FrUK also good in the Rake Courtship AU because literally all of Fran's former lovers, friends and acquaintances hate Arthur, literally EVERYONE would be on board with NOT making this happen, François is trying to make this arranged marriage with this stick-up-his-arse Englishman work ONLY to prove something to himself. No one is making him do it - at this point his parents are barely making him do it, but he is undeterrrrrred.

Got a sweet message about my FrUK posts. So have a few more headcanons for posterior posterity:

Arthur developed a crush on Francis almost immediately after they met as children. He used to trail behind Francis like a tousel-headed duckling after a swan. Scarlet faced and hanging on to the back of Francis’s robes. Francis found it adorable but didn’t reciprocate. You know how kids are. Even though there would only be a few years between them in human terms, young Francis already saw himself as far too old and sophisticated to return the affections of his “little baby” neighbour. He couldn’t resist teasing Arthur and giggling at his childish efforts at courtship. Only to feel bad when the teasing inevitably went too far. Francis promised himself he wouldn’t do it again every time he saw little Arthur’s lip tremble and his eyes fill with tears. Kids are cruel unfortunately and Francis broke that promise more often than not. He grew up to be kind in love, but he didn’t start out that way. Actually, remorse over the way he treated Arthur was probably one of the reasons Francis grew up to be kind in love.

Their childhood friendship soured after the Norman conquest made England a French colony (kinda, sorta. It’s complicated). They’d both suffered under Rome and Arthur naively expected Francis to do more to protect him. Only to be shocked and hurt by Francis’s seeming callousness. Francis wasn’t really callous. He was just older and understood their situation better. This blew up into their first really bad fight. Francis kept insisting William would be a good king and Arthur should just accept the situation with grace for his peoples’ sake. Arthur kept begging Francis to do something to help him. Francis - much more miserable than he was letting on - lost his temper. He exploded at Arthur in uncharacteristic rage: calling him an idiot baby and saying it was no wonder he kept getting conquered. That he deserved it for being so stupid and weak. Francis was going through national personification “growing pains” at the time. Chin deep in dealing with the angst of the actually-kinda-horrifying-if-you-think-about-it existence of their kind. Something I headcanon all nation people experiencing when they’re old enough. Arthur, still too young to understand, was stunned and dismayed. The guilt at seeing him this way only made Francis angrier. He ranted at Arthur, who ran away sobbing and hid for days. Francis, still horribly guilty, pushed it down with bitterness and didn’t apologise for a long time. One of Arthur’s worst traits is his ability to bear a grudge and, oh boy, did he bear one after that. Even after he himself grew old enough to understand, he didn’t let Francis off the hook for his cruel outburst. Swore he’d get revenge someday and make Francis feel the same pain he did under William. A “someday” that would come a few centuries years later during the Hundred Years War.

They are both perfectly capable of speaking the other’s language but choose to communicate in their mother tongues. Arthur complains constantly about Francis and his “frog language” but secretly* he finds French unbearably sexy. Especially the French exonym for England. All Francis has to do is purr Angleterre in Arthur’s ear and he’s all shivers and tight pants.

Arthur’s first kiss was given to him by Francis: a quick peck during their childhood days. He was very disappointed to learn he wasn’t Francis’s first kiss in return. That was Antonio who, ironically enough, ended up being the one Arthur lost his virginity to. As a prisoner on Antonio’s ship during the Age of Sail. Pirate sex, yo! You gotta love it. Meanwhile Francis’s first time was with a young, French farmhand. A very beautiful mortal who came to a sad end. The encounter left him overpowered by a draining need for Francis that mortals aren’t capable of resisting. A human can’t cope with romantic love for a nation person without being ripped apart by its intensity. The poor man eventually went mad and drowned himself in the river. Near to the bank where he’d first made love to Francis. Which traumatised Francis so badly when he found out that he never became romantically involved with a human again. Yeah, for some reason I headcanon Francis as suffering a great deal from being a national personification. I don’t know, I just see him as seeming to carry a lot of sadness from it, you know?

