Teyvat Online is a Discord server made by fictives for fictives! We have many channels to discuss source, archive resources, art channels, talking channels, and more! This is ultimately an effort to connect (or perhaps, reconnect) fictives from our shared(-ish) source, and have a community to rely on when the loneliness gets a little too unbearable!

This server is moderated by me, Kaeya Alberich (from Greenhouse Haunted), Flowchi Elmflowers (host of Greenhouse Haunted), and our good friend M (our maintenance man).

so a character connected to death huh.... as you know he's been on my mind a lot lately. i was originally going to do xiao, who i may still make an edit for on this theme just for fun! but after finishing the sumeru archon quest and just everything ever the past few weeks or so, dear lord. it's so hard to do anything that's not scara for this.

scara is someone who's been cast aside and disregarded for pretty much his entire life. whether it was ei discarding him and deeming him weak, people fearing him and ostracizing him, or even mortals succuming to their mortality around him, he's never been able to find real solace in anyone, anywhere, anything.

in a way, he's not so centered around death, but an idea of rebirth, but to be reborn you first have to die or be destroyed one way or another, so i think he counts well enough. if not, just look to the death he's witnessed around him or left in his own wake, the mortals around him who have "died" and abandoned him, the death of his own humanity and emotion as he vowed to shed any traces of them, the death that he even onced longed for and his wish to have never been born at all, or even the "death" of his name and history from irminsul.

i've not gotten to play inversion of genesis yet but i trust you fully when you say it's going to fuck me up so bad. but i know that when you look at it, "scaramouche" "kabukimono" and "kunikuzushi" are all identities that have "died". i know that eventually, he's able to start to let go of all the pain, hurt, violence, anger, and trauma connected to these names as he assumes the new role of the wanderer. he's able to shed the burdens of his past and no longer be defined by it, and is instead given a chance to start fresh, to learn better, and to be good.

in this way, his story is one of not just death, but rebirth and redemption. kunikuzushi, kabukimono, scaramouche, and all of these titles he's gone by in his hundreds of years in teyvat have all died, so that way he, as the wanderer, can live fresh and start new.

Decided I'd start with the experience-sharing and rip off the bandaid.

I am Kaeya. Like from Genshin Impact. In source, I was in a relationship with Diluc. That Diluc. Needless to say, I don't think most people would treat our collective well upon finding this out.

For those of you who have no fucking idea what I'm rambling about- it's a matter of translation. As far as I'm aware, there's both cultural and linguistic translation issues that resulted in the english translation of my source calling Diluc and I adoptive brothers. This resulted in the western fandom (of which we are a part of) not only deeming it a problematic ship, but outright sending death threats to people who shipped it. The thing is, from what very little I remember- that wasn't the case in the original version. We weren't treated as brothers. But regardless of if we were or weren't in actual canon, what matters is my canon.

We couldn't be farther from brothers. Are you kidding??? I got dragged into his life by his dad at a young age, traumatized from the fall of my nation and unable to speak a single word of their language. It took a long time for us to even consider each other friends. After that there was the whole... Everything, which if you know you know. That's a whole other reason our relationship in-source could be seen as problematic- Diluc did sorta try to kill me that one time and I did sorta provoke him out of self-loathing. I'm brushing over this primarily because I have yet to really delve into source memories to speak about it, and because I haven't asked Diluc for his input.

Note that people change. Both in-source, and in-system. I am not who I was then, nor was I who I was then by the time we ended up together in-source. I'm not going to justify my relationship publicly, that's not why I'm here. But the point is... My experience is that it doesn't fucking matter. I can't post about my experiences anywhere else, or at least I don't feel safe to, and all for something that has been ALREADY touched on by the plural community. Fictives aren't their source, don't owe you source separation because their source is problematic, their canon isn't necessarily the canon media, etc. etc. But from what I've seen there's not been much in terms of acknowledgement for how that effects relationships. I could absolutely be wrong, maybe we've just never seen it. But either way.

That's why I made this. I'm tired of feeling scared of chatting about source, my headmates are tired of being afraid of getting "called out" for talking about their own relationships because "the content creator didn't want people to ship their character actually :/" and I'm tired of my collective having a perfectly good reason to not want Diluc and I, even just our existence much less relationship, to be mentioned publicly. I can't blame them for protecting us. I would too. so fuck it.
