it's been pointed out before that super robot lifeform & gen selects primus were intentionally based on g1 rodimus. we don't think solus's helm in transformers one is intentionally similar 2 idw1 rodimus but there definitely is a similarity, which we 💜 as a trans rodimus enjoyer

(if you're wondering what our personal headcanon has been for years regarding various canon continuities, that would be rodimus as a transfemme, and we happily recognize reads in other ways as long as no punching down is involved)

Hanging out with family this week, chilling and having a good time.

I find out that one of my cousins has made a D&D one shot that he wants to run. Obviously that's the type of thing I like talking about, so I seek him out.

My first question is "What edition are you running?" to which he responds

"There are editions?"

I was quite taken aback by this because I assume if you know enough to run a game, you know what the game actually is. It legitimately took me 5 minutes of questioning to determine that he will be running a (modified) version of 5e.

Anyway, I predict that drunk aunts will completely derail the session in the first 30 minutes. But I wish him luck none-the-less!

to continue my tradition of mdzs height posting, another character besides mo xuanyu who is routinely and unjustly described as tiny: Wen Qing.

according to the officially released heights, she and jin guangyao are roughly the same size. about five and a half feet tall.

which is on the small side for a man even in china, though not in medieval china, and is ofc loads smaller than the ridiculous giants making up most of the cultivator elite, but is not actually a small person.

that's statistically above average for a woman even in the modern US; in modern china it is often hard for women that height to find off-the-rack clothes. in a historical chinese setting she is mildly gargantuan. five foot six is a positively unmaidenly height.

wei wuxian (as i've previously discussed) is slightly over six feet tall at his original full growth, which is stupid tall even when you're an aristocrat who didn't starve as a child. wen qing is, in turn, too tall for wei wuxian to hook his chin over her head, even if he stands on his toes, unless she ducks.

he's got maybe more than half a head on her. she could headbutt him in the nose from a standing start, as could most adult men because he's a freak.

wen qing would walk among a group of normal-in-context women like a turkey among hens. she is not tiny.

i know cql kind of made her look that way, but in fairness their version of lan wangji is a stick of no great height also. and even on cql she's not particularly small, just exceedingly pale and slim with big eyes. i truly do not know why it's so popular to conceptualize her as teeny-tiny, except maybe for the contrast value. it's not even hornyposting.

“i’m gay,” eddie tells him, in the bunk across from him when buck can barely make out his features in the dark. they’re supposed to be sleeping—they still have the other half of their forty-eight on ahead of them, and they’ve had enough rough calls. still, they’re the only ones in the bunk room. buck wonders if that’s the only reason eddie says it.

“oh,” says buck. he curls his fingers underneath his head and wills his eyes to adjust so he can better see eddie’s face. “eddie, that’s—that’s great.”

eddie lets out a soft chuckle. if their bunks were any closer, buck thinks he’d be able to feel the puff of air against his mouth. “is it?” he asks self-deprecatingly, and buck inhales sharply, always ready to defend him. “i’m kidding. it’s just… i’m thirty-five. i feel like i should have had an inkling by now, you know?”

“eddie,” buck whispers. “i had my gay awakening eight months ago.”

“it’s different,” says eddie immediately. there’s a ferocity in his voice that almost astounds buck—almost, until he realizes that same intensity was mirrored in his own blood only seconds ago. the devotion to defend, ingrained in them both. “it’s you.”

and there—the sincerity in those two words, simple as they seem but carrying the weight of something much bigger. buck’s mouth goes dry with something akin to hope.

“what does that mean?” he asks. outside of the bunkroom, something clatters to the floor and hen’s amused laughter peals through the station. buck thinks, not for the first time, that it’s no wonder this house is his happy place.

“buck…” eddie whispers. hesitant. and in that moment, buck knows.

“i want you,” buck says in a rush. there’s another word there, on the tip of his tongue, but he’s too afraid to say it. things get ruined when he says it, too soon or too intensely or too often. “i want to be with you, i think i’ve wanted to since we first met but i—i just didn’t realize it. it’s you, and it’s chris, and you’re it for me. you’re my family, and i want it. i want you.”

he’s so familiar with the lines of eddie’s face, the way it changes when eddie breathes or laughs or cries. and he can’t see it, not really, but he knows anyway that eddie is beaming at him, a small but hopeful thing. he thinks he’d know eddie’s face so familiarly even if he never got to see it again.

“buck,” eddie whispers again. there’s the sound of the bunk shifting and then, through the dark, eddie’s hand reaching for him. buck twines their fingers together like it’s something he’s done a hundred times before.

“did i say too much?” buck asks, suddenly terrified. it’s always been a delicate thing, him and eddie. and eddie just came out, buck thinks, so maybe it’s too soon, too quick too much too bad—

“evan,” eddie says reverently. just one word, buck’s name, and from eddie’s mouth it sounds better than it ever has before. it sounds rare, when eddie uses it. special. important. “i love you.”

oh, thinks buck.

