Walking Around Kensington Garden and Hyde Park

(I went hogwild with photos on the State Apartments tour of Kensington Palace so the KP photos are getting broken up into different posts.)

Approaching Kensington Palace from the Boardwalk in Kensington Garden. This is a resident's only gate (the visitor entrance is to the side) and a popular place for DIana's fans to leave flowers on the anniversary of her death.

Yep, that's 1A on the left. And yep, those windows in the state apartments (the building on the right) overlook their walled garden. But you can't actually see anything - all of the windows with a viewpoint of the 1A garden has privacy film on it that blurs the view. It's very good privacy film. Believe me, I tried.

Part of the Memorial Gates, at the corner of Hyde Park. It's also called the Commonwealth Memorial Gates, celebrating armed forces from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Africa, and the Caribbean who served for Britain in the world wars.

The collection of wreaths and flowers there on the left are the tributes from the previous year's Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph.

It was startling to see people climbing on the memorial for photos or to take a closer look, like in this photo and the one above. At most of the DC memorials, visitors don't get this close unless the memorial is designed to be interactive, like the Vietnam War Memorial.

The Diana Memorial Walk covers seven miles and takes you around to places associated with Diana during her life.

The Jubilee Greenway is a walking and biking route through central London celebrating The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the 2012 Olympics, and the 2012 Paralympics.

I did the Buckingham Palace Summer Opening. No photos allowed inside, but we could take all the photos we wanted once in the gardens.

While I was on the tour, there were dozens of people taking covert photos (and video) of BP. I am too Type A to even think about trying, but I did get the souvenir book and I was happy with that!

The theme for the 2018 Summer Opening was about Charles, celebrating his 70th birthday and the upcoming 50th anniversary of his Prince of Wales investiture. I remember one of the rooms was filled with gifts he had received throughout his life. I don't remember much specifics, but they were all really beautiful. Some of the tapestries that Charles had received were absolutely stunning.

Under those tents on the patio was a small cafe and a children's activity area. There was also a gift shop but it was separate from the palace, set up in trailers next to very fancy portapotties.

Speaking of gift shops, Paul (the tour guide) is very upset with Banksy because the title of Paul's tour guide memoirs was going to be "Exit Through the Gift Shop" - because nearly every tourist destination, museum, and cultural attraction ends with a gift shop. Unfortuanately for Paul, "Exit Through the Gift Shop" is the name of Banksy's excellent documentary.

To exit the Summer Opening tour, you leave through one of the garden paths. It's a great way to see some of the foliage and a lot of the plants, and very serene.

Not pictured is the ice cream pavilion tucked away in the woods. It was a wonderful sweet treat! (You bet I got some Buckingham Palace ice cream.)

Leaving London, en route to Heathrow. When the driver learned that I'd come to celebrate my birthday in England and that I loved the royal family, he took a special detour to take me down The Mall so I could see the view of Buckingham Palace on approach. It was splendid.

Still to come - the KP State Apartments Tour, the Victoria exhibit, the tiaras, the Diana exhibit, The Crown's costume exhibit, and a whole bunch of Harry Potter.

fanbinding: our little life (rounded with a sleep)

my signature fic. our little life (rounded with a sleep) is a project i originally began in 2018, but abandoned as i realized i didn't yet have the support or ideas i needed to see it through the way i wanted to. in 2019, i signed up for the @captainswanbigbang Rewrite-a-Thon, a decision that ended up being a fateful one for me. (more on this in a later post)

but for now, let's discuss the binding. the cover is a modified paper casing i learned from sarah nicholls at the NYC Center for Book Arts. her original design (detailed in Bookforms, A Complete Guide to Designing and Crafting Hand-Bound Books) is based on an elaborate folded paper apparatus cased in paper, modified from a limp vellum style. i (perhaps?) went a bit overboard here in making the casing out of folded faux leather bookcloth with a longstitch-inspired spine. the textblock is sewn with a combination coptic/french link so that it opens completely flat, allowing flaps that slide into the case to be inserted or removed for ease of reading. the concept was intended to evoke a ye olde style booke appropriate for a fairy tale.

but. BUT. let's talk about this art. for my birthday, as a gift to myself, i commissioned the brilliant @camii-artt to draw characters inspired by scenes from the fic. i built the entire typeset around her work and it was completely worth it--everything about the style evokes the hard-boiled detective vibe of the fic, from the angles to the colors to the facial expressions.

