After a long shift at work one of your colleagues had the idea to go to a bar. You donât often go to bars with all of them, but today you all finally had time. A lot has changed for you since you started working as a police officer at the Mid-Wilshire Station. You found a lot of friends there and you love your job.
âIâm gonna get a drink, would any of you like one too?â You asked the others.
âCould you get me another one of these.â Lucy said, pointing at her drink and you nodded.
âWhat about you Tim?â
âIâm good, thanks.â He said, smiling at you. When the others said they didnât need anything, you made your way over to the bar. While you were waiting in line for drinks, a cute guy stood next to you and waited as well. Somehow he looked familiar to you, but you werenât sure where you had seen him before. He smiled at you and then you suddenly remembered him. You could never forget that smile.
âYouâre firefighter Buckley, right?â You asked and he chuckled.
âYeah, thatâs me. Wait and you are officer L/n.â
âYou can call me y/n.â You said with a smile.
âOnly if you call me Buck because thatâs what everyone calls me.â
âOkay, deal.â You said and he had that sweet smile again. You talked for a few more minutes until your drinks were ready.
âSee you around, Buck.â
âSee you and be safe.â He said and watched as you walked back to your table. You handed Lucy her drink and sat down next to Tim again.
âWho was this guy?â Tim asked curious.
âOh, just a friend.â You answered and Tim nodded. You and Tim have been friends and partners for a long time and over time he has become very protective over you. He always knows when something is wrong and is there for you as best as he can.
The next day you kept thinking about your meeting with Buck. He was so sweet and you hope to see him again. You didnât think youâd see him again soon because just when you had an emergency call and had to call the ambulance, it was the 118 that showed up. You couldnât really talk to him, but it was great to see each other again.
When you were grocery shopping and walking through the halls someone said your name and when you turned around you saw that it was Buck.
âHey Buck.â You greeted him with a smile.
âHey, good to see you.â
âI was wondering if you would like to have a coffee with me sometime?â He suddenly asked.
âYeah, sure. How about I give you my phone number.â He nodded and pulled out his phone. You tipped in your number and he called you, so you had his number too.
Two days passed until you got a message from Buck. He asked if you were free tomorrow and you agreed to meet after work. At work Tim noticed that you were different, happier and more excited. He didnât ask you about it, but it made him happy to see you happy.
The coffee date with Buck went very well. You talked about everything that came to your mind. You both really enjoyed it and had a great time. He asked you out on a date and that date turned into another date and suddenly you were in a happy relationship.
You had been dating for about three months now. Usually you were at his house or yours or sometimes you were going out. Favorite things to do together include cooking, watching movies, going to the beach and you enjoying it when he tells you a story from work and then you tell him some stories too. Youâre very happy together and try to spend as much time together as possible, even if it can be a bit difficult due to your work shifts. Some people donât think a relationship between a police officer and a firefighter is a good idea, so you decided to keep the relationship a secret for a while, which wasnât always easy especially if you would see him on a call.
Today you have been called into a very difficult situation. You called for backup, but things quickly escalated, and you injured your left arm. Luckily, Officer Harper, Officer Nolan and Officer Bradford arrived at the right time to arrest the person. While Harper and Nolan arrested the person, Tim ran over to you and called an ambulance.
âTim, Iâm aright, itâs just a small scratch.â
âLetâs wait and see what the medics say, okay?â Tim said and put some pressure on the wound to stop the bleeding. A few minutes later you could already hear the ambulance driving near you. When the doors opened you could see that it was Buck. As soon as he saw you, he ran towards you.
âBabe, are you okay? What happened?â He asked, looking at your arm. When you looked over, you saw that Tim had a confused look on his face.
âIâm okay, itâs just a small scratch.â You said again.
âLetâs go to the truck and Iâll take a look at it.â Buck said, placed his hand on your back and guided you to the truck. Then he removed the cloth from your wound and gently tried to stop the bleeding. You took a deep breath.
âIâm sorry, babe.â He looked into your eyes and tried to smile at you. Then he looked back at the wound.
âThe cut isnât too deep, so itâs okay if I just bandage it.â He said and you nodded. Buck gently put the bandage over your wound and then gave you a kiss on the cheek.
âThank you, honey.â
âAnytime.â He said, then Buck tucked a piece of hair behind your ear and gently pulled you into a passionate kiss. When you broke the kiss, you reached for his hand and smiled at each other.
âI have to go back to work.â You said after a few seconds, even though you didnât want to say goodbye.
âMe too.â He said, looking over his shoulder to see his friends looking at you both with smiles.
âI guess they all know now.â
âThey definitely do.â You said with chuckle. You noticed how happy they all were and then looked over at Tim who was as happy as they were.
âI think I have to go now. See you later.â Buck said and gave you a quick hug.
âSee you.â You said, waving at him as you walked away. As you walked to your car, Tim was still standing next to yours and looked at you with a grin.
âNow I know why youâve been so happy lately.â
âYeah, Buck makes me really happy.â You confirmed and opened the car door.
You were glad that Tim and Buckâs colleagues now found out about your relationship, but you definitely want to meet them soon on a better occasion. Buck has told you a lot about them, so youâre very excited to meet them.

The Better, Not So Hidden Half
Part 2 of The Better, Hidden Half
Pairing: Tim Bradford x fem!wife!reader
Summary: After Tim decided he didn't want to keep you hidden any longer, you meet the rest of his friends (colleagues, as he prefers), but not the way he planned.
Warnings: depiction of minor injuries (Tim), fluff, grumpy!Tim, Smitty, mentions of drugging

When Tim was infected by an unknown biological weapon, he told you that he wanted to stop keeping you separate from the rest of his life. Youâre his better half, and he cares deeply about you and your safety, but that doesnât mean you should be his hidden half. During his short stay in the hospital, Wade introduced you to Lucy Chen, Timâs rookie, and John Nolan. Since then, however, Tim hasnât done proper introductions or made any real changes. He has started wearing his wedding ring to work, though, rather than leaving it on a chain around your neck. Baby steps, maybe, but itâs progress.
Your phone rings while Tim is at work, and your breaths grow shallow when you see Wadeâs name on the screen. The last time something happened to Tim, Angela called you; any time you see Wade Grey, Angela Lopez, or Talia Bishopâs names appear on your phone, your heart drops in fear for your husband.
âHey, Wade,â you answer softly.
âCan you please come talk some sense into your husband?â he asks.
Wade's tone and accompanying sigh are all you need to hear to know heâs tired. Sirens have surrounded you all day, so youâre not surprised that something happened.
âAbout what?â you reply.
âSorry for the surprise call,â he adds, âI know those can be concerning, so Iâll go ahead and tell you that Tim was in a minor accident, but heâs refusing to get looked at.â
âShocking,â you joke. âIâll be there soon. How is he?â
Wade begins to answer, but you hear Tim yell, âIf I need a break, I will take one!â in the background.
âSounds about the same as usual,â you say and answer your question. âSee you in a few.â
âThank you. Youâre the best honorary cop Iâve got.â
âFlattery will get you everywhere, Sergeant Grey.â
When you walk into the Mid-Wilshire Station, Tim and Wade are nowhere to be seen. You see Angela waiting nearby, and she rushes to hug you after you wave.
âAre you finally here to meet everyone? Since someone decided that he needed to talk to you alone to heal last time?â she asks playfully.
âIâm here because Tim is injured and stubborn,â you answer.
âAnd heâll still be injured and stubborn after you meet the boots who canât stop talking about you.â
âIs he okay?â you whisper.
âHeâs fine. Barely injured, I promise.â
You nod and thank her before she leads you toward a small crowd of officers. Talia says hello, and the three in long sleeves stand up straighter when they see you.
âMrs. Bradford, nice to see you again,â Lucy greets.
âYou too, Officer Chen,â you reply.
âLucy, please.â
âYouâve met Lucy and Nolan â however brief Tim kept it. And this is my rookie, Jackson West,â Angela introduces.
âNice to meet you,â you offer with your handshake.
âSo, you married Bradford?â he asks. âWhy?â
You chuckle at the question but canât answer your cliched answer of because I love him, and heâs really just a big softie under the sarcastic eye rolls and grumpy yelling before Nolan asks another question.
âAt the hospital, you said less than five words to Tim, and he listened. No complaining, no hateful looks, just immediately obeyed. How do you do that?â Nolan inquires.
âWait â how did you meet?â Jackson adds. âLetâs be chronological.â
Nolan nods in agreement, and you prepare to answer.
âThen I want to know your first thought of Tim. Before you met, just saw each other, whatever⌠what did you see that drew you in?â Lucy asks.
Angela and Bishop smile as your eyes bounce between the rookies and their never-ending questions. You canât answer one before the next one is asked, and though you donât feel the same, you can understand why Tim didnât want you to meet them all at once.
âNo!â Lucy exclaims. âWhere did Tim propose?â
âThe place where they met,â Talia answers.
Nolan turns quickly to yell, âYou knew Tim was married! Why didnât you mention her?â
âSheâs not my wife,â Talia replies sarcastically. âNot my story to tell.â
âI would have talked about her because sheâs my best friend,â Angela interjects. âBut Tim threatened me.â
âSorry, Mrs. Bradford,â Jackson says. âWeâre just excited and shocked and have so many questions.â
âMrs. Bradford?â a passing officer asks. âYouâre too young to be Mom Bradford, and youâre not his sisterâŚâ
âIâm Timâs wife,â you finish.
âThis is Smitty,â Angela tells you.
She winks quickly, and you nod in understanding. Youâve heard plenty of stories about Smitty, and more than enough complaints when youâre alone with Tim. He seems unique, to put it lightly (and kinder than Tim does).
âYou married Tim Bradford? Was he by any chance in possession of narcotics or mind-altering drugs when you met? Because itâs pretty easy to convince a woman to do something these days, just a little powder in an uncovered drink, you know,â Smitty continues.
âSmitty, have you drugged a woman before?â Nolan asks. His suspicion is evident in how he asks and the narrowing of his eyes.
âWell, Officer Smitty,â you begin. You nod at Angela, and her smile grows when she realizes you plan to play along.
Tim stands with a quiet grunt of pain. He stretches to the side to fight the growing stiffness and sees Lucy talking to a group of people. Smitty approaches the side, and Nolan steps back to reveal the focus of all of the attention. Tim doesnât think twice and races out of Wadeâs office to save you from the boots.
You address Smitty but donât say anything more before Tim wraps his hand around your arm while the other grips your hip and pulls you backward. Tim moves you away from Angela and ignores the protests that follow your sudden departure. You donât fight him as he leads you into Wadeâs office. Wade looks up and mouths a relieved thank you.
âTim, as much as I love meeting the people you pretend not to care about, would you please stop getting hurt and giving me an excuse to drop by unannounced?â you ask.
âI didnât get hurt,â Tim argues.
His hands are still on you, so you turn in his hold to look at him. Several scrapes litter his left cheek, and you run a gentle finger under them. You can see that his shoulders are tense but you're grateful that his injuries seem to be limited to some stiffness and scrapes.
âWhat did Wade tell you?â Tim whispers.
âThat you were being stubborn and not listening,â Wade mumbles behind you. âIâm surprised she believed me.â
Tim keeps his eyes on you but doesnât comment further on his injuries or the rookies you just met. He looks down, and you follow his eyes to his hands. His left hand is wrapped tightly with gauze and bandages as he slides his right hand into his pocket.
âHad to take this off,â he tells you.
You extend your hand to accept his wedding ring and curl your fingers around it. After unhooking your necklace chain, you slide his ring on and keep it safe against your chest. Tim nods once itâs secure with you and pulls you to sit beside him. You lay a hand against his right cheek and smile as he leans against your hand. He leans in and kisses you quickly before glancing at Wade to ensure he isnât watching.
âHeâs seen us kiss before,â you remind Tim.
âAnd I will never let you forget it,â Wade agrees, focusing on the paperwork before him.
âNo mind-altering drugs required,â Tim says with a small smile.
âNow I understand why you didnât want me to meet Smitty.â
âIÂ warned you.â
âLuckily, Angela introduced me to the rookies first, and I invited them over for dinner on Sunday. Wade, you and Luna are welcome to come, too, if youâd like,â you say.
Tim groans as Wade promises to pass the invitation on to Luna. You sit back carefully as Tim leans against you. Heâs grumpy about your new connection with the boots but loves you. Tim meant it when he said he didnât want to keep you hidden and risk wasting his life by separating from everything else that matters to him.
âLucy wonât shut up,â he realizes with a dramatic sigh.
âYeah, because Iâm sure you carry half of the conversation as it is,â you tease. âDonât forget how well I know you, Bradford.â
âAs long as you donât forget that I donât like these people, Bradford,â Tim counters.
âYou let Angela come over all the time. And donât give me the whole âshe scares meâ thing; you love her.â
Tim moves closer to you to whisper, âI love you more.â
âThen go get a full physical examination. Make sure all the handsomeness is still put together like itâs supposed to be.â
âI donât need to.â
âThen maybe you donât love me like you claim to. Thatâs why you leave your ring with me, right? Easier to bring women in when no one knows youâre married.â
Wade fails to hide a laugh before he covers it with a fake cough. Tim shakes his head but kisses you again before standing. You follow him to the door and thank Wade for the call. Tim waves everyone over, and Lucy beats the rest of them by a solid three seconds.
âHi again,â she tells you.
âIâll go see the medic if you rescind the dinner offer,â Tim tells you.
âYouâll go see the medic either way, so no,â you reply.
âWeâve decided a better way to ask questions, and weâll give you time to breathe in the future,â Jackson says. âSorry about that.â
âItâs okay, Jackson. I understand the excitement; not the shock because, I mean, look at him," you wave toward Tim and continue, "but itâs not every day that you meet Officer Grumpyâs secret wife.â
âDid you just gesture to me like Iâm a game show prize?â Tim murmurs.
âTim and I will be happy to answer all your questions at dinner. It was very nice to meet all of you, and if Smitty asks again, I was absolutely drugged.â
Tim drags you away once again, and Angela only hears him ask, âOfficer Grumpy?â before the door closes behind you both.
You turn and place a hand under Timâs chin. One touch, a smile, and a kiss turn Tim back into your loving husband. He didnât realize that keeping you separate from his work life gave you a unique power over him because heâs never had to hide his love for you or the physical affection heâs grown to crave.
âBe careful,â you request softly. âAnd call me if they find any other injuries.â
âYes, maâam,â Tim answers.
âDonât,â you warn.
âYou kissed me first.â
âThanks for letting me be part of your life, Tim.â He nods and kisses you slowly, but you push him away to warn him, âAsk Angela to tell you about Smitty before he says anything about our relationship.â
âYou talked to Smitty, too? Maybe I should start leaving you at home again.â
âI love you,â you call over your shoulder.
âI love you,â Tim replies.
He walks back into the station with two things on his mind: learning what Smitty thinks about you and Tim that was worth a warning and getting home to you. Your touch, kiss, and the soft return of his ring will always be the best part of Timâs day, and even though he wears his ring more often now, you still pull him in because he needs you more than heâs ever needed the ring.

