Restraining myself to just 2 and bc I'm predictable - Rose Thoughts and Our Game In Space?

Somebody else asked for Rose Thoughts and I’m trying to make sure that everyone gets an answer, but I will tag you in. (Also I warned you guys that most of these were brainstorming dumps rather than actual WIPs, so I’m just going to talk a lot about them I guess?)

We’ve talked about this a little but the driving force behind Our Game In Space is to appease your craving for the signature le Carré character dynamic best described as “theoretically a love triangle but spiritually more akin to a poorly-negotiated emotional threesome (now with more spies!)” with pure Star Wars idfic, relevant AO3 tag here.

Rough plot summary: Extremely early days of the Rebel Alliance, sudden Imperial crackdown creates absolute chaos on a planet where still-a-field-agent-not-yet-a-general Draven is doing spy work. He completely drops off the map for weeks. Everybody assumes he’s dead (and in fact after a while kind of hopes for that, since most of the alternative options are worse). Mon Mothma (who has been having a casual friendly affair with him) and Antoc Merrick (with whom he had a bunch of unspoken romantic tension) have what’s basically grief-and-comfort-driven funeral sex.

Surprise! Turns out he’s not dead. All parties involved proceed to have intensely confusing feelings, including but not limited to: guilt, I understood the dangerous realities of revolution intellectually but now I am confronting them emotionally, feelings? me? never met them, jealousy but nobody knows which direction it’s aimed in least of all me, and more guilt.

I feel like you get the most tension out of this premise with a single POV, however I have conflicting thoughts about whose to write it in because:

Mon Mothma Upside: I’ve always wanted to write fic from her perspective; women never get a POV when le Carré does this kind of thing; probably the most insightful about precisely what’s going on here and thus the most straightforward to write

Downside: Probably the most insightful about what’s actually going on here and thus the least entertaining in terms of Absolute Feels Catastrophe; “dealing with my fucked up love life” was not the fic I envisioned when I thought about writing a story from her perspective

Merrick Upside: He’s a tender-hearted sort and thus quite possibly having the worst time here, and therefore very compelling in terms of Absolute Feels Catastrophe

Downside: fun fact, deep down Your Author is also an emotionally stilted Englishman and while I live for the angst, I prefer the tell-all-the-truth-but-tell-it-slant style of writing it otherwise I get far more embarrassed about writing Feelings Porn than I ever have about writing actual sex

Draven Upside: He’s the spy here and also probably the least self-aware about his own emotional life imo, which means that for Maximum Le Carré Style Feels Bingo he makes the most sense

Downside: I am already writing another fic in his POV, it will not die, and I wish to be  f r e e  o f  h i m

As a result the draft is mostly scenes rewritten three different ways, interspersed with brackets reminding myself to come back and write the Feelings Porn in more depth when I work up the nerve.
