Okay I’ve ADHD-ing for the past hour or whatever so here’s the first chapter of a fanfic

Wild’s Tears

Chapter 1 ft. All of our bois

TW: Anxiety, and very worried Linkys

Damn this bitch is (a bit) long

Wild went hunting 3 days ago, he hasn’t come back. He’s missing, and now Time and Warriors aren’t letting anyone leave. Do you want to go to the bathroom? Better have a partner and you’re not allowed to be more the ½ a mile away from the group, if your not with the group by nightfall you fucked, because when you get back, Warriors yells at you, not as a friend or a brother, as a captain.

They found a portal. “Do you think he went through?” Twilight stares. “No, he would tell us if he found a portal,” Captain barked. “Hylia Cap’ I’m just saying! Wild is the most unpredictable of all of us. It’s not out of character for him to go off impulse.” Twilight puts his hand in “let’s go”.

They went through. On the other side, they’re met with a… Fort? People walk through it, there’s a shop, and a tower. Everyone’s thoughts are interrupted by a young teenage girl screaming, “D-DOC-DOCTOR PURAH DOES MASTER LINK HAVE RELATIVES!?” She runs upstairs and aggressively pounds on a door. “No, his family’s dead,” A woman, presumably Purah, said. “BUT THEY-…” the girl fumbles “THEY LOOK LIKE HIM!!”.

“WHAT!?” She yells, running out of the office and down the stairs.

An hour later. “So you’re all Link but from different points in time, and Link- Wild went missing, but in reality, he came home and went with Zelda to go under the castle, and now he’s really missing,” Purah thinks aloud.

“So, how will we find him?” Time says rubbing the back of his hands, it’s a nervous habit of his.

“Well, there’s 8 of you, I’m sure you can search for him.” Purah smiles, I’m sure he’s fine”.

“Fine? Knowing him, he’s probably going ot die for the princess!” Warriors buds in

Purah looks at him like he’s crazy, “No! Link would never, We’ve been working on his whole- never mind, just find him… please”

Purah lent them a map with sections of areas. Time and Warriors were thinking of traveling as a large group. Legend just walked in after getting a smaller map for himself. He scoffs, “That’s impractical, if we travel in a large group, it’ll take way too long.” he sits on the table.

“So what do you want to do?” Time looks up

“We split in twos again.”

“No”

“Okay, Dad, stop being paranoid. We’ll be fine, Wild isn’t kidnapped.”

“No”

“We’ll be fine,” Legend rolls his eyes.

“Okay fine… Warriors, you’re with Sky.” Time points to the Hebra and Tabantha regions, “Legend go with Hyrule… here,” he points to Mount Lanayru, Faron, and East Neclula. “Captain, go tell Wind and Four they’ll be going southwest to Gerudo, I’ll be with Rancher.”

“For someone who doesn’t want to split up, you sound like you’ve been planning this for weeks,” Legend scoffs.

“Shut your yapper.” Time puts his hand on Legend’s mouth, “Go look for Wild with Hyrule.”

Hebra:

Warriors and Sky both looked for 3 days, they found the Rito, they said the same thing, the Hero is missing. Eventually, they found themselves in the Tanager Canyon, walking through they checked every corner. They make it to the northeast point, Sky stares up at the monument, the Lost Temple, or as he knew it, the Sealed Temple. “Hey, Wars… is it weird that this place was like the hub of my adventure?” Sky asked as they walked in.

“No, we have geographical similarities all the time,” Wars answered.

“Yeah, see up there?”

“Mhm”

“I planted that tree, it’s supposed to grow a Life Tree Fruit… there should be one by now.” Sky stares at it, blissfully unaware of the bokoblin behind him.

“Behind you!” Warriors yells, Sky whips around, and kills it.

“Hylia!” Sky exhales.

They explore further until eventually, they reach the back. “What…?” Sky looks at the toppled over Goddess statue “What does- how did this happen? She supposed to- why-” Sky runs over.

“Skies, hey, calm down, why are you panicking?” Warriors walks over.

“We’re standing on the seal,” Sky says after taking a deep breath, “and before you're like ‘Ganondorf breaks seals all the time,’ this isn’t Ganon, he’s worse. This could mean he’s shivering and causing the floor to shake, but this temple would’ve fallen completely.” Sky’s thinking out loud.

“Who is ‘he’?” Wars asks.

“No one really, just the origin of evil.”

“Shit”

Great Hyrule Forest:

For 5 days, Time and Twilight scanned through Akkala and Eldin, only to find no sign of him. Twilight had been especially worried, and the news that he had disappeared under the castle. It devastated him, “he probably threw himself in danger for Zelda.” Twilight fidgets with his fluffy thing.

“He’ll be fine, he’s smart.” Time’s also anxious, he looks up, and the Great Forest “Father,” he whispers, running forward.

“Time wait!” Twilight runs after him.

As they run, purple mist circles them. Time doesn’t stop running, and Twilight doesn’t leave his trail; no matter how intense the urge is to pass out, they both resist.

Finally, they reach the middle of the forest.

“Great Deku Tree!” Time runs to the grand tree, “hey! No nononono not again!”

“Time, what are you on about?” Twi walks over.

Time looks up “It’s hard to explain, I grew up with him, in my– our time. This isn’t the first time he got… sick, for lack of a better word.” Time gets up.

“You want to help him, don’t you?”

“Yes”

“I’m sorry, but we don’t have time.”

“Twilight, please.”

…

“Fine”

Time walks into the tree. They can see the Koroks, but Time is in the same mood as them. “What the fuck?” he looks at the chasm kneeling in front of it “who did this?”

“Hylia knows, but it looks like we found our problem.” Twi touches the gloom “Tch!” he swats his hand “Don’t touch it.” Time chuckles at him, then he gets up and leaves the tree with a group of 10 Koroks; they seem to be a little more cheerful. “Wait, hol’on now, what happened to being all doom and gloom?” Twilight pointed to the small woodland creatures.

“I grew up with Kokiri, I knew this tree when it was a sprout, I think, I don’t know how much time has passed” Time turns to the little creatures then back to Twi “the little guys are probably relatives to the Kokiri, seeing as they are the children of the forest.”

Twi nods, “still doesn’t answer my question, but thanks for some backstory, Time.”

“Oh right, I told them I knew the tree and could help, this wouldn’t be the first time I helped the big guy out.” Time’s expression turned solemn, “though I just hope I'm successful in curing him before it’s too late this time.”

Twilight nods a second time, understanding that this is sentimental to him. Just as Twi opened his mouth to speak, the koroks picked him and Time up and jumped into the chasm. They’re lowering them down slowly, and that's when Twilight sees the weird hands at the bottom “uhh, Dad– TIME- we have enemies below…”

“Then be on your guard, we fight as soon as we land.” Time smiles, “I have faith in you.”

Twilight pupils dilate like a dog getting praise, he nods quickly, “Wolf form?”

“Only if necessary, and don't get hurt this time.” Time’s face goes back to stoic, he looks down and notices the safe droping distance, not wanting the koroks to get hurt, he tells them “drop us, I’ll call up to you when we’re done”

With that, the forest children drop the two heroes, “Good luck, Mr. Hero’s dad!” Time looked up confused, but quickly focused on the red hands.

One probably amazing fight later that I’m too lazy to write.

