I know I did...the wrong thing. But I told you, I don’t want you to go. / Why? Because I fix your problems for you? / No. Because you’re present. Because...if you’re there, I feel safer. Because we can argue, but...if you say that I’m wrong, I trust it. / Yeah, “i trust it”, but then you do what you want anyway.

DRAKE
Standing next to my window, I admire the Roman ruins of the Palatine hills as the royal train rolls into Rome. I’ve always loved Italy, but something about this trip is getting to me. It might be the woman occupying the cabin next to mine. It might be the fact that my best friend is almost as crazy about her as I am. Almost. He can’t possibly care for her the way I do. I down the rest of my glass and pick up a simple shirt and a pair of pants for tonight’s banquet. Fuck the black tie.
Since O’Brien came back to court, I tried to avoid her as much as I could. As a result, I’d cut off a leg tonight just to lay eyes on her again. I crave her like a drug. I spent the last few days debating with myself, and each day I grow a little more desperate, my arguments growing wilder and less probable by the minute. “Maybe” is how every single thought began, each one borne of desperation. Maybe I can make Liam understand that I’m crazy about the woman he loves. Maybe he’ll understand that I’ve been lying for months. Maybe Alexis will realize that she wants a quiet life with me. It’s a weakness on my part; I just need to get through this banquet without giving into it.
Thank God there’s a bar. I’m going to need something to make this experience tolerable. I grab a whiskey and drink half of it before I even head to my table. I’m halfway there when my eyes meet Kiara’s. She’s been leaving me flirty messages since we built the barn to celebrate Liam’s engagement. She’s a beautiful and smart woman but I couldn’t be less interested.
“Come with me,” she says, pulling at my elbow. “I saved you a seat.”
At that very moment, Lexie walks in. She’s wearing a red silk dress that matches her lips, pours over her curves, and reveals only a hint of cleavage while allowing you to imagine what you can’t see too fucking easily. Her hair falls over her shoulders and down her back, highlighting her long neck and her gorgeous face. As always, I seem to settle on her mouth. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen her wear red lipstick before, and, for some reason, this opens an entire box of fantasies. I want to see it soiled. To kiss her so hard that neither of us can breathe. To pull back and find that mouth ajar, panting, the lipstick a red blur around the edges., I want it so badly I’m not sure how I’ll get through the goddamn night without having it. My hands sliding that silk dress over her head, learning every inch of her the way I’ve dreamed about for months. Except right now, Lexie’s eyes are fixed on the point where Kiara’s arm is linked with mine, and her expression—sad and wounded—is like a knife to my chest. I step away from Kiara, grabbing my drink and draining it. “I’m sitting with Maxwell and Olivia,” I tell her firmly.
“Doesn’t Lexie look gorgeous?” Max asks. My eyes move across the room again. Her red dress shimmers, sticks on her curves. `
“She looks like she needs more clothes,” I complain.
“Olivia helped her choose that dress,” Max says with a brow arched. “It fits her like a glove.”
“Yeah,” I reply. “That’s sort of the problem.”
My gaze is still on her, though. Moving up from her hips to her waist to her breasts, back up to that mouth of hers. I picture it again; the lipstick smeared, her breathless under me. And then a single hand cups her hip bone, visible through the thin silk, and I’m ejected from my fantasy at high speed. My lust transforms into rage in a single breath. Fucking Signore Francesco Lombardi. When everyone finally takes their seats, I discover that she and Francesco are at the table on the other side of mine, giving me a painfully direct view of the two of them. Whenever she stands, his eyes are on her, devouring her. He paws at her when she returns, jumping to pull out her chair but managing to get his fucking hands over approximately sixty percent of her body when he does it. And if he tries to look down her dress one more time, I’m definitely taking him out. I don’t give a fuck about our diplomatic relationships with Italy. I go to the bar again and ask for another glass of Macallan. Tonight it’s either get drunk or completely lose my shit in front of hundreds of witnesses. Pretentious food and great speeches are given out that I don’t notice. She is more real to me than anything in this room or out of it, the only thing I can see. No one knows her fears like I do. No one knows how fragile she really is, how deeply sweet. How funny and smart and kind. But I know. And for all the fighting we’ve done, there aren’t two people in this room as made for each other as the two of us. My world is constructed entirely of rules about what I owe Liam –my education, my career, and so many other things. But somehow, it excludes the only thing that matters to me. Her. If it weren’t for how Liam feels about her, she’d be here with me tonight. I watch her say something to Liam, and he nods, his eyes telling her how he feels. Jealousy runs through my veins.
“Enough,” I say quietly as I stand. I don’t know what possesses me to follow her. I know, with every bone in my body, that I have no claim on her. But I saw that look in Liam’s eyes, the one that says he’ll do anything for her, and I found myself on my feet. She’s halfway down the hall by the time I reach her. She looks over her shoulder warily when she hears me, but she is too late. I’m already there. I grab her elbow before she has time to react and pull her into an empty office. She stiffens and pulls back, ready as always to fight. Eyes flashing and hands on her hips. Seething before I’ve even said a word. “You have no right to—” That’s when I cup her jaw and capture that mouth I’ve longed for the whole goddamn night.
ALEXIS
His mouth comes down on mine, demolishing my pathetic attempt to object. He seizes it thoroughly, with such certainty, as if he’s spent his entire life practicing for this precise moment. His hands raking back through my hair, his tongue finding mine as he presses against me. His mouth moves over my neck, and he groans, a noise of both despair and satisfaction.
“You didn’t want me a week ago, but now you do?” I start to push back, but he holds me tight against him.
“I just don’t want you stuck in a shitty ranch with a poor veterinarian when it all ends. It was never about not wanting you.” I know there are other reasons why I’m supposed to object, but they escape me. I’ve wanted this too long, his hands on my body, my skin pressed against his, and his mouth creating a trail of kisses down my neck. It’s right. I’ve known nothing in my life with such certainty as the fact that nothing in the world matters more to me. His hands move from my hips to my breasts, and then he pulls one strap of my dress down, trailing slow, open-mouthed kisses over my shoulder and collarbone, almost reverently. Nipping with his teeth and soothing it with his tongue. He pulls the dress down to my waist, unclasps my bra with a single hand. He cups my breasts, bringing his mouth to them in the same way, sharp and sweet at once and creating a need in me so intense that it borders on pain. I gasp and arch toward him, submitting entirely as my head falls backward against the wall. He pulls back just enough to see my face. His chocolate eyes are dark now as he searches mine, looking there for something he desperately needs. Permission. He wants permission. As if I’d ever tell him no.
“Yes,” I whisper. “Please.”
“You’re sure?” His voice is gruff with desire. And when I nod, he pushes the dress over my hips and allows it to slide to the floor. His hands follow, skating over my hips, down my thighs, and I stand before him now in nothing but panties and heels. “That fucking dress nearly killed me,” he says, smoothing my skin as he kisses me again. He pushes against me, his shirt against my bare skin, his erection pressed hard to my stomach, a quick pulse there as if he is desperate for friction. He slides his index finger under the elastic of my panties. The moment he touches me, my whole body jolts.
“Fuck,” he hisses, squeezing his eyes tightly shut. “You’re already soaked.” His finger slips back and forth, lightly, in torturous circles before it pushes inside me.
“Oh God,” I whisper, my body bowing toward him. He adds a second finger, and this time his groan is louder than mine.
“Jesus, Lex,” he growls. “You’re going to be the end of me.”
I unclasp his belt and unzip his pants reaching down to pull him from the confines of his boxers. He is thick and heavy in my hands, hissing as my fingers wrap around him, tugging gently.
“Stop,” he exhales after a minute. “I’m not gonna last if you do that, and there are so many things I want to do to you first.”
He pushes my panties down and lifts me up almost simultaneously, turning to deposit me on the table behind us. He kisses me once, hard. “Lie back,” he commands. He drops to his knees, spreading my legs so I’m displayed before him. Suddenly, his fingers are joined by quick swipes of his tongue.
“Oh my God,” I gasp. “Drake … just—”
His mouth and tongue lick and brush and pull, creating flames that begin there and spread all the way to my toes. I try to move, but his free hand clamps down on my thigh, holding me in place.
“I’ve dreamed about doing this every goddamn night for months, Alexis. So let me.”
I can’t even nod in agreement because suddenly, everything inside me is building so quickly that I can’t tell where I am or where I’m going.
“Oh,” I gasp. And then his fingers push inside me and I explode with a cry of ecstasy and surprise, arching against his mouth. He doesn’t pull back, but instead slides his hands beneath my legs and tugs me closer, buries his face to create wave after wave of something I never thought would happen in the first place.
“Holy shit,” I breathe. He leans over to kiss me and when he does, I wrap my legs around his waist, bringing him against me so suddenly that he gasps in my mouth.
“Lexie,” he groans.
“Please,” I whisper. It seems impossible for anyone to be more satisfied than I am now, yet I still need the very thing Drake wants most, the thing he is so sure he shouldn’t give. He looks tortured and pulls back, but I tighten around him, pressing him against me. “Don’t even think about stopping right now.” He shifts his hips just enough that he is pressing right there, not inside me but mere seconds away from it. In a single pulse, he could be buried deep inside me.
“Is this okay?” he asks, his voice tight. “Do we need …”
“No,” I beg. “Just do it. I’m on the pill.”
He pushes in, barely. He’s so thick that already I’m stretched to the point of pain.
“Oh fuck, Lexie,” he whispers. “God, that’s so good. Just give me a minute, or this is going to be over before it starts.”
Finally, he moves once more, going slowly, a low noise deep in his chest as he finally shoves all the way in.
“Are you okay?” he asks between clenched teeth. I nod as I adjust to the size of him, pain still outweighing the pleasure. It’s when he starts to withdraw that the pain recedes as a burst of pleasure sucks the air from my lungs. It feels too good, something so vast and all-consuming it can’t possibly end well. I never finish this way but oh my God… If it were ever going to happen, it would be now. His next thrust is faster, more certain, but he stops entirely at my sharp inhale. “Did I hurt you, baby?” he asks.
“No.” He didn’t hurt me. He stunned me. His strokes come slow and rhythmic then, as he leans over, finding my mouth with the table bracing his weight, his arms taut. “I’ve wanted this for so fucking long,” he says, holding still inside me.
“Keep going,” I beg. “Don’t stop.”
“Patience,” he grins. “You have no idea how hard it is not to come right now.”
I grab his ass and push upward, ignoring his warning, thrilling at the low grunt he makes. “Alexis,” he growls, “goddammit.”
His hips jerk back and then forward, almost involuntarily. It’s all I need. I cry out as it happens again, everything inside me bursting. He thrusts quick and hard, desperate now, and then stiffens with a single guttural noise as he pushes in one final time. He falls against me, his mouth against my neck, his breath warm on my skin. It’s closer than I’ve ever been to another person, and I would like to stay here, just like this, forever. But after a moment, I open my eyes when I realize what we’ve done.
It’s a little like waking from a dream. What the fuck have I done? The best sex I’ve ever had and the biggest mistake I’ve ever made just occurred simultaneously. The guilt and astonishment collide with each other. It was wrong. No matter what other considerations there are, I just slept with Liam’s best friend.
I know I don’t owe Liam anything. I came to Cordonia to see if there was something between us beyond that kiss in New York, and there wasn’t. He’s engaged to Madeleine and I’m hopelessly in love with his best friend. Bu this isn’t about me. This is about Drake.
I just became that woman. The kind of woman that would stand between two brothers. The type of woman capable of breaking a lifelong friendship in a moment of lust.
I know that sooner or later, Drake will resent me, us, if he loses Liam. Somewhere inside, I knew that, but because I wanted him and was jealous of Kiara, I chose to ignore it. He looks up at me, and his smile fades.
“What are you thinking?” he asks. There’s dread in his voice. His jaw hardens. “You regret it.”
“Drake,” I sigh, nestling in his chest. “It’s not that. It was…amazing. I just need to figure this out.”
“Figure what out?”
I bury my face in his neck. I don’t want to be having this conversation with him. I wish there was a way he could just hold me and take me to his cabin and work this all out on my own later. But there’s not. “What happens next. I mean, it shouldn’t have happened. We both know that. Liam… “
“No,” he snaps, pulling away. “Do not bring him up. Are you really going to let the way it might look to everyone outside this room dictate whether or not it’s okay? This is about us, Lexie. No one else.”
Except it’s not everyone outside this room. It’s him. Until a week ago, Drake was determined to push me away. He didn’t want to betray his best friend. He told me over and over again that he wasn’t that kind of man. That he would never forgive himself.
I let my need obliterate every reasonable thought, as usual. And in doing so, I’ve let myself down and—far worse—I may have put Drake’s friendship with Liam at risk. I pull away and grab my dress and bra off the floor.
“We have to get back out there before someone notices we’re gone.”
He buttons his shirt. “So you want to go back and continue flirting with Liam like this didn’t just happen?” he asks.
.
It’s right then, at that precise moment, that I realize that no matter what happens, Drake and I will never be together. Liam will always be there, between us. Right now, in our post-orgasmic bliss, Drake is not thinking straight, but I know what he will be telling me tomorrow morning. Or at least how he will be feeling. Guilty.
