I think the beauty in Chloe/Geneva is that unlike most pairings with this dynamic, both of them are completely insane.

“YOU BROUGHT. PEOPLE. INTO MY LAB?”
It’s Color Theory EP 22.
Factory Reset
Trivia
This is the first appearance of Chloe or Angie since “You Live Like This?” and of Geneva since “Walk the Dog”. This is also the first episode Geneva appears without Ingrid.
Chloe’s lab returns after not being seen since the second episode.
Several of Chloe’s trademark inventions debut here, including the robot claw and her Happy Hammer. The massive gun Tanner is seen with is a prototype of the far smaller lasers seen later on.
While Chloe’s eyes are always visible when viewed from the side, this is the first time she’s seen without glasses.
Ragdoll Chloe is a just visual gag. She is not secretly a ragdoll, nor will she ever be.
No violet or yellow Drewmans appear.

“Looks like you've had an obsession with the occult for a LONG time...”
It’s Color Theory Episode 43.
Hexed, I’m Sure
Trivia
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite both having repeatedly appeared in the interim, this is the first episode since “You Live Like This?” where Ingrid has extended dialogue and Bryan speaks at all. Fittingly, that was Ingrid’s previous focus episode.
This the first six page comic since “Factory Reset”, back in episode 22. This is also the first episode Geneva speaks since then.
This is the first episode since “Walking the Dog” where Ingrid and Geneva appear together.
The second page was the last to be added. It was made to make the conversation feel less one sided and to give Ingrid a little more depth. In general, the actual script deliberately gives Ingrid more characterization than was originally storyboarded.
This is Clarence’s first voiced appearance since “Leveling the Playing Field”.
This is the second episode where Lyman directly and deliberately views a person’s memories, the first being “Look Deep Inside”. While she’s not seen in detail, unlike Chloe in the aforementioned episode, Young Ingrid’s design (top of his right eye, bottom right of his left eye) is borrowed from her chibified design shown in “You Live Like This?”, as denoted by her hair curving downward instead of pointing up. The other memories shown feature her as an adult, Geneva and Lyman himself being visible in two of them.
When Lyman turns to look at Ingrid after his monologue, he very briefly loses his cleft lip in a rare occurrence.
This is the second episode to feature one of Aziz’s editing notes and the first to feature multiple. The second note establishes the series-long running gag of Geneva butchering complex words. Additionally, the monitors behind him once again show him editing a previous episode. In this case, it’s “The Evils of Lies and Hate”.
No orange, yellow, violet, or gray Drewmans physically appear, and if you exclude Aziz, exactly two of every remaining color type appears throughout. That being said, Landon appears on a monitor and he, alongside Violet and Martin, are mentioned by name.
None of the core six appear, aside from Rudy and J. appearing on Aziz’s monitor.
As of this episode, Lyman’s skin is slightly less yellow, mirroring a similar change in his Rough Sketch incarnation.
Geneva’s badge has been changed from the abstract shapes to the stars on her sweater as of this episode.
Ingrid’s skirt bunches up when she’s having her brief freakout. She doesn’t bother fixing it afterwards, and it becomes part of her standard design for the rest of the season going forward.
In general, Ingrid’s calmer characterization here is highly reminiscent of how she was portrayed in Rough Sketch, being far more angst ridden, socially awkward, and moody.
Clarence and Geneva’s last exchange reflects how he was in Rough Sketch while she wasn’t (and is in fact a partial replacement of him), but in-universe is meant to be taken literally.
While the seeds for Chloe/Geneva, Angie/Bryan, and Rudy/Olive have been sown before this episode, this is the first episode to actively focus on a pairing outside of Violet/Gordon (who are already married anyway) and Tyler/Fuchsia (who haven’t technically had a focus episode about them as a duo yet).
Ingrid’s last line is the second of many Book of Mario references. The first was back in “Versus Sylvester”, with the “This battle is inevitable” graphic.

“You caught me at a bad time. I’m still adjusting.”
It’s Color Theory EP 17.
Walk the Dog
Trivia
This is the third episode in a row to feature Violet, Ingrid, and Geneva and the first in which the latter doesn’t speak.
Coco has spoken in her other appearances, but this is the first time she holds a conversation.
The real world reason for Coco’s redesign was because she looked too much like a person in a fur suit. It’s just dumb luck that it ties into the plot.
No Gray, Green, or Yellow Drewmans appear in this episode.
This comic takes place roughly half an hour after the previous one.
Tyler returns after dying the previous episode.

