Hi, I'm new here, I've just discovered Jeff a couple of weeks ago. And now I feel like a teenager again with a celebrity crush 😅
I'm very busy irl and I'm slowly working my way through his acting gigs and music videos. As a Jeff expert, what do you suggest a newbe like me should watch/listen to/read/know? I'm a little confused about all the Jeffs :D
a jeff expert 😭
Hi! Welcome!!! ❤️🥰 I hope you understand by asking this you have given me the opportunity to info dump about this man 😭 I'm sorry in advance but here is a (still very long) basic guide to Jeff Satur :)
Acting
I don't know what you have and haven't watched yet but his main show is KinnPorsche (which you can watch on IQIYI) his character Kim is only a side character though.
There are two series you can watch on youtube
He she It (3 episodes, about 50 minutes all together)
Labeled as a horror but it's not really.
youtube
Ingredients the series (21 episodes, each aprox 10-20 minutes)
Cute slice of life series about cooking
youtube
He just had a movie come out called The Paradise Of Thorns, it is on Netflix in Thailand (and will probably come to netflix in other country's too eventually) so you either need a VPN or other site to watch it currently

Happy Ending
Jeff is currently in the process of making his own series called Happy Ending.
He has made a pilot for it but it hasn't actually been filmed yet and is scheduled to start filming sometime around the middle of this year, and be out around the end of the year.
youtube
Vamp
He is also going to be part of another show called Vamp, Also not filmed yet but scheduled for sometime this year.

Wuju Bakery
This was filmed back in 2023, and was meant to come out the same year and then the date got moved twice, something happened and the company that was making it did some shady things and now its unknown if this will ever actually air, but you can still find bts photos and people often reference this show so I'm going to mention it here.(There is also 40 second trailer)
youtube
Call Me By Fire S3
Jeff was also on a Chinese survival show called Call Me By Fire S3 (can be found on youtube, there is english subtitles)
youtube
Music Videos/Jeffcest
Jeff has been making music for 10 years, (he used to use the names Jeff the Demo and Jeff Garden if you want to look up any of his earlier songs on youtube)
Due to his whole vibe (and specifically his music video for Ghost, which is actually a two part MV continued in his other song called Yellow Leaf)
People started shipping him with the characters he plays in his music videos. This has been labeled as Jeffcest, and each Jeff is a clone, the clones are each named after their respective song titles unless they already have name, pretty much everything about Jeffcest is fan made.
youtube
The most prominent of Jeffcest being a character called Sunshine from the music video Dum Dum. (There are 3 music videos for Dum Dum, Thai, English and an Unchained version)
(Ghost and Lucid are two of the other most used)
Jeff has dressed up as Sunshine during a concert and was also just brought back in Jeff's most recent MV called Ride Or Die. (which only came out 5 days ago)
Sunshine has his whole own lore (not fanmade comes from Jeff) which I wont get into here but if you want me to explain feel free to message me :)
youtube
youtube
Jeffs most popular song is probably Fade (based on the views, 208 million)
But his other most popular song is probably Why Don't You Stay which is an OST from KinnPorsche. There is a Thai and English version.
youtube
All of his MVs have an interesting story line so they're all worth watching at some point.
Some songs Jeff is featured in:
Far - Silvy ft. Jeff
แผลเป็น (scar) - bodyslam ft. Jeff
Steal the Show - Shaun ft. Jeff
จำนน (White Flag) - Nont Tanont ft. Jeff
Other Things
Whenever Jeff preforms, wherever he is, it rains. He got joked to be the son of the rain god due to how often this happened, and for Halloween 2023 he held a contest for people to design him as the Rain God. (Rain God is also often used in Jeffcest)

Acounts
Jeff has his own company/studio called Studio on Saturn
Twitter - Instgram
On the last day of the month this account will post his schedule for the upcoming month letting you know when he has any scheduled events.

This Youtube account often posts fancams of the whole event from most of Jeffs events.

This youtube account posts any Lives Jeff does.

Brands

Space Shuttle No.8
Jeff put out his first album last year and it came with a box set (can no longer be brought but I have photos of the whole thing here :)
Pets
This man has so many cats like 20 something last time i heard him talk about them 😭

(And I don't know where to put this but his fans are called Saturdayss or Sats)
i am so sorry how long this is but I hope this was what you wanted and helped 😭💛💛💛
#if you want clarification on something feel free to ask :)#there is probably basic things you already knew but i thought i'd add them just in case :)#just watching his MVs is gonna be the easiest#if you havent seen it kinnporsche is a great show but jeff is part of the third couple in the show so he doesnt have much screen time#jeff mainly posts on twitter so most his updates will be on there#Jeff also makes a lot of puns/dad jokes in thai and they often need like 3 paragraphs to translate what he is talking about hghfgdfghfghdfg#jeff satur#ask#anyone wanna add anything i forgot?

something about First saying "do you understand that its hard to find another person who likes bdsm?" (yeah)
something about Prom's face when Nont proposed to switch roles (he looked like he won the lottery, something tells me he prefers this twin)
Sexual compatibility, mutual desire, feeling free without judgment, etc. Sex is not just sex.
No one can tell me that Playboyy is porn without a plot. The conversation is there, listen to it.
#playboyy the series#playboyy#this is my favorite episode so far#Tomorrow I will watch it again because there is a lot to comment on.

