i haven't done much spirit work besides leaving offerings and asking for help. so i was wondering what can i do to get from here to the point where i can see and commune with spirit the way more accomplish witches talk about?
thanks in advance should you answer this.
Hi!
This is a big answer, because it mostly depends on where you're going.
Psychism isn't the same thing as spirit work. I've written on both topics (these links are to my masterposts) and I think there might be some stuff there that can help you regarding communication.
But the downfall of all of these online guides (mine, or anyone's) is that most of them are about how to develop a specific skill and I'm not too familiar with any on the topic of how to find and develop your natural strengths.
Oh, and also the important cousin to all these topics, a lot of witches exaggerate, change, or misleadingly talk about exactly how they "see and commune" with the spirit world. (Or, as @friend-crow would likely point out... some people really do just get on the internet and lie.)
If the point of your post is that you received spiritual input that helped you correctly manifest a spell, you might say "my fairy husband told me to use thyme, and it worked!", which conveys the point.
However, this can conceal the reality of what really occurred, which could be something more like, "over the past few days I kept feeling like he wanted offerings of French food, and then I kept hearing commercials and songs about time, and then I got a strong urge to listen to Simon and Garfunkel, and then I realized he meant thyme the herb, and when I cast the spell it felt really good and manifestation was strong, and I attribute these choices and successes to my fairy husband."
So I think it's wise to pick apart some of the assertions from "more accomplished witches," especially when they are talking about what was communicated and not how it was accomplished; and especially putting an asterisk next to any experiences which are likely being shared because they are exceptional and exciting.
But even if communication is very clear and strong, there is often a price to be paid (either up front or on credit), like:
You spend more than an hour a day practicing (I mean... a lot of practice; often being immersed in the spirit world)
You have been cursed with Second Sight and can't shut the spirits out
You regularly perform powerful rituals of communication
You've built your life to welcome and house the spirits long-term, and over the years have developed very strong abilities of communication
You have become bound to spirits or gods in some form or another, making you an Oracle, and all the consequences that come with that
Beyond becoming bound to/initiated under spirits for whom you operate as an oracle, also building relationships with gods of communication and witchcraft, or especially any entities that let you See and Hear Things.
You've developed, built, and practiced with tools and rituals that facilitate clear communication
There are a lot of paths you can take, is my point, and you're probably best off exploring any of them you feel most comfortable with. Oathing up isn't for everyone, for example. I vouch for an eclectic approach. Give lots of different things a try, and lamps will light themselves along the path of experience until the fog slowly fades from the map.
If you'd like a list of specifics, here you go. Don't say I didn't warn you. (The warning is, if you See and Hear Things, you are also Seeing and Hearing Things. You know?)
Work with Lunar powers, perhaps including relevant Moon deities, who are associated with divination, clear-sight, and spirits.
Hekate, I bet, probably works well to unlocking the roads to spirit work. I don't know her myself but it seems like a vibe.
Enchant a holey stone to assist you with spirit communication.
Perform regular rituals, perhaps on the full moon or cross-quarter days, to open channels of communication and strengthen your abilities.
Blend and enchant incenses and oils to facilitate spirit communication; use as needed.
Fuck around with doors and keys.
But before all of this, definitely get a guardian spirit of some sort, or at the very least like a guy who you can trust.

cherry | 𖦊 : five
Tumblr media
pairing: yandere! taehyung x f. reader, yandere! seokjin x f. reader
genre: fluff || smut || non-idol au || yandere
summary: you’re the cherry on top of everything. the little girl in front of your parents; the gooody two-shoes of your family, friends, and everyone who knows you. so when you’re staring at the two bright, red lines on the pregnancy test. you know you’re fucked, you really do. especially when there’s not only one man, but seven.
word count: +1.1k
tags/warnings: taehyung being helpless without reader, fun!, waste of good wine, lovie-dovie things, and that’s pretty much it!
notes: i love how taehyung is so cute with reader, it makes me happy. mr. kim seokjin made an appearance! ;)
tag list: @bananamochidaisy @mageprincess7 @darkuni63 @princess-sunshyn @redeyezbloodymouth @bxcndd @iloverubberduckiez-blog
༻❤︎︎ ★ ★ ❤︎︎༺
taehyung sits on the couch with yeon-tan laying on his lap. he has a bottle of wine in his hands, unopened and eyes tired. his heart is ringing loud in his ears and he feels like he's about to die. you're nowhere to be found. it's been two hours since he called you, warning you. but it's only him in the apartment, no sound or chatter of another person to accompany him. it forms a lump in his throat because if you don't come by morning, will you continue to see him? have him pay for your things? spend time with him? what about everything you guys did together. when the bell finally dings, taehyung rushes to the door, leaving the pomeranian along with the wine behind. he hugs you as soon as the door is opened. he can smell your perfume and a mix of something else. a smell that only happens when—your voice snaps him out of daze. "tae, have you been staying up for me?" there's a pinch of worry in your voice, it softly wavers. he nods his head that is still hidden in your chest. you finally manage to enter the apartment, you have him sit while you cook his favorite food as an apology. "do you think your gonna pass?" you don't think about the lie you told earlier, letting the words fly out, "pass? what are you talking about?" you smile at him, "i think you're sleepy." taehyung just looks at you, eyebrows raised and that's when it hits you. "i'm joking!" you stutter out, face burning up from the embarrassment.
