#IndependenceForWhom #FredrickDouglass was the first to introduce me to the idea of who was really freed on the #July4th. I really try to keep the peace on these Western civilization so called holidays but they disgust me. I think about the years of my youth and how ignorant I was to the struggles of my ancestors. The USA lies to us and hides sooo much information. #IndependenceDay is not for me. The racism and bigotry I experience today makes me question the true obtainment of freedom sometimes. I use to not know if I believed in freedom. Today feel as if freedom is fleeting. I get feelings of freedom. But the systemic oppression produced by slavery always hinders my ability to breathe for long. It's as if I'm in this unstable relationship with freedom. I've been juggling with it and trying to wrap my head around it for years. I refuse to outright say I don't belief it exists, but I do know that I'm biting at the bit to feel contentment in knowing that I'm free. Freedom is such an ambiguous term. I want to know how to define it some day. I can't lie and say I 360 understand it. The more I age the more I question will I ever feel free? My life experiences keep making feel trapped, enslaved in a way. Mentally enslaved. Nahh... emotionally enslaved. I am a melanated woman and the world doesn't respect my existence. Society seems my worth minute. I struggle to find long term peace because life spits on me and tramples my entitlement to respect and autonomy. I honor my ancestors for all that they endured. I ask for guidance on my journey. This world doesn't love us and it makes every day a struggle. A battle with PTSD and when I express myself as I am now...which I hardly do because I feel triggered by so many memories. Flashbacks of traumatic experiences that I just want to cry. But today if I cry...they are a radical tears for my #ancestors. They don't recognize what y'all had to endure but I want to let them know they're not forgotten!!