The Heart killers ep 11 stray thoughts
With accompanying screenshots, cuz I take to many and they can't just go to waste

Once again/still Keen just wants to be included. Now that he has seen Lilly will never see him as equel to his brothers, he is trying to get validation from Bison and Fadel.

Right, cuz you look like you're good at that. We will just pretend that we haven't seen your backbone turn into jelly when you're around Captain

Wait, so they didn't kill him. Where has he been this whole time, in between staging his murder and this scene? Was he just chilling with Nont in Fadel and Bisons kidnapping lair (which they apparently have).

He just knows a guy, casual .
He also just has a whole plan planned out. You'd think he was the one with the training in this shit, not Fadel

The look of concern in his eyes. Because of course, Style was able to spot the slight change in Fadels expression, indicating he was upset/weary/uncomfortable.

Doesn't he say younger brother (nong chai/shai [im not sure how it is written]) here, why would they translate it like that, this makes it seem like he doesnt see Fadel as his brother.

Finally somebody is giving that tattoo the love it deserves.

Facts
Also the first time (or one of the rare occasions) that we see Fadel with genuine, borderline crazy/psychotic anger in his eyes. He's usually the one to be more calm and

Oh, they're using their height, narrowing in on her, forcing her to look up, making her feel small. Stunning, just what she deserves.

-I love you so much; I'd give up my freedom for your safety

-I love you so much; I'd give up my life for your freedom.
Also, btw, 5 years of prison for the number of murders they committed, thats pretty nice. Of course, i wanted them to be free, but looking at it logistically, that is a solid deal
It does imply a timeskip, whomp whomp

Just give me a clear yes or no. Is Bison religious (christian, to be specific)? Cuz this is just a saying and stuff, but also putting it next to all the other christian Bison stuff we've seen, im starting to believe it

Ah, look at that. Fadel got his family (parent), and Bison got his little brother (Babe). These boyfriends are adding way more to their life then you would first assume.
Also, Styles dad immediately suggesting they get married as soon as he realizes they are genuinely dating it ao cute. He has/knows as lil casual-/subtlety as Style does. I guess it's genetic

Omg they are so sweet. Not hiding/secret but private cuz its their communication, their comfort.

I needed this scene to be like an hour long actually, just them cleaning each other with the garden hose, sweetly talking about whatever.

Right. I'm not surprised, I could tell Style was a bitter but like looking at his and Joongs laugh afterwards (and just the absurd inconvenience of it) I'm gonna guess this wasn't scripted, just Dunk. Which.. raises some questions, but we'll keep moving.

Dude was straight up beefing with a child

So he is either assuming hell die a natural death or he's killing himself. Cus i assumed he'd probably die on the job, get killed by someone, but that for sure requires there to be another person. I guess he could also be insinuating that when he dies, he'll be alone in the sense that he is leaving no one behind, no loved ones.
Idk what is sadder him thinking no one would love him when he died or him assuming he'll die by his own hand.

Are they at a graveyard? It doesn't look like it. Because, im not very educated on Thai law, but i can't think it would be legal to just bury someone wherever.

Style earlier the episode saying he'll die for Fadel(s safety) and Fadel saying he'll live for (/with) Style. God, i love them

Glad we are at least acknowledging the absurdity of it.

Are we talking (/joking) about Bison lactating? Cuz that would make that this shows second mpreg/omegaverse reference.

Forever watchfull Style

Forever considerate Style. Even with the garage to work at (and low key co-run) he is willing to give up time, just to keep Fadels dream/passion alive

Did Style fucking make a heart out of the sauce?! Why didn't we get a better shot of that, that is so cute.

So all the other boys his dad mentioned were just one night stands and situationships. Fadel was the first guy he actually wanted to settle down with. (Also, dont take this to mean anything, but it kinda mirrors Joong and Dunk. Joong having had an acting partner before Dunk, but splitting up under unfortunate circumstances, mostly out of their hands. Joong being Dunks' first actor partner, only having had a small unnamed guest role before working together with Joong)

Ive never seen to guys look so sad while eating burgers , like it was actually making me emotional. Cuz there was no big sad outburst or anything, just the everpresent underlying knowledge that this will be the last meal they'll get to share in a long time. Just the subtle sadness in their eyes and the little sniffles. I low key didnt expect them to be this good at conveying such subtle yet intense emotions.

The look in their eyes, i am actually so not okay

Not to be critical or anything but no way in shit that was done by an amateur. Like i get he'd have a pretty steady hand due to his training with guns. Bit not only does Bison usually hold his gun with both hands, it is an entirely different grip and requires such different muscles.