Francis is one of the few non-magical nation people who can see Arthur’s fae friends. Not often and not very clearly. He’ll just catch a glimpse every once and a while. Out of the corner of his eye when the light is right.

As nation-people, they can’t get married in the human way unless their countries join in a political union. Instead they have the equivalent for their kind. The “next best thing” for personifications. It’s another headcanon I play with. I’m not sure what it would be, but some kind of “terra” wedding? Non-binding in any legal way, but a symbolic way of making it official. Only recognised by other nation-people. Like they’d still have rings but wear them on chains around their necks instead of on their fingers. Because symbolism. Both romantic and tragic! So yeah, in modern times they’re married and call each other “husband.” Just in a way that avoided creating Angevin Empire 2: Electric Boogaloo, hehe.

Arthur is slo-o-o-owly getting over his Alfred induced blood spitting sickness as time passes. In the early years after the American War for Independence, he would get it so badly that he was crashed out and bedbound from mid-June to late August. Alasdair would take over as leader while Arthur was indisposed so the UK could carry on as normal on the world stage. These days Arthur is doing much better and is usually up and about before the end of July. Unfortunately Francis’s birthday is Bastille Day and, try as he might, Arthur still isn’t strong enough to get out of bed by the 14th. Let alone do anything to make Francis’s day special. They had lots of fights about it after they became a couple. Arthur is a stubborn creature and two things bring it out that trait particularly badly: hiding weakness, and his love for Francis. Yeah, not a good combo for this situation, lol. Francis kept postponing or cancelling his party to come to England and nurse his sick spouse. Something Arthur absolutely did not want. It made him feel even worse to know he was keeping Francis from what should be his happiest day. Already cranky, he would tell Francis to piss off back home and leave him be. Francis would retort that Arthur was an obstinate fool if he thought Francis could enjoy himself when the love of his life was alone in bed vomiting blood. Arthur couldn’t make Francis leave (he even picked the lock and broke in once!) so instead he tried to force himself to attend the party. Relying on magic and handfuls of human medicine to keep himself upright. A bold attempt which only made everything worse. The staff at the Élysée Palace still haven’t gotten all the bloodstains out of the furnishings. One explosive fight later, Francis and Arthur came to a compromise. Arthur spends July in France where Francis can look after him. In return for Arthur tolerating his fussing, Francis attends his birthday party. Promising to put Arthur out of his mind for one full day and night.

I like the headcanon that all nation-people are good looking. That even the least of them would be considered very beautiful by human standards. Fits with the “more than human, less than gods” thing they’ve got going on. I think Francis would be the most beautiful of them all. So much of his history and culture revolves around the appreciation of art, love, and beauty. I think it would “come out” in him as a personification and he would be a work of art himself, you know? So much so that he would have to “tone it down” around humans to avoid hurting them. Other nation-people aren’t harmed like the poor farmhand was, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get tongue-tied around gorgeous Francy-pants. Especially the younger ones. His good looks radiate off him like the sun’s rays. Something he passed on to Alfred, incidentally. Meanwhile Arthur isn’t as stunning at a glance - you wouldn’t take a second look at him if you saw Francis first - but instead he has the kind of beauty that surprises you. Visitors are always shocked at how lovely Britain is once they get out of the tourist traps and see “real” parts of the country like the Lake District or the Cotswolds. It’s an unexpected but pleasant revelation. I think Arthur’s beauty would be like that: hidden, but then suddenly smacks you in the face and leaves you stunned. Francis would have been one of the first to notice, beauty connoisseur that he is.

Arthur And Francis Got Divorced But Ended Things On Good Terms. They Stayed Close By And Kept In Touch Quite Literally Living On The Same Street. One Day During A BTT Conversation, The Topic Of Their Divorce Comes Up And Francis Says They Simply Fell Out of Love And That He Didn’t Feel Like Talking About A Failed Marriage But Rather New Love (Prussia And Canada Were A Thing, Not Important) Anyway Prussia Asks How Failed Of A Marriage It Really Was If Arthur Still Wore His Wedding Ring. Francis Still Somewhat In Love With Arthur Invites Him Out To Dinner Desperate To See If What PrussiaHad Said About The Ring Was True.

