Cass's S3 arc was wasted potential, how about we fix that

This is gonna be a long one so buckle up.

yes yes we all know how much her villain and redemption arc was very iffy and can be fixed in so many ways. For example the ones I've seen:

Remove Gothel and focus on different motivations, you could have her doing it to protect Rapunzel rather than simply turning against her out of jealousy.

Have Zhan Tiri literally posses her through her ill feelings and control her like a puppet both physically and mentally.

Have the mirror demon Cass take the moonstone as a double plot twist, leaving Cass stuck in the house of yesterdays tomorrows, and nobody even knows.

All of these are fantastic ideas to rewrite her arc but one I've seen less explored in detail is the insanity route.

Insanity and delusion arcs, if done well, can make for some very compelling characters, whose motivations and actions can be unpredictable, but also understandable.

What if the moonstone slowly ate away at Cass's sanity, ON TOP OF what's she's already going through with her feelings of uselessness and abandonment, and with Zhan Tiri constantly talking in her ear and feeding her lies used to justify those feelings. Just take what we already have in canon, and spice it up a bit to make it more believable.

What if the moonstone also projected voices? Lost souls who have succumbed to the effects of possessing the stone, some nagging and screeching at Cass, telling her not to make the same mistake as they did, and some encouraging and praising her to follow Zhan Tiri and do these awful things.

The thing is, despite hearing voices, Cass refuses to remove the stone, because she's never felt so alive, so powerful, and she slowly gaslights herself into believing that the stone is, in fact, keeping her alive, because without this power she may as well be dead, with her injury essentially ruining her future, and that's her justification in Crossing the Line.

Think of the Ice King from Adventure Time. His crown gives him incredible ice powers and keeps him alive, but it takes his sanity from him, creating an impossible labyrinth in his mind that he becomes trapped in, leaving him a shell of his former self.

So Cass spends 6 months without other human contact, with only the comfort of the little ghost girl and the voices. She's angry, she's scared, so the red rocks still appear. She doesn't know what's happening anymore, why she feels so proud and yet so so guilty all the same. She's confused, she can't sleep, she can't think straight, the voices are pulling at her psyche, tearing her mind in two, one that is still loyal to Raps and is sorry betraying her, only wanting to be noticed for once, hoping they can fix their friendship, and one with a darker train of thought that is angry, in pain, and thinks that this is the only way, that Rapunzel needs to know how it feels to be seen as nothing but a shadow, an afterthought, a mistake, like she has been seen as for so many years.

They conflict, each thought slowly becoming more and more incoherent as it all blends into a cacophony of static noise, a whirlwind of emotion that she doesn't know how to process, and so she does what she's always done when he feels lost.

She fights.

Rapunzel sees her after 6 months and notices something off. Cass's confidence and pride all those months ago seem to be gone, she sees a caged animal, growling and clawing at scraps of salvation. She's talking to herself.

Varian is kidnapped, with the intention of obtaining more power, because without this incantation, she's nothing but a nuisance to her former friends unless she proves that she's powerful enough to pose a threat, so she can finally be taken seriously.

Nothing Left to Lose is relatively the same, but Cass appears more unhinged in her movements, nearly impaling Varian and even herself as the song continues. She cant lose, not when she's lost her parents, capability, future, friends, home, and without knowing just yet, sanity.

Bring back the deleted storyboards of her panting and lashing out as she destroys the painting of Raps, and you can see the slight remorse in her eyes before a faint whisper ushers her away from the wreckage, telling her to claim their her rightful throne.

When the gang tries to enter, she revels in their struggle, they finally have an inkling of what it's like to be so determined to reach a goal, only to be shut down at each corner. She laughs, but it doesn't sound like her. She eventually lets them up on her own, they need to see just how powerful she's become.

"I'm glad you could make it Raps, I've been waiting for you."

Attack. Attack. This is your chance, coward.

"Shut up..."

"...I didn't say anything Cass..."

Cass pauses, none of the voices ever responded to her pleas before. She looks at Rapunzel with an unreadable expression.

"I said SHUT UP!"

She lashes out. She fights. She's quick, strong, but also sloppy, and that's what makes her fall to Rapunzel's power.

The moonstone is chipped like her psyche. What now whatnow whatnowwhatnow?

More power they whisper, as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.

But it's not enough, it's never enough, she's never been enough. She's stuck, she's always been stuck. An endless cycle of a dream, a goal, a passion, followed by an obstacle, an intrusion, a blonde princess. She needs to break this cycle before it breaks her further.

