So in conclusion:
Peter Dutton has jumped from a non constitutionally enshrined voice as an alternative to the Voice, to just elect him as leader next election, because that apparently will work just as well

fucking hell man. this is really disappointing. I really hoped the voice would go through... very upsetting it's been categorically refused. it's such an inoffensive proposal, its worst possible outcome is uselessness, and conspiracy theories and baseless ignorance won out. I knew we had a long way to go but jesus fucking christ. hope all the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people out there are doing alright

like it is hard to communicate to non-australians how fucking bleak the referendum was
like we knew the referendum was doomed the failure the moment peter dutton stabbed it in the back for political gain, but we still tried to convince people to vote in favour because it was really such a small step for reconciliation and we need to listen to the voices of first nations people living in Australia when making decisions about them, for godsake.
but people fell for misinformation that the media spread like wildfire and the vote was a resounding no, even in victoria, the state I live in, the most progressive state, the one with the highest yes voice.
if we cannot have something as basic as a non-legally binding first nations parliamentary advisory body, how the fuck are we ever going to achieve reconciliation?
anyway. it's not the end of reconciliation in Australia, but it is a big stumbling block that was not needed.

Peter Dutton comparing the protestors in Melbourne holding up images of Hassan Nasrallah to people “idolizing Adolf Hitler or Osama Bin Laden” is iust further evidence that this man knows nothing and will say anything no matter how inflammatory to get votes and score political favour with conservative media outlets and donors.
And then having the gall to direct police to seize Hezbollah flags and images of Nasrallah. He knows he can’t do that. He knows he has no legal leg to stand on to authorise him to do that even if that were possible.
What a fucking joke of a politician. And what a fucking joke of a constituency to take what this man says at face value

i'm voting yes, but i think seeing the sheer amount of indigenous people opposing it and have nuanced critiques means for many there's more to it than racism, especially when i've seen indigenous people on both sides call this framing as reductionist and that the hatred they face for their critiques is not cause white people actually care about them but indigenous people's critiques threaten their white saviour complex.
Again you should vote yes, but maybe look at who's critiquing it and their actual critiques before casting judgement.
Also it's not 'a proper spot in parliament' it's a permanent advisory body, which is honestly even more important as a spot in parliment can be drowned out but the advisory body has to be listened to.
For all my fellow Aussies remember, voting yes in the referendum quite literally means that Indigenous Australians will get a proper spot in parliament. If someone tells you to vote no they are racist, there is no reason why Indigenous Australians shouldn’t be allowed in parliament.
Vote Yes!

Also the same thing applies to enrolling to vote before 18. Then all the racist parties are trying to get you to vote when you legally cannot, like nice try bob katter, for every text you're sending me that's another dollar wasted and advertising that's going to waste so that someone else is not convinced to vote for you.
I love using a VPN cos then all my ads are in a different language and then the actual video is in english. Like you're trying to sell me something in Swedish or Japanese and I'm just sitting there like nodding along in polite confusion.
And then they're wasting their money trying to get me to buy something when I don't even know what they're selling.
