They're opposites on the surface but have much, much more in common than you'd first assume when you dig into them further, and as the millennia-old archons of friendly neighbouring countries they have a long, complicated history with each other. As the only remaining members of the original Seven, and likely having been through Khaenri'ah's fall together, they might be able to understand and support each other better than anyone else ever could. The surface level differences give them great comedic potential as well. They work great as a straightforward ship, a bitter divorced couple in the background of other ships, a mess that oscillates between them, or a pair of oblivious fools who've been ignorant of the other requiting their feelings for thousands of years. What's not to like?

DrunkxDrunk dynamic is funny, very applicable with comfort and angst because they both such well written characters :]

Xiao's true dream is to find freedom but he still feels bound to his contract with Rex Lapis because technically he Did free him from his previous master so therefore his current duties are technically a form of freedom so to look for another form would be a betrayal and then we have the god of freedom who would probably never initiate for fear of issues with consent but probably also just wants to be seen as himself and not just a god and. yeah

You can just tell someone on the writing team ships it. Every time one pops up, there's a good chance the other will at least get mentioned. "I compensate her in other ways", going on a trip together, straight up flirting. "Chess".

Canonically they're married, jk. Propaganda, just that one lantern scene. Them literally being the dragon and the phoenix, which is a symbol of marriage. The way that Beidou is the only one that doesn't lose chess on purpose to Ningguang, Ningguang calling Beidou to petty work for no reason. Ningguang ignoring Beidou's fines. Literally all their scenes together, like it's not even hinting atp.

There are a lot of a parallels between them as family-oriented characters, being different/eldritch in some senses, and the ideologies that drive them being what ultimately keeps them apart—enemies to reluctant friends—which leads to interesting interactions and feelings. And then there's the mortal x immortal trope with Lumine (probably?) being immortal? There are so many cool dynamics to unpack with Chilumi. But mostly eldritch girlboss Lumine that makes friends everywhere she goes, and a dude that works on fae logic and bloodlust and doesn't make friends as easily, and them finding comfort with one another. They are so much fun.

Literally so canon. Yae waited for her for 500 years and did everything to try and get her to see sense. When the Archon quest starts they both have very different view on eternity and Ei's changes, and Ei is very rigid and stubborn and serious, and Yae is stubborn in her own way and she teases Ei, and Ei can talk to someone that isn't worshipping her.

I could just start and end with "lesbian". They are "long time friends" and Miko clearly cares very deeply about Raiden, as she helps the traveler because she wants to save Raiden. Also, Miko can remember all of Raiden's combat moves, which I can't do for any of MY friends. When Ei and Miko talk (flirt) in the Plane of Euthymia, they're so happy to see each other. Also, Raiden trusted Miko with her gnosis, which no other archon has done and is something that clearly would not be given away without extreme trust. When the traveler points out that Miko and Ei enjoy teasing each other, Miko responds with a wink. They are almost always talking about or to each other. I don't even need to explain "Pretty Please, Kitsune Guuji". Also this: "Locking herself away in the Plane of Euthymia when she clearly wants to be out—it's just willful self-torture, really... It's rather stubborn, but cute, don't you think?". They clearly care for each other and want the best for each other, and have always been together for hundreds of years. They bring out the best in each other and there's a lot to explore in their relationship in terms of forgiveness, reconnection, and fluff or angst, they are just really cute together and have a LOT of canon lore so you don't need to dig very deep to about how much they love each other bc its right there!!!

ok so I'm kinda coming at this from a queerplatonic angle but hear me out. They're Bros. they hang out together regularly and play games. now Ayato is a very busy, stifled, emotionally repressed, and kind of sadistic person. so why on EARTH would be hang out with Itto to just play games? he doesn't even like, torment him or anything. HENCE!! this is where I posit that Ayato ENJOYS spending time with itto because he ENVIES him, he envies how carefree and happy and playful and ignorant he is, he envies how he can just...be. and when Ayato is with Itto, he gets to feel a bit of that too. he's not the head of the kamisato clan, he's not an important figure in the tri-commission, he's just My Bro Ayato. it gives him the relief to just exist. itto on the other hand experiences so many hardships, people harass and attack him just for existing in a way that is obviously queer (in race, in neurotype, in orientation....(though i HC him aroace)). he's relieved just to have a non-child companion who seems to respect him and play with him and hang around him for who he is, not for who the law wants him to be. i posit that, similar to how Ayato feels accepted in a way that lets him shed his family crest and weight of responsibility by Itto, itto feels accepted in a way that lets him wear his horns with pride. because itto's unabashed ADHD and oni heritage and love for his hobbies is exactly what is ATTRACTIVE about him to Ayato in the first place. there are only like 200 fics for these guys on AO3 the last time I checked. i feel so strongly about them. does anyone see my vision. please

i just think their dynamic is neat! rather than balancing each other out, they just feed into each other's personal form of chaos and yknow what. Good For Them