luckily, yeon-tan barks at you, distracting the both of you with his high pitched barks and swigging tail. the two of you end up in each other's arms with tannie in the middle. you play around with taehyung's hair and the little dog's tail. an old, french cartoon is playing on the television. one that taehyung loves to watch with you because he knows how much it makes you laugh. he opens the wine with ease that the cork flies out so easily. the white shirt you're wearing gets stained with the dark red splashes along with the silk, white sheets. out of the corner of your eye, you see yeon-tan run out of the room as fast as he can. you're tackled onto the bed by taehyung softly. his bare chest sticking to your t-shirt, you laugh at his face that's spilling the red vino out of his lips that form a tight-lipped smile. your sight catches the name of the black bottle that is has taehyung's hand wrapped around it, the red top shining: Pétrus and Romanée Conti. your eyes widen at the name, having heard it's taste is great but the price to it was unbelievable. half the bottle is already empty, either leaked onto the fabrics of your clothes or taehyung's bare chest or drying up onto the comforters.
taehyung laughs at your squeals to escape as he kisses your face all over until he he places one last, deep kiss into your lips. his eyebrows moving up and down, "want a drink?" you nod at the suggestion. that night, you stay in taehyung's apartment with your and his body all sticky, drinking and enjoying each other's company. almost like lovers. his fluffy hair is messed up by all the goofing around, his nose is covered by lip stick that will always be yours. while your neck is covered in one single love bite, one that taehyung pecked with passion after he was done making it. you fall asleep before him, his arms pulling you closer to him: chest to chest and legs wrapped around each other's. taehyung can almost hear his heart burst. his eyes closing with his head near your face, slightly falling into your neck.
you left taehyung's apartment after a home-made breakfast with him and a quick laundry wash. the afternoon has already come into place and your coming back home after finishing classes at your college. but a man standing at your apartment door with black hair and a bag of your favorite fast food place has you frozen on your feet. a shock on your face when he finally turns around. "i'm not too late, am i?" you giggle as you run up to him, bodies close to each other as the both of you find comfort in each other. "i brought your favorite!" he says while winking at you after entering into your apartment. "it's been so long jinnie!" you squeal, taking a large bite of the hamburger in your hand along with french fries. the place you love is always packed with busy crowds, the longest lines to order fast food. so how did he get them? oh right, kim seokjin is the son of a wealthy ceo. he can get anything he wants with a snap of his fingers. the conversation drifts smoothly between the two of you, comfort in your home. "you remodeled your apartment. it looks good." seokjin wiped the corners of his mouth with a napkin. "yeah! i saved enough money." you give him a fake smile, knowing that each penny was from the man in front of you or the other men you spend time with.
"how was your trip?" you muttered, resting on the couch upside down with a full stomach. "beautiful. the people there were nice and the food was great," he lies down next you, "but i missed a certain, special someone." he whispers to you, "a lot." your hand wraps around his shoulder, "really?" there's a knot in jin's throat as he can't believe he's right in front of you after such a long time. even if it was just two weeks. his eyes gawk at your pretty face, still youthful with happiness and ethereal. his breathing seems to stop as you come closer to him, lips too close to his. just as he's about to land a peck, your head turns to side and he catches a flash of a grin on your face. feeling a featherweight kiss on his cheek. his heart warmth's at your action. "wanna do something?" your eyes give him a questioning look. "lets watch the night sky tonight. maybe a cooking show until then?" you laugh at the uncertainty on his voice as he mentions the cooking series. "good to see you're still the same seokjin."
while you put on the show, you don't care to look at the lingering eyes on you. knowing it's just seokjin. don't care to notice how he can't keep his eyes off you or more like your phone that keeps buzzing with messages. seokjin's hand itches with a need to grab it. and he thinks he just might.

Day 104 of Writing Something Everyday
(365 Day Challenge)
Tumblr media
A lady came up to me with her little white dog and gave me her deepest apologies for my loss.
I had almost forgot about my mom - but I hadn't so it didn't bother me as much as you would've thought.
I couldn't do anything but shake my head and respond with "yeah" a lot.
I was really high and staring down at my chipped nail polish, I hate it when it starts chipping.
I don't remember ever speaking with this woman yet she knows these personal things?
I guess someone's talking about me in the building..
I wonder who it is but I don't want to wonder about that right now.
She walks away and I continue to drink my cranberry juice. I didn't put my french vanilla creamer on the grocery list and now I can't have coffee unless I go and get some at the closest store that's walking distance from where I live that likes to over price regular priced items.
No coffee again for me I guess unless I mustre up the valour at some point today to venture out into the unknown.
The cold coffee jug sits in the fridge taunting my forlorn heart every minute I don't choose it instead I pour a cup of crangrape juice the 4th cup this morning.
My dear coffee au jug, was it not thee that smitest me with thou tempting eyes - indeed I believe so, yea but my.. how I do digress.
Maybe I should just go now and get it over with?
I don't really want to go but I do want coffee..many coffees at this point and soon if possible.
