Musical Touken Ranbu: Tsuwamonodomo ga Yume no Ato english sub
A passion project if there's ever been one, it's been a longstanding want of mine to finally do this! Needless to say, Tsuwamono and everything it meant is still my favourite plot from Toumyu! I love its character-driven and intricate writing, its heartrending acting choices, as well as the way it invites one to think about what characters think and why, and why they do or don't (dare to) do the things they do.
However, another important reason that I'm letting myself indulge in this, is that recent Toumyu has taken a turn away from this plot, changing the way how Mikazuki is framed, tying different characters to themes that were tied to Kogitsunemaru, and put those characters into roles that would originally have been most natural for Kogitsunemaru to follow.
In that light, then, I hope that these subtitles will allow you to see, even if it's just the smallest sliver, what I loved in Toumyu's take of Kogi and Mika up to and including Kotobuki. To see that it was beautiful. Because I think it was. 💙💛🌙🦊
Keep in mind that the files in the folder below are only the subtitle files, timed and tled to the blu-ray and DMM senshuuraku distribution. The folder also includes a pdf with translation notes, some background information where I felt it would add, and just a little bit of eager gushing about the references made.

#touken ranbu#tsuwamonodomo ga yume no ato#toumyu#Water's translations#tsuwamono#Kogitsunemaru#Mikazuki Munechika#we're joining with sute's timeline in which Kogi (may as well have) never existed hahahaha (pain)#but let's put that aside and enjoy Tsuwamono for the beauty it is#I love tsuwamono and translating it has only made me love it more#the references to Kokaji in the starting song were much more intricate than I expected#and I believe the way Basho's haikus are incorporated is smart!#the many things Tsuwamono slyly implies about its worldbuilding are so so so so nice#and also the question of what it means to exist and to be remembered!#that things are never black and white and that even the people you fear may be hurt or will not understand may be different from how you se#and that (I think this is very nice about tsuwa) people make mistakes and make *choices* and that that's what makes them human#I very gently gesture at Mikazuki#I love how he's characterised and how Kuroba conveys that characterisation#He envies shadows and betrays his own advice and cannot lay the finishing blow#he forces smiles. His kindness sways his heart again and again to stab himself with it. He fights a futile battle. He tries anyway.#He lies- He fears- He doesn't speak-- in understandable fear of the devastation he may cause if his words reached the ears of those he love#He would rather risk breaking.#Mikazuki is such a complex and deafeningly HUMAN character and I love that painfully kind and undeniably human portrayal of him so much#and though a certain contrast with Mikazuki is a vital part of the way Kogitsunemaru enters the paintwork here it is ultimately the fact#that he was never black and white- that he ever sees the bigger picture ironically just as Mika said- that allows him to understand#even if with his own personal feelings and his discipline he can't follow the same road#this in deep contrast to Hizamaru- who would not even have hesitated or felt reluctant or even had to battle his feelings had he found out#and I think the relief of having someone dear to confide in- that's emphasized twice with Iwa in the myu- in the form of Kogi#is something that (up to TKO) would and should have meant the world to Mikazuki#that his unwillingness to follow the same path could much too naturally still have meant he could have supported Mikazuki in other ways

If Ulysses has a million haters, then I'm one of them. If Ulysses has one hater, then I'm THAT ONE. If Ulysses has no haters, that means I'm dead. If the world is with Ulysses than I’m against the world.
#this is slightly joking but like also not but also like am mixed on Ulysses on many factors#infuriating because i sympathize with his pain but it’s like#he is a well written and fundamentally flawed character whose hypocrisy I found doubly in#black characters I can tell were designed by white people with a semblance of an understanding of activism and bipoc oppression#but not enough for the character to not feel like hand holding for the majority white audience#plus personal grips with the whole twisted hairs thing and reference to slave braiding patterns#Ulysses irks me as a black person on a weird personal level and I can go into debt on why him being black is a big detractor for him to me#like he continues this cycle of distancing himself from his roots before remembering over and over again through his actions#he leave so much in his wake that the courier ends up correcting or helping like in honest hearts and old world blues because he’s self#righteous in a subtle way even to himself that he believes he stand out of his one man rule when he does not play an active hand#saw a post talk about how you choose to continue moving through his story and can leave at any moment and this it is partially your fault#but what of the oath that is set before you and is forced to take that he set up#I do not have to walk it but when I do the steps are not my own but those taken for me#you have to go out of your way to change it which is not something he expects because he’s playing by a story he’s been perpetuating in his#head about you two and the effect one man has when he’s continually been that one man more so than you as many of his actions directly lead#to the one you go through also the irony in the flag he continues to bear being the real reason he has no home#like he reps it when the package is likely enclave and thus use the same symbol#also still can’t get over how anyone could have delivered the package and he tries so hard to act like it was the couriers destiny or fate#when this was the one case of chance and that once man was likely a enclave engineer and how it’s really is never one man#it the process and he’s so annoying about it like he’s a cool character but if you don’t believe in his philosophy or already went through#these ideas cause they are very common talking points in poc especially BIPOC spaces he’s just old hashings and stunted#fallout#fallout new vegas#Ulysses you upset me but I’m like I feel you could be better if you weren’t so incessant#I don’t think I ever want to make a serious post stating this about him just because I’d start yapping and it’d never get finished#ulysses fnv#fnv ulysses#lonesome road

One of the best Voyager scenes to indicate Tuvok & Neelix's dynamic and how I think Tuvok is just as if not more 'annoying'(positive) than Neelix is when Neelix pours Tuvok a fresh squeezed glass of a fruit juice blend and Tuvok's like (paraphrased) "I don't want to drink this." and Neelix is like "Can you please try it?" and Tuvok's like "I don't want to, you're really bad at this sort of thing. It's going to taste bad." and Neelix says that Ensign XYZ said she LOVED it, she even had a second glass! And Tuvok says Ensign XYZ could drink poison without a second thought and Neelix is like "Tuvok could you please just TRY it? Just try a little SIP of it PLEASE??" and Tuvok sighs and rolls his eyes and sniffs it before taking a sip and it turns out he loves it. Turns out it tasted good actually. And then after all that Neelix tries to talk to him over eggs (which he's again cooking fresh for him) and Tuvok tells him he doesn't wanna hear "the life history of his breakfast." Absolutely insufferable this man I would have burned his eggs on PURPOSE!!!!