From There It’s Basically Them Going On A Date And Getting Back Together. It’s Cute, It’s Fluffy, Kinda Sad Because Of Them Reminiscing About Their Past. They’re Idiots And They’re Still In Love.

Well... it's kinda been my first ship in Hetalia, even before Gerita or Fruk.

I find Gerfra very attractive for the whole European project thing. They are literally THE power couple. You can find so much stuff on recent news about those two lmao. Plus I do find their chemistry together really good, whether in canon or in most fanon work. Their personalities are literally so funny when put together. I mean, I guess you have seen the pecs scene....

I absolutely eat the shit out of any fanfiction exploring the way their relationship would evolve from WWII to today. It's an enemy to lovers but going way faster than Fruk. From hatred to awkwardness, to friendship and maybe love (not every fanfiction has them as lovers but they're still so good). Add the whole HRE story and fkjdkdbdkeje

Also there's the fact that I'm French, that I've always seen so much stuff about Franco-german relations (whether for commemoratons or at school). Also my dad is a huge ARTE fan and ESPECIALLY Karambolage. So.. those things might have helped ?

Anyway. I really REALLY recommend you go read fanfics about those two, even if it's platonic, it's great. Also, I'd recommend you check out some of @oplusplus 's works on Gerfra if you haven't already Parents!Gerfra is just so uuuughsksjdk (sorry o++ for the tag if you didn't want it..)

Not only cause like I wish everyday i die and come back as even a sliver of Prussia and Japan is my favorite character and it’s basically just the perfect opposites attract but also the same attract lemme explain

Prussia on the outside is this loud brash egotistical shit but really he’s truly a deep old soul who’s really just a really chill guy. In my mind he plays up the “I AM AWESOME!!” As a front so people never think of him as a weakling and fear him even though he kinda looks like a idiot, it’s better than being remembered as a nobody. When with Japan, he doesn’t need to be so on edge and put up this front. He relaxes, he’s calm, he’s real!! He doesn't feel judged or needs to play a part he can just relax and not worry about proving a point.

Japan tries his best to understand the world around him, his new found interest in the people around him and their lives. He desperately wants to connect better with people, he’s like a curious child when it comes to this. He’s still very much a old soul and can be a cranky old man, and he’s finally comfortable with showing that! He can het sassy and sarcastic with Prussia, not having to hold his tongue. He can be real and raw and not refrain from speaking cause Prussia loves to hear him talk!!

Also like the way i fell to my knees and cried inside learning they hang out and Japan used -kun instead of -san like with everyone else showing their friendship. Also the episode where Prussia got him the Christmas tree is my crack like YESSS NOW YOU CAN SEE IT YESSSS TAKE IT TAKE MY FOOD AND EAT IT. I wanna see more of their deep friendship that hima just like never touched on but confirmed like WHAT NO SHOW US SHOW UP THIS FRIENDSHIP GOD DAMNIT!!!

In conclusion, they are the same guy but like swapped and like perfect puzzle pieces put together. They are in love and my one true pairing

Other favs include FrUK cause rivals/enemies to/and lovers is my literal drug, its a on going trend with me blame Sonadow it started it. GerIta is also a main, i know these are “basic” and safe ships so far but shut up they’re cute they make my heart melt. Especially the dynamic where Italy is a little shit and Germany is just a awkward yet stern guy like yes…good…good meal. Romerica was my crack for a little while, not super into it anymore but i still like it. Ameripan is also good chef kiss. RusAme my lover my dear sweet lover, my darling my sweetheart. They are just like UGHH CHOKING THEM BUT LOVINGLY. Their dynamic is so fun and silly i cant quite explain it. I do kinda giggle when people make it super serious cause in my mind they are so unseriously serious. GiriPan was my first main Japan ship, not super hardcore into it anymore since i met my one true love PruPan but holds a place in my heart i still eat it.