I sigh a lot these days..
I must go on an adventure like a Hobbit now, does that require a bra? I don't think so - just some shoes as my toes are frozen in these dollar store crocs.
I turn off the lantern and the lighthouse, you can't see their light in the daytime.
I didn't think about you that much yesterday,
Or this morning other than just now to write this.
But I did think about my mom..
And coffee...
Oh the lady who patted my shoulder earlier like I was rocky and she was my coach.
Please don't make me run..
She was one of the managers at the building when I first got here along with 'Jenn' and her grape ape self (that's a story for another day) the old lady and her little white dog pranced in the apartment with me the first time I dropped something off. Telling me not to trust the lady next door that if I help her once I'll never get rid of her.
You; old lady in the Bono glasses.
I remember you now...
Okay, I really need to go get some creamer now, coffeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
On guard and such....

wip wednesday
okay so i am like fully procrastinating the fact that i have an exam next week for a course i have not had a lesson for since DECEMBER and i'm working on a bunch of little tumblr ficlets instead of any of my big fics so take this from the accidental kiss fic:
They're in the baking aisle when Christopher brings it up.
"Am I just supposed to pretend I didn't see that earlier? Without a bribe?" he deadpans, eyebrows raised expectantly. Buck glances at him over his shoulder distractedly, a furrow between his brows.
"Pretend you didn't see what?" he asks as he compares the prices of self-raising flour.
"Buck." Chris sighs, long-suffering.
"Kid, I'm gonna need more than that." Buck grabs the bigger bag and drops it into the cart before turning to give Chris his full attention.
"I saw you kiss dad." Chris rolls his eyes. "You did it right in front of me."
"What?" Buck blinks. Of all the things he'd been expecting, well, let's just say that hadn't made the list.
"Buck, you can't gaslight me," he scoffs, rolls his eyes harder. "I saw you French my dad."
"Where are you learning these words?" Buck blurts out, unwilling to face up to what his heart already seems to know as it pounds against his sternum.
"Mason." Chris shrugs. "He made a Tumblr account."
and the opening of the neighbours au because i am so attached to this idea already and its probably gonna end up being a behemoth of a fic that i won't finish until august:
Buck isn't entirely sure how he ends up owning a house at twenty-six, all he knows is that Hen shoots him a dirty look when he tells her how much it cost him.
It goes like this: they arrive at a medical alert button call in a small neighbourhood of semi-detached houses, Buck breaks down the door and locates the old woman who had fallen, he talks to her as Hen and Chim diagnose her with a broken hip, she tells him that she's moving in with her kids, he tells her that he's trying to move out of his ex-girlfriend's apartment, then she's offering to sell him her house for the same price she bought it for in 1978.
The next thing he knows, he has a wholeass house.
um and my brain is mush so idk who to tag but yeah do it if you want to !!!

Search for Airbnbs in Paris in late July and you’ll be offered options ranging from a tiny studio with glimpses of the Eiffel Tower for $167 a night up to a stunning luxury apartment steps from the Champs Elysees for nearly $3,500 a night. The company is also offering two lucky fans the opportunity to sleep in the iconic clock facade of the Musée D’Orsay on the night of the 2024 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.
Some 3 million visitors are expected to attend the Olympics in Paris and like one of the 10,500 athletes competing, Airbnb has been preparing for years. In 2019 the company inked a nine-year partnership with the International Olympic Committee that runs through the 2028 Summer Games. Airbnb said at the time that it expected the deal to lead to hundreds of thousands of new hosts in cities around the globe as the games rolled through.
In Paris, the Olympics give Airbnb a chance of winning a bigger foothold in a city where local officials have introduced restrictions on short-term rentals. The company has faced similar resistance from cities around the world after Airbnb and similar platforms exploded in popularity over the past decade. Critics accuse them of driving up rent and bringing unwelcome trash, noise, and physical dangers to residential neighborhoods. Airbnb and its rivals say they provide flexibility to travelers and extra income to hosts, who themselves may be squeezed by rising housing costs. If Airbnb rentals are seen as largely successful during the Paris Olympics, by providing cheaper stays than hotels and a cash infusion for some locals without too much inconvenience for others, the platform could permanently grow its already substantial presence in the city. Last summer, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky urged Parisians to list their homes for the games to keep prices down, and the company hopes some new hosts drawn by Olympic demand will stick with the platform long-term.
Airbnb claims the Olympics effect is already at work. The number of nights booked during the games is already five times greater than for the same dates in Paris in 2023, according to new data released by the company. Olympic events will also be spread throughout the rest of France; the Paris suburbs and other French cities have also seen high rates of short-term rental activity.
The number of active listings in Paris is now at an all-time high, having increased by some 40 percent. The average Airbnb host expected to earn 2,000 euros ($2,145) during the games. But how much cash reaches the pockets of hosts will depend on getting their stays booked, and WIRED’s searches showed that many Airbnbs remain available with the games just five weeks away.
French Disconnection
Relations between the city of Paris government and Airbnb have been rocky for years. The city’s mayor Anne Hidalgo immediately opposed the company’s Olympics partnership when it was announced in 2019, and wrote a scathing letter to games organizers about Airbnb’s impact on residents in the city. The city had already passed a regulation mandating that people can only rent their entire primary residences for short-term stays totaling 120 nights a year.
