*emerges from lab, with messy hair, eyebags, and carrying a conspiracy board*
Tumblr media
We've been thinking about Frisk's personality the wrong way! They're not either merciful or murderous, or flirty or childish. They're all of them at once. Their personality is one of possibly. They aren't one individual option, but choice itself.
They represent something we don't consider a part of their personality as a human, and that's something that makes them *so* human. Because humans aren't a set of choices, but all of those choices combined, and the drive and possibly to make any of them at any given moment.
They're not a blank slate or something you project yourself onto. They're their own character, you just help them choose.
The choices are always there, Frisk always has them. The choices are not ours, they're theirs.
The Frisk who flirts with every monster, being silly and becoming friends with them? That's Frisk.
The Frisk that's pissed off at everyone but still wants to be friends? That's Frisk.
The goody two shoes who's as nice as possible? That's Frisk.
The Frisk that does what is necessary to achieve the best ending? Frisk.
And the Frisk who kills off everyone, just to see what happens? Still Frisk.
They only allow the player to choose between a very specific set of actions. Fight, Act, Item, Mercy. And the ACTS change from monster to monster, only a few they seem really fond of staying the same.
Tumblr media
As expected from a kid, they seem to be driven by curiosity. They want to know as much as possible about a given Monster. Conversations- there's quite the extensive set of options when calling someone. You don't have to give them any input for what to say if they choose to call anyone. Simply calling is enough.
It's implied they made quite a dirty joke if they're told to flirt with Toriel after calling her mom. Because believe it or not, kids sometimes know about weird topics without engaging in them.
Even their expression could be used as evidence: -_- is now they look- their eyes closed, they're allowing you to guide them.
Despite how people portray them, they're not a silent protagonist, they're not speechless. They're actually quite talkative.
It's like they recognize that you want to play the game, and that you can only do that by giving them choices. And they allow you to give them choices. But only those specific ones.
It's like they're saying "you can play, but you gotta play by my rules"
Not to mention the circumstances that have to happen for you to know their name.
Because despite all these options, the kid does have a preference. They want to be friends with everyone. Or at least, they want everyone to be as happy as they can make them. That's why, only once you manage to help them free everyone, you get to learn that they're called Frisk.
"You're not really [Player Name], are you?"
That? That's Asriel, not just acknowledging that Frisk is not his childhood friend and kindered spirit. The one he misconstrued in order to relate to them, who wasn't perfect, but still trying their best. He knows Frisk not them.
No, he's acknowledging that, despite everything, despite the choices made in their regard, Frisk is happy. Someone chose for them, but they did it by their rules. Everyone is happy, just like they wanted. And Frisk did not change as a person.
You do not learn Frisk's name if you do not appease them.
Instead, they disown your choices, and you by refusing to let you know who they are, if you don't make them happy.
If you do the opposite of what they want you to do, you only get what you've been doing reflected back at you.
By someone bearing your name but not your face.
And they? [Your name]? Chara? ? They will remind you, even if Frisk is gone, that you were the one to drive them away.
"You didn't follow the rules, you betrayed the trust I gave you. You proved yourself unworthy of control. I won't even allow you the illusion of playing through me anymore."
You thought you could do what you want with them, but now, they're rejecting you.
Despite how little control they seem to have, Frisk is the one pulling the strings.
This is their game.

Hello I’m here again with another question lol, I’ve just noticed an interesting contradiction in flowey’s statements that I hoped to know your perspective on since they always made sense
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think this made me a bit taken back since (back than) he had the ability to save and load and memorise attack patterns or even the element of surprise, but this made me pause since now I’m questioning who “everyone” is.. (sorry if this has been asked before.)
I think I always read this as Flowey being unable to kill Asgore while the Human Souls were exposed for the taking, enabling him to become Omega Flowey. But there's definitely room for me to be wrong.
I'm with you, that I think it seems unlikely Flowey *couldn't* have killed Asgore if he tried long enough. Similarly, I think the line Flowey has about Sans causing him his share of resets doesn't mean he was never able to beat him in the end.
There's two possibilities here:
1. Flowey *could* beat strong characters, but maybe if they're too tough he just gets bored and moves on. He doesn't have Frisk's determination to see it through.
Considering he's really NOT a bad person and is just trying to make sense of his trauma and current situation, it's possible he's not actually curious or sadistic enough to keep working at it. If he were getting frustrated, he'd convince himself that it wouldn't be any different than Papyrus or Toriel or Undyne-- as novel as it might be for a few minutes, he still won't feel anything.
He also seems like the type of kid to rage-quit easily lol
So even if he says he "never" could've beaten him, he definitely could have, if he had just cared a little more.
There's also the fact he's trying to rub it in your face that you're an idiot who sucks, so he could just be embellishing your necessity.
2. He *did* beat the strong characters, but without the human souls as a reward (they remain locked away/unobtainable until you come along), there's not much reason to continue the timeline.
He sees the characters die, but then nothing changes for him. He's still bored and feels empty. The timeline is just a little worse, and he still doesn't have "the answer" to his pain.
Regardless of which one is the real case, eventually he "gives up" anyway. After messing with the timelines long enough and getting bored, he seems to have just stopped. In his final timeline, he's just hanging around as a nobody in the background (except, apparently, to encourage Papyrus), not hurting anyone, until you show up.
Personally, I could go either way because it doesn't change his characterization significantly to me.
If anything, the distinction would just make Asgore seem more powerful. Perhaps against you, a human, he feels more guilt and is more vulnerable than he might've been against Flowey. I don't think we get to see enough from Asgore for me to make that analysis though.

Okay, I've been in the dark about Color for waaaay too long, and I know you're the resident Color Sans enthusiast so if you have the time could you give me a summary of his au/what it's about?
I know the basic stuff like how he's absorbed the six human souls but that's literally it, I see him everywhere and I know next to nothing about him!! ; ;
Enlighten me? /silly/nf ofc
Alrighty, I think I can help here! I'll try my best to keep it briefish.
Color!sans originates from the AT (yes, alternate TIMELINE not AU) Othertale which was a series of animations that became a comic and then went on indefinite hiatus. I always use the wrong terminology 😞 but technically AU is incorrect here.
The directory for all of the animations and the start of the comics here
there's also this trailer which? I couldn't find on her channel for some reason. Not sure why it was deleted.
The animation "experiment" sorta is a prequel animation? taking place before the events of Othertale.
In the Judgment Hall frisk lands their final blow, EXCEPT Sans absorbs the 6 human souls tp prevent himself from dusting. With this new found power Sans (Color) he kills Frisk but a TRUE RESET is triggered which inadvertently sends Color to the void. In similar fashion to Gaster, Sans is wiped completely from the timeline and it starts over without him.
Undyne replaces Sans and she takes the place of Papyrus' sibling. They live their lives and grow up completely without him, effectively making them strangers now.
So Color is locked in with Gaster for a good chunk of time (at least a decade). It's unclear whether or not if Color would even recognize or know who Gaster is because the events of Othertale: before the hack take place after some time has already passed. We dunno LMAO. He's also got the name "Color" instead of Sans now. I don't think we ever learn what the name change came from either.
So, in Othertale: Before the Hack a new genocide run begins and based off a "feeling" Gaster gets he knows it's started. Gaster suggests they get out via Undyne by jogging her memory using the sentry stations as entry points to lead her to the void (but they can't be used as exits only entries). This process will be slow though, not a one and done deal. Uhh, also they needed to activate her "eye" which Color does via punching Undyne IN THE FACE. Funniest thing of all time.
Interesting things to note here: Color mentions here he can OPEN PORTALS out the void but apparently this would use so much of his power it could risk his life to do it. It's why Gaster suggests the other idea. It's also implied Color did something in the past that put his life at risk to get out of the void. Gaster says something along the lines of "You'd shatter and leave me to pick up the pieces. The last time I managed to salvage what was left of you. "
Also here's my favorite snapshot of Color ever v
Tumblr media
Now here's the part everyone knows about. Color getting out the void isn't canon to Color, but has been entertained by Youmna. Drawing art of him, Killer, The Abyss Team and the Epic Sanses interacting.
I skipped alot of stuff, but that's the gist. Sorry I rambled but this always happens......

Hey! You probably have already been asked this question- and I know you’ll probably never see this- but I’ve been thinking about this and curious about this lately, uh-
What are all the things killer went through during his time under the control of his frisk? Both cannon and head-cannon? I have a few head-cannons myself but am really curious what others think and what the cannon is!
It’s okay if not answered, am just a curious soul wondering about stuff-
Well, first, it wasn’t his Frisk he was under the control of—Frisk is actually hardly mentioned in Something New outside of the first few panels of the first page of the comics, and Killer saying he misses stabbing Frisk’s face when asked if he missed Frisk.
It was Chara, and the Player—basically one and the same in Something New, even if Chara the dead child potentially wants something more. All the Player ever really wants from Killer’s existence is something new, after all. Chara’s the one who wanted a partner in crime.
As for what happened between them, the fun part is—we don’t actually canonically know. We can make guesses based on the beginning, when Killer turned on them, and some things based on after they ended—how Killer still sees them and hears them and listens to them, how he feels watched by them constantly, as if they’re living inside him.
This tells me just how codependent their relationship was—and how scared and powerless Killer feels beneath them, even as he feels he needs them and that he still has to listen to them, even if he doesn’t want to—even as he struggles to realize that he doesn’t want to, because he wants what They want.
Even if he has a new “master” now in the form of Nightmare. It tells me that Chara’s wants and priorities and needs have always taken priority over anything and anyone else—especially Killer himself.
It’s like..how a baby doesn’t realize they are separate from their mother for the first few months of their life. Except Killer never truly realized that he is separate from them. Or that they are separate from him. He has internalized them, and in many ways, has become them. Something he struggles to make sense of.
Killer doesn’t know who he is or what he is, what he wants—if he wants anything at all. He doesn’t know what is or isn’t real—why he feels and behaves about certain things. Why everything both does and doesn’t feel familiar, and yet still he is always just separate.
Chara provided directions. They represent identity and direction and stability, certainty and structure. They scare him and hurt him and confuse him, and he hates them and fears them in equal measure, but no one has understood him like them. Not even himself.
I’m sure he also didn’t use to understand why he was ever scared of or disobedient of Chara before—if something ever triggered him into Stage 1, such as his own hesitance to kill Papyrus. Stage 2 may not have held the same emotional ties to Chara that Stage 1 does or hold the same anger and hate that Stage 3 does or the fear and reverence that Stage 4 does; but it wasn’t like he knew anything else besides them with certainty.
He knew he needed them. He didn’t know fully why, he just did. He could try to explain why but it’d be through the lens of what Chara taught him: control or be controlled, the most Determined decide fate, etc.
He holds on these contradictory views and experiences with Chara, likely dissociated and compartmented into his four Stages, but all just as true as eachother.
They made him. He exists because of the Player, sure, but Chara basically raised him. The Player speaks through them, they act on our behalf. There may even be no difference between Chara and God in his mind in Stage 4.
And try as he might, he can’t pry their pieces out of him.
All of it suggests heavy levels of manipulation, conditioning, gaslighting, dependency, and abuse to me. The specifics aren’t said or shown or even confirmed, but the fact that out of all his shadowy hallucinations of everyone he’s killed—living in his head—Chara’s the only one who’s more than a shadow and has sway over his choices seems to say something about their relationship.
Anyway, a lot of things could’ve likely happened when he was with Chara. Who knows how long they were together—Killer likely doesn’t know. How many timelines they went through together.
I do like to think that there was an entire timeline where Killer and Chara overthrew Asgore and ruled the Underground themselves at some point, because Princess Killer and Killer being conditioned through royal etiquette is an idea I love. I also think he was conditioned through childhood nursery rhymes, games, gestures, and sayings that are loaded with specific meanings that only Chara and Killer themselves know. Their own little language.
I think Chara gave Killer Asriel’s golden locket, to basically make Killer into the better “Asriel.” I do believe he was often threatened and kept in line through the use of the Reset—something Killer, back when he was Sans, hated and dreaded more anything.
(And by that I mean, he was either threatened with a Reset if he didn’t do something, or forced to repeat something over and over through the use of the Reset until he either did it perfectly or without thinking or hesitation. Until any attempts to resist results in an instinctive overriding of his own will via the triggering of Stage 4.)
That original sentiment was likely twisted over time, but still present in some shape or form—such as the need for something new, and to not constantly do the same thing over and over again, even as paradoxically, Killer has a tendency to do the same things over and over again thanks to the role of the Resets in his conditioning.
I’ve made a post before about like, Chara and Killer making the killing into something like hunting games, can’t find it. But I like to think there was a punishment-reward system that Killer internalized as well, especially in Stage 4.
I’ve mentioned before how i hc that Killer and Chara had a pinky swear system that could never be broken under threat of grievous harm to whichever party breaks the promise—and as a result any promises made via pinky swears with Killer from absolutely anyone is basically the same as signing away your right to live if you ever break it.
I’ve mentioned how I think the one death Killer has never experienced before is buttercup poisoning. But basically, anything you think could happen has possibly happened, except ya know..weird stuff.
Reality is a game, and the Underground is their sandbox.

