Help Save our Bisexual Baby Witch, his Destructo-Bomb GF & his Punk Croissant BF
the cast of Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself have tweeted that this is a CRUCIAL week for getting views for the show. if you haven't heard of it this is an incredible netflix show with AMAZING representation (poc, bisexual, queer & poly characters).
"Magical and brutal, this Netflix adaptation explores prejudice and family lineage, while presenting a nuanced portrait of teenage sexuality at the same time. [It is about] how the systems of power affect children and provides a nuanced look at identity and determinism" - via Linda Codega, just one of many positive reviews for the show including a 92% score on rotten tomatoes
help us get a second season by streaming the show ASAP! even if you don't watch it, just have it playing in the background (as long as it isn't muted.) rewatches also help! we are so grateful for any views and help to signal boost <3 this show means a lot to us both bc of the rep and how badly we want to see more of these chars
if you need more of a reason, just look at how cute the main poly relationship is
Tumblr media
please help us get a second season for more of this incredible representation and story! check out Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself and tell your friends!

Okay. So. How do you write bisexual characters?
(For the record, I, as a bisexual myself, already know how to do this. I just want to see how other people do so to see, like, their take on it, if that makes any sense at all.)
hi! so, this is once again very broad. "how do you write bisexual characters" is a big thing, but i think i know what you're trying to ask.
first of all, since you're bi too, you can take a lot of liberties that non-bi people can't. you can go closer to stereotypes and dissect them from the inside, because you are on the inside. We as bi people can talk about the experiences of being bi, how we confront stereotypes, internalized biphobia, etc. basically, you have license to play around with bi characters however you want, as a bi person.
but for the rest of this, i'll direct it more generally, advice that could be given to bi people and non-bi people alike.
first thing to note: i am one bi person. i do not speak for all bi people. if non-bi people read this and expect to immediately understand everything ever about bi rep... no. stop. bad. i'm spraying you with a spray bottle right now as if you're a misbehaving cat.
i'm one dude on the internet. in fact, i'm gonna mention @yourbookcouldbegayer, here; it's a good idea to also ask them shit. ask more than one person! (again, not you specifically. you're bi. do whatever the hell you want.)
anyway, onward.
the main thing:
bi people are people, first. while you should make sure your bi character isn't, like, some terrible stereotype of bisexuals, when it comes down to it, if you make a fully-fleshed out 3 dimensional character who also happens to be bi, i think most bi people will be happy with that.
some things to avoid (for non-bis):
please do not make your bi characters promiscuous, cheaters, overly flirty/sexual, or known for never staying in relationships long. it's really tiring to see bi people categorized like this. If you do have bi characters like this, for the love of god, have more than one bi character, and make sure your other bi character isn't like that. there's nothing wrong with being the above things! (except a cheater. cheaters are terrible.) and you can have bi characters who are. but a lot of people, especially non-queer folk, see all bi people as being like that, and that's bad.
additionally, tread carefully with polyamorous bi characters. i am saying this as a polyam. that doesn't mean don't have polyam bi people! it means that a lot of people see every bi ever as polyam.
and if you make your bi character "a lesbian when she's dating girls and straight when she's dating boys" or "gay when he's dating boys and straight when he's dating girls" i will eat your shoes. that is a threat. Orientation doesn't work that way!! bi people aren't just constantly flipping between gay and straight!!
don't do the "they're just calling themselves bi for attention and are actually gay/straight" thing, either. that is also bad. Bi people are bi.
finally, if you're not bi or some other mspec identity, don't write a story about what it's like to be bi or biphobia. you can have bi characters and bi protagonists, but you don't know what it's like to be bi or to navigate biphobia.
some things i, as a bi person, want to see more of (other bis feel free to add!!):
aspec bi people! trans bi people! bi people in loving, committed relationships! bi people who are single and totally cool with it! disabled, mentally ill and neurodivergent bi people! bi poc! bi4bi relationships! bi people with bi friends (and queer friends in general)! bi-oriented aroaces! bi people who love being bi! bi parents! BI PROTAGONISTS!
i am extra-serious on the last one. While i don't want non-bi people to write about *being* bi (like i said), i am DESPERATE to see bi protagonists/POVs. write about bi space captains, bi dragon-riders, bi superheroes, bi chosen ones, bi people navigating the apocalypse, bi people in cute fluffy romances. it's nice being in stories at all, but sometimes you wanna be more than a side character, yknow?
bi people feel free to add on! and if you disagreed with something, please do tell--as i said, we're not a hivemind, and every bi person is different.

I know many, many people have said this before but I was talking with a friend last night and she brought up how different cultures have different standards for what ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ sexuality and gender look like.
It’s something I’ve been trying to articulate for a while now about why exclusionary practices are based in eurocentrism and racism and xenophobia, and i’m not sure i have it totally thought out but I’m gonna give it a go.
She(a black woman) brought up how ingrained into the Black experience white heteronormativity is, and how if the Black idea of what ‘queerness’ is was expanded, a lot more Black people would likely be comfortable identifying as some sort of queer. Because queer only really means, ‘differing in some way from what is usual or normal : odd, strange, weird.‘
She brought up how a lot of the expectations of both Black men and women are based either in conforming to whiteness or conforming to the Black community’s rejection of it, and how these are seen as ‘straight’ identities even though they are completely separate and often restrictive in their actualization. That so many of the body-image issues POC have are due to eurocentric beauty standards.
If you take a ‘cis man’ and a ‘cis woman’ who identify completely within their cultural genders (say, a Sikh man or an Indigenous woman or a Black American woman or a Mexican man or a Hassidic Jewish man or a Korean woman etc etc etc) all of those presentations of what ‘gender’ means to that culture are completely different. (Not to mention the .... incalculable different phenotypical  presentations of ‘cis’ gender that exist.)
And then of course add in that many cultures already *have* identities that under a colonialist lens are viewed as ‘queer’. The entire umbrella of Indigenous two-spirit identities is in and of itself a colonial conglomeration of hundreds of distinct cultural identities, all of which are ‘queer’ only in the sense that they are not definable by western gender norms. But within their own cultures these people are not viewed as ‘different’ or ‘queer’ but just another way to present an identity.
So, basically, the point that I’m trying to make is that there is no real way to define ‘queer’ - or even being Gay or Lesbian to be completely exclusinist - that does not racialize gender, because gender as white people understand it is already racialized and based on a perception of gender that conforms only to white standards of physical presentation. And so in truth I think the pushback against queer inclusivity cannot be separated from the pushback against normalizing non-white perceptions of gender, and from the expected assimilation by people of color.
Because once you recognize that there are literally millions of different ways to present even a cis-heterosexual gender, culturally(and this isn’t even getting into mixed race people or people who grew up in culturally diverse areas!), it becomes clear that there cannot be a single way to define what someone is, or what someone can identify as or present as, and therefore what people can be ‘attracted’ to in order to identify as a thing.
Saying that there is one ‘true’ experience of womanhood, or maleness, or gayness, or lesbianism, based on who or what people are attracted to is invalidating the millions of different ways sex, gender, and selfhood can be expressed.
To say that someone ‘cannot’ identify as part of the LGBT+ community because they are gender or socially nonconforming but don’t necessarily experience same-sex attraction (and yes I specifically left room for this to include trans, intersex, and polyam/leather/BDSM heterosexuals) is to invalidate the experiences of gender and society that fall outside the white perception.

an american's rant on america tw: everything to do with american history
dni if: you think the usa is on any level acceptable.
we are a country founded on the corpses of indigenous people and the backs of black slaves.
we have roads sponsored by the kkk
our political structure kills nuance and allows biden to beat out bearnie and republicans to gloat about jerrymandering without any repercussions.
we literally let a d-list celebrity become our leader, and after numerous attempts to blatantly disrupt the "integrity" of our system, was allowed to leave without being in jail
our prison system is basically American slavery and I can't imagine we'll see it end in my lifetime
we outlaw drugs, but politicians with ties to Epstein are still allowed to hold power
we treat POC's and mentally ill people worse than bigots and predators with privilege
as long as they have a police badge, serial killers are compensated for their killing spree
homeless people are considered parasitic while the rich are not.
your personal connection to cops clouds your judgment
a wage gap exists
food is thrown away, rather than feeding the hungry.
the exclusion of queer and non-christian rights creates 2nd class citizens
the entire history of how white people gained "ownership" of the country.
i have had endure a flat-earther calling me confused for being nonbinary, to keep myself physically safe.
people can spread antisemitic/antiqueer/antipoc/ablest hate speech without fear of repercussion, whilst any perceived threat to the status quo is treated with the utmost seriousness.
nazis can be proud and open and be recommended to people while queer content creators are demonetized
the constant attack on trans and gay rights/the outright erasure of bi, pan, ace, aro, polyam folk
the documented proof that shows get canceled because girls/women like them
women are treated like a separate species eg: representation is a black man, a gay white man, a Vietnamese man, and a white woman
homeless is allowed to exist while operations get tax write-offs
politicians are allowed to invest in stock
politicians are not forced to live at the lowest quality of life they allow. eg: politicians with homeless constituents are not forced to live on $0 income and live in skid row. [this is a personal thing, but I do believe it should be instated univerally]
the zodiac killer is still a politician
we do not give presidents 12 life sentences w/o parole for all the war crimes and crimes against their country.
Disney has more rights than black Americans
every single living person is not given a home, clothes, food, water, power, internet, and a phone by the virtue those are all required to live in modern society (you can't pay bills, apply for a job, or get most services you need w/o internet anymore)
we have an immigration policy that isn't open borders. like. white people. denying immigrants. in the USA. is completely disgusting.
corperations have more rights than actual people
capitalism
the list goes on for years