Paris also recently mulled a ban on the small lock boxes hosts use to store keys, often a tell-tale sign of short-term rentals, citing them as an eyesore. The city did not immediately respond to a request for comment for this story but said in 2023 that tightening restrictions on short-term rentals led to decline in fines for breaking the rules.
Dave Stephenson, Airbnb's chief business officer, claims that without short-term rentals Paris may have crumbled under the pressure from outside guests—and been forced to build new hotels. There are an estimated 160,000 hotel rooms in the greater Paris area, but many of them will be occupied by Olympic staff and athletes. “These spikes in demand are a great way for people to use Airbnb,” Stephenson says. “It’s a great way for local Parisians to earn money and enable the games to be successful.”
Short-term rentals can function as a quick release valve for a city expecting an influx of visitors, increasing capacity for a short time nearly instantly. In fact, despite the usual hype around the Olympic Games, there are still many places to stay in Paris this summer.
A search on Airbnb for a two-person stay during the first weekend of the games returned more than 1,000 results, with many charging less than $200 a night. A search for hotel rooms on Expedia only turned up about 20 hotels offering similarly low rates. Hotel prices for the dates of the Olympics have actually fallen in Paris since December, but remain higher than the same time last summer, with the average cost of a hotel room during the opening weekend of the games going for around 440 euros as of May.
Booking rates for short-term rentals during the Olympics are up by 8 percent compared to the dates two weeks before the games across all locations hosting Olympic events, but the number of available rooms has increased by 38 percent, according to AirDNA, a third party platform that tracks short-term rentals.
The average price in Paris for a short-term rental during the Olympics is $481 a night, while those who booked earlier paid an average of $350. Outside of Paris, rates average $289, up from a previous $198. The “vast majority” of these listings on Airbnb, says Stephenson, come from families listing their primary homes. But other Parisians are begging travelers to stay away, warning that the games will bring chaos to the city, and some are planning to flee the city.
People from more than 160 countries and regions have booked stays on Airbnb for the Olympics, according to the company. The largest influx of tourists comes from the US, with American travelers making up 20 percent of the bookings, with many other guests coming from the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands.
Against that background, and with Airbnb's marketing push, Jamie Lane, chief economist and senior vice president of research of AirDNA, says it makes sense that more people are signing up with Airbnb to host. “Everyone starts getting Olympic fever,” he says, especially “with Airbnb doing more and more ads and market outreach within the city of Paris.”
Despite the flood of visitors, the ready availability of vacancies suggests that like many athletes competing in Paris, some Airbnb hosts will end the games with disappointment as their listings remained unbooked. But Lane says that in the past large events have been seen to provide a lasting boost to Airbnb’s footprint in a place. “A city is left with more listings than it had going in,” Lane says. For “people that maybe decide to do it for the first time, it ends up being a good experience. It was very little work. They think: ‘I should do this again.’”

Hey! I have a question do you have an explanation for DOATK? My mutual reblogs it a lot and I'm honestly a bit curious because It reminds me of the kind of fun bullshit I do with my friends (Putting random characters/people in a very specific story scenario where they click or fight with others that they would not in normal circumstances ever know. From what I've seen that's kind of from an outside view what this is like?) and I want to learn more about it all. I have listened to a couple of your songs too, which make me all the more curious haha!
So, this explanation has gotten way longer than I expected- Everything's under the cut, 'aight? Though I'd like to clarify first, anon, I haven't made any music for Diary of a Tourney Kid. Everything but the credited guest art for later rounds & a specific victory theme for another tournament's character for a crossover (THE WARDS, to be specific) on the official DOATK accounts has been created by one anonymous creator of the whole tournament. Though, If you somehow found my Soundcloud and actually enjoyed more than my most recent track, I would be both flattered & surprised because holy HELL am I bad at keying, but that's offtopic LOL
Anyways... Diary of a Tourney Kid, or DOATK for short, is a music/mashup tournament hosted on Soundcloud. There are 16 characters, they have mashups, and the music they use in said mashups is determined by sourcelists- A bullet point list of genres, pieces of media, and even concepts or themes related to the character. All of these characters are thrown into a bracket, and matches happen every so often, usually in batches of whole rounds one after the other. During matches, you vote on the character you like the mashups/sourcelist of more! This repeats until a winner is decided. It's sorta like Tumblr tournaments, but with actual tangible rewards, either in the form of a grand takeover for the winner of the tourney as a whole or more tracks for your favorite down the line! Now, Diary of a Tourney Kid started with a simple enough story, with a bit of an... interesting presentation, to say the least, with a combination of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, lined paper, and art for characters literally being doodles made with the default MS paint brush and then improperly bucket filled.