So she lets the ghost girl guide her, too tired and too sick to navigate her ocean of emotions anymore. Letting wave after wave pass over her until she drowns, and suddenly she's in a cave, clutching a broken box, pieces scattered about like her heart.

She doesn't know what she's saying anymore, what's an intruding voice and what's her own thoughts. She keeps flashing back, stuck in a house, stuck in a castle, stuck in a tree, stuck in a mirror, stuck in a tower, stuck in a cave, stuck, stuck, stuck.

She and Rapunzel break out, with a broken mirror, and a broken spirit.

The voices are screaming, ringing, screeching, she can't form a single coherent thought. She's stuck between ideas.

Forgive her, love her, fix this, fix yourself.

Kill her, hurt her, show her exactly how much she's hurt you. Kill.

Fix. Kill. Fix. Kill. Fix. Kill. FIX. KILL. F I X. K I L L.

Compromise. She's never considered a compromise, never had the peace of mind to. Kill or be killed, was all it ever was for her.

Now it's Rapunzel who is stuck, trapped in a cave by a woman trapped in her mind.

Eventually she finds the missing shard, but her minds only fractures further. She sees visions when she touches those small shoulders, a demon conqueror, a blue haired puppet, an eclipse.

Everything shatters.

She's sick. She's ill. She doesn't know who she is or what she's meant to do.

For once, the good voices ring louder.

Find her. Talk to her. Tell her what's wrong. Maybe she'll listen.

For once.

For once, she lets the good voice be her guide.

But of course they wouldn't want her. She's crazy. She's ill. She's insane as Eugene has put it.

"Cass, please, you don't have to be the bad guy."

So that's all she was.

"I don't want to be the bad guy. I'm sick...I can't think straight. I don't want to fight anymore ok? I just...I can't-"

She's cut off by a shot of amber, and everything is a blur.

Anger, pain, sadness, guilt, betrayal, whispers, screaming, crying, she's screaming, she's crying, she's insane. She's stuck.

She's in a throne room, your making a mistake rightful place, they say. She doesn't want this, she wants...she doesn't know what she wants. She can't feel, she can't think, and suddenly, she doesn't care.

She doesn't care when the eclipse comes. She doesn't care when Rapunzel arrives to take back her kingdom. She doesn't care when the puppet strings are pulled and she's suddenly fighting again. It's automatic. It's feels right. It feels wrong.

Rapunzel is trapped, encased by her (how did that happen?) She can only make out one word in the train wreck that is her mental state.

"Why?"

Why? Why had she done this? Was it even her anymore? Was it Cassandra? Who even is Cassandra? What does she want? What is she doing? She doesn't know the answer to any of these.

Voices and thoughts overlapping, creating a buzzing sensation, she answers as honestly as she knows how to.

"I wish I knew..."

Zhan Tiri take the moonstone, and she just lays there, thinking she's about to die, after all, the stone kept her alive, right? She's never felt so alive and so dead.

She hears Rapunzel's voice, she must have died too. Or maybe it's another one of the good voices giving a final goodbye. She looks around, Hell isn't yellow and rocky...Hell doesn't have a brunette princess...

They're stuck.

"Snap out of it Cass-"

You're crazy.

"I should be dead..."

"...what...?"

Useless. Unwanted. Mistake.

"That stone kept me alive... I might as well be dead... after all, I was as good as dead to you wasn't I?"

"Cass..."

Pitiful. Weak.

"Shut up...i can't think...i don't know who I am anymore...the voices...the voices won't stop...what am I supposed to do...what am I meant to do...who am I...?"

"Oh Cass..."

She tries to listen to Raps's speech, how she was sorry for ignoring her and her feelings, sorry with what was happening to her, how she was her best friend, how they can both work to fix their friendship, to fix her.

For once, Cass allowed herself to relax, as Raps pulled her into her arms.

She dies, for real this time. She can feel the floatiness, the numbness, the void that she could only feel in her mind had finally spread to the rest of her body.

Dead weight.

She's awake, and it's as if nothing has changed. She's surrounded, Raps and Eugene are there welcoming her in their embrace, and she almost feels whole again.

She cries, and cries, and cries and screams and cries and cries and cries.

She doesn't know who she's meant to be, she doesn't know anything anymore. Drunk and ill with power for so long, she's lost everything, her purpose, her future, herself.

She's stuck.

She's given a trial, found guilty of treason, but sentenced to exile as a way to better herself and her mind. Prison would only kill her further.

