tommy calling buck ‘evan’ during their entire relationship and the first, and only time, he calls him buck is after he breaks up with him. eddie calling buck ‘evan’ only once and it was when he gave buck his goddamn son. the only time tommy called him buck was before leaving and the only time eddie called him evan was when he gave buck proof of him and chris staying. of them wanting buck. of them keeping buck. id say “which could meaning nothing!” but it actually means everything.

buck not letting eddie give in to his insecurity about the job. buck not letting eddie talk himself out of his decision to move. buck holding eddie accountable for lying to chris and taking into account how chris must be feeling but also reminding him that all he needs is his dad. and that's exactly why he's eddie's partner in life and always will be, because he will never fail to consider what's best for both eddie AND christopher and to help them get there.

okay actually i do need to say this. before i sleep. because if you genuinely believe that buck. BUCK BUCKLEY. truly saw a future with tommy and that this relationship was any different to his previous relationships. you do not understand buck buckley and frankly you never have. like, this is made abundantly clear during the conversation with josh. if you actually care to pay attention. because time and time again buck bases his identity, self-worth and happiness on the person he is dating. josh asks him if he considers tommy's happiness in the same way he considers his own. and buck's answer is yes, of course. because he is fundamentally unable to tell the difference between the two. because he thinks that making tommy happy is the same as being happy himself. when, actually, it's at the expense of his own happiness. he misunderstands entirely what josh is trying to say. he impulsively asks tommy to move in with him because he thinks it will make tommy happy which will then also make him happy. because buck is nothing if not a people pleaser. due to, well. the Trauma. he never got off the hamster wheel. dating a man didn't fix any of this. because it was never about that (and suggesting it was is, well. biphobic actually). buck's issue has always been that he does not know how to be in a relationship without shrinking himself down to the shape and size of a person he thinks his partner wants and losing himself in the process. which he was about to do again. and well. lmao. for once tommy's self-preservation was actually a good thing. because wow, that could have been taylor all over again.

also also. like i know we've talked about the husbandism but i don't think we've talked about the specifics of it enough because that was like. rehearsed. buck rambles his way through a story and eddie provides contextualising information for those who aren't grossly entwined in his life and buck knows to take breaths to let eddie do this before seamlessly picking the thread of the narrative back up. it's literally insane. you can tell this is something they've done a thousand times before. THE RITUALS!!! THEY'RE INTRICATE!!!!!!!

buddie divorce arc is so beautiful to me because they are both saying absolutely crazy shit they do not mean simply as a coping mechanism for how hard they are about to crash out without each other. “no ties here” / “everything that matters is in texas” / “i’m not an abandoner” / “i don’t need you either” / “you’re making it about you again”. this is real, nuanced, complex conflict they’re having. they are acting like real people too. no one is perfect. there are no sides to be chosen. both are acting and reacting. buck is being snide and petty, eddie is yelling at him because he can’t handle that. and everything is a mess. and it’s all simply because they love each other, they are not emotionally equipped to deal with this being their circumstance. and one big grand gesture at the end melts all that fight away for good because—yes, eddie, buck really would do that for you, even if he went about it in the most buck way possible. he loves you that much. i love buddie. we are so lucky to get to watch this unfold together
