rocker. She’s literally displaced in time from the 1970s, and August is going to have to use everything she tried to leave in her own past to help her. Maybe it’s time to start believing in some things, after all.
Genre: Romance, a little fantasy
Ship type: f/f
Why you like it: It is funny, with a very lovable cast, who feel very real and relatable. While the romance is sweet, the combination of that plus the found family plot makes this one of my favorite comfort reads. Everyone loves McQuiston's Red, White, and Royal Blue, but I think One LastStop is far superior.

Lenni Reviews: "Otaku Vampire's Love Bite" Vol. 1, by Julietta Suzuki
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Hina is a vampire who loves anime and since she’s never bitten a human, she gets permission from her father to move to Japan where she can be closer to the media she adores. Her neighbor, Kyuta, looks exactly like her favorite character but has none of the fictional man’s personality. Despite this, they do become friendly…

                                                   A
I wanted to scream. A scream is an A. A is a scream. A scream. A person. What am I?
A scream welled up inside me, desperate for release. A scream, like the 'A' grade I relentlessly pursued. A scream that embodied my identity, my worth. Who was I?
“Ms Li, we’re here.” 3 years. 3 years of coming to this school. And every year it has remained unchanged—the same old gate, the same cobblestone and the same line of butlers to take your things. Unchanged. Uniformed. Conforming.
“女儿啊... 好好读书... Good luck with your O levels.” My parents never came to see me. All they wanted to see was “A”. Maybe that’s why they called me “Astris”. A*. Asterix. It sounded the same to my parents whose first language wasn’t English.
It was the same routine. The butlers would move my things into my dorm and I would spend the rest of the day revising for the first lesson the next day. But today was different. He was here. Zeng Liwei. Zeng Liwei who dethroned me in the rankings last year. Zeng Liwei and his smug smile. How could he just stand there smirking at me? How could he?
“Li.”
“Not in the mood, Zeng.”
“I was just greeting you.” His Chinese accent resonated strongly, his attempts to conceal it were amusing.
“As I’ve said. Not in the mood.”
An idiot. He was an idiot. A sudden pressure on my back shocked me as somebody’s hands covered my eyes.
“Guess who!”
“I missed you too, Zel.”
Zelmira Frances. The smartest girl in our school. She was so smart that she was untouchable. For three years, she had claimed the top spot in every subject, achieving perfect scores effortlessly. Dedicated, unwavering, unbreakable. Her once cascading tawny locks had been transformed into a stylish bob, and her mossy green eyes remained as enchanting as ever, drawing me in just as warmly as her embrace.
“Long time no see, Astris.” Rhory was here too. It made sense. Both Liwei and Zelmira were here. His best friend and his crush. The Honourable Rhory Byrnes, Zeng Liwei and the ‘love of his life’, Zelmira Frances.
I’m joking. Rhory was my best friend. We’d known each other for the longest time. My mother had friends in Ireland, and by chance, one of them became Rhory's stepmother. During my formative years in Greece, he was my steadfast companion. We bonded over our shared love for ice hockey, though I eventually moved on to fencing while he remained devoted to the sport. When I returned to China, we believed we would never see each other again. Then fate intervened, enrolling us both in this boarding school.  See the rest on @/dysophien on wattpad :O

Here the Whole Time
Quinze Dias / 15 Days in Portuguese
Author: Vitor Martin
World Challenge read for 🇧🇷 Brazil
Review
Felipe is looking forward to summer vacation, binge-watching media at home far away from the bullies that torture him for being fat. Until his mom informs him that his neighbor and crush Caio, will be sharing his room for the next 15 days.
I went into this book expecting rom-com room-sharing antics and teenage angst. What I got was way better. This was a really beautiful, honest conversation about body insecurities, bullying, and opening up to others. While those seem like heavy topics, this book is really like a big warm hug, to borrow from another reviewer's words. Felipe is super sweet and I want to cheer for him, and bonus points for a supportive single Cool Mom.

“I don’t know if I love Angie. I know I love her as my best friend, my sister, my soulmate. But is that really the love others think of? A soulmate is so much more than a single feeling. I call Angie my soulmate, but soulmates can be platonic too. I have always loved her one way or another- how could I possibly know if I love her? I don’t know.”

What, according to you, is the difference between romance and comtemporary? I often see those two genres categorized separately, but could never figure out the difference.
I’ll be honest, I’m probably the worst person to ask as I don’t strictly read romance but I do like fantasy with romance in it.
I think romance is the umbrella term and contemporary romances are set in a modern day setting?
Anybody else want to chip in?

A guide to literary genders: v.1 Fiction
Who know at least a little about the literary universe, knew that there are an infinite number of ranges and themes that a book can cover. If you're interested in exploring different literary genres and don't know where to start. I'd be delighted to give you a few ideas to get in
This is how we begin the first post in the series ''a guide to literary genres''.
Fiction writers create stories using their imagination and figurative language to create characters and settings that stimulate their readers' imaginations. It includes a wide range of subgenres, such as mystery, romance, or mythology.
You can choose to write in a single genre or mix them all into their story.
Tumblr media
Romance is a literary genre that has been around for a long time. It is known for focusing on romantic love and the emotional experiences that come with it. Also, can transport readers to a different world, where they can experience the highs and lows of love alongside the characters.
This type of book often causes strong emotional reactions, ranging from a heart-breaking to a touching love story.
You can be a fan of historical romance, contemporary romance, or any other sub-genre. So here come 3 recommendations:
