Since I promise @thishumanformislimiting I would share an old story, here it is (the story is from September 2022 btw)

My eyes popped open, surveying my surroundings. The room I was in had bland wall as with boring paintings scattered throughout. There was a couch, a nightstand with an alarm clock that said 1:24 am in bright red lights, and there was a small bathroom by the door. It was obvious that I was in a hotel room. But why? Last night’s events suddenly flashed in my mind like a movie. I’d been walking home from a friends house after dark. Usually I’d use a shortcut that I knew to avoid breaking curfew, but I’d lost track of time and use a more risky path that was quicker. Suddenly, someone threw a sack on me and dragged me to what I assumed was a car, and I’d passed out. Now here I was in a mysterious hotel who knows where. Thankfully I was alone, so I got out of the boring white bed. I had no idea where I was or what to do, but I knew I had to escape, so I slipped on my shoes, gathered my courage, and opened the door.

“You must keep eyes on the patient at all times.” The Doc had told me before leaving. And honestly, I did! But then I really needed to go to the bathroom. So… I did. Without calling someone else to watch her. Oops! I mean, I thought she would stay in her bed like a good patient, so is it really my fault if she escaped. Plus, I even called the Doc as soon as I came back and saw the empty, messed up white bed. Doesn’t that count for anything? Apparently not, because now I was in the Doc’s office, listening to his lecture. “How are the people going to react when we tell them that a patient of the Crystaltown Asylum that had been here for less than 24 HOURS escaped?!” He was shouting now and I winced, waiting for it to be over. “Luna Hernandez, you are FIRED!” I walked out of his office thinking, ‘Actually, I’m Gabby Hernandez and my twin sister is Luna.’ I sighed, thinking that if Luna hadn’t told me to replace her for just ONE day she’d have her job.

Uhm… yeah. So if you couldn’t tell the two stories went together I think I tried to make it so the first girl who thought she was kidnapped was actually insane and she escaped?? Idk I thought I was smart when I wrote this but whatever

Do you think that the drop in new talented juniors during the Tokyo quad could also be due to more gymnasts not attempting elite/going to level 10 earlier? With all the scandals surrounding usag I certainly wouldn't blame them. Plus college gymnastics seems to have gotten even more popular the last few years.

I think there is more lag in this than that. I think the Nassar scandal and upheaval at USAG doesn't make people switch quite that fast but I think relative lack of depth in this (the Paris) quad can be attributed to that.

sleep: I slept for around 6.5 hours yesterday, not terrible, but honestly did not want to wale up those morning

ate: a subway sand which for lunch, and a grilled cheese and tomato soup for a snack at kerkhoff

day: Today was a pretty long day. I woke up and went straight to kerkhoff, and tried to get some work done while I was there. I then went to my biology lecture and straight to my ge class. After I met up with ms. Ellie park and got some boba. Then Jocelyn and I met up and went to Ms. Gabbie Hernandez’s apartment to play some fortnite. Unfortunately we did not get any wins but it was still fun

today was overall a 7/10 since I got to play Fortnite for the first time in a while

"I understood a little better why Mami's rhythm never seemed all the way right in America, why she could love this place I'd never seen as fiercely as I love Chicago. There are different magics to these lands, and maybe there's nothing worse than being separated from the magic you love best." Pilar Ramirez and the Curse of San Zenon by Julian Randall was a magical tale filled with magic, monsters, family, and Dominican history. It was fast paced and jumped right into the action from the start. I loved how it tackled Dominican history, especially the era of Trujillo and it was full of Dominican folklore. I love a good ciguapa and cucitos story and this one did not disappoint. This was also an ode to Dominican revolutionaries. I caught the subtle nod to the Mirabal sisters aka The Mariposas and the celebration of Dominican women as community leaders and keepers of the history. It was a reminder that love of family keeps the homeland alive in the heart. It also explains why immigrant communities will always be tethered to their native soils. It was also nice to see Pilar, a middle schooler recognize how tourism can mirror colonialism I. The ways that it erases people and their histories with oppression. I was extra happy to see the Afro-Latinx representation. The gorgeous cover made me smile. Even though this was the second book in the series, it is easy to follow and never gets confusing. If you love Latinx stories that are full of fantasy, family and folklore, here's some recommendations to read after this series: 🧿 Sal & Gabby Break the Universe series- Carlos Hernandez 🧿 The Storm Runner series- J.C.