I was just rewatching dosed (im rewatching random eps) and well the intro of og tk in this ep made me think a lot of fake tk (lol not sorry) and the fact that they are both presented as "enemies" of the 118, or well not liked by bucks family... and i think you already talked about this (and tim said it was by chance because lucys actress couldnt come back-) but it made me think of how conscious the writers are in terms of they put buck once again with someone who hurt his family... idk it made me think, like the way bobby was instantly wary of her to say the least... like its lit more or less the same formula (obv different cause one of them is lit racist and mysoginist) but in the sense that they are presented as enemies then they are more or less accepted as time pass but never part of the family. I guess my question is do you see a patern? And do you see how this could parallel to bt break up?
I'm sorry, you're asking me if I see the bucktaylor parallels??? I've been screaming about them since Tommy was reintroduced. I have a set about it. People hate me for it. The bt 2.0 breakup paralleling bt 1.0 would be done for me specifically. It would be the show's gift to me. It would be Tim Minear looking me in the eye and telling me he's sorry for this hell I'm in. Sorry, I'm passionate about this particular angle lol. (Tommy actually parallels all of Buck's love interests, sets on that here)
Anyway... Do I see how this could parallel the bt 2.0 breakup? Yes, considering the Taylor breakup is about Taylor proving she has not changed while involved with the original thing that makes us, the audience, dislike her aka using Buck's family to get ahead, the fact that Gerrard is back and Tommy was complicit to his behavior, could very much be the thing that breaks them, because, well, it's right there, and to show Tommy's true colors while Buck struggles with the fact that he's not sure if he wanted to hurt him or not, is a very simple way to make that happen. Tommy is introduced as an antagonist of sorts and the thing that makes us dislike him is because he is complicit to the toxicity of the 118 at the time, it would really easy to have him tell Buck to just enjoy it and go along with it. I've been toying with the idea of Tommy saying something like that while maybe adding "it's not like Bobby is coming back" since the whole thing with family and the jealousy came up more than once, but I don't know how that would work. I think a core part of the way the bucktaylor breakup happens is the way that Taylor is hurting someone he loves, he could live with her hurting him, with her not fully getting him, with them hurting each other, he can't live with her hurting his family, and that could come into play again with Tommy, I feel like Buck is willing to let things go if they only affect him, but if he finds out something about his family being hurt, he won't stand by it.

