I am very much not interested in AI generated images, every time I see one I feel like the last jolts of motivation I have left in me are dying, and anything “AI art” related from making it to sharing it is very harmful to real human artist who have spent years developing their skills (and not just few hours to generate an image from stolen artworks) so if you support it in any way please unfollow me because it’s clearly not a place for you.

Replayed CTRNF to show my husband the game a few weeks ago. When I got to the part of Pinstripe's challenge where he takes the key out I swore he was going to pull out a knife instead and shank N.GIN (my main) and I started laughing so hard I almost threw up so I thought it'd be funny to draw (ft. pinstripe with a tail)

The government is auctioning off plots of pristine Indigenous reserves for fossil fuel projects, with campaigners warning of a ‘silent genocide’ Above the canopy of the tallest trees that vie for sunlight in the depths of the Peruvian Amazon, gas flares shoot into the sky. Below, Julio Cusurichi, 53, can see the thick, dark grease that clings to the leaves and the toxins leaking into the streams. “Oil and gas projects are coming closer and closer. They are expanding into new lands,” says Cusurichi, a member of the Shipibo-Conibo people, a Goldman prize winner and one of Peru’s foremost Indigenous leaders. “Our territory is our life, but the government is auctioning off plots. It is a great invasion with a grave impact.” Oil and gas have been extracted from some of Peru’s most biologically diverse territories for decades. Now, researchers warn, companies are expanding further into the lands of some of the last uncontacted Indigenous peoples. Peru is home to one of the world’s largest populations of “peoples in isolation and initial contact” (Piaci), estimated at 7,500 by the government. Their territories comprise some of the most intact areas of the Amazon. Yet, recent analysis by Earth Insight has found that Peru’s current and proposed oil and gas blocks overlap with 20% – or 1.6m hectares (3.95m acres) – of reserves for these communities. Researchers warn of devastating effects on health and the species-rich environment, with frequent spills coating the lush rainforest in black sludge. The consequences of this pollution are still being investigated, but initial conclusions are devastating. In Peru, women report nausea and miscarriages, while men talk about developing skin rashes and unexplained illnesses after oil and gas mining begins. According to Cusurichi, a health crisis is under way among uncontacted Amazonian peoples due to large-scale fossil fuel exploitation.

Can a Youtube employee that actually cares (if there is one...) please kindly get the spamming bots TO FUCK OFF!?! HONESTLY, I'M READING THE COMMENTS ON FILM THEORY AND BIG BUSINESSES USING AI ILLEGALLY AND ALL I SEE IN THE REPLIES IS
"MaTpAT iS lEaViNg I'M hAvInG a PaRtY mY tHeOrIeS aRe BeTeRRR"
Stupid. FUCKING. BOTS! IN A VIDEO ABOUT AI THEFT AND BIG BUSINESSES USING PROPAGANDA TO EASE THE AVERAGE PERSON INTO ACCEPTING AI ART AND ACTORS!
I don't know what's worse; the disrespect to the topic and MatPat, the irony of the situation, or how there don't seem to be any comforting facts in the videos about AI theft. We're all just frogs boiling, like he said.
I'm probably overreacting. It's just there so much shit going on in my life right now that I don't feel comfortable talking about. I don't want to trauma dump on my friends. I don't want to pour all of my emotions out on some post that takes hours to make and nobody even notices.
I'm just going to go see if I can distract myself because it's all I can do. Barely works, but it's the only thing I've been able to do for months without getting snapped at for DARING to have emotional responses to a shit situation.

Zeal went and made himself an arcanely charged camera!
When he went to the fancy party they had cameras there for guests to use, and Zeal become obsessed. Cameras are expensive, and so Zeal figured he'd just make his own, using Arcana to substitute mechanical components he doesn't understand/have ready access to. The result is he has to use spell slots to create photographs, but now he can take selfies to his hearts content granted he has the slots for it.
He wanted a photo with Xan very badly, but since Xan really can't be known to the general public and is in the business of keeping secret, Zeal wasn't allowed to keep this photograph. It sits on Xan's desk at home though in a nice frame where they will promptly show it off to their coworkers and brag about how smart their son is for making his own camera. :]
The camera takes photos in sepia/gold (per Z's magic), but I had done the image in color originally, so ya'll can have it even if its non canon.

why do leftists always have one area they’re completely mask off in. from minimising fatphobia (and/or being outright fatphobic), to using “gay” as an insult, to saying being trans is defined by gender dysphoria, to subconsciously always favouring the whites in fandom and saying “why can’t you just let people enjoy things” when called out, to deciding asexuality or polyamory or enbies are “cringe” identites: why the hell are leftists some of the worst bigots I’ve ever had to deal with?

