@dragonaday-fr Day 23: A Dragon You Wish You Could Scatter

Well, I knew who this had to be immediately. It's a very simple picture this time because. I'm so tired for one, but second, I am more interested in talking about this one.

Meet Choco. He was one of my very first g1 purchases, and an exalt rescue as well. He was up for fodder price alongside some of his own children. I grabbed him but they were gone. I very quickly grew attached.

At the time I liked bright dragons, but his Soil and Brown were just so... natural. He felt very real and endearing to me, and so I kept him.

This was roughly 8 years ago, so there were no genes I liked on him. I kept him completely basic for years, and he took up the lore job as clan therapist. He became very beloved to me.

Finally, piebald and paint rolled in! I was overjoyed! It was soft and lovely and kept him looking natural. And so he remained for years. Even now.

No tertiary gene.

And here is why:

GODDAMN ROYAL

Nothing looks natural in royal, there is no additional colour you can draw out to make it blend better, and I am not a fan of putting belly on a tundra and then covering it with a shirt. He barely wears apparel either. Not his thing.

Sometimes I SO BADLY want to scatter him. Just over and over until I get all natural tones.

But he has so much art I want him to still match, and that aside, there are SO MANY colours now. Imagine what could happen! He could theoretically be scattered hundreds of times without going all natural tones! He could turn into a goddamn triple magenta!

ANYTHING, before going how I want.

And so, for 8 years, I have wanted to scatter this tundra. And I have not.

i really do think there’s a huge disconnect on here w/ people who have never used tiktok as to what it actually is and who actually uses it. the number of people i’ve seen call it a “teen dancing app” is actually insane. it has not been a teen dancing app since i was in high school, around 2016 - 2020. the main communities i saw on a daily basis were 1) black history/anti-racism educators, 2) high school & college teachers sharing in-classroom strategies and frustrations with the education system, 3) local/state political leaders giving real-time updates on behind-the-scenes government decisions, & 4) community activism & leadership. like tiktok is an adult platform. almost every person i interacted with was my age or older. and yes it completely depends on your fyp and how you interact with the app, yes there’s still teenagers and dance videos and literally anything else you can think of. but these communities of adults aren’t insubstantial at all, they have literally millions of interactions on a daily basis. there’s about a million other types of communities that i could name just off the top of my head, because the range of users was SO diverse and thriving. it’s a long-distance community tool, just like any other social media—and honestly much better than any other social media, because it relies primarily on the kindness of strangers. i saw at least 5-10 videos today of queer people in rural areas panicking because they don’t have any access to queer community on any other platform or in real life. and before i end this i do want to say i think tiktok is coming back, i think this is a highly orchestrated political move, etc., but i do know it won’t ever be exactly the same. people are panicking about free speech violations because tiktok was a place where people fucking SPEAK. i have never seen mass mobilization and communication in this same way for as long as i’ve been alive. it is the people’s app, not just a silly teenage thing. if you’re not on tiktok and never have been, please stop talking about it like you know anything at all😭

i am sick and tired of seeing the rare time that bertholdt is mention on tiktok being just “oh ahahahaha annie didn’t like him and armin stole his girl omg so sad :( he must be heartbroken” there is more to his character than being obsessed with annie (which he wasn’t…he just cared about her. he got angry when the scouts said they were torturing her bc…he cares. and yeah he technically does have a crush but yk), in fact that’s such a small part of his character it’s ridiculous how that’s the only thing people care about.

The bit where everyone takes Quinni to the zoo is so well done. Right from the start of that but we see how uncomfortable Quinni is, and see why she’s hurting before she says anything. Ca$h notices when her best friend doesn’t seem to.

But yeah, when they invite her to the zoo, she doesn’t seem to want to be there, at no point do they ask what she wants, they just assume she’ll appreciate it even though we know she hates plan changes. As an autistic person, I imagine she’s similar to me with things being sprung on her, so it would make sense that she’s already stressed out. Having someone else make plans for me and then do a surprise thing for my birthday would honestly freak me out no matter how well intentioned.

The whole way around it becomes obvious that they’re doing this to try and make themselves feel better, not Quinni. They say they’re going for her, but they immediately leave her behind at the entrance, running off and chatting. With every exhibit they visit, she’s always the last one to leave which represents very concisely her fear of being left behind.

She even asks at one point what she’s missed and she’s brushed off by Darren, the one person who has always been understanding. It’s not done maliciously but it’s dismissive at best.

She then later expresses her fear of being left, explaining that she hates change and feels that no one is giving her a chance to keep up, and the whole zoo trip represents that so well. It makes sense that no one sees how stressed she is because they’re all so excited about the next thing they just don’t see her.

I feel like... there's smth about it. it's not all that good, bc the pose is a bit awkward, perspective is a nice attempt but a little off and I drew quickly without thinking, later couldn't fix it/was too lazy/had no time, but the colors, the shading... idk, I'm oddly a fan of it so I'm throwing it here.

see it as practice/warmup. I'll never get to smth better if I don't let myself fail a bunch of times first. don't be afraid of failing.

I'm chill with billford, it's a good ship. But I'm still a billdip shipper in my heart and soul and seeing people say "why did people ever ship billdip when billford is right there" pisses me off. You weren't there, ford didn't fucking EXIST for most of the show.

AND ALSO it's all well and good now we're all old, but back when I was 11 and had a religious obsession with bill cipher it was much easier to project myself onto dipper than ford. And as time goes on you get attached to ships, they feel like old friends you share treasured memories with.

I just hope there isn't any more stupid death threats over shipping, please this isn't 2015