The hands are gone, thanks to their experience, Time and Twilight are unscathed. “Whew, that’s- fuuuuck.” Twilight transforms, and Time notices this, looking up to see a weird, red, bacon-looking mummy guy. Moral of the story, they fight it and win. (Again I’m lazy af)

Time calls for the Koroks, and they come down. The Deku Tree is saved, in front of the tree, Time stands with his head down. “Great Deku Tree, I’m glad you're safe,” Time says in his calm voice.

“I am only safe because of you. My father told me about an ancient hero who lived before the calamity, who tried to save my distant relative. By what my children have murmured, that hero sounds to be you.”

“It.. may be, but there is more than one of us”

“You are the Hero of Time, yes?”

“Yes…”

Time turns to the Koroks “Hero’s Dad?”

“You’re not his Dad?” They respond, Twilight’s holding back laughter.

East Nucluda:

“You think he’s out on that island?” Hyrule points.

“Goddess Rulie, you sound like Wind.” Legend rolls his eyes. “Fine, let’s go, there’s a village down there, they might have a boat we could use.”

“Sure, but how do you get down?” Rule points down the cliff

They look down the cliff, seeing small spots of water. “We can try and jump for those,” Hyrule suggests.

“Are you stupid?” Legend turns his head to look at the buffoon before him.

“Yeah…”

They explore further and find a slope that goes down. When they get to the village, they learn the hard way that they have to fight a load of bokoblins.

“Rulie, I’ll charge, you use that weird Phantom Sword thing” Legend runs forward.

One intense fight later. (I’m lazy)

“Hell yeah” Legend holds up his hand, Rule slaps it.

“So uhh… how do we get there-“ Rule is interrupted by a flamboyant old man’s voice.

“Why hello there! I’m Bolson! It appears as though you got rid of those nasty pirates, how can we repay you?” The old man smiled.

Legend nudges Hyrule, “can we have a boat? We want to get over to that island” Ledge points to the island off the coast

While they were fixing a boat together they found the name of the island, Eventide, and the land marks, the most memorable to Legend is Koholit Rock. He doesn’t show it, but Hyrule can see it, Legend’s sad.

They render it unsuccessful and head back to shore and over to Lookout Landing.

Gerudo:

Wind and Four are stopped at the front of a valley by a Gerudo Warrior, “where are your parents?”

“We don’t- Ma’am I’m an adult” Four looks up “forget that, we were assigned to look for the Hero”

“Under whose authority?” She kneeled down

“Doctor Purah…? Please Ma’am I assure you we know what we’re doing” Four makes complete eye contact.

“If it gets to hot drinks these, and if it’s too cold eat these, and if you run out, go into a cave” she gives them elixirs and spicy peppers, then she lets them pass.

They look through caves and fox holes, then it gets hot, really hot, Wind looks up “Four! Look up! There’s a dragon!”

“Huh?” Four looks up “wow…”

They stop and admire the dragon for a minute, “Wild has a majestic Hyrule doesn’t he?” Wind murmurs

“We all have our unique Hyrule, but I agree, this place is huge and has a literal dragon… I’m gonna ask Wild when we find him” Four says, “come on let’s go, Wild’s not gonna… no that’s not right… we need to find Wild”

Wind laughs and they continue. It’s a peaceful walk, until they enter Gerudo

“Fuck… sand storm, there’s no way to search that…” Four says, “let’s just ask around in that oasis”

When they ask around, Wild and the Princess were not seen in Gerudo, with no choice they head back to Lookout Landing.

Lookout landing:

“Any luck?” Legend looks at Four.

“No there was a sand Storm, we had to stop” Four slumps and flops against a wood pillar.

“Darn, we didn’t see him either, though I did learn Ledge knows how to sail!” Hyrule smiles

“You know how to sail!?” Wind pipes up.

“Sure… I don’t wanna talk about it” Legend get defensive.

Sky and Warriors walk in, “Hey! Any luck?” Hyrule runs over.

Sky looks stressed, and Warriors is concerned “no, but there’s seal, Like a really important seal that might break” Warriors rubs the back of his neck, Sky is scratching the back of his.

“Woah- hey Buddy!” Hyrule pulls Sky’s hand away from his neck “seals break all the time, plus Wild is good, I have no doubt that he can handle whatever is sealed”

“I know but I don’t want him to die” Sky looks down

“Don’t say that” Warriors pokes his forehead “he’ll be fine”

2 hours later, Time and Twilight walk the gate, looking accomplished.

“Please tell us you found him” Warriors pushes his hands together and points at them.

“No but he saved a tree” Twilight scoffs

“The Great Deku Tree, Son- Twi” Time flicks the side of Twilights head.

“Ugh great, I’ll report to Purah” Warriors sighs and pushes off the wall and walks up the Purah’s office.

???:

He lands in the water and swims out, this new arms gonna need some getting used to. He runs to a Fort with a pillar. “Ugh shit” he just flops, laying on the grass, no now’s not the time to sulk Zelda’s gone. Focus on her, you cannot fail again. He pushes back up, burying any and all feelings of self deprecation.

we up to season 3 now

Shiro is missing and everyone is coping in their own ways. I've been reading ao3. Everyone else (read: MY ADULT MOTHER. and also my sister) keeps coming into my room late at night to jump up and down and go clovveeeeeerrrrr wheeennn is shiiirroooooo coming baccckkkkkkk. my father is the only person to not do this but he DID get out his voltron (pictured bellow, he's a toy collector) and had us all roleplay a scenario where Shiro is injured and then Pidge has to go around and rescue everybody so like i see u dad. i see u. my entire family is in mourning for a cartoon man and idk when i became the emotional support responsible adult im supposed to be keith im supposed to be the angry loner emo ajjsjdjdkfkgnynt.

we didn't go to comic con but we DID go to supernova (i was Link legend of zelda and my sister was Kobra Kid danger days) we spent the whole con looking for voltron fanart for her wall and we found exactly one klance print so we went home and cried

i may be writing Legend of Zelda fanfiction rn, but goddamn I need my Calimari Inkantation and other Splatoon songs in the background- (in a good way)

Okay, so. Yesterday, my spouse's cat (my beloved, furry stepdaughter) was suddenly very sick. Spouse had the car on the opposite end of the state for work, so I walked down the road to the local vet. Unfortunately, she needed to be rushed to the emergency vet in the next town over, so I had to order an Uber and cross my fingers.

Enter Donald, a gay Puerto Rican man who rolls up in an electric Kia with a rainbow Zelda shirt. I know he is Puerto Rican because that is the theme of his car's decor. He's probably in his late forties. He's gushing over the cat but his demeanor changes when I tell him how sick she is and how I need to get her to the ER. He solemnly informs me, "I'll take care of it," and RIPS out of the parking lot of my building.

Dude is flooring it. The entire time he is sending his husband text-to-speech messages about, "Going to the vet, do you want me to go in and talk to them?" He informs me that he actually needed to go speak to the vet at this clinic anyway--his dog who he just had to put down yesterday went there for renal failure treatments--and that "fate brought us together." He tells the cat to hang in there, that, "Girl, I will take care of you."

He turns on his emergency blinkers. He's weaving through traffic like he used to professionally race. Any gap he sees, he takes it. It is terrifying but I am in awe.