Happy Thur lovely fandom :) So sorry for being a day late. Kinda a miracle took this long for life to knock me off course tbh. Entering our final 3 eps of this rewatch. Itâs the final Countdown ha This is a glorious episode top to bottom. This season really finishes out very strong. Let us begin.
5x20 S.T.R
We start off in the most domestic fluffy way. I was giddy af when this premiered. Took me awhile to get through this ep cause I rewound this part so much. They have this flirty dance as they prep for breakfast together. Tim checking her out as he places the pancake down. Not subtle in the least looking down at her chest. I love that he can shamelessly check her out now and does so. Lucy is soaking it in. I mean if Tim Bradford was openly checking me out Iâd feel empowered too.
The confident way Lucy leans extra hard into Tim as her response. *fans self* Needing zero space between them if she can help it. She is eyeing those gorgeous lips of his as well. Doesnât take much to ignite Tim around her. Moth to flame this man. Lucy pressing into him like she didnât just have him this morning in the shower. Gah I love it so very much. Our horny little ship never getting enough of each other. Iâm a puddle. Look at her seducing him with just her body language and gaze my goodness.
Timâs soft reply of 'Hey.â Smitten Kitten Tim reporting for duty. Getting what she is throwing down for him. *sigh* These idiots in love. I love them so much. Happiness once again looking so damn good on them. Theyâre both beaming in this scene. Look at the smiles on these two. Said it a few times. Forever love how one kiss is never enough. Doesnât take much to get them going and wanting extra kisses. Tim pulling on her for more as he goes in for that second kiss.
Also Tim cooking breakfast for Lucy is so adorable I cannot. This is canon now and I love it. So nice she has someone to cook for her now unlike when she was with the clown. And for Tim to have someone who enjoys breakfast. Which he didn't have with Ashley. Tamara breaks up their love fest. Parting the Red Sea that is Chenford on her way to the fridge. Tim's reaction is so funny. Just throwing his hands up in the air all defeated.
At first heâs annoyed then Tamara says her line. Then heâs like sheâs not wrong... LOL Oh Eric youâre the king of expressions sir. Letâs just take a second to to soak this moment in. Theyâre making breakfast together, canât keep their hands off one another, his hands on her waist pulling her close, they canât even keep it to one kiss. Itâs glorious on so many levels. Not squeeing to death at all.
Lucy and Tim still gravitate toward each other despite Tamara's interruption. Lucy noting she thought she was sleeping in today? Ha Thought she had the morning to herself with Tim. Tamara explaining she was but the smell of pancakes woke her up. We see Tim perk up so excited to make her pancakes. He truly does love having her around it's adorable. Happy it was his cooking that awoke her. Such a dad excited she wants his cooking. I cannot.
He is so happy to make her some pancakes. What a man. I LOVE the way Lucy is looking at him when Tamara says she wants 3. He looks back at her and she cutely raises her eye brows. Just as smitten with this man as he is with her. Theyâre so adorable. They hear the doorbell ring and Tim freezes and says âshoot.â all adorable like. Telling Lucy Isabel texted him. Her name getting stuck in his throat a little. That he totally forgot to tell her he invited her over here. Lucy stumbles and is in shock but recovers pretty nicely if you ask me.
Tim being adorable saying he is sorry. That he was gonna tell her when she got out of the shower. But then he got in the showerâŚoh my lord. Legit announcing they had shower sex this morning. Am I dreaming? Tim Bradford saying out loud they had little morning delight in the shower. I can't believe my ears and I'm ship drunk. S5 continues to feel like a fever dream.
Not only that but talking about their sex like in front of their pseudo daughter LOL Lucy playfully hits Tim but is still beaming at him. The shower sex was so good and distracting he forgot his ex-wife was coming over. I'm reeling. God I love this season so very much. Itâs insane the glorious goodies that we got. Also must point out the necklace anytime I see it. I spy with my little eye Lucyâs Valentineâs Day gift that never leaves her neck. *internal screaming*
Lucy is so uncomfortable once Isabel is inside poor thing. Trying to be a good last second hostess. Asking if sheâd like something? Isabel says coffee. Tim guides Isabel to the living room. Tamara speed walks to Lucy asking if this is the ex-wife? Lucy scolding her for being so loud I'm dying. This is hysterical.
This is such a mother/daughter moment I love it. Lucy agreeing it is odd he invited her over. Tamara's protective instinct kicking in saying sheâs gonna do some research. Lucy doesnât want this whatsoever. Scolding her once again but the train has left the station haha I love Tamara so much. I hope we get lots of her in S6.
Lucy joins Tim and Isabel in the living room. I have to say before I start. Iâm so distracted by Timâs hands in this scene. Mmm doing things to me. I know I have a one track mind when it comes to him. But look at the man... Anyways she brings up 8 years ago she was UC in the Teska family. Became a mentor to the bossâs daughter Dara. Love the little check in's they do with each other BTW as she speaks.
It's subtle their eye contact but that's their specialty. Silent communication at it's finest. Isabel tells them she got close to Dara. In that weird way you do when youâre pretending to be someone else. They have no idea what thatâs likeâŚ*cough double down cough* I do love the way Lucyâs eyes dart between Tim and Isabel.
So after Frank her dad was arrested she scattered and left that identity behind. Hadnât heard from Dara in 8 years. Until now. She had answering service for her old covers. That she left a message for her. It was a distress call and sounds like people are chasing her. She came to them because sheâs out of cover. Canât seem to find her through other channels. Tim says they can go to station get warrant for her phone. See if they can't find her that way.
Once theyâre at the station Tim and Isabel are en route to Grey. Smitty welcomes him back and is awkward af with Isabel. Because well Smitty. She asks if he's back from vacation? He says no a shooting. That he just got cleared from it. Says heâs getting there but Lucy keeps trying to get him to meditate. This would be adorable to see btw. I love all of Melissaâs tea ceremonyâs and meditation videos. Tim is more the kinda to take a deep breathe and go for a walk and chill like he did in 3x11 with Barnes. Their versions of meditation are vastly different LOL
I love the way Harper walks over to check in on Lucy. Forever be in awe of how they started to where they are now. Nyla being apart of Lucyâs BAMF journey still makes me so happy. Harper asking her if sheâs ok with Tim working this case? Lucy letting her know itâs not a big dealâŚthat heâs over her. Nyla shooting back she knows that. Sheâs making sure Lucy does. Love her looking out for Lucy. Doesn't want her to get riled up over nothing.
Clearly Harper has seen the way Tim beams around her. Knows that man is gone for her. Lucy couldnât be cuter telling her to stop it with a playful hit. Tamara comes up ruining her 'ok vibe' with her deep dive news. Harperâs face is hilarious. She like Eric has fantastic expressions. They make me laugh so much during this scene. Tamara divulging everything sheâs found. Lucy trying to spin it into something positive. That it sounds like sheâs got her life together.
Tamara is instigating saying 'Or she wants Tim to see sheâs doing well.' Why are you doing this to your mother? Lmao. She loves you and houses you little lady haha I do love Lucy calling herself his new girlfriend in her explanation. Yeah you are. Tamara continuing her instigating mentioning how Tim said she looked good. Also tacking on 'Keep your enemies closer...'Lucy is so exasperated with her Iâm dying. Pulling that look from her husbands book.
Isabel asks how long Tim and Lucy have been dating? He says a few months. Can tell he doesnât want to delve too much into this. Diverts it back to her. Asking if sheâs seeing someone? Letting him know yes and no. That he set the bar really high. He sure did and you threw it away madam. Didn't know what she had till it was gone. I know some saw this as her trying to get him back. I didn't see it that way at all. This SL wasn't built on that. This ep had her show back up for a couple reasons. One we will see later on with Lucy but this one here was more about closure IMO. The last time they spoke or the last time we saw them really speak was back in 1x12.
A conversation where she basically blamed him partly for their marriage falling apart and her addiction. That he would be a constant reminder of it. Tim didn't walk away from that convo feeling great about himself. It inflicted some deep wounds for him actually. Those wounds showed themselves in his relationship with Ashley. By not rocking the boat and being less rigid. Him smile is a little uncomfortable and strained. I I think because one it's opening up wounds he's worked really hard to close. Two he's not totally sure he believes her words but he will take them anyways. Some closure is better than none at all.
Tim and Isabel are waiting outside a motel. They tracked Dara down here. Isabel stayed here once in hiding with her. They talk about her UC life a bit. Tim telling her how he held his breath every time she went on a long term assignment. Isabel noting even when she came back she wasnât fully there. Even though she wanted to be.
Tim pulls his gaze from her. Itâs like re-opening a wound for him once again. One thatâs been healed over for while. He doesnât want to pick at it any further. Tim tells her since sheâs not a cop anymore she needs backup. Lucy is on her way to them now. Isabel canât help but note he's dating another UC.
The sweet smile when he thinks about her has me squeeing. Nothing makes him melt faster than talking about her. Telling Isabel âBut Lucy is different.â Yeah she is. I love him being able to see that. He looks so damn in love as he speaks. Just giddy and gushing. Also him once again being protective over his relationship with Lucy. It makes me so happy. He couldnât be more in love with her if tried.
The scene in the truck is fantastic. First off Lucy looks amazing. Second I adore her absolute confidence about Tim. Isabel thinking itâs about Tim she wants to pick her brain. I love her saying 'No she has Tim all figured out.' I mean she does. Has owned the book of Tim for years now. No one knows that man better than she does.
Isabel may have years on her. Knowing him longer but Lucy has her beat in knowing him better. She donât need no cheat codes for this man haha This scene is really cute. Theyâre both laughing and having a good time. Tim is confused as hell trying to hear their convo LOL So annoyed and frustrated he canât hear what theyâre talking about.
Lucy gets serious and asks her about UC. If it was worth it for her? Despite all the bad things that happened? I love how honest Isabel is. I also love how this wasnât a oooh his ex-wife comes back and causes havoc thing. So grateful they went the mature healthy route with this. Was so very lovely to see her back and healthy. Isabel coming back added to the elephant in the room. Lucy being a UC while being with Tim. Like I mentioned earlier she came back for a couple reasons. This is the other one.
Lucy getting an honest opinion about this career she's considering. Isabel is completely honest with her. Saying it took a lot from her. Her husband, her job and her self respect. But she canât blame all that on being a UC. That she had stuff in her past that added to it. Adding in sounds like Lucy has much healthier coping mechanisms than she did. Lucy is seeking out some answers because sheâs having doubts. No doubts that she can do this. Lucy is very aware she is good at it.
What sheâs weighing is the cost now. Hereâs my take on a Lucy with UC. Take it or leave it and I'll delve into this more at the end as well. Pre-Tim UC made ton of sense for her. Hell even Pre-Tamara as well. Now she has this little patch work family she loves. Thatâs what sheâs leaving behind now with these OPâs. Leaving Tim behind. I think she struggling with the idea of doing so in the future. Isabelâs answer was open and honest. IF sheâs prepared to make those sacrifices. IF. I don't know that she is. Not anymore. Falling in love with Tim has changed everything.
Speaking of our boy. Tim ends up calling Lucy asking if the wire is fixed? Poor love is feeling so anxious right now. He needs to know itâs working. Lucy laughs with Isabel and says a wire mustâve disconnected. Mmhmm⌠Does a sound check for him so he can see itâs ok. They see Dara coming back and Lucy calls him âBabe.â again and Iâm floating. Itâs such a simple word and makes me all giddy. I need more of this in S6. I really do.
We rejoin them post-op coming home. Love her asking if he wants a beer? Such a domestic moment. We got to start with one and end with one. Fantastic. Lucy mentions 'She seems good. Happy.' Tim asking Isabel? Lucy just replies âHmm.â Tim saying yeah she deserves it. Seems like he's talking about more than just Isabel. I do love the look in his face when she says this. That empathy of hers shining through.
One of reasons he loves this woman. Genuinely being happy Isabel is ok. There is also a lot behind the second look he gives her before he sits down. How heâs staring at Lucy before he lands on the couch seems loaded. Isabel coming back has stirred up a lot for him. That lingering look he gives her. It's almost got a sad haunted look to it.
Tim has been through so much all he wants is to be happy with Lucy. Saw a sad tag about his expression. Saying how he looks like he doesnât deserve to be happy. This broke my damn heart. Falls in love again for the first time since Isabel and sheâs on the same path she was. He looks so tired and defeated by the time he sits on the couch. I wanna hug him.
We get a cute little moment before this scene turns serious. Lucy mentioning it was nice to get to know the person behind all his stories. Tim asking if thatâs why they muted themselves? Ha A little serious but mostly joking. Lucy saying it was just to talk trash about him of course hehe Tim couldnât be cuter with his smile and saying sarcastically âFunny.â That Lucy smile we all know and love.
The way this man looks at her my goodness. Also letâs not skate passed the sexy stubble adorning his beautiful jawline. Or the fact that theyâre drinking and chatting at the end of their day. So married. Making my heart swell. The sassing and teasing never gets old. Itâs the best between them. Just hits differently now theyâre together too.
Lucy looks at him and takes the plunge into what she wants to talk about. Asking if she can share something vulnerable with him? Gah I love her sharing in the first place. Tim puts down his beer and gives her his full attention. Saying of course she can. I love this first shot of them. Her beautiful view as the backdrop to start this conversation.
Lucy starting off with telling him she loves working undercover. Tim doing his Lucy smile for her. Knowing how much she truly does. Even though it kills him. Lucy goes on to say sheâs never gone as deep as Isabel. Doing a 6 month run or a year long. Tim thinking he has this pegged. Voicing she's worried she won't be able to handle it?
This next line kills me. Makes me a little emotional. Because Lucy is so emotional bringing this up. Her worry for him so very evident and deep. Tears brimming in her eyes. The way she touches his shoulder gently. Voicing her vulnerability and fear about him. Itâs the way she rubs her hand up and down his shoulder not making eye contact till she speaks her worry.
Ripping my heart right out. Tim putting on a brave face for her and reaches out for her hand. Embracing her warm touch. Covering her hand with his. Telling her heâll be fine. Ugh but you wonât my love. You really wonât. Even though he knows it is different this time. Because it is. Logically he knows this. Doesnât mean heâs going to worry any less.
Hell it might even be more worry this go around because of the PTSD. Next ep is proof of that. Lucy not fully believing him says âYeah.â Tim is refusing to be in the way of her UC aspirations. Reassuring her he will be fine. I love the way he pulls her into his arms for a snuggle. Telling her to 'Come here.'
Her leg over his thigh. *squee* Iâm dying. Getting real close to snuggle in for this moment. Tim looks like he goes for her hand but lands on her knee. Lucy looks damn near ready to cry. Tim rubbing her knee/thigh soothingly. My heart. Trying to find some solace in holding her in his arms. Look at his face. This man is anything but fine. Heâs so very worried.
Holding her tight to him. Taking comfort in the fact sheâs with him now. Savoring they're together right now. They really need to have more conversations about this. Honest ones. Lucy doesnât want to leave him but he also isnât telling her to stay. Just lying liars who lie right now. We all know she would have just as much trouble if it was Tim.
This sweet cuddling is beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time. I am excited we finally got some good couch snuggling. Tim looks absolutely terrified heâs going to lose her though. Not only lose her but to same thing he lost Isabel too. Ugh it hurts so good everyone.
The way Tim slightly shakes his head trying to kick loose his tormented thoughts. *heart clutch* His little smile though is everything. Knowing she so worth going through this again even if scares him to death. Lucy looking gutted about the thought of leaving him behind UC. Knowing he is anything but ok with this scenario. I believe she is having some doubts about being a long term UC now. I think she was hoping Tim wouldâve had a different answer. Maybe given her an out about it. I think sheâs being torn between what she thinks she should be and what she now wants.
She's been on on the UC path so long it scares her to get off it. I totally get it I wanted to be a dog trainer forever. When first moved to CO it didnât happen. It was my goal moving there but it didn't happen. So I got a different job settled into that for awhile. Then when things came up for dog trainer while at this other job. I felt the need to still do it even though I was fine at my current job. Why? Because I had been on that path forever thought I had to because of that. But I wanted someone to tell me it was ok not to if I didn't want to anymore.
I think Lucy wants Tim to tell her not to so she has an out and can pursue something else. You can be amazing at something and not have it be your career path. Also her sticking with it might be little bit of that old self doubt creeping back in. Lucy thinking Iâm good at UC can I be this good at anything else? Doubting she will be good at anything other than UC. I mean she doubted herself in 5x19 with the test. She has grown but those doubts can still creep back in. *sigh* These two. Both still holding back. Needing to have more convos about this for sure in s6. But what a damn good ep.

Aaron being Angelaâs aide is hilarious. Also her getting the guy to confess cause sheâs so pregnant and uncomfortable is hilarious.
Isabel and Lucy being bad asses on their OP was fun to watch.

