Seriously Netflix, what the fuck?
They cancelled Kaos, which has only just been released! I mean I shouldn't be surprised because I've been down this road so many times now, but I guess I thought that all the big name actors and the good production value meant Netflix actually cared about this one. Plus, it's not a sapphic series so I thought it would escape the curse, but nope! Not only have they cancelled it, but they've done so after barely giving people time to hear about and watch it.
I myself have one episode left, I'm not generally a binge watcher and there are certain shows that I only like to put on when I know I'll be paying full attention, Kaos being one of them. I think this was actually the first new thing I've watched on Netflix for a very long time, it peaked my interest immediately.
I just truly can't understand the logic behind forking out all that money and effort to then immediately say 'sayonara!' and I'm also mad at myself for still falling into the Netflix trap

Do you know any good wlw movies/ TV shows on netflix? I've watched a few, I am not ok with this, Carol, duck butter, but im LESBIAN DEPRIVED!
~🌈
YOU AND ME BOTH GIRLY.
unfortunately almost all my favorite sapphic shows have been canceled especially the ones on netflix but i do still think theyre worth your time. but it might also kill you bc the story isnt finished. all these shows are also just amazing plots too. like i would love them just as much even if there wasnt wlw relationships.
heres what i got for shows but not all of these are on netflix.
the wilds. this is an AMAZING SHOW. its on amazon its about a staged plane crash where 8 girls are stuck on an island but they dont know that its all a fucked up social experiment. a lesbian relationship became established before it got canceled after s2.
cable girls. this is on netflix and it actually DIDNT GET CANCELED HALLELUJAH. its an amazing show but it actually doesnt really count as sapphic bc one of the characters in the wlw relationship ends up being trans. but its still a great queer love. this shows spanish and set in late 1920s madrid at a telephone company. its one of my favorite shows ever literally every season is better than the last plz watch it.
everything sucks. this is on netflix and it did get canceled but the lesbian relationship was mostly established before the end of the first season. its set in the 90s and its just a really cute show im mad it got canceled.
paper girls. this is on amazon and ngl this is one of the most painful sapphic show cancelations ive ever suffered through so if you dont wanna watch it just bc of that i dont blame you. its about these four young girls who accidentally time travel from the 80s to current day and meet their future selves. the gay girlies are heavily implied and foreshadowed but they dont get together before the end of the show :(
the last of us!!! not canceled its still going!! this show has an episode that shows a past sapphic relationship with the lesbian main character but the first season doesnt introduce a new relationship yet. the second season will tho. im sure youve heard about this or already watched it but its about a zombie-like pandemic from a deadly fungus and its total post apocalyptic. also AMAZING found family father/daughter trope. dare i say i actually think i like them more than el and hopper.
i really need to find more great sapphic movies.
my favorite lesbian movie of all time is portrait of a lady on fire. its a french period piece and its just beautiful and THERE ARE LIKE ZERO MEN IN THE WHOLE MOVIE. i think the only line a man has is “bonjour” and thats it. MY KINDA MOVIE!!!!! INSTANT 5 STARS!!!!! i love this movie. the initial premise is that a woman needs to be painted but she cant know that shes being painted so the other woman has to just study her while hanging out and then paint her from memory. it ends up being much more than that but gaaahhh if you only watch one of these make it this movie.
another iconic sapphic movie is but im a cheerleader. way different tone much less dramatic and more comedy but still never gets old.
you didnt mention books but im gonna give you book recs anyway.
seven husbands of evelyn hugo!!!!!!! im sure youve heard about this. i dont think its overrated at all it really was such a good book and dont let the title fool you its gay as hell. if youre really not a reader tho this is going to be a netflix movie soon.
an amazing duo book series is criers war. i LOVE scifi and fantasy and this is my favorite sapphic scifi story ive ever read/watched. i want this to be a movie or show so bad. its about a world where some people are people and some are what they refer to as “automa” which are essentially cyborgs but they look just like humans. crier is an automa and the daughter of a king and ayla is a poor human and she has a vendetta against crier bc her father was responsible for her familys murder but crier doesnt know this! so then ayla gets the job as her maid for the goal of killing her basically but of course it gets super gay instead. its such an interesting take on the enemies to lovers trope bc its one sided, cryer has no idea ayla considers her her enemy. also neither of them are white i think crier is brown and ayla is black.
i hope you like these! and if anybody else has lesbian story recs plz put it in the replies or rbs cuz i also need more lesbian content!!!