I mostly eat just about any ship besides like the incest/pedo debate pool. Ok thing though is I cannot for the life of me cannot decide if i like Spamano or not though cause like, i don’t think they’re family imma tell you that they never seemed like that to me but like, the age thing. It just rubs me the wrong way. I might dive into ships i feel iffy but thats a issue for another day

Sorry that took so long, I was a bit preoccupied with farming for Rizzley (Wriothesley in Genshin Impact) I'm just drinking some Tea and watching Nimona for probably the 50th time lol Sooo… here you go: Part 4 (again: GIF for attention)

Bal waking up, noticing the blanket, looking around, seeing the tea and candles (completely ignoring the hilt of the morning star behind te cup) and just sighing kind of content as if he wakes up like this often is just precious and supptly highlights his relationship with Amb and I just kind of love it, I guess

also Bal being awake and alert right away even tho he was just about to relax cause he prob thought he's with Amb and all is good and stuff is also kind of competent again

One thing I'm gonna cram in here tho cause I just saw the portrait of the queen: I recently read somewhere that they wanted to get Dr. Blitzmeyer (I hope I remember her name correctly lol) in the movie but ultimately scrapped her buuut they kept the design/color scheme for the queen and I just… Blitzmeyer helped and supported Comic!Bal, the queen helped and supported Movie!Bal (even if it's a bit of a different relationship, I guess) and that's kinda cute ngl. I kinda missed Dr. Blitzmeyer, she was my fav character in the comic and I was a bit sad that she didn't make it into the movie

Bals face (and probably the camera movement) when he remembers what happened when they broke out of the institute reminds me of some anime protag who goes a bit insane, but I can't remember a particular anime I feel remembered of

Bal always the knight, trying to get his sword when he feels threatened, even tho he doesn't even have it on him

the hand gesture to "Meatball" lol and also: very nice line delivery by Chloe Grace Moretz, she's also a big part of why I liked the character of Nimona (even tho I also like her design and personality, without a good VA a character can be not that likeable, if you know what I mean)

Bals hesitation (and probably inner monolouge) is kinda fun to see but also very undertandable, I mean: he knows her how long now? And even tho he redeems himself fast enough, here he is very much and very heavy still under the brain washing of the Institute and knows now that Nim is not human, so I kinda understand why he's so hesitant but he's desperate and she can (and will) voluntarily help him

Nim just rubbing salt in the wound, cause she knows exactly that he doesn't have much of a choice

He clearly wondered how she got there so fast and I love these kind of little reactions throughout the movie, they show how vigilant the character are and it feels even more real, cause let's be honest: if you're talking to someone who is like 10 steps away, you blink and then they are right before you, you'd also not gloss over that without so much as a second glance, would you?

love that Nim already moved from Sidekick-for-a-evil-villain to clear-his-name-and-be-a-hero-sidekick

the shark transformation is just nice: the fluidity, the sound effect, Nims look, the lighting, the fact that you probably didn't really expect it, just *chefs kiss*

her "I'm not a girl, I'm a shark." is also very iconic, even tho it's used just one time in the movie; still one of the best lines ngl also her face when she says "But I'm not a girl." and the lil bite animation and sound is very nice

"Hey. You ever put your head in the mouth of one of these?", that line delivery and the animation for that and Bal already being done with the convo lol

"Should've just stayed in jail." lol

Enemies to lovers - Fruk and Rusame

Like an old married couple - Also Fruk.

Girlboss/Malewife - Aushun, nuff said.

Childhood sweethearts - To me, this is Lietbel (my OTP). They also have a knight/lady or princess dynamic, but this even could apply to Lietpol too because... Feliks IS the pretty princess. 🤣

Arranged marriage - Lietpol because of the Union of Krewo and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. But I also can see this in Lietbel in historical Hetalia, as the Principality of Polotsk (considered the first proto-Belarusian state) joined with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to avoid invasions from both the Teutonic Knights and Mongol Empire. It could be a 3-way marriage union... or 4 if you count Ukraine? 😉

Oh man, I have a lot! I'm going to list some old fanfics I faved on my old FFNet acc that I used to love in high school though, because I hardly read fanfics anymore.

Nineteen Ninety - VoicesoftheSoul - One of the first fics of my OTP Lietbel I've read.