We get to blocked traffic because it is rush hour. He asks me if I trust him. I tell him, "I guess I have to in this situation," and he nods and swings into the shoulder, guns it, whips around the traffic, and takes off on a side road. The GPS means nothing to him. He knows exactly where he's going and he is beating the traffic jams for the sake of the cat. She can't wait.

When we pull into the vet clinic, he goes in with me. As my cat is taken in, he asks me if I want to see pictures of his late dog. He shows me a picture of a chihuahua in a bow tie and it is the cutest fucking dog I've ever seen. He tells me how his husband is a dog trainer and the dog had been around the world, and that this vet is a good one and my cat will be fine.

I compliment his shirt and he nods like Arnold at the end of Terminator 2. Then he just marches out the door.

Anyway. The cat is staying overnight at the emergency vet but seems to be doing fine aside from not wanting to eat. Apparently, this is a $2.5k case of "your cat has a cold and is constipated, and what you thought was respiratory distress was her gagging on snot while nauseous." We pick her up sometime today.

Wherever you are, thank you, Donald. My spouse left you a tip higher than the cost of the trip because you are awesome and your dedication to our cat was inspiring. 10/10, I would endanger myself on the road with you again.

IT'S DONE RAHHHHHH ITS FINALLY DONE!!!!!!! I hope you all have enjoyed this chapter but I am REALLY excited to move on to what's next!!!!! i have been waiting literal years to get here,,,,

starting off with a few things: these frames are the same design from pt. 9, just damaged now. it's also uh. literally the same drawings KJSNFKJG listen sometimes I just have to make things easier on myself. also convenient crack through the hero of time's right eye >:-)

okay so the hero of time lore gives me a bit of a headache. let it be known that I understand in wolf's timeline, the events of OOT technically never happened. He knows the "hero of time" moniker bc he's met him, and i could've SWORN that name is mentioned if not somewhere in TP then in the TP manga. suspend ur disbelief for me lol

Anyway the idea is basically that post-game Wolf has done some digging to track down the person the Hero's Shade was when he was alive. I like to imagine he had some kind of bargain with Zelda where if he agreed to come to certain events she'd let him dig around in what survived of the archives after lol. I actually got stuck on this panel for a while trying to think of some other imagery that got this idea across without being so,,,idk on the nose? but i couldn't think of anything so i went with this HAHA. Even if Mask wasn't technically the "hero" in this timeline, I think he still ended up being a prominent figure, and some documentation of him would exist. An unfinished portrait, a text about the history of the royal guard, military records, correspondence between him and the castle, etc.

ALSO ALSO. how do they know they're talking about the same hero of time? well, they don't. they're making an educated guess lol. obviously whoever made this statue of the Hero of Time couldn't make it look exactly like him, but I feel like Wolf has noticed enough similarities between depictions to be like. hey wait a second

wake is trying to give a pep talk here like "come on guys, going on adventures is what we do!!" meanwhile Wolf and Loft are both like. yeah i guess leaving our loved ones behind with little notice to go on dangerous missions we may never return from IS what we do.....

speaking of which Loft is maybe technically being a little bit of a hypocrite here but I really think he's just trying to make sure Wake doesn't make the same mistake he did lol. he's feeling guilty

one of many things I really regret abt this chapter is not having Tetra and Loft have a conversation similar to the one he and BOTW Zelda have. I feel like Tetra's experience of getting to grow up outside of the pressure of the royal family or her role and then basically having it forced on her during the events of WW would be very valuable for him to hear. I had so many things I was trying to juggle this chapter and somehow that just slipped through the cracks 😭 im sorry tetra.

AT LAST!!! ANNA FROM FROZEN!!! when all that was going down a few weeks ago i was like GUYS GUYS WAIT. HE'S ALMOST HERE. does this mean I have to get a new icon now

in case its not clear (and it probably isn't) he's in the ALTTP lost woods!

okay so some of you may have noticed this, but up until now we've basically been following the thread of mainline games, starting where the timeline merged and working our way back to where it split in OOT. ALTTP is technically part of that, as the timeline where the Hero of Time dies. I have them all connected through the Lost Woods. The pitch for this was basically "wouldn't it be so fucking funny if Mage could've joined the story way earlier but didn't bc he was the only one with enough sense and also enough gall to just throw something through it." and then I couldn't NOT do that

so on that note, this is the BOTW lost woods. If you look closely, you can see Wolf in the distance.

I wanted to do something to establish him as a magic user! he could have just pulled these out of his bag but where's the fun in that. you might also notice that he's not wet because the rain isn't actually hitting him

How to Get Away With Hypocrisy 101

Greetings everyone. Welcome to my class, "How to Get Away With Hypocrisy 101". In this class, we will be discussing how you can (somewhat) successfully get away with bad actions, such as bullying and harassment, and defend them using Hypocrisy! Thank you @aphrodicci & her friends/defenders for allowing me to use you as the perfect example for this case.

1. BE PROBLEMATIC

Now of course, there's no way for you to be hypocritical if you're not problematic silly! This can involve anything: racism, bullying, stealing, transphobia, homophobia, etc. In this case, @aphrodicci and some of her friends have been called out and exposed for harassing, bullying, manipulating, and lying on others for the past two years. This has resulted in people's reputations being ruined unfairly and being bullied off the platform, and out of a community that was supposed to be welcoming. Aphrodicci has also been exposed for making racist comments. You can see the screenshots and links below for proof.

2. USE YOUR FRIENDS AS A SHIELD

This is one of the most important parts. If you wanna succeed in using Hypocrisy to get away with your misdeeds, it's important to have friends that you trust defending you, well.....loyal and smart friends. Unfortunately in @aphrodicci's situation, that was not the case, although it did work for a good while.

Every time someone went against her and called her out, she had people like @baeladimi defending her every time. But.....let's hope you don't have a friend like baeladimi for your sake. Remember how I stated that Aphrodicci got called out for racism? Well, she defended her by using unprovoked racist comments of her own! Clearly, that's not gonna make her case any better.....

What also makes Aphrodicci's case worse is that only her friends are defending her, and they're doing so by harassing people through anonymous inbox messages, creating posts with lies and unnecessary information, or making alt accounts (that are allegedly run by her friends) to harass people! Ladies and gentlemen, don't be like these people. (The "patientenclavesummoner" account was made just minutes after @daarlingdatura and I were arguing with and calling out Aphrodicci and @baeladimi . It has an offensive picture of Datura as its pfp. Coincidence? I think not.)

UPDATE: There actually might be a possibility that @baeladimi is actually......Aphrodicci? This is alleged, but this is an explanation from someone I know explaining the reasoning. Ladies and gentlemen, PLEASE don't make alt accounts to make it look like other people are defending you. This will make it harder to sell the hypocrisy and get people on your side, especially if you get exposed somehow!

3. ADVOCATE FOR AN IMPORTANT CAUSE FOR ADDED PROTECTION (OPTIONAL)

Now this part of optional! It's optional because all the other steps should already be going successful for you! But if you find yourself in a difficult position, or just need or want extra protection, advocate for an important situation or cause. Great examples include showing your support to certain charities, supporting LGBTQ communities, or speaking up for Women's Rights! In this case, Aphrodicci decided to use the war between Israel and Palestine, showing support to Palestinians, to gain sympathy points.