I was in the shower when I got an amazing idea. So just- hear me out
Merlin, but with an all female cast
Why? You may ask... uhhh lesbians with swords in armor??? Yea ngl that was my only thought at first.
Maybe even a more diverse cast, with more poc But wait! There’s more!
So all female cast...well there’s obviously going to be some gucci gay shit now! (cue Gwen marrying Arthur, and no I’m not changing Arthur to a more ‘girly’ name bc tbh who said names had to be for one gender) not only that though!
In BBC Merlin there always seemed to be some gay stuff happening (eye-sex, gwaine doing anything for Merlin, etc) sooo if there’s all this chemistry between so many characters...why not polyam? Now, this may just be my multi-shipper heart speaking but, can you imagine😍
Lancelot and Gwen would get there rightly deserved romance.
Lancelot and Merlin, Gwaine and Merlin, Arthur and Merlin, Gwen and Merlin...guys so many people are in love with Merlin...
May i add... Morgana and Gwen... Morgana and Merlin... JUST ALL OF CAMELOT DATING EACH OTHER
oh how could I forget Gwaine, Percy, and Elyan getting together!
Maybe give or take a few of those idk🤷🏽
ALSO GIVING THE KNIGHTS MORE LINE AND SCREEN TIME AND THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACHOTHER AND MERLIN BECAYSE IM UPSET WE DIDNT SEE MUCH OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP IN THE ACTUAL SHOW
So polyam lesbians with swords and magic everybody! I’ll write more about the plot later,,,but for now I have ramen I need to eat

dimension 20: an explainer
ok so i’ve decided to finally make a post about dimension 20 to try and drag as many people in here with me as i can!!!!
do you want to watch something extremely funny, heartwarming, and diverse that will give you so many found family feelings? dimension 20 is here for you.
dimension 20 is a dungeons & dragons actual play show featuring GORGEOUS battle sets and brennan lee mulligan as the magnificent DM. there are two main campaigns (a third one coming out in april) which are 17 episodes each and feature the same cast, and two unrelated “sidequests” which are only 6 episodes each and feature different casts.
what i love about the casting is that the cast for the main campaign includes:
zac oyama and lou wilson, two incredible icons of colour
ally beardsley, the most wonderful chaotic nonbinary gay icon
and 3 out of 6 of the players for escape from the bloodkeep are poc!!! WE LOVE TO SEE IT
dimension 20 hires sensitivity consultants as well!! which makes me very happy. you can tell they really put a lot of thought and care into great representation 💜
all of dimension 20 is available to watch via dropout.tv. i personally think the dropout subscription is totally worth it as there’s like... a total of probably 120+ hours of content for dimension 20?? and dropout is like £4 ($5 or something??) a month. but a lot of the content is available on youtube, and there’s also a free trial on dropout, so you don’t have to pay for any of it if you can’t afford it.
main campaigns (17 episodes each):
1. fantasy high: available to watch for free on youtube starting here
my favourite. this is an awesome YA fantasy story set basically in a magical version of US suburbia about a bunch of nerdy awkward teenagers during their first year of high school at the aguefort adventuring academy. just a bunch of kids trying to figure out who they are and who they want to become while also solving mysteries and fighting monsters!!
this campaign technically has 2 seasons but the second season (sophomore year) is a live show rather than pre-recorded and does not feature any battle sets, so it’s branded as “dimension 20 live” rather than “dimension 20”. (this was really confusing for me at first.) sophomore year is mostly only available on dropout at the moment.
overall (taking into account sophomore year) it’s a very gay campaign:
2 of the PCs are canonically queer (one is a lesbian; the other is probably bi)
there are at least three regular NPCs who are queer (one gay dude; two lesbians including an autistic black girl!)
there’s an NPC who is a NONBINARY BI POLYAM PIRATE AND I LOVE THEM
2. the unsleeping city: available on dropout for a subscription fee (but there’s a free trial)
urban fantasy set in new york city! there’s a thrilling fight set during a broadway musical! one of the characters is a dirty rat man and he will make you cry! another is an older black man who has dedicated his life to serving the people of new york and he will ALSO make you cry! ally beardsley plays an extremely chaotic trans guy!! the ultimate enemy is capitalism! also there are so many pigeons! it’s beautiful and full of thoughts about what the american dream means for different people.
the first eight eps are free on youtube but not the rest, for some reason?
3. a crown of candy: as yet unreleased season set in 🍭CANDYLAND🍭, first ep dropping 8th april on dropout! LOOK AT THE SHINY TRAILER HERE and tell me that doesn’t make you want to SCREAM with delight at the brilliant aesthetic
sidequests (6 episodes each):
1. escape from the bloodkeep: available to watch for free on youtube starting here
basically the ending of lord of the rings, from the point of view of the villains. very delightful. there’s a hot spider mom! a sexy pirate! a wet elf! an evil version of hagrid! a useless nazgûl! and an evil princess who is pregnant with the child of the lord of shadows! they all form unexpected bonds with each other and get through their terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day (seriously, the whole campaign takes place over the span of one day) TOGETHER ✨
2. tiny heist: available on dropout for a subscription fee (but there’s a free trial)
this one has the mcelroys! it’s a HEIST, but TINY! basically it’s toy story crossed with oceans eleven and if that doesn’t make you want to watch it then idk you. here’s the first ep free on youtube
AAAAND THAT’S IT! hit me up if you have any questions about the show and if any of you start watching it i WILL want you to come talk to me about it PLEASE 🙇🏻