Tumblr media
Pictured above to illustrate that point is the host of the tournament in lore, Greg Heffley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He has teamed up with W.D. Gaster of Undertale fame to trap people in his diary for a fight to the death in his own tournament, due to reasons that range from being French (The entire Eiffel Tower, yes, that is a contestant) to "Ruining EVERYTHING" (Adam Conover, who acts weirdly out of character early on? ...Long story for another time.) Now, to continue, I think it's about time to bring up where DOATK differs from other tournaments in terms of bracket. Instead of a double elimination tournament that was typical for it's size, with a winner's and loser's bracket, DOATK runs on a triple elimination bracket, with a 3rd (And final!) chance of making a comeback all the way to grands in what is known as the goner's bracket. Being in this bracket has a pretty steep price, though; Everyone who goes through it is experimented upon by W.D. Gaster, (who has, at the moment, basically left Greg Heffley for dead, leaving the diary the tournament takes place in bouncing between hosts each round) and turning the poor souls who lose twice into the "goners" said bracket is named after.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...And, as shown by contestant 14, Inugami Korone/THE CANINE, it isn't pretty. If a contestant loses in goners, they're dead for good. In general, DOATK sets itself apart from a lot of other tournaments with the generally darker tone of goners, an astonishingly high production value for the fact it is an anonymously run solo project, (There were entire FNF mods made for TWO matches!) and a really engaging story with genuine stakes and interesting characters. (Diary of a Tourney Kid has the unique honor of being the entire reason I have watched all 3 seasons of the TruTV educational comedy show Adam Ruins Everything, so, yeah... You can get pretty invested)
So, Yeah! That's DOATK. Lemme know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer/infodump!

OTD in Music History: Composer and pianist Maurice Ravel (1875 - 1937) plays some early piano works by a relatively obscure composer -- Erik Satie (1866 - 1925) -- at a concert put on in 1911 by the "Société musicale indépendante," a forward-looking group that Ravel had helped to found with the intention of counterbalancing the much more conservative "Société nationale de musique." Satie was not an *entirely* unknown quantity within progressive French musical circles prior to that fateful concert -- he had, after all, been close friends with Claude Debussy (1862 - 1918) since the early 1890s. But suddenly, in the wake of that performance, he found himself being widely hailed as a precursor and a prophet to a musical revolution that now found itself in full swing. The prominent French music publisher Demets asked for new works from Satie, who was finally able to give up his day job (playing piano in seedy Parisian cabarets) and devote himself to composition. Works such as the masterful piano cycle "Sports et divertissements" (1914) poured forth and were published in deluxe editions, and, for the first time, the Parisian press began to take Satie's music seriously. Perhaps most importantly, Satie himself became something of a magnet for successive groups of young composers -- all of whom he first encouraged, and then distanced himself from when their popularity threatened to eclipse his own or when they otherwise displeased him. In the early 1910's, there were the "Jeunes" or the "Apaches" -- all friends and associates of Ravel. A few years later came "Les Six," which originally consisted of Georges Auric, Louis Durey, Arthur Honegger, and Germaine Tailleferre, later to be joined by Francis Poulenc and Darius Milhaud. Finally, at the end of the decade, Satie oversaw the so-called "Arcuiel School," which included Henri Cliquet-Pleyel, Roger Desormiere, Maxime Jacob, and Henri Sauguet... PICTURED: A rare treasure -- a signed first edition score (published by Demets) of Satie's 5th and final piano "Nocturne" (1920). This piece was dedicated to the mother of Jean Cocteau (1889 - 1963), and Satie signed and inscribed this copy to Mme. Cocteau on the front cover.
A note about Satie’s “Nocturnes”: As his final works written for the solo piano -- other than the Premier Menuet (1920) – they are widely considered to rank among his most significant achievements in that genre. Ironically, the “Nocturnes” (and the “Premiere Minuet”) stand apart from most of Satie's earlier piano music because they are completely serious, lacking the zany titles, musical parody, and extramusical texts that he had typically featured in his earlier scores. They represent the final stripped down, almost “neoclassical” stage in Satie’s late evolution as a composer – yet they still remain instantly recognizable as the work of Satie, and Satie alone. A glance at the front cover of this first edition sheet music for the Fifth Nocturne reveals that there are actually six nocturnes in the set – but a careful second glance reveals a curious fact: there is no price listed next to the indication for the Sixth Nocturne. That’s because it was never completed; the incomplete torso of that work was only discovered, languishing in Satie’s notebooks, by a scholar examining them in the 1990s. As such, the advertisement for the “Sixth Nocturne” that appears on the front cover of this sheet music published in 1920 is a “ghost publication”: an advertisement for an anticipated product that never actually hit the market. That leaves this Fifth Nocturne as the final number in the set, and makes it the second-to-last piano piece that Satie ever published.

Navigating Genève Real Estate with a Chasseur Immobilier
Tumblr media
Geneva, a global city known for its political and financial significance, boasts a vibrant real estate market that attracts investors, professionals, and families from all over the world. Whether you're seeking to buy or rent, navigating the real estate landscape in Geneva can be a daunting task. However, with the assistance of a Chasseur Immobilier, or property hunter, the process can be streamlined and more efficient. In this article, we will explore the role of a Chasseur Immobilier and how they can help you find the perfect property in Geneva.
What is a Chasseur Immobilier?