Don't Forget
[Sans x Female!Reader]
37: Man, Fuck them Kids (and Fuck You, Too)
 Content Warnings for this Chapter:
- Internal debate regarding Morality - Internal debate about killing a child (Frisk/Chara)
It’s not super jarring in my personal opinion, but it might be for some readers. Please proceed with caution. I hope you can enjoy this chapter.
♪────✿(✧◕ᴗ◕✧)✿────♪
You frog blink your ass awake, staring up at the ceiling with irritation and slight amusement. You remember your conversation with Gaster almost perfectly, and the ending especially sticks out to you.
How dare he force you out of your sleep when you were in the middle of panicking about the ins and outs of time travel and dimensional jumping.
You tilt your head back as far as you can so you can read the small clock on the far wall. Ughhh, you can barely read it, you think it’s about close to 10 am. Sans is still on you comfortably, his smile still on his face even as he sleeps.
He’s so cute, you’re going to morb.
You bring a hand up to his face, rubbing small, gentle circles against his cheek. Sans stirs lightly, and his quiet snoring stops. He groans and snuggles closer to you, incoherent words mumbling under his breath. Being this close to him, you can feel the vibrations of his talking via magic.
“Saaaans,” You sing his name softly, “Come on, wake up.”
“hngmph…” Sans turns his head downward, burying his face in your chest, “jus’ a few m’re mins…”
It should be a crime to make Sans get up so early, how dare you.
You sigh dramatically in false defeat, stroking your hand up and down his spine. Sans shivers against you, but does nothing to stop you. Perhaps it feels nice.
“Fine, fine. Guess you don’t wanna know about the dream I had about your dad.”
Diabolical fucking work. But it gets the job done.
Sans jolts up, almost straddling you. He crawls off you erratically, trying to free himself from the blankets like he wasn’t snug as a bug literally five seconds ago. You miss his presence already, but alas, such is the way of the worm.
In a fit, he shoves the blanket onto the floor to free himself fully. With a sigh, you sit up as well and tilt your head side to side to try cracking it. Ugh, the cuddling was nice, but the couch always gave you some kind of kink to work out in the morning.
“[y/n].”
“Mm? Yeah?”
“what did you–were you serious?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah. I had a dream about your dad.”
“wai–you–i-i think i’m still half asleep,” Sans rubs his sockets, “my dad? you mean gaster? what about him–what kind of dream was it?”
You know what? You guess that’s fair, you don’t know anyone who would be happy to hear that someone is dreaming about their dad.
You wave a dismissive hand, “Nah, it’s okay. We can go back to sleep. I will say though, I know where you get your good looks and charm from.”
“i will straight up fight my dad. do not test me.”
Dang.
“Okay, okay,” You straight up and pat the space next to you so Sans can get closer, “No need to go that far.”
Sans sighs out of his nose, leaning over the couch to grab the blanket. He scooches closer to you and throws the cover over you both. If you’re going to spill the tea, you best believe he wants you to do it all cozy.
You tell him almost everything you can remember (of course, not including the things Gaster asked you to keep secret), keeping your volume low since you’re almost certain the others are still asleep.
Suffice to say, Sans looks pretty unsatisfied.
You did make sure NOT to include how half of this is because Gaster wants Sans to make friends. So in that perspective, Gaster is making you all be non-secretive for probably suspicious reasons. You’re lucky that during this, Sans isn’t paying attention to look at you. Otherwise, he would be seeing how you’re lying by omission.
Sans rubs the side of his skull, “okay… so we do need to tell this papyrus, then…”
“Yeah, guess so. Gaster thinks it will be fine because of…” Shit, you’re not articulate enough this early in the morning. “…emo reasons.”
Sans snorts, “what do you mean by that?”
“Well… Gaster said something about how this Papyrus is still emo in the way you were before meeting me.” You grimace, “He didn’t say it like that, but you know what I mean. And… Well, do you remember if you wanted anything to do with the DJ before I came along?”
Your favorite skeleton winces, “uh… no, not really. i’ll admit that i pretty much gave up going back a long time ago. when i met you–and i mean officially met you–that’s when things started to change for me. thinking back on it now, i realize that i didn’t mind that the dj was working all of the sudden.”
“What do you mean you gave up going back a long time ago? Go back to where?”
To your utter surprise, Sans tells you the truth: “back when gaster was still alive.”
“At least now we have a chance to bring him back. Piece by piece, but we’ll get it done,” You smile weakly.
Sans nods, blindly grabbing your hand to squeeze it softly. You’re not wearing his gloves anymore, obviously, but you kind of miss them now. Sans’ hands feel fine, you’re just getting cold without them.
“okay,” He nods suddenly, “i understand what gaster meant. and he said this is kinda what we gotta do for the future right? like, there are definitely other au’s we gotta go to after this?”
You hum affirmatively.
“right. we’ll uh, we’ll talk more about his weird goals when we’re back home. for now, we’ll just focus on finding the fragment that’s in this au.”
“Sounds good.”
You smile knowingly, “Sooo… wanna go back to sleep?”
“fuck. yes.”
Sans grins and tackles you hard enough to knock you over. You laugh at his language since he’s not the type to swear that causally, it’s fun whenever he does. Sans drags the blanket further up his body to cover you both more.
“way too early to be regretting our life choices. we should sleep it off.”
You snort, “Who said I’m regretting anything?”
“you mean you aren’t regretting being up this early?”
“Well, let’s not get too hasty.”
Sans snickers, “shhh, let’s just go to sleep.”
“Alright, alright. Goodnight, baby boy.”
“pfft, g’night, sweetness.”
You perk up with a grin, “What was that?”
He groans, and you can feel his face heat up, “ugh, never mind. there goes my attempt.”
“No, no, no! That was so cute!”
“weren’t we supposed to go to sleep? all we ever do is just sit around and talk.”
“But you called me a cute nickname! I’ve heard of sweetheart before, but not sweetness.”
“i cannot see myself calling you that. it’s too new yorker. i had to improvise.”
“So you know what a New Yorker is?”
“…goodnight, [y/n].”
“Awe, not sweetness?”
“[y/n]!”
“Okay, okay! Goodnight, Sans.”
────
You don’t remember when you passed out, and you’re pretty sure you didn’t dream about anything, either. Isn’t that usually because you’re too tired to dream? Gaster must’ve really fucked you up.
Oh, shit! You forgot to tell Sans that his peepaw said hello!
Someone is shaking your shoulder gently, trying to rouse you from your slumber. You’re not totally okay with that, but you suppose you should wake up now.
You groggily open your eyes, refraining from frog blinking because you already did that joke. Sans is snuggled closely against you, face resting sideways on your titties. Whether they’re big or small, you can’t help but feel like that would always be a resting spot for him if given the chance.
He kinda real for that.
You look up to see who the fuck is the one waking you up. Sans is woken up by the motion of that, groggily groaning while moving his head to rest on the other cheek. In doing that, Sans sees who the intruder is as well.
It’s a smug Swap-Sans, grinning widely while wiggling his bone-brows up and down. He is leaning over the back of the couch, looking down at you and the other with his other hand on his cheek.
Speaking quietly, S-Sans says, “SORRY, I DON’T MEAN TO INTERRUPT YOUR CANOODLING (Sans groans in irritation.), BUT THE HUMAN CHILD IS HERE.”
“Ughhh, already?” You grumble, moving your arms above your head to stretch, “What time is it?”
“NEARLY NOON….”
Ughhh! You should probably get up then…
“Alright,” You squeak, “Get up, Sans.”
Your bone boy grumbles in protest but begrudgingly gets up anyway. S-Sans is snickering while moving away, giving you two the space to pull yourselves together. Again, Sans is chucking the blanket to the floor, crawling off of you with the grace of someone who’s never walked before. You have to help the poor guy because he can’t seem to function this early in the day.
You can hear S-Papyrus talking from the kitchen, though you don’t hear a response, almost like he’s having a one-sided conversation.
You get up from the couch and grab the blanket. You fold it up neatly as Sans slouches against the sofa, trying to wake up and definitely won’t fall asleep sitting up. You don’t know where to leave the folded blanket, so you just put it neatly on Sans.
He opens his eyes and winks at you, not doing anything to move it off him.
The voice in the kitchen lulls to a stop, then footsteps. You turn around to see S-Papyrus and–
You flinch back in shock, Sans narrows his eyes at the child that follows behind the tall skeleton.
It’s a small child, scrawny almost, and so…
Squishy.
This little human looks maybe about 10 or 11 years old. Neat, short brown hair that is slightly messy, and a light green shirt with a single yellow stripe going across the torso. The long sleeves look dirty, perhaps they were busy doing something else before showing up. Their dark brown pants are also dirty.
As for the face, their eyes are round and wide. The irises are deep red and can almost be seen as a vibrant brown, but you know better-they’re red eyes. Their cheeks are so round and squishy and rosy pink.
Were it not for the Undertale trauma, you would’ve fooled yourself into thinking this little kid, Chara, is an absolute sweet baby.
Wait, you shouldn’t think that way, it’s not fair. Sure, Chara might be a sussy bitch in the original universe, but in this one, they seem to be a sweet kid. Based on how casual S-Papyrus and S-Sans are treating them, you suppose Chara is in the middle of a Pacifist Route.
You notice a thick notebook in Chara’s hand, as well as a beat-up pen. Their eyes flick between you and Sans. Bringing the notebook up, they quickly scribble something down on a page. You wait patiently, trying to school your expression so you’re not scaring them.
Chara clicks their pen and turns the notebook around, showing you what is written. The handwriting is messy and small:
*Hello, my name is Chara. It is nice to meet you.
You smile and step just a tad closer, “It’s nice to meet you, Chara. My name is [Y/n], and this-” You gesture to Sans with a teasing look, “-you can call him Other Sans.” Other Sans scoffs and rolls his eye-lights, but says nothing. Shame, looks like he’s getting tired of this joke.
Chara waves shyly at Sans. Even though he’s smiling, Sans hasn’t let up on the obvious distrusting look in his eyes. Chara stops looking at him and instead moves their gaze to you.
You bring your hands up and sign as you talk, “Would it be easier if we signed instead?”
Chara looks down sheepishly, scribbling down a response as quickly as they can.
*I can speak just fine, I just don’t want to. And I never learned that hand sign stuff…
Hmm… You wonder why not…
You don’t think this Chara can be that much older or younger than the Frisk in your universe. You wonder about their past (the role of Frisk, or in this case, Chara), and if there is a significant (and most likely sad) reason why they’ve never learned sign language.
“That’s okay,” You nod reassuringly, “I’ve heard some things about you, Chara–Chara? Chara? How do I pronounce it?”
*The first way you said it is right!
Fuck yeah, it was. You are the superior one!
“Awesome, I’m just so skilled like that!” Chara giggles practically soundlessly at your mocking confident tone. “I’ve heard some things about you. How you’re a kind little human befriending everyone.”
Ugh, you love kids. They remind you of your own siblings, especially the younger ones. You’re unsure if you’d ever want any of your own one day, probably not. But that doesn’t mean you’re incapable of showing a kid kindness.
People like Frisk, like this Chara, are tricky. You don’t know anything about this timeline, but you’re almost certain they’re not free of guilt from the No Mercy run or any kind of Neutral run.
Does that mean that they are undeserving of kindness or understanding when, right now, they are choosing to be a Pacifist? Are they undeserving of your gentleness when in a past life, they have been ruthless and merciless? How much can really be excused just because they are a child?
…Can you bring yourself to act cold towards a child? Can you? Without thinking of your soft-hearted brother, Noah? Without thinking of your baby-faced brother, Alejandro?
Can you really bring yourself to be the type of person who acts that way to a child, no matter who they are–No matter who they were? If this version of Chara, if the Pacifist version of Frisk, would ever seek your protection, would you be able to give your aid? Or would you be able to turn a cold shoulder?
You’re brought back to the present when Chara shakes the notebook in your face. You must’ve zoned out. You read the words out loud, knowing the question on the page would want to be heard by the others.
*Is it okay if we can talk in private?
Sans sits up instantly, “nuh uh, not gonna happen.”
Yikes, you should’ve seen that coming.
“Sans-”
“-look, i get that this whole thing is to test you for being a good human and all, but,” Sans can’t stop the nasty look he casts on Chara, “is it so wrong if i’m worried about you more?”
“It’s going to be fine, Sans,” You insist with an easy smile, “You forget I’m a tough cookie, and with all due respect, I’m probably stronger than a 10-year-old.”
S-Sans doesn’t distrust you, he doesn’t think you’ll hurt Chara at all. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t less worried. What if you two simply don’t get along? Chara sees this troubled expression on their Comic’s face.
*It’s going to be ok! Trust me, I can handle it.
You cast a peak at the note, reading it out loud to the others. Chara doesn’t seem to mind that, in fact, they even move it so you can read it more easily.
“I can handle it,” are they talking about their power to Save and Reset if need be? You think Sans and S-Papyrus are taking this into consideration as well. After a moment of silence, you guys all come to a consensus.
“okay,” S-Papyrus nods, “you humans better play nice, you hear?”
Chara nods eagerly, while you nod as well.
“Let’s go to the shed–eh, the Capture Zone,” You tell them, “Out of every place, that’s got the most privacy. Is that okay with you, Chara?”
They nod again, taking the lead to take you both to the shed. Sans watches you leave with concern.
He knows this Chara is different from the one in his universe, but that is not enough to rid him of his anxiety about leaving you alone with them. Capable person or not, Sans still worries for you.