“I can’t do this anymore.” I take a deep breath to calm myself. “So what matters most is that we both get through the banquet like nothing happened.”
“And then what?” He growls.
His anger doesn’t scare me. “Can we please just get through the next hour?” I ask. “Liam is out there. Olivia, Max, Kiara are out there. The most important thing either of us can do right now is to act like nothing’s wrong.”
He fastens his belt and moves to the door, his jaw rigid. He’s doing what I asked, but I hate that he’s leaving mad. I’m doing this for him. I don’t want him to lose the only relationship in his life that matters to him. “Drake, wait—”
“For what?” he demands. “I just fucked you on a table, and now you’re sending me on my way. What more could you possibly need to add to that?” With those parting words, he crosses the door and walks out, leaving me heartbroken.

Synopsis: A figure from Alicia’s past turns up, and Liam learns why his wife has never spoken about her family before. (I wrote most of this on my phone so please forgive any errors)
Tumblr media
“So, everything is all set for the trip to Italy next week?”
Alicia nodded as she scrolled through the reports on her laptop, barely looking up at her husband who sat opposite her on his own laptop at their kitchen table, “Francesco is expecting us at dinner once we arrive.”
Though they both had secretaries and several members of staff in charge of their scheduling, they liked to take some time once every few weeks to sit down and go through their calendar together so that they could arrange the things that the staff wouldn’t do themselves. A weekend getaway to their cabin in Lythikos; a wedding present from Olivia, or a simple date night; something they promised themselves at least once a month, even if it just meant cooking pasta and watching a movie.
“Do you think slipping into a red dress will sway his opinion like it did last time?” he smirked, glancing over his screen at her.
She met his gaze with a raised eyebrow, “Darling, I’m seven months pregnant. I don’t slip into anything anymore. So no, there will be no slinky red dress. I will just have to charm him with my winning personality and whatever soccer stats I can remember.”
“You might want to call it football if you want to win points with him,” he pointed out.
“Hush you,” she stuck her tongue out at him before she turned her attention back to her screen.
There was a brief knock at the door to the royal apartment, and Bastien stepped in.
Before Alicia could even lift her head to smile in greeting, his next words sent a chill through her.
“Your Majesties, there is a Mr Chase at the front gate asking for entrance.”
Without a thought, her hand went to her bump, clutching it protectively.
A frown crossed Liam’s face immediately, “I don’t know anyone by that name, and I’m certainly not expecting anyone today. My love, are you…” he trailed off when he saw the look in her eyes, “Alicia, are you alright?”
She ignored him, keeping her eyes focused on Bastien, “What does he want?”
“He didn’t say specifically, my Queen, he was asking- well, demanding, to be let in so that he could speak to you,” he said, “We were going to send him away, but…”
“But what?” Liam frowned, “Who is this man?”
“He’s insisting that he is Queen Alicia’s father,” Bastien said.
“I see,” she nodded slowly, her voice quiet before she stood, “You may let him in. Have a meeting set up in the drawing room in the east wing. Ask the kitchen to prepare a simple tea. Very simple. I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
“Of course, Your Majesty,” he bowed his head slightly then turned to leave before she called after him.
“Actually, Bastien, have the kitchen prepare the best afternoon tea they can in ten minutes. To show our guest true Cordonian royal hospitality.”
“I’ll have it arranged,” he nodded once again and left.
With Liam still watching her with a confused expression, she strode across the room to the bedroom, heading into their shared walk-in closet. As she began to rake through the rails of clothing, Liam followed her in, leaning in the doorway.
“What is going on?” he asked.
“Apparently I have a meeting in ten minutes,” she said, yanking an outfit off of the hanger and stripping her clothes off quickly to redress.
“With a man claiming to be your father?” he raised an eyebrow.
She shimmied herself into her floral skirt, focusing her eyes on buttoning up her white blouse, “He is my father.”
“You… you’ve never mentioned him before,” he said, keeping his tone neutral despite his confusion and frustration at his wife’s behaviour.
She grabbed a pair of soft pink shoes from her shoe rack and slipped her feet into them, “There wasn’t ever anything worth mentioning. I haven’t seen him since I was seventeen years old.”
“I see.”
She pulled a pink jumper down on top of her blouse before setting the look off with a jewelled necklace that Liam had given her, “Don’t worry, this won’t take long. He never hangs around long enough to make it worth my while.”
“Alicia-” he started to say but she brushed past him, bending over her vanity for a moment to apply a quick layer of lipstick and a brush of powder before heading back out into the main room. He followed her out, catching hold of her hand when she went to pick up her phone, “Talk to me.”
“I don’t have time for this right now, Liam,” she said, her tone hardened.
He had never seen her like this before. He had seen her upset, and he had seen her angry, but this was something else entirely. He could see a deep-seated rage behind her eyes, but there was a quirk to her expression that told him that this was something she had been dealing with for a long time. She had never spoken about her family to him. She had mentioned her mother a few times, but never any siblings and certainly never a father.
“Look at me,” he said softly, his grip loosening as her eyes met his, “Whatever is going on, whatever you need; I am here for you. Always.”
She let out a quiet sigh, “I know. Just hearing you say that means more than you can know. And I promise, I will tell you everything, but right now, I need to go.”
He nodded, “Okay. Just… Text me if you need me.”
Without another word, she turned on her heel and walked out of their apartment. With her shoes clacking loudly on the stone floors, she made her way across the palace towards the east wing.
Once she reached the door to the drawing room, she paused and took a deep breath. Mara, who had been guarding the door, glanced at her.
“Queen Alicia, would you like me inside with you?” she asked.
“Just for a moment or two, if you wouldn’t mind,” Alicia said.
“Of course, whatever you need, my Queen,” Mara gave a brief nod and opened the door for her, entering quickly behind her.
Alicia’s eyes fell immediately on the man sat on one of the elaborate couches, staring awkwardly at the tea and cakes that had been prepared and served on elegant silverware. It almost made her smile to see him so out of place.
If there was one thing she was grateful for in her life, it was the fact that she looked nothing like her father Andrew Chase. She had taken her dark hair and olive skin from her mother, not the thinning blonde that sat atop his pale head. He had dressed in an ill fitted and mismatched suit. She knew that that was likely his attempt at effort.
He turned when he heard the door open and a smile spread across his face.
“Alicia?” he was on his feet in a flash and rushing towards her, “My god, it’s been so long, you-”
He opened his arms to hug her, but all it took was a slight nod and Mara was stepping in front of her, blocking his path.
“I suggest you take a step back, sir,” Mara said calmly.
He stopped in his footsteps, looking between his daughter and her bodyguard, “Oh… right… Yes.”
Alicia glanced at her, “Thank you, Mara, that will be all. You can wait outside.”
“Of course, Your Majesty,” she gave a stiff nod and stepped out of the room.
Alicia stood, hands held behind her back as she looked at her father, “So… long time no see, Dad.”
“Too long,” he sighed, “I can’t believe how much you’ve grown.”
“That’s what happens when you don’t talk to your daughter in over nine years,” she reminded him.
“You’re angry,” he noted, retaking his seat on the sofa, watching her as she sat opposite him.
“Oh, I’m far past angry,” she told him, taking hold of the teapot and pouring hot tea into both cups, “I haven’t had the energy to be angry at you since I was a teenager. I’m just confused as to what you’re doing here.”
“I wanted to see you.”
She let out a hard laugh as she added cream and sugar to hers, stirring it gently, “And it has nothing to do with the fact that I live in a palace now?”
“Of course not, I…” he trailed off as she raised an eyebrow at him, “That’s how I found you. You’re all over the papers back in the States; the New York waitress marrying the foreign prince. I heard the stories, but I didn’t-”
“King.”
“Excuse me?”
“I married a foreign king,” she said simply, taking a sip of her tea, “So you saw my face in the papers and decided to just drop by? You didn’t think to call or write first?”
“I didn’t think you would reply.”
“Fancy that,” she mused, setting her tea down and gesturing to the extravagant cake stand, “Apple tart? The Cordonians do love their apples.”
He met her eye, then nodded to the tea set, “Is this meant to show up your father? Flaunt your wealth? I’m half surprised you didn’t serve me water and a crust of bread.”
She smirked slightly, “Believe me, it was tempting. But I didn’t want to give you the satisfaction… So. You flew all the way out here. You put my security team in a tizz. What do you actually want?”
“I told you; I wanted to see you.”
“To see me, or the wealth I’m supposedly flaunting?”
He shook his head to himself, “You’ve always thought the worst of me.”
“Because you never gave me a reason not to,” she said, “Did you expect me to jump into your arms and forgive you for everything just because you showed up here? One spontaneous, and unwelcome, visit doesn’t make up for everything you’ve done.”
“Perhaps not, but it’s a start,” he sighed, “Look, Alicia, I know I’ve been an asshole in the past-”
“That’s an understatement.”
“But I’m trying to make amends. For not being there for you when you were a kid, for letting your mom raise you alone. After you left for college, I thought I would never see you again. But then I saw you in the news, and then you were married and now you’re having a baby, I just knew I had to see you.”
She watched him for a moment, taking a mouthful of tea, “Let’s hypothetically say that I believe you, that’s it’s all true and you really have come to see me out of the kindness of you heart, what now?”
“Well, for one; I’d like to meet your husband. All I’ve heard is that he’s a royal. He has to be some guy to steal your heart… Though I suppose the crown and the castle are a pretty sweet deal,” he cracked a smile, but she met it with a glare.
“I didn’t fall in love with Liam because he’s a king,” she said, “I fell in love with him because he’s a good man; the best man I’ve ever met.”
“Well you certainly must have enthralled him to propose to an American girl with no noble heritage.”
“That doesn’t matter to him. It never did. I had to prove myself to the court and to the people, but never to him. He loves me. And don’t you dare think otherwise,” she snapped.
He chuckled to himself, “You always did have a quick temper. It was a joke, don’t worry.”
She continued to glare at him. How little he really knew her. He was the only person she ever lost her temper with. Even through everything that had happened in Cordonia, with the engagement tour and the scandal, even the assassination attempts, she had kept her cool, no matter how much she wanted to shout and scream.
“So you want to meet Liam,” she said quietly, “Then what?”
“Then I’ll obviously we can make arrangements for me to visit more so that I can visit my grandchild.”
At that, she couldn’t hold in the laughter that bubbled out of her, “You have to be kidding, right?”
“Why would I joke about that?” he frowned, “You’re my daughter. Your child is my grandchild. I want to be a part of their life.
“You think you can just show up back in my life after nearly ten years and expect to suddenly be a family?”
“Alicia, please-” he started to say but she cut him off.
“Why the sudden interest in my baby’s life? Have your other children back in Michigan not given you grandkids yet?” she challenged.
“You… You know about them?” the frustration dropped from his face, replaced with utter confusion and a hint of defeat.
“I’ve known about your other family since I was fifteen. I wanted to surprise you for your birthday that year, so I saved up all of my allowance and whatever money I got from running errands and took a coach to find you. I got the address from some old mail in your apartment. I walked right up to your front door the day of your birthday to surprise you and heard voices from the backyard. When I went around, I saw you there, with your wife and your son and other daughter, all laughing as you had a lovely barbeque and a big cake, living your fucking perfect little white picket fence life,” she snapped in anger.
“Alicia-” he reached his hand out to take hers but she pulled away sharply.
“Don’t touch me,” she hissed, furiously blinking back the tears that were welling up in her eyes, “That’s why I told you that I never wanted to speak to you again. Not because of your other family, but because you never told us; because you lied. You were my favourite person when I was a kid. You would show up out of the blue and take me to the zoo and let me eat ice cream all day. But you weren’t there for the times when I needed you. You weren’t there at my first soccer game, or the time I was lead in the school play. You weren’t there taking photos of me when I went off to my first school dance… You weren’t there when Mom died. You didn’t even come to her funeral. I had to come home from college and arrange the funeral all by myself. I kept thinking one day you would walk through the door like you did when I was a kid. You would walk in and you would give me a hug and you would tell me that everything would be okay. But you didn’t.”
“Alicia, I-” he began to stammer but she held up her hand to silence him.
“I don’t want to hear your excuses. You have no idea what I have been through to get where I am today. But I did it. And I did it without you.”
Before either of them could say another word, there was a gentle tap at the door and Alicia rose to her feet, “Come in.”
The door opened slightly and Liam stepped in, dressed in his pale blue shirt, waistcoat and trousers; an outfit he knew she loved. His sleeves were rolled up and his hair a little messy, just a touch of casual to put his wife at ease, but formal enough so that no one could mistake his commanding presence.
She crossed the room to greet him, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
“I heard raised voices, I wanted to check you were okay,” he said quietly to her, wiping away one of her stray tears with his thumb, his other hand going to her bump.
“Thank you,” she whispered, “It’s just… difficult, seeing him after all this time. I can’t tell if he really is trying to turn over a new leaf.”
He brought her hand to his lips and kissed it, “I’m here. Whatever you need.”
She took his hand and turned them both to face her father, “Dad, I would like you to meet Liam. Liam, this is my father; Andrew Chase.”
Andrew was on his feet promptly, eagerly taking Liam’s hand before he could offer it, shaking it vigorously, “It’s an honour to meet you finally.”