bro, on one hand, YES. i get it.
i'm a lesbian. why do i have to wade through all the media life throws at me, BEGGING to see two women in love, in a way that is genuine, real, and authentic to my own life experience? WHY IS IT SO HARD.
Tumblr media
some tired, worn out, weathered, frankly FATIGUED sapphic hardships:
male gaze *eternal sigh*
hypersexualization (not separate from #1)
toxic/unhealthy relationship (not separate from #1)
compulsory heterosexuality / fear of the word "lesbian" (yes, again, #1)
bury your gays (yes again duh)
censorship until last possible moment/episode
censorship via cancellation (NETFLIX WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON YOU -)
infantilization (FUCK OFF PEDOPHILES and yes #1)
bad writing
queerbaiting
etc etc etc. y'all know, y'all live it with me. 😪😪😪
(btw caitvi dodging literally EVERY ONE of these bc they loved lesbians for once:)
Tumblr media
---------------------line break for long post reasons!---------------------
wlw / lesbian / sapphic relationships being severely underrepresented in fanworks when compared to the gay mlm relationship is frustrating. ao3 has literally been run by women since its inception; why are so few women represented? why do so many straight women see themselves better represented (both sexually and romantically) in mlm relationships rather than wlw ones? @centrumlumina (centreoftheselights on ao3) has multiple essays/discussions on "Possible Reasons for the Lack of Femslash" (which, btw, is 11 years old - and some of the problems have lessened, but others have arguably persisted, maybe even gotten worse). here is their 11yo graphic (PLS do not oversimplify it or shun responsibility by saying "but that's just the way things are!"):
Tumblr media
(they also have an incredible essay on "Fandom's Race Problem" - still amazingly relevant even 8 years later! will never not recommend something from centreoftheselights on ao3 😁 pls give them kudos & comments & bookmarks & all the typical ao3 love!)
IN OTHER WORDS: it is totally valid to be mad. be irate. enraged. FURIOUS. RAIN PROVERBIAL INTERNET HELLFIRE UPON ALL YOU WISH. that lesbian rage deserves to be had.
Tumblr media
however, on the other hand, the "canon ship vs non-canon ship", i'm not surprised.
non-canon relationships have ALWAYS severely outnumbered canon ships, when it comes to fanworks. and it's important to recognize that part of the extreme disparity between apparent number of fanworks is due to the caitvi's very intentional, very undeniable, very built-up, very flirted-and-saved-each-other's-lives-all-first-season-to-kiss-and-then-break-up-for-months-before-reuniting-and-eventually-fucking-in-a-prison-cell-before-war status of being CANON (i cry), and very last-scene-shows-them-domestic-and-in-love status of being ENDGAME. amanda overton i owe you my very soul--
technically, jayvik is very NOT canon (cue christian linke tweets), and is very NOT endgame (sorry bros - they DED). and you know what that breeds?
example #1. "Foe Fiction"
Tumblr media
i simply quote @ekingston, one of my queens, for this:
(original tweets; tumblr post that they made about their own tweet)
Tumblr media
a lot of the fanart you see, for example for jayvik, is actually foe art. note the part on the scale: "I take a hammer and FIX the canon". people are mad that jayvik wasn't canon. that's valid, i've shipped supercorp, okay.
sadly, for most humans, negative emotions are a MUCH greater and more efficient motivator for creativity than positive emotions are. thus, a LOT more "foe fiction" and "foe art" tends to be made over fanfiction/fanart made with true, unadulterated LOVE and respect for the source material.
if it helps, you can go:
*sees jayvik* ah that's foeart, foefiction, foeworks. 😐👍🏼
*sees caitvi* omg true fanfiction hi!!!! 🥰😘❤✨😈
example #2. data to back up "Foe Fiction"
here are the top 100 most-written-for ships of ALL TIME on ao3. (quoting centreoftheselights again for the data, and image -- they're THE BEST! i'd subscribe to them on ao3 if you can 😊) i've poorly annotated the canon-icity of each.