Planning | Tim Bradford | The Rookie
Act One | Chapter 16 | Chapter 17 | Chapter 18 | Chapter 19 | Chapter 20 | Chapter 21 | Chapter 22 | Chapter 23 | Chapter 24 | Chapter 25 | Chapter 26 | Chapter 27 | Chapter 28
(Y/N) looked around the room, taking in the worried faces of her colleagues turned friends who had come at Timâs request. Angela sat talking next to John, talking to both him and Nyla who stood next to the sofa. Lucy was sitting on the armchair with West leaning against the arm. Grey wasnât there, (Y/N) knew that he couldn't be, but it hurt slightly to exclude the man, especially after all he had done for her.
She could feel her heart tug slightly at the sentiment that they had all agreed to come to help, even though it was a war Roaslind Dyer had decided to wage against the entire LAPD, he focus was on the officer in the Mid-Wilshire department, or at least they would be the start.
None of them knew what Tim had figured, but at his request, they had all decided to come of their own volition, to help both of the Bradfordâs. People she had thought would brush her off and not accept her had all come with the intention to aid her the best she could.
Leaning against the doorway, (Y/N) watched as each and every one of her friends cast their eyes on Tim as he cleared his throat to bring their attention to him. âYou all know why I asked you to come, mostly anywaysâŚâ
âWhat do you mean, âmostlyâ?â Nyla said, leaning forward in an almost defensive stance.
âWhat he means is that we have a development in the Dyer case.â (Y/N) stepped forward nudging Kojo away from her feet as she moved. She took a moment, as his hand wrapped around her own before she continued speaking. âWe canât operate at the station anymore.â
âWhy not?â John asked gently, prompting either one of the Bradfords to continue.
Tim spoke up again. âBefore you say that, we need to know if you're in or out. Because once we tell you, there is no going back, you will be liable for any and all actions. The LAPD wonât cover you.â
âThe Hell you got into Bradford?â Nyla asked before taking a breath to stop a chain of expletives from falling from her tongue. âI mean Iâm in but what the Hell is going on?â
Tim just nodded for a moment at Nylaâs words as the other cops in the room began to nod and verbalise their agreement. Angela stood as she agreed, wrapping (Y/N) in a hug as she whispered, âIâd follow you to the end of the earth. Thatâs what best friends are for.â
As Angela pulled away, she took (Y/N)âs hand from Tim, ignoring his small sound of offensive he let out as she dragged her back to the sofa. (Y/N) scoffed in amusement as Angela wedged her between her and John.
âSo youâre all okay with this?â Tim clarified.
âYes,â Nyla huffed, âNow get on with it. We donât have all day, you know?â
Tim nodded as he put his hands in his hoodieâs pockets. â(Y/N) and I came to a realisation earlier today after she got back from the prison. It never made sense why (Y/N) was targeted by her, it wasnât as if Dyer had a specific M.O which she fit, and itâs not like it was with LucyâŚâ He let his words trail off as he watched Chenâs reaction before continuing. âShe had no reason except that she seemed like an easy target.â
âTarget for what?â West asked.
âTo get into the LAPD hivemind.â (Y/N) said, taking over from her husband. âShe already had informants but they were all reluctant or vulnerable in some way. Sullivan was near retirement age, Armstrong had been made. Our guess is that she wanted to turn me into her newest pawn.â
â(Y/N), your old partner said this was about Tim. Then it was about you. They were trying to make us chase our tails.â Nyla spoke up again, moving closer to where the others were sitting. âAlthough, this still doesn't tell us what she intends to do.â
âThe LAPD humiliated her, all of us in this room humiliated her. Someone like Rosalind Dyer isnât the type just to stand back and take something like that. She needs to prove herself time and time again. She doesnât like to lose, so she changed the game. She isnât going after individuals anymore, sheâs coming after all of us, the entire LAPD. And weâre just the warm-up round.â
â-----
It was near three am by the time Nyla, Angela and the others finally left. (Y/N) closed the door behind them, making sure to both lock and deadbolt the door shut. She rested her weight against the door, trying to push down the wave of emotion crashing into her. She closed her eyes, choosing to listen to the clinking of empty beer bottles as Tim tidied away the mess left over.
Taking a deep breath, (Y/N) pushed herself off the door and moved towards the bedroom with Kojo trailing sleepily behind her. It didnât take long before she heard Tim shut off the lights to the rest of the room and shuffle towards the bedroom himself.
Neither of them spoke for a while, both enjoying the comfortable silence as they prepared for bed. They moved in sync, Tim tossing (Y/N) one of his tees and a pair of joggers to sleep in whilst she placed their phones on charge and set their alarms for the morning.
It was only when they had made their way into bed, (Y/N) leaning on Timâs chest with Kojo snoring happily at their feet, did Tim finally break the silence.
âThank you.â he murmured, barely above a whisper
(Y/N) looked at him perplexed as she responded with a tone that was just as soft. âFor what?â
âFor trusting me, all of us. I know it must have been hard.â
âNot as hard as it was to shut you out.â (Y/N) shuffled down in the sheets as she gathered her thoughts. âDo you think that this will work? Our plan, I mean.â
âI don't know.â Tim kissed (Y/N)âs head, âbut if it doesnât, we will try something else. We wonât let her win, I wonât let her win, baby. I promise you that.â

What are you doing? I'm keeping you company. You don't have to do that. I know.
| ANATOMY OF A SCENE - CHENFORD EDITION 5.05 - The Fugitive
This scene has such a nostalgic feel⌠With the references to Tim's old injury and the subtle Day of Death undertones, it brings us right back to Tim and Lucy's old dynamic. It also grants them a much needed moment of truce amidst their current awkwardness⌠a respite from all the confusion⌠Not everything is fixed - there are too many remaining unsaid things⌠But the reassurance that their bond is still intact is what matters the most in that instant.
Throughout the episode, we got glimpses of how worried Lucy was. But once she is made aware of Tim's laparoscopy surgery, she goes almost frantic. There's this very sweet moment when she enters his hospital room, where she takes a breath and tries to rein it in so as not to overwhelm him. Despite her effort, she can't quite completely hide how beside herself she is. His little hey is the softest thing. So is his little smile when he's trying to reassure her that he's going to be fine⌠and trying to explain why he asked to keep her in the dark. She looks so hurt for a second. And it's understandable with how things have been between them lately. I could see her mind making up scenarios as to why, wondering if she may have ruined their relationship.
The fact that he simply didn't want to worry her is actually extremely mindful - and misguided, because she was always going to anyway. And it's not that he didn't trust her to handle his surgery - rather, it was an act of love. Just like Grey didn't want to worry Luna after his shooting⌠The way she immediately teases him about this and his deflection are just so reminiscent of Day of Death - when he tried to deny staying all night at her bedside. Just like then, Lucy can see through him. For the first time since Vegas, they can allow themselves to simply bask in each other's presence, without feeling self-conscious about it. Their little smiles are everything. They look so at peace here. Like they're finally home. Tim taking time to praise her is also a nice touch⌠It's the fact that, despite his surgery, he still knew how she did at the station that says everything about his feelings.
But some things have changed and Lucy is the one who addresses the elephant in the room : Ashley's absence. Her wariness is comprehensible after feeling like a third wheel earlier. Though I get why Tim lies to her here. Given the fact that he was unceremoniously dumped when he was barely conscious, there's no way he had time to fully process or even digest what has happened. And since he's making headway with Lucy, I can also understand him not wanting to do anything that could rock the boat. Like talking about his breakup would. In that moment, it's not about Ashley. It's about him and Lucy. The fact that her response is to simply shrug it off and stay by his side just shows that she was merely trying not to overstep. The way she takes time to subtly check his monitor, making sure everything is alright is so inherently her. As is the fact that she intends on staying to keep him company. This is so natural to her that his bewilderment surprises her⌠and unknowingly to her, that's what Tim needed to hear. He needed to be reminded that there's someone who isn't going to bail on him when things get tough. She never did before and regardless of their current awkwardness, she's still going to stay by his side. His little smile at the end conveys everything⌠like how much this means to him⌠and how much he's fallen for her⌠Let's not even start on the intensity of Lucy's gaze. Officer Bradford should be getting out of intensive care today. If you have some time after your shift, I'm sure he won't appreciate it. Well, turns out he does⌠when it's Lucy.

whatâs your favorite thing about chenford, and Lucy and tim seperately?
Hi anon!
So I think my answer for this is actually variations of the same thing for all 3 questions. My favorite thing about Lucy and Tim as individuals is how deeply they care. As a couple, itâs how deeply they care about each other.Â
Iâm gonna be a lil bit lazy and pull a few snippets I've written in fic rather than write you the dissertation I had half drafted, since fic is basically my little love letters to these two idiots anyway:
My Favorite Thing(s) About Lucy:
âIâm not talking about who you are on the surface, Lucy. Look, Iâm not going to say your bubbliness and endless optimism and all-around pep hasnât grown on me. It has. âI love what you choose to put out into the world. But thatâs not what Iâm talking about. Iâm talking about your heart. Your capacity for kindness. Your willingness to offer people grace. How much you care about people and how hard you try to always do the right thing. Your idealism. The fact that you can see good in someone [even after theyâve hurt you].â
Yeah I know, that's more that 1 thing for Lucy, but I feel like she's earned it. đ
My Favorite Thing About Tim:
âThe way Tim loves â itâs hard to describe, but itâs like he loves with his entire being. Itâs one of the reasons heâs so prickly about letting people get close to him â as soon as he starts to care, it's like he canât turn it off. He may as well be handing you his heart on a platter while praying that, this time, youâre someone who cares enough to protect it.â
~*~
Itâs almost impossible to believe sheâd once thought this man cold and unfeeling. It couldnât be further from the truth â he feels things so deeply, cares so damn much that heâs had to build walls to survive.
My Favorite Thing(s) About Chenford:
For me, the deep care between is something that has just leapt off the screen from the beginning...Â
Itâs how protective they are of each other.
Itâs the faith they have in each other.Â
Itâs having each otherâs backs.Â
Itâs how much they can convey in a single look.Â
Thanks for the ask anon! â¤ď¸