Liam offered him a cool, charming smile that Alicia had seen him give various dignitaries, “The honour is all mine.” He gestured back towards the couches, “Please, sit. I see the staff have prepared quite a wonderful tea, it would be a shame to let it go to waste.”
“Quite right,” Andrew nodded, retaking his seat as Liam and Alicia sat opposite him, all busying themselves making tea and chewing awkwardly on apple tarts.
A silence set in between them all for a few moments before Andrew broke it to ask the real story about how the couple met, and whether the reports of assassination attempts at their wedding were true or simply overexaggerated American media. Liam did most of the talking, Alicia sitting there quietly as he spoke, lightly tracing her fingers over her bump. She felt the nudge of a soft kick against her palm and it kept her grounded, settling her mind as it still raced over the hundreds of possibilities as to why her father was really here.
“So, I know it’s not common knowledge in the news yet, at least not worldwide, but are you guys having a boy or a girl?”
That question snapped her back into the conversation and she sat up slightly, “Only our closest friends and family know. Most of the staff don’t even know. It’s better that way. It lets the press have their field day with polls about what we’re expecting, and it doesn’t land any scrutiny based on our baby’s gender.”
“Oh,” he said quietly, “Right…”
Liam glanced at her awkwardly, but she took a sip of tea, looking at her father over the brim of the cup, “And it’s kept under such tight wraps so that no one sells the story to the press.”
“Alicia!” her father gasped, “I would never-”
“Oh please,” she scoffed, “You have never turned down an opportunity to make a quick buck. How much money did you ‘borrow’ from my mom? All of your hairbrained business schemes and investments. One of them must have worked out, your suburban dream house was pretty nice.”
“Alicia,” Liam said quietly, laying his hand over hers.
She let out a shaky breath, collecting herself before looking at her father, “Look… We have had our ups and downs, to put it mildly. I was clearly the product of your affair during work trips to New York. I can get over that. I can get over the fact that you never told me about your other family, or the fact that they probably don’t know about me either… But you’re the one that walked away, so I’ll hope you understand when I don’t trust you or your intentions anywhere near my family.” She stood, “I’ll have someone prepare a room for you. We’ll talk more later. For now, I need to go and lie down.”
She left the room before anyone could say another word, marching back towards the royal apartment. Liam was quick behind her, following her into their bedroom where she curled up amongst their mass of pillows. He kicked his shoes off and joined her, wrapping his arms around her from behind to hold her safe against his chest.
They lay together in silence for a long while, their hands laced together across her bump, legs tangled together. Liam began to wonder if his wife had fallen asleep, but she eventually spoke.
“You must think I’m such a bitch,” she said softly.
“Alicia, you are a bitch and I love you for it,” he murmured against her ear as he tucked her hair out of the way, “And given the circumstance of what I’ve gathered from my brief meeting with the man, I can see why you’re so sceptical. I’m beginning to understand why you never mentioned him.”
“I never thought I’d see him again. Especially once I got here. It was easy to just pretend he didn’t exist,” she admitted, “I certainly didn’t need my past examined by the press, and I didn’t want any chance of feeling obligated to contact him.”
“What happens next is your decision,” he told her, “There is no obligation for you to keep him around. I’ll escort him out myself right now if you want.”
“As much as I would cherish the sight of you kicking my father to the curb outside of the palace,” she hummed with laughter, “I need to know if he really has good intentions. If I deny our baby a chance at a grandfather because of my own daddy issues, I’ll never forgive myself. I… I know what to do.”
She rolled over in his arms, pressing a kiss against his mouth before clambering out of bed. She told him she’d be back, then headed out of the apartment after grabbing something from her desk. She found her way to the room that someone had arranged for her father. She knocked a few times, and he quickly answered.
“Alicia,” a small smile wavered on his face.
She stepped inside and he closed the door behind her. She took a deep breath to steel herself then looked at him, “I’d like you to stay. For a few days. Nine years is a long time. Perhaps people can change. I may never truly forgive you for leaving the way you did. But in a few months time you are going to be a grandfather.”
She handed him the copy of her last sonogram. He held it, looking down at it with wide eyes, “Is this…?”
“That is your granddaughter. We’re going to call her Lyra.”
“Lyra,” he said softly, “It’s a beautiful name.”
“I need to get back, I have a meeting this afternoon. But I’m hoping you’ll join Liam and I for dinner,” she offered.
“I- I would be honoured,” he stammered, barely lifting his eyes away from the sonogram.
“Then I’ll see you tonight,” she said and quickly left. She muttered a few words to Mara as they made the walk back to the royal apartment, and her bodyguard gave a quick nod and left her once she knew she was safely inside.
Dinner that night was tense to begin with. Liam had attempted to ask questions about Andrew and what he did for a living, but he had simply muttered something about his own business before diving into his own questions about the baby, asking every detail he could about her pregnancy and any plans once the baby arrived.
Alicia answered his questions with an enthusiasm that Liam hadn’t expected. He watched as she chatted excitedly about the nursery decorations and their plans for the birth announcement and even telling him the middle names they had planned and who the godparents would be; something that they hadn’t even told their closest friends.
But it warmed his heart to see her with an actual family member for once. It had upset him greatly that she’d had no one close to her personally to invite to their wedding, only her friend Daniel from work. Perhaps this was a real opportunity for their family.
Later that night, once dinner was over, they sat together on the couch, Liam typing up notes for their meeting with Francesco next week, Alicia reading a book, propped up against a number of pillows.
She had been quiet since they got back, but he put it down to the emotional rollercoaster of a day she had been through. And yet, he couldn’t help but notice that she kept checking her phone.
“Expecting a call, my queen?” he asked quietly.
“Honestly… I don’t know,” she told him, “I-”
She was cut off by the sound of her own ringtone. She answered it quickly, muttering a few ‘rights’ and ‘okay’, before saying that she’d be right there and hung up.
“Alicia what’s going on?” he frowned.
“Just… stay here. This won’t take long.”
She stormed out of the apartment, finding Mara waiting for her outside of her father’s room once she arrived.
“Your Majesty, would you like me to handle this?” she asked.
“No, this is something I need to do myself.”
“Of course,” she nodded.
Without a second to knock, Alicia entered her father’s room, not even surprised when she saw him furiously tapping away on his laptop that was set up at the desk.
“You son of a bitch,” she hissed as she slammed the door closed behind herself.
“Alicia!” he leapt to his feet, knocking the chair over in the process, “What- what are you doing here?”
“Did you really think I wouldn’t find out?”
“Find out what?”
“How long did you wait before you tried to sell everything I told you about my baby to the press?” she asked.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he insisted.
“Do you think anything happens in this palace without me knowing about it? I’m the fucking Queen of Cordonia! Did you really think that you could just send off a few emails to the tabloids without anyone noticing? This building has one of the best security systems in the world. No communications make it outside the walls without pre-approval. Your emails bounced back to my bodyguard personally.”
“Alicia I can explain-”
“I knew you weren’t here for a heart warming family reunion! Why do you think I told you everything?”
“You set me up!”
“No!” she yelled, “You don’t get to stand there after sending every piece of information about my baby girl, along with her sonogram, to the press and then accuse me of setting you up! You made that choice!”
“Just let me explain!”
“Fine. Go ahead. I’d love to hear this,” she waved her hand, stalking over to stare out the window, her arms wrapped around herself to stop him from seeing her shaking hands.
“One of the papers reached out to me. They did some serious, probably illegal digging, and found out that I am your father. They badgered me for information about you and the baby. And when I couldn’t give them anything, they offered me money. Big money. Money that I couldn’t turn down. So I came out here. I thought… I thought maybe it would be a chance to reconnect with you. I could send off a few things to impress the papers, and I would get you back in my life,” he sighed.
“How much money?” she asked quietly.
“What?”
“How much money did they offer you?”
“Ten grand flat rate. More if I could get a copy of the sonogram. Twenty if I could get a name,” he admitted.
“And then you thought you could just keep coming back, keep selling information about my daughter. Get a family and make some money while you’re doing it,” she rested her head against the cool glass for a moment.
“Look, whatever you think of me, know that I really did want to be back in your life. I… I don’t have much in the way of family anymore.”
She turned to face him with a scoff, “Why? Can’t your white picket fence family stand you anymore either?”
“As it goes, no, they can’t,” he huffed, “My son Jamie went to college and when he got back we… we fought a lot. So he left. My daughter Cora left with him, went off to med school early to avoid me. My wife stayed long enough to get the divorce through and made sure I had nothing but the bare bones of the house before she left as well.”
“I’d almost be glad to hear that you’re not just a shitty father to me if not for the fact that you’re a bastard and you got nothing less than you deserved,” she seethed, “And I’d bet whatever you and your son fought about and he left over wasn’t your fault, hm? It’s never your fault. You can’t just own up to the fact that you would sell me out, you obviously did it because your poor, pathetic ass was left alone.”
A silence fell between them for a moment before he looked at her, “What happens now?”
“What happens now is that I make you an offer,” she said, “I will give you $25,000. That should be enough to cover what you were going to get paid by the press. Should be enough to keep you company without your family at home.”
“Alicia, thank you, I-”
“On one simple condition,” she said, “You take the money and you leave Cordonia tonight. You go back to Michigan and you never step foot in my country again. You never come back, you never try to contact me, you never see me again so long as we both live… Those are my terms.”
“Alicia…” he said quietly as she moved to leave.
She spun back to look at him, “That money… it’s to keep you away from my daughter. I need you to know that. I don’t care what you tell the papers about me, or my life, or whatever story you need to spin to make some money. But the minute this involved my daughter you lost any chance of ever being part of her life… I struggled for years trying to get over the fact that you were never there for me. I thought I would never truly be able to trust anyone again. Those doubts and fears kept me from love for so long. And then I met Liam. And he was so good. Good in a way that you never could be. He has his responsibilities, and his things that keep him away from me, but he always comes back. And I was scared for so long about having a baby, because I didn’t know if I could trust anyone to be a father to my child. Because of you. But he is going to be a better father than you could ever even dream of being. He loves me, and he loves our little girl so much. And I know that no matter what happens in our life, he will never do to her what you did to me. If I can promise my daughter nothing else, I can promise her the unconditional and unwavering love and loyalty of her father. That is what a parent does… Goodbye Dad.”
She left the room quickly, not stopping when he called after her. She told Mara to make sure that he was gone as soon as possible, even if it meant putting him on the royal jet. She sent a text to her assistant to set up the money transfer as she walked back to the apartment.
She closed the door behind her, leaning against it, the cool wood bringing her back into the reality of the moment. She took a deep breath and choked out a wavering sob as she slid to the floor, her tears flowing freely as she cried. She barely even registered the sound of Liam’s voice until his arms wrapped around her, holding her tight as he rocked her and kissed her hair. She clutched to him, burying her face in the soft material of his shirt.
“I’m here,” he assured her quietly, “I’m here.”
And in that moment, that was all she needed to hear.

Bedtime Stories
Author's note: I wasn’t supposed to write this now, but this Liam stan misses Drake, so yeah (lol). Happy Thirsty Thursday! [All characters are owned by Pixelberry studios] Book: The Royal Romance Pairing: Drake Walker x Olivia Nevrakis Rating: E Word count: 1957 Reading time: 8 min Summary: After a party at Jade’s manor, Drake and Olivia enjoy the last night in Valtoria doing more just sleeping.
Tumblr media
A cold breeze hit Olivia's skin as she poured herself another glass of Merlot. She sat on a seating bed at the balcony of Drake's suite in Valtoria, watching the last guests of the party leave the estate. As the lights were turned off, delicate dots of light sparkled in the dark night and she sighed contently.
Walking into the balcony quietly, Drake sat on the end of the seating bed, taking her by surprise. "Oh my! Is the great Olivia Vanderwall Nevrakis daydreaming?"
"Oh, shut up. I was just bored,” she snapped. “Why did it take so long for you to have a simple shower?"
"Well, I had to clean the mess you made on my bedsheets first. Since when do you squirt?"
"It's a little something I learned in the past few years. Don't act like you didn't enjoy it."
"I never said I didn't," he replied with a ghost of a smile on his face.
Olivia took his hand, guided him to the bed and rested her feet on his lap. He reached for them, his thumbs firmly rubbing each one at the time, undoing the notches on the heels, sole and balls. Smalls waves of pleasure spread up her ankles and legs and she bit her lip to suppress a moan. "Why are you spoiling me?"
"Because this will be my bargain chip to get you to do whatever I want," a corner of his mouth quirked up.
"Well played, Walker. But I'll require more than your massage expertise to get me to do what you want."
"All right. What do I need to do to fuck that tight ass and come all over your tits and face?" His eyes went dark as he enunciated each word.
"You can tell about your conquests," a devilish smile crossed her lips.
"I've already told you about them."
"Not with the gory details," she pulled one of her feet away and began to massage it slowly against his crotch.
"You're weird, Nevrakis."
"I never judged your voyeur tendencies and lingerie kinks and I even helped you sometimes. You don't get to judge me for being curious," she replied, throwing her hair back to expose her hard peaks under her black satin nightgown.
Drake inhaled sharply, his blood responding to the stimulation of her foot and racing towards his member. "Okay, what do you want to know?"
