i think stringer bell’s most admirable quality has got to be his time management skills. how does he do it? he’s the COO of a major criminal organization and he’s taking business classes at the local community college. he’s developing real estate because his sense of self-worth is inextricably tied to power and wealth and image and he’s engaging in a toxic situationship with d’angelo’s girlfriend because he hates d’angelo. he’s starring across his childhood best friend in a tragic love story for the ages and he’s making eyes at mcnulty in a court of law. he’s preaching caution and common sense and he’s drunkenly ordering hits on elected officials. he’s commanding an army of child soldiers and he’s trying to do things a better way. he’s manipulative and he’s being manipulated. he’s an icon and he’s a cautionary tale. he really can have it all.

half of the writers room for gotham (2014-2019) was fully convinced it was a gritty hypermasculine cable cop show and the other half believed they were writing a batman 1966 spiritual successor for the dark cabaret crowd and all of them had conflicting fetishes and every episode was called something like i brought you my bullets you brought me your love and jada pinkett smith had the ghosts of several silver screen divas within her wrestling for control of her performance at all times and they always set aside some time for the penguin serve segment, where robin lord taylor as oswald cobblepot would appear onscreen with his slicked down spiky bangs and cunt it up in ways that the world hadn’t seen since edmund said now gods stand up for bastards in the very first performance of king lear. and nobody involved had ever seen a tv show before so it can’t be judged within those terms.

“Critical thinking has been described as an ability to question; to acknowledge and test previously held assumptions; to recognize ambiguity; to examine, interpret, evaluate, reason, and reflect; to make informed judgments and decisions; and to clarify, articulate, and justify positions” (source)
"Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing*, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action" (source)
"Critical thinking is the ability to think about one's thinking in such a way as 1. To recognize its strengths and weaknesses and, as a result, 2. To recast the thinking in improved form" (source)
————————————————————————
“To think critically, you must be aware of your own biases and assumptions when encountering information, and apply consistent standards when evaluating sources.” (source)
————————————————————————
“When encountering information, ask:
Who is the author? Are they an expert in their field?
What do they say? Is their argument clear? Can you summarize it?
When did they say this? Is the source current?
Where is the information published? Is it an academic article? Is it peer-reviewed?
Why did the author publish it? What is their motivation?
How do they make their argument? Is it backed up by evidence? Does it rely on opinion, speculation, or appeals to emotion? Do they address alternative arguments?” (source)
————————————————————————
“Critical thinking also involves being aware of your own biases, not only those of others. When you make an argument or draw your own conclusions, you can ask similar questions about your own writing:
Am I only considering evidence that supports my preconceptions?
Is my argument expressed clearly and backed up with credible sources?
Would I be convinced by this argument coming from someone else?” (source)
————————————————————————
“Some of the characteristics of critical thinking are:
Disposition. It is a mindset that involves the following factors:
Open-mindedness.
Respecting evidence and reasoning.
Being able to consider different perspectives and points of view (cognitive flexibility).
Not being stuck in one position.
Skepticism.
Clarity and precision.
Argument. It consists of making a statement that is supported by evidence. When analyzing a situation critically, you will need to make several arguments to come to a judgment.
Reasoning. Critical thinking requires inferring conclusions. From the facts and arguments presented to you, you use reasoning skills to come to a logical conclusion.
Criteria. Critical thinking is a matter of discerning truth from fiction. Not all facts presented to you may have the same level of truth. Certain conditions need to be met for something to be considered believable.
Metacognition. It is the ability to think about your own thinking. Critical thinkers can analyze their thoughts so that they can judge whether they’ve thought everything through to come up with better hypotheses” (source)
#keeping this in case i need to teach about identifying misinformation again#as those are neatly summarized/put#ressources#initiation aux médias et à l'information

Curled into himself barely breathing, the room dipped in darkness, he could smell the days he'd gone without a shower - filthy, unworthy, a failure. Unable to do anything right without...
The bedroom door opened slowly, making no sound. He never made any sound when he moved. If Vegas were like him, he'd get constantly startled like a child scared of punishment.
(The secret was to always await punishment. It wouldn't surprise you that way.)
(Pete had made noise only once, back there, running on the hard wood floor of the safehouse to escape, only to not escape at all.)
Vegas' own filth got drowned out by Pete's scent. The shampoo he used, his deodorant. His skin, his sweat. It was overwhelming - the tears started rolling again, and all Vegas could do was let them.
It didn't really matter. What was one more thing to reveal?
"Vegas? Oh-"
"Don't."
Pete was about to touch him. They both knew what would happen if he did. Vegas couldn't be trusted with reacting like a normal person, embracing the affection Pete sometimes pretended wasn't what he was giving him.
Vegas wasn't the only hypocrite between them.
"Hey," Pete whispered, lowering his body to meet Vegas' eyes. "I'm back."
Vegas sniffed loudly. The distance between them was unbearable. "I haven't heard your voice in days."
"I couldn't call. Porsche was basically glued on me during the whole mission. He's... still trying to adapt to this."
"Fuck him," Vegas said, no actual anger found in his voice.
He could barely see Pete in front of him. The light in the corridor illuminated parts of him, outlining his hair, his soft cheek, parts of his lips.
Vegas needed to kiss him so much. To forget the days Pete was absent, to pretend it was from before they truly knew each other.
"I missed you," was what came out of his mouth in the end, so raw it made him gasp.
That was when Pete touched him, wiping the tears that started rolling again. "I know," he said, soft, like the way he had told him he was following his heart back at the hospital.
He didn't say it back. Vegas convinced himself it was true regardless.

(on a very personal level I am amused and annoyed by the argument "people were fine with Memoir of Rati" when that is in fact the show I've been boycotting - while I took the time to make sure I was watching I'm The Most Beautiful Count legally)
#and this isn't about me or wether or not that is the Correct choice or whatever#but it is about the fact that people did take issue with mor#enough that i heard about the brownface in the first place and decided i wanted nothing to do with it

It is in part the nature of serialized works, but the number of times I'm The Most Beautiful Count has one of our heroes smile serenely and say "this time for sure our struggles are over" right before everything goes to absolute shit is simply beautiful.

Frankly any discussion on itmbc the series and colorist choices is complicated by the fact that in the visual novel Kosol's skin tone seriously vary from panel to panel.
(Sometimes it's because the scene takes place in a dark room or at night, or because the artists is going for a whashed-out effect to signify intense sunlight, but then sometimes we have scenes at night or in dark rooms where the characters' skin isn't especially darker, and personally I don't think the washed-out effect lands very well visually.)
#i think it's good that a conversation is being had but imo the issue is a bit more complex that many people on both sides have been saying#i'm the most beautiful count#<- i'm tagging this because i like to find my stuff but if you're tired of hearing about this but still want to follow the show's tag#i can add a tag to filter#just anon me or something