Please please read this and give it some love but I had an inkling of this feeling but never mentioned it cause I thought it was absurd.
Basically its a tweet of a reddit post (inception ik) basically of how Tim is basically rewriting the characters back to the way they were.
More below đđž
Everyone's been mentioning how the characters have been more in character and the actors are happy and that makes sense.
He's been making them more in character than they ever were.
And with the Buddie situation (yes not everything is about them but i am a buddie fan who happened to find and grow to love this show because of it) it makes the most sense.
Now that Oliver mentioned the love story and everyone assumed it was the shooting and being in live it made the most sense.
Who else was he going to be falling in love woth at the time? It surely wasn't Taylor. Their romantic relationship was always doomed to fail and it was a great friendship they had (ehhh sideye for Bobby situation and Jonah eventually) that lasted if they weren't too persnally involved in each others lives.
She'd have been a perfect friend for him to gossip about the drama at the 118 (not work cause you know she'd make a story). That relationship wasn't going to work. He's too honest and she's too opportunisic.
If it hadn't been Jonah it'd be something else and he'd feel the same sense of betrayal (also Buck kissing Lucy was betrayal but that also felt a lil like assult cause she got him reallllly drunk and if the roles were reversed people wouldn't be that enthusiastic about it).
The only other love story that's been written logically as a will they won't they tragic and emotionally complex story is Buck and Eddie's.
Season 2 he replaced his love intrest! Like come on!
But in all seriousness, the Ana breakup and ll the vague dollow your heart is basically being rehashed.
I remember someone mentioning that Marisol is just another Ana (whoever you are if you see this send me hit I'll put it in here) and that's actually true.
Yay Marisol no last name haters your time has arrived cause it's official she's done!
There's no worry because we're getting a conclusion on the fact that was supposed to happen years ago.
She's not a permanent structure.
This storyline can go two ways.
One Buddie confirmed season 8.
Or two, Eddie realizes what his family could look like and its a single parent home with a support system from work (and Buck but we're gonna just gloss over that for now).
Meta linked above I just talked about Eddie and its coming to fruition (hire me abc im getting better at screenwriting!).
For the first one it's juicy storytelling.
For the other it makes sense as development for Eddie becoming comfortable with himself apart from his identity as a husband/widower, son, Catholic, and father.
He'll learn to bebhimself which he hadn't had the opportunity to do as he had fell into adulthood with his kid and then added on having a child with a disability that needs a lot of monetary support he ended up losing the chance to figure out who he is without all of that.
Even if it's not romantic (đ) it's great for him to realize he doesn't really need to be with anyone or fulfill a role he's not ready or willing to fill due to duty.
He can just be a father and work it iut that way.
Chris only wants his dad happy and I sense he knows his dad isn't happy at times or even worse he's not happy but is pretending so that his dad can be happy as he feels he has to give him that space/approval.
Chris is getting a storyline and he's always been observant so he'll most likely either explode in his feelings and tell his dad or tell him in a misunderstanding (he is getting to be a moody teen after all it's not going to be an adult reaction).
He's been close to death, heard his dad lose it and loat his mom. He's more mature than people give him credit for but the story hadn't included him much recently so we'll just have to see.

top five moments of 6x02 âĄ
OMG I CAN ONLY PICK FIVE?? OK LETâS GO:
lie detector (timâs ily) â I think this moment is my favourite part of the episode by far, because first off you have the question about the bugs which was SOOOO cute and so encapsulating of chenfordâs relationship that it had me giggling at my tv and twirling my hair lol. but then lucy takes the time to seek out confirmation of his love out of her own will, not because she needed to be proven right but because she wanted to hear it 𼚠and he immediately says yes! he loves her! we finally get to hear it and the lie detector shows itâs true and itâs just so gratifying for chenford fans to finally get this
cop cutie! cute and on duty! â GUYS I KNOW ITâS CORNY BUT HATERS WILL HATE, DADDY COP IS A BANGER!! this was so funny and such an earwormâ and to those saying they thought it was an old episode when it opened on that scene, lemme just say SAME lolâ but then to up the ante by pulling out the choir as if literally singing for and rejoicing the 100th episode was just so perfect and classic rookie: a little hokey but well executed and fun and all around heartfelt. 10/10 I need it on spotify right now.
if I ainât got you by alicia keys (lucyâs ily) â okay Iâm scared some of you chenford girlies are going to tar and feather me for not putting this at number 1 or 2 but HEAR ME OUT: Iâve expressed my problems about this temporary argument solution!! I think this whole scene is so gorgeous for so so so many reasons: lucy and tim dancing as a couple for the first time, the matching outfits, the kiss, ugh all PERFECT I love my babies đĽšâ¤ď¸ that being said, I donât like how so much of the resolution/peace between them relied on tim being completely in the wrong when I feel like itâs a more nuanced issue than that and denies lucy any opportunity to critically reflect on her own feelings about this. and also, it does seem weird to me that she wouldnât have said âI love youâ back to tim when he first said it?? they smile at each other but then theyâre back to looking awkwardly from afar at the wedding (prior to this scene of course) and so Iâm a bit uneasy at the implication (which the writers did not necessarily add on purpose) that lucyâs ily depended on him admitting he was wrong in any way. but idk maybe Iâm just being too nitpicky here, I still ADOREEE THIS SCENE FOREVER AND EVER I want it on my grave k thanks
tim down on one knee â need I say more?? this imagery of him on his knee with the ring staring up at lucy was a glimpse at chenfordâs future and it was such cute teasing, god I love writers and showrunners when they add messy fun little teaser moments like this! plus tim totally kicked ass, all covered in blood and ready to pass out, and ah, I do always say the best kind of lust is bloodlust đ
bailan wedding vows â I actually cannot believe the day has come where a bailan moment is in my top 5 episode moments but these wedding vows showed me how the writers are finally able to articulate what works about them as a couple!! with someone as impressive and as versatile and skilled as bailey, I think literally any other man would feel threatened or emasculated, but nolan really is just Some Guyâ˘ď¸ whoâs really into her and obsessed with her and is very sturdy ground for her to come home to. I wish we dove more into her past as a survivor of abuse because I feel like that previous situation informs so much of why she loves john even though, letâs be real: sheâs eons above his league holy shit itâs not even funny how out of his league she is. but also she could never be with anyone else! she really just loves him and they have such a nice soft relationship which the wedding really sold me on. I liked it a lot even though I had my qualms about her and him as individuals and together.
honourable mention to wade and luna because I love them so much yâall they are adorable!! anyways, hereâs my list and lmk if you agree

Hereâs a preview of the next chapter of my Chenford Fanfiction story. Enjoy!
With that Angela hung up the phone. âWesley!â she hollered as loud as she dared to without waking up their toddler. âCome to the kitchen!â
He jogged in a minute later. âWhatâs wrong? They didnât have the right milk?â
âNo. The milk is fine,â she said pointing to the counter.
Wesley saw the grocery bags and started to load them all into the fridge. âSo? Whatâs going on?â
âTim is in love.â
âTim? Tim Bradford? He broke up with that Barbie girl a few months ago, right? So, this is someone new?â
âYeah. Itâs the craziest story. He told me the beginning of the story when he was here on Christmas evening, but I think you were giving Jack a bath at the time. Anyway, he was in Denver with his sister and her kids, right? They ended up getting snowed in on Christmas Eve, and he met a woman at the airport. She lives here in LA, and theyâve seen each other every day since! You should have heard him on the phone. Heâs totally smitten!â She whacked him on the chest to emphasize her point.
âTim? Smitten?â he said, pulling the corners of his mouth into a frown and squinting his eyes. âWow. I canât imagine what that looks like.â
âI know, right? I told her that he has to bring her to the party on New Yearâs Eve, so youâll get to meet her then.â Then she curled up her lips into a devious smile. âBut I am having lunch with her tomorrow, and Tim has no clue!â She cackled at the thought of it.
âWait, youâre having lunch with her tomorrow? How?â
âThatâs the best part of the story. He went all the way to Denver to meet a detective from North Hollywood!â Her mouth was agape in amazement at the coincidence of it all. âAnd Sergeant Caradine has been trying to recruit her to join our group with the other detectives retiring. He told me today that weâre meeting her for lunch tomorrow. Crazy, right?â Angela was blown away with how it was all coming together.
âHold on a minute. A detective at North Hollywood? Whatâs her name?â
âLucy Chen.â
âWHAT??!!â he said, his jaw practically on the floor. âLucy Chen?â he repeated.
âYeah. Why?â
âI know Lucy Chen. We met soon after I started with the DA. She used to date Chris Sanford from my office. I just helped her out yesterday with deal for someone who had information about some mall shooting.â
Now it was Angelaâs turn to be shocked. âWhat? And youâve been holding out on me?â
âFor the record, I had no idea I was holding out on you.â He took a breath and said, âShe has long, dark, wavy hair and brown eyes with a petite build. Maybe sheâs part Asian based on her name? Sheâs very kind and compassionate. She seems to care a lot about the people who would otherwise be labeled âfelons.â We seem to have some shared beliefs about prosecuting the poor, underserved, and racial minorities. Sheâs very insightful and a deep thinker. And she always seems cheerful.â
âAnd she likes Tim?â Angela said, taking in all the information. âHuh.â