Now, I will say that you need to be careful when using this method, especially if you have a tricky situation on your hands like Aphrodicci. It'll be harder to convince people you actually care about and support the cause you're discussing. It could make matters worse and come off as performative activism.

4. USE HYPOCRISY AND LIES TO MANIPULATE OTHERS

Now, the final step that we have all been waiting for, IT'S HYPOCRISY TIME! Now is the time to gaslight the fuck out of people who don't believe you and try to call out your behavior. Guilt trip them, continue preaching high values and the causes you support (if any), defend yourself by acting offended, and flip the script. Using selective morality keeps others off-balance and in check.

Depending on how serious your situation is, this should work perfectly for you. Your friends and supporters should be defending you well, you should be defending yourself well, and being the most "iconic" manipulator you can be. But unfortunately in Aphrodicci's case, we see that this has begun backfiring immensely.

5. IGNORE

If this situation is out of control, people are coming at you from all sides, your manipulation tactics and lies failed, you're losing supporters, or you're being exposed, the best thing I can suggest you to do is ignore them and hope the drama will fade away. Of course, this will only make your situation ten times worse for not addressing it or apologizing. If you have to resort to this final step, well I'm sorry to say it.....but you have failed my class.

In all seriousness, the things that aphrodicci and her friends/defenders (bitdemonic, sydneymykah, spiritstalking, whoever tf else) have done within this community have been toxic, evil, fake, and insane as fuck. I did not make this for clout. I made this because this type of behavior in this type of community is something we shouldn't stand for. Racism, hatred, toxicity, doxxing, and harassing people through alt accounts and inboxes is never okay. That's some scary ass and evil ass shit.

We all have the potential to grow together and share our knowledge. There's room for ALL OF US. Myself, Lexa, Datura, and others did not deserve to be harassed or lied on. This is not the place for egotistical maniacs and spiritually sadistic people. You (aphrodicci) is crashing out and blocked me because the truth is being revealed and more people are calling you out. I have ignited a fire under yo ass.

Lore Olympus just pulled off the biggest whiff in webtoon history.

I promised I would choose one of two headlines and of course, this is the one we wound up with. But should we really be surprised? Rachel herself seemed to be telling on herself down to the minutes leading up to the finale, fully confirming to us that yes, she's been writing this comic at the last minute, by the seat of her pants, for ages now.

(that second one was literally posted TWENTY FUCKING MINUTES BEFORE THE COMIC UPDATED.)

Welp, let's get into it. Possibly the last essay I'll ever write about this dumpster fire of a comic (but probably not, let's be real LOL)

CONTENT WARNING: DISCUSSION OF SEXUAL ASSAULT AND FASTPASS SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES FINALE AHEAD!

Holy crap, where to even start with this. I knew it was going to be bad. I knew it was going to be rushed. I knew it wasn't ever going to live up to what I had hoped it would be years ago when I was still a diehard fan.

But I didn't think it was going to fall quite this hard. Despite bracing myself for the worst, Rachel has once again let my expectations down through a final display of explosive mediocrity and disappointment.

Yes, the episode is called "You're Welcome", and yes, that instant "ick" you're feeling is the exact same as what we're all feeling. This title plays into the dialogue later, but what a shitty, lowkey mean-spirited title for the series finale.

Now, before we get into the actual episode, the WT ads for this are just... so desperate and misleading.

They are trying SO HARD to hype up something that isn't there, and at the last minute to boot, because Rachel definitely hadn't written any of this ahead of time.

First off, the bit about the gods being in "eternal chaos" of course isn't a stake worth worrying over because Gaia literally does away with Ouranos in the first 5 panels.

Did you really think I was joking about that 5 panels thing?

That's it. That's the death of Ouranos. As mysteriously and quickly as he arrived, he was gone, after Gaia ripped out of him what appeared to be some purple sunny side up - but it's actually, in fact, Apollo.

And that's when we start to get some of the worst dialogue I've ever seen throughout LO. Remember when I said LO's dialogue was like Shenmue 3? Welp, the finale decided to continue that tradition and further fuel the suspicion that this entire thing was written by ChatGPT.

Oh, by the way, that "thank you, ma'am" was Artemis' first and last line of the episode. So once again, just like in Episode 248, we're completely robbed of her reaction to Apollo being a rapist piece of shit and the character development she could have had as a supporting character. The women in this "feminist retelling" really couldn't be more half-baked.

Gaia stumbles upon Persephone, and I'm not even gonna fucking bother showing the panels where Gaia says it's time to "make things right" because they literally don't matter. Why don't they matter? Because Rachel just had to get in one more pointless time skip.

We're shown a sequence of pointless images that I'm not gonna show as I don't want to waste my image limit on them, depicting Hades having a sad day because his small wife isn't with him and oh nooo what could have happened?? Did Persephone finally divorce him ??

Nah, we couldn't possibly have an actually happy ending in this comic. Instead we get a completely pointless phone conversation between Hades and Hecate-

Not only is the grammar particularly bad in this episode, but the actual script-writing is atrocious. We literally did not need this phone conversation to happen because-

-we're cutting BACK TO THE PRESENT THAT WE JUST CUT AWAY FROM FOR A 3 MONTH TIME SKIP. FOR NO REASON BESIDES SHOWING HADES BE SAD OVER SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY ISN'T THAT BIG A DEAL, AS YOU'RE ABOUT TO SEE.

I- I LITERALLY HAVE NO WORDS. I HAVE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS. ALL I CAN HEAR IN MY BRAIN IS THE LEGEND OF ZELDA ITEM GET MUSIC-

-BECAUSE THIS WHOLE THING SUDDENLY SOUNDS LIKE SOME CONTRIVED FETCH QUEST. WHAT DO YOU MEAN HADES AND PERSEPHONE HAVE PROVEN 'TRUE LOVE' IS REAL? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY HAVEN'T USED 'LOVE' AS A FORCE FOR DESTRUCTION?? ARE WE FORGETTING THAT HADES MUTILATED A GUY IN THE NAME OF 'LOVE'? THAT PERSEPHONE LITERALLY INVADED THE HOME OF HADES' CANONICAL FIRST WIFE BECAUSE SHE FELT MILDLY THREATENED BY HER?

This whole concept of "true love" that Rachel is trying to convey feels so juvenile especially for a series that has sold itself as being mature and thought-provoking and progressive.

HAHAHA SO FUNNYYYYYYY why does Rachel write like this. this is, at best, the writing of a 13 year old on fanfiction.net, which I SHOULD KNOW, because I WAS ONE OF THEM. BUT I'M 28 NOW AND RACHEL HAS ANOTHER 10 YEARS ON ME.

Okay, this is the part where I'm CONVINCED Rachel either just mashed this into the episode in the MINUTES leading up to its release, or she used ChatGPT or something. Because NONE of this dialogue makes any sense. Beyond how stilted and lifeless it is (seriously, this dialogue reads like something from Empress Theresa) Gaia is clearly meant to 'replace' Erebus here which I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO EVEN EXPLAIN IS SO FUCKING DUMB, but ALSO what is even Persephone trying to communicate here? "That is true, but it was a deal I was willing to make and ties me to the Underworld. Please don't change me." What? Gaia hasn't even insinuated that she's going to do anything to Persephone, why is Persephone immediately jumping to this conclusion? What does 'changing' her mean? Is she asking Gaia not to force her to sacrifice something (which she never did)? Or is she asking Gaia not to strip her of her Underworld status? Because again, why is that even something Gaia would do?