"Tell me about Madeleine."
"She's a bottom. She did whatever I told her to do, but she liked to talk back to provoke me, she curses a lot, enjoys spanking and rough sex."
"Hmm... That explains why Leo endured three years with her. But don't mind me, go on."
"She's dirty, surprisingly slutty. Never wear panties."
"Aww... You don't have a souvenir of hers for your lingerie collection."
"I do, actually. Teal organza thong custom made for her engagement party with Liam," he grinned.
"Taking the prize Liam didn't want, huh?"
"He can't think straight when he's in love. He only sees Jade," he rolled eyes.
"You're so right about that. The only night I spent with him, he had spent months on a dry spell because of that stupid Italian girl," she rolled eyes.
"Sir Francesco's daughter?"
"The very same."
"God, that girl was loud."
"Did you hit that?"
"Yup." he smiled slyly.
"While they were dating?" She gawked.
"What?!? No... She came after me during that dinner in Capri. She was all sad and heartbroken because Liam barely said two words besides 'good evening' to her and spent the night talking about politics and staring at Jade."
"You do like to comfort women with sex," she smirked.
"Sure I do. They're needy and horny, I'm a great fuck, everybody wins," he grinned, his fingers making a slight pressure on the bridge of her foot as his member began to throb under his sweatpants.
"Let's see if you're really that good. Tell me about Kiara."
"Ah, Kiara... She is pretty impressive in bed. Great oral skills."
"Really?"
"That little mouth of hers can do wonders. She did everything I wanted, never said no."
"She's in love with you."
"She's pretty mad at me right now."
"Oh, please. If you say want to piss in her mouth, she'll kneel before you and drink your urine as if she's drinking a glass of Barbaresco," she scoffed. "Tell me more about her."
"She likes it dirty. She likes being called bad, slut, getting spanked. I left so many marks on her one night and the next morning Penelope asked her if she was being threatened by someone."
Olivia laughed. "God, Penelope is so clueless. Is she the only girl in court you didn't fuck?"
"I didn't fuck all women."
Olivia stared at him, pursing her lips.
"I didn't. And Penelope isn't my type."
"Why? Isn't she needy enough for you just because she's a virgin? I'm surprised you didn't want to pop her cherry."
"Nah... She's too innocent. Just thinking about feels weird, let alone doing it. Ezekiel can have that."
"Kiara's brother?" She laughed. "Her innocence will remain intact for a long time then."
"How so?"
"He looks like a virgin to me. Probably wanks a lot after he wakes up, feels guilty and goes to the bathroom to shower."
Drake cocked an eyebrow. "Do you always analyze men' sexual behaviors, even if you haven't been with them?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because it's fun. Come on, ask me about anyone."
"Hmm..." he placed her left foot on the bed and reached for the right one, taking it away from his crotch to massage it. "Bertrand."
"You had to go there, didn't you?" She pursed her lips.
"You said anyone," he smirked.
"Fine," she said, placing her left foot on his crotch again and smirking at his growing bulge. "I heard him with a girl in a Beaumont Bash a few years ago. By the sounds of their skins slapping, the furniture moving and the girl's muffled whimpers, it was rough. But he didn't make a sound. Just a few commands in her ear, heavy breathing, low sexy grunts."
Drake shifted uncomfortably in the bed.
"The girl was loving it though. The louder she was, the faster he thrust her. And she kept calling him Daddy."
Drake grimaced.
"And she begged a lot. 'Oh, Daddy, please! Stretch my pussy, Daddy!'" Olivia's mocking voice tone sounded a lot like Savannah's.
"Alright, you made your point." Drake gave her a disgusted look.
"'Oh, yes, Daddy! Fuck my ass too!'"
"Eww! Stop it!" He bellowed.
Olivia cackled. "Just so you know, he was with the Duke of Domvallier's daughter, not Savannah. But I did catch her listening..."
"Liv, for the love of--"
"Okaaaaay!" she lifted her palms defensively. "We can talk about the little brother then."
"Fine by me."
"You know he banged Adelaide, right?"
"I think everyone in court knows. The woman can't stop chasing him around."
"He always acted like he didn't like it. But what if I tell you he does?"
"Oooh... Did you hear them?" Drake grinned.
"Better. I saw him with an older woman and he called her Adelaide several times."
Drake's jaw went slack.
"He had this woman bent over on the desk study at the last Beaumont Bash. A lot of hair pulling, breast play, some choking. And he's big."
"How big?"
She gestured with her hands the approximated size.
"Damn..."
"Yeah."
"Now tell me about the people you did hook up with."
"Well, Leo is--"
"Leo?" He pulled back surprised. "I thought you were going to talk about Neville, or Tariq, or the one night stand with Liam."
"If you want me to be wet for you, I can't talk about the lousy fuck I had with those two. And I know you want to know how Liam is like, but I'm saving the best for last," she teased.
Drake rolled eyes, but his hands continued to massage her foot. "Go on."
"Sex with Leo is breathtaking. His body is amazing, he's versatile, so I could be top and bottom with him. He let me finger him, he likes choking, impact play, sensation play, exhibitionism. He'd be the perfect sex partner except for the fact that he dislikes loud sex," she curled up her lips in a snarl.
"Aww... He broke your heart with that, didn't he?"
"Ugh..."
"No one is perfect, Liv."
"Liam is. Even heartbroken and slightly drunk like when we hooked up, he was just to die for. Perfect body, great Dom, excellent dirty talking, capable of giving orals until dawn, he likes sex toys and roleplays..." she sighed.
"You do remember your perfect sex partner already found his perfect sex partner and he's going to marry her soon, don't you?" Drake pointed out.
"Details..." She waved her hand dismissively. "Wait, how do you know she is his perfect sex partner?"
"The real question here is how don't you know? Everyone knows because they do it anywhere! Literally. If you go somewhere and the Cordonian Royal guard is blocking the entrance, it's because Liam is in there fucking her. She's loud and he loves it, she encourages his kinks, they're in love. They're like the poster couple for romantic porn," Drake mocked.
"Do you still listen to them, don't you?"
"Even when I don't want to."
They laughed.
"Man, I need to switch rooms with someone who doesn't sleep next to theirs," Drake jested.
"Switch with me."
They laughed louder.
"So, are you ready, Liv? Because you know I am," he said, taking her foot from his stiff bulge and kissing her toes one by one.
"Mmm... Almost," she murmurs. "We forgot somebody."
"Who?"
"Hana," she smirked.
"She's a virgin." His lips were pressed into a thin hard line.
"But she's not innocent like Penelope. She is one of the closest friends of the horny future queen and they like to have those sleepovers to watch stupid romantic movies and talk about sex. Plus we both know good girls are the dirtiest ones."
"Olivia..."
"Indulge me and I'll do whatever you want." She crawled on the bed to sit beside him and one of her hands slide down his stomach and under his sweatpants, fishing his stiff member out of it.
"Alright," he said, closing his eyes for a moment, relishing the firm and thrilling touch of Olivia's hand around his cock. "Hana is a slender woman, but she takes advantage of her delicate form while she enjoys the touch of her own hand running through her body. She knows how to please herself in different ways because she does it a lot more she would ever admit. And she loves it."
His breath quickened as Olivia's hand move up and down his shaft and the memories of Hana flood his mind. "She loves touching her wet pussy, making her clit swollen from humping her pillows-- Shit, that's so good!"
"Keep talking, Walker," Olivia purred.
"Hana is quiet, but her soft moans can reverberate in your mind for hours. She gets off thinking about people she's close to. Jade and Liam, Maxwell, Kiara and--"
"And you."
"Yeah... God, I'm so close," Drake threw his head back and closed his eyes.
"Tell me how she finishes."
"She rolls on the bed, moving back and forth on the pillow between her legs," he stopped talking as his breath caught. "She pinches her nipples an-- Fuck, I'm coming!"
"Continue."
"She comes all over the pillow, her body trembles, slick with sweat--Aaah!" Drake clenched his fist on the bedsheets, his seed spreading over his abs, his legs, and Olivia's hand.
"Was it good to come with Hana?"
"It was-- what?"
Olivia laughed. "This was very informative."
His face went pale.
"Gee, Drake! If anyone else saw your face right now, they'd think you have a crush on Hana," she smirked. "Now, snap out of it and fuck me with your tongue."
Drake cleared his throat, positioned his head between her legs and lowered his voice. "Yes, ma'am."

Drake's Diary ch.18 - Italian Nights
The Royal Romance from Drake's POV
Drake x MC (Emma)
Words: 4639
The Engagement Tour arrives in Italy! Some secrets may be revealed, and Drake and Emma get some time alone
Tumblr media
Liam and Madeleine’s engagement tour had officially kicked off, and Drake has been on a train heading for Italy. The trained finally arrived at their destination, and it was time for dinner. Drake was starving, and he was glad they were about to eat a meal. Or at least, that’s what he’d thought they were doing.
He’s standing off in a corner of the fancy restaurant, sipping his whiskey and scowling at the so-called appetizers. This crap is not food. That tray literally has toothpicks of eggplant. Who serves toothpicks with a single slice of eggplant? It’s a crime against humanity.
He sees Emma enter the restaurant with Hana and Maxwell, pausing for photographs. He was surprised to see her in a simple pink dress. He figured she would have gone all out to impress some Italian guy everyone was raving about. Drake always tuned out, so he wasn’t even exactly sure who he was or why he was important. He only remembered the name, Francesco, and that he was considered a big deal.
Adelaide taps her glass and asks everyone to take their seats, but Drake was not leaving his corner. I’m so out of place
As Madeleine thanks everyone for coming, he notices Olivia strutting over to Emma’s table. Huh, I wonder why she’s here. Last I knew she ran off and no one had heard from her.
After “dinner” Drake finally sees both Francesco, Bertrand, and Maxwell leave the table. He wanders over and sits down.
“I thought you’d never stop talking to that Italian guy.”
Emma grinned. “Awww, did you miss me?”
He shrugged. “You’re preferable to standing alone in a corner.”
She laughs lightly. “Clearly a high bar.”
You have no idea
Drake smiles fondly at her, “Yet so many fail to clear it, except you of course.” He and Emma just sat there grinning at each other, their seats close, bodies almost touching until…
“Just…Just adorable, you two.”
Drake turned his attention to Olivia. “What are you even doing here Olivia?”
“Helping Emma.”
Drake rolled his eyes. “I’ve seen your kind of help. We’re better off without it.”
“It’s good to see you too, Drake.” Olivia responded sarcastically, glaring at him.
“She’s actually helping. She’s sincere, Drake.” Emma said gently.
He scoffs. “Sincere in her cruelty.”
Emma places her hand on his arm. “We met up earlier because she’s looking for the blackmailer too.”
Drake side glances her but doesn’t say anything. Right. Because Olivia is just such a good person, she’s willing to help with no strings attached.
Olivia agreed. “I was targeted just like Emma. We have the same enemy.”
Drake sighs. “If Rose’s okay with it, then fine. But I’m watching you.”
“Don’t hurt yourself” Olivia snapped.
“So, did you find anything?” Emma asked.
Olivia nodded. “I’ve been following a lead. During the social season, someone tried to sell a pack of photos with Emma and Liam in New York to the tabloids.
Drake’s jaw dropped. “How do you know about that?”
“Don’t sound so surprised. I’m the Duchess of Lythikos. I get what I want.”
“But Bastien and I bought the photos back before they were published. How did you find them when no one else did?”
“The details aren’t important. We’ll leave it at that.” She narrowed her eyes.
Emma broke in, “So, does this mean the person who sold Drake the photos is the same person who had the photos taken of me and Tariq?”
This time it was Olivia that rolled her eyes. “Don’t be dense, Emma. If I knew the answer to that, we wouldn’t be here having this pointless discussion.”
Drake glowered. No one talks to my Rose that way. I mean…just Rose. No one talks to Rose that way.  “No need for insults here, Olivia. We want to get to the bottom of this as much as you do.”
Ignoring him, Olivia continued. “I think that whoever sold the photos could have a connection to the person who blackmailed Emma and me.”
“That’s…a possibility. But unless you have something to show us, we’re no further in this investigation than we were before we started talking to you.” Drake said with a huff.
Olivia smirked. “Funny you should mention that. As a matter of fact, I have a copy of those photos with me. And I think I have a hunch about who took them. But I want you two with me on this.”
“Why didn’t you tell me about this on the train?” Emma asked
“Because somebody forgot the meaning of come alone.”
“And I don’t count?” Drake asked, confused.
“You’re not a threat.” Olivia said simply.
“Sure.” He frowned. But I’m still human, bitch.
Olivia turned back to Emma. “Besides, I said I’d find you when I had more information to share, and here we are. Are you going to help or not?”
“I’ll look into it with you. Emma doesn’t have to get her hands dirty with this.”
Olivia jeered. “Please. Emma’s a big girl. She can take care of herself.”
“We don’t know where this lead will take us, and Emma could still be a target.” Drake argued.
Emma’s eyebrows rose. “The dignitaries can wait. If she has new evidence, then I want to be there to see it.”
No, Rose, don’t get involved…nothing can happen to you, I don’t know what I’d do.  “I don’t want people going after you because we overturned the right rock.” He said, worriedly.
