Has to be my favorite Christmas present! Received this incredible fan art from @boredgirl-31 done by @atostrent.

It's absolutely gorgeous! The details on the masks and Charles looking so lost really brings the scene to life. Be sure to show the artist some love ❤️

“You’ll want to put this on first,” Lewis said smoothly, holding out an off-white masquerade mask, its edges lined with intricate silver detailing and even some music notes intertwined in the design. “I had it made for you.”

Charles blinked, his gaze flicking down to the mask in Lewis’ hand. It was elegant and subtle, but the sight of it sent a sudden jolt of nervousness through him.

A masquerade?

He hadn’t realized that was part of the evening’s theme, and he felt extremely underdressed for the occasion, mystery stain on his pants flashing in his mind. Neither of them had bothered to change after the charity gala, but Lewis always looked like he fit in, no matter what he was wearing in his effortlessly stylish clothes. Swallowing hard as he took the mask from Lewis, the cool fabric ties brushed against his fingertips.

His eyes drifted back to the party guests scattered across the expansive lawn, and for the first time, he noticed the masks. Each guest was adorned with one—some simple, others elaborate, ranging from delicate lace to extravagant designs with feathers and jewels. The realization hit him all at once, and his stomach tightened.

He hadn’t prepared for this.

then, he looks upward. this is a body language queue for thinking. when light hits the bottom curve of your irises as you look up, it causes a spike in mental awareness. just a little jolt of clarity, to aid recall. people do it instinctively and automatically.

so he looks up, and then he goes: ...and power. (expression becoming more fierce, more insistent, chin jutting, forward movement)

so: he wants fortune (by definition: a turn of good luck in the course of one's life) without even having to consider it, and he either thinks he wants power, or he thinks he's supposed to want power. either way, it's not his instinctual first thought or priority, but it matters to him that power is on the list.

result: darth maul wants things to go better for himself, for bad things to stop happening to him. sidious did everything he could to turn this man into a monster, into an utterly evil abomination like himself, and he failed on a fundamental level. maul doesn't want to rule the galaxy front and center like some kind of evil overlord, he doesn't want a baker's dozen syncophants torturing puppies in his throne room. naw, he just wants to be fortunate and happy. he has no idea how, and his own mind is a claptrap for bad ideas and failed methods, devoid of moral principles, but shit...

... he just wants to be happy.

Max makes Charles stop thinking, and things get carried away on the jet.

Charles would be the death of him.

The Monégasque shifted again, rocking his hips just enough to send a delicious surge of friction through Max’s groin. Tightening his jaw, Max refused to let the sound of approval that threatened to escape slip past his lips. 

It was infuriating—and intoxicating—how easily Charles could test his restraint without even realizing it.  

Max had dealt with plenty of challenging subs in his time, many of whom pushed boundaries just for the sake of it. Most weren’t worth the effort it took to tame them. But Charles? Charles was worth every ounce of patience, every carefully delivered reprimand, every mind-melting orgasm Max planned to wring from him.  

This was just like their dynamic on track, he decided. The only person who could push him to his limits was Charles, neither willing to give an inch of space or concede a corner. If Max wasn't careful or let his self-control slip, Charles would drive them both straight into the barrier.

It was a good thing Max never gave up his control.