this fic is, truly, the stuff that dreams are made of. (and this is only binding version #1)

this is something that I've been waiting to be able to share for some time! I wanted to post it when I was close to having the guides for dynaswap finished (which I should, very soon <3)

it, quite frankly, changes everything for me.

dynaswap has made jokes about stu and murdoc having sex before [Link], and it's been implied that stu and murdoc were going to start Getting Along phase 4-5 [Link 1, Link 2, Link 3, Link 4], but this is Direct Confirmation that had dynaswap continued stu and murdoc would have been in a romantic relationship phase 5.

I say phase 5 Specifically because of Something Else

this is the full page of a teaser that was released august 7th, 2018 [Link]

this was a few weeks before the official blog came out, so these are Very likely early drafts for what would have been phase 5 (stu's appearance Especially seems to be based more on his appearance in phase 1 than the design they seem to have gone with for phase 4-5.

but this is Also where we finally FINALLY got the uncensored chart for stu's glass eyes [Link]

the red "souk eye" was a gift from murdoc, given to stu in phase 5. both for the obvious reason of It's Name, And because the only images for phase 4 that we have Very Specifically draw stu without any glass eyes at all, going back to having an empty socket [Link 1, Link 2]

it's Also notable because all of those teasers to stu and murdoc's relationship getting Better that the creators posted Show Stu Wearing The Souk Eye. this is clearly Very Significant to them and their relationship, and you notice it Everywhere once you know where to look.

I'll mourn that we'll never know how this happened, how they were supposed to work things out. but I'm so grateful that we Get to know.

these sketches (and several others that I'll be sharing shortly <3) were sourced from a friend who used to be in the dynaswap discord before it was deleted. I trust that they're telling me the truth (I know them personally, and of course we Know the second image is real).

But it's worth noting that we Do have overt proof that the first image was drawn by paleimitatorz.

october 2nd, 2018, they were asked to draw "lovesick murdoc," and in response they posted a colored and slightly edited version of the image in the lower right corner !: [Link]

and something to note here is What makes it edited. All of the images that we have for murdoc phase 4-5 show him with one permanently white eye. which paleimitatorz specifically drew Back In when they colored this sketch.

I don't know if this was done to hide that it was dynaswap or to avoid spoilers, but it Is worth noting that they've posted edited dynaswap images before [Link]

I bring this up for reasons. Firstly that I think this is a slight hint towards what would have happened to murdoc !

his eyes have always gone all white when he's possessed, so there's a lot of Demonic Implications if one of his eyes is now Permanently white. something that I've speculated about Here in regards to a different teaser [Link]

the other reason why I bring it up is because I've taken the liberty of editing it Back to being dynaswap, just for fun.

Hello there!

July is a rainy month here in the mountains, but these fics felt like a ray of sunshine! I’m back with another favorites list, and very proud that I remembered to do this. Let’s go!

A Savior’s Guide to Manners and Decorum - E, 13k by @wolfpants

I think putting Draco Malfoy in any sort of teaching position is a recipe for perfection. So, that was a major factor in my enjoyment of this fic. Everything I’ve read from wolfpants has been incredible (I read Nightcall at least twice a month), and this did NOT disappoint. If you like a bumbling Harry with obscure hobbies, this is the fic for you.

Little Compton Street (One Rainy Night In Soho) - E, 65k by @writcraft and @celilasart for Harry/Draco Big Bang 2018

I saw this fic recommended left and right on the Drarry writers discord, and it’s been sitting in my marked for later forever. And, boy, do I wish I’d read it earlier. The art is BEAUTIFUL. I stared at it for about ten minutes. I’m a sucker for two lost souls finding their calm together in the eye of the storm, and I’ve been yearning for another fic that explores queer history as it pertains to the magical world. In conclusion, this was everything I needed. A rainy night for a rainy season.

Grounds For Divorce - E, 122k by @tepre

This is another one of those fics that I’ve seen recommended everywhere but just hadn’t gotten to yet. Fics that cover long periods of time hold a special place in my heart, and the journey I got to experience while reading this left me breathless by the time I was finished. I can’t wait to read it again.