Belaya Rus: On a Spring Day in 1487 - rev lady mal - Belarus history-centric. This fic first introduced me to learning about the history of Belarus and her long history with Lithuania in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. There are historical inaccuracies and she comes off as OOC, but I appreciate this fic as an attempt to show her history that is not known in the mainstream in Hetalia-style – and not portray her to be a hostile bitch or have a romantic or sexual obsession over Ivan.

Rings, Rejection, and an Unintentional Fiancé - Anonymous Dream Echo - One of my ultimate fave Lietbel fanfics! I still go back to re-read this here and there despite there being some cultural inaccuracies.

Plastic Talks - Mandelene - This fic kinda helped me cope with my teen angst and issues at the time. Still is a so well-written high school AU of Nyo!America.

Raven Tears - Dontmezwitme - Probably one of the most heartwrenching fics about loss and colonization of the Americas I've read. This focuses on the fanon personification of all American Indians/Indigenous Americans and First Nations raising her twin sons that later became known as the U.S. and Canada.

Childs Play - pupeez4eva - It sadly never finished but this was my favorite comedy fic of nations being turned back into their child selves.

A Colony, a Babysitter, and an Old Rivalry - TheFreakZone - A comedy fic on England planning a date with France but is looking for a babysitter for Gibraltar. Spain volunteers because he wants to claim him back. So many good witty liners!

30. BroTP? Headcanons?

When I was in high school, America/Canada was my BroTP (still love em tho!) but now as an adult, they are Poland/Belarus, Poland/Hungary (sometimes, I ship them romantically 😅), and Lithuania/Latvia!

Most of my headcanons for each here below will be referencing real-life history.

Poland/Balarus:

Natallia sees Feliks more as an actual brother than her "biological" brother Ivan, as they were around each other often for most of their later childhood and adolescent years during the Polish-Lithuania union and Commonwealth. The Belarusian language is greatly influenced by Polish. I know in canon their relationship comes off as more hostile, but I depict them in my head as having a bickering sibling-like relationship.

Because of their history, Natallia and Feliks can speak a vernacular language/dialect that may be a creole and strange mix of Polish and Belarusian: Tutejšy (or tutejszy). It was commonly spoken by peasants since it was simple speech. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that in Lithuania near the Lithuania-Belarus border, you can find some elderly Lithuanian Poles speaking it, except it may be blended with the Russian language too.

Feliks calls Natallia "Nastka," a Polish diminutive of her name. She calls him "Felek."

They both LOOVE gossiping and spilling to each other pop culture tea! I mean, Natallia knows so much countless trivia, even Paris Hilton's dog name, in canon so I can see her being a bit chronically online googling celeb tea.

Poland/Hungary:

They've been besties forever since early childhood, even married at least once before Poland married Lithuania.

Austria definitely has his moments of being jealous of their friendship.

Both are fluent in each others' languages and when they communicate, they speak in a creole language that baffles other countries because it sounds "so strange." Hungarian is not considered an Indo-European language.

Feliks calls Erzsébet "Ela" and "Ellcia," Polish diminutives of her name.

Lithuania/Latvia:

I generally consider them both to be "biological" brothers since they're both Baltic, with Lithuania being the older sibling. Although, sometimes I like toying with the idea they're cousins because Lithuania and Latvia do have diverging cultures/histories.

They love playing basketball together (although, Raivis' true favorite sport is hockey since it's Latvia's most popular sport). And they both act like loud frat boys when watching games, whether in person or on TV.

They both like to pull potato-themed pranks occasionally on Belarus and Ireland, some other countries with high potato consumption and have potato stereotypes.

Raivis has physically aged more since declaring independence in the 90s and his economy growing stronger, so he's now physically 17 – and has grown taller than Tolys!

Both are great singers and dancers, but Raivis is the "better" one.

Unlike Tolys, Raivis does not dislike Gilbert as much, at least not as much as he used to. But Raivis is willing to join in with Tolys in annoying him.