Tim thinks Chris proposed and avoids Lucy but then they get trapped together and are forced to talk
I hope you like this! đ
Tim thinks Chris proposed and avoids Lucy but then they get trapped together and are forced to talk
But as long as you are with me There's no place I'd rather be
Tim watches Lucy and Chris from across the station. They are talking and are huddled together. When they break apart, Lucy has a small smile on her face and Timâs stomach drops a little.
Sheâs happy with Chris.
Itâs not that he doesnât want her to be happy because quite honestly that is all he wants. Itâs just Chris isnât right for her. Heâs boorish and rude, heâs self centered and he really doesnât care about anyone but himself.
Tim sees it in the way he looks at Lucy, and acts around her. But Lucy doesnât see it or she doesnât want to see it.
Tim watches as Chris squeezes her hand and then gives her a small kiss on the cheek and walks away. He watches Lucy now and she looks happy but also a little nervous. He wants to ask if sheâs okay but someone moves in his line of sight and when they move sheâs gone.
***
Tim doesnât see Lucy for the rest of the day, and by the time the day has ended heâs exhausted and just wants to go home. He is just going to locker room when he sees Chris again and Lucy, he sees Chris with one hand behind his back. Tim steps forward a little because he really hopes itâs not what he thinks it is.
He watches as Chris moves his mouth and Lucy stares at him, her cheeks a little red. Tim watches as Chris gets on one knee and heâs had enough.
He canât watch Lucy get engaged to Chris, not when he feels like his heart is about to break. Not when he has feelings for Lucy. And itâs not just feelings, he knows how he feels about her. Itâs more than just like. Heâs pretty sure heâs head over heels in love with her.
He turns around and heads somewhere else.. anywhere else that is not watching the woman he loves get engaged to another man.
***
Tim avoids Lucy for the next few days, whenever he sees her heading his way he turns around and goes in the opposite direction. And every time he does this his heart breaks a little when he sees her face and how confused she looks.
He knows he canât avoid her forever and maybe he should stop being like this but he canât help it. He hates the thought of Lucy marrying Chris, he hates himself for missing his chance and for being such a coward and not telling her how he felt.
âBradford!â Greyâs voice pulls him out of his thoughts and he looks up to see Grey and Lucy looking at him. Lucy is staring intently at him, and for once he canât read her face.
âYes sir?â
âYou and Chen are riding together today.â Grey says looking between them. Tim opens his mouth to protest or say something. But he feels Lucyâs eyes on him, burning through his skin and he nods.
âSure.â He says. âThatâs fine sir.â He hears Lucy scoff and Grey nods and walks away. Thereâs a long silence and then Lucy finally speaks, her voice flat and emotionless.
âI will get the shop ready.â She says and she walks off without another word.
Tim blows out a breath. This was going to be a long day.
They didnât talk for the first fifteen minutes, the silence and tension in the shop so thick Tim could cut it with a knife. He finally decides to end it, he misses her after all.
âSo how are you?â He asks. Lucy turns to face him her face impassive.
âHow am I? Thatâs what you ask after spending the last few days avoiding me?â She asks him stiffly, almost incredulously. âSeriously you are such an ass Tim.â
âLucy Iââ he starts but a call over the radio cuts him off. He glances over at Lucy who is staring at the radio and then sheâs typing in the address of the call. He swallows down everything he wants to say. And drives towards the scene, he would make it right with Lucy later.
They get to the call and itâs a hotel, they look at each other and then go inside. The manager meets them telling them thereâs a disturbance on the 12th floor, it turns out it was just a small party of teenagers. An after a dance party that went a little wrong. They arrest the teenagers and send them down with the other officers who arrived on scene.
âStupid kids.â Tim grumbles as he looks around the room at the mess they had made. There were broken bottles everywhere. And it smells like a giant bubble gum bubble exploded in the room.
Lucy doesnât say anything but just shakes her head and walks out of the room. Tim blows out a breath.
He needs to fix this.
They ride down in the elevator together, silently. They are just about to hit the 8th floor when the elevator comes to a shuddering halt. Tim looks over at Lucy who is frowning slightly.
âUm.â Says Tim. He pushes the buttons but the elevator doesnât move. The lights flicker a little but otherwise itâs still.
âWe are stuck.â Lucy says. âGreat.â Tim turns to look at her, and then leans against the wall.
âYeah. It seems like it.â Says Tim. âCrazy right?â
âHow so?â Lucy asks a little bit angrily. âI know you probably donât want to be stuck with me.â
âNo. I donât want to be stuck at all.â Tim says. âBut here we are.â Lucy turns to face him and crosses her arms. She studies him for a minute and he wonders if Chris knows how lucky he is to be with Lucy. Probably not. He wasnât the brightest bulb in the shed.
âWhy have you been avoiding me Tim? Did you really mean it when you said it was time to move on? You donât want anything to do with me anymore?â She asks. And she sounds calm, calmer than he feels inside but he also knows sheâs a damn that is about to break.
âNo. Lucy.â Tim says fiercely. âThatâs not it at all. Of course I want to be around you.â
âThen what is it? Why are you avoiding me?â She sounds like sheâs about to cry and his clenches because this is his fault.
âI saw Chris proposing to you.â He says and her eyes widened. âI want you to be happy, so I am happy for you Lucy. I just thoughtââ He trails off a little when he sees Lucy just staring at him and fuck did he mess this up even more?
âI said no.â She says after a minute and she takes a step towards him. âHe did it in the middle of the station Tim. It was embarrassing. I donât know why he decided to do it. I havenât even told him I love him yet. Heââ She takes another step forward and Timâs heart is pounding fast. She said no. She said no.
âHeâs not who I thought he was and heâs notââ Her eyes are on him and she swallows and steps forward again. Sheâs so close if he wanted to he could reach out and grab her and pull her to him. But he doesnât. Not yet.
âHeâs not what?â Tim asks. Lucy looks up at him, her brown eyes vulnerable. She chews on her lip and then reaches out for him.
He wraps her up in his arms as soon as sheâs close enough, and she fits perfectly in his arms. âYou were avoiding me because you though I was engaged to Chris?â She asks quietly into his chest. âTim why didnât you just ask me? I was going crazy because I needed someone to talk to and the one person I trust the most wasââ She trails off and Tim feels a surge of guilt rise up in him. She had needed him and he had let her down.
âIâm so sorry Lucy. I guess I was heartbroken and a little jealous andââ Lucy cuts him off by pressing her lips to his. Itâs soft at first and then itâs frantic as he walks her backwards and pushes her up against the back of the elevator. In the back of his mind he knows thereâs cameras in here. But he really canât seem to care when Lucy is pressed up against him and kissing him.
They break apart both gasping for air and he rests his forehead against hers.
âTim.â She breathes.
âHmmm.â He hums. Heâs perfectly content right here with Lucy pressed against him, her warm breath on his skin.
âWe should call for help.â She says laughing a little. Oh right. They were still stuck in an elevator.
He reluctantly steps away from her and presses the emergency button. A man answers and tells him they are getting help. Tim thanks him and then turns back to Lucy, she is still backed against the wall and thereâs a few loose hairs escaping from her bun.
âYou never answered my question.â He says stepping so she is in his arms again. She rests her chin on his chest and looks up.
âWhat question?â
âYou said Chris was just notâŚhe just not what?â Tim asks. Lucy swallows and her eyes go down and then back up again.
âYou.â She whispers. âHeâs just not you.â Tim swallows too and kisses her forehead softly.
âSo itâs safe to say you want this?â He asks. âUs?â She chews on her bottom lip and nods.
âYes. I have for awhile and Iâm sorry. I didnât think you felt the same way.â She says and then she looks down as if sheâs ashamed. He lifts her chin back up, they have a lot to talk about but he wants to make something very clear to her.
âI do have the same feelings for you Luce. You have no idea, it killed me to see you with Chris but I wanted you to be happy andââ
âI know. And you are amazing for that Tim.â She says. Tim smiles and opens his mouth to say something else but the elevator starts moving. It stops and the doors open and they step off.
âWe are so sorry.â The manager says rushing up to them. âAre you okay?â Lucy looks up at Tim and grins.
They are more than okay.
They would talk later, they would have to talk to Grey about what this meant for their jobs. They would talk because thatâs what they did.
But for right nowâŚ
He taps her thigh once and she smiles at him as they exit the hotel. And her smile is almost as bright as the sun.
Right now they would finish their shift and then they would probably go and get something to eat and talk.
And that thought alone made him think everything was going to be better than okay. It was going to be great.

First Sentence Game
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, donât be shy and share anyway.
1. Steveâs boots crunched on rock and fresh, powdery snow as he stepped toward the edge of Vormirâs cliffs, feeling the Red Skullâs heavy presence at his back. He peered over the side, swallowing back bile and feeling grateful that the bottom of the seemingly endless chasm was too far down and obscured from view. The evidence of what lay at the bottom was all around him.
Playing For Keeps (Romanogers, 25K words, 12/13 chapters complete.)
2. Tim is lonely. Heâs lonely in a way that is visceral. In a way that makes his chest seize with it out of nowhere at the most random of times. Itâs not that heâs alone. Heâs used to that, has spent most of his life that way.
Never Before, and Ever Since (Chenford, 3K words)
3. Rain poured down in sheets, a battering curtain that blurred everything into a gray haze. Steve stood in the middle of it all, his clothes soaked through, forcing sharp, ragged breaths from his lungs. The world around him was silent, as if it was waiting for something to happen. And maybe it was. Maybe the universe knew what was coming, even if Steve didnât. He wiped a hand across his face, trying to clear his vision, but it didnât help. Everything was a blur â everything except her.
don't wanna know who we are without each other (Romanogers, 1K words)
4. Lucy knows Tim like the back of her hand. She knows how he likes his coffee (black, unless she has that pumpkin spice oat milk creamer that he adamantly pretends to hate but actually secretly loves.) She knows which shoe he puts on first and exactly how he sorts his paperwork and can tell what his mood is just by pulling up his most recent playlist. Lucy knows far more about Tim than she knows about anyone else, something that happens completely by accident when you spend 12 hours a day with someone for the better part of two years.
You Look Like You Love Me (Chenford, 2.3K words)
5. Tim is 15 minutes into his afternoon backyard play session with Kojo, picking up the slobber-covered tennis ball and tossing it toward the fence, when he gets the call. He hears his phone vibrate somewhere behind him and finds it on the patio table under the zip up hoodie heâd been wearing earlier. The screen is lit up with two missed calls and a slew of texts from Angela, and the hair on his arms stands on end. She never calls him on his day off unless something's wrong.
Between the Heavens and the Embers (Chenford, 4.4K words)
6. Lucy is reeling as the elevator stops on the garage parking level with a ding, the doors sliding open. Tim turns back to look at her one last time. âGood night.â His voice is soft, his smile tight. This is not what she expected when she stepped into that elevator with him, though maybe she should have. Of course she should have. Sheâs already laid into him once for making light of things, and though theyâd joked in the shop earlier that day â the first time in weeks that it felt like maybe, eventually, they would be ok â she knows Tim is taking her seriously. He may not be ready to really talk, but she knows he will be. She just has to be patient.
Could You Hold Me Without Any Talking? (Chenford, 1.9K words)
7. âWhat do you know about love languages?â Tim doesnât know what compels him to ask the question, to Thorsen of all people, and when he sees the look on his go-ferâs face he immediately regrets opening his big mouth. Aaron eyes Tim suspiciously, like heâs trying to figure out if thereâs a trick hidden somewhere in the seemingly innocent question. âIs this some kind of weird Tim Test?â
Birds of a Feather (Chenford, 3.7K words)
8. The golden-hour sun washes over Tim as he makes his way between the rows of gravestones, stopping at the granite marker with Jackson's name carved into the front. Fresh yellow and white daisies are propped against the headstone, and he knows by the loopy scrawl on the small card that theyâre from Lucy. He crouches down and brushes his fingers over her handwriting, his heart clenching in his chest.
I still love you, I promise (Chenford, 3.9K words)
9. Fresh coffee and a view of Steve Rogersâ perfectly sculpted ass were hardly the worst things Natasha had ever been subjected to first thing in the morning. In fact, they might have fallen pretty close to the top of her âBest Things to Happen, Everâ list. Which, in truth, started as a short list that had been quickly filled with Steve-related moments over the last several months.
All Caught Up In the Rush (Romanogers, 1.8K words)
10. Relief flooded Steveâs chest when he heard the keypad lock on the front door beep. Heâd lost Sam and Natasha on comms nearly 30 minutes earlier but was forced to stay put at the safe house, per mission protocol. He was up and out of his chair, barely giving them time to finish punching in the code, before he had the door open. The brief moment of relief was swiftly replaced with confusion and fear at the sight in front of him.
Pull me apart, I'll put you back together (Romanogers, 5K words)

