it’s always so weird reading a fic or literally anything that takes place in ny and clearly isn’t written by someone who lives here. The tourist lenses are so obvious and tbh whenever nyc is even mentioned in a piece of writing I have to stop and cringe it’s so bad… Please don’t write your characters as tourists in new york I might have a heart attack and die of cringe

the one enstars movie was bad enough for me, I absolutely despise the romanticization of nyc it makes me want to shrivel up and die every time

it is not as nice here as you think it is it’s literally the same as dc, new haven, chicago, (boston too probably but I haven’t been there), etc.

and time square is WEIRD it’s like a tourist hellhole of bright lights and grown adults in character costumes I avoid it at all costs

The city fucking realizes people aren't going to pay for the bus now right? Like people aren't paying for the free ones and people aren't gonna be paying these ones.

I wish I'd heard people talking about it, but apparently the Eastern part of Oregon is becoming part of Greater Idaho. Or at least trying to with some degree of success.

Now, knowing that and the process, and that this is actually likely to succeed between the states, I might actually try to get a few Upstate NY counties to be part of Vermont. Still liberal in "the ways that matter" but also conservative economically and with regards to the 2a.

Plus, those counties could finally get our damn infrastructure fixed in theory.

For the sake of clarity, I'm only thinking Warren, Washington, Essex, Clinton, Saratoga, and Franklin counties. Which while they tend to be more conservative, that's largely fiscally in at least Washington, Warren, Essex, and Franklin. Saratoga and Clinton counties are both just about as liberal as Burlington/Chittenden county.

But, big advantages for the new, Greater Vermont would be, finally getting some damn representation in our state, lower taxes on property and income, and having largely reasonable laws as opposed to NY's. Plus, Adirondack/Green Mountains shipping fics would become a thing in those regions.

Not like I can't stand around Saratoga, Albany, Glens Falls, Plattsburgh, or Ticonderoga with a sign. In fact, I might just do that. Start in Ti because they'll be the most receptive, then work (at that point) our way down to Albany. Just to remind NYC that they're not our capital and those of us upstate are fucking sick of them.

Plus, it's a hell of a lot easier than balkanizing in the standard way.