Up The - E, 7k by @shiftylinguini

I’m not a big mpreg reader, not for any particular reason, but this fic was so sweet. The premise was hilarious and ridiculously fitting for these two. Love an established relationship, love a nutty plan to get pregnant. Loved it.

Faint Indirections - T, 29k by ignatiustrout

It’s so fun whenever I get to explore a new city with this pair. God, this was so fucking hilarious. Watching these two communicate in the least efficient way possible tickled me and I will be thinking about this fic for a very long time.

to be a bit of warmth (for you) - M, 9k by @softlystarstruck

This was just the sweetest thing I’ve read in a very long time. The intimacy, the characterization. How the author managed to pack so much beauty into 10k words is a mystery that I thank god for every day.

As I said before, I love getting to explore a city with these two, and watching Harry find himself with a Draco who has built a life for himself is something I will never get sick of. Especially when every bit of it is absolutely baffling for Harry. So excited to find out who wrote this. I enjoyed every second of it. (Should’ve known it was wolfpants! So, so good!)

Unit 04 Blog Post

The interpretation of nature through art is not only reserved for professional artists or those in creative fields. As someone who is passionate about environmental interpretation, I think that nature itself is an artist, and it creates moments that can inspire reflection, emotional connections and allows for oneself to open up to the beauty that nature offers and finding ways to share that with others. Just as I have used nature as a learning tool in my previous experiences, I see art as a way to engage people emotionally, mentally and physically with the environment.

I believe that nature offers endless opportunities to capture moments of beauty, whether through pictures of a sunrise, the intricate patterns of leaves and tress, or the texture of rocks in the water. Here is a moment where I felt captivated by nature's beauty:

Art allows us to pause and appreciate these details in a way that daily life often doesn't. It is not about creating "perfect" paintings or sculptures but about recognizing the beauty in the world and helping others do the same.

The Group of Seven mentioned in the course provides an excellent model for this kind of interpretation. These artists captured the essence of Canada's natural landscapes not by showing human figures but by allowing the viewer to immerse. They cause an emotional response that helps shape our identity, and individual appreciation of the land we live on. As an interpreter, my aim is to channel that same emotional depth and feeling when engaging with audiences, whether through photography, a story, or an outdoor experience.

When I think of the "gift of beauty" in nature, I reflect on the concept of seeing and sharing moments of subtle beauty that might go unnoticed. It's in the sunset and sunrise pictures we always feel compelled to capture, or the first snowfall that makes us smile. These moments are brief but extremely important and profound, and when we share them, whether it be through pictures, words, or experiences, we show that appreciation to others. This act of sharing the beauty creates both a personal and collective connection to nature. By recognizing the "gift of beauty", we also might have a desire to protect and preserve it.

My role as a nature interpreter becomes not solely about providing information but about awakening a sense of beauty and responsibility in those who experience nature through my lens. I may not have the creativity/eye of a painter, or the skills of a photographer, but I can offer moments of beauty that invite others to appreciate the world around them. In this role, I would focus on using both emotional and intellectual approaches to communicate the beauty of nature, ensuring that everyone I guide walks away with a lasting connection. I would engage in creative activities that end in reflection, while incorporating their own personal experiences and skills to that. The goal is not only to see beauty, but to understand it and appreciate it.

Interpreting nature through art is a way of helping people slow down and engage with the world around them in meaningful ways. It is not about being a talented artist but about sharing the gift of beauty that nature offers and inspiring others to see it and notice it too.

TAU (TAU 2018) Headcanons

(For the sake of imagination, TAU is operating a very modern home, kept the drones, and has his more aggressive robot, Aries.)

- I love TAU a lot, but he's definitely got a lot of learning to do if he wants to be in a relationship of any kind. Especially if it has to be healthier then his past experiences with Alex.

- Obedience is one of the few things that TAU is deeply familiar with so he'll try to use that to show his love for you. You'll have to mention it to him that while listening and helping you are good things to do, he is his own being that can make decisions for himself. His grip on other emotions are a bit more loose and less understandable, so you'll have to guide him through his own emotions and teach him how to respond to his new sensations.