Emma grinned and bit her lower lip, causing his eyes to drop down and making him wish he could kiss that lip. “I think I’m good, but I love the concern, Drake.”
He stares at her a moment, then lets out a long sigh. “Alright, there’s not much use protesting.”
Olivia was glancing between the two of them, the corners of her mouth turned up knowingly. “Good.” She lays out several photographs on the table. “These are copies of the images that were sold to the tabloids.”
“So, what’s your hunch?”
She starts pointing at photographs. “Look. In this photo, you can see Drake and Liam. Here’s you and Liam. Blah blah blah. What’s interesting is in this photo, way in the background, you can see Tariq. So, you know what that means? There’s only one person who’s not in a single photo. Maxwell.”
Emma shakes her head in disbelief. “That means the only person who could be the photographer is…”
“Maxwell.” Drake finished. He didn’t miss Olivia rolling her eyes at them. Okay, so we also finish each other’s sentences…friends do that. Just friends totally do that, and all the time. Just because no one else around here has never finish…
“Maxwell? We’re jumping to conclusions. Maybe there’s an explanation.” Emma suggested.
“There’d better be.” Drake returned from his thoughts.
“Whatever you think of him, he needs to be questioned.” Olivia spoke.
“Agreed.” They look over to where Maxwell and Bertrand confer in the corner of the room.
“Let’s get him.” Drake immediately stood up, fists clenched, ready to deck Maxwell if he was behind this. When the three of them arrived, Bertrand gave them a look.
“Excuse us, we’re discussing important matters here.”
Maxwell nodded. “I know I’m holding up the tiramisu, but we’re almost done here. Oh, hey, are we bringing Olivia with us too?”
Drake glares at him along with Emma and Olivia.
Maxwell’s eyebrows furrow. “Why are you all looking at me funny? Is it a staring contest? I’m game. Grr…I’ll beat all three of you.” He pretended his hand was a claw, reaching for them.
“Maxwell…How could you?” Emma asked him, sadly.
“We trusted you.” Drake chimed in.
“I trusted me too…what did I do?”
Olivia holds the images up in Maxwell’s face. “You took these.”
Maxwell smiled. “Thanks for citing your sources. Those are my pictures from the bachelor party in New York. I actually like that one. I’m not much of a photographer, but I gave that one a nice Dutch angle.”
“I can’t believe you!” Drake exclaimed.
“Did I do something wrong?” Maxwell asked, clearly confused.
“You’re connected to the blackmailer.” Olivia accused.
His eyes widened. “What? I would never betray Emma.”
“Maxwell, this doesn’t look good. I’m not saying you betrayed us but this…it’s bad.” Emma admitted.
Maxwell’s eyes shift between the three of them. “This is serious…I can’t hide it any longer. I took the pictures because I was going to make a scrapbook of all our time spent together…There. The surprise is ruined.”
“Then why sell them to the tabloids!” Drake fumed.
“That wasn’t me! I could never do that!”
“You can, and you did!” Olivia jutted her finger in Maxwell’s chest.
“You betrayed Liam! You betrayed Emma! You betrayed all of us! We trusted you.” Drake couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Maxwell, of all people. The one who sponsored Emma in the first place, was a traitor.
“No! I…I…”
“Stop! Please. Stop.” Bertrand cut in. “If you would please direct your ire away from Maxwell. The indiscretion in question is mine and mine alone.”
Drake turned his eyes toward him. “Meaning…”
Bertrand took a deep breath. “I was the one who sold the photos of the bachelor party to the tabloids.”
Maxwell looked at his brother in shock. “Bertrand! No! Why? How could you do that to Emma and Liam?”
“Yeah. Explain yourself.” Fucking Bertrand. Shoulda known that stuck up self-righteous…
“There is no excuse for what I did, but the reason enough was simple…money. Most nobles didn’t think Lady Emma would last a week…I was one of them. Here I was facing the terrible reality of having agreed to sponsor a failure of a candidate…House Beaumont’s last chance at being restored to its former glory would be ruined, and it would be on my shoulders. I decided to salvage what I could and sell any material related to you, the photos in question being the only thing I could find.”
Maxwell shook his head. “Bertrand…you went through my phone.”
Bertrand looked at him pleadingly. “I was doing research, all in the name of saving House Beaumont. But…I betrayed you, Maxwell, my only brother, my own flesh and blood. Father would be ashamed if he knew.”
“Bertrand...You sold me out!” Emma cried.
He nodded sadly. “I did. There’s no excusing it. If it means anything at all, and I don’t suspect it does…please know that I’ll never forgive myself for this. For what I did to you.” Bertrand gazes out over the shimmering city. “If it’s any solace, I can only say that this was before…Before I knew you. Before I saw that you had a chance here at court. Before I…before I began to believe in you.”
“Another mistake by the oh-so-illustrious Duke of Ramsford.” Drake spat.
Bertrand sighed. “It would appear so. Lady Emma, I do not believe my actions are worthy of your forgiveness…Even so, let me extend to you my most sincere apologies.”
“Mine too.” Maxwell told her.
“No, Maxwell, you had nothing to do with this. The blame is mine to shoulder. Emma, I know it’s too much to hope for your forgiveness, but I’d at least like to offer my continued services. My misconduct has no relation to the cretins who so wrongly hurt you. I may still be some use in helping you uncover your true enemies here.”
Emma glared at him. “I won’t forget this, but I still need your help.”
“And you shall have it.” Bertrand readily agreed.
Drake’s eyes found Emma’s. “I guess at least we know the truth.”
Olivia scowled. “Yes, and now that it’s clear this little revelation isn’t related to either of our blackmailers, I’m leaving. Hopefully, the next lead I find will be more fruitful.”
Emma patted her arm. “Olivia, we couldn’t have done this without you”
Ugh, I can’t believe I’m about to say this but… “You were actually…helpful” Drake muttered.
“Don’t make much of it. We’re allies of convenience.”
“We’re still allies.” Emma shrugged.
A small smile crossed Olivia’s features. “Yea, we are.” She walks away from the group and disappears into the crowd.
I think it’s best if I also take my leave now.” Bertrand bows to everyone and leaves.
“I’ll take that tiramisu now. A lot of it.” Maxwell said sadly.  As they head to the dessert table, they spot Hana.
“The night’s starting to come to an end!” She leaned closer and whispers “Did you find the woman who took the photos of you and Tariq?”
Emma sighed. “Not yet.” She looks across the crowded restaurant. “But you can bet I’m going to.”
Drake’s eyebrows furrowed. The photographer is here? How have I not seen her?
“Well, we have to go join the other ladies, Emma.” Hana leads Emma away, and Drake retreats back to his original corner.
Drake glances around. Courtly life seems glamourous, but he knew the reality of it. Each noble is trying his or her best to impress and dazzle. They smile and laugh, but the smiles never reach their eyes. Just try to remember, most people can’t tell if you’re faking it, and that’s because they’re faking it too. He recalled Hana saying earlier. Cheers to that, Hana.
After a bit, Drake hears Maxwell raise his voice “Lady Emma, there’s…something I need to say to you.”
Heads started turning their direction, Drake’s included.
Maxwell continued grandly. “Tonight, I discovered something about myself. Something I suppose I’ve known was true for a long time, but…I couldn’t admit it to myself until now. There was always something missing, some piece of me that wasn’t there. But then…then something unbelievable happened. Tonight, I realized what has been missing.”
He gets down on one knee, and a crowd of paparazzi begins to form around them.
What the hell…? Is he fucking…
“And it’s like my eyes are opening for the first time!” He said dramatically.
“I don’t understand” Emma was looking down at him, being equally loud.
Drake’s eyebrows furrowed. They’re up to something. What are they up to, and why didn’t she tell me?
Maxwell cleared his throat. “Emma, now that I know, I need the world to know.”
Emma’s hands flew to her mouth. “Maxwell, what are you saying?”
“I’m saying that I love…” He reaches into his pocket and the crowd gasps, cameras flashing.
Are you fucking kidding me right now?
He pulls out a spoon. “Gelato!!” He grabs a bowl from the platter of a nearby server and eats a spoonful, eyelids fluttering in delight. “Sho derishish!”
What the…
“Haw have ah lived wivout you for sho lon?” Maxwell sighed in content.
“I’ve never seen a love so pure.” Emma laughed.
The paparazzi groan in disappointment as they begin to disperse, and Drake watches as Maxwell and Emma take off through the crowd, following someone…The photographer!! That’s what they were doing!!
He let out a breath he had no idea he was holding. That was…why is my heart pounding…it was a good show, it was so believable…it was too believable. Damn it, why did she not tell me? I could have done the proposal.
Drake groaned loudly, drawing looks from a few people around him. The fake proposal. I could have done the fake proposal. Damn it, Walker, it’s not like it would’ve been a real one. I can’t even imagine…
They disappeared from view, and Drake slowly walked back to the train, angry with himself for wishing he had done the proposal. She’ll never be yours. It’ll never be real.
After spending some time in his room stewing and chastising himself, he realized his stomach was rumbling. That’s right. I never ate.
Drake slides the door open…and bumps into Emma. “Rose!”
“Oh, hey, Drake. Where are you going this late?”
“To get a real meal. I don’t know about you, but I don’t ‘get’ fancy food. That stuff was designed to impress my eyes, not actually feed me.”
Stop talking. Do not continue, and definitely do not…
“You’re welcome to join me to whatever place I find” He rushed out.  “But be warned, after tonight, I’m in the mood for something with a Michelin rating of zero stars. If that doesn’t bother you, then I can promise a full stomach and decent conversation.”
Oh my…do you hear yourself? You were literally telling yourself not to invite her out, and then proceeded to invite her out. Idiot.
Emma smiled slyly at him. “You mean you’ll actually tell me more about yourself?”
Drake let out a laugh. “Whatever secrets that’ve made it this far, sure.” Cuz there’s basically none.
“I’d love to. I could use a bite to eat.”
His heart fluttered. She said yes!  “Right this way then”
She follows Drake out of the train car. He leads her through the lamplit streets and jumps into the first open restaurant. The alluring aroma of fresh tomatoes and spices compliments the cozy hole in the wall atmosphere. A kind, middle-aged man walks up, and offers a menu and a table to the two of them.
“So, this is more your style?” Emma asked, glancing around.
Drake nodded. “A menu, a small table, and the promising smell of good food. That’s all I want.”
The man speaks to them in Italian, and Drake starts stumbling over his words. Crap. We’re actually in Italy. He speaks Italian.
Emma smirked. “Didn’t think through your plan, did you?”
“No, no. I’ve got this.” He turns to the man. “Spaghetti and pizza.”
The man smiles and nods, then disappears into the kitchen.
Emma rose an eyebrow. “Drake…you forgot the lasagna.”
“You’re right. My vocabulary’s too limited.”
“I’m disappointed in you.”
“We’ll just have to make do.”
Once again, he found himself holding her gaze and grinning from ear to ear. She’s just so fun.
After a moment, she spoke again. “So, do you do this often?”
He nodded. “This isn’t my first time going rogue. When you follow Liam around, you end up in foreign lands pretty often.”
“And in fancy parties with too-fancy food?”
“All the time.” He grimaced.
“Well…Now you’ve got me for company.” She winked.
And I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. But play it smooth. “That means more pressure not to make myself look like a fool.”
“Ha! You could never not make yourself look like a fool to me.”
“Gee, thanks Rose.” He laughed
She just shrugged. “Hey, you don’t have to worry about looking like a fool if you already are one.”
The waiter delivers a mozzarella pizza and two bowls of peppered spaghetti carbonara to their table. Drake smiles and nods to him. He returns the smile before leaving them alone. Drake takes a bite.
“That’s exactly what I needed. Simple, delicious, and filling.”
She rolls her fork into the hot spaghetti. “Mmmmmm….that is good.”
“You can always trust me to find the right food.” Or just trust me.
Suddenly, she looked at him cunningly, eyes intense. “So…Is this a secret date?”
Drake sputtered on the sip of water he had just taken at that moment. “What??”
She smirked. “A nice meal at an Italian restaurant you invited me to.”
“I…I invited you for food. Because I thought you were hungry. Normal people eat when they’re hungry. And you’re a normal person, so am I and…”
“I’m okay with it.” She cut in, still smiling.
“I…err…You’re killing me, Rose.” He wipes a streak of pasta sauce from his face. Of course she thinks it’s a date…I mean, she has a point…
“Hey, I just realized something. We didn’t have to dodge any palace security guards to get out here. Do they just let you come and go as you please?”
Well. Guess that moment’s over…Why do I feel disappointed?
“I’m nowhere near as important as Liam.” He told her. “But Bastien also knows me. He knows I can take care of myself…and you.”
“Really? Bastien trusts you?”
“Yeah. Don’t sound so surprised. We kind of go way back.”
She clapped her hands together. “Story time!”
Walked right into that one. “…I didn’t mean for this to turn into some sharing circle.”
“Too late.” She sang out. “You already tipped your hand. You’re usually much more careful than this, Drake.”
“Hmm…what is it about tonight that has me in a sharing mood?”
“Maybe the company?” She hinted.