Happy Wednesday fandom :) I love this episode. The aftermath of 5x01. I remember being so very excited every week cause I knew this was their season. I was so giddy for every era we were getting. This ep started the hurts so good/pining era. Nothing better than having your ship on the cusp and getting excited every ep to see what comes next. Return of Genny in this one yay missed her. Imma need more in s6. Looking at you writers.
5x02 Labor Day
We start the ep with a guilt ridden Lucy bringing Chris home to her apt. We all know at this point thatâs the reason theyâre still together. She nearly cheated on the man for loophole sex with her best friend. Not only that but almost partook while he was dying in the process. Still glad it didnât go down that way but guilt is the main factor here IMO. Lucy is getting him settled in when there a knock at the door. Love how this detective comes up and doesnât even care sheâs interrupted them.
Legend already haha Says her name is Detective Misha Porter. She teaches at the UC school In Sacramento. Lucy looks star struck saying she knows who she is. Mischa said sheâs been doing recruiting and her name keeps coming up. Of course it does Lucy is amazing. Saying sheâs worked several impressive OPs. That makes for an ideal candidate. That she is here to recruit her.
Lucy looks guilt ridden once again as she looks at stupid Chris. Just holding her back in so many ways itâs painful. She asks when classes start? Porter tells her next Monday. Saying itâs short notice but they had someone fall out. Sheâs sure her sergeant would approve it. Lucy lights up for first time at the mention of Tim. Knowing he would. He would do ANYTHING for her career. Something we will see of more at the end of this ep.
Lucy continues to hesitate. Porter sees this and says her classes will open up a ton of doors for her. Lucy tells her she knows. That Detective Harper has told her all about it. She hands her the folder. Saying every unit will want to poach her from patrol after this. Lucy tells her she will think about itâŚOh my girl he is not worth giving up UC for. That guilt truly dominating all her decisions.
She returns to Chris and even he tells her to go for it. We see the stress and continued weight of what happened control her. Saying no it can wait. Itâs almost like she needs someone else to push her in that direction...Also that someone else is the real reason she doesnât want to leave. *cough Tim cough*
We see Tim pull up to meet Genny. What is it about him driving that big truck that is so sexy? Mmm. Also in civies. Yum take me now sir. Haha Love that smile of his when he looks at the house. Thank you to your wife for having you do this. It sounds like Genny is having an argument on the phone. Tim asks if sheâs ok? She sweeps it under the rug like a classic Bradford.
She just needed his signature on some stuff before the open house. Tim looks so excited this is done and they can finally move on. Genny looks extra sad about it. Seems like it's more than just the house. Tim picks up on this and tells her not to get sad over this house LOL She should be excited theyâre gonna get half a mill each for this place. He then is sweet and tells her to call him if she needs anything. Such a good brother â¤ď¸
We return to Lucy at home with Chris. Heâs going over her packet saying she has to go. I will give him this and ONLY this. He isnât trying to keep her from UC school. Now he is trying to do the thing only Tim can. Which is talk her down and have her see some reason. Not gonna happen with you clown. You are not the one for that job. Lucy saying this is where she wants to be. Itâs not thoughâŚ
Lucy is still so angry as she talks about Rosalind. As she should be thatâs some serious PTSD for her. Once again not the guy to help her through this anxiety. The guilt is eating away at her and nothing Chris can say will help. Because he is part of that guilt. She almost cheated on him while Rosalind got to him. Thatâs whatâs really eating at her.
Another reason Iâm glad it didnât happened. Wouldâve tainted their time together. That wouldâve been a painful hill to get over. So no thank you. Iâll be forever grateful it unfolded the way that it did. She is putting off UC for one reason she canât tell Chris about. Would only add to never ending weight on her soul currently. I wanna hug her.
Oh how I love this scene with Angela. First off I adore him giving her half his burrito ha besties. Second she truly is a cheerleader for Chenford. Also for Timâs happiness. She just wants to see her grump of a friend be happy. Angela knows that answer is Lucy. Itâs been her forever. So she does a little poking around in this scene. Fishing to see what answers she can get. Starting off asking Tim the question thatâs been on her mind since Vegas. Even more so since Chris got attacked.
âHowâs Lucy?â We all know this question isnât as innocent as it appears. Because well Lopez. Heâs out of his damn mind if thinks she gonna let any of this go. I adore this friendship so very much. We notice how Tim likes to surround himself with strong women. His bestie is one of them. His wife another. Only ones he allows to talk to him this way. Heh. I love it. The teasing she does early on in this season is amazing. We were all rooting for her doing this.
Calling him out trying to get him to face his feelings. Do something about them. Angela is as perceptive as they come. And they are as blatantly obvious as two humans could be. Even Nolan knows LOL Tim starts off with a standard answer. Sheâs shaken but taking time off with Chris. Angela doesnât care about the Chris part. Asking why he was even there in the first place to find him? Her instigation makes me laugh so hard. Trying to get a real answer out of him. Tim deflecting as he attempts to hold it together for the moment. Just saying he was dropping her off after Vegas. Lies lies and more lies.
Angelaâs face is everything. Her 'Mmm-hmm' Calling Tim on his BS answer with her facial expression alone. This is so funny. Tim catching onto what she is throwing down. Asking what sheâs implying? When heâs knows EXACTLY what sheâs implying. Because babe you almost did what she is suggesting here. Youâre just upset cause you're getting caught in that suggestion. I love her throwing back âWhat do you think?â
She is trying so hard to get him to cop to what almost happened between them. Tim goes back to his platonic answer of âJust dropping her off. â Although his voice gets a little higher in pitch when he does,. Angelaâs second âMmm-hmm.â Is everything. She isnât buying what youâre selling Timothy. Not for one second. Angela Lopez is a QUEEN. I love her sfm. Man is lying to himself and she just wants him to realize that.
Poor Lucy is desperate for another opinion. So she seeks out her UC mentor. She is so cute when she says Harper is glowing haha I love her sfm. Lucy is asking everyone except the one person she knows would have her answer. So she is hitting up a very pregnant Harper LMAO Who is in no state of mind to be helping her out.
James basically ushers her out of the house. My girl. She needs advice so much and isnât getting what she needs from those around her. Trying to find someone to validate her skipping for Chris. Thing is she isnât going to find that. No one is going to validate this guilt of her's like she is seeking. Once again just wanna hug her.
We see Genny waiting in the parking garage for Tim. She called him earlier in the day about offers. Saying they had a developer who wanted over asking. But also a sweet family who wanted it for asking. Tim telling her to go with developer. Cause he doesn't care bout the house. So he makes a crack when she shows up about selling it to a sweet family for 100 bucks ha Such a brother things to do to her. Genny says no.... She has another reason for meeting up other than the house. Itâs here we learn about why Genny has been stressed all day. Her and her husband are getting a divorce. Tim tells her how sorry he is. He has most definitely Been there.
Tim asks about the house and who theyâre gonna sell it to? Asking if theyâre gonna pick the happy family? Genny says no the highest bidder. That divorce isnât cheap. HA Thatâll itâll soften the blow for her financially being a single mom now. Tim asks if her husband is moving out? She says no she wants to move. Here actually. Asking Tim if thatâs ok? He lights up. If thereâs anything he needs right now it's family. Especially with all the messy stuff with Lucy atm. Itâs so sweet how excited he is. Also their hug is also very adorable. I just adore them so very much.
They nailed casting for his sister. They have an excellent sibling rapport. Good chemistry in that way. Also they do look like they could be related itâs unreal. I love the smile on Timâs face as he hugs her. My heart. Family is so important to have around. Especially when youâre close to them. This is what Lucy wanted for him out of 4x08. Them to not be torn about their dad but be there for each other like this. Getting me all emotional cause what I have with my baby sister. You know heâs excited he will get to see his nephews more and such too. I love it.
We finally reach their first scene of the ep. Itâs a doozy everyone. But such a good one. This is the stage I like to call it 'Hurts so good.' I will always take good productive angst. Well written angst. Itâs the BS teenager angst I cannot stand. These people are in their thirties. They donât got time for that crap. The secret child or breaking up for no reason other than just to make the miserable. Nothing makes me angrier than useless angst just for the sake of having it.
This right here is the good stuff. They did a damn fine job with their angst. It leads us right into that good pining era as well. There is a knock at Lucyâs door. Itâs Tim looking mighty fine if you ask me. Says heâs checking in. Asks Chris how heâs feeling? He replies Lucy is taking care of him. The sweet almost sad look to his smile gets me.
Knowing first hand how caring she is. She cared for him long before he was ready for it. When he didnât appreciate like he would now. This moment is their breakup before they even got together scene. Because thatâs basically what it is. We all know Tim included why sheâs really holding back from UC school. Her front is Chris. When really itâs Tim and everything they havenât untangled from Vegas. They havenât talked about it whatsoever. Tim is there to clear the air.
Lucy is a little bristly with him at the door. He doesnât let it deter him. Asking her if he can talk to her? She says yes and follows him out into the hallway. Ahh this hallway where so much happened last time. The context and situation so much different this time around. Tim being straight with her right off the bat. Saying he hears sheâs on the fence about UC school. She has been hunting down opinions all day long. The one she needs the most comes to her. I love this sfm. Kudos to the writers for setting up this scene so well. Lucy is shocked Chris called him.
Tim says yes it was unexpected..but he wanted him to talk to her. Interesting how Chris could know Tim would be the voice of reason for her. But canât figure sheâs in love with the man and vice versa. Lucy telling him itâs not the right time. Tim wonât stand for this answer. That she owes it to herself to go. Lucy has been the voice of reason for him many times. There to absolve him of his guilt when he blamed himself about Mitch and Caleb. She couldnât stand him bearing a burden that wasnât his.
The beautiful part of this heartbreaking scene is he is now doing the same for her. He came not only about UC school but for her guilt. The guilt she is wearing like armor at the moment. About Chris, about what almost happened between them while he was dying. Tim telling heâs going to be fine. That what happened to him ISN'T her fault. Telling Lucy what she used to tell him. Stop weighing your soul down with guilt that isnât yours to carry.
Lucy brings up what they were about to do. âWe were about to..â The way she says that line there is some longing in there. How yes, sheâs still with Chris and the guilt that exists with that. But her desire for what almost happened is still there. She doesnât want to ignore what almost happened between them.
Tim following up with âBut we didnât. We didnât.â Gah some longing in his voice too. He too is sad they didnât. The softness in his voice as he delivers that line. Gah itâs so good. Part of him still wishing they had. They had this awakening of their feelings mixed with UC. Then Chris almost dying throwing a nasty wrench in it all.
There is so much subtext behind the lines theyâre saying to each other. Lucy then notes the thing sheâs been clinging onto. Being his go-fer. Asking if heâs getting rid of her as it? The hurt in her voice *heart clutch* It's written all over her face. Last thing she wants is for Tim to push her away. Itâs why she was avoiding UC school in first place. She doesnât want to lose working with him if she canât be with him. Itâs the closest thing she has to that and now heâs proposing taking that away.
This feels like a breakup because well it is. Their work dynamic/relationship is a huge part of who they are. Itâs how we got to this place weâre in. Itâs a sacred thing to both of them. Tim is trying to ease her hurt with his reply. Telling her 'NoâŚheâs just trying to look out for her.' The emotions in his voice as he says this. I wanna cry. They both have pre-tears in their eyes. Tim knows this is the right thing to do. Nothing and I mean nothing is more important to that man than protecting her career. Protecting her. Look how far he has come.
Was almost rabidly against her doing UC. Now heâs encouraging it because he knows itâs what best for her. Even if that means leaving him behind. Tim refuses to jeopardize her career in anyway. Itâs why he fought her being his aide at first the way he did. Didnât want anyone to question her or why she got to where she is. Didnât want any hand in people thinking less of her when it wasnât true. That even if it hurts them both he is going to look out for her first and foremost.
Lucy can't believe what she's hearing. It's all over her expression in that first gif above. The hits keep coming with this scene. Tim telling her itâs time to move on. When heâs really saying is about them. They had their shot and now itâs time to move on. That they have to accept it's not going to happen for them. Gah kills me as Iâm writing this. Took the man years to realizes he was in love with her. Now that he does he canât have her. So heâs willing to do the honorable thing. Step aside and put his feelings on back burner.
Set aside what he wants for what she needs. Because he knows Lucy. How selfless she is for those she loves. He refuses to let her give up her aspirations for him. Lucy is crushed with his retort of moving on. Theyâre both so vulnerable in this scene. Itâs what makes it hurt so damn good. Props to Eric and Melissa once again. Conveying so much with their words, eyes, and expressions. We are truly lucky to have them as our ship.
Lucy does some double talk of her own. Saying some time away would be good. Really meaning she canât be around him especially after him breaking this off. That if she canât be with him better to be away from him. That this far too painful for her. For them both really. Tim trying to build up her saying what a great opportunity this will be. We know how hard this conversation is for him to have. But it shows the depth of growth in him to have it.
This is so very hard on him to give up. Lucy canât even say more. Her heart is breaking in this moment. Her person is sending her away from him. All she can muster up is âMmhmm..â because if she speaks any further sheâs going to cry. Tim most definitely wonât be able to handle that. Tim with tears in his eyes telling her she should go for it. Even if itâs killing him inside to be apart from her. To walk away from their potential romantically.
Tim feels the best thing he can do for her is distance himself. He is going to fall on his sword to make sure her future is secure. Now that is love. My goodness. The way she is searching his face in the first gif. Oof. She looks so hurt and angry at him for this. She also is trying to keep her shit together. It breaks my heart. This entire scene does. Then our boy walks away and she looks devastated. He has a smile on his face till he turns away from her. Then we see the heartbreak evident on his beautiful face. Ugh.
How she can go back in Chris after that I don't know.. After this scene I knew this season was going to be a hell of a ride. This was the perfect productive angst for them. Hurt like a SOB to watch. A true gut punch to your feels. But damn so well written and acted. I loved it sfm. Oh my lord I love this season.

