*slams table* Okay, listen up-
I'm glad that Rana got a vision of her own.
BUT-
I will NEVER get over Teppei. Never. My poor boy got massacred without even a CHANCE of getting through the war alive.
Dunyarzad at least got her eleazar taken care of, despite almost becoming a statistic number.
SO LOOK AT THIS!!! WE WITNESS A VISION GIFTING!!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
however, let's focus more on Lumine's expression here.
She looks so irritated. This is a big moment! The long quest is over, Rana is okay and healthy, the forest is saved, the aranara have promised everlasting friendship, and Arana and Rana have just made such sweet promises to travel together as dear friends. So why does Lumine look so apprehensive? Maybe, it's not about the moment, maybe it's about the vision, or maybe, it has to do with
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
other NPCs we happened to know.
I mean, all Rana did was sit safely in her bubble right? Maybe Lumine is thinking about a couple other people rn.

I seem to have a problem whenever a character dies in a game.
I THOUGHT TEPPEI WAS ALIVE, WELL AFTER THE QUEST. I THOUGHT MY BEST FRIEND TEPPEI WAS LIVING HIS BEST LIFE AFTER THE WAR. I'm dead serious, it's only until my friend told me that he died that I realised 😭
AND DON'T GET ME STARTED WITH JJK *spoilers up ahead, scroll if you don't want to get spoiled* I THOUGHT NOBARA LIVED. it was only a few chapters later that I realised that she and nanami both weren't coming back 😭😭

Been thinking about the Traveler being reminded of Inazumas War during Natlan and an Open Arms Reprise , I saw that sparked an idea about Teppei and Vichamas deaths so i’m about to make it everyone else’s problem.
Spoilers, obviously
————-
With every scrape of blood off the sole of her once gleaming white boots, the sound of every solider and innocent lost being counted in the rest area, she was reminded of flashing lightning.
Of Gorou returning from unsuccessful search and rescues. Of Kokomis deep eye bags, Of….him. He who never got to try on his uniform.
A dash of moonlight reflected on Paimons hair, now drained from all the tears she had shed, wrapped in the blondes scarf.
She had really been with her through everything. The one constant Lumine could always count on.
“Captain?”
The once familiar voice had the outlander turning immediately.
“Teppei?”
Smiling in his Watasumi uniform, the apparition waved happily . As if he had never died. The friendship bracelet made from his first broken dummy still tied neatly as he stood by a crackling blaze.
“Thats me! It’s been awhile, huh? You look pretty tired, you can rest here by my fire, if you want.”
As if in a haze, she moved forward, an in a foolish leap of faith, jumped to hug her fallen friend, silent tears staining his uniform as he returned the embrace.
When she pulled back, the reality came in.
“You’re dead.”
“Yup.”
“Then how..?”
Rubbing the back of his neck, the former soldier looked off to the side.
“Night…uh…Kingdom stuff? I won’t be here for long, but I met this guy in the afterlife, and he mentioned you made it here, so I wanted to check on you! He helped me out.”
“He?”
Another figure fizzled into view. One she had seen only days ago. But this form was mutilated, ripped apart. He couldn’t have….not after..
“Vichama….?”
He didn’t meet her eyes.
“Rifthounds are the worst, aren’t they?”
Prodding the small flame with a stick, the fallen sighed.
“Once this flame goes out, we’ll be gone for good. You can have my stuff if it’s not too destroyed when….if…you get back. I doubt anyone else will want it.”
“The Captain of Swordfish || will definitely make it out! You haven’t seen what she can do! She’s amazing!”
“You’re weirdly positive for someone who died a long and agonizing death, y’know.”
Eyes of gold welled, the onyx haired patting the log next to him.
“You can let it all out while we wait, Captain. The dead tell no tales, right?”
———
And so, Lumine did just that. Told him everything. Sumeru, Fontaine, and what had happened so far in Natlan. Desperately, she didn’t wish for this moment to end. If only she had obtained Pyro from the Statue, she would have made Vichamas Fire burn eternally.
As it began to fade, Teppei rose from his seat, holding out his hand toward her.
“It’s time to keep moving on Captain.”
“…How Teppei?”
Wind was his only response as she took it all in. He was right, and she knew it. As she took his hand, Vichama cut in.
“I….I know you’re probably tired of all this war and bloodshed, but you’ve got the chance to have a life to live. Someone once told me to Keep them in their heart to bring them home.”
“He’s right! And give all the kindness you can, well, if you can.”
Carefully handing Paimon into her arms, the Inazumian smiled weakly.
“Remember how even during the war, our friendship still made us both feel happy and warm? Don’t give up on making friends like me again.”
The Verdette now stood, his ripped canopy outfit getting stuck on a twig for a moment before he was able to respond.
“And I know from..you know..that you probably might feel like we like we blame you for not being able to save us, but we don’t. Atleast I don’t.”
He faded away first, tossing her a dog-tag necklace with a key attached, leaving just Lumine and Teppei, who admired the mountain view, even in the pitch darkness.
“Y’know, life really is amazing. Everyone takes it for granted until they lose it, so…”
Slipping off his identification tag from around his neck, the deceased pressed it into her hand.
“Even after all this, try to greet the world with Open arms, ok? It’s going to be hard, but I think you’re capable of anything, I really do.”
Just like Vichamas, his visage began to fade, ruffling her hair as he disappeared.
“Thanks for everything, Traveler. I couldn’t have asked for a better Captain, or a better friend.”
One final time, he smiled.
“Goodbye, my friend.”
The fire flickered to nothingness as he vanished.
——-
Paimon stirred, yawning as she shifted around in the swaddle Lumine had made with scarf as the outlander began to prepare the hot air balloon.
“Paimon had this dream about Teppei and Vichama, and a huge war in….”
As she floated to oversee the region from above, the cheeriness in her voice all but faded.
“Oh…Guess Paimon wasn’t dreaming about the war then…is…is it really not over?”
“Not yet Paimon. Soon. Open arms.”
“Open arms? Whats that supposed to mean?”
————-
____________
Link to the Open Arms Reprise that gave me this idea!:
Yea thats it.
Enjoy.