Drake tries to hide a smile but fails. “I want to give you a hard time, Rose, but the truth is I’m just so damned glad to spend some time with you away from that circus…”
Shouldn’t have said that.
“Drake…” She started leaning towards him, so he quickly started talking.
“So, I’ll tell you. Bastien was my father’s junior agent in the King’s Guard, so I’d see him around pretty often. Bastien didn’t have any family at court, so he’d join us for dinner. He’d even watch me and Savanna sometimes when we were younger.”
“That’s cute. How was he as a babysitter?”
“Surprisingly lenient. The opposite of how he is while on duty. He’d let us eat chocolate chip cookies and watch cartoons all night.”
“Aww” She cooed.
Drake rolled his eyes. “He and my father were close. I think after my father died on duty, Bastien took it upon himself to look out for me.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” She frowned.
“It was hard, but I got through it.”
“Tell me more about your father.” She requested.
I’ll tell you anything, Rose. “Tough, honest, with a firm but fair way of handling things. Growing up, it seemed like there was nothing he couldn’t do.”
She smiled softly. “You really looked up to him, didn’t you?”
He nodded. “Yeah…If Savannah idolized the courtly life, I idolized him and the King’s Guard.” Drake winds and unwinds noodles around his fork, lost in thought. “So, yeah. Dad died. Mom eventually went back to the US. She was…struggling. Bastien was as present as he could be, but his duties kept him busy. I stayed at court with Savannah. Liam’s family kind of took us in.”
“Huh. Actually…Drake what do you do at the palace?” She asked curiously.
“I…I do lots of things! I do things all the time!”
“Like?” She pressed.
“Er, well, it’s hard to put into a single title.”
She tapped her finger to her chin thoughtfully. “How about…Trusted Companion?”
Drake shuddered. “Kinda makes me sound like Liam’s dog.”
“That wasn’t how I meant it!” She laughed.  “But don’t dodge the question.”
“Really, what does it matter?” I don’t want to tell you. It’s embarrassing. Stop asking.
“Come on. I want to know what you do on an average day. It’s not all sulking at noble’s parties, is it? If that’s all there was to it, I know you…you would have left a long time ago.”
“I did leave…for a while.” He admitted quietly.
“Really?” She asked, surprised.
He nodded sadly at the memory. “When I got older, I thought it was time to make it on my own. I went to college.”
“You didn’t want to join the King’s Guard?”
“They’re experienced security agents. I would’ve had to cut my teeth protecting some stuck-up nobles first. I decided to build a life away from court. Liam and I started to drift apart. I was finally living in the outside world, and he was busier than ever being introduced at court.”
“What happened?”
Drake sighed. “Well…there was an assassination attempt on the royal family, including Liam.”
“No…” She gasped.
“The King’s Guard stopped it before anyone was injured, but it still shook Liam.”
“He never told me about this.”
Why the fuck does that matter? I’m telling you. Am I nothing?
He narrowed his eyes. “It doesn’t really come up in a casual conversation. Besides, I don’t think he wants to remember those times…it was rough. He seemed fine to most people, but his brother dropped by my campus one night in the family’s private jet asking if I could come back. He was worried about Liam. Behind closed doors, Liam was not himself. He wasn’t eating, and he was growing distant. I knew I had to be there for him. Thigs were bad…he needed me.”
She took a moment to let things sink in. “Wow…It must’ve been hard to give up your outside life.”
She…cares about that? But the story…it’s about Liam. Wasn’t it?
He continued speaking. “He’s my best friend. I had to do it. After that, I never really left. When I saw how things were at court for Liam, I knew I couldn’t leave him to these sharks. Liam plays the game well, but his heart’s not in it. He’d rather focus on the needs of the Cordonian citizens than reading press statements and attending parties. He needs someone cynical like me to have his back.”
He stares at the table for a moment, lost in thought, and she reaches across the table and puts her hand over Drake’s. “You’re a good friend to Liam.”
Drake smiles at her halfheartedly, his eyes sweeping over her face hungrily. “…most of the time…”
Except for when you’re around. A good friend definitely doesn’t have these kinds of thoughts about the girl his so called best friend is falling for.
She presses herself against him, tilting her face up, kissing him sweetly, catching him off-guard.
“Rose…” He breathes.
She touches his check, then grips his neck, pulling him closer for a deeper, more passionate kiss.
He grinned against her lips. “You’re full of surprises tonight”
Emma chuckled lightly. “You can’t just take me to dinner, pour your fluffy marshmallow heart out, and not expect me to fall a little more for you Drake.”
Falling for me??
He couldn’t take his eyes off her. “You’re right. What was I thinking?” He sighs, his lips brushing hers once more until they hear footsteps. The middle-aged man from before delicately slides a check on the table and bows.
Emma smiles at him. “Well. Thank you for a wonderful evening. I never thought I’d learn so much about the elusive Drake.”
Drake rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “Yeah, sorry, it was a lot to drop on you all at once. Let me cover it.” He takes the bill and gets out his wallet from his pocket, before noticing her staring at him.
“Did you just offer to pick up the check?”
Why is that surprising? I’m a gentleman. “Well, yeah. I guess I did. It’s the least I can do after talking your ear off all night. I’m not the king or anything, but I can afford a handful of euros, Rose.” And I’m not broke either.
“Sharing your feelings didn’t bother me…I like this softer side of you.” She told him.
Drake groaned. “This is my lowest low. What have you done to me, Rose?”
“Nobody said it was bad that you’re soft.”
He rolled his eyes. “Yeah, well, at least the sob story didn’t bother you.”
“It could never bother me.”
“Thanks, Rose. We should probably head back. It’s getting late.”
“And I’m full!” She announced happily.
“What did I tell you?” He grinned, opening the door for her. Arriving back at the train, they said their goodbyes.
“Hey, Rose, thanks for coming with me tonight.”
“Anytime, Drake.” She gave him a winning look. “By the way, when I asked if this was a date…just so you know, the fact that you also picked up the check, and held doors open for me…that sealed it. This was definitely a date. A really good one.” She winked at him, and walked off, leaving him staring behind her, blushing furiously.
Alright, alright. I guess…that was our first date then. And all good first dates include a kiss. He gently brought his fingers to his lips, remembering the softness of hers. As he went back to his own car for the night, he couldn’t wipe the smile off his face if he tried.
Falling for me. Huh.

[When they made me understand that my lifespan was not that long, the first thing that came to my mind, the very first thing I saw in my mind was] the s***tily way you have to put things on the shelves. [...] [But I didn’t see just that.] I saw you on your bicycle each and every morning [whether there was the sun, the rain, the snow, the wind, the coldest weather.]  I saw your miserable house, your messy family...your yellow jacket with you inside it. And the thought that I wouldn’t have seen you again, that I wouldn’t have seen your bulls**it anymore...it devastated me. The most beautiful thing, though, was that when I saw you...my ear...my ear didn’t hurt, the tinnitus was gone.

Due to the time that the court arrived at Kiara’s estate, everyone just headed to their rooms to settle in for the night. Once Riley reached her room, she showered then changed into her nightwear, as she pulled her shorts up there was a gentle knock at her door. She smiled to herself guessing who it was, she headed over to open the door to be greeted by her fiancé, King Liam
“hey” she whispered drowsily as she made her way over to the bed, sitting down at the end, pulling her feet up under her.
“Hey, are you okay?” He asked concerned as he sat beside her wrapping his closest arm around her.
“yeah, I’m just not feeling too great”
Riley whispered as she leaned her head on his shoulder. He gently placed his palm on her head
“you feel a little warm” he sighed
“Mmmm”
Riley mumbled as she started to doze off on his shoulder
“Do you need anything?”
he whispered as he ran his hands through her hair.
“no, I’m okay, thank you” she yawned
“Why don’t we get you to bed” he whispered as he reached behind him and pulled the duvet back then turned and lifted Riley like a princess before putting her into bed, he covered her with the duvet “I’ll come back and check on you in a few hours” he whispered then placed the most gentle kiss on her head.
“Goodnight Liam” she whispered
“Goodnight sweetheart” he smiled before leaving the room closing the door behind him.
The next morning, around 6 am Riley was woken by a loud knock on her door.
“go away” she mumbled tired from her rough night’s sleep. She groaned as she heard the door open then slam shut.
“How are you still in bed? You should have been up hours ago to prepare!!!” Madeleine nagged.
“Madeleine…its 6 am…the sun isn’t even up yet”
“Not the point! Get up! Meet me in the boutique in 20 minutes!” She demanded before walking out of the room, slamming the door behind her.
“Why…why…why” Riley mumbled tiredly as she climbed out of bed keeping the duvet wrapped around her, she was heading over towards the closet where her robe hung when she suddenly felt the urge to throw up, she dropped the blanket and ran towards the bathroom instantly dropping to her knees before emptying her stomach.
An hour later Riley lay on the Sofa in her room exhausted. She had been down to meet with madeleine to decide on her outfit for the event, she was going to meet with her again later to prep her for the day, she closed her eyes for a moment trying to take her mind off of the sick feeling. She was startled by a knock at her door.
“who is it?” she called
“Its Liam”
“you can come in its fine” she replied. Liam walked in closing the door behind him, he walked over, instantly kneeling beside Riley on the Sofa placing his palm on her cheek.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” he asked
“Exhausted” she sighed “sick”
“maybe you shouldn’t go to the art exhibit” he worried
“no! I’m going, I’m sick not dead, I’ll be there” she whispered
“are you sure?”
“100%” she smiled weakly
About 30 minutes later, Riley had gotten dressed and been prepped for day. Once she was ready she headed down to the sitting room to meet with Liam so that they could go to the gallery to make sure everything was set up and ready, whilst she waited for Liam she sat talking to Kiara’s Father about past exhibits they had done. Their conversion was interrupted when Francesco came running into the room Panicked.
“Francesco what’s wrong?” she asked standing to her feet immediately. He took a shaky breath as he ran his hands through his hair. “I went for a walk to the gallery just to make sure everything was going okay…but there’s been a terrible disaster!”
“no, no, no!” she whispered to herself before calling Liam and their friends down whilst Francesco caught his breathe.
“Riley said there was an emergency. What happened?” Liam asked panicked
“The gallery…the whole floor has been completely flooded!!...and it was no accident!!”
“You think it was sabotage? But who would do something like that?” Hakim asked
“I bet it was the attackers…this is just the kind of event they would target!!” Riley sighed
“Wasn’t Bastian investigating a ‘sons of earth’ group?” Hana asked
“He thought they might have been connected to that video…but the investigation didn’t turn up any useful leads” Liam sighed
“If not them then who?” Hakim asked
“The liberal core perhaps. If they saw this event as a rallying point for the people…”
“That’s all the invitation they would need to ruin the party!” Drake finished Liam's sentence.
“I’ll have the kings guard secure the area at once!” Liam stated
“In the meantime, we must cancel the festival” Francesco sighed
“There are representatives from over a dozen different countries here. I promised them a chance to showcase their work…but I suppose I’ll have to let them down” Hakim frowned
“Maybe we don’t have to cancel” Riley thought out loud
“Perhaps I haven’t conveyed the full extent of the flooding…” Francesco stated confused
“No, no, listen…we can spin this as an art installation! We can say it’s an interactive piece…about the rising tide of Cordonia's future!! Despite the turbulent waves of fortune, we sail on toward a brighter tomorrow!”
“That’s exactly the kind of message Cordonia needs to hear right now!” Liam smiled
“I can help spread the word…maybe a hashtag!!” Maxwell walked away talking to himself.
“The more exclusive it sounds the better!” she called after him
“Okay…plan of action…I will change out of this lovely dress into some other clothes and head down to the chateau to start clearing it up a little, drake…you need to go with Olivia and pick up rain boots…different colours…bright! Liam…-”
“I will start making some calls!!” He smiled
“Hana…we need Banners…”
“On it” she smiled as she walked away.
“Hakim…keep those guests occupied!” Riley smirked
“Francesco…”
“Yes?”
“…breathe…just make sure that where ever your help is needed you’re there!” she smiled
“Okay…we have 5 hours…let’s go!!” Riley smiled as she watched everyone disperse everyone except Liam. He just stood and looked at her smiling. Once everyone was out of the room he took her hand in his.
“Are you feeling any better?” He asked
“A little…but I’m still exhausted” she sighed
“Are you sure you should be doing this?”
“Yes” she smiled
“You don’t even know how proud of you I am…you handled that like a true queen” he smiled.
“I was brought up to make do with what you’ve got…these are the cards that were dealt to us…now we must use them to our advantage”
“I love you so much” he smirked before kissing her
“I love you to…now go! March!! On the phone!!!” she giggled as she shooed him out of the room. she headed to the kitchen where she found some cleaning supplies that she would need. Once she had everything, she headed out to the chateau with Mara on her tail.
by the time it hit 1 o’clock Riley headed back to the estate to change then she met Liam outside to head down to the gallery. Once they reached the door, they were handed a pair of rain boots each, they quickly pulled them on then stepped inside. As they entered the building Liam gasped.
“Riley…this place looks…you wouldn’t think that this wasn’t supposed to be here” he whispered the last part as he smiled
“You’ve done amazingly!” He added before pecking her lips.
“C’mon let’s go have a look around” he smiled as he squeezed her hand, they started looking around.