Second time in the shed, your life is just full of crazy shenanigans.
You didn’t bother going past the large gate since you didn’t want this kid to feel trapped with you. Both for pity reasons and because Chara is your chance to be labeled as an officially good human.
You two are sitting on the floor across from each other, with the kid nervously fiddling with the notebook.
“My full name is [Y/n] [L/n],” You properly say, “Do you have a last name?”
Chara shakes their head.
You know to drop it right there.
“So, how are you feeling? Are you okay?”
*I’m ok! I guess I’m just nervous. I haven’t spoken to another human an adult human in a long time.
You regard them with a gentle expression, “Grown-ups can be pretty scary, huh? But, that’s not really what I meant.”
*What did you mean then?
“I don’t know how long you’ve been here, but I can just imagine how tough this journey must’ve been for you. I heard that you’ve been making friends with everyone. I know that it’s been hard when they keep fighting you just because.”
Chara blinks owlishly, feeling a little flutter in their stomach. They’re so… They feel so touched that you even care. As far as they’re concerned, you’re just some grown-up who probably only cares about yourself, just like the others.
*I’m ok, promise! I was with Undyne and we watched anime together!
“That sounds like a lot of fun! What did you guys watch together?”
Chara lights up and spends a moment excitedly writing down the night they had with the nerdy scientist.
Should you bring up where you’re actually from? You’re not sure Sans would like that, but you’ve done a handful of things he hasn’t liked already regarding this topic, so what’s one more? You should wait after talking some more with Chara, then you’ll decide.
You talk a little more with Chara about their night with Undyne, not minding it. They’re relaxing the more they talk about it, more careless with their handwriting as their excitement gets the better of them.
“I’m glad you had a lot of fun! I’m happy Undyne has been really nice to you,” You pat their head, ruffling their hair playfully.
Chara laughs soundlessly (which is honestly impressive), then their shoulders slow down, and their expression shifts. Bitting their bottom lip, they write something down before showing you.
*I’ve been okay because of a power I have…
Ohhh, so they’re just telling you? But why? As far as you know, they wouldn’t outright tell someone this stuff, would they?
“Can you specify what you mean by that?” You ask.
Chara puts down the notebook on their lap. Their pale little hands (You don’t know if it’s weird to feel a sort of heartbreak for someone like Chara, but you do feel sorrow seeing how rough their hands are. A child’s hands shouldn’t be the ones of those who have met with hardships.) are held out towards you, palms facing upward.
There’s a nervous look on their face, like they’re going to back out-
But then something appears above their hands.
In flat white colors, a word floats above their hands. There isn’t a border around it, nor is it glowing. It’s almost anti-climatic were it not for the word it reads.
Reset
You think you’ve seen too much fanart and read too much fan-fiction, because you were honestly expecting more. Perhaps a Save button as well, maybe more flair with a border around the word like the battle menu.
But no.
Just like how it shows up in the game menu, there is a Reset button only in that classic Undertale font, white in color because Chara is not actively interacting with it.
You raise your hand up hesitantly, asking for permission with only a look. Surprisingly, Chara nods. You reach forward to touch the Reset button, though you are not surprised when you just phase through it.
It is not your power, it is not your privilege. Only Chara (and your Frisk) can use this power.
Chara lowers their hands to grab their notebook, but the button doesn’t go away, writing something down hastily.
*I can show you later if you like, but I can also Save at certain parts of the Underground. I can’t reload to other Save Files, I can only go back to my most recent Save. I can also Reset to the very beginning, but I don’t do that very much.
This is…
This is real. This is actually happening. You’ve always pushed it in the back of your mind since you never had to personally deal with it, but Resetting and Saving like it’s a casual Tuesday…
This power is in the hands of a fucking toddler.
You give Chara a cheeky look to mask your uneasy emotion. “I already know about that power. You’re talking about the Save checkpoints. At the very end, if you wanted to, you can make a True Reset, too.”
Chara widens their eyes, shoulders hunching up with stress and intensity. They reach for their pen but you speak first.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. I won’t tell anyone who doesn’t already know. That being the Sans I was sitting with, and I’m assuming Papyrus.” You pat their head robotically.
Chara purses their lips, doing a whole face blink at every pat.
*Are you like me?
You scrunch up your face and tilt your head side to side. “Mmn… Kind of. But, uh, that’s not what we’re here to talk about.”
*…are you not scared of me?
You frown, “No, why would I be scared? Are you going to hurt me?”
Frantically with scared eyes, Chara shakes their head aggressively.
That was perhaps the wrong thing to ask, you and Chara realize this almost immediately, silently together.
You understand that this role of the Anomaly, whoever Chara/Frisk is, they are fully capable of hurting you. Doing a Pacifist run now does not stop them from achieving this through violence. They can hurt someone enough to Spare them after. Or maybe they could give up right now and just start attacking everyone.
Chara seems so genuine right now, seems so kind and so willing to be good.
But there is a 50/50 chance that one timeline ago, they were a homicidal maniac.
There could’ve been a 50/50 chance that you showed up to this Au at the wrong time, and Chara could’ve been in the middle of a No Mercy run.
Sans said that Frisk hasn’t shown up yet in the current timeline you’re in. But what’s to say Frisk won’t appear later on? If they do, what then? What do you do? If Frisk were to show up committing a No Mercy run, how are you going to deal with it? Would you do anything about it at all? Can you bring yourself to… kill a child if it means protecting everyone else?
What would that make you, then?
Maybe Papyrus had similar thoughts when he was being killed by Frisk in a No Mercy or Neutral route.
You force a smile, “If you’re not going to hurt me, then we’ll be just fine, Chara.”
Chara nods, but there is some lingering tension anyway. The Reset button fades away to nothing as they flip to another page to write.
*Sans told me that you showed up yesterday with that look a like Sans.
You nod and they continue.
*Sans told me you could be a good human, but he wanted me to make sure because I’m also a human.
“And what’s the verdict?
They shrug sheepishly.
*I don’t really know yet. I just met you…
You laugh at that, “That’s true. First impressions can mean a lot but you shouldn’t judge someone without getting to know them first. If it means anything, me and my Sans will be leaving soon enough, so you don’t have to worry about us messing with your timeline here.”
Chara nods again, unsure of themselves. It’s kind of amusing. You assume they’re put off so much because they don’t know how to navigate a conversation where they are not the only one who knows what’s going on. S-Papyrus and Flowey (Oh God, wait. In this Au, Temmie takes that role instead, right?)–S-Papyrus and Temmie know too, but they never directly interfere just as Sans and Flowey do.
*Can I see your soul?
You freeze up as soon as your eyes register what the fuck you’re reading.
Despite whatever they might’ve done, Chara is still a kid and you highly doubt that Asgore (You need to remind yourself that in this Au, it is Asgore, not Toriel) would teach them about the intimacy of sharing your soul outside of battle.
“Can I ask you for what reason you want to see?” Your hesitation is evident in your tone.
*I’ve been… here for a while and I learned a lot about souls. I think if I can check your soul, I can maybe tell what your intentions are.
You run your hand down your face, “Aye, Chara. Look.” You didn’t think you’d have this talk so soon… “Looking at another person’s soul outside of battle is… something you should only do with someone you really trust. Like a family member, a best friend, or even someone you want to date. If I show you my soul…”
Chara widens their eyes, their already rosy cheeks darkening in color. You laugh earnestly as they frantically try to scribble out a response for you.
*I am so sorry! I didn’t know and I didn’t mean it like that! You don’t have to show me I’m sorry!
“I know, I know! It’s okay, I figured you didn’t know, it’s okay!” You smile with amusement, “I don’t know if it helps at all, but I was told that it’s gold.”
Chara narrows their eyes and tilts their head.
*Gold? Not yellow or orange?
You shrug your shoulders, “An older monster told me it was gold. I thought that if anyone would know better, it’d be them.”
*Oh then you must be good! Like that one saying: you must have a heart of gold!
…You doubt that’s the reason why your soul is gold, but you’ll go with it.
“I should let you know right now that my Sans and I will be going with Papyrus later to go searching around the forest. We lost something there that’s going to help us get back home. I’m sure you’ve realized that we’re not exactly from here.”
Chara nods, no use in bothering to deny it.
*How did you two get here?
“Sorry, kid, that’s not for me to share.”
Chara has their secrets, and you have yours. They understand this better than most and are willing to drop that. That doesn’t stop them from asking something else.
*Can I go with you guys?
You shake your head firmly, “Nope, sorry. I’m not sure my Sans would like that. Not to mention, it might not be safe for you, either.”
*I can defend and protect myself perfectly!
“I know that very well, you’re a strong noodle. Either way, it’s not your problem and it’s not for you to get involved.” You reason with an indifferent face, “Also, what if word gets out that you’re seen with another human? You gotta remember that I’m an adult; the monsters might be even worse towards me ‘cause they can barely handle not fighting you–a literal child.”
Chara puffs out their cheeks, grumbling silently in agreement. It’s not something they really considered before, but yeah, they barely get by even though they’re a little human. Bigger humans are objectively more scary–Alphys would be even less forgiving towards you if your existence in the Underground got spread around.
*Okay, fine. But! If you find what you’re looking for, you HAVE to say goodbye before you go!
Awe, you hope Frisk is this sweet should you ever meet them. You’re so curious about their other runs, but that’s not something you should actually ask about if you want to come off as a good human. You don’t know if Chara is that type of person, but you don’t want them to suddenly go back and say you’re a shit person last minute.
“Of course, wouldn’t dream of doing anything else,” You grunt while you stand up, “We should go now before the skeletons start fighting each other.”
Chara doesn’t get up just yet.
*Why would they fight each other?
You look off to the side, “Have you noticed if Papyrus has been more mean as of late?”
*Well… I don’t know. He’s been pulling a lot more pranks lately. But some of them are kind of…
You nod in understanding, “I get it. You know, that thing we’re looking for has been making the monster mean. Hopefully, when we get it under control, Papyrus is gonna be more nice like he was before.”
At that, Chara lights up and nods eagerly. You help them to their feet and dust off their pants and shirts for them. You can’t help it, you miss babying your brothers at any given opportunity to embarrass them.
You open the door and gesture for them to leave first out of courtesy. Sans is just waiting out there, standing menacingly with his eyes closed. Is he… Is he sleeping standing up? That’s pretty impressive.
You put your index finger to your mouth, motioning to Chara to keep quiet. They find this funny for a multitude of reasons but nods anyway and complies. You sneak a little closer and do the pro-gamer move.
“Pspspsps.”
Sans jerks and looks around, eyes locking onto Chara instantly. Instinctively, you move in front of them and shake your head. He laughs awkwardly and looks away, remembering where he is.
“woah, i just woke up from a bad dream,” Sans winks lazily, “nearly jumped out of my skin there.”
Chara is not appeased by the terrible pun at all. They scoot closer to you and nearly hide behind you as a shield.
Kekeke.
You jerk your head towards the house, “We got things settled. Let’s go in, yeah?”
He nods, expression relaxing just a fraction. “sounds good.”
Sans walks ahead first as you and Chara fall behind. They’re still walking close to you, probably too cautious to get closer to the spooky, scary, skeleton. Getting inside, S-Papyrus and S-Sans are together on the couch, discussing something or other like professionals. It doesn’t matter what the brothers were talking about, since they trail off the moment you three walk in.
S-Sans jumps up with the energy of the Sun while his younger brother struggles to get up for a moment there.
Too relatable.
“SO, HOW DID IT GO?” S-Sans goes right into asking.
You feel Chara writing because they’re still standing so close to you. You don’t mind it though, you actually find it pretty endearing.
*[Y/n] is a good egg. She’s like a cool big sister!
‘…Ueueueue.’
What the hell, that was so nice??? Did Chara really think that positively of you already, or are they just being nice for the sake of it? You put a hand on your chest, smiling down at the little shit.
S-Sans pumps his fists in the air, and even S-Papyrus looks relieved at the evaluation.
“YES, I KNEW IT!”
“that’s good news. what are you gonna do now, lil’ buddy?” S-Papyrus asks, “gonna go back with undyne?”
Chara purses their lips, thinking over it before writing.
*No, not really. [Y/n] is really cool. I was hoping if I can hang out with her…
UGH! You don’t think they’re being disingenuous, but they’re definitely turning up the cuteness factor in front of the others now.
“We can hang out later when we get back,” You tell them gently, “But right now, we-”
“-HAVE PROMISED ME TO HELP WITH MY PUZZLES,” S-Sans jumps in rather suddenly, “AND WE WILL BE DOING IT SOON, REMEMBER?”
…???
Sure…
Chara also has an impressed look considering you just told them what you were going to be doing. They do you a solid and let it go though, not wanting to make things more difficult.
*In that case, I’m gonna find Asriel and hang out with him for a while.
ASRIEL??
You and Sans look at each other simultaneously. And funnily enough, that’s when you both also remember that–Swap. The people and roles have been swapped. You can’t remember this one, unfortunately, who is Asriel swapped with again?
“sounds good, kid,” S-Papyrus nods at them, stuffing his hands in his hoodie, “if you need anything, you know our numbers.”
Chara nods and pats you on the leg. You look at them to see them smiling. They’re waving to you before they scurry away and leave the house.
Does your being a human really matter that much to how they treat you? Or is it because you’ve been decent enough and that alone brings them comfort? You don’t know if you’d be clingy to an adult if you were in their shoes, but to each their own, you suppose.
You’re alone with the skeletons in silence.
“So…” You put your hands on your hips, “Fixing puzzles is our cover story? So, you told them both, Sans?”
Sans hums in agreement, “yeah, i took what you said into consideration and told them while you were with chara. Our Papyrus knows about this stuff, i figured that this guy would, too.”
“Oh, yeahhh, huh?” You raise a brow at Swap-Sans, “You know, I really gotta come up with a nickname for you. It’ll be easier than “the other Sans” and “this Sans” and all that.”
S-Sans pouts the best he can, “BUT I’M THE ORIGINAL SANS! I-I WAS HERE FIRST.”
You look at Sans, “He has a point. Counter argument?”
Sans rolls his eye-lights, “none. i don’t mind being the one with the nickname, just anything other than ‘other sans.”
“I’ll call you Baby Blue, then!”
S-Papyrus and S-Sans start laughing while Sans reds up in embarrassment.
“why do you–is that–can’t you think of anything else??”
“I definitely could.”
“…”
“…”
“…well, then?”
“I said I could, not that I was going to.”
“whatever,” Poor Baby Blue gives up, “anyway. are we doing this, or what?”
S-Sans crosses his arms, looking at you, “ALPHYS TOLD ME TO STAY BACK, BUT… YOU KNOW, YOU WERE RIGHT. SHE’S NOT REALLY THE BOSS OF ME.”
You whistle poorly and look away, S-Papyrus giving you the side eye for tainting his brother’s honesty.
“AS MUCH AS I ENJOY THIS SILLY BANTER, I THINK WE SHOULD GET GOING NOW TO FIND THAT FRAGMENT. THE SOONER WE DO THIS, THE SOONER THE MONSTERS AFFECTED BY THIS CAN GO BACK TO NORMAL.”
Sans agrees with his counterpart, “yep, that’s what i said. you guys ready?”
Mumbling out agreements and whatnot, you all begin to head towards the door to leave. S-Papyrus and S-Sans begin talking with each other excitedly, wondering how this search will go down this time. You’re right behind them but Sans pulls you back before you go through the door.
“hey,” He whispers, “are you okay? after talking to the kid?”
You give him a reassuring look, “Yes, I’m okay. They were actually really sweet. You know, I’ve always liked kids. Sometimes. They can be such brats.”
He laughs as he ushers you through the door. “like you wouldn’t believe. y’know, pap had this rebel phase growing up.”
“Oh, no way! You gotta tell me all about that!” You put a hand on his chest.

