“Comment allez-vous (How are you), what’s up with you?”
It’s Color Theory EP. 25
‘Ello, Elo, Y’ello
Trivia
This marks the first appearance of Eloise and Amber, having gone by “Skye” and “Charlie” in the old continuity. Incidentally, Olive and Paige used to have their names.
This is the first episode since “Back Again, I See” in which all six core characters appear.
Lyman is seen without his jacket, Bryan his vest, and Peony her ascot for the first time. We also see Peony’s hair down.
No Grey Drewmans appear. Geneva is also the only Red Drewman in the main cast to have debuted by this point and not be present.
Peony’s parasol debuts here.
This episode ends a mini-arc starting with “Violet and Scarlett” where the door is busted down.
Nobody in the Oobay-Monade household is seen in their regular clothes. This is subsequently the first time J.’s eyes are seen in full.
Chloe wears a sleep mask, much like her original continuity counterpart does.
This episode aired, although doesn’t necessarily take place, on Lyman’s birthday.

“YOU BROUGHT. PEOPLE. INTO MY LAB?”
It’s Color Theory EP 22.
Factory Reset
Trivia
This is the first appearance of Chloe or Angie since “You Live Like This?” and of Geneva since “Walk the Dog”. This is also the first episode Geneva appears without Ingrid.
Chloe’s lab returns after not being seen since the second episode.
Several of Chloe’s trademark inventions debut here, including the robot claw and her Happy Hammer. The massive gun Tanner is seen with is a prototype of the far smaller lasers seen later on.
While Chloe’s eyes are always visible when viewed from the side, this is the first time she’s seen without glasses.
Ragdoll Chloe is a just visual gag. She is not secretly a ragdoll, nor will she ever be.
No violet or yellow Drewmans appear.

Random Lines of Dialogue I May Never Get to Use in It’s Color Theory
Tumblr media
Violet: It’s amazing what you can accomplish through emotional suppression!
Rudy: You middle urinal of a living being.
J.: You can’t kill me in any way that matters.
Gordon: We can’t kill you at all!
Angie: (About to punch someone) I think this needs a woman’s touch.
Gordon: I wanna do something so out of character the message boards will whine about for years to come!
Chloe: (Collapsed on the ground, deadpan) Want some blood? I’m clearly not using it.
Bryan: Unyielding rage, my old friend, how I’ve missed you!
Peony: I…I never want to hear any of those words again.
Geneva: Not even “the”?
Peony: ESPECIALLY NOT “THE”!
Lyman: I can see your intrusive thoughts.
Coco: Everyone shut up, I’m dissociating.
Aziz: Why are you this kind of person?
Noah: Hey, if I hit on every available adult in the vicinity, statistically somebody has to love me back.
Whitney: It’s like they always say, “if your life is without order, make the lives of others shorter”!
Tyler: What, you think you’re better than me?
Martin: As someone who has no self-esteem, yes.
Ingrid: Tonight, girls become women, and boys…(brandishes hedge clippers)
Geneva: Whelp. I guess I’m the voice of reason now.
Tyler: Oh, you SON OF A…Tanner, what’s our age rating?
Tanner: My mom watches this show.
Tyler: Jerk.
Olive: (About her drawing) Be honest, but please remember I’m holding a pointy object.
Tanner: Sorry, brah! I can’t hear you over my outdated nineties’ slang!
Paige: (To Martin) You sure do talk a lot for someone nobody listens to.
Scarlett: Can somebody just say the title of the episode so this whole thing can end?
Aziz: You don’t even deserve to hear my lame excuse. I’m out of here.
Sylvester: I’m right behind you, aren’t I?
Crimson: Turns out putting up emotional walls is terrible for your social life. Who knew?
Martin: Guys, you can’t just pressure him into this! He’s a person with his own feelings and desires!
Alexandre: (Genuinely confused) No I’m not!
Clarence: I want my life back, Dullsville.