Maybe this is harsh but I'm pretty sure even Empress Theresa is more coherent than this, what in the flying fuck is Gaia talking about?

"I can just see the potential for conflict! To relieve you from the burden of the whats, the hows, and wheres." Like... okay, first of all, that second sentence isn't even a complete sentence, it's a dependent clause left hanging, but also what the fuck does this MEAN. Is she EXCITED for the conflict but then contradicting herself by saying she wants to relieve Persephone of that conflict? Or is she saying she can see the conflict it would cause for Persephone to have to perform duties in both realms and trying to insinuate that she's going to relieve her of those complications?

Here's what I think happened - I think that second 'sentence' wasn't supposed to be a sentence, but the start of the sentence to the next panel-

So with that theory in mind, the sentence becomes, "To relieve you from the burden of the whats, the hows, and wheres, you are to spend three months in the Mortal Realm to do spring and the rest of the year in the Underworld. That seems fair to me."

It's still a very poorly written line of dialogue, but at least with that fix in mind it makes sense. But man, you can really fucking tell this episode was submitted at the last minute because that's a serious syntax error that should NOT have happened in this two-time-Eisner-winning comic.

Errors aside, it's clear that Rachel is following through on having Persephone spend only three months in the Mortal Realm, rather than the traditional six. There ARE other translations that have that number closer to four, but those four are the time she spends in the UNDERWORLD, meaning she's always spending either equal or MORE time in the Mortal Realm. Of course, Rachel doesn't want her self-insert small wife power fantasy to actually have to be separated from Hades despite this being a retelling of The Abduction of Persephone, so instead of her spending three months in the Underworld, she's now spending them in the Mortal Realm, literally doubling the MINIMUM amount of time (four months) she was originally meant to reside in the Underworld.

But oh no, apparently those three months are STILL NOT SHORT ENOUGH FOR PERSEPHONE-

Of course, Rachel "Retcon" Smythe had to have her cake and eat it too. I always worried something like this was a possibility, but I never thought she would actually prove me right - not only is Persephone only separated from Hades for three months out of the year, but actually he can visit her any time he wants to, so really, they're not separating at all.

I think Rachel needs to look up "reunion" in the dictionary, because if you can visit each other any time, then that means the 'reunions' are no longer special occasions. This completely removes any semblance of depth or meaning from all of the storytelling leading up to this, all of it with the expectation that this was a retelling of the Abduction of Persephone, because that's what Rachel said it was going to be. At this point it's safe to say that Rachel has zero business attempting to "retell" mythological stories, because she doesn't even seem to grasp the concept of why they were written the way they were to begin with. Either that, or she really just doesn't care, and the only reason for making LO a Greek myth comic at all was to propel her career.

This also brings me back to those promotional ads, the other one that posed the question, "Will sacrifice be enough to bring these two back together?"

This is stating the obvious, but I need to make it perfectly clear - Hades and Persephone have never sacrificed a single thing. The only thing they could POSSIBLY quantify as a "sacrifice" is "not being tied at the hip for a few hours", because even Persephone going on the equivalent of a work trip next door is apparently enough to make Hades sad as we saw in the 3 month time skip panels. Why is Hades so sad and lonely if he can visit her any time? Why is he acting like he hasn't seen her in years when he's actually on his way to reunite with her? Why is Hecate calling to ask him if he's "okay" as if he JUST got separated from her, but actually he's about to literally go to the Mortal Realm to reunite with her?

Hades hasn't 'sacrificed' a damn thing, neither has Persephone. They've both always gotten exactly what they wanted, even at the cost of breaking the story's own established rules. Their 'sacrifice' is equivalent to what billionaires think are 'sacrifices' when they can't buy another yacht or go on that third overseas vacation for the month.

And even outside of this episode, when have these two ever sacrificed anything?

I've tried so hard to think of what sacrifices have been made by the characters within LO, and I genuinely can only think of one - and that was when Artemis chose to go to the Mortal Realm with Persephone instead of staying with her family in Olympus. That was a genuine, selfless sacrifice, made by a character who has been shelved in favor of focusing on the self-centered pink and blue airheads.

Being forced to be apart for a couple days to do the equivalent of a day job and whining about it the whole time is not a 'sacrifice'. Neither of these characters have ever sacrificed anything, they just feel like sacrifices because they have the integrity and empathy of soggy cardboard.

sigh Anyways, we're back in the present and Hades and Persephone immediately decide they're gonna have sex because ofc, and then we get this gem of a panel-

For some reason it's just a common thing for people to just be in Hades' home, and they can't seem to get any privacy as a result of this, but I digress. Turns out they still need to have that coronation for Persephone.

There is... so much wrong in these three panels.

First, to state the immediate issues - why the fuck are they mentioning Apollo at Persephone's coronation? Like first of all, no shit Apollo isn't gonna be there, but also, if this is supposed to be an event for and about Persephone becoming Queen of the Underworld, then why in the WORLD is Apollo even being mentioned? This is supposed to be a "feminist retelling" where the victims are empowered and heal from their trauma, but LO once again can't try to show any sort of positive growth for the victims without bringing up the assaulters and giving them screen time. It just goes to show that Rachel's idea of "healing" is purely rooted in the revenge, and not the growth. It's a very high schooler approach to this subject, hellbent on showcasing how all the meanies from the past are losers now and life just sucked for them forever, but inadvertently proving its own point that the victims haven't and can't move on because the narrative is spending so much time on caring what's going on with the abusers. It's the "I don't care! Look at how little I care! I'll prove it to you by putting in the effort of showing you how little I care!" approach, it doesn't really feel like moving on.

It's not about how Persephone and his other victims could have grown and healed, no, Rachel always needs to highlight just how much worse the bullies and haters and abusers are doing to make the victims seem like they've healed by comparison. Don't get me wrong, I can understand wanting to showcase the downfall of a character like Apollo, but this just... isn't the right context for that? Because it's once again taking attention away from the victim to focus on the abuser. It's once again spending screentime on the voices of the oppressors rather than the oppressed.

And speaking of, what the fuck is this punishment even? I knew Rachel wasn't gonna be able to resolve this plotline properly, she never had the capability to, but ... community service? Are you fucking for real? What is this even a punishment for even? Was this EXCLUSIVELY the SA, or does this ALSO include his attempts to overthrow Zeus by poisoning him, nearly killing Daphne, Eris, Eros and Psyche, trapping Eros and Psyche in an enchanted basement, and framing his father's 'death' on his half-sister? Because if so, how in the world is anyone content with community service? He hasn't even been turned into a mortal, HE'S STILL A GOD, so what's to stop him from going "WE'LL MEET AGAIN, SPIDERMAN" and trying something else? How is this a reasonable resolution in ANY context?

This is why I talked at length about what an issue it was to hide what Apollo really admitted to. Because now we really don't know what exactly he confessed to, and thus we can never really see the point of views of the victims outside of just Persephone - and we still don't even get Persephone's, because she just walks away from him and then he gets eaten by Ouranos and next we see of him is him doing community service! Once again, any emotional development that could be given to Persephone and the other victims is stripped away to make room for the point of views of the oppressive men. In this, the two-time-Eisner-winning "feminist comic" that is LO.