“So I figured the easiest way to get my street cred back is to beat up the toughest guy around.”
“And what part of that description led you to Martin?”
It’s Color Theory Episode 49.
Petty in Pink
Trivia
At least one Drewman of every color family appears. Violet is the only violet Drewman in the main cast introduced thus far not to be seen.
This marks the first appearance of Crimson, albeit only on tv in a silent cameo.
This is the second episode Kofi appears, and once again one of his jobs has been interfered with by Sylvester’s rampage.
This is the first episode Piper leaves the news station.
Paige, Forrest, Sky, Fuchsia, and Landon all appear via silhouette in the second panel, with only Paige showing up again after that. This is the first episode Fuchsia appears but doesn’t speak.
Whitney’s original Rough Sketch counterpart had a characterization vaguely similar to Monty’s (and Kofi’s) as somebody who was socially savvy, worked a lot of jobs, and was always looking for money making opportunities. Her offscreen bet with Monty himself is a nod towards that scrapped characterization and a callback to Whitney’s final RS appearance, which also featured her placing bets on a physical confrontation (with Sky and Eloise also being there).
This comic leads into the next and is the first part of the three part end of the first act of Volume One.
Whatever Martin and Tyler were fighting over, it’s probably Landon’s fault.
None of the characters’ splash texts appear. Because I forgot them.

“AWAY WITH YOU TIME IS NOW!”
It’s Color Theory EP 16.
You Live Like This?
Trivia
After being mentioned in the previous comic, this marks the debut of Oz Square, the Bad Part of Town and the first time we see one of the subdivisions of Dullsville outside of the one the core cast lives in.
This marks the first appearance of Tyler in the It’s Color Theory universe, having gone by “Ringo” in Rough Sketch. This also marks the debuts of Bobbie, Charlie, and Dwight.
Tyler being the guy Ingrid and Geneva had previously beat up off screen was decided after the previous comic was written but before this one was. Adding him in made his introduction easier. The girls’ mentioned landlord would’ve filled his approximate role.
Siren was originally going to be the one to drop them off. This was scrapped both for pacing and because it would leave Rudy, Angie, Chloe, and Bryan stranded in Oz Square, the Bad Part of Town.
No Yellow or Gray Type Drewmans appear.
This is the second episode in which someone dies. In this case, Tyler is hit in the head by a door.
Ingrid’s parents (Alyson and Phyllis) and Geneva’s grandfather (Ezra) all cameo as pictures in the background.
A month passed between when the story was boarded and when the dialogue was written, meaning several details changed: The cutaway when Rudy is talking to Tyler originally had dialogue; Geneva was initially meant to cap off her story with something to the effect of “And that’s how I met your mother”-this was changed to prevent her from dropping two non sequiturs in a row; similarly, she was meant to misidentify Tyler as a tax collector, Ingrid’s nonchalant response serving to correct her; Rudy’s appeal to Tyler was initially to unconvincingly promise Ingrid and Jen wouldn’t attack him again, to which Tyler agreed to (the fact Rudy was already sporting a smug expression made it easy to change to a threat); finally, Bryan and Geneva’s final exchange was initially a one liner by Angie.
Tyler was completely right. He’d destroy Ingrid and Geneva in a fair fight since Geneva lacks technique and Ingrid isn’t all that strong on her own. Angie would’ve smoked him, though.
Siren let the girls go early on good behavior. Given that all the other law enforcers are superheroes that can level cities, she can afford to be lenient.
This comic takes place about half a day after the previous one. The ending is around ten in the morning; Violet is not a morning person.

“I want you…”
“TO WAKE UP!”
It’s Color Theory EP 15.
Formblende
Trivia
This marks the first episode after another long hiatus. Unlike last time, this one has no in-universe explanation.
The marks the debut of Ingrid in It’s Color Theory and Geneva overall, the latter having never appeared in Rough Sketch. Ingrid and Geneva were initially intended to be introduced in separate, back to back episodes. The two became inseparable in the interim and debuted thusly.
Siren also debuts after having previously only appeared in the noncanon pilot.
The time between episodes results in a number of design changes between characters: Violet has a lankier design, Peony has a chubbier build, J. has a different hoodie, Gordon’s hazard symbol has a shine effect, and Martin’s sleeves are a different color. The season’s plot also becomes far grander in scope, having initially been planned solely to introduce the cast.
In this episode, all the characters’ “dialogue” consists of Pokémon cries. This persists for several episodes after before being dropped entirely.
This episode returns to the 2x2 format of the first episode.
The characters’ badges no longer appear on the text boxes, but they notably don’t appear over their intro splash texts yet.
Oz Square, one of seven subdivisions of Dullsville is first mentioned here before debuting properly in the following episode. The Void Between Voids, the subconscious place where Violet was initially introduced to the fourth wall, physically appears for the first time.
No Green, Orange, or Gray Drewmans appear in this episode. Gordon is the only Drewman present to not be in Red, Blue, or Violet Types.
Formblende appears initially with a distinctly humanoid shape, then grows horns all over his body, and finally morphs into a monstrous version of Martin’s face due to the latter cutting her dream short. This shapeshifting power is unique to him and isn’t shared by the other