“Looks like you've had an obsession with the occult for a LONG time...”
It’s Color Theory Episode 43.
Hexed, I’m Sure
Trivia
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite both having repeatedly appeared in the interim, this is the first episode since “You Live Like This?” where Ingrid has extended dialogue and Bryan speaks at all. Fittingly, that was Ingrid’s previous focus episode.
This the first six page comic since “Factory Reset”, back in episode 22. This is also the first episode Geneva speaks since then.
This is the first episode since “Walking the Dog” where Ingrid and Geneva appear together.
The second page was the last to be added. It was made to make the conversation feel less one sided and to give Ingrid a little more depth. In general, the actual script deliberately gives Ingrid more characterization than was originally storyboarded.
This is Clarence’s first voiced appearance since “Leveling the Playing Field”.
This is the second episode where Lyman directly and deliberately views a person’s memories, the first being “Look Deep Inside”. While she’s not seen in detail, unlike Chloe in the aforementioned episode, Young Ingrid’s design (top of his right eye, bottom right of his left eye) is borrowed from her chibified design shown in “You Live Like This?”, as denoted by her hair curving downward instead of pointing up. The other memories shown feature her as an adult, Geneva and Lyman himself being visible in two of them.
When Lyman turns to look at Ingrid after his monologue, he very briefly loses his cleft lip in a rare occurrence.
This is the second episode to feature one of Aziz’s editing notes and the first to feature multiple. The second note establishes the series-long running gag of Geneva butchering complex words. Additionally, the monitors behind him once again show him editing a previous episode. In this case, it’s “The Evils of Lies and Hate”.
No orange, yellow, violet, or gray Drewmans physically appear, and if you exclude Aziz, exactly two of every remaining color type appears throughout. That being said, Landon appears on a monitor and he, alongside Violet and Martin, are mentioned by name.
None of the core six appear, aside from Rudy and J. appearing on Aziz’s monitor.
As of this episode, Lyman’s skin is slightly less yellow, mirroring a similar change in his Rough Sketch incarnation.
Geneva’s badge has been changed from the abstract shapes to the stars on her sweater as of this episode.
Ingrid’s skirt bunches up when she’s having her brief freakout. She doesn’t bother fixing it afterwards, and it becomes part of her standard design for the rest of the season going forward.
In general, Ingrid’s calmer characterization here is highly reminiscent of how she was portrayed in Rough Sketch, being far more angst ridden, socially awkward, and moody.
Clarence and Geneva’s last exchange reflects how he was in Rough Sketch while she wasn’t (and is in fact a partial replacement of him), but in-universe is meant to be taken literally.
While the seeds for Chloe/Geneva, Angie/Bryan, and Rudy/Olive have been sown before this episode, this is the first episode to actively focus on a pairing outside of Violet/Gordon (who are already married anyway) and Tyler/Fuchsia (who haven’t technically had a focus episode about them as a duo yet).
Ingrid’s last line is the second of many Book of Mario references. The first was back in “Versus Sylvester”, with the “This battle is inevitable” graphic.

“Don’t close the door don’t close the door DON’T CLOSE THE DOOR”
It’s Color Theory EP 18.
Scooby Dooby Don’t
Trivia
This is the first Microsketch to feature Lyman, Coco, Tyler, and Chloe. This also marks Lyman’s second speaking role overall and the first episode since Tyler’s debut where he doesn’t speak.
This marks Tyler’s third consecutive appearance and the first episode in which he appears but Ingrid and Geneva don’t.
No Yellow or Violet Type Drewmans appear.
The fake parody names given here are all what the characters are literally named in the show’s version of Scooby-Doo. The Drewmans, unlike me, fear no copyright laws.
This is the first Microsketch to parody a specific franchise. This is also the first Microsketch to lack bloopers, instead having a post-episode skit.
After her difficulties walking the episode prior, Coco/Shooby is exclusively seen on all fours when in character.
Is Coco’s character a girl or is she playing a guy? I don’t really know.
While everyone else has a costume, Chloe/Irma only wears a palette swap of her usual outfit due to the ropes covering the insignia on her chest and her legs being offscreen eliminating the need to replace her pants with a skirt.
Despite debuting in episode three and already having a spotlight episode, this is the first time Peony’s colors are used for the title card.
Chloe is the only Primary Character to appear.
Noah and Lyman’s new “voices” are heard for the first time.
Ingrid Jelton wrote this sketch in-universe.
None of the characters use their regular outfits. This is also the first time a character appears but their face isn’t shown. In this case, it’s Tyler.
No, Tyler hasn’t died again.
This episode spoofs the “Scooby-Dooby Doors” bit by having the characters be trapped in the hall.
The pink cuffs on Peony’s sleeves disappear and reappear between shots…would you be willing to believe this was shot over the course of multiple in-universe days?