Ai art isnt art this is my opinion and it wont change
I'm starting to see AI art in fanart tags and even when they are tagged as AI art, people in the reblogs tagged it as fanart.
Let me just say this once. I don't believe AI art is fanart. The way things are, it's theft. It doesn't count. The effort that fan artists put into their works cannot be equated in value with whatever an AI generates. The works with hours of applied skill and originality and love put into them are the works I want to praise on this blog.
So that being said, if I ever reblog "fanart" that is ai generated, please send me a message or an ask and let me know so I can delete it off my blog.

i'd argue that is because the theft is not happening at the generated end but at the training end. the stolen images are used to train an algorithm which very much makes the companies money, meaning they ARE turning a profit off of the back of other people's work.
if i use midjourney to create a picture of hatsune miku with huge tits and an ass to match (entirely hypothetical, i could draw that with my eyes closed) i am not committing theft but i AM using a tool built on theft. midjourney, inc. stole the works allowing me to do it, by using pictures to train their algorithm to recognise hatsune miku and big tits and giant asses, but my use of the program would not be the problem here.
so all this to say this is entirely a "don't use my work for things i don't want it used for thank you very much" issue, especially since even if you can have your work removed from a training set, you can't UN-TRAIN the algorithm. once your work has been used, that's that and there's nothing you can do.
the problem is not individuals using tools put at their disposal, even if they make money off of it i'd argue it's honestly kinda whatever. who cares if johnny bluecheck makes 50 bucks a month generating mid-tier softcore porn for people who would never pay a real artist anyway. the problem is corporations turning a profit on the back of people who never agreed to have their work used in that way.
the most frustrating thing about AI Art from a Discourse perspective is that the actual violation involved is pretty nebulous
like, the guys "laundering" specific artists' styles through AI models to mimic them for profit know exactly what they're doing, and it's extremely gross
but we cannot establish "my work was scraped from the public internet and used as part of a dataset for teaching a program what a painting of a tree looks like, without anyone asking or paying me" as, legally, Theft with a capital T. not only is this DMCA Logic which would be a nightmare for 99% of artists if enforced to its conclusion, it's not the right word for what's happening
the actual Violation here is that previously, "I can post my artwork to share with others for free, with minimal risk" was a safe assumption, which created a pretty generous culture of sharing artwork online. most (noteworthy) potential abuses of this digital commons were straightforwardly plagiarism in a way anyone could understand
but the way that generative AI uses its training data is significantly more complicated - there is a clear violation of trust involved, and often malicious intent, but most of the common arguments used to describe this fall short and end up in worse territory
by which I mean, it's hard to put forward an actual moral/legal solution unless you're willing to argue:
Potential sales "lost" count as Theft (so you should in fact stop sharing your Netflix password)
No amount of alteration makes it acceptable to use someone else's art in the production of other art without permission and/or compensation (this would kill entire artistic mediums and benefit nobody but Disney)
Art Styles should be considered Intellectual Property in an enforceable way (impossibly bad, are you kidding me)
it's extremely annoying to talk about, because you'll see people straight up gloating about their Intent To Plagiarize, but it's hard to stick them with any specific crime beyond Generally Scummy Behavior unless you want to create some truly horrible precedents and usher in The Thousand Year Reign of Intellectual Property Law