Lunch at Gennyâs.
Itâs nearly lunch time and Genny is stood at her kitchen counter preparing a meal for her family. Sheâs watching her boys throw a ball back and forth in the garden, which sounds idyllic but took half an hour of arguing and bribing to get them both to turn off their phones and games. She has some bright and breezy music playing in the background as she chops salad and prepares meat for the BBQ.
Tim, her brother, is coming over. He does this regularly, heâs kept to his promise of being more active in their lives and Genny loves it. From stepping in to coach little league, to Sunday lunches, to actually babysitting for the one, disastrous, date sheâd dared to go on since moving to the city.
But today was a little different, today Genny was making a little extra effort. Today was the day Tim was finally introducing her to Lucy. His girlfriend.
Of course Genny had met Lucy several times already, in fact Genny was pretty sure she had already made up her mind what kind of person Lucy was. And she loved her! Anyone who could make her hard nosed brother squirm with a look, stop in his tracks with one touch and make him laugh, really laugh was worth her weight in gold.
Tim had always talked more about Lucy than any other colleague, sheâd heard stories of Angela and his watch commander, but Lucy had quickly become a regular feature of their catch up phone calls. Then she had met Lucy and seen the shift in her brotherâs behaviour, his desire to be around her. Once she had moved to the city, with Ashley out the picture, she had been amused to see the pair of them trying to hide their obvious affection for each other from her. Then the calls to look after Kujo had started, not just âcan you drop in and take him for a walkâ during a shift but requests to have him over night. She new he had a dog sitter and only asked her as a last resort and she didnât mind at all, the boys loved Kujo and it stopped them begging her for a pet for themselves. It was clear he was regularly spending the night away from home, on top of his normal shifts.
So when Genny had called to invite him over for lunch she had been keen to extend the invitation to Lucy but was a little unsure as to how her notoriously private brother would take it.
âHey Tim, is this a good time?â
âAs good as anyâ
âPerfect, how would you like to come over for lunch on Sunday?â
âActually that works for me, as long as I can bring the dog?â
âOf course. Actually⌠as youâve mentioned bringing someoneâŚâ
âGenny?â
âIs there anyone else youâd like to bring?â
ââŚâ
âItâs just an offer, anyone youâd like to bring would be welcomeâ
â⌠thanks, Iâll ask.â
âPerfect. Let me know if she has any food preferences, see you both at the weekend!â
And she had quickly hung up the phone.
Genny heard Timâs truck pull up outside but forced herself to stay in the kitchen and wait for the knock at the door, she was determined not appear too keen. After a couple of minutes she heard hushed voices outside the door and then, eventually a knock. As she swung the door open she was greeted immediately by Kujoâs nose pushing its way forward, she bent to stroke his head and then straightened up, first, into the beaming face of Lucy Chen and then looking up into the serious face of her brother.
Genny took in Lucyâs arm casually looped through Timâs, the way the womanâs body was turn in towards his. âHi! Genny thanks so much for inviting us over. I brought garlic breadâ
Tim bent down and unclipped the dogs lead, letting him run off in search of the boys in the garden.
âHi Gennyâ he lent forward and hugged her briefly, he moved back, placed his hand on Lucyâs lower back and ushered her forward into the house.
Genny welcomed them both in and led the way to the kitchen. She fixed them both drinks and they chatted about work, house renovations and the boys. Genny watched her guests move around each other. The way Lucyâs body turned in his direction as he moved about the kitchen, how his hands moved to touch some part of her whenever she was in reach. The way Tim smiled at Lucyâs endless gentle teasing, no sign of irritation just warmth and affection as he rolled his eyes and chuckled and in return Lucyâs constant good humour. She seemed to find his grumpy demeanour endearing, which Genny new from personal experience was a must if you were going to spend any real time with Tim.
Time had come to put the meat on the grill. Tim stood, passing a plate of kebabs to Lucy and picking up the steaks himself and the pair walked out into the garden. Genny watched her two buys walk over to the couple, they had both met Lucy at Tylerâs little league match and the four quickly struck up an easy conversation. After a few minutes of chatting, whilst Tim loaded up the grill, Lucy moved off into the garden with the boys and they all started playing catch. Tim watched them from the grill, fiddling with the heat before turning a walking back inside the house.
âThatâs a mighty big smile you have there big brotherâ Genny ventured, somewhat bravely.
âIt really is great to have you and the boys backâ
âRiiightâ she earns herself a sharp look from her brother âand it doesnât have anything to do with your friend? The beautiful, energetic, witty woman, who hangs on your every word and chooses to spend her precious days off playing catch with your nephews?â
âMaybeâ to her amazement the gruff exterior melts and she seizes her chance to push his boundaries a little.
âShe it, isnât she?â
He sighs deeply âwithout doubt.â
âMarriage?â
âIf sheâll have meâ
âOh she will, she loves youâ
âShe does, doesnât sheâ and Genny is shocked by the surprise in his voice.
âYouâre a pretty great guyâ
Their conversation ends quickly as Lucy runs back in to tell Tim itâs probably best he comes to turn the meat as things are getting a little smoky outside.
The rest of the afternoon runs like clockwork, they sit down to eat. Tim asks the boys about school and Lucy picks out their more child friendly adventures to share at the table. The boys practically beg for Lucy to come and throw the ball around with them after the food is cleared away but Genny sends them off. âUncle Tim and Lucy want to spend some of their day off together boysâ
The adults move inside, Genny taking the comfy chair, leaving the couple to the well worn sofa. Tim takes the corner, arm out along the back of the sofa until Lucy folds herself into his side and his arm automatically tucks in around her. Genny gets up to make coffee for herself and Lucy, from the kitchen she watches Tim dip his head and kiss the woman he clearly loves on the forehead. They talk quietly, contentedly. Lucyâs hand touches his chest and Genny turns away. Itâs too sweet and innocent and she wants them to have their moment of privacy.
Gennyâs guest stay until the end of Lucyâs cup of coffee. Genny offers to have Kujo for the night as thanks for Lucy doing a great job of wearing the boys out and Tim eagerly agrees. As Tim pops to the car to grab some of the dogs supplies Genny takes the opportunity to talk to Lucy alone.
âThank you so much for having me overâ Lucy hugs Genny warmly
âYouâre very welcome, donât wait for that brother of mine to invite you back. Youâre welcome here any time. All the Bradford boys love youâ and then because she canât help herself ânot just the oldest oneâ she adds pointedly. Her smiles widens as she watches the colour rise in Lucyâs cheek. âMaybe we could go for lunch?â She asks as Tim walks back through the door with an armful of supplies.
âOnly if you bring pictures of teenage Tim!â Lucy playfully jabs him in the ribs
âNoâ Tim puts both hands on Lucyâs hips and pushes her out the door âit was nice knowing you Genny, sorry it had to end this wayâ he jokes crossly as Genny blows him a kiss and waves.
She watches them drive off, shuts the door and walks back to her comfy chair. She picks her laptop up off the coffee table and opens the website to her favourite clothes shop, selects dresses and starts browsing âI hope they have a summer weddingâ she says to herself as she clicks on a floaty garment âthis will be perfect.â

Another idea has come to meâŚ.
In 5x11, when Lucy goes to the domestic call and Kira holds the gun at her⌠what if she did end up getting shot (like not in a shes gonna way) and then get taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile Tim, Angela, Nyla and Aaron are dealing with the drug situation and have no idea whatâs happening.
Grey obviously is informed about what happened to Lucy and when Tim & Co get back from their situation, he calls Tim into his office. Or maybe brings the group over and tells them that Lucyâs been shot and is at Shaw. Sheâs in surgery but should be okay.
Tim, panics, of course. But tries to keep his cool because he and Lucy are still dating in secret. Angela, with a knowing bit worried smile, makes the suggestion that they head over and be there when she gets out of surgery. Tim agrees and they all get in their cars, Angela in the parking lot stops Tim.
âYouâre in no condition to drive, give me your keys.â
âIâm fine.â
âDonât lie to me, Timothy. I know what she means to youâ
Tim attempts to argue but she holds her hand up. âYou can tell me when youâre ready but just know⌠I already know. I am the best detective at Midwilshire. Iâm also your best friend. You canât lie to me.â
âFine.â
They all make it to the hospital in record time, flashing badges and getting to the waiting room. Tim is pacing, everyone is worried. Eventually, the doctors come out give them and update and then say they can see her two and a time when Lucy is out of ICU and in a room.
Tim finally takes a breath, relaxes a little and settles in a seat. With the good news, most everyone leaves, except Angela, Nolan, Celina ans maybe Aaron. They also make sure to call Tamara to come down too.
After what feels like forever, Lucy is in her own room and a nurse comes into the waiting area
âAre any of you a Tim Bradford?â
Every gives a little side eye, but smile as Tim leaps up from his chair.
âThatâs me.â
âLucy is asking for you.â The nurses smiles, âYou can follow me.â She starts walking away and Tom early follows.
Once heâs out of earshot the group all look at each other.
âSo, are we supposed to keep pretending like we donât know theyâre dating?â Celina makes a face
âYes. Until theyâre ready to tell us, we pretend.â (Someone says this idea who)
âItâs about damn time, though.â (Maybe Aaron says this)
We flip back to Tim walking down the hall, the nurse turning to him once theyâre outside Lucyâs room.
âSheâll probably still be tired from the anesthesia and pain meds but sheâll be just fine.â
âThank you.â Tim hesitates as he reaches for the doorway.
âIt was quite sweet, the moment she woke up, the first thing she did was ask for you. Didnât want you to worry anymore than you already were.â
âThatâs Lucy.â
âYou can stay as long as youâd like. I can have someone bring in a blanket and pillow for you.â
âIâll see what she wants first.â
âSure thing.â
The nurse walks away and Tim takes a deep breath before going into Lucyâs room. Bracing himself because he knows seeing her in pain is going to crush him a little bit.
âHey.â He smiles as he walks in. Noting how her pretty brown eyes light up when she sees him.
âHi.â
âHow are you feeling?â
âGetting shot is not fun.â
âItâs not.â
Tim sits in the chair and leans over to take her hand, he kisses her knuckles gently, noting how theyâre bruised. Probably from the fight sheâd been in (Grey informed him of what happened).
âI was really scared.â She whispers, eyes watering.
âMe, too, Luce.â
âI would have been so mad if I died before we ever really got to be together. A few weeks is not enough.â
âMhm.â Tim nods, swallowing back his own emotions, because he wants to be strong for her. âYouâre okay, now.â
âYeah.â She smiles. âDid your call go okay?â
âAs well as youâd expect.â
âGood.â She nods. Eyes heavy. âIâm tired.â
âGo back to sleep.â
âDonât leave.â
âWouldnât dream of it.â
âGood.â She squeezes his hand and closes her eyes.
#chenford#the rookie#this is my version of fics because I donât have the energy or mental health to write right now#otherwise I might#I also donât feel like I really have their voices yet so thatâs also a reason#Iâm a perfectionist