hayyy!!! im the 1 who requested the frisk s/o hcs,and i loved them! so tysm :)).if u dont mind, could u do stan, kenny, clyde, bebe and heidi (all seperate!!!) with a chara reader? idrc if its platonic or romantic.
reader is always smiling (even when angry!!!),has an affinity towards knifes and sharp objects, likes chocolate and pies, somewhat sarcastic and kindaaa sadistic, alway isnt afraid to murder/injure anyone who harms their loved ones! also, maybe reader gives them(stan, kenny, etc) the bff/matching heart locket(s),like chara did with azzy,in canon?
i hope everything is okay, since its been awhile since ya last posted! remember to take a break, pal.and, remember, its raining somewhere ;)/ref.much love 🫶
Stan, Kenny, Clyde, Bebe, and Heidi with a chara! s/o🔪❤️
Note: I'm currently sick in my throat but I probably will feel better in a few days (Or not).
Warning: Knives and murder.
Gender: Neutral
Tumblr media
🩵 Stan Marsh 🗻
Tumblr media
Stan is both scared and amused by the fact you're so obsessed with sharp objects. You like knives....just make sure not to point those sharp things at Stan! That smile on your face makes it even creepy. Stan might have nightmares.
Stan likes chocolate too! If it's easter, you both will chow down on a lot of chocolate eggs! 🍫. He'll be a bit mad when you eat off the rest of the eggs and he only gets a few.
If someone was being an ass to you or Stan, you'd grab them by their collar and slice off their head. If you did that in front of Stan, you'd apologize for having to do that while he was there.
You'd probably come visit Stan and you're covered in blood! "Who's blood is that (Name)......?". You smile and reassure him that it's not yours.
You both will definitely have heart pockets with both of your pictures in them. So whenever you both can't be with each other at the moment, you have each other's pictures so you can feel like you both are right beside each other! 🩵🩵🩵🩵
🧡 Kenny Mccormick 🪦
Tumblr media
Opposite of Stan. Knives are sharp and dangerous you know! Kenny is worried for safety with your obsession with knives.
He might die trying to protect you stabbing yourself if you accidentally get careless. It was worth it :')
Loves chocolate too and will gladly eat them with you! (He eats half and gives the rest to Karen).
The time you probably killed someone in front of him is when he was being ambushed by a bunch of homeless hooligans in an alleyway when he was mysterion and you rushed in and cut them all down.
Kenny complained that he could've taken them all down on his own, but he's still grateful. Just be more careful okay?
Heart lockets? Absolutely yes.
He hangs his with your picture in it on his locker. Cartman teases him for it but he doesn't care, someone important (other than his sister) is in that locket and he ain't about to throw it away over a tease. 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
❤️ Clyde Donovan 🍫
Tumblr media
You would casually juggle a bunch of knives in your hands and Clyde gets anxious every time he thinks one of those knives is going to land into your head.
You're frightening the poor boy. Be more careful would ya? It doesn't matter if you're a professional knifist 😭😭😭
He secretly thinks it's kickass thought. Especially when you killed a random jackass who made fun of him for crying and called him a crybaby. You ain't about to let anyone get off the hook by insulting him for his sensitivity.
Clyde is neutral about liking chocolate. He doesn't mind if you eat it around him. But he will get annoyed if you hide a chocolate bar inside one of his tacos and he bites down and feels it.
Hear me out on this one. He cries every time (joyfully) whenever he sees your picture in his heart locket that he shares with you.
Somebody will have to plug up his mouth with a giant cork like they did with patrick in that one SpongeBob episode when he couldn't stop snoring. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
💛 Bebe Stevens 📱
Tumblr media
She held a gun before so she's cool with your weird obsession with knives. In fact you'd probably be a dangerous duo if anyone decided to fuck with you both. They'll regret it.
She's also neutral about chocolate as well but she doesn't mind having some if you want to share with her.
Bebe will kick anyone's ass if they mess with her. But the only time you ever killed someone for her is when they made her so sad that she ran to you for a hug and comfort. That asshole who made her cry was never seen again. =)
Anywhoooo. You'd comfort her while she ignored the blood you had on your knife, she obviously knew exactly what you did but was too busy needing your comfort to care.
You and her both have heart matching lockets. But she keeps hers hidden in her room because she doesn't feel like dealing with the other girls pestering her about it if they saw it. 💛💛💛💛
💚 Heidi Turner 🎄
Tumblr media
She's a worrywart like Kenny and Clyde. She's smart enough to know knives can be dangerous when they are not handled properly.
I headcanon that she probably has a fear of blood and probably might faint if she saw you kill someone in front of her. (You made sure to never kill someone when she is around again).
Getting the murderous stuff out of the way. She likes chocolate as much as you do! She'll even have a basket full of different kinds of chocolate flavors. Her personal favorite is the brown original one.
You both probably have a sugar rush after eating so much chocolate and start doing stupid shit and run around crazy. You guys trampled a homeless guy by stepping all over his face while chasing a woman with chocolate in her bag.
She wears her heart locket around her neck and even when she sleeps! The only time she takes it off is when she has to take a shower. 💚💚💚💚