Yo wtf, I wasn't prepared for an emotional scene of just Kant and Style crying
This episode was just so full of cute scenes omg. I have so many notes that are just screenshots of a sweet scene or moment where the only comment I had was just saying aaahhw or some shit. And although I would love to share those with you, Tumblr has an image limit, so unfortunately, this is all I could stuff into one post.
I am a lil weary/concerned with how they are going to finish this all in one episode though. Like we have five years of prison to still cover and only an hour of screentime left.
Favorite scenes
Lillys confrontation was very satisfying
Style and Fadel cleaning eachother of after the paint fight ofc
Kant and Bison in the planetarium (specifically watching the stars)
Fadel and Style at the support group talking things out
Everything in Heart Burger, from the cute cooking together to eating through tears. Absolute perfection.
Kant and Bison tattooing eachother and just the sweetness of that all
And although their goodbye and Kant and Style crying in eachothers arms wasn't fun, it was a really good scene.
Also, there are no in-depth screenshot stats today (this post has already taken too long). Just know I took a total of 245 screenshots (funfact: that is actually more picture than I have of myself on my phone)
#what a fucking rollercoaster of an episodes#decided to just put in all the emotions#the heart killers#the heart killers the series#fadelstyle#fadel thk#style thk#kantbison#kant thk#bison thk#and like ig#keen thk#lilly thk#joongdunk#joong archen#dunk natachai#firstkhaotung#first kanaphan#khaotung thanawat

Rose's Day of Asks - the sequel
Hi! My question for you... Which actors do you wish would get cast in a bl as a lead? and with what partner, if you have any in mind?
Have a wonderful night. Rose❤️
Hi Rose, thank you so much for your question! I hope you feel better already. 💜💜💜
There's so many actors I'd love to finally see as the lead in a BL - mostly solo actors because they started their acting careers as side characters, love rivals or villains so there's so much potential to pair them with other fresh faces.
Someone who immediately comes to mind (surprising, I know lmao) is Winner Tanatat because I love him dearly and he's reliably been stealing the show for me wherever he pops up. He's basically taken Big Thanakorn's place on top of the third wheel podium now that Big FINALLY got his well-deserved main role.
I also can't believe domundi have been sleeping on Poppy Ratchapong for so long. Yes, he's talented and funny but have you considered giving Poppy a boyfriend?? Maybe make it Nont Intanont because they both looked really good in Nont's MV for ธรรมดาที่ไหน:
Then again, domundi have also been sleeping on Mark Sorntast until recently when he's been looking like that FOR YEARS.
And gmmtv isn't much better. I mean, Papang Phromphiriya exists. I know I'm not alone in wanting him as the lead in a BL (or any show, really, just give me more Papang I'm begging you gmmtv 😭).
I'm also very partial to Kay Lertsittichai but gmmtv seem to have firmly typecast him as the villain now. Which is an injustice (I like his villains though - they're very pathetic and wet).
Same with idolfactory and Heng Asavarid. Someone free these men from their status as morally questionable side characters!
Unpopular opinion time but this scene with Heng and Nat Sakdatorn in The Sign stole the whole show for me. The things I'd do for more HengNat. 🫠
Then there's Kokliang Parinya who's posting the most beautiful photoshoots on his insta EVERY DAMN WEEK yet somehow he's not been the lead in a BL even once. That man's a medical doctor ffs please someone cast him as the leading man. 🙏

I also need justice for Non Ratchanon (even though he's been in a short story compilation by Director Golf and in a few other things like The Rebound but that just shows how well he can act) and I'd love to see him as the lead in a fully-fledged 12 episode BL.
The same goes for Bank Chanwut. I MEAN JUST LOOK AT HIM (and imagine what could have been if 9NAA didn't mess up Beyond the Star).
And I generally don't understand how Rossi Nonthakorn isn't everywhere after On Cloud Nine (yes technically he was playing the lead here and in another shortform series along with Non Ratchanon but that's not the same innit).
This is getting far too long already but I can't believe I almost forgot about Boss Thawatchanin who can do cute and, uh, whatever else that was with Gap Jakarin in Norrasing (but, really, I don't mind, give me more GapBoss):
And what about Na Naphat? He made me like Tawan in Kinnporsche (he did everything wrong and I love him) AND WE WERE PROMISED NA AND FIAT PATCHATA IN WISH ME LUCK!!
There's really so many other actors that I'd love to see in the spotlight in their own series. Like JJFong in a proper show where they aren't relegated to comic relief. Or JJUs now that they're freed from BOC's basement. Or PromMark because they've been trying to sail their ship for years now (and they recorded a song together that's still one of my faves) but maybe we'll finally get lucky in Jack & Joker. 🤞
#ok what to even tag this#thai actor#jane watches stuff#thank you this was so much fun to do 💜💜#i could go on and on#i have so many faves who aren't really all that mainstream#and it's so much fun to follow their careers#some thankfully already had main roles or have series coming up#like noh phouluang and haii sarunsathorn and gun thapanawat#and just now mhing thatsaphon resurfaced and he's so fine pls pls someone give him another main role with exactly that look

