It’s amazing how quickly plans change in #fostercare. A #fostermama has to be completely flexible to put the needs of a child first, but others in a case seem to only look at what’s convenient. Every placement change a child experiences causes anxiety when trauma has already caused instability. The removal itself is trauma. Currently looking for a home for this little guy! He’s a one year old pure bred Boston terrier. He’s been passed around a lot lately and I don’t really know his backstory or why he’s not with his original owner. But my friend couldn’t keep him and I volunteered to foster him until I can actually find him a home. He’s very energetic. Loves giving kisses. Likes playing fetch and tug of war. Loves walks and was actually super chill being introduced to my other 2 dogs (who are very territorial, mind you.) We’ve been trying to find a name he responds to but no luck as of yet. He’s had a few of them. Please reach out if you’re interested in the little guy! He hasn’t been fixed yet, but he’s up to date on all shots. Doesn’t bark. Samson was a very tiny kitten stuck in a storm drain with multiple pipes going in different directions. His cries were loud so people in the parking lot could hear his distress. We were called to help but the grate was too heavy and we couldn't reach him. The fire department came with the jaws of life and removed the grate. After a long time of coaxing and reassuring him, Samson allowed gentle hands to pet him and lift him out of the drain. Samson has a white heart shape on his chest! This is an amazing kitten who romps and plays with his foster sister Katy. They sleep together and are lap babies. We are offering an adoption special for them. If adopted together -it’s just one adoption fee. They can be adopted separately but they do great together. Katy is the gorgeous dark tortie in the picture. #Repost @massadopt @download.ins --- When the Thompson family began to explore #adoption, they were set on the “three little girls” their social worker introduced to them. Those three girls, Avianne, Makalyn, and Madisyn, are now a part of their #family. Dan and Beth Thompson cemented their decision to grow their family through adoption after attending a MARE meet & greet. Although they were initially considering adopting one child, they were moved to find a sibling group after learning about the difficulties they face in finding placements. Beth explains that the family's gut instinct led them to welcome Avianne, Makalyn, and Madisyn to their family. Although their time adjusting as a family wasn't entirely seamless, they wouldn’t change a thing. “A reward [of adoption] was the fact that we had a family to call our own and a home,” said Makalyn. “In the foster system, that was hard for us because we didn't really have a place to really just settle in. We were just there temporarily.” Beth says that the kids were very open to being a part of the family. Makalyn enjoyed how flexible her parents were when allowing them to slowly open up. “Let them come to you first and take baby steps and make sure that you're extremely patient, because if you're not patient, it's gonna be one heck of a ride,” said Makalyn, advising future adoptive #parents. The Thompson family is also part of MARE's Friend of the Family mentor program, where they guide newer adoptive parents throughout the process. “It just feels good to be able to see how far your family has come and also to be helpful to another family,” said Beth about being a mentor family. Madisyn also sees the value of creating bonds with people in similar circumstances. She explains that she and one of her friends who's in #fostercare have a special bond that's built on mutual understanding.