Geneva Betise, the Magenta Drewman

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Smiley Faced Space Case
Geneva’s mind exists entirely on another plane of existence. What little logic and reason that exists in Dullsville immediately flies out the window when Jenny’s around…which can come in handy with the odds the ICT gang get into. Or if you’re a thrill seeker.
It’s not that Geneva’s crazy or anything, she’s just a hyperactive scatterbrain whose head is too stuffed with happy thoughts and hyperfixations to fit anything else in it.
Fun Facts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Geneva was one of the final Season One characters designed for Rough Sketch; she was designed alongside most of the main cast, scrapped, and preemptively redesigned for Season Five of RS as the sole new character to be introduced, but it ended before she could ever appear, and unlike Alexandre (the only other S1 character not to physically appear in RS) she never appeared in any promotional material. Crimson and Aziz were still designed after her, and they, Eloise, Tanner, Bridgette, and Alexandre were added to S1’s roster afterwards.
Geneva was created very early on as a calmer, more artistic character, albeit with roughly the same grasp on reality. She essentially swapped personalities with Eloise, who was a denser, wackier type.
Geneva is one of several characters to change colors in development. In her case, she was originally sky blue, then purple, switching the latter color with Martin. She was also one of several characters to be renamed, originally being “Skye”, then “Morgan”. She was also originally “Jenny” before her name was expanded.
Geneva is the tallest female character introduced in Season One, and the second tallest of the S1 cast. Ironically, her second prototype design was fairly short, barely any taller than Rudy.
Geneva’s name is a play on magenta. Her last name is derived from Bêtises de Cambrai, a French hard candy. Specifically, Geneva’s surname (Betise) is spelled without an accent mark and pronounced as spelled out.
Geneva’s mismatched eyes, like Lyman’s cleft lip, carry into her human design, where she has complete heterochromia (not pictured).
Geneva’s generally exuberant attitude means she rarely keeps her emotions repressed. Subsequently, this means she’s ironically one of the few people who don’t give Lyman, the resident empath, a headache.

“I’ll take it from here, Ivan.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s Color Theory EP. 26
Don’t Ask
Trivia
This marks the first appearance of Aaron, Ivan, and Forrest. The former had previously debuted in Rough Sketch (Aaron being named “Barry”), while Forrest was slated for Season Four before the continuity was canned.
This episode went through two changes in development. Originally it was a group brainstorming session that additionally featured Olive, Paige, Amber, Aziz, and Coco. Then it turned into something similar to the final version, but with the incident being mainly Geneva’s fault for dragging the three newbies into it. In the latter, the idea of seniority allowing ICT members to tell newcomers what to would have been planted in Jen’s head by Aziz, but it was scrapped.
No orange, yellow, or violet Drewmans appear, nor do any Primary Characters.
This is Whitney’s first appearance since “You’re Not the Boss of Me” and her first appearance to not involve Violet or Noah.

Her round head and freckles were partially inspired FHfIF’s Goo, but I don’t have that kind of space.
Development
Tumblr media
Geneva’s development was as strange and convoluted as the lady herself. It started with her conception; her design started off as a more artistic character by the name of Sky. Nowhere near as energetic, but just as nuts. A bit earlier than that came Olive’s prototype, Eloise; a goofy but calculated jokester who lived to entertain. “Eloise” gained most of “Sky’s” attributes (and coincidentally the current Eloise used to be named Skye), abandoning her initial concept, and the character never appeared in Rough Sketch.
Tumblr media
The character returned when brainstorming what to do for a fifth season, given that a general outline of the comic was already being planned. To that end came Morgana, a purple Drewman, who had the character of a hyperactive, buzzy child. My initial concept for the jump to ICT featured her in a bit role for the second episode (which was only storyboarded and never posted), ironically alongside Olive herself. The character was eventually turned magenta, swapping colors with Martin, and focus shifted from her being hyperactive and childish. Geneva was essentially flanderized in some cases; while she’s far less energetic than planned and isn’t constantly smiling, she soon became defined by her strange thought processes and general weirdness. Soon her character shifted again, keeping the former traits while subtly making her more aggressive and clever. Essentially she had gone from a relatively normal person with incredible energy levels but little in the way of common sense to an absolute oddball who’s lucid enough to function on her own but enough of a threat for you to not want her to.