I posted my thoughts on Playboyy on MDL, but I also wanted to get in on the discussion here :)
Playboyy, I think, is something quite special. Before I get into a review though, I want to clarify what Playboyy isn't because I feel this show is getting a bad rap from viewers who came in with false expectations and were disappointed by the reality:
This show isn't really "BL" in the traditional sense. While there is romance, it is not the focus of the show. The romantic relationships frequently take a backseat to the the personal development of characters and the relationships between friends. It is also nowhere near "an idealistic world free of homophobia" (or, as in more modern BL, a world where gay love triumphs over societal homophobia)--it is a very real and harsh world where the characters are hitting rock bottom. Finally, a lot of the NC scenes aren't trying to be sexy or titillating. They function as pieces of the plot and often depicting negative experiences.
I think going into the show with these expectations in mind makes it a better experience. But on with the review:
STORY: I, personally, really loved the story of Playboyy. As someone who has experienced losing friends badly to drug addition, I found Nont's story particularly raw and effective (and, honestly, quite triggering). I thought the decision to use an ensemble cast and a weaving narrative was especially effective in creating a real sense of this disadvantaged and isolated community caused by societal prejudices. It was very satisfying to watch these narratives bump into each other, often in completely accidentally and tragic ways. While I agree some of the story was over the top or hard to follow, I didn't find it particularly detracted from the quality of the show. I like getting a little exaggerated in my narratives and I think it fit with the highly stylized production. While it wasn't a water-tight plot, I think it was probably the strongest script in the past year in terms of really exploring the depths of the characters and their conflicts. None of the characters felt like extras or like they were leaning on tropes. Each individual had their own story to tell and had their moment to shine.
ACTING: The acting in Playboyy is a bit hit and miss. As a stand-out star, Dech is absolutely untouchable. Nant/Nont are a monster of a roll that swings between camp, performative highs and truly raw, exposed lows, and he brought me along with him every step of the way. Really, really impressive work. Shell was a wonderful partner for him, matching him in almost every scene and developing a unique and intriguing chemistry. I also greatly enjoyed any scene with Parm and/or Aun, which always felt very grounded and warm, and was continually impressed by Korn, who managed to maintain a necessary friction between Zouey and the rest of the cast. Beyond these actors, the performance were a little bit shakier. Some of the actors struggled with stilted line deliveries (and I don't mean the English, which I've never had a problem with) or unnatural body language. I was never quite sold on Jack/Chat or Jeffy/Fay as couples, though each actor shined in other areas (such as Chat and Korn's wonderful friendship). In particular, and unfortunately, I found Hymn took a stylized drama and crashed it into melodrama more often than he stuck the landing. That said, I still found this ensemble created a style that played to their strengths well and rarely rendered a scene ridiculous.
PRODUCTION: Production is where this show really, really shines. The lighting is absolutely gorgeous, full of intentional color, harsh shapes, and neon texts. Each arc and couple has their own world and visual language that helps sort out the massive cast and is, quite frankly, beautiful. The highly stylized, theatrical sensibilities also help highlight the moments when humanity comes crashing in and we left very broken characters in plain framing. It's really, really beautiful to watch. I know I'm in the minority here, but I love the costuming of this show. I think the underwear was a phenomenal way to juggle the desire for nakedness with the reality of film-making and the comfort of the actors. If you allow it to, the underwear becomes part of the style and lets the characters exist, naked and vulnerable, without becoming exploitative. I also loved the way fashion (especially Nont's) brought it's own sense of drama and feeling to the characters. Realism clearly wasn't the goal here, and this department delivered.
NC SCENES: Finally, because it has to be talked about, I think the way the NC scenes were stylized were nothing less than brilliant. Playboyy telling a story about the human condition through sex, it is not making porn. When the characters are feeling good and feeling pleasure, the audience is allowed to find the sex scenes hot. But more frequently, the scenes depict a vast variety of other emotions. When Zouey is feeling awkward, nervous, and uncomfortable, the scenes are made awkward with clumsy blocking and…eccentric soundtracks. When characters are being hurt, the scenes are painful and brutal and shocking--escalating quickly and making you wish it would slow down or resolve to something different. It's incredibly effective. I've been very disappointed at the way BL fans discuss sex in this show, as if the only purpose of an NC scene is to provide spicy fanservice for the viewer to get off on. The old Oscar Wilde "Everything in the world is about sex. Except sex, which is about power." definitely holds true here. For these characters, sex that is about their own pleasure is rare and the show mirrors that reality. But that doesn't make the scenes bad or "accidentally" ridiculous. It is an intentional part of the story and, in most cases, very effectively done.
In all, this isn't a show that I would widely recommend to everyone, largely on account of the seriousness of the subject matter. But I am infinitely grateful that this show exists and is pushing the boundaries of what stories are acceptable to tell in BL. I've genuinely enjoyed my time in this world, and I very much look forward to the to be continued. :)
#playboyy the series#tldr loved it loved dech got badly triggered like three times and would do it again immediately#production for the gods and i will fight to the death for the stylization of the nc scenes... one day this will be an essay...

Every week I feel like I flip flop on Prom being the bad guy or not. And this week I think I landed on he’s not THE bad guy but he is A bad guy if that makes sense.
On one hand I feel like the writers are purposefully making him look sus as a red herring but he also clearly knows more than he’s telling Nont to keep him around. If he is the big bad he threw away his get out of jail free card to keep Nont with him. But he also had no reason to argue against the video unless he knew better.
To be fair though I still haven’t decided if Nont and Nant are actually twins or the same person despite whatever the after credit scene says
I may not know what’s going on but at least I’m having a good time