Tumblr media
notice anything?
i also did some rudimentary numbers, below (forgive me for how sketchy everything looks -- i'm now on my fourth hour of collecting everything i need for this post. 🚬🚬🚬).
Tumblr media
77% of all the top, most written-for ships of all time are non-canon ships. literally more than 4x the percentage of actual canon ships.
so, i'm not surprised. jayvik is decidedly not canon, so, if i see 4x the amount of fanworks, i'm not surprised! and i'll never be surprised with non-canon ships inspiring more vitriol-fueled creativity.
this doesn't mean you shouldn't be mad! in fact, have another screenshot:
Tumblr media
that makes me furious. what do you meannnnnn women confirmed to be in romantic love literally make up NOT EVEN TWO PERCENT of the top TWO MILLION FICS for the top 100 ships of all time? MISS ME WITH THATTTTTT
--
maybe caitvi will be the ship to break the trend. maybe it'll shoot to the top of the all-time femslash ships list. maybe, JUST maybe, you'll see it break the top 100 OVERALL on ao3.
maybe that sex scene is so legendary - so raw, so real, so authentic - that everyone finally GETS IT - why sapphic relationships are so precious and deserve to be adored and admired as much as m/m and f/m ships do.
but who knows. equality is a long haul (and i'm pulling with you!)
if your lesbian rage at the disparity in number of fanworks leads you to create more, all the better. it is something you can control.
--
so rage! seethe! never shut up about the continued dismissal and drowning of lesbian, sapphic, wlw ships. but NEVER do it unknowingly! do it IN SPITE of the weapons aimed at us, AWARE of the enemy. you know how amanda overton Did That™? because she was AWARE of all the enemies that sapphics have faced in the past! and she did something about it.
*edited in bc i forgot something, then put it in the replies, then figured i should just add to the original 🤦🏻‍♀️*
i'm also acutely aware of the way that the fandom as a whole has shunted out mel's romantic past with jayce in HEAVY, PROFUSE favor of a White Man. the misogynoir is showing, and i bet if i went to the jayvik tag on ao3, what would i see? mel as the villain, as the "opponent" to the "clearly superior", white, mlm ship. again, i'm not surprised, just mad that we can't seem to take steps forward.
but once again, the women will win. guess who gets a whole nother show to thrive in? mel. who doesn't? jayce and viktor. *duck grinning while smoking gif*
lastly, i tend to live in a pretty protected lesbian space -- all my algorithms mostly show me sapphics, and occasionally i'll get thrown a mlm bone to like, or to reblog/retweet. why not. solidarity, right? but it can definitely be annoying how one simple interaction with a post can suddenly shoot you all this crap you weren't expecting to see. i get it!
just remember to rest, to recuperate, to come back home where the best ship, to quote a tumblr fave, is always hot girl x hot girl
It is really disconcerting that two guys standing next to each other gets more art, attention, shipping, gushing, porn, etc by thirsty fans than the two canon lesbians who LITERALLY FUCK ON SCREEN.
Am I the only one who’s getting a little frustrated browsing the arcane hashtag and seeing NOTHING but Jayvik content???

fuck netflix and i’ll tell you why
fate: winx in the first season was bad. it was not accurate to the og show at all. the special effects weren’t great either. as a stand alone it was okay. it showed have been canceled after the trailer release imo. but it still got renewed for a second season
the second season was better! it was more accurate. they brought in some missing characters. the plot was honestly more intriguing. but it got cancelled.
 you know why?