If you aren’t supporting the trans people who don’t fit your “perfect” ideals for a trans person, you are not our ally.
I better be out here seeing you cowards supporting PoC, fat, nondysphoric, poor, nonbinary, xenogendered, GNC, mentally ill, disabled, autistic, lesbian, bi, pan, polyam, gay, intersex, aspec, and neopronoun-using trans people of any AGAB and ASAB

Prides almost over and, tbh, all I keep thinking about is how younger folk and a growing small segment of our community keeps adopting TERF/white supremacist talking points because of how accessible they are
How TERFs/white supremacist have done a really good job at adopting and reshaping leftist lingo, making exclusionary beliefs that are fascist friendly appealing to many by insisting that cishets won't accept queer folk without removing folks from the community that are harder to assimilate into cisheteronormativity
And how a lot of dialogue/history concerning queer identity is either inaccessible, locked behind pay walls or academic language, or erased to such an extent that people have bare minimum idea of the contributions and history of queer folk (especially POC!) beyond sharing a post about Marsha P. Johnson, Slyvia Rivera, Storme DeLarverie, and maybe Miss Major every Pride
Hell, we talk about Stonewall like it was a mythological war that shaped and changed everything before and after, a war where everything past and present is an inconvenient footnote rather than the foundation and further building of the community we have now
Like it is genuinely painful to see folks have some of the goofiest debates on how cis lesbians should only have access to crap like butch/femme, as if queer black & latinx queer/trans women, gay men, drag queens, and gender nonconforming folk didn't pave the way to yal knowing those terms in the first fucking place
Or how queer is a slur rhetoric is so divided from queer history and reality itself that we can't even discuss how nearly every single identity under the queer umbrella, from gay, bisexual, transgender, etc, has been used and been a slur at some point in time, with queer never starting as a slur but becoming one the moment cishets caught on to the term and used our identities as a brand to be ashamed of
Or how POC have had gender identities that don't conform to the gender binary for hundreds of years, all while the rigid gender binary itself is a recent creation in human history and has a white supremacist history in it's creation/promotion in the same way homophobia, transphobia, etc has similar colonialist white supremacist (largely Christian tied) roots
Or hey, to shift gears, how kink and polyamoury has a queer history where folks from both the queer community and the polyam/kink community was marching along and celebrating with us, just for yal to discard them as inconvenient, largely cishet, and inappropriate (or "not safe for minors") the moment pride went from being a celebratory riot to a capitalist cop friendly parade where only a select few are invited
There's so many things that are overlooked during pride, and yea part of that is cause a ton of us still just want to survive and celebrate what we can for two fucking seconds, but it's painful to see the same thing year after year
The same useless af arguments being spread by people who are detrimental to the community and the same nonstop, basic as fuck, "just enough to know but not enough to learn a damn thing" acknowledgement of our shared history
And I'm just tired of it
