I wish so badly that skypeia wasn't a nauseatingly racist narrative that purports the colonizer's fantasy whitewashed narrative of how they saved "savages" (THEY ACTUALLY USE THAT WORD!!!!!!!!) from themselves. The part where they bring CURES to disease instead of, you know, the intentional spread of it as biological warfare that actually happened, gets me so fucking mad every time. Or when the poor poor guilty old colonizer president feels so bad and tries to give some land back and they refuse because they're too mad. Something that has never ever happened anywhere ever. ITS UNBELIEVABLY CARTOONISHLY RACIST THE WHOLE THING.

Just like the million other offensive caricatures in one piece, they do not end up being as two dimensional as they originally appear, and they and their feelings are taken seriously by the narrative. An effective story that tugs on your heartstrings in it's culmination is eventually crafted, BUT HE HAS TO MAKE YOU SO SO MAD AND UNCOMFORTABLE FIRST. EVERY TIME. WHY.

Today I'm publishing a cartoon of Keir Starmer!

I used to do a survey on a cartoon.

Keir walks near parliament and rejoices.

Does not make sense in my brain that Feyre doesn't know how to read or pronounce a bunch of different words and the book is written in fairly descriptive first person perspective.

Sounds a tad elitist, but congnitive dissonance is all it is. I understand that just because I can say the word "position" doesn't mean I can attach the sounds to the letters of the word when I read it on a page. But it's weird to be reading words like "crimson" from her perspective when she probably couldn't read it off a page herself. Also, she's lived in poverty for so long; does she realistically know a lot of the words she uses in her perspective? This comes up in the same chapter. "I searched for the word in the half-forgotten part of my mind. Mural. That's what it was (114)." But she's got no trouble meandering through the labyrinths of books both in front of her and on the mezzanine dangling above. Seems like Maas picks and chooses when Feyre does and doesn't know words she may (or may not) have heard and/or known in her small time as a wealthy kid. And "meandering" is a word you pick up almost exclusively by reading!! Who SAYS that in common speech??

It's just an aspect of Feyre's character that makes me think it'd be better if this was written in third person pov. Anyhoo. I keep writing this to avoid reading. Back to trucking through.

got hit by an oracle's beam at 6am again. in cdth era Declan meets Ashley 1 again except he's transitioned and they have this. deeply sweet moment of friendship where he's like oh hey man sorry this apartment is so gross my parents kicked me out. & Declan smiles in that sad way he does and doesn't say anything else but he puts his head on ash's lap & they both eat horrible microwave lasagna together before declan goes like oh yeah that totally inconspicuous rucksack i brought. it's got my old clothes in there they don't fit me and matthew's already too big for them so why don't you see if anything works for you? if not you can like, depop it or something. haha. and ash smiles in that same sad way declan does and they both watch house refurbishment youtube videos on declan's phone until the morning. when declan's gone ash opens the bag and the first thing is a grossly fancy pair of cufflinks with a little note that just says thank you. something about non romantic affection and love in declan's life.

before the campaign proper starts (& the children's adventure drops) i want to try to articulate what i like so much abt the wwwo previews and i really think it's just. the amount of care and thoughtfulness put into the pcs as children? the attention to detail and the realism of it too like everythign so far has rung so true to how i know/have seen/remember children thinking like. suvi wiping her sniffly nose on her moms clothing, staying quiet bc she wants to be good even though she's scared. ame's blanket nest and reminder in childish handwriting to be kind and patterned dishes. eursulon, wide-eyed and not understanding half of what he's hearing, reaching out and giving away his snack. it's so warm and i already care them so bad. fucking Ough