How much did Ceroba freak out when Kanako first bitched out? Because she remembers her as a kind and caring individual, and now she's this
Also I think it'd be funny if it happened because Kanako found out that Clover broke the mask she made for Ceroba right off of her face. She's just like "They did WHAT? Ooooh, if I could ever see them..." (this happens, like, literally the day before Clover returns to the surface with Frisk and Flowey. Kanako then mistakenly believes that she can just wish anything into existence, since she is still a child or something. Also she then sort of forgets what she was gonna do since they're her sibling now (Ceroba (and Martlet, let's go lesbianism) did officially adopt Clover, right? I'm not just making this up on the fly?))
kanako was always kind of an asshole kid i think AHDJSK maybe not AS bad but she kinda chalks it up to. trauma and snakes. but she’s always had a bit of an attitude its just stronger now
KANAKO WOULD BE SOOO MAD AT CLOVER FOR BREAKING THE MASK like ok. yes she probably idolized them and ceroba would hide the mask breaking for a while. but once clover comes back and she starts resenting them for a bit and she finds out i think its like a breaking point for her. and she probably explodes at them about it. queue third act conflict where clover is upset and kanako is upset and ceroba is upset and no one really knows how to fix this
SHE FORGIVES THEM EVENTUALLY bc shes like. yeah my mom Did try to kill you. but you know what that means?? it means you HAVE to help me make a new one!! and thus clover and kanako build ceroba a new mask :]

Hi yes I would LOVE to hear you ramble thank you
EHEHHEHEHEH THANK YOU SO MUCH!
For context to anyone else reading, I’m going to be talking about the Papyrus - Genocide Route Confrontation comic I just made and posted!
(For anyone else waiting for an ask response! I haven’t forgotten! I’m very backed up! SORRY FOR ANSWERING OUT OF ORDER I JUST REALLY WANT TO RAMBLE)
Ramble under the cut!
OKAY SO I SUPPOSE I SHOULD START OFF WITH CONTEXT! I got the song “Control” by Halsey stuck in my head for Undertale. And! Sure, it would work great for a player controlled Frisk, but the main lines that REALLY got me were:
“And all the kids cried out ‘Please stop you’re scaring me’”
“I can’t help this awful energy”
“Goddamn right you should be scared of me.”
And OKAY. SO OKAY. In the song it’s a back and forth- but what if they were both Frisk? Just… this scared little kid, who doesn’t know any other way to save themself other than puffing up and making themself dangerous before anyone else.
They were hurt, so now they are GOING to hurt others. Because they’re terrified.
And Papyrus. PAPYRUS MY BELOVED. He’s so unbelievably brave and wonderful and I always have his geno route confrontation in the back of my head. I always see more art where he loses. Where he’s killed, and it’s not even a hiccup in Frisk/the Player’s run. Just a victim in the sadistic persons game.
But despite how infrequently I see art of him winning compared to being killed—how many runs does he actually stop? A lot.
This comic was my love letter to Papyrus and his character in game. Because he’s wonderful. He knew exactly what he was getting into but he did it anyway.
He had to have been terrified.
SO RAMBLE ABOUT COMIC DETAILS!
This was so fun to do, thematically! Typically for a comic, I try not to do straight on or straight sideways panels too much, because that’s not very dynamic. But it served a purpose here!
Every panel you see from the side is what’s actually happening. But then we get the POV panels—which are what Frisk and Papyrus are seeing. Here’s the first couple of pages for reference!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So! The sideways views are accurate. They’re both shaking. Papyrus is sweating… and, if you zoom in… Frisk is crying.
But then we get into the POV panels- the first one which is a more realistic skull that we are looking up to see. Because I’m sorry, and I love Papyrus(and sans), but an animated skeleton IRL (before I had the context of loving Undertale) would be TERRIFYING. And he’s so much taller than them!
The sweat and nervous expression is still there, but it’s smaller. Harder to see. Frisk isn’t seeing that through the snow and terror.
And this is just as biased in view as the next thing we see—what Papyrus sees when he looks at Frisk. Dust covered hands, gleaming red eyes. (But, if you zoom in… They’re still crying. But Papyrus isn’t really seeing that. And because he’s taller than them, and because of the thick snowstorm, he can’t really see their expression.)
So I had a lot of fun with the snowstorm and POVs. Drawing attention to what I want you to see.
Fun fact about a sobbing grimace- it sure looks a heck of a lot like a smile if you can’t see the eyes :)
I was relying on readers to be biased towards Papyrus on the first read through! Seeing what he does. Aka, not noticing just how terrified Frisk looks. (I recommend a reread to check out those cues tbh. It was very fun.)
And stars, I love Papyrus. He’s confronting this mass murderer, and they look fucking scary. He’s terrified, but he’s doing this anyway.
And then… the snow clears. And we see from Frisk and Papyrus’s perspective again.
Papyrus isn’t so scary. And… he’s scared, too.
And Papyrus sees Frisk. Really, truly, sees them. And realizes exactly what’s going on. If he hadn’t kneeled down to hug them, he wouldn’t have gotten that straight on expression of their face. Frisk wouldn’t have seen that he wasn’t so scary
He doesn’t try to dodge when they run at him. He has no way in hell of knowing that they won’t hurt him. But as they rush at him, he can’t see the same demon he did before. All he sees is a scared little kid who is trying to hurt other people before they’re hurt, too.
And then. And then, because Papyrus cares so much, and because Frisk is shaking and scared, and they don’t want to hurt him. They just want to not BE hurt.
He gives them a hug.
He doesn’t know if they’re going to drop the knife. But he does know this-
They need someone to not hurt them. To look at them and offer mercy and for it not to be a trick.
This little kid needs a gosh damn hug. And even if he dies because of it, Papyrus is going to give them that hug.
And Frisk doesn’t actually want to kill anyone. But… other than Toriel (who betrayed them!) this is the first kind touch they’ve had since they fell. And this is the first monster that didn’t try to hurt or kill them.
Stars I just fudging love them so much.
BUT YEAH, I PLAYED AROUND HEAVILY WITH POVs and the concept of the snowstorm blocking the view. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN.
one last bit of ramble! There are lyrics that go with the different panels! So LEMME JUST SHOW YOU THEM
Tumblr media
Im bigger than my body
Tumblr media
I'm colder than this home
Tumblr media
I'm meaner than my demons
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm bigger than these bones
Tumblr media
And all the kids cried out, "Please stop, you're scaring me"

I can't help this awful energy
Goddamn right, you should be scared of me
There’s a few others but there’s a 10 image limit on mobile, and these are the most important ones.
BUT YEAH. FUN TIMES!
The song lyrics line up with what Frisk is thinking and feeling! Which contrasts nicely against the actual comic, because the reader is mostly seeing what Papyrus is feeling/thinking.
THANKS FOR LETTING ME RAMBLE! …also if you’ve made it all the way through this long post, here, have a cookie: 🍪

Because I constantly get hate for WDYW Chapter 49,
(I get it, it's polarizing) allow me to like,,, explain why I went with the plot point? I don't really owe anyone an explanation, and literally fuck any of my haters, they're ants, but I think my readers/people who actually like my writing would like to know the lore behind my choices.
So, context, in chapter 49, Frisk is drugged into obedience by Muffet and Muffet, being the money hungry cunt that she is, sells Frisk's body on the black market. It's a really uncomfortable concept, and when it happened it caused a lot of readers to drop the fic or rant at me in the comments, talk shit about my fic in private forums behind my back, or even imply a bunch of horrible things about me as a person lmao.
So why did I decide to go with this plot?
Well, for one, it all stems from two books: The Hunger Games, Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins and the Empress by S.J Kincaid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In both of these books, there is a pivotal character who is drugged, manipulated and used for political gain by a dastardly authority figure. In The Empress, this plot point was ESPECIALLY devastating, because it completely changed and corrupted the character into a horrific shell of their old self to where they were actively antagonistic and irredeemable!
This plot device has intrigued and fascinated me ever since. Drugging a protagonist to make them wholly dependent on their abuser/villain, manipulating them, having them at rock bottom is, in my opinion, one of the worst things that can happen to a character... And seeing how the character can overcome it is the greatest triumph!
Ever since reading these books, this plot device has buzzed in the back of my mind and there is a part of me that always tries to recreate it, but I can never come close to perfecting it.
Either I always miss on the addiction part of the manipulation, or I can never commit truly to character corruption. Either way, the closest I've ever gotten to scratching this itch has been in WDYW part 3, but even then, I barely came close to getting it right.
My second reason for choosing the route; In WDYW, Frisk's whole arc is about having control over her own agency/autonomy/fate. What happens to her in Part 3 is the culmination of everything she's ran away from, fought against, and her greatest nightmare come to life. It was the lowest point I could bring her character, and make her face her past demons in a horrifically evil way. But my plan had obviously been that despite all of the torture she survives, that she not only survives but fucking WINS!
That was the whole point, but when I wrote it I was like,,, 17/18 😅, so there was definitely things I wasn't as graceful about.
With that said, would I change anything? Yes. If I could change anything I wrote about part 3, I would do a couple things:
1. Take out that obedience spell Muffet puts on Frisk. The reason I made that was because it was like a catch all spell to keep Frisk in Muffets clutches? But it was pretty OP and seemed like a hand wavey excuse to brush aside plot holes. I should've just simplified the spell to where she was simply tethered to Muffet's soul so Sans couldn't kill Muffet, or teleport Frisk away.
2. Frisk's "obedience" to Muffet should've been entirely addiction based, which would make the plot point of Frisk using determination to burn out her addiction in Part 4, and then eventually Determination becomes the addiction instead, (because overcoming addiction is really fucking hard actually and a constant struggle) a lot stronger.
3. I would probably be much more careful with my word choice in chapter 49. Some of it comes off as sexualization. Not my intention, but it was because I was writing in the creepy photographer's pov and he was objectifying her. In my head I was like, "surely people can read between the lines right???" (They can't. Only a select few fanfic readers have media literacy apparently)
So, TLDR, No chapter 49 was not some author's barely disguised fetish (that's honestly a really gross way to think about my writing and about me as a person) it was my genuine worst nightmare as a woman, and one of my favorite plot devices from two of my favorite books 😭 Please lay off me about chapter 49, and Part 3.
Last but not least... Some art is meant to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.