A Chasseur Immobilier is a real estate professional who specializes in helping individuals find properties that meet their specific needs and preferences. Unlike traditional real estate agents who primarily represent sellers or landlords, a Chasseur Immobilier works on behalf of buyers or renters. Their role is to search for, evaluate, and present properties that align with the client’s requirements, saving them valuable time and effort in the process.
In Geneva, where the market is competitive and highly diverse, a Chasseur Immobilier brings invaluable expertise. They understand the nuances of the local real estate market, including the various neighborhoods, property types, and market trends. Whether you're looking for a luxury apartment, a family home, or an investment property, a Chasseur Immobilier can provide personalized guidance to help you make the right decision.
The Challenges of Geneva’s Real Estate Market
Geneva’s real estate market presents unique challenges that require expert knowledge and experience. Some of the common challenges include:
1. High Demand and Limited Supply
Geneva is a city with a relatively small geographical footprint, and its real estate market is often characterized by limited housing availability. Demand frequently exceeds supply, particularly for high-end properties in sought-after locations, making it difficult for buyers and renters to find the right property.
2. High Property Prices
The cost of real estate in Geneva is one of the highest in Europe, driven by the city’s international status, proximity to key organizations, and overall quality of life. This can make it challenging for those unfamiliar with the local market to find properties that fit within their budget.
3. Complex Legal and Regulatory Framework
Switzerland has a unique set of rules and regulations governing property transactions. The laws around property ownership, rental agreements, and taxes can vary depending on nationality, residency status, and other factors. For those unfamiliar with Swiss regulations, navigating these complexities can be overwhelming.
4. Language Barriers
Geneva is a multilingual city, with French being the predominant language. While many residents speak English, navigating contracts, negotiations, and local norms can still be challenging without fluency in French. A Chasseur Immobilier can bridge this gap by acting as an intermediary, ensuring that communication is clear and efficient.
How a Chasseur Immobilier Can Help
Given these challenges, a Chasseur Immobilier can be a game-changer for anyone looking to navigate Geneva’s real estate market. Here's how they can help:
1. Expert Knowledge of the Market
A Chasseur Immobilier has an in-depth understanding of Geneva’s real estate landscape. They are aware of the best neighborhoods for families, professionals, and expatriates. They know which areas are up-and-coming and which locations hold long-term investment potential. With their expertise, they can provide you with tailored property recommendations based on your needs and preferences.
2. Access to Off-Market Properties
In Geneva, many of the most desirable properties are not listed on public real estate platforms. These off-market properties are often offered through private networks and connections. A Chasseur Immobilier Genèvehas access to these exclusive listings, providing you with a broader range of options that may not be available to the general public.
3. Time and Effort Savings
The process of searching for the right property can be time-consuming, particularly in a competitive market like Geneva. A Chasseur Immobilier takes on the responsibility of sifting through listings, arranging viewings, and providing you with a curated selection of properties that meet your criteria. This saves you considerable time and effort in the property search process.
4. Negotiation Skills
Real estate negotiations can be complex, especially when dealing with high-value properties. A Chasseur Immobilier acts as your advocate during the negotiation process, helping to secure the best possible price and terms. They are skilled in handling offers, counteroffers, and dealing with multiple stakeholders involved in the transaction.
5. Legal and Administrative Support
Navigating the legal and administrative aspects of real estate transactions in Switzerland can be tricky, especially for non-residents. A Chasseur Immobilier can guide you through the legal process, ensuring that all paperwork is completed correctly and that you are compliant with local laws. They can also refer you to trusted legal and financial professionals for further assistance if necessary.
6. Personalized Service
A Chasseur Immobilier provides a highly personalized service, taking the time to understand your specific needs, lifestyle preferences, and budget constraints. They will focus on finding properties that align with your exact requirements, whether it’s a particular location, property type, or specific amenities.
Why Choose a Chasseur Immobilier in Geneva?
In a city as dynamic and fast-paced as Geneva, having the support of a Chasseur Immobilier can be the key to securing the perfect property. Their expertise, local knowledge, and personalized approach can make the difference between a stressful property search and a smooth, successful transaction.
1. Peace of Mind
By entrusting your property search to a Chasseur Immobilier, you can rest assured that you are being guided by a professional who has your best interests at heart. They will handle the complexities of the market, leaving you with peace of mind and confidence in your decision-making.
2. Efficiency and Convenience
Finding a property in Geneva can be overwhelming, but with a Chasseur Immobilier on your side, the process becomes much more efficient. They will streamline the search process, arrange viewings, and assist with the paperwork, allowing you to focus on other important aspects of your move.
3. A Tailored Approach
Each client is different, and a Chasseur Immobilier understands the importance of tailoring their approach to meet your specific needs. Whether you are looking for a luxurious city apartment, a family-friendly suburban home, or an investment property, a Chasseur Immobilier will provide a bespoke service that aligns with your goals.
Conclusion
Navigating the real estate market in Geneva can be a daunting task, but with the help of a Chasseur Immobilier, the process becomes far more manageable. Their expertise, local knowledge, and personalized service ensure that you can find the perfect property while saving time and avoiding common pitfalls. Whether you are buying, renting, or investing, a Chasseur Immobilier can be an invaluable ally in helping you navigate Geneva’s competitive real estate landscape.

