We saw my son's foster brother a couple of weeks ago. He's been moved to a different placement, and I wasn't sure if we would be able to see him again. My son absolutely loves his foster siblings, so I am hugely relieved that we have managed to get in touch with this lovely lad's new carer and arrange to meet up. We had a fab morning catching up, and at the end, my son's foster brother gave him this toy car and told him he wants him to have it. He's played with it every day. A lot of people talk about sibling relationships and how important it is to stay in contact with blood siblings who are placed elsewhere. Don't forget foster siblings too. All the appointments needed for kids in #fostercare can run anyone ragged. Visits with family, caseworkers, agencies, CASA/GAL, ad litem, etc. Then the required doctor & dentist appointments. And many kids in care also need specialists and therapists. . . . These appointments are on #SeventeenDays of the month! That means there is some sort of appointment on more than half the days of the month!!! . . . This is exhausting! I remember that call — my phone rang at 11pm. As I groggily answered, a #caseworker told me that she had a sibling group of 3 that needed a place to stay IMMEDIATELY! _________________ Because of the shortage of #fosterhomes, these #fosterkids were coming from two counties over – nearly two hours away. The extensive travel for the twice weekly family visits was extremely difficult on the kids. ___________________ Although these siblings were able to be placed together (2 hours from their community), the sad reality is that many sibling sets, when first placed into #fostercare, are split not only from their parents, but also from siblings. ____________________ @adamscountyco (#denver) is changing that with a new short-term placement program for foster children in the area called #homesforhope. ____________________ @nightlightchristianadoptions is actively looking for #fosterparents willing to become part of this flagship program and live in the homes full-time. After seeing this photo of us, I knew she was wrong.