Turtles Catches Up With Old GMMTV: Dew the Movie Edition
[What’s going on here? After joining Tumblr and discovering Thai BLs through KinnPorsche in 2022, I began watching GMMTV’s new offerings -- and realized that I had a lot of history to catch up on, to appreciate the more recent works that I was delving into. From tropes to BL frameworks, what we’re watching now hails from somewhere, and I’m learning about Thai BL's history through what I’m calling the Old GMMTV Challenge (OGMMTVC). Starting with recommendations from @absolutebl on their post regarding how GMMTV is correcting for its mistakes with its shows today, I’ve made an expansive list to get me through a condensed history of essential/classic/significant Thai BLs produced by GMMTV and many other BL studios. My watchlist, pasted below, lists what I’ve watched and what’s upcoming, along with the reviews I’ve written so far. Today, I’ll cover Dew the Movie, screenwritten and directed by the seminal Thai BL artist, Ma-Deaw Chookiat, and starring Ohm Pawat and Nont Sadanont.]
Before I get started, I want to note that I’m publishing this review out of chronological order from the list: I owe you all a review of 3 Will Be Free, which will drop next week, but I just watched Dew the Movie this week, and felt the strong urge to get out my thoughts sooner rather than later.
Why?
I have had a number of quick conversations about Dew the Movie with some of the around-the-block mentors on Tumblr, particularly with @absolutebl Sensei, who very kindly answered my question last week about where Dew stands by way of the trajectory of BL in Thailand (and just to note, as ABL Sensei says in their answer: Dew is most definitely NOT a BL, but an important piece of queer media to consider for the BL-driven OGMMTVC).
The (small sample size) majority of people I’ve spoken to about Dew have actually not seen it, which is utterly understandable from the perspective of the tragic circumstances of the film.
When I first planned on watching it, I put a caveat note on the OGMMTVC list on my blog’s pinned post that Dew wasn’t an official part of the Challenge. I change my tune on this: I would argue, at least from my perspective, that it was a *must for me* to watch.
Again, why?
As ABL Sensei writes, Dew fits into a stage-checklist mold of queer cinema, where, at the time of its release, it potentially NEEDED to check off certain boxes in order to get produced. It very well may have NEEDED a tragic end (arguably, multiple tragic ends) to get made. It may have NEEDED to kill off a gay character (arguably, multiple gay characters) to be ripe for consumption by a wider audience. It may have NEEDED some amount of equivocating about those deaths within the art itself.
I was aware of this when I was watching Dew, aware of watching Brokeback Mountain again, aware of death and disappearance and erasure.
What I didn’t expect from Dew, possibly as strong a punch in the gut as the impact of the death(s) themselves, was how Asian the movie was.
This sounds silly, coming from an Asian-American towards a Thai movie made in Thailand, about Thai young men, as based on an original story from South Korea. But having visited Malaysia, one of my home countries, a whole bunch in the 1990s, at the same time when half of this film was situated -- I was absolutely struck by how the film did not shy away from the Asian experience of discrimination and the destruction of Asian family systems by way of homophobia and other explicit biases throughout the film.
The depictions of homophobia and discrimination in Dew were so raw that I caught myself actually gasping-crying at certain points. Before I get there, let me offer a quick summary of the film, since I believe not very many people have seen this:
Dew and Phop are two high school classmates in the late 1990s, in an extremely rural town called Pang Noi, adjacent to Chiang Rai. As the wonderful @shortpplfedup kindly noted for me, the timing of Dew and Phop’s engagement took place right before the onset of the 1997 Asian financial crisis that first emanated out of Thailand, and was also set as military dictatorships had given way to democracy in Thailand.
In their rural town, young men who are either out or presumed to be gay are sent to training camps. Accusations about the spread of AIDS are made vis à vis the LGBTQ+ population. Students who are out are rejected at school and in their homes.
I’ve written previously about how certain BLs, mainly in the MAME realm (Love By Chance and TharnType), have touched upon a kind of bigotry and bias that I have described as being particularly Asian in nature, reflective, word-for-word, of the kind discriminatory language and ideas that I was exposed to as a kid from my Asian parents.
To see that kind of discrimination and homophobia orchestrated on a community-based level -- in Dew and Phop’s school, when children are rounded up by teachers and soldiers to be sent to a training camp -- was brutal to watch.
It immediately introduced a level of dystopia to the entire film. And I ended up appreciating that the film went that far, so immediately at the beginning of the film, after we had seen an otherwise happy-go-lucky young man in Dew beginning to engage with Phop.
We needed that element of dystopia to kick off the film, because: Dew faces rejection from his school and, potentially, from his single mother, to be an out and gay young man in Pang Noi.
More brutally, arguably, is the rejection of Phop from his EXTREMELY patriarchal Thai-Chinese family, led by an almost despotic father, who is ready to take down his son at a moment’s notice, with a helpless mother present as Phop is progressively rejected by his father, his brothers, and the patriarchal family system that keeps that family together. (@shortpplfedup, as I wrote to you, this was Double Savage x 10, maybe x 100.)
The reason why I liked the juxtaposition of the community-level discrimination vs. the micro, family-level discrimination is that both experiences of this kind of discrimination are dystopic. As humans, as mammals: we crave community, family, and companionship.
To be rejected by your community is unnatural. To be rejected by your FAMILY is unnatural.