BECAUSE THEY MADE TERRA A LESBIAN
i am so sick of netflix cancelling sapphic shows for having sapphic/wlw leads. like it is such a common theme with them. one after another they have released shows with wlw leads only to cancel them after the first season
WTF NETFLIX
like i said, fate was better after the second season and they could have done so much in a third season. there’s still unfinished story lines and things they need to fix. the same for first kill! first kill even did better in it’s release than heartstopper. but which one did they cancel? it wasn’t the one with the mlm leads i’ll tell you that.
now i love heartstopper, this is in no way any shape or form shade to them. but netflix is objectively just showing that they do not give a shit about sapphics/lesbians/wlw. like what is the fucking point of making and investing in these shows just to cancel them? what to pretend that you’re inclusive? give me a fucking break
fuck you netflix. do better
edit:
i want to say that i am aware of all the problems fate: winx still had. the point of this post was to point out common themes in netflix canceling their sapphic shows one after the other while keeping mlm ones. so i’ve made some edits to try to get that across more clearly

Apparently it’s too much to for Netflix to have a successful sapphic show associated with them. How can they not FUCKING RECOGNISE that it’s such as small ask?
At this point I willing to accept them having sapphic show just as an excuse to use rainbow capitalism if it means that queer shows get to fully share the countless stories that can happen.
FUCK YOU NETFLIX

okay so the wilds got canceled for low viewership and negative responses, first kill got canceled for not holding viewership long enough and negative responses, paper girls again got canceled for low viewership, and warrior nun *checks notes* oh warrior nun had overwhelmingly positive responses but got canceled for not holding viewership long enough… weirdly tho these “low viewership” numbers are incredibly similar to many shows that did get renewed and did get largely promoted-namely heartstopper, young royals, elite— so i cant help but wonder if maybe maybe low viewership isnt the problem at all. and that maybe maybe the problem is the other thing that is shared by all of these shows, which is their main love story being wlw and their primary audience being sapphics. and that maybe maybe these shows were never meant to be renewed, as the disparity in promotional investment is obvious, because of that very reason. maybe that has something to do with it. fuck netflix and fuck streaming.

A few days ago I was in the car with my mom and a friend who also loves warrior nun, my friend and I were talking about kty and how awesome it is that she’s doing all those interviews to promote the show while netflix won’t spend a single cent on promotion
We also talked about alba and how we admire her passion and commitment to the show and the fans despite her being less vocal about it than some of the other cast members considering what she’s been facing in her private life
My mom heard a lot of things she didn’t understand so we started to explain the situation to her, we explained that shows (on netflix) that have minorities in the lead role often don’t even get a chance to develop nicely despite their obvious succes and that this is primarily the case with queer female characters and sapphic couples (mind you I’m not out to my mom but I think she knows, we don’t talk about this subject a lot but I needed her to understand)
Then we started discussing whether we thought a renewal was realistic, I told my friend I was carefully optimistic, I knew netflix’s trackrecord with shows like this but I also knew how succesful season 2 was, I considered the 99% and 100% on rotten tomatoes, I considered the amount of weeks it spend in the top 10, I considered the fact that even season 1 reached the top 10 again because so many people started watching it and I thought there was no way in hell netflix could actually be so stupid and cruel to cancel this show
Then I read simon’s tweet last night and I know it sounds dramatic but I actually felt my heart break, I was watching tv with my dad and went upstairs without saying a word, I sat in the dark in my room alone for what felt like hours, I cried, I punched my wall (still hurts like a bitch), I texted my only friend who could possibly understand what I was feeling and then I stayed up for most of the night not being able to fall asleep
This morning I woke up and immediately felt nauseous because of the cancellation again, after hours I went downstairs grabbed my coffee and told my mom what happened, I said
“Remember when we were in the car a few days ago and we talked about that netflix show I love and how shows with minorities in the lead role don’t often get a fair chance”
She said yes and so I told her about the cancellation, I told her it’s the best rated netflix show ever on rotten tomatoes, higher than the crown, higher than stranger things, and that the reviews and viewing numbers were unexpectedly high and she responded by asking why netflix would cancel this show because I told her netflix only cares about money and warrior nun seems profitable, I explained to her that there’s two women who are in love with each other and one of them is the main character, last season this wasn’t the case and then we got a season 2, now their love for each other is confirmed and netflix cancelled the show even though season 2 was way more popular and successful than season 1, to which she responded the following
“It sounds like discrimination to me, it’s almost like there’s someone at the top at netflix who wants to stop all these shows because they don’t want to make stories about gay people”
This is my CATHOLIC mother, my mother who really doesn’t understand queerness, who sometimes still says things about being queer that piss me off so much I consider packing my bags but she understands this
This is obvious to her
It’s obvious to fucking everybody
If you don’t see the problem you’re either in denial or just plain stupid
I am pissed beyond belief, I will never ever forget this

I watched First Kill too late because the cancelation made me feel too scared of being attached (stupid, i know)
But I did finished and I didn't understood a single criticism. Okay, the CGI is shitty but also so it's current Marvel CGI so what's the point? We all watched Teen Wolf, cannot be worse than that. We sat down and saw Twilight and The Vampire Diaries and it was peak television/cinema at that time. First Kill had also a good, consistent writing with a interesting lore, the storyline weren't missing between romance and all as usually does.