And that brings us to the "where are they now" segment. Yes, as we all feared, there's a "where are they now" segment, and it's as rushed and underwhelming as we ought to have expected it to be.

There is just... so much to unpack here, and yes, all of it is delivered in the dumbest way possible that only raises more questions than answers.

So Rhea and Metis are just back and we're not gonna talk about the implications of them being alive again?

Dionysus is a 3 month year old in the body of a teenager / young adult, and his mom is just alive now because Hades conveniently got his hands on more ambrosia and brought her back to life offscreen? But somehow Triptomelus and Hedone are still child-sized relative to their ages?

How did they 'heal Zeus'? And why is he so content with losing his power as King and Apollo being sentenced to community service after making an attempt on his life? How does he feel about the letter that Hera gave him? Did he even read it?

Where the fuck is Hebe in all of this? Is she okay? Do people still think it was her who put Zeus in a coma? Or did Apollo confess to that, too?

You're telling me Hera and Echo are just in a relationship now despite the fact that Hera is literally racist towards nymphs and there is ZERO reason for them to have a relationship in the comic beyond the fans making gratuitous headcanons out of it? How is Rachel, a bisexual woman, so bad at writing actual lesbian relationships and giving them the same amount of attention as the heterocis ones without shoving them into the background as props for insincere queer rep? And what about Hera herself? How did she overcome her role as the Goddess of Marriage to finally divorce Zeus?

"Ares is still a dog!" Haha! Ares is still a Persephone simp! Happy end!

Why is Eros just standing there smiling at the camera struggling to be seen past Hedone who's just floating right in front of him? You're telling me there wasn't a better place to put her out of that entire panel?

"Hades and Thanatos have been making more time for each other. Sometimes they even have a conversation." I'm sorry, is this supposed to be funny? The man abused Thanatos for years, treated him as just a lowly employee when he was literally his adopted son, and now you're trying to play it off as a joke that they're "making more time for each other"? What the fuck is this?

TGOEM disbanded? Why? What about the women who were genuinely a part of it?

Also, Artemis and Selene are just good friends now because reasons? Because they're both affiliated with the moon, I guess? Why is Selene even in this comic-

"They are still looking for Kassandra". Who? And why? This feels like such a last minute addition to acknowledge a character that the comic spent WEEKS foreshadowing only to have her finally appear as a pointless McGuffin, but it's so last minute that it does nothing. I'm assuming it's Eros and Psyche looking for her, but like... why can't they find her? They're gods, tracking down one mortal shouldn't be that difficult LOL ???

And also, where the fuck is Leto?? You're telling me she was an accessory - maybe manipulating Apollo, maybe not - but we don't see what happened to her? Is she just back to being a social outcast then? jesus christ this comic isn't finished-

Kassandra is where the "where are they now" sequence ends, and we're treated to one final horribly written dialogue scene between Hades and Persephone, where they tell each other how much they love each other in a desperate attempt to convince the audience that this is, in fact, a romance.

There's this thing in romances called chemistry, and if you're good at writing it, you shouldn't have to write dialogue like this. You should be able to see how much the characters love each other through their actions, through their small behaviors around each other. It's not always about what they say out loud, it's about what they don't have to say, because when two people really share that close of a bond based on love and trust and chemistry, words often aren't necessary.

Hades and Persephone do not have that chemistry. It has been apparent for years now, but this final exchange really is the nail in the coffin. There are no microexpressions or subtle emotions, no subtlety in their word choice, and nothing unique setting their voices apart. It's all just "wow thank you for being such a wonderful amazing partner, you are amazing and I love you" word salad that has to do all the heavy lifting for the completely non-existent chemistry that's been at its absolute worst throughout this entire season.

And worst of all, despite this story trying so hard to be focused around Persephone, around her story, her trauma and her healing, her voice... it's still all just about Hades. In the end, she's thanking Hades, and forcing him to say "you're welcome". All of it is trying so hard to convince us that Hades has been a positive addition to her life, that she 'owes' so much to him, but we've obviously seen plenty throughout the comic that begs to differ. And even if he were a better person than he is, it still doesn't change the fact that once again, the men are being held up above the women, with the women being grateful to the men who choose them. LO can try its hardest to convince people that it's feminist, but it is, at best, reinforcing the very same structures of the patriarchal system that it claims to despise and rebel against.

We do get one line from Hades acknowledging Persephone's part in the relationship-

-and it falls so fucking flat because it's still about him and what she does for him, and because nothing about their relationship was built on any sort of organic chemistry. There was a lot more chemistry back in S1, but it was still predicated on Hades lusting after a vulnerable 19 year old girl.

Yep, and that's it. That's the end.

Except it isn't because Rachel wanted to try and be smart by including an 'epilogue' that's really just stretching the episode out pointlessly for another few panels. And of course, we had to get another time skip, just a final dose of salt in the wound, this time to years ahead when we inevitably had to reconnect with Persephone and Hades in the future after Melinoe was born.

To recap, Melinoe doesn't remember... because Hades had Morpheus erase her memories.

This plotline has really started to give me the ick because it actually feels very familiar. Bear with me here, because I'm gonna go on a bit of a tangent about my own original work, but it's because I wrote a plotline exactly like this years ago.

There's this... turning point, in Time Gate: Reaper, when the main character Uzuki is kidnapped by a Reaper (see: undead) who wants to experiment on her in the hopes that he can somehow gain her abilities to bond her soul with others (which later allows her to literally possess people after she becomes a Reaper herself). Mitsuhiro, the male deuteragonist who kickstarts the plot by telling Uzuki she's got a limited amount of time left to live (which he knows thanks to his magical death timers that mark themselves on his skin), feels an immense amount of guilt after finding out she was kidnapped by the Reapers (at this point she's been gone for three months), as they were originally after him; he worries that she was made a target simply due to him associating himself with her, and vows to rescue her.

With the help of some other spunky teenagers and anime trope characters, Mitsuhiro does eventually rescue Uzuki - but for the three months she had been gone, she had been tortured, abused, and experimented on, causing her mind to split and for her to lose any sense of awareness of who Mitsuhiro or her other friends were. She was no longer herself after the hell she had been through.

Mitsuhiro's solution to this is to have Springlock - another Reaper with motivations that are not yet clear to the cast - erase her memory. This is not a light decision that comes without consequences - for the remaining duration of the story, Uzuki is plagued by night terrors and panic attacks, unable to really remember what happened to her aside from whatever brief flashbacks her brain recalls in its haze of memory loss. She is traumatized, both physically and mentally. She has lost three months of her life and memories, and doesn't know how to explain why she's covered in scars that are still healing, why she's missing organs, why she's now blind in one eye, and why the sound of scraping metal and ticking clocks gives her panic attacks. Mitsuhiro has convinced her friends that she's suffering from memory loss due to trauma, but only he knows the truth that he forcefully took her memories away from her, without her consent. This was not the right choice to make. It was not noble of him, it was not a grand gesture of love, he made a decision on her behalf without her consent that has now resulted in her becoming a nervous wreck. Sure, she still would have had PTSD if she remembered what happened, but at least she would know why and could then seek adequate help. Without those memories, she has nowhere to begin to heal. And so we see the consequences of this throughout [AFTERBIRTH] and even the upcoming Thread of Fate. It is a long-term problem that is not going to be solved overnight, especially not with Mitsuhiro withholding information from her.

