no because. “there was no other way, the world HAD to be fixed.” fucking wild thing to say. obviously a terrible defense of what he did. but i mean, shit! that’s it! that’s why light does it all, because he is so obsessed with this fake idealistic world and he puts all the pressure of attaining that onto himself. he is so desperate to fix something that cannot be fixed, it is all that matters to him. the world had to be fixed.

God honest reaction:
Why was Light Yagami wrong?
Short answer: 'Cause he was an arrogant little bitch.
Long answer: It's pointless to even discuss if something like the death penalty is morally right (it's complicated), if it does anything to disencourage crime (it doesn't), and if it can be exploited by powerful people to kill innocent people/political enemies (it can and it has).
These arguments don't matter, because Light's "point" wasn't "We need harsher punishments for criminals/the whole world should implement the death penalty", and the point of the story wasn't "Who is right? Light or L?" because even L's goal to stop Kira contradicts this. He wasn't after him because he believed killing criminals is wrong - he literally said that he wanted to find out who he was because it would be the biggest challenge of all times. Both Light and L used false moral pretenses to justify torturing/killing people for their own selfish interests (and to intimidate/impress each other)
Light's real point was "I'm a God, and I get to decide who lives and who dies" while the point of the story itself was "Death is equal/all humans, no exception, die." The story begins with Ryuk telling Light that, when the time came, he would be the one to write his name on the death note, and that all he could say about the after life is "Humans who used the death note went neither to hell nor heaven" and while some people assumed this meant that Light would become a God of Death (and some adaptations kinda hinted at it), it was actually just Ryuk fucking with him - the manga ends with Light begging for his life, while Ryuk taunts him and says that he won't go to heaven or hell, but rather to the void/emptiness, and not because of the death note, but because he is human, and all humans have the exact same fate, no matter who they were, and that the only reason Light got to live as long as he did was because Ryuk was amused by his actions - but now he was bored.
Both Light and L were wrong because they assumed they were inherently superior to others - both ended up having the same fate as each other and as all of the people they used, manipulated, tortured and killed. And in some ways, L's defeat felt more graceful and more victorious than Light's, because he accepted that he was going to die. Light on the other hand kept making the same mistakes over and over again:
1 - Assuming that a God of Death, one that straight up said he was NOT on his side, was NOT his friend, and would NOT give a shit if he was caught, thought he was important enough to keep helping him out forever (hence him begging Ryuk to kill the task force when he was found out, and then begging not be killed - again, even though Ryuk always made it clear that he would kill him someday)
2 - He kept understimating his enemies, and because of it ended up exposing himself. In the very beginning, L tricks him into killing a man in live TV just by hitting him where it hurts - his ego - and at the very end, he is finally exposed as Kira because he assumed that Mello and Near would never join forces to stop him, and that even if they did they simply would never be a match for him (or L) anyway.
So yeah, Light was wrong and all I can say about his death is this:

I actually like it when ships hurt each other in long lasting and unforgiveable ways. I like it when they leave vicious, glaring scars. I like when they leave traumas. I like when they stab each other and torture each other and ruin each other’s lives and violate every inch of each other’s values. and I like it when they fucking kill each other permanently dead.

an incomplete list of death note things i thought were just jokes until i found out they were canon:
the potato chip scene. how is that real.
apples
the whole “this is something only kira would do, on the other hand, if i don’t do it, he’ll definitely think i’m kira, but . . .” and “kira would never do that, unless he is kira, in which case he would do the opposite of what i know he would do, so that actually increases his likelihood . . .” dynamic that light and L have is not an exaggeration. they really do overthink everything to that degree
the thing that looks like a monster is more mentally stable than the normal human boy
light isn’t attracted to misa

Exactly.
I kept putting myself in the shoes of Light: if some bug-eyed weirdo with a diamond-cut jawline was staring at me while I was taking an exam, seemed to be tailing me throughout the day, and then told me "Hi I'm allegedly the greatest detective in the world" ?????
I'm sorry.
I would be on the fucking news.
the thing about Light is that he thinks the average person’s reaction to just about anything is to be completely unfazed. He genuinely thinks that having any sort of reaction (shock, joy, sadness, anger) to crazy news is suspicious and that a normal person would never have a reason to be surprised by anything
which is EXACTLY what makes L 10000x more suspicious of him

Hi and Welcome to: My poorly formatted argument for L being an INTJ.
(No spoilers, also posted on Personality Database.)
Ni- While L may entertain multiple possibilities, his rational analysis usually leads him to a singular conclusion. Once he reaches a decision, he sinks his teeth in and never lets go. He concluded who Kira was from the beginning, and no amount of emotional arguing ever changes his mind. In fact, when it seemed like there was even a possibility of him being wrong, he claimed to be depressed and unmotivated. Even when it seems as though surface level-evidence proves one thing, he follows his intuition when the "proof" fails to convince him of anything else.
Te- L is blunt and borderline tactless. He states facts and rational with little to no regard for how he comes across to other people. He is also not above using emotional manipulation if it means reaching his goal. In fact, as stated, L is not one to be persuaded in his logic in the slightest until empirical evidence presented to him convinces him to do so. He tends to like people who are useful and not "irrational," AKA not Matsuda.
Fi- Despite all of this, L does follow an internal moral code. It is shown to be internal because he shows little regard for outside established morals and the law itself; he wasn't above using torture, which is frowned upon in most cases. L tends to also push boundaries quite a bit, making those around him uncomfortable to the point where they refuse to continue working with him. It is heavily implied that L has his own internal definition of justice and kindness (examples could be found in the novels.) He has very few people in his inner circle, such as Watari; he never truly lets anyone else in, if we're only talking about the anime. He's also not very expressive; L hardly ever talks about how he's feeling, and in general seems to be very stoic until he's caught off-guard. He also profiled Kira by comparing his own personality to that of Kira himself; very Fi.
Se- Despite how he appears, L is quite strong and athletic. He was once the British Junior Tennis Champion, a feat obviously requiring an above average athletic skill. He's also adept at martial arts, able to introduce his foot into someone's face while still being handcuffed to them. His diet consists of almost entirely sweet foods, and he indulges with little regard to decorum. He also cares little for his outer appearance; he wears worn clothes, sits in an odd position, has his hair uncut (or maybe he likes it like that idk), and for some reason doesn't wear shoes instead of just getting fucking sandals.
There are also a few incidental reasons such as:
1) His and Light's personalities are often compared to eachother, I find it hard to think of anything other than the similarities between ENTJ/INTJ.
2) Alessandro Juliani's (dub) performance has this cadence and smoothness I often see in fictional characters who could be categorized as INTJ (trait of Se...?)
3) INTP's are often seen as charming to those around them. While L is beloved by the audience, he is instead seen as off-putting by other characters around him. Those people are wrong; L is the most adorable thing to ever grace this planet with his presence and they should be THANKFUL—wait where was I going?
I'd like to thank @pennyblossom-meta for giving me the inspiration to write this post, her L analysis is to die for. I also credit @funkymbtifiction for basically being my source for personality analysis growing up.
Anyway thanks for coming to my Tedtalk BYYYE✨✨✨