Once the guests started to leave, the stalls and merchandisers started to pack their things up.
“Are you ready to go?” Liam asked smiling
“No, I’m going to stay and help them clean up…this was more than all of us bargained for including the staff here”
“Are you sure? You weren’t feeling too good earlier, are you feeling better?”
“No but I don’t want to leave the staff to do it all, they’ll be here all night, I know what it’s like when your left to clean up after everyone, the more help they get, the better” she sighed
“Would you like me to stay?” He asked smiling
“Yes, but you can’t you have a meeting in 30 minutes” she smirked before leaning in and pressing her lips to his
“I’m sorry” he chuckled
“Its fine” she giggled
“You better go, I don’t want you to be late”
“Okay I’ll see you later?” He smiled
“Maybe” Riley giggled as she gently kissed him then waved goodbye as he left.
*3am*
After getting all the water out, getting the place dried as much as they could, and just generally getting the place cleaned and locked up it was hitting 3am Riley headed back to the estate where she was met with darkness, everyone but Mara and herself were sleeping or at least in their rooms.
“I’m sorry for keeping you up till this time Mara” Riley Apologised
“Don’t worry about it” Mara smiled. Both women headed upstairs to the bedroom, as they came to Riley's door they stopped
“Thank you, for keeping me safe” she smiled
“No need, it’s my job”
“Yes, but it’s a job that has your put your life in danger for someone else, so I look up to you for that” she smiled causing Mara to smile
“thank you...your grace..Okay…goodnight your grace” she bowed slightly then headed away, “good night Mara” she replied, once she was in her room she changed then quickly washed her face and brushed her teeth then she headed to Liam's room next door, hoping he would still be awake.
Riley quietly opened Liam's door to see the room in darkness, she could just make out his shape on the bed, she smiled to herself then closed the door, tiptoeing over trying not to wake him then she lifted the duvet and climbed into the bed, lifting his arm so that she cuddle into his chest then he instinctively wrapped her arms around her.
“What time is it?” He mumbled…crap.
“Its 3 am go back to sleep” she whispered
“I wasn’t sleeping…I was only half asleep” he whispered
“Is something wrong?”
“No, I was just waiting for you to get back…what happened? How are you just getting back?”
“We were removing all of the water and getting the place dried…we didn’t want anything happening to the artwork from the moisture in the room”
“Ah I see…you know you and I could get into trouble for this” he smirked
“I know but…I’m so tired and madeleine is going to be banging on my door at 6 am so I’m hiding out here…no funny business I just want to sleep, I’m sick and I’m tired”
“6am?” He asked, “why is she getting you up at 6am?”
“She always does…she says “I can’t believe your still sleeping its 6am…I can never understand your commoner ways” I sighed
“She’s just jealous she lost the crown” he smirked “there’s no need to be up at that time …I’m the king and I don’t get woken up until 8am, I’ll speak to her” he whispered before pecking her head.
“Did you enjoy the festivities?” He asked unknown to him that by this point Riley was already fast asleep when she didn’t reply he looked down at her confused
“Riley?” He called then he realised she was sleeping.
“Poor thing” he whispered sympathetically as he held her tight “get better soon” he added before he fell asleep.
 *6:10am*
Riley was woken up to madeleine knocking on Liam's door well knocking isn’t really the word for it…the door was nearly off the hinges.
“Riley? I know you’re in there!”
“Lady Madeleine! The king doesn’t get woken up until 8! He won’t be happy if you wake him!”
“She’s in there isn’t she!” She retorted to Bastian
“That doesn’t matter…that’s no longer your business!”
“Let me past!” She replied loudly
“No…you can’t go in!” he stood tall.
“Bastian!! Let Me Past!” She emphasized every word. As her voice got louder Liam started to wake up.
“What’s going on?” He mumbled
“She found me” Riley whispered still half asleep cuddled into him. “I’m sorry for bringing her to your door” she sighed
“Hey…don’t ever apologise…this isn’t your fault” he leaned over and kissed her head “go back to sleep…ill deal with it” he climbed out of bed, he pulled a t shirt on and some lounge pants then he walked over to the door. Once he threw it open she shut up quickly.
“Duchess Madeleine WHAT is the meaning of this?” he scolded
“Your Majesty” she whispered taken back as she slightly bowed her head. “I apologise I didn’t mean to wake you” she clamoured
“Well you did! What is it?” he asked annoyed
“I’m looking for Lady Riley…”
“I think you mean Duchess Riley and she’s sleeping…hiding from you actually so that she could actually get some sleep she came here last night so that you wouldn’t wake her up…its 6 in the morning madeleine!”
“Your Majesty I understand that, but she needs to be prepped about-”
“No madeleine…she can be prepped when she wakes at 8 o’clock! Can I ask you something?”
“Of course,”
“What time did you return from the festivities yesterday?”
“Umm…10 o’clock like everyone else” she looked confused
“No madeleine not like everyone else… Riley didn’t return until 3 am this morning because she refused to leave until all of the water was gone and the art was secured…she stayed there all night to help clear up and to make sure no harm came to any of the paintings”
“Well isn’t that the cleaners jobs?”
“And that madeleine is exactly why Riley will be the better queen…she doesn’t see the world the way that you do…the ways she sees it is…she is just like anyone else it’s not below her to help in a disaster!! She isn’t well at the minute and she still refused to leave until everything was done…she needs to rest…from now on she will not be woken until 8am…she can be prepped then…she isn’t stupid… she spends her free time learning about what she needs to know…if you want her to be a good queen…she has to have the energy to do it…you can’t expect her to go on only a few hours’ sleep and still do her best…she can’t do her best if she can’t focus because she’s tired.”
“I know your trying to do your job madeleine, but you must be considerate of other people”
“Now…I’m a very busy man…I only get so much time to sleep…may I return to my room?”
“Of course, I’m sorry I woke you” she whispered then bowed before walking away. Liam closed the door then let out a sigh on his way back to bed. He climbed under the duvet, wrapping his arms around Riley, causing her to cuddle into his chest
“thank you, Liam” she whispered with her eyes shut, still half asleep.
“go back to sleep, you need to rest”
“Sweet dreams Liam” she whispered
“Sweet dreams Riley”

Drake x MC (Emma Barnes)
TRR AU: What would happen if Emma loved Drake but had to marry Liam?
Catch up here
Warnings: NSFW
Note: I almost didn’t post this after @ooo-barff-ooo ‘s amazing chapter of Girl Crush, but I knew I wouldn’t have time tomorrow. Enjoy! Let me know if you’d like to be added to or removed from the tag list!
Word Count: 2872
Summary: The court has arrived at Kiara’s duchy, but things for the art festival don’t go as planned. Kiara throws herself at Drake causing some tension between Drake and Emma before their R-rated movie date. Doubts start to creep into Drake’s head just before they find Liam waiting for them.
Chapter 15: A Thousand Years - Christina Perri
Tumblr media
The day we met, Frozen I held my breath Right from the start I knew that I'd found a home for my heart Beats fast Colors and promises How to be brave? How can I love when I'm afraid to fall But watching you stand alone? All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow
One step closer I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you For a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more
Time stands still Beauty in all she is I will be brave I will not let anything take away What's standing in front of me Every breath Every hour has come to this
Emma was up early the next morning, she wandered down to find Hakim and Francesco in a panic. The gallery had flooded in the night, it was supposed to open this morning. Emma texted her friends 911 and they all came down to the sitting room.
“What happened?” Liam was the first to arrive. Francesco explained again, he was sure that it was sabotage. It was the same attackers from the homecoming ball, they were sure of it. Hakin and Francesco began planning to cancel the festival, they wouldn't be able to clear out the water in time, that would devastate all the work they had just done in Applewood to rally the people.
“No. What if we didn't have to cancel. No art was damaged, spin it as an art installation! It can be to raise awareness about the flooding in Portavira. Show that we're united and support the other duchies.”
“It would strengthen morale among the people!” Liam chimed in. Hakim stopped and considered their words.
“How would we pull it off?”
“I'll put it all over social media! An exclusive exhibit available today and here only!” Emma nodded at Maxwell, he began firing away on his phone.
“I'll direct clean up. I'm probably the only person here who knows how to use a bucket and mop.” Drake said.
“We get the worst of the water out and it won't look too messy.”
“If we pass out color coordinated rain boots at the door, we can add to the experience!” Hana had taken color theory lessons and so she was the perfect person for the job.
“This is a great plan but why are you doing this for us?” Emma smiled.
“It's the right thing to do. You're a citizen of Cordonia, we do everything we can do our citizens.”
“Let's get started then!” Hakim hired a cleanup crew, and everyone got to work. A few hours later, Madeleine had Emma meet her at a local boutique. Madeleine was on Emma's case about recruiting Hakim and Joelle even though she was sure they would come since she had just saved their gallery. Madeleine just rolled her eyes and held up an off the shoulder dress with different shades of purple, pink, blue and white that all complemented each other. The dress looked like an abstract canvas. She wore a small, rhinestone necklace to complement the dress, Drake's ring tucked safely away. By the time Emma arrived at the gallery, guests had already begun arriving and Hana had given them a pair of rainboots that matched their outfits better than expected. She joined her friends in the center of the gallery and Drake ran his eyes up and down her body hungrily.
“I… uh...wow.” Drake mumbled unable to form a coherent sentence.
“So, you like the dress?” He nodded.
“It's lovely Emma. Are you ready to address the crowd?” Liam and Emma addressed the crowd and told them that the water installation was an anonymous artist. They wandered through the exhibit themselves, stopping to discuss various paintings. They stopped at an abstract piece and everyone struggled to make sense of it, Drake and Emma, having had no training on the subject. As the others wandered through the gallery, Emma stopped next to Drake and followed his gaze to an “EXIT” sign with glowing green letters.
“What are you doing?”
“Trying to figure out the idea of modern art. Take this for example, it's just a sign that says exit, but what does it mean? Is it saying we all exit life eventually? Is it meant to be a warning?”
“Are you saying you want to get as far away from possible as me?” Emma teased, and Drake playfully rolled his eyes.
“As deep and profound as that was Drake, I think this is just an exit sign.” He frowned, and then sighed as a patron walked out the door just beneath it.
“Whatever.”
“Don't worry, I won't tell anyone.”
“Tell anyone what?” Maxwell appeared behind them silently making them both jump.
“Uuuh how great that painting is!” Emma pointed randomly at a painting. Maxwell smiled and delved into a story known as the Great Ketchup Incident of ‘96. Bertrand approached seemingly out of nowhere, the first time they had seen him in days, handling Beaumont house affairs. He was there only briefly, mentioned that Maxwell was helping with the affairs and then he was gone. Emma and Maxwell were concerned, on top of all his stress, he was trying to mend his relationship with Savannah and Bartie. Emma approached Joelle next, admiring the piece she had completed yesterday when they first met. They had a discussion about what her art meant and how it translated to what she and Hakim wanted for Cordonia. After they all regrouped, they left the art exhibit for the food, needless to say, Drake and Maxwell were quite excited.
All kinds of various smells wafted through the air, spicy, sweet, even sour, it was glorious. Instead of trying everything like Maxwell suggested, they wandered around to try everyone's favorites. Hana got everyone some ash-e reshteh, a Persian dish. It was a savory soup with beans and parsley, the flavors blending together well. Even Drake was impressed. Liam led everyone over to a colorful booth that smelled of various spices, getting everyone some chicken tagine. As everyone ate, Liam and Drake shared the story of how thanks to Leo, it became one of Liam's favorite dishes, sibling rivalry at its finest which escalated into a full blown prank war. Drake was eager to pick the next dish, feijoda. It was similar to chili, a mixture of beans and meat garnished with an orange slice. It was rich and salty with the pork and beef, very clearly a Drake dish. Instead of picking a food, Maxwell ran off, following the sounds of a live band. He wanted everyone to dance. Emma longed to dance with Drake, but with too many prying eyes she danced with Liam and watched as Kiara approached Drake and asked him to dance. Emma tensed up and watched as she wrapped her arms around his neck and swayed in time to the music, slowly getting closer to him. When the music stopped, Drake unhooked Kiara from him and walked over to his friends. Emma could feel her blood boiling, but she forced herself to smile and walk over to Olivia and Penelope on the edge of the crowd, Kiara rejoining them. They left to go get some cotton candy and the rest of the group began to leave until Drake pulled Emma back.
“I'm sorry.” He whispered. Emma nodded, she knew he couldn't have turned Kiara down without looking incredibly rude.
“Come here, there's one more thing I want to show you.” He led Emma to a freezer stand with an Italian flag. Gelato, it was Emma's favorite dessert, she had studied abroad in Florence for a semester in college and she became very familiar with the ice cream like treat. Drake ordered a chocolate gelato while Emma settled for a fruity raspberry. It was the perfect mixture of creamy and sweet, melting on their tongues.
“How is it?” Emma giggled as she got a brain freeze.
“The only thing that would make this better would be if I could kiss you right now.” Drake grinned mischievously and looked at Emma.
“I wish we weren't in public right now, the things I want to do to you.” He leaned in to whisper. Emma felt herself blushing as he stepped back. She seductively took a bite of ice cream, exaggerating how good it tasted, moaning.