Hum... difficult question. I don't usually write angst. There's a Van Helsing OS but I haven't posted it on AO3 yet. I do love to write certain characters turned as vampire against their will, a lot, but I can't say which fic about that trope is the angstiest... Maybe My Blood in Offering, a Krolfred OS, or even La bête humaine (Harry Potter, a Beast of Gévaudan AU, kinda). I can't say for sure...

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

LOL, most of my fics are happy fics so it will be hard to choose which one I consider to have the happiest ending. Maybe Auld Lang Syne or Sleeping Arthur, two Kaamelott OS with Arthur and Perceval.

7. Do you write crossovers?

Rarely, but it happened. I once wrote a Makai Ouji/Black Butler crossover Nevermore, and I would like to try writing for this crossover again. I also wrote a Harry Potter/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory crossover where Willy Wonka was a wizard (Le Procès de Willy Wonka), I had fun writing it!

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No and I hope it won't happen in the future.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I did (two Krolfred OS: Behind closed doors and L'abîme des songes), not very ambitious since I'm not used writing smut but it was an interesting challenge. I also have two Grindeldore OS (À fleur de peau and Nos rencontres éphémères) but the sexual content is really non-graphic.

Not that I know.

Yes! Le Soleil Levant (Francis&Napoléon, Hetalia) has been translated into Polish; also two Tanz OS (Behind closed doors and My Blood in Offering) translated in Russian.

Aaah it's a difficult choice. How can you expect me to choose?

Though, if I see the amount of works on my AO3, I've written for Grindeldore (Gellert Grindelwald/Albus Dumbledore) the most.

Most of my fics are mostly about platonic pairs than romantic ones.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Uuh... Maybe L'Alouette (a FrUK OS) or L'ennemi de mon ennemi (a Van Helsing multichapter fic)

Good question. I love getting into the characters's head, writing their thoughts and feelings, as well as writing platonic pairs, but I don't know if it's a strength of mine.

You mean adding words or sentences in another language when I'm reading fics in my own language or in English? Well... I don't mind if it's a couple of words in a sentence (and if the author adds the translation, though I found it annoying to have to go in the author's notes, at the end of the fic, to go check the translation)

Harry Potter.

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

No fandom comes to my mind, but I would love to write Alfred/Sarah (Tanz der Vampire), though Krolfred is my OTP, I have a lot of fondness for this ship and I would like to try writing about them. Same thing, I would like to write a Arthur/Francis/Ludwig fanfic (Hetalia) one day. I also wish to write about César/Astérix one day and not just them as a platonic pair

Ouch hard to decide again. I'm still proud of La Marque as well as Sleeping Arthur regarding my Kaamelott fics. Regarding Tanz, I really love A New Perspective and Die Fledermaus. For Makai Ouji, I still love Innocence and Curiosity, though The Witching Hour is very self-indulgent hehe. I'm also fond of some fics from Gauloiseries (Astérix); but I really can't choose, between these fics, which one is my absolute favourite.

ryoji is literally death. ryoji/minato . but sasunaru would scream and shout and cry with all the appropriate teenaged melodrama and put up a good fight

this is one of the ones where im just like. Why would they fight. tatsujun, probably, would win in a fight. but why would they fight. they seem like a combination of characters who would absolute hate each other's vibes and avoid each other at all costs. tatsuya and ike would be chill though

now this one is HARD. romano isn't strong so that gives prumano team a disadvantage but arthur is like 24/7 dying of lead poisoning which also gives fruk team a disadvantage. hes angrier though, hes like an abused small dog and can go rabid on command if he wants to. romano is obviously an angry person but i dont think it translates to fighting prowess the way arthur's does. romano is the physical manifestation of the idiom "all bark and no bite"

now. now obviously gilbo can go war-mode if pushed. and war-mode gilbo goes into fights to Win. francis is probably like his no. 1 opponent when he's in war mode anyway. basically what im saying is that i think gilbert would see red upon spotting francis in this context and they would start fighting like yowling stray cats. meanwhile romano and arthur would punch each other once each and arthur would be fine but romano would fall down and start crying and arthur would roll his eyes and be like actually this is kinda stupid. what are we doing .

nobody wins the frapru fight by the way eventually arthur and romano get bored and separate them. but i suppose if they went on ... francis would have.