She's on the road, nothing but herself, Fidella, and the voices, searching for a destiny long lost to a cycle of misery of pain, finally moving, no longer stuck.

Sorry if this seems repetitive but I haven't been active on social media in yearsss

Is it true that there's a lot of lawlu hate on tiktok and Twitter? I'm so confused because there used to be so much love for the ship back in 2017/2018 from my perspective (Amino era).

The short answer: yes and no. Let me start by saying I'm not the best person to answer this since I purely consume on twitter. I made my personal twitter in 2007 like it's everyone I've ever known irl and has nothing to do with shipping or hobbies and I follow approx 0 accounts related to anime, manga, or lawlu. I just looked up lawlu a few times and browsed and suddenly it's my whole fucking timeline and there’s no going back and now I have a lawlu twitter (This makes me very happy).

So if anyone else has an opinion on this that is more in the community, please feel free to comment away. Otherwise, below are my observations.

First off, there IS a ton of love for the ship. Most of what I see is beautiful art (they got the nsfw ayo), memes, fanfics, and headcanons just like tumblr. There are tons of comments of people swooning over these posts, Lawlu IS one of the most popular OP ships after all.

There's just a vocal minority that are very against the concept of shipping and in that subset there are those who are very against Lawlu. There people out there that will literally list accounts to block that ship lawlu or write lawlu DNI in their bios. The same can be said for other ships, it's not just this one it’s any they deem a ‘pro ship’ (problematic ship) and Lawlu is generally considered one of these. Below as is an example:

The biggest issues I’ve seen with Lawlu are the following 1. luffy is aroace and cant be shipped period 2. law groomed luffy and the age gap is gross. IMO I think most of these people are just infantilizing Luffy as some goofy autistic kid that doesn't know what love and sex are when in reality he's very self-aware and happy does not equal stupid. Also he's 19 he’s not underage. He met Law twice when he was 17, one of which was saving his life as a doctor and Luffy was unconscious most of this time. Let's not forget Luffy's a war criminal kicking the asses of people 4x his age in a pirate world, age doesn't really work the same as irl.

BUTTT Not that any of this matters because you can ship whoever the fuck you what because guess what? It's ~fiction~. I could rant about how people can ship whatever the hell they want all day but I'll save my breath for now. (my opinion of course)

Also there are just mentally ill people who enjoy telling others to kys if you like something they like do. Lawlu shippers are just their chosen target demographic. Creators get foul messages in their inboxes, rude comments, just general hater behavior. Twitter is just a firey cesspool and all fandoms have 'fans' who do nothing but hate. We live in an age of negativity where being a hater is the cool thing to do.

HOWEVER, I see more people posting about why those people are wrong and stupid than the actual negative tweets but maybe that's because I actually support the ship and the algorithm sees that. Not sure how twitter works, nor do I want to know about that dumpster fire there's a reason I came over to tumblr.

As for tiktok, I don't really consume a lot of tiktok so I can't speak on it besides seeing cosplayers and cute animations/art. I'll leave that to the tiktok people to look into.

A very hot take about Express

I'm probably gonna get a lot of flak for this, and that's why I'm not putting any tags here (along with not wanting what's basically a rant to get into the Express tag). Please keep in mind that this is my own personal opinion, this is not a personal attack, and I want to keep discussions about this civil. Be mature about this. I don't want any of y'all throwing hissy fits because one rando said something bad about a mod you like. I still like Express; this is just a criticism. Anyways, here goes.

Express' "horror" is just as bad as Orin Ayo's. There, I said it.

Think about it: both involve cults as a plot point (or that's what I can only assume for Express; it's even worse if it ends up having little to no plot relevance), both involve extreme gore and body horror, and what makes it all so bad is that both mods' "horror" aspects just seem to rely on edge for the sake of edge.

The biggest offender here is Locke. He's a batshit insane serial killer who escaped from a mental asylum, is affiliated with a cult, bites people to attack them when restrained, and will maul the first person he sees if he's unrestrained. That's edgy enough, but it's at least somewhat interesting. The real edge, however, comes in the fact that he canonically carved out his own eyes and eyelids even before he was affiliated with the cult, just because he's insane. That's it. This is literally Jeff the Killer/other 2010s creepypasta levels of edge. There's no real reason behind Locke mutilating himself, he just does it because "ooohhhh he's crazy!!!1!!"