Michel Handfield, M.Sc. sociology (2024-10-07), written in French from my Facebook post on September 30, 2024.
Have you noticed that for decades we have been seeing cuts in certain public services - let's remember the Bouchard government's cuts to health - and subsidies to large multinationals under the pretext that our enrichment will come from there? But, have we seen this enrichment?
Would we have been better off investing in ourselves - education, health (including prevention), social development, our small and medium-sized enterprises, the cooperative economy, Research & Development, the environment and public transportation, for example - to develop ourselves and take our place in the global economic system?
Would we be better off developing our small and medium-sized enterprises rather than waiting for an economic miracle from foreign multinationals? Furthermore, once they have made their profit, their equipment has become obsolete or another country offers them more attractive benefits they have no ties that keep them here. So, most of the time, they will look to the highest bidder, unlike small and medium-sized enterprises that have local, family and cultural roots that encourage them more to stay in their region, even if they expand some of their activities abroad!
In fact, we must support our companies so that they can also develop internationally, but while maintaining their local roots. Our success can only come through this and not through golden bridges to multinationals, with a few rare exceptions.
This was always my approach, but, as I am a sociologist (a "soft science", as they say), I never had what was needed for jobs, unlike the managers and apostles of subsidies who promised us that money was to overwhelm us. (1) But, apart from companies that have often been well watered in subsidies, have you seen this money? In fact, while it is often mentioned in these promises and we even pay a high price to obtain these foreign investments, we rarely see the long-term benefits. (2) Just think of Northvolt, the latest in a long list of beneficiaries of these subsidies.
Notes 1. In common parlance, we were led to believe that the benefits would be so considerable that they would “trickle down” onto us, which meant that they would enrich us all. A nice figure of speech, but not the most transparent because Quebec can enrich itself, but that does not mean that all Quebecers enrich themselves. Enrichment can be limited to only a few; an economic elite, for example. This is because enrichment and redistribution of wealth are two different processes that should not be confused.
2. I remembered reading a text from Le Devoir on this subject :

Online Home Decor: Enhance Your Living Space with the Click of a Button In Industry
The Rise of Online Home Stores Over the past decade, online home shopping has skyrocketed in popularity as more retailers move their inventory online. Traditional brick-and-mortar home goods stores still have their place, but the convenience and selection of online decor shops has transformed how many consumers furnish and accessorize their homes. A recent survey found that over 70% of Americans have made at least one home decor purchase online in the past year. The emergence of large online retailers like Wayfair, AllModern, and Home Depot has given shoppers access to catalogs with hundreds of thousands of products from furniture to art to lighting and more. Customers can easily filter searches by style, price point, brand, color, material, and other attributes to quickly narrow down options. Many online stores also offer virtual room planners and 3D rendering tools so customers can preview potential purchases in their actual space before hitting "buy." The Variety and Selection of Online Home Decor Stores What sets Online Home Decor retailers apart is the immense variety of inventory they can offer compared to physical stores with spatial limitations. While a local boutique may stock a few hundred pieces at most, many online retailers offer well over a million unique home goods spread across every category from contemporary to coastal to industrial styles. This allows niche and specialized designers, artisans, and brands easier access to a global customer base. Online shops catering to specific aesthetics like bohemian, mid-century modern, farmhouse, Scandinavian, and ranch have emerged alongside mega retailers. Customers seeking unique one-of-a-kind finds can spend hours browsing independent artists and boutique manufacturers only accessible digitally. The level of customizability is also far greater online. Many products like sofas, rugs, lighting fixtures, and textiles now come in a dizzying array of fabrication and finish options allowing customers to design highly personalized versions. It's not uncommon for an online store to list 30 or more upholstery, wood, metal, and color choices for a single item. The Convenience of Online Home Decor Shopping Beyond selection, the main draw of online home shopping is unbeatable convenience. Customers can browse any time of day without dealing with store hours or traffic. It's easy to comparison shop across retailers from the comfort of home to find the best possible deals. Online shops also streamline the purchasing process. After adding items to the cart, checkout is a simple and secure one-click process. Most retailers offer free shipping on orders over a certain threshold and facilitate quick and easy returns if anything needs to be exchanged or refunded. Orders typically arrive within a few business days thanks to sophisticated fulfillment operations. Some now even provide same-day or next-day delivery in major metro areas. Setting up delivery is as straightforward as selecting a preferred date and time slot.

In the fight to regulate short-term rentals, New Orleans had a novel idea—it would hold a lottery. The plan was simple: Carve up the city into blocks and use a hand-cranked lottery machine to draw numbers, allowing one rental property per residential block. For the winners, the prize was a license to keep listing their property on sites like Airbnb and Vrbo. For the losers, despair.
But the controversial rules, enacted in March 2023, led to just one lottery before being temporarily halted by a federal judge in August. As the city awaits a final decision, short-term rentals in New Orleans have been left in limbo. The city has said it is no longer accepting applications for the short-term rental licenses it requires hosts to have, nor is it renewing existing ones. And, until the court makes a final ruling, the lottery balls have stopped spinning and the city has halted enforcement of its latest licensing rules.
The limbo stems from an ongoing lawsuit against the city from a short-term rental services company and a group of hosts who were unable to even enter the lottery due to narrow licensing rules.