You know, I've seen the idea that Crepus could have been a Harbinger, assuming Pierro, Capitano, and Arlecchino are 0, 1, and 4th seat respectively, but while I think that would be interesting, I doubt it.
See, the main crux of the argument is the fact that Crepus had a Delusion. Interesting, right? How did he come into possession of one? People will point to this as evidence for Fatui, specifically Harbinger, membership, but I think this idea overlooks something very important.
An entire plot point of the Inazuma Archon quest was the fact that the Fatui were manufacturing and distributing Delusions amongst ordinary people with a desire for power. Did y'all forget Teppei? Who died because of his use of a Delusion?
What's interesting about this is that Crepus fits this description almost perfectly. He never received a vision and was never able to join the Knights of Favonius, yet that wish persisted and was eventually passed to Diluc. Just the sort of person the Fatui would be looking for.
And its these sorts of people who wouldn't have as many reservations about accepting power from otherwise sketchy as hell sources. Nor would they be the type to easily divulge this secret.
It is, in my opinion, very believable that Inzazuma was far from the only place the Fatui ever distributed Delusions on the black market. Make money while being able to test/research Delusion on unsuspecting people and not your own troops? Yeah, we can afford to have some in circulation amongst the general public.

Jealously towards the unblessed
Imagine the emotional whiplash your acolytes feel when the Creator finally arrives at Teyvat, but instead of taking time to meet them, the Creator immediately heads out to give some closure for the various NPCs.
For Teppei, the yakshas, and other dead characters, the Creator immediately makes contact with them in the afterlife, maybe bring them back as spirits temporarily so they can have some closure with their friends. I can see Xiao being very happy over this.
For Osial, the Creator will definitely have a private chat with him about Liyue to get him to let go of his hate.
As for Zhiqiong and Katarina, you can totally bet that the Creator is booking it straight to the Chasm to get her out ASAP; whether or not she's alive. I feel like Keqing is a bit proud that the Creator cares so much even for non-vision holders.
For everyone else though, they're jealous af. Those characters never assisted the Creator in battle, so what was it about them that resonated with the Creator so much?