Character Bases
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Development
Tumblr media
Lyman’s prototype, Olly, was partially recycled into two other characters: Lucy, who was raised in the wild, and Cedric, who spends all his time in the woods and talks to animals. Rough Sketch reigned him back in and made him more of a hippie character, but the talking to animals remained before mutating into outright aura vision.
Tumblr media
From then on he became an archetypal stoner character despite never touching the stuff. His personality subsequently changed as ICT proper went on, going from zen and passive to far more alert and eccentric between his first and second appearances. As a side effect, he’s also a lot weirder than he used to be.

It’s Color Theory EP. 35
Traumedy
Trivia
This is the first appearance of Traumedy, the second appearance of Sykie, and the first episode to feature Headspace without Formblende. As of this episode, the Masterminds have an echo effect added to their voices.
Sykie’s voice is more emotive as of this episode. Similarly, Violet’s Brooklyn accent is written more phonetically into her dialogue.
This is Angie and Lyman’s first appearance since “‘Ello, ‘Elo, Y’ello”, ten episodes ago. This is the former’s first voiced appearance since “Violet and Scarlett”.
Only secondary colored Drewmans appear.

Lyman Keeze, the Lime Drewman
Be Observant
Rank: A- (Major Character)
Aesthetic: Creepy
Visual Inspirations
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other Character Bases
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Insomniac Empath
Lyman has potent powers that allow him to peer into the hearts of others and read their auras. This is pretty good for solving interpersonal conflicts and empathizing with others. Lyman’s usually chill enough to NOT constantly spew people’s secrets, too. Unfortunately, psychic powers and needing to sleep don’t mesh together well at all, so Lyman is constantly sleep deprived and lethargic; essentially high on the secrets of the universe.
On the rare occasions he’s not drowsy, Lyman’s surprisingly introspective and witty. Cartoons like It’s Color Theory exist in the mental realm, so Lyman can essentially read the universe itself. He tends to pick up a few things.
Fun Facts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lyman’s surname is a play on key lime pie.
Lyman is one of many characters to have changed names in development. In his case, his name was originally “Olly”.
Lyman is the only Season One character (obviously aside from Coco the dog) with facial hair.
Lyman, late in development, was meant to have dark green irises.
Lyman was originally designed as an archetypal hippie. The focus on his aura vision, originally a passive ability to talk to animals, eventually overtook this original idea. As a result, he is far more visually expressive than his relaxed Rough Sketch counterpart.
Lyman’s cat smile isn’t a stylistic choice. He actually has a cleft lip. Similarly, his discolored eyelids are from fatigue.
Lyman’s human form has faint freckles he lacks as a Drewman.
Lyman, unlike other green-eyed human characters, sports a brighter, more saturated shade of green for his irises.
Lyman’s aura vision derives from the Curse of the Reflective Eye he was born with, because why wouldn’t his plight be color themed?
Lyman wants the voices to stop.

“Your lucky numbers are 6, 83, and 19.”
It’s Color Theory EP 10.
Look Deep Inside
Trivia:
This is the first episode Lyman appears in since his debut back in episode three and his first speaking role.
Violet is the only Primary Character not to appear.
J.’s selective mutism debuts here. Notably, this is the first episode he appears in where there is written dialogue from other characters but he does not speak.
In this episode and certain ones after, Lyman’s sclerae display a mild reflective quality.
This is the first episode to show a character in their past. In this case, it is Chloe.
Peony is quick to try to dissuade Lyman from reading J., likely remembering her last encounter with the latter.
This is the first episode to have more than twelve panels.
Lyman’s aura vision was originally an ability he could not repress. While he still can’t turn it off, he can dial it down to a tolerable level.
Rudy and J. are directly stated to be brothers for the first time.

“Angie, I bench trucks.”
It’s Color Theory EP. 3
You and What Army?
Trivia:
Tumblr media
The original plan was for Angie and Gordon to remain seated throughout the comic until the end. A cut panel shows Gordon actually about to arm wrestle Angie.
Gordon’s ludicrous physical power becomes a running gag as of this episode.
This is the first episode in which Violet, Rudy, J., and Chloe don’t appear, the first to give Gordon extended dialogue, and the first to introduce characters outside of the Primary Six.
This is also the first episode in which Gordon strikes his signature wide-eyed look.
This marks the debut of Bryan, Peony, and Lyman.
No violet-type Drewmans appear in this episode.
While the wedding rings in each other’s main colors was a visual indicator, this episode confirms Violet and Gordon to be married.
This is the first episode to have a scene take place outside.
Unfortunately, Angie’s left handed.