“oh,” he says aloud. all of the static in his brain quiets, until there’s nothing to hear but the soft sounds of eddie breathing, and the suspended reality that exists outside of the bunkroom. “that’s good.”

“yeah?” eddie says, breathless and laughing and the most beautiful buck’s ever seen him even if the only thing buck can really see is the shine of eddie’s eyes.

“yeah,” buck mimics. he wants to kiss eddie—he wants to climb into eddie’s bunk with him and press their bodies together, for no purpose except for to feel the closeness and the warmth of eddie’s body heat, and he wants to kiss every inch of eddie’s face from his lips to the freckle underneath his left eye. but they’re at work, and the rest of their family is barely outside of this bubble they’ve created, and when buck kisses eddie for the first time he wants to do it right. so instead of crowding himself into eddie’s space, buck tells him, “because i love you, too.”

eddie laughs again. it’s beautiful. he’s always beautiful. buck loves him. “that’s good,” eddie repeats. “it’d kind of suck if you didn’t.”

“yeah,” buck agrees. he’s only just gotten a hint of this, of them, and he already knows he’s ruined for anyone else ever again.

“when the shift ends,” eddie begins, and buck’s fingers tighten around his, “come home with me. stay with me.”

buck huffs out a laugh. “you askin’ me to move in before you’ve even kissed me, diaz?”

“i’m asking you to move in so i can kiss you all the time,” eddie corrects. buck is powerless to stop the grin that spreads across his face.

“well, with an offer like that,” buck says, and eddie squeezes his fingers again and buck dreams of kissing those fingers one by one. buck loves him. they’re in love.

and for a moment, it’s the only thing that matters.

I'm sure it's been discussed at length already but I think it's easy to assume saiyans are strong so their genes are dominant but I (like to) think it's the opposite. It's interesting to think that the ecological nature of a saiyan is stealthy and invasive, and according to Jaco a saiyan invasion was going to be extra dangerous to earth because they look like earthlings (and a lot of other human-like races in the db universe) and one baby saiyan will easily go completely undetected until it starts the extermination process.

so it actually makes a lot of sense to me that a saiyan hybrid would take more physical traits from a local species, while maintaining the potential to house a saiyan's strength and inborn power over ki (which I think due to the story following a group of people who use it is a thing we often forgotten is a super rare and dangerous ability in that universe, and inborn/instinctive to a select few very powerful races). Could also be a fun way to explain why their tails can detach and grow back, since that may be the only real Tell.

because like yeah gohan and goten look like goku but they also look like chichi ykwim? trunks and bulla look like bulma. pan looks like videl. thoughts i chew on.

I also just find parasitism a real good meaty horror concept to put in my little 'this is why everyone's afraid of saiyans' headcanon file along with 'can see in the dark, biologically strategic energy consumption, can go long periods without food or rest' and of course the canonical 'surprise monkey werewolf kaiju'

I have an autistic level one (low support needs) character that doesn’t speak, but physically can. Just finds it painful (emotionally? not physically) and hard. He was mute before I decided he was autistic, and I want to know if it can be the sole cause for it? I’ve seen a lot of contradicting opinions on what being nonverbal means. He used to speak bc he is physically capable but he got comfortable w himself and others and doesn’t do it anymore, or very rarely. Can this be solely autism-related? I feel like it is not selective mutism because not speaking is simply what they prefers, not something caused by any particular emotion or anxiety. I experience that sometimes and would like to know if it can ever be permanent/full-time and in that case if it can be considered being non-verbal.

Autism is definitely a common reason for people to not speak, or to previously have been able to speak but no longer being able to do so, either at all or consistently.

Here's a blog post from Assistiveware, an AAC company, explaining intermittent, unreliable, insufficient, and expensive speech! It has its own resources. To me it seems like your character experiences intermittent or expensive speech — I hadn't heard of expensive speech before, but I knew of the other three — and is therefore semiverbal.

Nonverbal is more for people who don't speak (whether it's because they never do, or cannot), and people can become nonverbal without having been so their whole life. Sometimes it's extended to people who have maybe a couple words, like 1-5.

You could potentially describe your character as 'doesn't speak,' or 'rarely speaks,' and those are perfectly acceptable descriptions, too.

Even though it's canon that Makomo never actually met Sabito and Giyuu while she was still alive, I love how many people (including me) still pretend that they are a trio regardless. The vibes are just too strong.

But it makes me think though, if Gotouge may have originally intended for them to be a trio, but maybe scrapped the idea when they realize there's no hint of Makomo in Giyuu's design, except just having a slightly similar hairstyle.