The Cost of the Crown
An inazuma au, because canon has disappointed me, and moral conundrums are fun.
What if Kokomi knew about the delusions?
Think about it: Kokomi is a War general fighting a losing battle against undiscribeable odds. Her home doesn’t have the soil to maintain the kind of food her army needs, she needs every help she can get.
So when the Fatui approach with an offer of a weapon on par with a vision, she’d jump at the chance.
But Kokomi’s no fool. She knows the fatui are only allies for as long as their goals aline, and that doesn’t make them trustworthy. She tests one out on herself and clocks the energy drain right away.
Now an ordinary person would chuck the delusion in the other direction and run at that point, but not Kokomi. She’s desperate. She is very aware that she is fighting a war. And a bloody one at that. Most of her men are going to die. There’s no getting around it. Can she really give up any advantage, no matter how dangerous? Would it be better if her doomed could use that life to get in a few good punches with a delusion before they inevitably succumb?
She decides to test it out. From the fatui stationed nearby she knows some people can weild it longer than others. So she asks Gorou to gather several trusted men, and bring them to her tent.
She then lays down the truth to them, that delusions are dangerous, but could provide a boost in power. She asks them if they are willing to test them out. This is not a mission, she will not order them to risk their lives. It is completely up to them.
The trusted men accept, one of them being Teppei. They are warriors after all, and risking their lives is something they do every day.
Kokomi tries to be cautious. She limits the times each man can use a delusion. Keeps them under lock and key, personally monitors the men’s health to see that the drainage isn’t to bad.
She also asks the traveler, a known weilder of elemental power without a vision, to train the men, so they can master their use quickly and safely.
She tells the traveler of what delusions are and their risks, but she does not tell them she got them from the fatui. The fatui and the traveler share a grudge, and she does not want said grudge to cloud the travelers mind while they train her men.
For a little while, it works. The traveler fights side by side with teppei and the other delusion weilders, and they’re proud of how powerful their students have become
Then it all starts to go wrong.
Teppei starts rapidly aging after a battle, and despite the traveler immediately removing the delusion, it does no good, Teppei dies to quickly to be saved.
The traveler is devistated, wracked with guilt over their hand in Teppei’s fate. They break into Kokomi’s files looking for answers and discover the delusions are from the fatui
Angry, the traveler confronts Kokomi, who is equally devistated at Teppei’s fate. Blaming herself for making a bad call but…
This is war. Men die every day. Sometimes by the thousands. Teppei was one man. He died, but his actions in that battle saved hundreds.
No one knows that better then Kokomi. She’s a war general. Sending men to their deaths is a reality she must face every day.
She tells the traveler the hard truth. This isn’t a fairy tale, or an adventure story. The heroes don’t always succeed. And freedom is a price paid in the blood of soldiers.
Does she want to let the men continue to use the delusions? Of course not! But she gave that choice to the men who hold them. They knew the risks a delusion posed. She could order the men to give them back, she knows they’d listen to her. But as a general, she knows she cannot. Not over the fate of one man.
However, she does know the traveler can pull off miracles. She’s heard what they’ve done in Liyue and Mondstat. So she offers the traveler a deal, strictly off the books. She will confiscate the delusions, for now, If the traveler can successfully find a way to match the delusion’s power in battle.
As a war general, she can only give the traveler a couple of weeks to pull this off. But as the head shrine maiden of Watasumi, she begs the traveler to succeed.
Now the Traveler is doubly motivated. Both to avenge Teppei, who they trained, and to save the rest of Watasumi: from those who would throw their life away on delusions, to the gentle war general who despite everything, has not given up hope.

The people of Sumeru forgot that there was ever a greater lord Rukkhadevata, but they still refer to their Kusanali as “lesser lord.” This is because, with Scaramouche erased from history, no one distributed delusions to the soldiers of Watatsumi island. Teppei survived and, after the war, moved to Sumeru where he accidentally convinced the Academia that he was a god. He is now worshiped as “greater lord Teppei,” and lives in Vimara Village.

it does genuinely baffle me how childe fought that whale for so long though, has he been training for the olympics or smth? he fought a bunch of ruin guards in liyue and collapsed in a corner, but was fighting the whale for over a month, im not complaining but i need context hoyo, is he more powerful in the abyss or?
also because teppei lasted less time with his delusion doing far less risky things, but childe fought clorinde with only a delusion, and then whipped out foul legacy in court, got stomped and then whipped it out again for the whale for a month, like... i need context hoyo?!