22) your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

all of it, apparently asdfg. i think the outsourcing series, which is decently popular with liet fans who bother reading canon at all pre-WS, deserves mention though, partly because it singlehandedly got me into the idea of shipping lol

23) ship you've unwillingly come around to

you know, funnily enough, lietpol. i don't think i ever, like, hated it to be clear but it had a few things against it, namely: a) feliks is a pretty minor character, and in the early days he felt considerably less developed than liet....or liet's other ship options. b) the way early fandom wrote feliks........was not good. if i'm being so honest lol i never disliked his character, but his presence in a fic would often make me nope out on the basis of dialogue alone lmao. c) a bit later on, when antis started to be a thing, some of the worst of that group in the heta fandom were lietpol fans, and as a rusliet shipper i received....mostly anonymous harassment, but i do think most of it came from that particular clique because i do know they were harassing others, which obviously soured me to it a bit (this has also really soured me on fruk over the past few years tb quite h). also c.1) this same clique dominated lietpol stuff for awhile and made it suuuuper cute and fluffy and no conflict allowed between them ever, and there's still kinda remnants of that in "mainstream" so to speak fan stuff of them, and it's just. annoying to me on multiple levels lol

but even the irl history of the two countries aside (tho obviously that gets. very messy too lmao) i think they're a good and interesting ship when you're actually working with them in character lol

Feel a little introspective so have some of my thoughts on the dynamics of various England ships. Aside from FrUK because I post so much about them already:

EngPan: Lonely, isolated introvert meets lonely, isolated introvert. Together they are…still introverted and isolated but less lonely, hehe. Feels like Kiku would fall for Arthur first and Arthur would be clueless for a while then very flustered and in denial when he found out. Then a loooong courtship with a lot of pussyfooting around and “After you.” “No, no, after you.” “No, I insist.” “No, I insist.” dancing around. But they make it in the end. Quite a sweet love story all in all.

GerEng: Kuudere/Tsundere courtship farce! How does Arthur cope with meeting someone even more emotionally constipated than he is? Oh my god these two would be excruciating. Lol, I kinda love it. By the time they actually got together, the world might have ended already. But I think they’d rub along pretty well once they were actually established as a couple, you know? It would take so long that they would already have learnt how to deal with the other’s worst points

PortEng: Childhood sweethearts face down the world and make it together. The ship with the least amount of drama. A simple two puzzle pieces click together and everything is good. Not that they never argue or have spats, but it’s just normal couples stuff. Healthy disagreements and healthy making up from a healthy couple. “And they lived happily ever after.” Maybe they had an arranged marriage but it turned out to be perfectly arranged, luckily enough.

PrUK: I don’t know who you think you are but I know this much is true, I wanna do bad things with you ~ 🎵 Punk pair with a shared bloody history and plenty of fight, sex, and steel left in them. They egg each other on and bring out the other’s savage side. Very unstable until they both grow up and mature (if they ever do) but damn, so much fun along the way. They’d each enjoy facing someone who could match them.

RusEng: The eternal outsiders of Europe find each other. The biggest stumbling block would be how fricking terrified Arthur is of Ivan. Like it would take a long time before Ivan could convince Arthur he’s actually romantically interested in him and not there to make a cloak of his skin lmao. Feels like Arthur would be attracted to this sexy, feral Russian, built-like-a-fridge beast man and hate it. Then Ivan would cotton on, decide “oh, okay. Turns out I like him back. Let’s become one be together.” and that would be that. Ivan takes the lead and “no” isn’t really in his lexicon. But Arthur likes him back, so yay? Lol, live your best life with that sub kink you’ve just discovered you have, Arthur. They can work on the emotional stuff later

SpUK: Pure and simple rum-swilling, sword fighting, enemies-to-lovers with plenty of hate fucking along the way. Arthur looks up to Antonio as an inspiration before the Age of Sail. Gets himself a little crush on this sexy, sexy Spaniard who he’s meant to hate. Antonio doesn’t pay attention to Arthur at first. Until this upstart island nation starts shamelessly stepping (sailing?) all over his territory. Then he’s intrigued, then pissed, then amused when he notices Arthur’s crush, then simultaneously pissed and horrified when he realises he might actually be okay with a roll in the hay with the Protestant dog. It grows from there.

