James nodded curtly agreement and thanks. He couldn’t deny that he’d made quite the spectacle when they’d first met...but not without due shame. He didn’t want to be reminded of it, yet still found gentility enough to recognize what this man had done for him and what he owed as a result. 

“Not as such, no,” he replied. “And I hope never to be again. I think the only thing for it is to keep me as far from any and all libation as possible.”

He’d come so far from finding him on those docks, dirtied seemingly head to toe in mud with the stench of liquor on his persons. To see him now dressed in a more dignified fashion without the addition of a foul stench was almost something out of a dream.

          How he would’ve coped with this situation if not for her was beyond him, a terrifying prospect. He doubted there would have been much of a future for him at all if they had not crossed paths when they did. Now, he found himself at the mercy of this sorcery to which there seemed to be no answer and only she to keep him grounded.  

         It wasn’t a fair thing to ask of anyone, but he did not have to ask her. She was here of her own free will, generous in her love and strength despite how woefully undeserving he was. What had he to offer her? Only moments of terror such as these, surely. 

         Even as his mind raced and went in and out of total consciousness he wondered, formed apologies that he might try to offer when he was coherent. 

         For now, he was selfish. He held fast to her arms and kept his gaze fixed on hers. If he had nothing else, he had his love for her, deep and true and the purest he had ever felt.

         “If-if it happens...” he managed, though the excruciating plain flickered and flared through his muscles to the point where it became hard to speak. “...y-you must run. Hide. You must-ah...! L-leave me be, Mina. I will return...in time.”

          Tamina held his face in her hands, stroking her thumbs gently, carefully, over his cheeks. Above all, she refused to break his gaze in fear of the dire potential consequences if she did. It would be a lie to say she did not in some ways fear the transformation itself for her own sake, but what concerned her more was the terrifying effect it had upon him. She knew enough of the pain to ache deeply at the thought of him facing it time and time again.

          It was this fact that motivated her most toward their goal of finding a cure.

          Softly, the princess brushed her sailor’s hair from his face, unwilling to show him how she crumbled at the sight of his pleading.

"Look at me. Just look at me and stay awake. Can you do that?"

It’s difficult to do as she asks. The pull of the magic is great, as it always is, and he can feel himself beginning to be swallowed by the metaphorical tide. But her voice…! Ever the anchor, her voice. He holds off longer yet. 

“Yes…yes, I will. Please, keep me as I am!” 

It’s a lot to ask of her, but if anyone is capable it is she. The transformations are always hard and leave him out of commission for a day or two afterward. He had hoped they would only get easier with time, but that hasn’t been the case. He doesn’t want to feel the agony again.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Slow down! You don't want to get even more hurt, do you?"

"Tell me where it hurts."

"Whoa, that's purple... It looks like your shoulder is dislocated."

"Oh my god. Are you okay?"

"You're bleeding... You're bleeding bad..."

"This is gonna hurt..."

"Holy crap! I may not know much about human anatomy, but legs don't bend that way!"

"It's all swollen up..."

"You have a black eye. Were you fighting with someone?"

"Okay... Okay, hospital. Hospital, now."

"I think you have a concussion."

"Calm down! Calm down! Your ankle is sprained, okay?"

"Here, lean on me."

"I'm gonna need more band-aids..."

"What the hell happened to you!?"

"Here, I need to clean you up. This might sting a bit..."

"We need to get the bullet out..."

"Oh my god, you've been shot!"

"Did... did you get beat up!?"

"Just hold on. You're gonna be fine..."

"Look out for that car!"

"Wake up! Oh god, please wake up!"

"You're alive! Oh, thank god!"

"I'm no doctor, but you should have that looked at. It's bleeding a lot..."

"What is that? Are there bandages under your shirt?"

"Why is your arm wrapped up like that? And are those blood stains!?"

"You must have hit the back of your head really hard."

"Look at me. Just look at me and stay awake. Can you do that?"

He doesn’t consider himself a religious man, not particularly. It was never a huge focus of his childhood aside from the few obligatory church services and such and he doesn’t find himself turning to a need for benevolent aid that often. Yet, times being what they are...

James turns when he hears her voice, as it was the last thing he expected in such a quiet place, especially at this hour. 

“Alas, I fail to find an immediate answer. Yes, I’d like my solitude...no, I wouldn’t wish you away if it meant the difference of life and death. You see my conundrum, perhaps?” 

“Forgive me…I thought the temple would be empty at this hour.” She preferred this late hour for prayer, time alone with your thoughts is rare when you bare the weight of a crown. And it’s the veil of darkness that keeps any from recognizing their queen.

                          ”Should I leave?”

Were it the silhouette of anyone else lighting candles at the alter she would dismiss them but she knows those slouching shoulders and disturbing him is the last thing she wants to do.

just to clarify, this is more of an indefinite semi hiatus than me leaving him for good. I’m still going to continue the threads I have, I’m still open for plotting and new partners etc, but Norry’s gonna be pretty far down on the priority chain since I have other things that require my time and attention. there’s not much to do on him anyway as he has only a handful of drafts, 3-4 threads as it is and replies aren’t coming as fast due to school starting up and all (understandable, my work load has definitely increased). so yeah absolutely still send me things and plot with me and everything, I’m still here just less so. 

;;so I’ve decided I’m gonna put Norrington back to tentative sleep for now. I haven’t gotten a whole lot of interest or attention on this blog and I have two others that are currently fairly popular and require a lot of my attention. He’ll still be here, I can’t bring myself to delete him as I’ve had him for an upwards of 3 years now. I will probably continue threads here and there (as I have all of like one or two) and I’m open for plotting on him if anyone’s interested but for the most part he’s going to be inactive. Makes me sad as I love him as a character, but I just don’t have the time to put in to get people interested in him. These days I do better with characters that can garner popularity quickly and easily. With like 2-3 drafts and no replies, there’s not much I can do with Norrington right now. Either his time will come again or it’s already passed. And, honestly, I’d rather use the writing time I do have on a character that people are actively interested in.