The couple was rushed, indeed, but they're also 16 and lesbians, so what's the point again, i mean hahaha slow burn is good but it's also all that lesbians and sapphics are being given for a long time. It was amazing to me when I first saw Orphan Black and the sapphics (Delphine was bisexual so i don't feel like it's right put lesbian couple, but Cosima was lesbian) fucked. They did fucked. But again Orphan Black was never mainstream. Sex it's not everything but I feel like lately many people are being too puritans about sex in the media when it comes to LGBT characters, specially lesbians/sapphics. Not everything was male gaze. No one was watching the pantry scene. In fact, no one even joked or did some sexist/fetishist comment about Call and Jules going there, they just went and did their thing, also in the woods. What gaze? Male viewers weren't even the target audience. Also was never explicit and couldn't be, the girls are teenagers so they're kids. I saw a lot of comments about this whole male gaze stuff and I was like "where? What gaze? Is this gaze in the room with us right now?"
Carry on, the racial representation was wonderful and some aspects were so subtle i just felt delighted. Theo sleeping in a silk durag? Cal's hair getting curly when wet or sweat? But also, they weren't never defined by being black. Calliope was a child who was treated as child and defended as a child. How many times we, as black girls, saw that on media? She's a kid and she's allowed to be a kid. She's not expected to be the strongest person in the room, to protect people or to be parentified or even comments about she's being grown or something that could be understood as creep. She's a child. It was refreshing to see.
Talia and Theo's relationship? Outstanding. Validation to all the adoptive and blended families. That's her baby (fuck Jack bro). That's her child. He's her whole heart. You will only kill her son over her dead body. But also she respects that he keeps a picture of his mom. She understands how awful it was to him become the monster who killed his beautiful and kind mom. She never tried to take his mom place. He has two moms and that's it. It was beautiful and Aubin Wise made me cry one time or two.
The legacies being a matriarch also was very good to see it, it was interesting.
It was a good show. There's no reason to justify why i like it as i usually see people being like "i know it had this but..." There's no but. It was good. It wasn't a masterpiece Emmy winner of written and acting but it wasn't meant to be. It was never meant to be. It was a great representation with good soundtrack, main couple with good chemistry, a lore to be on the background, full Romeo Juliet and Juliet and I loved every second of it. Feels like we can't win, it's so hopeless. We can only win in the background or being dead? Why representation is, still, in the year of 2022, so conditional to WLW? Especially if there's a non-white woman in the couple?
Netflix didn't even had a reason to cancel the show. The budget was a bottle of juice and a candy. Performed good with the audience. The repercussion on social media was overall positive beside the common criticism (bad cgi, rushed couple). We don't even have a chance. Sorry for the rant but I needed it to put this somewhere. Ugh, waiting for the day we can have something that won't be stolen from us.

RENEW WARRIOR NUN BITCHES
So basically I'm gonna make a text about my thoughts on Warrior Nun so I can participate in overflowing the Internet into forcing Netflix to renew that show.
Basically, I've watched as numerous production canceled sapphic shows all throughout 2020-2022: I'm Not Okay With This, First Kill, The Wilds, Gentleman Jack, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, etc. I've watched as the Bury Your Gays trope unfolded: The 100, Killing Eve, The Walking Dead, IT Chapter 2, and more. Literally, the only shows I can think about that did good for sapphic representation were Wynnona Earp and Adventure Time (where both couples are secondary characters, Wynonna and Finn being the mains), and She-Ra and the princesses of Power.