“Keep it going until tonight Mr. Walker.” She winked just before they left the festival to catch up with their friends. On their way out, they ran into Hakim and Joelle. They were so impressed by Emma's willingness to step up that in return they agreed to attend her wedding. As they return to the estate, she couldn't stop thinking about how in love Hakim and Joelle still were after so many years together.
“What are you thinking about?” Emma looked at Drake unsure of how long he had been staring at her.
“Nothing.”
“Barnes I've been trying to get your attention for the last five minutes, you've got that look on your face, the one you get when you're lost in your own head.”
“I was thinking about Hakim and Joelle. Look how in love they still are with each other. Do you think you'll still love me that much, years from now?” Drake chuckled and carefully checked their surroundings before pulling Emma close to him.
“Barnes, I love you more and more every day. I think we're going to love each other even more than they do when we're their age.” Emma pulled Drake in for a tender kiss as he pulled her body flush against his dipping her down. When they stood up and he released her, she was light headed, her heart swelled.
“The real question is will you still love me that much.” She cupped his cheek and smiled.
“You're the only one for me Drake Walker.” Once back at the estate, Emma left to go find Liam to discuss what food from the festival they would serve at the wedding and Drake mentioned something about looking up movie times. She found Drake in the sitting room, lounging on a couch, he looked exhausted.
“Drake?” He didn't seem to hear her.
“Knock knock, anyone home?” She waved her hand in front of Drake's face and he blinked his eyes back into focus.
“Oh, hey Barnes. Sorry.”
“Everything okay?” he sighed.
“All this courtly stuff is suffocating. I thought it would be nice to get out, see a movie tonight, like normal people. Try to stay sane.”
“I feel like there's a ‘but’ coming.” Drake dragged his hand over his face and Emma knew it wasn't good.
“But Kiara cornered me, again.” Emma rolled her eyes, she was ready to kick Kiara out of court, tell her to stay home.
“What happened Drake?” Emma's tone was flat, and Drake flinched at the thought of having to tell her.
“I mentioned I was going to the movies and she invited herself.” Emma groaned before suddenly jumping off the couch.
“You did WHAT?!” Emma was furious, she wanted some alone time with Drake and Kiara kept getting in the way.
“She invited herself Barnes. It's not like I could say, actually I'm taking my best friend's fiancé out on a date.”
“Call a cab, I'll meet you outside in five minutes. We're leaving right now before she can crash.” Emma didn't give him a chance to answer, she dashed off to her room to change into a little black dress, casual enough for the movies.Even if he did have time to answer, he wasn’t going to protest, he thought Emma might kill him. Once they arrived, they settled on a spy thriller full of romance, it was that or a horror movie which wasn't exactly romantic when you couldn't cuddle in public. Drake bought the tickets and a large bucket of buttery popcorn.
“This is nice Barnes.” He scooped up some popcorn, ready to eat it but Emma snatched it out if his hands with her mouth playfully. Drake pretended to pout as he watched her eat his popcorn, but the corner of his lips twitched up into a grin.
“That's how you want to play it Barnes?” She giggled and scooped up some popcorn of her own, throwing it at Drake who tried to catch it, before she finished it. They laughed walking into the theatre together, unaware they had been spotted. Emma dragged him to the very back corner of the theatre and Drake frowned.
“What are we doing back here Barnes?”
“Getting the full movie experience. You'll see.” More people shuffled into the theatre, spread out across the seats. Finally, the lights dimmed, and the movie began playing. Drake was into the movie, but Emma had other things in mind. She hadn't been able to stop thinking about Drake kissing her on the way back from the festival, her imagination running wild. She placed her hand on Drake's thigh and slowly moved her hand up until she reached Drake's crotch. He gasped as she grabbed him, looking over at her surprised, she met him with a heated kiss. Drake fell into it and tangled his hands in her hair as Emma continued to rub over his jeans, feeling him grow hard. He moaned against her lips as she quietly undid his jeans and freed his hard length.
“Barnes what are you doing?” He hissed as her lips surrounded him. She began sucking, running her tongue up and down his shaft, teasing the tip with her tongue. Drake moaned a little too loudly and someone glanced back, Drake pretended to be watching the movie while Emma remained hidden behind the seats in front of her.
“You have to be quiet Drake.” She whispered before going back down on him, bobbing her head until he came, gripping the arm rests as he tried to stay quiet. Emma smiled, licking her lips as Drake tried to compose himself, tucking his dick back into his pants.
“What was that for?” Emma smiled mischievously and leaned in to whisper in his ear again.
“The full movie experience. What do you think the back row is for?” Drake shook his head grinning.
“We're not done Drake.” He turned to look at her surprised.
“What do you mean?”
“I want to feel your fingers inside of me Drake.”
“Barnes.” Drake wanted nothing more than to please Emma but he had never done something like that in a room full of people before.
“Drake, if you want to sneak into my room tonight and make it out of this duchy alive, you'll do as I ask.” Her tone was threatening and his stare even.
"I took you on a real date, we almost got caught a couple seconds ago. Do we really need to do this Barnes?" He didn't need lots of light to see the look on her face. He wasn't going to make it out of the theatre alive if he protested, besides everyday he looked forward to sneaking into her room. He wasn't ready to give that up, and he had to admit that almost getting caught was kind of hot, the thrill of it. Emma surprised him again when she leaned back against the wall and put her legs up, grabbing Drake's hand and rubbing it between her legs. He stifled a gasp when he realized she wasn't wearing any underwear. Drake started slow, rubbing circles on her clit and then dragging his fingers between her lips to see if she was wet. Drake teased her entrance as she pushed her hips towards him, but he pulled away and began rubbing her clit again. He was going to have some fun with it, payback for almost getting them busted. Again, he teased her entrance which was dripping wet at this point.
“Drake.” She begged. He loved hearing her say his name. Finally, he slipped one finger inside her, she whispered, it wasn't enough, so he slipped another and began pumping, hitting her g-spot perfectly. He felt her hips buck forward and he knew she was close, so he pulled out and waited for a few seconds before teasing her clit, bringing her right to the edge again. She was breathing hard, trying not to be heard by anyone else. She met Drake's eyes with a pleading gaze. He slipped his fingers inside her and pumped until he felt her cum on him, her muscles spasming around his fingers. She watched, satisfied and worn out as he grabbed some popcorn and ate it before sucking her cum off his fingers. Emma pulled her skirt down and was scooting over to kiss Drake when the lights came on. She jumped back and looked around as everyone began leaving. The people in front of them, turned around to see who had been sitting behind them, to see if they could figure out why it sounded like Drake was moaning but they didn't look disheveled, so the people left.
“So how was your real movie experience?” Emma asked as they walked out, dumping the popcorn bucket on the way.
“I'd definitely do that again. What got into you though?”
“Kiara’s been all over you since we got here. I needed to know that you were still mine and I was still yours.” Drake felt a pang of guilt, he wanted nothing more than to push Kiara away, and kiss Emma in front of everyone like no one was watching, but he knew that could never happen. Dark thoughts about how this was going to work long term began to slip into his mind, of course he wanted it to work, he loved Emma, he would never love anyone again that much, but there would always be another Kiara.
“I told you earlier Em, you've got nothing to worry about.” They held hands in the taxi back to the estate, running into Liam on their way to her room. He didn't look pleased.

South wind (Riley x Drake)
Hi guys! Just in case you didn’t know, this is part of a nameless Riley x Drake series. You can read the previous parts HERE.

Summary:  Riley wakes up the morning of the Homecoming Ball with a bad feeling.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A bad dream - Keane
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Riley woke up tangled in her sheets, covered in cold sweat, feverish. She sat up trying to remeber the dream... the nightmare. She squeezed her brain as hard as she could until her head started aching.
All she could remember was darkness and people shouting. She shut her eyes closed, making a last effort. A loud BANG, a shooting maybe? She had to stop watching those action films before going to bed.
Riley tried to shake that dreadful feeling out of her system, but it wouldn’t go away.
When Maxwell and Bertrand knocked on her door she seriously thought about not opening it, but she knew they wouldn’t leave, so she dragged her feet and unwilingly answer with a fake smile.
After discussing the upcoming night, she left towards the boutique. They’d specifically requested her to wear a new ball gown, something that’d blown the court’s mind. But there was someone else’s mind she was planning on blowing that night.
When she arrived, Hana and Olivia were already there, discussing their dresses. Riley thumbed through the racks, but all the simple dresses were gone, leaving her with only meringue-looking ones.
Olivia and Hana told her they’d picked some gowns for Riley, and even though they weren’t exactly something she would have picked, she felt thankful for her friend’s gesture.
Riley tried both dresses and decided Olivia’s choice, a golden sparkly puffy dress with floral details on the top and a pronounced cleavage that made both her tan and breasts stand out was the best option.
After picking some matching jewelry and thanking Olivia, she and Hana left for a short walk towards a nearby lake Hana wanted to show Riley, where they shared some wine and delicious food, but the feeling she had that moring hadn’t disappeared, clouding her mood.
-Are you excited about tonight? -Hana chirped, clearly tipsy.
-Yes, actually I am, though...-should I say it outloud, or will it make me look as a fool? - I...
-You know you can tell me anything right? I’ll tell you what, if you tell me, I’ll tell you a sectret of mine!
-Well... it’s really dumb actually, it’s that I... I have a bad feeling about tonight.
-A bad feeling? Like what?
-I don’t know... like something bad it’s going to happen, someone’s getting hurt... I don’t know, it sound crazy when I say it outloud.
- Well, most of the time I get bad feelings it’s just because I’m nervous about something else...
-Yeah, it’s probably that- Riley smiled thinking about Drake, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes - Anyways, tell me about your secret!
Hana suddenly blushed violently as she suddenly seemed extremely interested on his fingernails.
-Well, there’s someone I’ve been wanting to talk to tonight. It’s... it’s someone most people don’t like, because of their personality and the things they’ve said... but we’ve spent quite a long time toghether and I’m starting to like it...
-You don’t have to tell me who it is if you don’t want to - Riley smiled squeezing Hana’s hand. She knew exactly what it felt to fall for someone you’re not supposed to.
-Thanks Riley, you are a true friend to me.
They hugged for a while before heading back to the palace to get ready for the Homecoming Ball.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Coldplay - Hymn For The Weekend
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Homecoming Ball was everything she was expecting and more.
Bertrand had asked her to check in with some acquaintances like Francesco and Adelaide. Mingling with people wasn’t her favourite thing in the world, especially when that people involved Madeleine, but when they’d all left, Liam quickly took their place.
Eventhough Riley had rejected his proposal, she still cared for him deeply, and chatting with him, knowing that everything was fine between them, made her feel less nervous about the whole thing.
All of the sudden, Liam placed his hand on her waist, whispering an invitation, and she could feel a stare burning her skin. Her gaze flickered for just a moment to one side and, through the crowds, Riley was surprised to find Drake sitting at the bar, staring over at them, his jaw set tightly.
So there he was, she smiled, and Drake’s jaw tightened even more.
When Liam left her with a gentle kiss on her knuckles after she had politely said she should stay at the ball a while longer, Drake slid right behind her.
-Care for a drink Hopkins? - He whispered on her ear, making her tremble as she felt his warm sweet breath. He extended one arm brushing her side over her waist, offering a mojito.
She smiled accepting it as she turned around, and after questioning him about why would he chose such a drink for her, he offered her the chance to sneak out, and she took it without any hesitation.

James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sneaking out from the party with her was definitely the best part of his night.
As soon as they were on the clear, he turned her to him, grabbing her ass and pulling her closer, and without needing any more coaxing, she bussed him, biting his lip, caressing his tongue with hers, parting as quickly as they’d embraced. They couldn’t walk more than two or three steps without melting again in eachother’s arms.
They were snogging right outside his door, and he could feel the anxiety building up on him. That night was definitely the night.
He could barely wait to make her his, but as her hand grabbed the door handle, he remembered his room was a hot mess.
-Wait here - he whispered, he wanted to make things right, this night had to be special, nothing could ruin this for them.
He closed shut the door behind himself, a nervous wreck. He felt butterflies in his stomach, as if it was his very first time.
It is our first time he thought smiling, brushing his lips with his fingertips.
He quickly tidied up the scattered clothes in his floor, messily hiding it on the wardrobe, changed his bedsheets and stood still studying the scene. Something was missing, but what?
He rambled through his stuff, if only I’d bought roses or some shit like that... something that make this look nicer, a place worthy of her... Wait! I have some candles from my last camping trip, and some scented ones Maxwell gave me for my birthday, who gives scented candles as a birthday present? Well, I’ll have to thank him for them afterwards.
He scanned the room, feeling confident about the result; he just hoped she liked it as well. He shook his arms to get rid off the anxiety and inhaling deeply he opened the door, and kissed Riley tenderly before inviting her in.

NEXT TIME ON THE NAMELESS RILEY X DRAKE SERIES:
(...)
Before he could say anything to ruin the moment, she closed the space between them and erased all those unsaid doubts with a kiss. It wasn’t a soft tender kiss as the ones they’d just shared in the hallway. It was hot, desperate, slopy… Their tongues caressing as if their lives depended on it
(Yeah guys, it’s finally happening!!!)