This is not a message that’s limited to Asian media or Asian cultures -- this exact kind of discrimination flourishes in America and elsewhere, including conversion therapy (Dew reveals that his own mother sent him to behavioral therapy). In rural Thailand, this kind of existence... simply cannot exist. That’s dystopic to queerness, to the LGBTQ+ community.
I brought up Malaysia earlier to make a quick mindset comparison. Around the time of the setting of Dew and Phop’s high school days, I remember hearing on Malaysian radio, riding in a car with my family, that the singer Sting (STING, y’all -- vanilla STING) had been banned from performing in Malaysia for his music being “too rhythmic.”
Malaysia, unlike Thailand, is an Islamic nation. But borders are only lines on a map, and as I’ve spoken at length with the amazing @telomeke about, the cultural flow between the countries is strong and present. It doesn’t surprise me, therefore, that rural Thai towns WOULD engage in this HIGH LEVEL of discrimination and exclusion, as unbelievable as it might seem to Westerns not familiar with either Asian or Western styles of dystopic discrimination, as I’m calling it here.
To try to survive: Phop runs away to Bangkok. And begs Dew to come with him. And Dew dies in the process.
Phop lives. He becomes an adult, a middling adult, with only middling success in his life. After a life in Bangkok, he moves back to Pang Noi, broke, married, reminiscing about Dew.
And he discovers, after becoming a homeroom teacher, that Dew has been reincarnated in the body of a young female student. (This is one of a few times that ideas of ghosts, spirits, the reborn, and the reincarnated are introduced in queer Thai media in 2019, along with Until We Meet Again and He’s Coming To Me.)
We then get the presence of an actual controversial filmmaking trope in age gap, between a young student and an older teacher. Age gap is certainly a present trope in BLs, past and present.
In lightly peeping the MDL reviews for Dew, I saw quite a bit of consternation about this age gap, and honestly, as a mom, I certainly felt the wibbles as well. But I thought it was an interesting filmmaking device to use, in putting Dew’s spirit in the body of a young student.
Because -- of course -- this inclusion forces us viewers to confront OUR OWN BIASES. Besides the community-level and micro/family-level discrimination we see in the film, we’re also forced to truly dig into what we, as viewers, are biased against. AND, the film very much digs into the controversial nature of teacher-student relationships as well, and Phop is condemned for his closeness with the reincarnated Dew through the student, Liu, wonderfully acted by Pahn Riety of 10 Years Ticket.
This film is fucking brutal. But the fact that it forces us to CONFRONT OUR BIASES, on so many levels -- it does a wonderful job at that.
To the end. To the end of the loss of Phop and Liu, so that Phop and Dew can be together in the afterlife.
The film leans on Thai-Chinese Buddhism in the second half, again, so reminiscent of He’s Coming To Me, leading to ANOTHER non-happy ending that brings two people together in unideal circumstances. Phop and Dew’s spirits will be together, not in this world, but where, exactly? Certainly not in the world of 1990s rural Thailand, a world that wanted them extinct.
When I say that this film is rooted in its Asianness, I really mean it. I think one needs to have an appreciation for how these themes tie together -- the community-level discrimination, how general sexuality and queerness were treated with such a hands-off/ignoring approach in the SEA region in the 1990s, and why Thai-Chinese Buddhism was chosen as a means of bringing Phop and Dew back together, just like Thun and Med in HCTM. There is an acknowledgement by the Asian filmmakers of these pieces that queerness was brutally unacceptable during these times in Thailand and elsewhere, and these pieces do not shy away from that reality.
I’m tremendously glad I watched this. I feel like crying right now while watching this, but I’m really glad, as someone with SEA roots, to have watched this, and to have seen discrimination at that level that I have seen previously, and to know it exists. If one takes up the OGMMTVC and feels like they can’t watch this, I can totally understand. But I think Dew the Movie is a tremendous gateway -- as He’s Coming To Me was -- to a very particular Asian mindset around collectivist living that does not jive with individual expressions of sexuality and queer acceptance.
Those realities are brutal -- I hate thinking about them, I HATE IT. The acceptance gateway that I have discovered vis à vis Thai QLs is a salve to my soul that was subjected to HEINOUS discrimination against ANYONE deemed different from my Indian culture growing up. But that discrimination was also VERY REAL. I’ve broken out of being exposed to it, and I’ve tried to become the best ally I can be. But the acknowledgement, through art, that that level of discrimination can exist, in my Asian cultures, is also a reality that I have a responsibility, as an ally of Asian descent, to reckon with.
(A quick side-note. Once more: Ohm Pawat shines. This man is a CIPHER of queer pain and queer joy. The acting, directing, and cinematography of this film was stunning. Two hours went by in a flash. If you avoid for the content, that makes sense, but if you’re a film buff, you may enjoy this film just for the devotion it pays to rural Thailand and the spectacular expanses that it captures.)
[Yow. My heart is aching, not just for Dew the Movie, but I’m also recovering from a crazy week of Step By Step, HA.
But anyway: my review of 3 Will Be Free will be up early next week. WHAT A GODDAMN AMAZING SHOW! The OGMMTVC is definitely ruining me for great content, up against what I’m watching that’s airing now (....side-eyes to SBS, hmph).
And: I’m digging into Until We Meet Again. IT’S FABULOUS SO FAR. Come AWN, Fluke and all of ‘em! I’m traveling for the holiday next week, but hopefully my watch schedule won’t get too messed up. But with this review of Dew and 3WBF next week, I’m holding all y’all down if you’re looking forward to these reviews!