Reading about Melinoe having dreams about her experiences trapped in Tartarus with Kronos ... it felt familiar enough that I had to talk about why the insinuations of this are so fucked up. I know there are people who are gonna handwave it away as "she's just a kid", "these are gods so what does it matter", etc. but ... it just feels like such an oversight to have Hades effectively erase her memory of her trauma and then hint at them still being present in her mind through her dreams. She did not ask for that. And the fact that she's now dreaming about it all does not bode well. But we're supposed to think Hades made the correct choice, regardless.

But none of this is effectively expanded on or explained, because we get one final scene of Melinoe and Demeter visiting Persephone, who has just given birth to... Makaria?

So it turns out Persephone and Hades are just able to have biological children now. Don't know why, but of course they both look exactly like Hades.

What I was really confused by though is the fact that it's Makaria and not Brimos. Do you remember Brimos? The child that was foreshadowed in Hades' original fantasy dream sequence about his future children about Persephone?

Either Rachel completely forgot about him, or she saw all the criticism over the fact that Brimos isn't a confirmed child of Hades and Persephone (rather, an epithet that can apply to basically any Underworld god including Persephone and Hades) and that her "research" was dependent on a book she read when she was 13 and decided to axe that. But she went to the effort of establishing that all the dreams Hades had were , in fact, canon visions of the future, so good job Rachel, you created yet another plothole on top of the hundreds of others.

And that's where the series ends, on a final nuclear-family-photo of Persephone, Hades, Melinoe, and Makaria. Of course, Dionysus and Thanatos aren't present in this shot because this is Lore Olympus and only biological children count /hj

Why Rachel couldn't move the "the end" portion to THIS part, I don't know, but I'm also expecting way too much of the person who finished this 20 minutes before it was due.

So that's it. Six years and that's what we get. I didn't expect much, but I was still incredibly disappointed, as were many others who walked away from this dazed and confused. Maybe it's all the "haters" deserve at this point. But what of the fans? While many of them are celebrating this ending at best and tolerating it at worst, I can't help but think of the fans of this comic who hung on for so long in the hopes it would "pay off", just for it to go out as gloriously as a wet fart.

As for me, I have such mixed feelings about Lore Olympus ending, but none of them pertain to the comic itself. Most of what I'll miss from this comic isn't the comic itself, but the people who have made reading it every week so fun, the artists and writers who have enriched the content with their own interpretations of what could have been, and the experiences of being part of such an amazing community made up of people who are as long-term-obsessed about this piece of media as I am.

I get people who ask me a lot if it's "worth it" to be so engrossed in the LO slander, who assume that I'm going to "regret" ever being a part of it all... but from where I'm standing right now, I couldn't ask for a better view.

Even if I didn't love every minute of it, everything I have here I owe to this comic. This stupid, wonderful, boring, amazing, pile of shit comic.

Im constantly putting out LU headcanons when I'm stupid tired at like 2am, so have a couple for funsies:

Four has seizures sometimes. The dissociative kind but also the kind that is epileptic because his brain needs to reset. Yes this is borne from people saying portals throw bricks at him in fics. I imagine that a lot of powerful magic overwhelming the brain can be a seizure trigger in the world of LoZ, as per the logic of seizures.

I also think Four's 4'4 (132cm) and does have proportionate dwarfism. Like it's specifically a random genetic mutation thing though, not a 'Minish Cap adventure kept him shrunk' thing.

Hyrule's fully fae to me. Idk I just think it's more interesting, especially if you go off of what fae are like in European folklore. The idea of a fae choosing to live like a hylian after thousands of years of witnessing how humanoid creatures live. Like they're natural shapeshifters idk, as long as their magic is powerful enough, they can become anything.

Hyrule's appearance comes from finding Legend's disguise ring after Legend died and Hyrule deciding to take on the appearance when he shape-shifts. Probably the start of getting his sisters to use masculine descriptors and pronouns for him.

People have suspicions that Hyrule is fae-inclined, touched by the fae, or straight up is a fae based on his behaviour but no one's got anything concrete and it's mostly based on their personal knowledge of fae and their era's perceptions of the fae. And Hyrule definitely has gotten them all to introduce themselves to him as Link so going by fae rules, Hyrule could basically claim ownership and power over them. He just doesn't coz he doesn't want to (yet.)

We all know Legend is a soggy bastard but he's the 'I miss my wife tails' gay edition sort of soggy. That prob made no sense icl but those who get it, get it.

Sky's got an undiagnosed form of narcolepsy. It severely got in the way of his studies in Skyloft but he barely managed to pass it off enough that it didn't raise alarm bells (coz he was trying not to raise alarm bells in his own brain). It gets worse during the course of this new adventure because he's going through so many extreme emotions and doing so much physical activity that he's exhausting himself into sleep attacks constantly. Yes the chain are worried, yes Sky is deep in denial that anything is wrong with him. Good ol' hiding your issues Link over here.

Legend is Fable's twin. He just got passed between caretakers a lot (whole lot of being given to his uncle and then being forced by the king (his grandfather) to pass Lege back to them and so on), but he remained quite attached to his sister. A telepathic link helps. The two calm each other down and lot and they take care of each other. The two are quite similar - stern, far too wise for their years with too much experience under their belts, and very very traumatised so they hide it behind a face of pure disdain.

My Zeldas are all topsy-turvy so Aurora is AoL Zelda and Dawn is LoZ 1 Zelda. Hyrule's got an amiable friendship with Dawn but his affections lie with Aurora. She's kinda insane and let herself break a shit ton of fae rules because girl is mad in love with that boy.

Athena (yes Athena fits her so much better than Artemis guys pls I've been saying this for years) is like a big sister to Time and Wind, and she has a dependable colleague-like-but-also-kinda-dependant relationship with Warriors. It's weird, she helped raise Mask and Tune in the war where she could so it stemmed from that. She also knows Twi but only in Wolfie form. Yes chat, HW really fucks up everything but you gotta roll with it, he was in the game and yes I do believe Athena met him in the game.

I've posted in the past about my hc that Legend's transformation into a rabbit leaves his skeletal and muscular structures very weak and it causes him to go limp for a short amount of time coz his body is running on fumes. Yeah so combined with his time in Holodrum as a traveling performer/acrobat, he's just insanely hypermobile and flexible, and he can basically dislocate every bones in his body that connects to a joint. Including his spine/neck he found out one day to terrifying news when he just couldn't move at all when he hit his back wrong. He can obviously relocate them too (his back he maybe needs more assistance with), but it really freaks people out.

One more coz you've gotten more than I thought I'd type. I'm spreading the Four is buff as shit propaganda. At least his upper body anyway. He's a trained blacksmith, he's gotta have a lot of strength in his arms to hammer away at melting metal all day. (Plus gotta give him some kind of advantage, that boy got the short (ha) end of the stick in life and got nerfed to all hell and back)

THE NEXT ZELDA

Things I Think The Devs Are Thinking About

This is going to be a series of posts digesting what Zelda has done/is doing recently, namely, with EOW, TOTK, BOTW (& AOC/AOI) and how that relates to the fandom and their responses to reception of these games and where the devs have clearly shown interest with their whims. I was originally going to post this as one thing, but we don’t need to be that insufferable and I’m still formulating some thoughts on the other ones. And please remember- This is speculation!