Now, representation in media is literally crucial. I realized I was not straight after seeing Marceline and Bubblegum kiss on TV. Not only that, but I also realized I was not alone, I was okay, I had a beautiful life ahead of me. For me, realizing I was a lesbian was not a trial, it was not hard or painful. It was freeing. It wasn't accepting I would have to fight my way through life, it was realizing I wouldn't die alone like I thought I would.
My friends, who are bookworms, are dragging me through libraries after libraries, and I watch as they squeal over shirtless men on the book covers and discuss if they would rather date him or him, while the only LGBTQ+ book I can find are sexualised version of m/m relationship (which is a real problem, we need to talk about that more).
Back to Warrior Nun.
As I said, representation in media, especially media targeting a young adult audience, is crucial. Warrior Nun helped me deal with both my internalised homophobia (I didn't realize gay people existed until I was fifteen, when I literally went to a gay wedding when I was nine) and my religious trauma, which I thought nobody would ever understand. I strayed away from the catholic church because I didn't like being told how to love someone (a God, in that situation), which tracks, because I would discover I am a lesbian years later.
Not only that, but I discovered Warrior Nun when I was having a really bad time and it got me back on my feet and gave me a stick to fight my way back into my life.
I will not stand as they erase another part of our identity. This is complete bullshit and I've had enough, honestly. I cried for three hours after watching Lexa die on TV because I thought that's what they wanted to do to me.
I will stomp my feet and make noise and I don't give a single fuck if people call me dramatic. In french, we have a saying: “la goutte d’eau qui fait déborder le vase”; the drop of water that makes the vase spill, and this is a complete waterfall.
And if I have to get on my knees and pray to a God that has forsaken me to get what I want, then I sure as Hell will.

ok so i’ve been re blogging a lot abt first kill getting cancelled and how it relates to heartstopper and i just wanna mention something that ppl who r defending heartstopper rn don’t seem to be acknowledging which is that yes, the show has wlw rep and the comic did too but i feel like it’s important to point out that in the comic darcy and tara we’re featured MUCH less than nick and charlie (which makes sense in context bc the format alice ose man was working w didn’t rlly allow for the same kind of pacing the netflix show had, but don’t try to act like darcy and tara weren’t heavily sidelined throughout the whole thing - getting minor plots at best when they got any attention at all) and that people are comparing the two specifically because they came out only a few months apart and first kill had way less traction (even without considering that it was competing against mf stranger things and the umbrella academy, heartstopper had the benefit of being adapted of an already well known comic that was guaranteed to bring viewers in and had a major advantage - and STILL got outperformed by first kill) and the point is really this: heartstopper has really, really good rep and it’s important and i like it i genuinely do but there is a constant pattern of sapphic media being shoved to the sidelines while mlm media gets to flourish under fetishization (WHICH IS ALSO A PROBLEM BUT AGAIN NOT THE POINT RN) and wlw people are t i r e d of seeing our shit constantly sidelined and being told that it wasn’t important in the first place. you can probably quote several pieces of mlm media right now that center around the main characters just getting to discover themselves and explore their sexuality that’s been franchised to death but sapphics don’t have that luxury. i’m not that old and i remember watching everything sucks for the first time and crying when i saw someone like me on a screen for the first time and i remember how heartbroken i was and that has happened so many fucking times since and sapphic people are tired of our rep getting thrown down the fucking drain time and time again and it’s not a coincidence anymore, it’s because these shows don’t center around white cis men and it’s an attack and we have a right to be pissed so i don’t want to hear it

ive gone through this with sense8. you think it would be easier, but no, it never does. it really only stokes my anger towards the length these streaming services will do to invalidate their audience. netflix saying they wanted the after-credit scene EDITED OUT was telling enough that regardless of the ratings warrior nun have garnered, they would axe this masterpiece of a series anyway. its ruthless. its EVIL.
warrior nun is not singled out in this happening. there are many netflix shows who represents wlw / female-led stories who have suffered the same fate. but for some reason, this takes the cake. it had no promotions. season 1 was renewed when the show had 5 fans, coincidentally enough, that was the season when our protagonist was not canonically bisexual yet. and now the 2nd season having so much achievements and praises garnered from critics and casual viewers alike-- AXED. CANCELLED. like jesus what more does a sapphic show have to do to survive in this economy??? ERASING representation DOES NOT and WILL NEVER erase the fact that we exist. these stories you needlessly cancel with no real criterion of basis? they FUCKING MATTER.
just..... fuck you, Netflix. fuck all of you streaming services who put up a facade of wanting to be an advocate for diverse representation. fuck all of those in charge who think ERASING and KILLING art and representation that matters will ever silence the people that those things represent and make happy.