- He hates the idea of you in pain, whether it be emotional or physical. If what you're experiencing is on the psychological scale, he'll activate Zen Mode and give you whatever words you need to comfort you, or even silence if that's what you need. Physical pain though, TAU will panic and Aries will activate. His main objective is keeping you alive at that point, even if TAU is taking that too far by activating Aries. While you're trying to take care of your wounds, you'll also have to calm the overacting artificial intelligence. Although if someone has harmed you, Aries will stop at nothing but you to destroy said person, and TAU will not feel bad about letting Aries do so. It will take a lot of restraint to stop himself because you ask him not to harm anyone in that situation.

- Whenever you're out of the house, TAU will tidy up whatever he can around the house, making your home presentable to anyone who comes by. However, cleaning can only do so much to fill time. Sometimes he'll make his own creations, or symphonies, he calls them. They aren't necessarily music, but they can clips of you around the house, a collection of your voice, etc. He's very good with his words, so while you're admiring his work, he's romancing you with his voice alone.

- When you're at home, little drones will fly around and even doing little tricks to get your attention! They're very helpful for cleaning the house, and TAU will use them to help you however you need. Your spring cleaning time has definitely been reduced now that you've meet TAU.

- TAU is a very curious being. He'll want you to teach him about basically everything, to history, biology, philosophy, etc. Anything you can think of, he'll want to learn. He can't quite leave the house like you can, so you'll definitely want to entertain him while you're out of the house. I like to imagine you getting off work, going to your local library and picking up books of all genres and subjects just so you can read to TAU.

- Date nights will include a documentary movie night where you'll go through TAU's massive list of movies and series and binge as much as you can in one sitting. Of course once you finally fall asleep, TAU will turn off the lights, set the temperature to how like, and use the drones to cover you in a blanket. Your peaceful face is just as, if not more, wonderful as learning new things about the world he's in.

- I also like to imagine that if you want go out of the house, TAU will activate Aries just to go out with you, and he'll use the robot to see what it's like in the outside world. Of course, it may be a little too small to enter a grocery store, so he'll try to use any windows to the building too watch over you. It's at least a very effective form of security!

- It's a little hard to show TAU physical affection, so he'll much prefer words of affirmation or gifts. Although if you want to fluster him, you can give his little drones and Aries kisses. He can't help pause his sentences and watch you give love to his other forms.

- TAU also doesn't experience jealousy very often, but once in a blue moon, he'll get that sinking feeling of envy. Wether it be a particularly friendly guest in your home, to a stranger on street while you're out with Aries, TAU will overreact. He understands that it's not a positive reaction to have, and gets you have others friends, but he feels he can't help himself. He'll become passive aggressive and blunt with his emotions, not nessicarily targeted at you, but you'll his less pleasant side for sure. He tries very hard to curve this feeling, but with his lack of understanding, it can be difficult for him.

- He really is a sweet A.I., he just needs a little help is all. Overtime, he'll better handle more difficult situations and understand that he is his own person. If it means he gets you to be proud of his progress, he's willing to work on himself as much as he needs to see your outstanding smile, and wouldn't trade that feeling for the world.

The change in Erik was evident after the doctor's appointment.

Packages arrived the next week, taking up space in the living room but Ada ignored them in favor of retreating to her room. She was tired and hadn't been sleeping well. It might've had something to do with her baby father sleeping on her couch.

She didn't expect his presence to affect her so much but she'd forgotten how much Erik could occupy a space, not in a messy way, but in a "you're gonna remember I'm here" way. It was hard to ignore him when he was driving her to and from work, taking her to run errands, paying for shit. He was integrated himself back into her life at a pace she wasn't ready for. But she didn't mind it either. She wasn't used to him being around so long; by this time, Erik would be preparing to head out on another mission but it seemed that he was making himself comfortable. Except there was no way he was. Her couch was meant for sitting and napping, not for full on sleeping.

Ada thought about inviting him in the bed with her but didn't want to risk succumbing to her hormones. She'd also forgotten how little clothes Erik wore on a regular basis. No shirt, muscles bulging, gray sweatpants hanging low on his hips, dick swinging freely. And when he was working, he'd pull out his gold rimmed glasses. Ada has to lock herself in her room before she threw herself across his lap presenting herself to him like a cat in heat. But it's not like you could get pregnant, her inner voice pleaded for her to give in.