"FOUR BURGLARIES, THEFTS OF AUTOS BELIEVED SOLVED," Niagara Falls Review. August 16, 1932. Page 1 & 5. --- Four youths are in custody, and make statements to police ---- TICKETS TO BOYS ---- Conductor noted numbers and arrest of the four followed ---- Four burglaries and the theft of two automobiles staged in this city during the past few weeks are believed cleaned up by Detective George Hughes of the City Police department, and four young men are under arrest charged with breaking and entering. They were arrested yesterday afternoon by Detective George Hughes and Constable Cecil Pay and appeared in police court this morning. Without being asked to plead they were remanded for trial until August. 23.
The police said today the youths gave their statements admitting their participation in the robberies. Grandmason and Lascelles are remanded in custody and the other boys were released on their own recognizance.
Those under arrest are Arthur Grandmason, sixteen years old, of River Roard; Leslie Murray Lascelles, 16, of Ryerson Crescent, and two other youths. Grandmason pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing 180 tickets from the International Railway Company depot at Chippawa last week and, was remanded until August 23 for sentence. He is also. charged with taking a car owned by Hugh Munro from the garage at his residence 1070 Armoury Avenue, the night of August 10; taking Wendell Musgrove's small car from his residence at 457 John Street on August 6; breaking and entering Bredin's bakery on July 30 taking a quantity of cakes; breaking and entering Roy Woolnough's store, on Palmer Avenue, July 5, and stealing twenty packages of cigarettes, marshmallows, candy, cakes and $2.70 in change; and breaking into Robert Delaney's refreshment booth on Palmer Avenue, August 10 taking 20 packages of cigarettes.
Lascelles is charged with breaking into Mrs. Bird's shop, 939 St. Clair avenue last May stealing $90 from the cash drawer and a cheque for $10 on the Imperial Bank made out to Samuel Speakman. It is also charged that he broke into Woolnough's shop. Bredin's Bakerery, Delaney's confectionery booth and took Hugh Munro's car with Grandmason without the owner's consent.
The other youths appeared in court for the first time and they were charged with breaking and Jentering Mrs. Bird's store.
The alertness of a conductor on the International Railway Company's car brought about the arrest of Grandmason in connection with the robbery at the Chippawa station, in which 180 commuters tickets were stolen.
Grandmason gave a few of the tickets to some small boys to ride on the street car to Dufferin Islands. The boys presented them on the car and the conductor immediately noticed the number on the tickets and handed the youths over to Chief Perry at Chippawa.
Grandmason was charged with having stolen goods in his possession, and the other boys were similarly charged. After Grandmason pleaded guilty to the charge in court today the Magistrate dismissed the charges against the other boys stating that they evidently didn't know the tickets were stolen when they accepted Grandmason's gift.
The remainder tickets were thrown over the river bank at the foot of Seneca street and they were recovered by Grandmason's brother who promptly turned them over to the court. Chief Perry took possession of them and they will be returned to the International Railway depot Grandmason told the police he got into the station through the window on the west side.
The police say that the night Munro's car was taken out of the garage Lascelles and Grandmason drove to Niagara-on-the-Lake, and returned to the city breaking into Delaney's refreshment stand.
They forced the door at the rear of the building, and after taking twenty packages of cigarettes drove to Chippawa where Grandmason broke into the International Railway depot about two o'clock the following morning. They left the automobile in the driveway at Munro's house police say.
They used Musgrove's car for a Joyride the police say. When it ran out of gas they siphoned fuel from two other machines and also blew the muffler off, before abandoning the car in front of Musgrove's residence just before daybreak.
Detective George Hughes recovered the cheque stolen from Mrs. Bird's store the following day. A man who had shelter in the police station on the night of May 20 while strolling below the river bank in the vicinity of Seneca street said he came across the cheque. He took it to the Imperial Bank, Bridge Street branch and attempted to cash it. In the meantime Detective Hughes had notified the bank about the missing cheque and when the "shelter" appeared on the scene Teller Howard Felstead immediately notified Detective Hughes, who took possession of the cheque and returned It to Mrs. Bird.
Later Mrs. Bird found $4 in silver, in an envelope, between the doors of her store, to which was attached the following note: "We are sorry, more money later."

“AI art isn’t real art” boring, pedantic, relies on defining the undefinable and an ever changing goalpost of what Real Art is.
“AI art is fueled by massive art theft” correct, concrete demonstration of the harm it’s doing to actual human beings and not just the nebulous concept of Art Itself.

I'll touch the ChatGPT point myself in that case, like it literally scrapes the web without consent and it can be fed literally anything on top of that, and people frequently steal other people's writing to feed the AI (and admit to it too, mind). You yourself gave an example of how easy it is to just put things in and steal from actual writers that could be paid. Not to mention it's not even a reliable bot to use because the data is so garbled and haywire. There's millions of handmade generators for creative inspiration out there for that specific purpose, use those instead of a theft-fueled chatbot run by sweatshop workers.
In case you're still reflexively on the fence when I proclaim that the conversation about AI has progressed to a truly batshit level of reactionary mythology, people on twitter are currently calling out the animators for Spiderverse for using a digital interpolator to assist with lining, because a documentary used the term "machine learning" to describe it.
Apparently using digital tools is taking work away from real artists. I am excited for 6 months time when the discourse has evolved into "all movies should be hand-inked on the inside of Palaeolithic caves to escape the corrupting labour-stealing influence of the pencil".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Yes this is currently a minority opinion in this instance, largely because people just really like Spiderverse. But the fact that these arguments are being seriously made shows how far off the deep end this conversation has gone. These types of arguments for blanket technology bans already made little to no sense due to the double standard applied, and this demonstrates that by removing the double standard and taking them closer to their logical conclusion - all labour saving tools are bad, especially if they involve a spooky computer algorithm).