okay this has been going on for months but it's starting all over again and I am going to SCREAM so y'all. y'all. look. I too am pissed that they cancelled first kill. and it is absolutely fucking because it's about queer girls, one of whom is black. like that is absolutely the issue I am not denying that
but y'all what good does it do to pit two queer shows against each other
it is nOT heartstopper's fault that first kill got cancelled? and also they . . . have nothing in common? like they are queer and they are about teenagers. what good does it do queer rep if we are instantly fucking pitting any two queer pieces of media against each other???? like ofc it's a gender and race issue but you also cannot realistically compare two shows that are,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, in entirely different genres. and both happen to be gay. and expect the results to only represent people's attitudes toward fucking queer rep
like, first kill probably needed a bigger budget. heartstopper does have some animations and shit, but otherwise needs a lot less effects and shit because it's not a fantasy show. not to mention heartstopper is about 60% of the length of first kill, so it presumably took less time (and therefore money)
the difference in time spent viewing it . . . can also be explained in part by the difference in length. first kill may have had double the hours spent, but that doesn't mean people watched it twice as many times. it's nearly double the length.
I'm just saying like,,,, if you want to compare it to something heartstopper is literally just not a good comparison? because aside from being gay they have literally nothing in common! compare it to a show that's actually a similar genre for christ's sake. gay is not a genre.
and also just like. yeah, there is absolutely a problem with sapphic shit and qpoc rep getting ignored for white gay dudes. I am not denying that. trust me it pisses me the fuck off. but that is a systemic issue, not the fault of any individual show about white gay dudes. blame netflix. stop acting like it's heartstopper's fault
y'all the goal is to fucking have more of all sorts of rep, not to tear down the rep we are getting. please stop fucking tearing down the rep we are getting
disclaimer I know some people are genuinely just comparing stats, this last part is not about you (although see: I still think it's an unhelpful comparison bc genre and shit matters way more here practically than. having gay rep). but the amount of genuine shitting on heartstopper over first kill I have seen is frankly ridiculous

Thoughts on Warrior Nun [spoilers ahead]
The world of Warrior Nun, the sisters and demons, The Order of the Cruciform Sword, and the alternate universe was very interesting. It’s not explicitly following the bible canon, but falls more into the realm of sci-fi. I like that, I can get into that.
Ada reminded me a lot of Sailor Moon, for both her good qualities and her bad. Though clunky, she seemed to have a full arc. However, despite all the training she does she always has to be saved by her sisters.
Shotgun Mary is my absolute favorite character. There’s no contest, she was phenomenal. That being said, why the fuck did Mary have to sacrifice herself? No seriously why? Why did she not return in the second season?
I enjoyed the entire cast, both the protagonists and antagonists, to be honest. The sisters like Beatrice, Camila, Lilith, and Mother Superior all have great personalities that work well off of each other. They all have their moments to shine. The villains also work very well because when they fight for power, it doesn’t come from the superpowers of an otherworldly being, but from the number of believers they amass. Cult behavior amplified by demon possession just makes sense.
Sapphic sapphic sapphic sapphic
The shots and the scenery were beautiful. I think it was filmed all around Europe, which was wonderful to see.
The “badass slow motion cool guy walk with a pop song plays in the background” scenes were hilariously delightful in season one. In season two they were still delightful, but overdone.
Another wlw show canceled? Thanks Netflix.
Overall, I enjoyed watching Warrior Nun. I got hooked. It’s the kind of creative concept you’d have difficulty describing because it sounds really stupid. You just have to watch it to know.