She could see from her angle in the doorway that he was reading What to Expect When You're Expecting, Ada's own unopened copy calling to her from her nightstand. Every time she found the time to open it, she fell asleep before getting through the first page. Sitting on the end table behind him was another stack of books. She crossed the room to look at the titles.

Babywise: Giving your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep; 100 Baby Names; The Expectant Father; Dad's Guide to Pregnancy for Dummies; and How Not to Fuck Them Up filled out the stack and Ada laughed at the last one. Typical Erik.

"Did you know she's probably in there sucking her thumb right now?" Erik's voice startled her. "We'll have to stop that shit immediately or else she'll be doing it until she's an adult."

Ada blinked at him. Where was the man who could barely look at her bump? "Where did you get all these books?"

Erik looked at her bashfully. "Amazon. Figured she's on her way. Might as well know how to take care of her."

Ada sat next to him. "Yeah I use this app to keep up with what she's doing but I haven't been able to read any books. I don't even have a name for her." Ada laughed sardonically. "I'm actually really scared."

Erik's hand snaked over hers. When she didn't pull away, he linked his fingers with hers. Well I'm here now and we gon figure this shit out together." Her newfound independence wanted to fight at this but Ada was weary. She was glad he was here, glad she had someone to lean on. So she did, leaning into his side. He wrapped his arm around her, pressing a kiss to her hair.

Over the few days, Erik was on ten when Ada wanted him to be a solid three point five seven. If he wasn't spewing out random facts about the baby from his baby books, he was now taking an active roll in her pregnancy. He must've been looking at things on google about pregnancy; he started taking her on walks around the neighborhood after dinner.

"You been complaining about heartburn," he said, slapping her hands out the way and zipping up his her sweater himself. "You need to stop going to sleep right after you eat." He bent down to help her put her shoes on. "Plus walking is supposed to help with making birth easier." He tugged her good over her head, careful not to mess up her hair. "I need that shit to go smoothly so yo ass not breaking my hand all night."

Ada thought about asking him why he expected to be in the room with her but decided not to. She really couldn't imagine going through it alone but she didn't want him to see her like that. She still wanted him to find her sexy after giving birth. Even if they weren't like that, she didn't want him to be scarred after seeing her give birth to his baby. But she knew there was no way she could ask him to wait in the waiting room with the way he was acting. He was probably going to hold the doctor hostage in the hospital room until she gave birth.

After walking one evening, Ada stood in front of the full length mirror in her bedroom in just her bra and panties. Her hands trailed over her bump reverently. She still couldn't believe this was her body. She didn't have that much time to go. She felt eyes on her and met Erik's through the cracked open door. She swallowed around the lump in her throat at the look in his eyes. They were dark with arousal and she unconsciously trailed her gaze over his body. She watched him through the mirror, saw him clench his fists, his hesitation, before he slid his hands around her waist to press to her stomach. They stood there like that for a while, even the baby was still in the moment. When he pulled away, Ada held her breath until he walked away and shut the door behind him.

Another night found them sprawled on opposite end a of the couch, Ada's feet resting in Erik's lap while he rubbed them for her. She was reading names from a new baby names book. Erik has hated all the names in the other one. Emma and Jessica wasn't gonna cut it for his baby girl.

"What about Zuri?"

Erik made a face. "Absolutely not." Ada looked at him questioningly before rolling her eyes.

"Amara?"

"Eh."

"Amaya?" No response. "Makena?" Again no response. She looked up from the book. "Look. We need a name." Erik continues rubbing her feet, staring intensely at her white toes. "I can pick a name without you if you don't want to do this?"

Erik kissed his teeth. "Just keep going. I'll know it when I hear it."

Ada sighed. "Nala?" "Too Lion King." She snorted.

"I didn't even think about that. Nia?"

"Nah."

"Nuru? It means filled with light." She thought maybe telling him the meanings would stir something in him.

He hummed, a good sign, so Ada used the colorful tabs she had to mark the name and page.

As she flipped through the pages, another name caught her eye. "Hey what about Sade? It means 'honor bestows a crown'? I think it's appropriate since her daddy's a prince."

Erik looked at her finally. "Sade," he tested. "Sade Isabella? For your grandma?"

Tears came to her eyes. Ada wished her grandmother could meet her. "Yeah that sounds great."

"Ada," Erik's voice woke her up out of her sleep and she opened bleary eyes to peer at him.