I'm gonna say it...the idea that Chara really hates killing monsters or is actively trying to get you to stop at the beginning still makes no sense and is just as out of character as saying they're the one making us kill everyone or that Chara's the one who proposes killing everyone first. It's like fanon that overcorrects and just jumps from one side to the other. I'll see "canon vs fanon" memes for Chara, and be like both of these are equally wrong, what is the defence squad even going on about anymore?
Even before they start taking an active interest in the murder run (which happens at the end of the ruins/beginning of snowdin), they're still...fine with it. They make creepy jokes sometimes and they constantly "alert" Frisk to monsters when they've already... "cleared out" the ruins. (I really think that in-universe is just Chara playing a prank).
Between that and some of my readings of the lines that remain the same on both routes, it almost feels like Chara is...just making fun of Frisk, a little. Poking them in the side and giving them a bit of grief over it (telling them that murder is cringe behaviour, if you will)...but not exactly complaining. Or doing anything about it all, really.
And yet ...I very much think that they could, because apart from them literally saying "since when you were in control", it seems that the choices and narration may somehow be linked together, such as Frisk seeing Flowey for the first time.
They won't get any narration when they first fall or when inspecting the flowers in the first room and consequently when Flowey tries to drag them into a battle, Frisk doesn't have any options yet and they don't have Chara's name on the screen (even the fake fight in Undyne's house has our options menu) and this happens once again in the Omega Flowey fight, Frisk's narration (mostly) disappears and so do their options, along with the memories of Chara that Frisk usually hears when they're dying.
And, of course, there are one or two times when the narrator seems to take direct control of Frisk, think of the "you aren't made of money" moment where you're suddenly stopped from giving too much money over to gyftrot (which then makes it really funny that the Narrator doesn't stop Frisk from killing people) or once when instead of saying "you" (Frisk) opened to the middle of a book, the narrator says "here's a random page" and opens up "randomly" to the page that shows humans in the worst light possible. "fearful of further human attacks..." and consider the difference between "you couldn't think of any conversation topics" vs "but there was nothing to say" one is Frisk's choice, the other is just the narrator's opinion. I don't think Frisk is the one who decides not to say anything then.
And then there's the fact that the Spare option disappears near the end of the murder run, and even before that, there weren't any acting options against Sans and Mettaton, and considering that there's a completely useless act option given in Mettaton's pacineutral fight with the narrator practically saying they have no idea what to do "burn/this is probably what you'll do if things continue in this manner", it makes sense that is at least giving suggestions for acting options, and if they can make options appear, why shouldn't they be able to make options disappear? And I am fairly sure it's supposed to work the same as Chara and Asriel's body sharing in which control is only dependent on how much willpower someone has and how much they want to move, not Level of Violence or anything else.
And to me, that's always been the main point of narrachara, to take it at face value when Chara boasts that they were always in control, that they could take over whenever they pleased, that the only reason Frisk has a choice at all is because they want to see the result, they are inordinately powerful...and inordinately apathetic. They willingly take a complete backseat just to see what a human would do if given the choice and to pretend that they deeply care what happens to their royal subjects feels antithetical to the very idea of narrator Chara. Narrachara is passive, yes, but they are passive by choice. Unwilling not unable to take control.
And then you have to remember that when the change comes, when Chara actively starts helping and almost pulling Frisk along the murder run is at the beginning of Snowdin...when they hear what became of Asriel. Given just how much they attack Asriel by the end and the general need to punish others for their sins, that could be it. Seeing Asriel's fall from grace and him acting as if he's above consequences is what truly gives Chara the motivation to fully destroy the world. Ironic, isn't it? That they destroy everything because they can't face the consequences of their actions.
I also think that given some of what Chara says in the demo handbook, that if they do have a secret opinion that they won't do anything about (and seemingly don't want to tell Frisk about), then I'm not sure it's wanting to SAVE the monsters. Maybe I could talk about it later but in the handbook, Chara tells you that LV just means LOVE and EXP just stands for Ex. Points. They tell you that statistics determine everything you are and that you're basically nothing without them. Chara seems almost averse to telling Frisk that the monsters will die if you win by fighting, and instead always calls it "beat" and "defeat".
I know that two of those are most likely just a way to hide twists but this is Undertale and it's always been true here that a doylist explanation doesn't negate a watsonian one, right? And Ralsei has his own handbook where it both tells you about the mechanics and serves as a tiny window into his character so why can't it be the same here? It sorta seems like Chara...is almost trying to trick Frisk into killing things while not directly telling them to do so. At least Flowey's not a damn coward about his murderous intentions! There are two options here, I think, for what Chara might be trying to do.
One is given that Chara is implied to be Gaster’s assistant scientist in Deltarune and because they so often tend to call things "interesting” or “curious”, It's easy to imagine it as a kind of…test or experiment. They want to know what a human would do if given the choice, and whether a human will always do evil so they set up the fight and spare buttons as a secret test of character. But in this case, it makes sense that Chara also wants to prove themself right. That humanity is true evil like they always said, that Frisk will indeed kill everyone if given the opportunity (and no judgement) so they might have considered that telling Frisk what LOVE and EXP fully mean would be too much handholding or that it would unnecessarily skew the results. Chara gives the opportunity to do evil as a way to root out the wicked.
The second idea is…well, why would Chara know a war had started while they died? If they woke up, still hating humans, still wanting souls to break the barrier, it would make sense that the fastest way to get Frisk killed is for them to attack and be killed in self-defence. Flawless logic, I know. (Flawless logic for a child desensitized to violence. We know their solution to the last problem was murder…why not this one? I doubt Chara would have wanted Frisk to kill everyone, just enough to get attacked in retaliation, plus it's not like a few froggits are important in the grand scheme, right?). In this case, you can see Chara’s wishy-washyness as possibly them not wanting to admit that this is what they're doing (the same kind of cowardliness that stops them killing anything themself until almost the very end of the geno run despite actively encouraging and profiting off Frisk's murders) and thinking that it wouldn't take much of anything at all to convince a human to kill, after all, violence is in their nature, isn't it? In this case, them acting non-judgemental and trying to give Frisk the choice to do anything (while withholding some important information) is not a test, but a trap. Sometimes demons give an opportunity to sin, simply because they want to see the sinner suffer for it.

Undertale Yellow and the Player
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(secret fun value flowey dialogue)
uty is way less meta than undertale itself. it's really easy to brush over the player because of this. however, the player undeniably plays a large role in this game... and i find that role larger than most people consider.
the player obviously controls clover, but it's a bit different than in undertale. clover can make their own choices. they shoot in the overworld without prompting in vengeance. they never reject martlet's final offer in neutral. they always give up their soul in true mercy. the player can't control them there. chara and frisk make their own major choices in the murder route, too, but that's not until the final boss, while clover starts going on their own way earlier and way more overtly.
take martlet in vengeance, letting her go of their own accord. or take the conversation with red, which aligns with what i said in an absolutely hilarious way to me. clover Will commit this social blunder you have No Control
Tumblr media
in times when the player does choose what they say or do, it's never out of character. this is different than in undertale. unlike frisk and chara, clover's personality will visibly adapt to what you choose- sparing everyone will make them believe monsterkind deserves happiness, killing everyone makes them believe monsterkind is evil.
(yes there's a few hints and a lot of speculation about frisk+chara's character, but all of that stuff is vague compared to clover's overt motives. especially that bit about clover being more evil in murder route b/c of player: i fully believe chara is the same way but it is way less clear if they agree with the mercy route when the player does it than clover, who dies for it.)
but your choices don't always match up with theirs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
clover doesn't know this. clover would have no reason to know this. but the player knows this, and they answer pretty easily. this is a pretty obvious red flag that Hey! There's something else controlling clover!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the game LITERALLY POINTS OUT that clover can't see martlet's puzzle!!!!!!!!!!!! like the writing is DRAWING ATTENTION TO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but we're so subtle, flowey barely registers us (see flowey fun value). in fact- the player hasn't been here the whole time. we don't show up until a later run where flowey's already been manipulating clover for some time. choosing to live with toriel, dying in waterfall and hotland, that's clover. and somehow, when this otherworldly entity takes over the body of someone flowey's been manipulating and controlling for untold resets... he doesn't notice. he doesn't know.
...does clover know?
if anyone would know, it'd be clover. (i mean besides ice bullets guy in one of the mo credits cutscenes cause they definitely know. just look at that face.)
Tumblr media
they never seem to call attention to the fact they're possessed. but they never call attention to the flower that's bending time for them, either, so does that even mean anything?
i don't know if clover knows. and i don't think i have enough to speculate.
except ive been doing nonsense speculation the whole time! basing the existence of a player on flowey's secret lines? fine. basing it on the trivia monster in the mines? yeah that is kind of a stretch!! what, do i think alphys can edit the code of undertale because of that line about her crush in the code? no!! because i have a brain!!!
so here's a better question.
how are we able to reset after vengeance?
it has been commonly assumed that the being with the most DT in the underground can reset, but only to the point where they gained the ability to reset. it's why frisk can't reset to before they fell, it's why flowey can't reset to before he woke up in the garden.
clover gains the ability to save on the rooftop. they have to, because that's when flowey loses his ability to save. but when they reset, they reset to the bed of golden flowers. so ermmm what
well, three possibilities:
the i-guess-nothing-contradicts-it: the being with control over saves actually resets to when they first enter the underground. for frisk it's falling down, for flowey it's when he was born and being asriel didn't count, and for clover it's the start of the game.
the it's-less-meta-than-undertale: getting to the end and then not being able to replay the game would suck. so the devs didnt wanna do that. so they Just Didnt.
3: you know who DOES gain the ability to save and load when clover first enters the underground??!?????! YOU
when you reset after vengeance youre going back to when you first could save and load!! "erm that isnt til meeting flowey-" if you quit the game when fighting froggit and open it again you have travelled back in time to the start. you load your save. it's you. hell that's actually even good proof because why would flowey place a save point at clover falling down and why would he load to there without clover prompting him! that's YOU loading!!!!!!!!!!
you control the save throughout the game, you reset after vengeance, and you can make flowey reset after pacifist. the two times you can't control the save are when flowey loses it in the neutral ending and when clover kills flowey in veng. yes, these are without player input, but listen! we already know clover makes their own choices in spite of the player, and flowey makes his own choice here too.
in conclusion. this non meta game can meta **bows & exits**

5/MAR/20XX
tori is out, and one of her kids is fresh on wheels. so, i've been put on monitoring duty for a while.
making my job that much easier, papyrus has eagerly agreed to help "watch" flowey and frisk.
...it's in quotes because what he's 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 doing is turning the backyard into a racetrack with frisk and undyne.
(it was mostly undyne's idea.)
as always, the kid will never outright say it, but he seems to like having those wheels.
"havin' fun with your newfound mobility, huh?"
"It's fun-"
"Functional. At best."
"breaks working fine?"
"This thing hasn't thrashed me yet."
"cool."
"you remember how to detach 'em?"
"Press these in."
"then?"
"Unlatch these, and lift myself out."
"Yeah, yeah. I remember. I'm not some dementia patient. You don't have to quiz me."
"maybe you are and you've forgotten."
"...That I'm a dementia patient??"
"yup."
"How could someone forget-"
".........."
"exactly."
"That's idiotic!"
"If I had dementia, I wouldn't be able to remember watching all your friends turn into DUST at my-"
"......."
"...Hands."
"......."
"..........."
"....gotta 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥 it to you, kid. you sure know how to change a mood quickly."
papyrus, undyne, and frisk called him over.
"FLOWERY! WE'RE DONE WITH THIS SECTION!!!"
"Come test it out!"
"It's time for SPEED!!!"
flowey gave me a look i couldn't quite decipher the feeling behind.
"go on. hang out with those same friends."
"......"
"even if nobody but you remembers what happened, you can still make it up to them by being better this time."
"be a good friend, alright?"
"......"
"..Or what? You'll kill me?"
he didn't like the face i gave him.
"...You wouldn't. Toriel would kill YOU. Papyrus would never forgive you. Asgore would have you-"
"you're right. i wouldn't."
"but you wouldn't do what you did again either."
"so, let's just forget the whole thing."
"What, gonna say it was dementia?"
"that'll work."
"now get a move on, petals."
i rolled him slightly backwards with my foot.
"you're holdin' up the fun."
he gave me a scowl.
"Flowey, are you scared or something?! Get over here already!!"
"I'm going, already! Don't you three have an OUNCE of patience between you?!"
frisk answered completely flatly,
"...No."
topping it with a slight smile.
"We wanna watch you FLY around this thing already, dude!!!!"
"ARE YOU READY, FLOWERY?"
flowey rolled onto the track, and papyrus started a countdown.