Thanks for the clarification! (subtitles you had one job...)
BUT that is an interesting point. It got me another brain spark. If Nant and Prom were switching, or have that kind of getting overpowered dynamic. Ya know who else we saw being kinda switchy with the master/sub dynamic in one session, we now know was with Nant? The Dog-mask guy.
They went from Nant being dom / Doggo being submissive, to Doggo dominating him later
Also I am 50/50 on that the choking and knife are part of the session and he didn't die here
(Mixed the ep1 and ep3 preview snippets together)
But I think Porsche said something about safewords are for "That you don't accidentally kill your BDSM partner" which had me like... bruh. I mean yes but also oof. Foreshadowing?
hmmmmmm idk could he be doggo if he wears contact lenses? 🤔 Anyone without tattoos could be Doggo. Unless he's someone we don't know yet.

@scarefox If you listen carefully when Prom tells Nont to "crawl here and sit on my lap" Prom calls himself Master in English, like the translation missed that, but if you listen to it multiple times (like I have, for gifing purposes only of course *cough cough*) you hear him say it, so the proper translation would probably have been "crawl here and sit on master's lap", that's why Nont went ahead and called him Master afterwards, Nont did make a mistake asking Prom to define their relation by asking "what are we" afterwards tho but the Master thing was a good read of the situation, and yeah I feel like maybe they switch in the relationship, alright bye
#love how everyone is sus af#sorry for dumping all that on the post but I had to let the thoughts run free#playboyy the series#prom x nant#prom x nont#ep1#ep3#doggo mystery

Random thoughts about Playboyy the series ep 13:
I can't believe we are already at the 13th episode. I spent 13 weeks with these boys and watched their antics!
Again I thought things happened a bit too fast for my liking, but it's okay. I imagined they would face only terrible and tragic things, however, I believe the outcome is in their favour.
▪️Nont and Prom have a weird dynamic. I believe they kind of like role play a bit too much. Playing tragic lovers but ended up kissing and professing their love for each other. They are so dramatic. I still believe Prom is mostly a character who stands there and looks good (the expression in my first language sounds so much better than in English --") but their couple grew on me, thanks to their fans on this website.
▪️Nont is struggling with his latest decisions because he endangered several people close to him and Zouey (who never missed a change to rightly scold everyone) told him he can't consider them friends if he never really cares about their well being in his quest of truth and revenge. I don't like the preachy attitude of Zouey, but I can admit he is always good at making people ponder about what they are doing. He is the best therapist for most of these characters.
▪️Puen is alive and mostly well. Yeah! Last week, I was afraid he was dead. Now, Aob and him must hide from Jason Lee and they found shelter at the boys' house. First helped them settle. Again, I decided I'm not a fan of them individually but as a couple, I believe they are meant to be. I hope they will get the chance to be happy and free from Jason's wrath. Turns out, Aob never found Nant so all this torture from last week was for nothing.
▪️We still haven't learnt about the video Phop found on Nuth's computer. We just know it has something to do with Nant and it happened around the time he faked his death. Nuth wants to move on and be able to enjoy a quiet life with Phop. They are a couple I really like since their conversation about the struggles they face even inside their own community. I'm glad Nuth never decided to get full psycho on Phop as I feared several episodes ago. I need them to be able to leave their problems away and move on to another chapter of their lives. However, I don't like this last drug deal Nuth wants to do for Jason. It smells like bad news and terrible outcomes. Also, why does he not want to give the video to Nont? I want to see this video!
▪️Zouey was so suspicious in the previous episode, but we never got anything from it in this one. Is it going to happen in the last episode? Is he really hiding something? Apart from that I just can't stand him. I don't even have a good reason. I feel bad because I read many posts about him and what he is bringing to the story. The message he is sharing and how important it is. Unfortunately, his character is really unlikeable for me. He always sounds judgy to me.
▪️Porsche, Jump and Tutor worked together to help Jump be free of Jason by faking his death. I knew he couldn't be dead. I just didn't expect Tutor to help the couple because of the history he shared with them. Jump also insisted on the fact it would change nothing since he wants to only be with Porsche. I had to say bye-bye to my idea of them being a throuple. It would have been a very toxic throuple, but they would have made it, in my version of the story 😂. Nont also learnt about this and he now wants to team up with them to take down Jason. Nont is incapable of doing nothing. He is a very goal-driven person.
▪️Now let's talk about Keen. I understood he wanted to get back at Captain because of the videos and consequences. However, I don't get why he is still pretending to be in love with him? He got him expelled and Captain didn't suspect him to be behind it. He should just break up with him and move on. He told Captain he would still help me get to his dream of being a professional athlete... For what reason? Their couple is so dysfunctional. Will Captain learn the truth in the next episode or will he forever be in the dark? I can't see them being happy together after everything.
Next week we'll be the last episode. It's almost the end. 🥹
#my thoughts#thai series#thai bl#bl drama#bl series#playboyy the series#random thoughts#episode 13#playboyy spoilers#Almost the end of this series 😭#I can't believe one episode will be enough to end the story.#Keen's gone down on my estimation#Is it bad to have some characters you prefer even if they are not “good” characters?