#ocs#my ocs#thoight about the scene where my grumpy mentor figure lets himself starve to death in an endless desert#so that his mentee can have the last bits of food and water#and as his life is fading out and he can see his teenage charge falling apart in panic#bc ace is just a child. hes just a child he dossnt know what to do#he gives ace the artifact they were supposed to transport avross the dried up sea and tells him to finish it#finish what he started#and after ace buries him in the sand hes just walking gor days on end no food or water until hes forced#to crawling#dragging his body through the dust toward a city he finds empty#and its only as hes being rescued when its revealed#his mentor didnt give him the artifact. he gave ace a honing device#hed set it up to send out a distress signal and allowed himself to be buried with some terrible secret#lost to the desert#and now ace knows that even in death damien made sure ace lived#sam's thinkin again

I have a few les mis wips centering on disability/a character with a disability, and I though, wouldn't it be cool if I finished them for disability pride month? Wouldn't it be cool if I finished anything? They are not even long it should be very easy. So that is my goal for the month and I am posting this to tumblr to hold myself accountable. But also don't be shocked if I fail this goal because my brain refused to make words.

It isn’t potential, though. Vegeta is famously, canonically, interesting and complex and well written, despite the anime’s best efforts to stifle it. The nuggets you get from Toei are what survived them scraping off Toriyama’s (very good, highly skilled) storytelling and character writing to focus on making Goku as plastic and stiff as the action figures they use the series to market (which Toriyama actively, vocally, and repeatedly did not want or like).

#Vegeta has one of the most *famously* well-written developmental character arcs of all time fjdjd this post was Not About Him#Unless this is someone who has only ever seen DBS’ anime I do not understand this take Geets’ arc is 30 years old and largely unmatched#The anime scrapes off the nuance and love and force feeds you corporate protag worship so you’ll buy branded shit with protag’s face on it#I WISH I was exaggerating but I’m so bitter about Corporate Greed bleeding out good storytelling for the last decade lmao#I remember when I was blaming Toriyama for Toei’s writing. I’m so glad I know better now. Toriyama’s writing is so charming.#And honestly nothing summarizes my beef better than that One Panel of Vegeta and Trunks hanging out with Bulma and Dr B in the lab when Cel#Announced the Cell games.#The Anime 1) took bulma out of the lab 2) has geets start beef for no reason 3) has him leave without trunks and 4) just totally overrides#that despite all the grandstanding and attitude and mistakes leading up to that point Vegeta is there seated in the room with his family#Not pouting or grumpy or forced he’s just chillin in a chair in the lab while Bulma and DrB work on 16#And then when he leaves and Trunks follows and Bulma offers him a haircut Geets STOPS and WAITS for his son to be finished#like that scene is everyone grouped off with the people they’re closest to in the manga and Geets is with his family#That’s Toriyama’s Vegeta. Toei decided to make that moment about beefing with Yamcha and Bulma being out …? shopping…???#And Roshi explaining the Concept of a tournament to everyone before Cell explains what a tournament is to everyone. again.#Anyway old man yells at cloud hashtag ReadTheManga you get it#10 Days Til Daima!#Praying they don’t fuck up the final thing Toriyama ever trusted them with!!!!#But the woman writing it also wrote cells at work so at the VERY least we’re getting a cute funny DB show#Which tbh is all I want at this point

thinking about rassilon's (lack of) characterization in gallifrey time war
#* ◦ ❝ « 𝘰𝘰𝘤 . the poster's crusade .#rassilon is such a perfect villain for gallifrey and romana specifically#he is the embodiment of tradition of the old barbaric ways of gallifrey whereas romana is a reformist#a liberal (this is a character flaw) and more beholden to principle than actually getting anything done but still#an opposite for rassilon in every way but they never have a confrontation over their ideals#rassilon just sits in his room and decides its final sanction time between incarnations#i guess richard armitage must be expensive#it's not great folks#beyond is such a tease by having us peek into an alternative time war where romana is still lord president#and out of grief and revenge over leela's death she orders a whole inhabited solar system destroyed because dalek forces#amass within it#that's the shit i wanna hear not fucking 'i don't wanna be a time lord anymore' (pulls out chameleon arch but doesn't use it)#god when the chameleon arch was mentioned my eyes rolled back into my skull i have been poisoned by time lord ocs on here#thank god they decided to pull the 'braxiatel shows up to rescue the gang right before they die' lever for like the fifth time#i love romana's non reaction to him being devoured by the ravenous#i forgot how much they're genuinely terrible villains for a whole four boxsets but that's because the doom coalition was worse#and the eleven#anyway i've finished time war and it was very mediocre i feel like they've character assassinated romana and narvin#what happened to these two i know on narvin's end there's some character development#and it was funny seeing big finish finally give him backstory in boxset four of the eight series of gallifrey#but romana should be more insane she's too composed#all the talk of unit 117 and etra prime but she doesn't snap once#it's all so meaningless in the end#i'm not even sure i wanna start war room the theme song alone puts me off it's the worst they've had for this series#gallifrey's theme from series 4 to 6 was the best one they should've never changed it