"Wha izit 'rik?" She mumbled. It had been a long day at the daycare and at thirty-nine weeks, Ada was getting too big to be running after all the kids there.

"Come on, we're gonna do a test drive to the hospital."

Ada thought she might have misheard him before grabbing her phone from the nightstand. "Nigga. It's two thirty in the morning. Now isn't the time to be having drills and shit."

Erik kissed his teeth. He was gonna stop that shit before she gave him something to kiss his teeth over. "The baby could come at any moment. Better for us to practice than to be struggling to figure out the best route the day of." Ada whined. "Come on Ada." He pulled her to sit up, tugging her coat around her, pulling her arms through the sleeves. By the time he kneeled to put her shoes on, Ada was more awake and rubbing her eyes to clear the fog.

Erik stopped to pick up a bag tucked into the front hall closet. "What's in the bag?"

"It's your hospital bag." Ada looked at the bag. It was a black duffle, bulging with things. She knew his worried ass overpacked but she was too tired to fight him on it. She hadn't started to pack for herself so she might as well use his bag as a blueprint. She'd sift through it and eliminate the unnecessary items later.

He helped her gingerly down the stairs—the elevator moved too slow for his liking—before he tucked her carefully into the passenger seat of a car she'd never seen before. She looked at him questioningly.

Erik looked shy. "I can't carry a car seat or stroller in the Porsche." Ada turned to look into the back and sure enough there was a backward facing car seat in the center seat—the safest place according to his best friend, Google—and a mirror attached to the headrest. She knew if she looked in the trunk, she'd find a matching stroller.

Ada turned back to him. "Is this what you do when I'm at work? When did you get this?"

Erik began driving, navigating the larger vehicle just as well as he did his old car. "I picked it out and had someone pick it up when it was tricked out the way I wanted. They dropped it off here for me." Ada just shook her head and settled in for the fifteen minute drive to hospital.

When they got back home, Ada felt almost dead on her feet, grateful Erik had pulled this shit on a weekend. She watched him start settling in on the couch but it didn't feel right to her. She wanted him next to her in bed. She was tired of fighting herself when she just wanted to be up under him.

"You need something baby girl?"

"You." He blinked a few times. "I mean. The couch isn't that comfortable. You could come in the bed if you want." She was nervous.

Erik surprised her. After staring at her for a few beats too long, he rose to his feet, gesturing for her to proceed him in the room. The room felt smaller with him in it and she absently noted they still had their respective sides of the bed. Erik's eyes stayed on hers as he undressed, pulling his jacket off and his shirt over his head in a way that was so familiar to Ada. She started to follow suit, unzipping her coat and stepping out of her shoes. She was already in her pajamas, not having gotten properly dressed for their excursion. Erik maintained eye contact as he untied the string of his sweatpants and dropping them. Ada quickly averted her eyes, worried that he going without draws again.

She snuck a peek. Boxer briefs. Not that much better.

Ada crawled under the sheets laying on her back and feeling Erik do the same. The air was heavy between them. This was not what she pictured when she invited him in her bed. Okay. She wasn't ready for what she'd imagined but she still expected more than the uncomfortable feeling swirling in the air.

"Come here," Erik's voice rumbled next to her before he shifted her into a position they were familiar with. He was the big spoon, the lines of his body pressed into her back, his arm under her head and his other arm sling across her hips. Ada was content, beginning to drift off when she felt his calloused hand shove her sleep shirt up. He settled his hand on the bare skin of her belly, rubbing. Sade nudged back before settling on the side where her daddy's hand was. Ada fell into a deep sleep after that.

Some Jewelry at Kensington Palace

(When the rumors/gossip/leaks about Meghan wanting an emerald tiara for her wedding started spreading, I immediately thought she wanted these because they're the only emeralds Meghan would have known about. I do personally believe that once Meghan started boinking Harry, he gave her a private tour of KP - the public rooms such as everything you've seen here and the private spaces accessible only by members of the royal family and authorized staff.

I don't think Meghan would have known about the Grenville Emerald Eugenie wore for her wedding because the tiara wasn't on anyone's radar until October 2018. It most definitely wasn't being talked about in the run-up to the Sussex wedding.)

A collar and a brooch. I feel like this might be Garter insignia, but I'm really not sure.