Okay so I’m revisiting Undertale after a long time and I just have to say this. This is a very very long post.
I don’t know if I should tag this? But uh. I guess I go a little in depth with Flowey and the major spoilers of Undertale, have a brush of a spoiler for In Stars and Time, and just major ramblings.
Flowey somewhat unsettles me.
And I don’t mean fear or scary enough that it distresses me, I mean truly unsettles me in an uncomfortable sense where I have to take a step back to analyze.
Like. Yes that’s the point, he is suppose to be an unsettling character. But my thing is, it is hard to unsettle me. You can ask my partner and anyone I know, I consume a lot of horror media. It is hard to unsettle me, or make me uncomfortable with certain things. And with games? Even harder. There has only been a couple of times where media has unsettled me that I can count only three instances of this.
The book Hell Followed with Us by Andrew Joseph White (had to unpack a lot of my religious trauma with that book. Good read though.)
Act 5 of In Stars and Time because I related a bit to much to Siff’s breakdown and the fact that you can’t stop it no matter how much you wanted too. You were powerless to do anything. You just have to sit and watch and follow.
And then of course. Flowey. The character himself.
What spurred this ramble Micha? Well. I’ll tell you.
We find out that before Frisk had fallen, Flowey had enough determination in that stupid little flower body to reset the timelines himself. Without the souls, he still had the powers of a god, but it was limited much like Frisk. He has reset hundreds, if not thousands of times. He says that he has tried anything and everything to change the variables. Maybe doing little things like planting ideas into monsters heads, or bigger things. (After all if anything goes wrong he can always reset.)
But nothing could change.
No matter what he did, it never mattered.
It never worked.
It would drive people insane.
And then Frisk shows up. And Flowey doesn’t have the power to reset anymore. Instead, this little kid with a red soul (and the same fashion sense of his dead sibling) shows up and destroys everything. And if you go with the pacifist route. Doesn’t head the lesson of kill or be killed.
And it start to work out for Frisk. It also works in Flowey’s favor too. We can imagine that Frisk is the first ever child to face Asgore for the first time since he started to collect human souls, and Frisk has the power to come back, Frisk even reminds Asgore how many times he has killed them. And Flowey watches as Frisk can either spare or kill Asgore in the final moments. But the players choice doesn’t matter.
Because Flowey was waiting for this opportunity. With the souls unguarded, he can use them. And of course, he can practically torture Frisk until he is ready to claim their soul. And even after all of that, you can choose to kill Flowey or grant him mercy. And he doesn’t understand if you do give him mercy. Because for him, it really is killed or be killed.
(I also have my own theory or analysis for the phone call and where Frisk went after the neutral ending, but that’s another post if anyone is interested in my thoughts.)
Anyways. After the phone call he pops up again, and here is where the unsettling part comes in.
He plants the idea in the Frisk/Player’s head that there is another way. That they didn’t truly save their friends, they didn’t truly save themselves.
And Flowey knows Frisk would try anything to get that happy ending.
Because we would want to find out what that happy ending looks like. Because it’s human nature to be curious and want something better.
He preys upon that and uses it to only serve as his own stepping stone. He isn’t even sure it will work. But he does that anyways. Because if your playing pacifist he sees the fact that Frisk took the time to befriend and spare all the monsters.
Flowey isn’t unsettling because he can change his face, wants to kill Frisk, and even attempted and succeeded multiple times.
It’s the fact that while he says he is soulless, that he can’t understand why he is being spared, he learned just enough to prey on that human nature to get what he ultimately wants.
That’s what ultimately unsettles me about him.
(If anyone has any questions about my thoughts or other theories just ask. I love rambling)
(Note. I edited it slightly to fit in more with the games because of some issues I had with misremembering events)

Merging Timelines Chapter Six
Upon arriving at the True Lab, Dust released Papyrus's arm, and he ran to the elevator, ignoring Papyrus's and Sans's questions on what he was doing. Dust closed the elevator doors, pushing the button to go up. Killer appeared in his vision a moment later, leaning against the left side of the elevator, fidgeting with a knife.
'so, it's about time this happened. i've been waiting for it.' Killer said, and Dust could feel his sight on him despite the void-like eye sockets. It was strange to feel like you're being watched by a hallucination that shared your point of view perception wise. 'it is pretty weird. just means i always have access to a mirror.'
"is there something you want?" Dust asked him in irritation.
'just wanted to say i'm cheering you on while you kill the brat.' Killer said, grinning at him, narrowing his eye sockets.
"i'm not." Dust said.
'what?' Killer asked in confusion, eye sockets going wide and grin vanishing, and Sans appeared on the right side of the elevator, 'why not?'
"why do you think? this whole situation gets worse each time the timeline is rewound. saves don't do anything because the timeline still flows forward, reloads and resets on the other hand, those aren't that simple. now, if this is a genocide route like i think it is, our best bet is to hide in the true lab, saving who we can and protecting them on the off chance something goes wrong. i don't know about you, but i don't feel like making the situation much worse than it needs to be, especially not by making them keep reloading after being killed." Dust explained.
'good point. it's way too dangerous and risky.' Sans said.
'yeah. good thinking, dustbunny.' Killer said.
"dustbunny?" Dust asked, fighting back a smirk at the pun, and Killer snickered at the reaction.
(Yes I had Dust get the Cinnamon Bunnies specifically to make that pun and nickname. No regrets =D Tell me if you saw it coming in the comments =) )
'eh, why not?' Killer asked, shrugging a bit with a slight grin on his face.
Dust rolled his eyelights a bit, and Sans was laughing a bit.
'why do i get the feeling this'll be the new normal?' Sans asked.
'probably because it will be.' Killer snickered.
"not right now, this is a serious situation, killer." Dust said, closing his eye sockets for a moment as he sighed. When he opened them again, he and Sans burst out in a fit of laughter.
Killer was standing there with his arms crossed, a smirk on his face as he made bunny ears and tail appear on himself. Sans was in hysterics, cyan and yellow tears in his eye sockets as he cried laughing, and Dust was close to the same.
'hop hop, motherfu-~'
The door to the elevator opened, Dust exiting, trying to breathe after laughing so hard, Sans could feel himself suffocating as Killer just hopped past Dust, the fluffy tail twitching behind him. Dust had to take a moment to try and compose himself, reminding himself of the situation at hand, and Killer made himself look normal again with a snap of his fingers. Dust had to wipe a purple tear from each eye socket after calming down.
"that... is the hardest i've laughed in a very long time..." Dust said, snickering.
'you're welcome!~' Killer said, pleased with himself.
Dust walked over to Alphys's computers, typing in a password and pushing some buttons, activation evacuation protocol, and had everyone come to The Lab. Dust had a plan in his mind, something he'd tried before in his timeline, and while he'd been successful, no matter how many times he'd saved everyone, the brat would always Reset. Luckily for him, there was more than one brat in the body, so if they Reset, it could be Frisk, Riley, or another pacifist, heck, even a neutral, but if they tried hurting Papyrus, he doubted Sans or even Killer would let that happen. Dust had a feeling Killer wasn't as detached as he pretended to be. He'd seen Killer's reaction to his memory, and he knew something had been there, he just wasn't sure what. What had happened to Killer? His soul was a target, but... something seemed off at the beginning of this Reset, if only for a minute.
"S-Sans?" Alphys asked, approaching him, "W-What's wrong?"
"there's a human killing monsters in the underground, and i'm trying to save as many monsters as possible." Dust explained, and Alphys's eyes widened in shock.
"Th-That's horrible! Thank you f-for doing this! Y-You're saving a-a lot of lives with th-this warning!" Alphys thanked him.
"i'm not done yet." Dust said, teleporting out, probably confusing Alphys as he did.
Dust arrived at Snowdin, putting up bone barricades over the usual paths the human took, helping monsters get out of Snowdin and into Waterfall, though he was noticing some were already missing. When asked what was going on, Dust simply told them it was a drill, and it was important to be as fast as possible. Dust put up a bone wall barricade behind everyone, and he teleported again to the entrance of Waterfall.
Dust was spreading the news as he went, telling everyone to go to Hotlands and to The Lab. He was checking through the smaller, more isolated areas of Waterfall, and he heard the ground crack open, and he saw Flowey pop out of the ground.
"Whatcha up to, Smiley Trashbag?" Flowey asked, and Dust sighed.
'i never realized it, but you act like flowey sometimes, killer.' Sans snickered, and Dust fought to keep any humor off of his expression.
'wh-what?! take that back!' Killer snapped, and Sans laughed.
"none of your business, weed." Dust replied, narrowing his eye sockets at him. He didn't have time for this.
"You seem different." Flowey observed, "What gives? You've been acting weird these last few Resets, and I wanna know why."
"it's none of your business." Dust said.
"Well, I'm making it my business. Last Reset you fought Mettaton, what even was that stuff coming out of your eye sockets anyways?" Flowey asked.
'dustyyy~ please, please let me talk with him~ pretty please with a cherry on top~' Killer asked, giving Dust puppy eyes. Dust just looked away. 'killjoy.'
"as i said, it's none of your business." Dust said.
"Fine, then at least answer this: Why are you evacuating everyone? You're actually involved in this." Flowey asked, tilting his head.
"because i don't want everyone dying." Dust said.
"You mean you don't want Papyrus dying, and the others are just for extra credit?~" Flowey asked, and Dust glared off to the side, "I see I'm right. Alright, now we're getting somewhere."
"are you really just here to piss me off?" Dust asked.
"No, but it's definitely a plus!" Flowey replied, laughing a bit, "I just wanted to see what was up with you. You're acting really weird, and I wanna know why. Besides, I figured I could get a front row seat to this new turn of events!"
'..... he's totally Killer.' Sans said.
'i am not! i'm way better than that stupid dandelion!' Killer disagreed, and Sans gave him a flat look.
'aww, don't talk bad about your own reflection, kills.' Sans snickered, and Killer pointed a knife at Sans, his target soul shining brightly.
'guys, can i deal with this without you two pissing each other off?' Dust asked.
'no.' Sans and Killer replied at the same time, and Dust sighed out loud.
"look, flowey, i'm really busy right now, can't we do this another time?" Dust asked as Sans and Killer surprisingly quieted down, instead just glaring at each other and muttering things that Dust wasn't paying attention to.
"Nope! Answers, Trashbag, or I'll go tell Papyrus it's safe to come out of the hole you put him in and see what happens when the kid sees him~" Flowey threatened.
"don't even think about it." Dust glared, eyelights turning red and cyan from anger, a few purple sparks coming from his left eyelight.
"That's new." Flowey observed with a slight chuckle.
"do that, and i assure you that i will make your life hell." Dust threatened.
Flowey grinned at him, "Then tell me what's going on. Things are changing around here, and you seem to be at the center of it. What gives?"
"i don't know, and i don't care." Dust replied, crossing his arms.
'i know! i know!' Killer pipped up, holding his right arm up and jumping up and down in the air. Dust ignored him.
"Well, how's about we find out?" Flowey asked.
"i don't have time for this, so no. now if you'll excuse me, asriel, i have things to do." Dust said, turning around and started walking, leaving Flowey sputtering and Sans in shock at the revelation of who Flowey is. Killer just seemed indifferent, as he probably knew too.
Flowey grabbed Dust's ankle with a vine, pulling him into the air as his face contorted so it looked like a Jack-O-Lantern, and he asked, "H o w  d o  y o u  k n o w  m y  n a m e?"
"i know lots of things, and if you want answers, you won't do anything to papyrus. if you do, i won't tell you anything out of pure spite." Dust said, and Flowey dropped him. Dust flipped around in the air and landed on his feet.
'and i thought i was the athletic one, heh.' Killer snickered.
"Fine, but answer one question and I'll leave you alone for now, as you're not very entertaining: How do you know who I am?" Flowey asked.
"i mean it's not hard to do some digging and find out." Dust shrugged.
"And you didn't reveal you knew this until just now?" Flowey asked, receiving a nod, "Interesting. I'm looking forward to the next Reset, Sans, I think we have a lot to discuss."
Flowey went back into the ground, and Dust rolled his eyelights, them turning into white dots again as he started walking, and he continued evacuating everyone. He got to Hotlands, and he teleported to the bunker in The True Lab, and Alphys jumped at his sudden appearance. Sans saw everyone else there, thankfully still including....
"BROTHER!" Papyrus greeted, waving, "I HEARD THERE WAS A DRILL! I HEARD IT WAS ALSO A RACE! THANKS TO YOU, I GOT FIRST PLACE GETTING HERE! NYEH HEH HEH HEH!"
Killer sighed a bit at the behavior, and he snapped his fingers, going into Sans's subconscious. Sans still didn't understand that about Killer.
"What's this about, Sans?" Undyne asked, walking over, "Alphys told me you triggered the drill."
"it's.... undyne, can we talk in private?" Dust asked.
"Why?" Undyne asked.
"it's..." Dust looked at Papyrus, who was humming happily.
"Serious? Got it." Undyne nodded, walking off.
"I WANT TO COME!" Papyrus piped up.
"sorry, bro, it's uh... it's a surprise thing, so umm..." Dust trailed off.
"NYEH? A SURPRISE? FOR WHAT PURPOSE?" Papyrus asked.
"i'll tell you later." Dust lied, and he followed after Undyne, looking down. He didn't miss Alphys's sympathetic and sad look from the corner of his vision.
Once they got enough distance from the others, Undyne turned to look at Dust, "So, what's really going on here, punk?"
"there's a human slaughtering whoever they can find in the underground for the lv, so i evacuated everyone. that way they can't become too powerful to defeat asgore, so he can kill them and take their soul himself to break the barrier." Dust said, though he was lying. There was no escaping this place, but he wouldn't break that news to the others. Sans was leaning against a wall behind Undyne, watching.
Undyne looked rightfully angry that someone was doing that, and asked, her eye narrowed, "How many casualties?"
"everyone in the ruins by the looks of it, and some snowdin residents. i got everyone out past that." Dust answered.
"Good work. Here I thought you were just some lazy sentry who only joined for your brother. Didn't think you had it in you." Undyne said, impressed.
"thanks. everyone here from the rest of hotland?" Dust asked.
"I think so, except for Muffet. Alphys doesn't wanna lock down the Underground without her in here." Undyne said.
"...... i'll be right back." Dust said, and he teleported out. Killer appeared next to him, and Sans was standing by the door into where Muffet was.
'can i do it? please?~' Killer begged, 'i've been craving some action, and you've been doing a bunch of boring pacifist bullcrap the whole timeline. i wanna have some fun this timeline!'
'i trust you less than i trust dust, and i don't think he trusts you either.' Sans said.
'why? why don't you trust little old me?~' Killer asked, grinning, right eye socket half closed.
'because you're a complete and utter psycho.' Sans deadpanned.
'he's got a point.' Dust agreed.
'.... what if i didn't hurt her that bad? a few scuffs and that's it.' Killer offered, 'please! i'm going stir crazy!'
Dust sighed, and nodded. Killer beamed at him.
'thanks, dusty!' Killer tackled him in a hug, subsequently pushing Dust out of control of Sans's body and putting himself in the figurative drivers seat, pulling his hood down.
Killer was practically vibrating with energy, bouncing on his feet with a massive grin on his face. Dust was questioning his decision and Sans was ready for damage control to be necessary. Killer practically skipped in, kicking the door open.
"Oh! Hello, deary!" Muffet greeted, pouring herself some tea.
"hey. heard you weren't coming for the drill?" Killer asked, tilting his head a bit and closing his right eye socket slightly.
"Hmm? Oh, no! Why, there's this child who stole from me, and I intend to... make them pay." Muffet said, "By the way, you seem different. You seem to have some pep in your step too."
"what can i say? i'm feeling energetic. with that said, the drill's mandatory, sooo...." Killer trailed off, pointing at the door behind him with his thumb.
"And yet they sent you to come get me." Muffet said.
"i sent myself. now come on, the brat can wait." Killer said.
"I'd rather not." Muffet said.
"that wasn't a request." Killer said, serious.
"Was that a threat?" Muffet asked, her eyes narrowing at him.
"what do you think?" Killer asked, eye sockets narrowing, and she shot webs at him, and he teleported out of the way.
She blinked in confusion before she received a flying kick to the face. The spiders around them all lunged at Killer, and he dodged, running out of the way, teleporting above Muffet, and when she went to use webbing on him, he teleported out of the way. Upon landing, several webs shot at him, and he backflipped over them, jumping to a wall as more shot where he landed. He jumped off the wall as spiders flew at him, and he skidded to a stop on the floor, using a bone shield to block more webs, teleporting away as more came at him from behind.
Muffet's pet emerged from the depths of the room, charging at him, biting and roaring. Killer dodged each attempt it made to bite him, making it crash into walls by evading it. He pierced it with a few bones before pinning it to a wall with more bones before finally bringing up a wall of bones around it, ensuring it would stay there and couldn't cause any further complications. It roared at him in rage, breaking free from the wall but it couldn't escape the bones.
He used the impact of an attack to propel himself up to a ledge, jumping off of it and onto a wall and used a sharp bone to cut long webs off at the top, and he grabbed the strands in bunches. From there, he jumped down next to Muffet, a grin on his face, right eye socket half closed, and he quickly ran around her. He was running faster than Dust and Sans even knew the body could go, alternating between teleportation and running, sliding and jumping over attacks that came at him. He pulled the strings taut upon reaching the end of the strands, and Muffet fell to the ground, struggling.
"How dare you?! Do you realize who you're-?!" Killer stuffed a spider donut in her mouth, and all that could be heard was furious muffled words, likely cursing him out. He grabbed some of the web, grinning in satisfaction as he took the time to drag her back to the True Lab, and Dust appeared in front of him.
'how....?' Dust started.
'i'm just that good. i'll give ya control back when i get back there.' Killer said.
'all you're doing is just pissing her off.' Sans pointed out, appearing next to Dust in the blink of an eye.
Killer just grinned at them, right eye socket closing half-way, and they both sighed in exasperation. The walk back wasn't too long, and Dust got control back at the door to The Lab, and he put his hood back up. He stepped inside, Killer still snickering in the depths of their subconscious, and he dragged Muffet to the elevator, going down it and heading to the bunker. Everyone looked over at him when the door opened, all surprised. Dust dropped her by Undyne after the door to the elevator closed, and he teleported to a couch, taking a much needed break.
'you ok?' Sans asked.
'yeah, killer just drained my stamina.' Dust replied, and Killer snickered darkly, appearing crouched in a frog-like position on one of the arms of the couch.
'might wanna rephrase that, dustbunny~' Killer snickered, and Dust glared daggers at him as Sans's jaw dropped a bit, eye sockets widening in shock.
'how long are you gonna act like this?' Dust asked.
'as long as i feel like it, dustaroo~' Killer replied.
'i'm going to stab you.' Dust threatened. He didn't know how, but he'd find a way.
'he's probably a masochist, that won't do much.' Sans sighed.
'damn...' Dust cursed.
Killer snickered, turning around to bend his back at an unnatural degree, holding himself up with an arm on the back of the couch, and he grinned at Dust, face upside down.
'you're going to fall.' Dust warned with no concern.
'only for you~' Killer grinned wider somehow, and Dust looked done with everything.
'stop doing that.' Dust said.
'nah, i'm good~' Killer replied.
'you're bored, aren't you?' Sans asked, walking to stand next to the couch, leaning against the back of it and looking at Killer.
'yup!' Killer replied, and in the blink of an eye, he was back to crouching on the arm of the couch, grinning at them, 'what do you guys wanna do?'
'i want to take a break and enjoy some peace and quiet,' Dust replied.
'boooooriiiiing!' Killer said, 'come on, can't we do something fun??'
'sleep?' Dust asked.
'come on, killer, let him sleep. you just got to fight muffet. he's done a lot and he's earned some rest.' Sans said.
Killer sighed, shoulders sagging, 'killjoys.'
Killer disappeared a moment later, and Sans sighed. 'he's usually more tolerable.'
'from what i've seen, that target means he's gonna be irritating.' Dust pointed out. 'he seemed different for a bit that last reset, when it was in the shape of a monster soul, and this morning before he went back to how he usually is. odds are his soul was briefly like ours before it went back to that target.'
'what do you think it means?' Sans asked.
Dust closed his eye sockets, 'it's killer's soul changing, it probably means something much bigger than we realize.'
Sans couldn't help but agree, and after a bit, Dust had fallen asleep. Sans didn't know how much time had passed before Dust was being shaken awake, Alphys looking at him with a guilty expression on her face as he opened his eye sockets. "S-Sans?" Alphys asked.
"what's up?" Dust asked.
"I... um... Papyrus, he.... he overheard me telling Undyne more about the human... He... he went out to go 'help by bringing them to Asgore'..." Alphys said.
Dust's eyelights lit up cyan and red in panic, a purple flame bursting to life in his left eye socket, and Alphys immediately looked afraid.
"what?! when did he leave?!" Dust asked, sitting up and looking at Alphys, desperate for answers.
"A... A few m-minutes ago..." Alphys replied, and Dust bolted to the camera system set up in the bunker, flipping through the cameras, shaking as he looked for any signs of Papyrus.
Sans appeared next to him, looking worried aswell, and Dust could feel shivers going down his spine. He hadn't felt this feeling in a very long time. Was this that concern that Sans was talking about that morning? Was this what it was? That magic freezing feeling that stabbed into your soul when someone you cared for was in danger or hurting? No... this was that and something else.... Dust vaguely remembered it being fear.... He didn't like it.
"S-Sans, please! Calm down!" Alphys begged of him.
Dust glared daggers into her soul before going back to searching, and he snapped, "i don't want to hear it. you could be getting my little brother killed, and it'd be on your head."
Alphys looked down in shame, Dust could see her in the reflection of the computer screen. Dust saw a flash of red by the entrance to Hotland, and he immediately turned the computer off and teleported close to where Papyrus was. His brother was nowhere in sight upon arrival, and Dust broke out in a run, trying to get to Papyrus as fast as he could. He ran as fast as he could, Determined to get there, to save him.... but he was too late.
He arrived just in time to see the brat walking past his dust. How had they dealt so much damage to him so fast? With their low LV, it shouldn't be possible, not unless they had a high desire to kill. He'd seen Undyne get killed with one hit before, when he'd watched the kid do Genocide Runs in his timeline. That had probably happened this time too.
"NO!!" Dust shouted, and in his rage, summoned a Gaster Blaster, it's size rivaling the size of Killer's, and it looked like Sans's regular Gaster Blasters, but the eyelights matched Dust's, and the edges seemed sharper. Dust blasted it at the kid, killing them in one hit.
RELOAD
Dust's eye sockets snapped open when Alphys woke him up, and he immediately teleported to the fight, and he didn't even hesitate to get hit by the blow that would've killed Papyrus. The brat looked at him in shock, and Dust felt the wound slash across his ribcage. He flung the murderous brat back into a wall, and he grabbed Papyrus's arm, teleporting them back to the bunker, shaking on his feet as he looked back at Papyrus, and he felt his HP was dangerously low, but it wouldn't kill him. The adrenaline was wearing off, and he was exhausted, and the room was spinning a little.
"BROTHER?" Papyrus asked, voice full of concern.
"you ok?..." Dust asked.
"I.... I AM OK, YES." Papyrus replied, still processing.
"good.." Dust said, sighing in relief.
"S-Sans?.." Alphys asked, looking at him with horror, and he saw several others looking at him with similar expressions.
That was one of the last things he perceived before he fell unconscious, Papyrus catching him as he fell, Alphys shouting "SANS!" as she ran over to him.

