Okay, I have the strangest question.

Me and my grandpa talked today and he wants to talk a few times a week to learn more about me, my generation, our ideas, and the like. Today I told him what instagram was, but that’s beside the point. He is asking me to ask my friends (you all! 🤗) what we believe was the boomers’ biggest mistake

The poll is primarily satirical but I would like y’all to genuinely answer, he’s kind of trying to form an opinion on gen z, and I think it’d be helpful.

tbh, digital genz nostalgia really only applies to most or half of us. the rest of us were not allowed to have cell phones or internet access because media like “to catch a predator” convinced our parents that any trauma we experience was not their fault, rather the fault of strangers on the internet. I have no tumblr nostalgia because I didn’t have a smartphone until 2019. I used gmail on the 3ds web browser to communicate with classmates about work or with friends about my physical safety because contacting ANYONE on my laptop would mean being grounded for months and months. I watched Gen Z grow up online from a distance, only participating when I could sneak onto software I jailbroke onto whatever low powered technology I could get to run it, because actually engaging with others wasn’t allowed. My nostalgia is mostly for nineties tech because I couldn’t text anyone on a tape recorder. I know I’m not the only one. Who else was forcibly isolated outside of school by paranoid or malevolent guardians?