PART 1: DUO PROTAGONISTS

I think we are at the point where dual protagonist structure is on the doorstep. Echoes of Wisdom was almost that already and they seem very keen on addressing giving Zelda space to be the protagonist. It would be absolutely incredible to have this open format where you are either journeying through as Zelda in one part and Link in another, or you are actually united and have to figure out how Zelda or Link’s toolset fit into the puzzle in front of you.

It’s been a minute since we’ve had a narrator companion. Zelda has already been in that role so I think this time they have the opportunity to simply just have her be… a voiced protagonist. I’m not saying she needs to have a voice actress this time (she probably will) but it would be interesting to have dialogue happening in a more tangible light. Link DOES talk in BOTW/TOTK, but also….Imagine how they could play up the characteristic of being kind of quiet. Maybe link does not interact with NPC’s in the same way that Zelda would. Maybe he says things that are a little more simple, functional, and Zelda does a lot more negotiation and investigation. Imagine the comedy, drama, and development that can happen by having link reserving his words more and Zelda speaking very freely and openly.

Idk, I think they are trialing the interest of zelda with the voice memories too- do players have interest in Zelda lore dropping on us, as we explore the world? I think the answer to that is a resounding yes. Imagine as you’re exploring as Zelda, or with Zelda, and it gives you the option to let her lore drop if you wanna hear it. It’s not forced on you, it’s not required, it doesn’t stop you from doing what you’re doing. It’s there to engage in if you want. I think people would want that & the new totk content is probably gonna be wanted in the base game next time.

And I also think they already kind of trialed this in the BEGINNING of TOTK too. Link is there to make the path safe for Zelda so she can interpret ruins and offer context for what you’re going through. I think my only complaint about that beginning section was how she ripped attention away from moving forward to demand the player pay attention to what she was doing. It was necessary as an opening act in a video game where you wouldn’t necessarily know to not skip past that, but in a more sustained capacity, the ability to skip over it would be right in the heart of how they’ve been developing these games- and I think a lot of players would appreciate that.

Further on teamwork, EOW’s last dungeon felt like a prototype for swap-between puzzles. I honestly really liked it. And while I didn’t really like sword mode for EOW, a game starring both Zelda and Link has a lot of potential for that kind of switching dynamic to work out really cool and feels like a fertile ground for creating challenge and interesting puzzles. I genuinely wanted more puzzles where Link & Zelda got split from each other in a room and had to independently figure out how to solve it. That fucking owned, even though it was only like three rooms.

It also defines and reinforces their skillsets a little bit more. Narratively speaking, Link is not credited for all of the creative adventuring you do that often, despite you showing a lot of wit and creativity and wizardry as link. He’s credited as a swordsman most often, and Zelda is the priestess. It makes sense for her to have the wacky powers and being more oriented towards creative wizardry and sleuthing and for him to be a audacious Fliptastic acrobatic fighter. Obviously, they are also defining Zelda as being insanely capable in combat, as we see in EOW & soon AOI. Combat = Link and Puzzle = zelda do not need to be mutually exclusive to each other- they both can be forces of nature and creativity and wit. But I think it gives them a lot of space to be defined and complement their skill sets in navigating solving puzzles and doing combat. Dungeon items can be made to be more Linky or more Zelday. Link could get a hookshot, Zelda could get a superpower. It just makes sense to me. I would love it if Zelda retain some of her summoning power from EOW, and Link retained a lot of his cool adventuring gear. They both can be capable in every aspect of gameplay, but one is tinted more magically and the other is tinted more adventurously.

And although the Sages in TOTK are sloppy implementations, they are 100% a trial of what it feels like to have people follow you around, and how you may possibly interact with them to engage with their abilities. I think there’s a lot of successes and failures learned from the way that they were implemented. A second pass on reactive companions could work out in a really cool way, and it’s not like there aren’t 1 million other examples in other games that worked better that they can learn from. They’re thinking about this and I don’t think they’re done with it!

i know a lot of people probably wouldn’t like this, but the notion of having to look out for both characters & make sure that they can complete their task while you do yours is fascinating to me. Imagine you can even choose which character you want to use in a fight or troubling situation. When you’re link, you gotta keep the baddies away from Zelda, disarm bosses through their various phases, and deal the finishing blow. When Zelda, you gotta maintain and complete seals/spells, keep baddies away from link, and change the shape of the battlefield in your favor. You may even have players that end up preferring one or the other in the challenges that come from being one or the other. It could make the game more accessible in that way. Imagine sometimes you get separated, and have to find the other one and break them out of a situation. This is something that could happen in particular story beat points, or be a consequence/complication of exploration that entice you to solve puzzles or explore areas you may otherwise miss or skip over.

And Imagine how dual protags opens up the possibilities for co-op! I would love an open world Zelda, where my partner can just drop in and drop out however we please. Imagine one of you exploring one end of the map while the other explores the other end. It would be so insane if that flexibility was a primary feature of the next Zelda. I wouldn’t even mind if the game was relatively conservative structurally if that was the primary gimmick. I really think it’s worth exploring.

And this isn’t even to mention four swords and what they may have learned from that experiment.

Genuinely, I think this duo protagonist concept is eminent. Out of all the things that are going to happen next, this one feels like the idea they are coming around to most. It could please a lot of people and it could be done in a way that doesn’t require you to sacrifice Link’s or Zelda’s importance in the story, or even your capacity to play the whole game as just one of them if you really wished that.

For Wild, Wars, Time, and Twilight as far as they know they will never see the one they're saying farewell to ever again. so they say farewell knowing this will be the last time they see their loved one, but they're offering them a sort of comfort that the receiver of these words will see them again, it's something they would kill for personally, they think it's a gift, a comfort

but it's never so simple. because they aren't really being reunited properly are they?

elle is right! as i was drawing wars I was thinking about how to convey that he was trying to hold it together and show the others that everybody leaving wasn't tearing him apart. he especially had to show a strong front for wind. as discussed above, elle said it perfectly, wars knows this is it for him! he'll never see his brothers again, and he it would hurt too much to hope for another chance like meeting the chain.

elle also brings up an interesting point of how wind can say the same thing to the pair of them during the war, i was thinking about that myself while i was working on this series and IT WOULD HURT SO MUCH, THE CYCLE OF SAYING FAREWELL, OF THE SWEET WHITE LIE.

but i always flip flopped on if wind would.

what do you guys think? do you think wind, twilight, or time would say something similar to their counterparts like they did to them?

while i was drawing these, i thought about how all of the wolf trio ended up saying the white lie to someone. wild is the only one who doesn’t really have the experience of teaching a protege. time and twilight however are both the liar and the lied to.

voidsshadow is so right! twi especially knows what wild is implying because he’s lived through it with time. twi and time have both been through so much and they still have things to do after death but they wouldn’t trade this time with their protege for anything no matter how imperfect the reunion is

they both must have known what their protege meant and they were prepared for it. but no amount of preparation can soften the blow.

however, they’ve both lived a long time before going back to teach their protege, their age makes the white lie more bitter and they’re more tired

wind in the meantime, had no prior time travel experience with another link, he had no preparation, he took the white lie at face value, he’s still young when he joins the war of eras, and when the reunion actually happens and he realizes his brothers don’t know him anymore, he was all the more devastated for it