Note
me and my butter fingers, did i forget to turn on anon again??? (T_T)
talking about frisk/chara/the player in the context of stories and aus is really fun! i saw a really funny art post on twitter (i don't remember the link...) that depicts the player in three aus where the murder time trio comes from and they're friends. something new!player is a dedicated hacker, dusttale!player is a 100% achievements player, and horrortale!player is a loser/quitter. it's quite fun to see them interact with each other in "real life" not knowing that the games they play are actual universes/worlds out there, but then considering what the aus become... this kind of tone dissonance between the "real life world" and the aus is quite interesting. i don't see many people actually depict stories with the player as a core character/force/mechanism. i think a story from the player's (or multiple players') point-of-view would be very funny, in a dark humour kind of way.
~ crowshipping anon, on brainstorming mood
Yeah you did 👍. Im glad I caught it in time, I almost didn’t 😭.
The only fanfic I can think of involving a player was a Deltarune fanfic from Noelle’s POV. I don’t remember everything about it, but I do remember that Noelle realizes that Kris isn’t Kris, somehow gains the ability to Reset (I forget how), and had to face off against the player and save Kris without letting the player know. Something along those lines.
But honestly picturing Horrortale, Dustale, and Something New Player being friends is honestly amazing to me.
Like, Dustale is screaming and seething when Sans kills them, hooting and hollering whenever they manage to kill sans and earn more achievements.
Something New Player’s over here cooking up new ways to make the game more interesting, and I can imagine just how fascinated they were with Killer. Imagine all the potential prompts that could exist to interact with Killer? There definitely had to have been moments where they just kept clicking that “poke” and “examine” or “touch” button. Telling him to do the most strange things or depraved things, having him stand somewhere in stress positions for hours.
I like to imagine the Something New Player has a very perverted fondness towards killer, he’s their greatest creation, and they love talking about him to their friends at every chance. but maybe they always dog on smthn new player cuz of their edgy hacked oc.
And meanwhile horrortale player, the quitter they are, is probably only interested in undertale still because their friends keep yapping about these creepypasta-esque versions of the game lmao.