Like many popular tourist cities across the world, New Orleans has a lot of short-term rental listings. On Airbnb alone, there were nearly 7,000 listings in early September—the majority of which were whole-home or short-term rentals, according to Inside Airbnb, a housing advocacy group that tracks Airbnb data. That’s about one listing for every 54 residents. By comparison, New York City had one Airbnb listing for every 220 residents before it enacted a sweeping law that caused the number of listings to plummet.
The average rent for an apartment in New Orleans is around $1,350 per month, but the average price per night of an Airbnb in the city is $198 per night, according to Inside Airbnb. That’s nearly $6,000 per month if booked each night. Officials say there are nearly 9,000 short-term rental listings in New Orleans, though the city did not answer questions from WIRED about how it tracks that number. More than 200 of those have been added in the past month.
Dawn Wheelahan, an attorney representing those suing New Orleans over the lottery law, disputes the idea that the city has too many Airbnbs. In a court document that uses city data, Wheelahan mapped which blocks would have multiple short-term rental applicants, and found most only had one applicant, while more than 50 blocks had three or four applicants and only one block had five applicants. “I just don’t see that there’s any proliferation” of short-term rentals, Wheelahan claims.
Whole-home rentals—the sort of bland and luxury stays that have become popular for travelers— are the ones perceived to eat away at housing stock, and can be owned by big-time landlords. New Orleans has tried and failed to stamp those out. Last summer, a federal court blocked another New Orleans law intending to ban whole-home, short-term rentals, ruling that it interfered with interstate commerce by barring people from out of state from owning and operating rentals in the city. Under the new, halted rule, people can own out of state, but there must be a host living on the property.
New Orleans wants to see the lawsuit resolved so it can “provide certainty and stability in this area of law for all citizens of New Orleans,” says Ashley Becnel, the chief zoning official with the city’s Department of Safety and Permits. The city maintains that the laws enacted this year “are constitutional” and “[it] is hopeful that the injunction will be lifted in the near future.”
In New Orleans, housing advocates say short-term rentals are hurting local residents—many of whom work in the tourism industry—and pushing them farther from the French Quarter, the city’s hub of bars, restaurants, and clubs. But residents fighting against the proliferation of short-term rentals face a Sisyphean task.
“It’s an industry that requires a lot of work to regulate, because [the short-term rental companies] don’t want to be regulated,” claims Allen Johnson, president of the Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association, a neighborhood group in the district next to New Orleans’ French Quarter. “It’s not really an industry that you can come to some sort of settlement with,” he argues. When one attempt at regulation fails and another is introduced, Johnson adds, there are new plaintiffs ready to challenge them. “It’s starting to feel like a game of whack-a-mole for legislatures.”
And for short-term rental hosts, the confusion and erratic shifts in regulation bring frustration and financial loss. Elisa Cool Murphy, a real estate agent, was operating a small Airbnb attached to her home in New Orleans. She says she entered the lottery for a license this summer before the court put a pause to the law. Like some other hopeful hosts, Cool Murphy was pitted against her own neighbors to compete for a lucrative short-term rental license.
Cool Murphy has a small suite on the property where she lives. She put the place—just a kitchenette, bed, and bathroom—on Airbnb. It’s not the kind of property a full-time tenant would likely lease, she argues. She says she took it off Airbnb temporarily due to the changing licensing requirements. The chaos around the lottery and the subsequent court delays have “needlessly caused a lot of anxiety and stress to people,” she says. Cool Murphy put the little suite back online in October after learning that the latest licensing rules weren’t being enforced.
Smaller short-term rental hosts like Cool Murphy say the New Orleans rules unfairly shut down dependable side hustles. Before the new rules were enacted, Airbnb hosts in New Orleans made a combined $114 million in 2021, with an average host earning over $16,500, according to the company. Airbnb also positions itself as a source of income and tax revenue for hosts and cities; in 2022, the company said it collected and remitted around $23 million in tourism taxes in New Orleans alone.
Airbnb isn’t involved with the current lawsuit, but the ruling would have implications for the company’s hosts. “The majority of hosts in New Orleans share just one home, and one-third say the income from home-sharing has helped them avoid foreclosure or eviction,” Nia Brown, an Airbnb regional policy manager, tells WIRED. “We believe there is a path forward to craft a sensible alternative to the current rules and hope lawmakers will bring all stakeholders, including our host community, to the table to find common ground.”
The saga in New Orleans is the latest example of a city trying to wrest back housing and calm rising rent and property prices. It’s been a problem around the globe ever since companies like Airbnb made short-term rentals a lucrative alternative for landlords.
In Florence, Italy, lawmakers recently voted to ban new short-term rentals in the city center. New York City began enforcing a strict law on short-term rentals earlier this month. The change immediately led some 15,000 short-term rentals on Airbnb to either disappear or convert to long-term listings. The move is seen as a test: If America’s biggest city can stamp out illegal short-term rentals, it sends a loud message for other cities looking to do the same. But the latest languishing court case in New Orleans shows just how difficult it can be for cities to wrap regulations around the unwieldy short-term rental industry. As it sits in limbo, the bookings continue.