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind being edgy for the sake of being edgy, as long as it's not outright offensive. However, the problem is that Express is trying to be better than Orin Ayo, at least from what I gather. While you can take concepts from a horror mod you deem to be bad and try to make them work (and I'm not saying that's what Express was trying to do), it just doesn't work in this case. If anything, it falls right back into the same problems.

If you're going to be elitist about your mod and say it's better than Orin Ayo, have the mod actually be better to back it up.

The mod is still miles better in other aspects such as music and character design, but other than that, I can see why people refer to it as "Orin Ayo with trains"; it almost reaches the same level of edge and uses the same plot points, only having a story that's less convoluted. Even then though, there are still some questionable inconsistencies like Crash being unable to see due to being born without eyes, but Locke still being able to see despite him taking his own eyes out. You can say "but spirit realm logic!" all you want, but using in-world logic to excuse inconsistency and plot holes is lazy and a cop-out.

Snowy Night: Timeless Love Ep 1-2 First Impression

(Contains spoilers, obviously. And I might rant, consider yourself warned)

Ep 1

I like the opening theme instrumental, very soft and soothing

Miss Li Qin you really like that shoulder hunch thing don't you? It gives you 👻 vibes, it doesn't help you are actually literally dressed like a ghost

Even though I was having a complaint right away the following aesthetics are nice.

Oh wow a (literally) fridged character! Cdramaland this year really loves their fridging!

I'm afraid what's with the snow setup of this show and the complimentary heavy cloaks, Li Qin is gonna do a LOT of ghosting (literal)

Xiao Xi is here and once again serving my favorite "light has left his eyes" look as always! I hope he gets a lot of betrayal and mortal injury and torture and piggyback and pregnant scenes once again! 😌

Um I was looking forward to this show for a long time because it seemed like a huge portion of photography took place in complete snowland but looks like that exact thing turned out to be its weakness. The CGI is awkward. You can see exactly which scenes took place within a greenscreen set because the background blending is not done seamlessly enough. All the money has gone to keeping the cast and crew warm in the snow scenes from the looks of it 🥲

BUT it's not all unenjoyable! Look, the FL is having an all-girls harem! 😍

Damn girls. aren't you difficult to satisfy…. can't let her rest even one night? 🤭

I mean at this point it's not just an aesthetic need but a practical one too because this drama's second name is frostbite.

So he walks all over her property even after being warned to not to AND offer her unsolicited advice about being safe in the woods alone as a girl. Dude she's been LIVING here, WHILE keeping a bunch of other girls safe too. Know your limits.

Why are they getting thrown into unnecessary forced sugar moments, please work on establishing your characters first so the audience can care for them before trying to create chemistry out of nothing, show.

sorry but as a tag lurker I just wanna rant about the s*dcarmys I keep seeing in the richonne tag for a second because uhhhh it's weird and kinda racist (why is there a photoset of jeremy and ayo at the emmys tagged as a richonne you guys are so fucking weird).

anyways I saw a post talking about sydcarmy comparing it to richonne ([sarcasm] oh gee I wonder why) that was like, "sydcarmy proves that if twd aired today, ppl would insist rick and michonne were just platonic" and wow. what an absolutely wild revisionist take implying richonne was accepted like that lmao. like, as someone who was there back in 2014-16 watching in real time, I can tell you that people did very much deny richonne was going to happen DESPITE it being a canon romantic relationship in the source material the show was based on. and they DID claim this was because the show was "clearly platonic" and a million and one other things that was clearly just racism in disguise. myself and a lot of richonne shippers of colour especially were treated like fucking pariahs for years.

I absolutely think ships between white and Black people are written off in fandom at large due to anti-Blackness and misogynoir and all of them share that in common.....HOWEVER, I really don't think sydcarmy and richonne are comparable beyond this and any insisting they are feels kinda racist in that it's clear a lot of people just see a relationship between a white dude and Black woman and think they're the same. Because other than them being a ship that involves a white man and a Black woman, everything else is sooo different.

Like..... The biggest difference being "syd and carmy are platonic" is not just something racist ppl in fandom say (and I'm not discounting that), but it's also something the actors and creators of the Bear have repeatedly said. This was absolutely not the case with richonne lmao. If anything it was the opposite, the actors and writers loved teasing that richonne would happen and how much they wanted it to happen and even directly challenged fans who said otherwise. Like richonne was basically a sure thing because of the source material and people still denied it because of racism. I literally didn't think richonne would happen because I was afraid the racism in the fandom would impact the outcome of the show.

I honestly think it's so fucking weird to compare richonne to sydcarmy when there is a non-racist argument for sydcarmy being platonic that's supported by the people making the bear - which there literally wasn't for richonne. and I think ppl equivocating them are really weird.