Playboyy - Episode 5
So I spent much of the episode flipping people off on the screen. And then the best boy Puen decided to do it for real. I feel you, my man.
I have lost any trust I had in Prom. He was fucking creepy this episode for all of the minute he was on screen. What does he know?
Aob's tits are amazing even if he is a complete dick! He is the epitome of 'my eye's are up here' because I seriously get fixated on that mans chest.
I live in hope Jump gets something on Porsche because that kid deserves a good beating, the little shit. It's gone beyond the fun master/slave thing they had going on and Porsche is just straight-up degrading Jump who is now not enjoying the dynamic at all.
Love that the friend group found out the truth about Nont and just rolled with it. Free brother, ok then!
I was actually quite surprised at how upset Captain and Porsche were when they found out about Nant.
I actually liked Nuth and Phop with their weird little relationship. It's fucked up, it's creepy, it's dangerous and I'm really interested to know where it's going. A part of me feels like all this stuff pointing to Nuth is too obvious and so he doesn't know what happened to Nant.
I am VERRRRYYYY much looking forward to next week's disaster of an episode when you get all of these idiots in one room together! The mess it's going to be is going to be Epic. I can feel it.

Here's what we learn about Nant in episodes 1 & 2 of Playyboyy
Are you somebody who already dropped Playboyy or would love to drop it but you also need to know what happened to Nant? Don't worry, I've got you! I'll summarize the Nant plot for you so you can spend your precious free time watching another show that you actually enjoy (may I suggest Last Twilight?) [I'm still figuring out how best to present this information and what to include, so bear with me.] Episode 1
Zouey has been texting Nant ever since he went missing but his messages were left unread up until the day of his birthday.
The police are investigating Nant's disappearance or at least have investigated it in the past but it seems that they don't have any leads.
Nant's mother was a member of parliament and recently died. (We learn that from a newspaper headline.) Nant also has a brother (obviously) and a father.
Zouey blames his friends for Nant's disappearance because his friends pressured Nant into having sex.
Two more things Zouey says: "Nant had many things going on" and "You are always so nosy, Captain. You drove Nant away because of this. Haven't you learned your lesson?"
Nont makes his entry and it's such a cool scene!
Nont records video logs about his investigation. In those videos, he talks to his dad, which implies that they are working together. Episode 2
We are introduced to Prom, manager of the Playboyy Lounge and thus the former boss of Teena, Soong and Jump. Teena says, presumably about Prom "The boss has gone too far. I think this job isn't horrible if we had signed up for it." Aob replies: "The boss never forces anyone to work here" Jump responds: "Really? You should know better than we do." Does this have anything to do with Nant? We don't know yet.
His friends describe Nant as introverted and spoiled / dependent like a child.
Captain believes that Nant had a boyfriend.
Captain pressured Nant into having sex "with someone from the website". After that, Nant's behaviour changed. He became more reclusive.
Nant would sometimes be gone for days without answering texts or calls and without telling his friends where he was, which is why his friends are not sure when exactly Nant disappeared.
Nant asked his friends for money but his friends didn't lend him any.
Nant's mother was sick before she died.
We see Nont in his room, talking to a shadow about Nant's disappearance. Does that mean somebody else is involved in the investigation? Or is the shadow just a visual element, not an actua shadow of a real person?
Nont finds Nant's phone hidden in the toilet tank (I hope that's the correct English word).
Nant's phone wallpaper is a picture of him and Nont
Nont goes through Nant's phone. It's hard for me to know what he learns because I can't read Thai but I think the main points are: 1) Nant was broke and 2) Nant received regular payments from Prom.
It turns out that Prom is Porsche's older brother. Porsche wants Prom to stop working at the Playboyy Lounge and instead help him with their father's businesses. In that conversation, Porsche says the following: "Hand in your resignation. Nant is back. Why are you happy? Don't meet up with him or we are all screwed!" From the editing it's not clear to me if Nont overheard that conversation or not.
Nont visits Prom at the Playboyy Lounge. Prom asks Nont where he has been and says he was worried about him.
Nont learns from Prom that Nant had debt and was in trouble because of it. We already know that Prom gave Nant money. Now Nont suspects that Prom paid him for sex.
Nont and Prom hook up. It's clear that they had some sort of relationship but we don't know exactly what type.
Nont manages to restore text messages between Nant and Captain. It turns out that Nant sold Captain clips of him (Nant) having sex. We see a message from Nant reading "If I go harder, are you willing to pay more?" Nant also thanks Captain for helping him discover his sexual preferences.
I think that's all. I hope I didn't miss anything major.
#playboyy the series#I'll give you the plot to Nant's disappearance#so you don't have to watch the show#playboyy ep1#playboyy ep2

OK i wasn't super into this episode but :
I desperately want Phop and Nuth to pull through. Not necessarily as a couple, that's not super important to me, but like. could they both finish the show slighty better off that they started ? I'm probably too optimistic.
(yes this apply even if Nuth killed Nant. but if he did I think it will make for a poorer story because it would veer a bit too close to ye old clichés about mental illnesses)
Nont :"it's a game called Seven Minutes in Heaven". Zouey :"it's free counseling is what it is. tell me everything"
Perhaps I misjuged Prom : I still think he has his own agenda but he may not be such a rich boy after all. though it does beg the question :
is Porche supporting his half-brother by having a sugar daddy that they both call dad ? is that the situation here ? because if so... oof.
I wanted to feel for Aob but everything was so abrupt I was just like "okay then. awkward." please give me more insight on the situation
glad I saw a man getting fucked from behind while wearing a Titan costume. that wasn't an experience I had had before.
I am still laughing about Nont using a magnifying glass to look at their conspiracy board. it is so stupid and so very funny
Puen I saw you like five seconds but it was five nice seconds