USUK: Do I even need to say anything? Sunny extrovert loves moody introvert pure goodness. Happy and clueless(?) meet gloomy and overthinks everything. Opposites attract. A painful past becomes a bright future. So much potential and good stuff with Alfred and Arthur it almost feels too obvious to post about it lol. This ship sails itself.

Thanks so much for asking, I love talking about my WIPs!! I'll give you a quick summary of each one 💜

"December Rain" is the most-complete fic on the list. It's Singapore/Malaysia set in the 1920s, originally meant for a Historical Hetalia Zine, but I had to pull out for mental health and work-related issues. Now that I'm done Grey Seaside, this one is my #1 priority. I hope I can do it justice!

"That Way Madness Lies" is different from anything else I've written. It's essentially a FrUK overdose nightmare, where one party is frozen to the bed and their partner is the sleep paralysis demon whispering some fucked up shit in their ear. It's an experimental fic that's part horror, part abstract dream, full of creepy imagery, doubt, fear, and introspection. Kinda inspired by a number of complicated feelings I had in college. Not to get too specific, but I was in a very dark place at that point, struggling through art school and jumping in and out of a number of unhealthy relationships. The fic has been half-finished for a long while, because I have to be in a good headspace to write it, but I do WANT to finish it, even though it's very self-indulgent and rooted more in my own experiences than how I view the pairing. (Who knows? By the time it's done, I might change it from FrUK to a different couple altogether... I'll have to wait and see.)

The last one, "Tremor of the Heart" is just an outline. But it centers around Canada after he gets dumped by Netherlands sometime in the 1980's or 90's, and America shows up on his doorstep in Ottawa to try and cheer him up. The title will probably change because the longer I write, the less sad it becomes, haha.

honestlyyyy!!! i find the same with the tumblr tag! i’m sure they’re like top 5 hetalia ships overall, but their tags on every website are growing cobwebs 😭 so many aus work so well for them — i have been dying to read some cardverse fruk, or a hanahaki au, or honestly just any type of au!! but it seems like fruk just hasnt been used to it’s full advantage, and kinda forgotten about.

I think there will probably be more fruk (it might be a bit sparse because, like you say, I do love scotfra ajhsjshjs) like I love myself a big, burly Scotsman but also sometimes you’re in the mood for some little, twinkish Colin Firth ass men, you know?

Oh the drama…but more importantly the angst 😩 I do think fruk is a good ship for making Alasdair sad, like he’s too shy/stubborn to ever ask Francis out so he just sits on the sidelines and watches pathetically as Francis and Arthur date (maybe they’re in love or maybe Francis is evil and he’s just using Arthur to make Alasdair jealous - very sexy set of circumstances in my opinion as it leads to more angst ajhsjshjs)

My favourite fruk dynamic however is like “we used to date but now we’re frenemies (read: would die for each other)”

I did read a fic once where Francis was dating Alasdair, and Arthur was just the little brother with a puppy dog crush on Francis and Francis was kinda like aww ur cute 🥰 Alasdair and Francis fought a lot though and I think Arthur ended up sneakily breaking them up somehow by causing a really bad argument and them sneaking in to comfort Francis. I can’t remember how it ended 🤔 but I think Francis might have gone back to Alasdair and Arthur was sad lol i think that’s a cool au to play with tho. I suppose it depends on how old you see them, personally I like to think of Arthur and Francis around the same age and Alasdair is a few years older (maybe like 4 or 5)

But both of them having a crush on Francis at the same time…clearly I’d make Francis choose Alasdair XD but I mean if Alasdair didn’t exist…or like omg if Alasdair died…and Francis started dating Arthur and they both kinda knew he was just a replacement but like Arthur’s been in love with Francis since forever…lol idk where that angst came from ajhsjshjs