Swimming Lessons

Part 1/3

A/N: Soo I did it thanks to @mal-urameshi for the idea.

Summary; Okoye puts Riri in swimming lessons. Okoye meets er daughter's swimming coach Attuma. Okoye isn't going to do anything except look at him that's all.

Okoye would say she is a pretty okay mom. The greatest but enough that her daughter wouldn't die by her negligence. And like any helicopter parent Okoye put her three-year-old in swimming lessons. As much as she loved her daughter, Riri was a menace in a loving way. Riri couldn't sit still when she gets her hair done or sitting her car seat. So what does any parent do when they have an active child putting in classes.

Okoye had her daughter in ballet, karate, and piano lessons. The young mother was doing everything to keep miss.busybody from being too busy in her room. Plus on some mommy blog it said it was important for Riri’s age group to socialize with their peers. And her daughter was a genius but she just read the room incorrectly sometimes.

“Oh Riri,” Aneka greeted as she wrapped her arms around the young girl. Aneka took her job as the fun auntie very seriously always trying out for her niece.

“It’s been ages since I’ve seen you,” Aneka commented as she glared at her sister,” It’s almost like someone is keeping you away from me.”

"She needs to run this energy," Okoye reasoned to Aneka as she rolled her eyes. Her sister squahed down to Riri's height as she gave her a piece of candy.

"Thank you, Auntie!" Riri shouted as she hug her aunt. Okoye rolled her eyes, "That's why she is in so many classes."

Aneka scoffed at the insult, "Hey she's needs some fun in her life. And it's not like you and Ayo are going to do it?"

"She's needs structure-“ Okoye started.

"in her life. This is the foundation she needs and going to rely on when she gets older, I know I know," Aneka finished her sister's statement.

"It's good to know you listen to me every once and while," Okoye responded. Aneka waved her hand not taking what her sister was saying to her seriously, "So what's the next class that my Riri have to go to now? How to detonate a bomb?"

Okoye rolled her eyes before she can tell her sister about her daughter's next class. Riri jumped up and down, "I'm going to learn how to swim!"

Aneka's lighten up around her niece, "Really? That sounds like fun."

Riri nodded, "Yeah and I'm learning how to swim like swordfish because they swim really fast."

"Really where did you learn about that?" Aneka asked Riri puffed her chest loving the special attention that her aunt was giving her, "Mama and me went to the library today."

"Can you show me the book you got from the library?" Aneka asked Okoye inwardly groaning knowing her sister was going to give her unneeded advice from the peanut gallery. Aneka stood back up to her normal height, "I'm just saying I find it funny how you're the only one entertaining and taking care of her while you know who isn’t doing his share of the work.”

Okoye could only pressed her lips together as she waited for her sister to finish with rant with her good for nothing ex-husband. From Okoye’s view they went into marriage too fast and were pressured by their parents and traditions that their relationship just frizzed out.

“I mean the only good thing that happened from that relationship was having Riri,” Aneka commented as she was finally getting to the end of her rant. Okoye just nodded along letting her sister finish her ranting about her ex-husband. Okoye's eyes followed her daughter's movements between her bouncing on her toes while reading.

"Thanks for your unneeded advice," Okoye said as she moved closer to take her daughter's hand quickly leaving her sister's apartment.

"Are you ready for your swimming lesson?" Okoye asked her pebble as she buckled her in. Riri nodded, "Yeah, I can't wait to tell VIv and Miles about it."

Okoye went to the driver's seat. She looked through the reflection mirror at Riri, "Let's go, swordfish."

todays hero costume rant is actually a positive one!! Its Tokoyami! A very underrated hero imo

For starters I wanna say: The all black of his hero costume is so nice :) Its so cohesive and just ijuakjlnlklkjmergkllk PLUS THE FACT THAT HE HAS A CLOAK??? THIS MAN THOUGH OF EVERYTHING

Its like the perfect hero costume. He has boots, its not a skin-tight body suit which makes it even better. Its been shown that he can use the cloak in combat. Plus he can hide stuff behind the cloak. NOT TO MENTION HOW COOL HIS QUIRK IS JSJKKNKJNGJKREGJIJKL;;;; AND HIS BELT?? ITS SO PERFECT. THE IDEAL HERO COSTUME. This one isn't much of an analysis and is more of a "Ghost freaks out about how cool Tokoyami is" but I hope you enjoyed it non the less :)
